PHI at ATL – 1st half

Posted: September 18th, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 104 Comments »

Rough day.  WAS and DAL both had comeback wins.  Cards defense was awful in loss to Skins.  Niners blew 10 pt lead in the 4th quarter. Jim Harbaugh made some “interesting” choices.  Ugh.

* * * * *

Inactives for us:

G Julian Vandervelde
T Winston Justice
QB Vince Young

DE Darryl Tapp
LB Akeem Jordan
CB Curtis Marsh
S Jaiquawn Jarrett

There are no real surprises.  We knew Phillip Hunt would play in place of Tapp.  Jordan is hurt.  The most interesting thing is that Danny Watkins is active.  It would be great if we had a blowout (in our favor of course) and he could get some game reps.

Really excited to see what Hunt can do.

Go Eagles !!!

I hope Andy/Marty put some easy/short/safe throws for Vick to start the game to let him get in a rhythm and get the butterflies out. Don’t be afraid to get Shady involved early either. Let that O-line get some push and build confidence in them. It’s going to be a lot louder this week and having some positive plays to start the game and putting some points on the board will be huge.

Something tells me we’ll come out aggressive. Play fake, deep ball to Maclin.

I’d love to see some 5-wr sets. If the D play man, vick will have loads of scrambling room

What do the Eagles do with “the script” if they start the game on the Falcon’s 15 yrd line due to an Asante Samuel interception?

Awkward 3rd/1 play. Didn’t look very smooth.

Was that poor blocking on the run or did Shady go the wrong way, or both?

  24. 24 Anonymous said at 12:49 AM on September 19th, 2011:

Yeah, we’ve got to watch that. Amazing he got away with that hit. He’ll draw a few flags this year.

  25. 25 Mac said at 12:48 AM on September 19th, 2011:

Good pass blocking on 3rd down, not sure if Vick saw a pass interference and just kinda chucked it in there?

  26. 26 Matt Hoover said at 12:51 AM on September 19th, 2011:

Wow was that Foku again? On PR? missing tackle?

    Asante Samuel sets the edge…

  30. 30 Niklas Dyrby Johansen said at 12:56 AM on September 19th, 2011:

I always wondered, what is Avant doing on the FG block team?

  31. 31 Anonymous said at 12:57 AM on September 19th, 2011:

I wrote in the preview that field position would be crucial. Falcons got the ball at the 38 and then we also gave them penalty yds. Can’t do that. Make them go the long field.

  32. 32 Mac said at 12:58 AM on September 19th, 2011:

So far the Falcon’s are looking a lot better on special teams.

  33. 33 Anonymous said at 12:59 AM on September 19th, 2011:

They start at the PHI 38. We start at our 15. Ugh. Bad decision by Dion. Gotta get that kid to settle down.

  34. 34 Matt Ditty said at 1:13 AM on September 19th, 2011:

Field position? We don’t need no stinkin’ field position.

  35. 35 Matt Ditty said at 12:59 AM on September 19th, 2011:

…and then Dion Lewis runs it out on kickoff. Again.

  36. 36 Chuck Coe said at 12:59 AM on September 19th, 2011:

We need to learn how to stop the counter play out of the wide nine.

  37. 37 Anonymous said at 12:59 AM on September 19th, 2011:

    Earl Thomas would’ve stopped that.

  38. 38 Matt Hoover said at 1:01 AM on September 19th, 2011:

@Nik I believe to catch a short field goal?

  39. 39 Niklas Dyrby Johansen said at 1:09 AM on September 19th, 2011:

    But on an extra point?

I’m digging the current drive. Nice mix of run and pass. Creative running plays.

  46. 46 Mac said at 1:11 AM on September 19th, 2011:

Great drive, capped by an athletic td pass by vick… hope Shady is feeling alright and just had a stinger type thing.

  47. 47 Anonymous said at 1:13 AM on September 19th, 2011:

Great to see Mac key part of the gameplan tonight. Should end any concerns about him.

Got nervous about Shady’s hand. Don’t want anything wrong with that dude.

  48. 48 Anonymous said at 1:15 AM on September 19th, 2011:

Vick, Maclin, Jackson, Shady….Unreal, wish they could draft linebackers like they did the latter 3 I mentioned.

  49. 49 Eric Weaver said at 1:20 AM on September 19th, 2011:

Wasn’t that basically the same play they ran 2 years ago in Atlanta?

  50. 50 Niklas Dyrby Johansen said at 1:25 AM on September 19th, 2011:

It went to Celek back then. I think they ran the exact same play last year, where it also went to Maclin. I just don’t remember which game.

  54. 54 Eric Weaver said at 1:21 AM on September 19th, 2011:

Plays like that illustrate why I hate the current challenge system. As long as you keep getting it right, you should be able to keep challenging. Obviously it’s rare to even have 2 to 3 challenges needed in a game, but still.

  58. 58 Eric Weaver said at 1:27 AM on September 19th, 2011:

  60. 60 Niklas Dyrby Johansen said at 1:27 AM on September 19th, 2011:

What was that? A 12th man running off the field just prior to the snap?

The protection seems to be pretty good tonight so far.

  62. 62 Eric Weaver said at 1:29 AM on September 19th, 2011:

Andy just kills me. 3rd and 1 with a first down in sight to have a goal-to-go and we take away half the field again. If you go up 7 there instead of 3, you change the dynamic of the game. You help the defense.

  63. 63 Anonymous said at 1:31 AM on September 19th, 2011:

Still trying to be too cute. That will always drive me nuts…unless we ever get great at it. Then do it all you like.

  89. 89 Eric Carranza said at 1:48 AM on September 19th, 2011:

so far so good i’ll settle for a fg considering how our offense seems to be driving so far

  91. 91 Chuck Coe said at 1:45 AM on September 19th, 2011:

That stunk. Gotta see what happened there.

  92. 92 Nathan said at 1:48 AM on September 19th, 2011:

Looked like Jason Peters was pulling to make the trap and Perry just flew up the field before he could get there.

  93. 93 Eric Weaver said at 1:45 AM on September 19th, 2011:

This offense is really hurting the defense tonight. Go up 17-7 or 21-7 and it’s basically game over with this line and secondary.

    Andy is killing Juan.

  94. 94 Chuck Coe said at 1:48 AM on September 19th, 2011:

Defensive lineman was too focused on Vick to be influenced.

  95. 95 the guy said at 1:47 AM on September 19th, 2011:

Turnover, then bad coverage, then missed tackles.

  96. 96 Eric Weaver said at 1:50 AM on September 19th, 2011:

So because Andy wanted to not run basic goal line plays, the Eagles will go into halftime down 14-10 with Atlanta getting the ball; instead of going in probably 17-7.

  97. 97 Mac said at 1:52 AM on September 19th, 2011:

    or at least up 13-7

  98. 98 Anonymous said at 1:52 AM on September 19th, 2011:

Hey!! Andy Reid does not run basic plays! The common man runs basic plays. An offensive genius runs the cool/tricky plays. Now go wash your mouth out with soap!

  99. 99 Zachary said at 1:52 AM on September 19th, 2011:

Talk about a bad turn of events for the Eagles…..have a chance to start to control the game, and then nevermind

  103. 103 Steve H said at 2:06 AM on September 19th, 2011:

Well, it could be worse. I’m glad Nnamdi is playing well tonight so we don’t have to listen to another week of people questioning whether he was really all that great. Tremendous blanket coverage on Julio Jones that one play and then the interception. Someone forget to tell Matt Ryan you’re not supposed to target Asomugha.
