Some stuff from Rams coaches on dealing with Vick.  Defensive Coordinator Ken Flajole wants to box him in:

“If anything, you hopefully can encourage him to stay in the pocket and be a quarterback and not let him ad-lib and get out on the edge where he buys time for those talented receivers,” Flajole said.

He also wants his DL to play under control:

“You have to be smart how you can rush because he can really make you pay with his feet.”

The challenge is how to rush Vick, contain him, and, also take advantage of the Rams best players up front.  DE James Hall and DE Chris Long are quality pass rushers.  The Eagles should be solid at the OTs.  The weak spot is the interior and Flajole knows that:

“I hope it’s a factor for us. Their interior three are people that are either new guys or they haven’t played together for an extended period of time. Hopefully there will be an advantage for us a little bit that way, the fact that they have some newness there up front. I know our crowd will show up and it will be an exciting game.”

How do you attack our interior with your DEs?  Makes you wonder if they’ll do some slanting and run stunts.  Maybe they line the DEs up inside, like Spags was so good at doing with the NYG.  It will be interesting to see.

Reuben Frank has a list of 25 Eagles observations.  There are 3 wildcards in there, but we can forgive Reuben.  My favorites:

12. Eagles have been 2-0 once in the last 17 years. They went to the Super Bowl.

20. Eagles set a franchise record with 439 points last year. That was with Mike McGlynn in his first year at center, Max Jean-Gilles and Nick Cole at right guard, and a hobbled Winston Justice at right tackle. That was also with Kevin Kolb starting five games, Leonard Weaver lost for the season, King Dunlap at left tackle for a couple games. Even if this offensive line struggles, the Eagles are still going to put up 30 points a game if Vick is healthy.

24. Since 1987, only two Eagles linebackers have recorded at least four sacks in a season — Seth Joyner (five times) and William Thomas (four times, most recently in 1997). Crazy prediction: That streak will end this year.

Tommy, first time posting with the updated version. It seems like a nice improvement, however, I just saw that BGN is going to have BGN-TV. So when is your TV show airing? You gotta keep up the Joneses.

Nice, I coincidentally had a Disqus profile set up for some other websites(hence the avatar–its from a badass movie called “Oldboy,” I glowingly recommend it to every red-blooded film fan out there).

The witching hour is upon us, fellas. It has been a pleasure conversing with the lot of you throughout this bug-F nuts offseason, and I hope you all have a safe and enjoyable day tomorrow. E-A-G-L-E-S, Eagles!

“Oldboy” is definitely a good movie (and the second part of a well-made trilogy) but it’s a bit of a strong brew.

Viewer beware, it’s not an easy film to watch.

Best Eagles site on earth just got a little better… way to go Tommy! Ready for some real football tomorrow!!! Ready to see this talented team take the field when it counts, raw, playing for pride with heart and emotion… But lost in all this, where is the $ for Jackson?

Love it Tommy! I’m here everyday, and I’ve started commenting more often since BGN seemingly got rampaged by high-schoolers.

Your content is so good it seems to attract a very solid group of followers. I find myself enjoying the discussion below the article as much if not more than the article itself. You’ll see me as a regular throughout the season.

    It’s nice to meet y’all!

Tommy, I know we are all focused on the game tomorrow right now… but is Paul Richardson (soph. Colorado) legit? Kid looked real good today.

Watching NFC Playbook. Anyone else think Baldinger goes a little heavy on the make-up? Perhaps it’s just the color settings on my TV, but it’s like he’s just gone through “last looks” before a Kabuki show.

    A bug report:
In both Firefox and Chrome links show up underlined (sometimes) but never did before. Don’t know if it’s intentional or not.

Links supposed to be underlined. Trying a new look to see if I like that. Thanks for noticing and giving feedback.

    Good stuff with new comments.

That’s about all I have to say…. except can you believe the Eagles play a real game in 11 hours? Go birds.

I’ll be at my local watering hole here in Denver enjoying a few Great Divide Titan IPAs, Odell IPA, or some Dale’s Pale Ale. What are you drinking?

I was thinking today might be a good day to switch over to my pumpkin line-up. I love this time of year when all the brewers start to put out their “fall” or “pumpkin” brews.

  20. 20 Anonymous said at 12:27 PM on September 11th, 2011:

Reading the Rams thoughts, stunts weren’t what I was thinking. If you stunt the DE inside, you completely lose contain on Vick to that side, don’t you?

I was thinking they were going to control rush the DEs, accepting less pressure from them to keep Vick contained, and attack the middle with blitzes and trickery.

Hopefully Vick can connect with Celek, Avant, Shady (and Smith?) enough to make that plan untenable.

Wouldn’t it be ironic if having a rookie at center had the effect of neutralizing their DEs?

  21. 21 Cliff Hall said at 1:39 PM on September 11th, 2011:

    Pre-game thoughts:

    1) Marshall Faulk predicted the Rams will score 40 points today. OK…

    2) How does someone get the nickname “Matty Ice” when they haven’t won a single playoff game? You can’t have a reputation for your calm, clutch demeanor when you haven’t performed in the pressure-cooker NFL playoffs.

Let’s hope for that 2-0 start again! Finally, I’m back down in south jersey for this season and I don’t have to drive by the meadowlands everyday putting a hex on the place.

I need some quick help, guys. I just had a family emergency that I must attend to. I will be without a TV during the Eagles game. First time in my life this has ever happened. I don’t have DVR. How the hell am I gonna watch this??
