Game Thread – PHI at WAS, 2nd half

Posted: October 16th, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 186 Comments »

We’re up 20-3.

Complete dominance in the 1st half. The first thing to do is mention the SF game when we also blew a 20-3 halftime lead, but that game was a sloppy affair even when we led.  This game is very different.  Skins have 6 run plays for 19 yards.

Our defense came to play today.

Be smart and we’ll win this game.  It helps that the Skins are minus a couple of starting OL.  They are down to just 5 so they can’t afford injuries.  It also helps that Rex Grossman is playing like Rex Grossman.

As for our offense…holding onto the ball and letting Shady do his thing.  17 carries in the 1st half?  Even I didn’t see that.

Go Eagles.

Hopefully the Eagles have seen that NFL Play 60 commercial, so they remember how long a game is.

    Skins 23, Eagles 20 (OT)

Remember, it is still the Eagles..

They’re playing for their coach’s job this half.

Time for this squad to play 4 quarters. Finish a game, finish a game they started.

  8. 8 marc said at 2:42 PM on October 16th, 2011:

Stick to the CLASSIC West-Coast Offense: 3-step drops / quick passes / with a nice dose of runs.

The middle’s been open all day — Marty NEEDS to call a crossing route.

And in the RZ — get Riley Cooper out there, at least once.

Lastly . . . I hope Marty and Andy haven’t been waiting to go 65%-35% pass / run until the 2nd half.

In 15 minutes of play, the enemy will be the clock.

Foot to throat Eagles. Foot to throat.

I think you mean the Redskins’ throat. Don’t even hint at a choke.

  11. 11 Corry Henry said at 2:50 PM on October 16th, 2011:

I actually meant “Foot to throat [COMMA] Eagles”, as in I’m talking to them….grammar fail.

  12. 12 the guy said at 2:44 PM on October 16th, 2011:

I realize they are actually recovering them in this game, but how about the offense stops having the ball batted up in the air on the way to a dominating victory.

    So much for that hope.

    RE: Fred Davis

Can you give us a quick rundown on what the Eagles need to do clamp down on this guy.

He’s the ‘skins only weapon . . . Nnamdi owns the right side of the field. Asante’s doing his job.

    Shanny pulled out his trickery.

The Eagles (or at least the fans) were holding their breath.

And he got only 3 points. That’s it.

    I’ll take it.

    MEMO TO MARTY . . .

Use the 3-step drop for passes w/ a sliding pocket. Mix in the run.

Keep the Birds’ defense OFF the field.

On the other hand, maybe the defense should be ON the field.

The defense can’t turnover the ball.

I really don’t have much confidence in this team going forward. And this game, despite whether they win, doesn’t disprove that to me.

A win is a win in the NFL, but I don’t consider the Redskins anything better than an 8-8 team and the Eagles can’t put 4 good quarters against them.

Alright boys. Up 14. 6 and half to go. Good day so far. Let’s finish this thing.

Would love to see the pass rush come up big here. Jason Babin…talking to you.

Marty and Andy’s failure to make adjustments — or adjustments to their adjustments — on the Offense is VERY disappointing.

A team with a Top-15 QB would have the Redskins back in this game.

    Very disappointing.

Juan — Cudos. Even though it’s Grossman and Beck.

Why . . . because Juan game planned to take away the run. And he did.

That’s why the ‘Skins lack of a decent QB cost them the game — or at least making this close.

  160. 160 the guy said at 3:57 PM on October 16th, 2011:

No matter what the outcome, I better not see any ignorant comments about the defense this week. They didn’t allow a TD until 3mins left in the game.

The offense has entirely failed in the second half. Time to redeem themselves.

  161. 161 Anonymous said at 4:05 PM on October 16th, 2011:

No question. I have been very much against castillo so far, but the defense showed up today. Offense has disappeared. After our first two scoring drives, we played poorly in the redzone the next two tries, and after that, we haven’t been moving the ball well.

200 yards rushing, a dramatically improved defensive performance, dominated time of possession… I don’t care about the final score, or how we go there.

It is a WIN. And it feels GOOD.
