Saturday Stuff

I put up a College Game Primer over at ScoutsNotebook.

I didn’t cover Penn State / Illinois.  If you do watch PSU, check out DT Devon Still.  He’s 6’5, 305 and could be an Eagles target.

Some Eagles trivia.  Buddy Ryan was a coach who believed in running the ball.  But boy were the Eagles bad at it during his tenure.  We didn’t have a single 100-yard game by a RB or QB during the 1988 and 1989 seasons.  Wow.  We then had a stretch of 20 games under Kotite in 1993-94 without a 100-yard rusher.

Shady already has 3 such games this year.

It is almost cruelly ironic that Ryan, the running coach, couldn’t run and that Reid, the passing coach, can.

I’ll post some more Dallas thoughts later on.  Time to watch some college football.

Lucky for us, Vick loves the cold and the snow, right?

I’ sure we’ll change our offensive game plan accordingly…. Don’t we always!

Oh god, we’re going to throw deep all game aren’t we… oh god…

    Devon Still is a beast.

Passing on him in the 1st round would be a mistake. Passing on him in the 2nd round or later would be a crime.

I think he’s the best DT prospect in this draft. Much better than the overrated Jerrel Worthy.

I’d like the Eagles to take a flyer on McGloin or Bolden. They are pretty good.

Please tell me you are joking…or under the influence of some really, really heavy drugs.

Of course I am. Joking and under the influence.

On the RB theme, with the Ronnie Brown no trade, what interest may we have in Tashard Choice?

  9. 9 Anonymous said at 7:33 PM on October 29th, 2011:

Last year I’d have said yes, but Choice seems to have hit hard times. Not sure what his deal is. Loved him in 2009. Now…not so keen on him.

Just think of all the autographs he could get here!

I loved choice when he came out, I’d be ok with bringing him in for a look.

Touching piece up from Vicki Johnson, the late Jim Johnsons wife. Couple of humorous parts including:

I used to give Jim football advice
“I was a high school cheerleader, so I did know football. I knew the basics. I used to give (Jim) my opinion and he would just look at me.”

    Tommy:

What do you think of Baylor’s Robert Griffin III.

He reminds me so much of Randall Cunningham. Maybe a bit more quick. Not as tall. But a very solid 6’2″ 220lbs

But he’s so incredibly accurate on long passes.

He’s a true junior. Besides “Son of Oliver,”who’s the next best NFL QB prospect?

Where’s Griffin fit if he comes out?

I think he’s an NFL franchise QB because of his accuracy, arm strength, size, and character

Griffin is legit NFL prospect. Not sure who I like more, him or Barkley. Both guys are good players and pretty high character types.

Tommy what are your thoughts on Kheeston Randall?

  18. 18 Anonymous said at 10:49 PM on October 29th, 2011:

Watched a little tape of him recently and wasn’t all that impressed. Need to study him more to get a better feel for him.

Maybe not the most exciting prospect but I’d like the Eagles to pick up Philip Lutzenkirchen from Auburn. He’s a TE but they use him more often as a fullback. He would be a vast improvement over Owen Schmitt in terms of pass-catching ability (12 of 37 receptions have been TDs). Tonight he had a very impressive one-hand pluck for a score after working as a lead blocker for the length of the drive.
