MmmBop on the Block? Favorite Gone? It’s Chaos!!!

Reuben Frank has reported that Joselio “MmmBop” Hanson is on the trading block.  The Eagles have talked to a few teams about the veteran Nickelback.  I am all in favor of dealing Hanson for a draft pick.  He’s been a good player for us, but dealing him allows us to keep the Big 3 plus Curtis Marsh, Brandon Hughes, and Trevard Lindley.  Reuben mentions in his article that we’d be talking about a 5th or 6th round pick.  That’s fair for a veteran DB who really isn’t starting material.

Howard Eskin reported on Twitter that Ryan Harris is going to need back surgery to deal with a herniated disc.  This takes him out of the running for the RT job, as if there was much doubt left at this point.  Good player, but he can’t stay healthy.  Somebody have Correll Buckhalter give him a call to cheer him up.

The Eagles made one of the worst moves in franchise history…they cut DT Marlon Favorite.  The only thing running through my head is Charlton Heston from Planet of the Apes screaming “You maniacs!!!”.

Favorite literally changed the game of football.  He rubbed his belly after getting a sack in the Baltimore game.  I bet within 2 weeks supermodels will be rubbing their belly to celebrate a good trip down the catwalk.

Last night Favorite tried to defy all of Newton’s laws at once.  He dove for a QB…that was more than 6 inches away.  Marlon didn’t make the play, but I think he made history.  And that’s more important.

Watch this clip of the “event”.  Greatness + mega-awesomeness x infinity and beyond. Or more.

I don’t know how Andy Reid and Howie Roseman can look themselves in the mirror today.  For shame.

They also cut LB Brandon Peguese, WR Terrance Turner, and RB Derrick Locke.  The roster is now at 86.  They must get down to 80 by Tuesday.

I’m working on the DGR.  Probably will post tonight.

Don’t forget to check out ScoutsNotebook on a regular basis.  The site got renovated.  I didn’t post a lot recently, but I’ll now be putting stuff up every day.  College football starts in 6 days.  Crazy how fast this summer has gone.

My best theory on the early cut of Marlon Favorite…he injured Lincoln Financial Field when he dove on it last night. Can’t have players injuring the playing field like that.

I edited the GIF of Favorite a bit so you can watch him dive on a loop. It’s almost hypnotic.

On a serious note, Tommy do you think the Eagles will keep Harris around after this back ordeal as a potential RT next year? Or does the Shawn Andrews experiment keep them away.

Any chance the “The Big Kid” Shawn aka “get My Phelps” on comes back here??

Surveyors and real estate agents throughout the Philadelphia area now are calculating the extent and the market value of the acreage between Marlon Favorite and Jarrett Brown.

I will be shocked if Shawn Andrews ever has anything to do with the Eagles organization. Andy keeps a line open to almost all his former players, but I don’t think he misses Shawn one bit.

Great player who had some physical, mental, and emotional issues.

    @ guyotc…

The 28 yard line should sue Favorite for damages. That’s definitely gravitational assault.

In the law, they call it “interference with prospective economic advantage.” Having been cut today, I think Marlon might have a case.

I could not stop laughing last night when I saw him try to do his best Dawk impersonation of the “flying Eagle tackle”. The only problem was his 300+lb frame and his 2 inch broad jump. This is one of the only instances where “not giving up on a play” was a bad football decision, but I thank him for the comic relief. Physical comedy’s next budding star?

Bummed to see Peguese get cut. I was rooting for the Hampton U. linebacker. But hey, you’ve got to earn it in this league.

i need you all to help me with this…
do you remember late in the game where someone got a sack? the guy the army crawled and looked to throw a hand grenade, just like this guy:

i’m really hoping that i’m not going crazy that i saw that correctly and also that someone has a way for me to watch it again.

    thanks!

Also, Tommy, you need to get the DGR posted before I lose power to Irene.

That was Derek Landri. I’m sure someone has a .gif file of that.

    @ Cliff…

I’m doing my best. Tell Irene to hold on for a bit.

I love Hanson but I concede that the smart move is to try and trade him for a pick. It looks like one of my favorite nicknames is creeping toward retirement

  16. 16 Ryan said at 6:58 PM on August 26th, 2011:

Time to use one of those two seconds and trade for a tackle. We’ve got a career backup and A starter at 85% protecting the franchise’s blindsided. Not good.

  17. 17 PhxPhilly said at 7:40 PM on August 26th, 2011:

Trading Hanson for 5th seems to low. He is one of the best slot corners in football. That position is on the field almost at much as the starting SAM. Are Lindley, Hughes, and/or Marsh better than Hanson? I would not think so.

The only other player I see as a good fit for slot is Hughes (maybe Asomugha). Asomugha should be stuck to the opponents top receiver all game not getting taken out of plays by TE’s just running in the flat. I’d prefer Eagles to actually try to trade Samuel for #1 since he is not really a lockdown CB. The problem is that an injury causes a huge step down to the next CB.

If Samuel was traded, Cromartie and Nmandi should be good one on one guys to lock down the outside with Hanson in the slot. Lindley is the backup on the outside with Hughes for depth. Marsh to IR.

  18. 18 theguyotc said at 8:15 PM on August 26th, 2011:

If they like Marsh, Hughes, and Lindley, then I’m all for them taking what they can get for Hanson.

With the top 3 CBs being that good it makes more sense to me to keep the young guys with potential, not the 30 year old guy who can only play slot.

  19. 19 Tommy Lawlor said at 9:10 PM on August 26th, 2011:

    @ Ryan…

Problem with trading for a RT is that I’m not sure a good one is available. I’m sure Howie/Andy would love to deal for a good OT. We’ve got the picks. Maybe some players of interest. I just don’t know what good player could be had in a trade.

Change for the sake of change means nothing. The player has to be a clear upgrade on King Dunlap.

  20. 20 Tommy Lawlor said at 9:10 PM on August 26th, 2011:

    @ guyotc…

Exactly. Hanson is older and limited. If I can trade him, do it.

Merrill never figured out that his name was “Marlon” and not “Marion.” His agent called and said that cutting him now would best suit his plan to make Canton for playing on all 32 teams.

I’m taking the news well, but I have evicted my annoying relatives from the Jersey shore because I need some time to myself.
