Chicago Game Thread – 1st Half

Here are the inactives:

QB Mike Kafka
OL Winston Justice
OL Julian Vandervelde

DE Phillip Hunt
DE Juqua Parker
CB Curtis Marsh
S Jarrad Page

This means we’ll see DE Brandon Graham make his 2011 debut.  I’m curious to see what he can do.  He will have fresh legs so it’s possible that he’ll look a bit faster tonight than some other players.  Or his less than 100 percent ACL could render him to be a marginal player.  We’ll see.

Big game.  Hold onto the ball, tackle well, and let’s go win this thing.

Go Eagles !!!

Hmmm. Graham over Hunt is interesting. Hopefully it means we have a healthy new sacking machine

DRC reminds me of a young Asante in his tackling…only slightly worse.

He reminds me of the other Cromartie.

I love posting here and reading but I usually don’t do your game threads Tommy. Make me regret it, Iggles Blitz gang!

I’m happy with those inactives. Odd season for Justice, he makes one spot start and looks pretty good, and otherwise we haven’t needed him. Still healing?

    Come on Graham!

    DRC is so disappointingly soft

  11. 11 Anonymous said at 8:50 PM on November 7th, 2011:

Ugghh well at least our run D gets better as the game progresses… usually

  13. 13 Anonymous said at 8:50 PM on November 7th, 2011:

Common Juan. Let’s see what your gonna do to adjust. Dixon is needed in this game big time. Need some beef.

  20. 20 Anonymous said at 8:53 PM on November 7th, 2011:

That wasn’t much fun. Let’s hop the offense gets off to a better start.

  21. 21 Anonymous said at 8:53 PM on November 7th, 2011:

    Well that opening drive sucked.

BUT … My worry isn’t that we can’t win a shootout with the Bears. It’s that Vick will start pressing and get all turnovery like he did before when we were trailing.

If we go match this with a TD drive of our own we’re good.

If we go three and out we’re good.

Only way we’re not good is if we go off the rails on this drive.

Pleeease be the good Vick, pleeease be the good Vick, pleeease be the good Vick,

  22. 22 Anonymous said at 9:00 PM on November 7th, 2011:

So he (Vick) didn’t hear ya.

  23. 23 Anonymous said at 9:24 PM on November 7th, 2011:

    We’re not off the rails.

The D settled down. The offense isn’t pressing.

A TD would be nice. A FG I guess would be okay. This team has to be able win ugly too. They aren’t all going to go like the Cowboys game.

  24. 24 Anonymous said at 8:54 PM on November 7th, 2011:

I wait all week to watch this…..someone refund my ticket money please

  25. 25 Anonymous said at 8:55 PM on November 7th, 2011:

Well, that confirms my concerns with Forte…. Gotta be better against the run.

  26. 26 Anonymous said at 8:55 PM on November 7th, 2011:

Finally having a dangerous kick returner pays off

  27. 27 Anonymous said at 8:57 PM on November 7th, 2011:

Alright Bears kicker kicks it out of bounds. That’s our longest kickoff return of the season!

  28. 28 Anonymous said at 9:00 PM on November 7th, 2011:

Forgive me if I fall into the Milton camp tonight. I simply cannot understand how we make average teams look like the toast of the town?

  29. 29 Anonymous said at 9:02 PM on November 7th, 2011:

Forte is having a great year. He’s far from an average RB. That drive was mainly him.

  30. 30 Anonymous said at 9:00 PM on November 7th, 2011:

Quality punt from Henry, especially considering the returner.

  31. 31 Anonymous said at 9:01 PM on November 7th, 2011:

Well, if the eagles lose tonight, we will have many months to talk about the draft. And no, I don’t want Castillo back!

  40. 40 Eric Weaver said at 9:05 PM on November 7th, 2011:

They’re only rushing 4 and guys are still wide open every time.

Bears 5-5 on 3rd downs already?

  41. 41 Anonymous said at 9:06 PM on November 7th, 2011:

Bears offensive line looks pretty legit so far. I know they switched up their OL version of Jarrad Page and they’re a little better, but crapola … we aren’t getting any penetration. Run plays, pass plays, whatever.

I’m not just imagining this, right? People who know football well … that line is dominating so far, no?

  42. 42 Corry Henry said at 9:07 PM on November 7th, 2011:

    Oh for crying out loud

  43. 43 Eric Weaver said at 9:07 PM on November 7th, 2011:

Haha. Guys flying by him. They are max protecting and still guys are wide open!

  44. 44 Anonymous said at 9:08 PM on November 7th, 2011:

We are doing a much better job at getting people after Forte, but now Cutler is beating us.

  45. 45 Zachary said at 9:09 PM on November 7th, 2011:

Defense is looking like complete shit right now. They can’t get off the field. Prove me wrong.

  48. 48 Anonymous said at 9:09 PM on November 7th, 2011:

  50. 50 Anonymous said at 9:11 PM on November 7th, 2011:

  51. 51 Anonymous said at 9:35 PM on November 7th, 2011:

These kind of games suck you in.

Because you know it’s going to be a crapfest by mid-first quarter but you *have* to watch.

  52. 52 Zachary said at 9:09 PM on November 7th, 2011:

Finally, bout god damn time they made a stop

  53. 53 Eric Weaver said at 9:10 PM on November 7th, 2011:

As we all know, your bread and butter is on 3rd down defense and red zone defense. Things they are not doing well.

  54. 54 Anonymous said at 9:10 PM on November 7th, 2011:

Does it seem like the bears are using a lot of cut blocks? Seems like Babin and Cole are being cut on every play

  55. 55 Mike Roman said at 9:10 PM on November 7th, 2011:

We need better defense than this on a night where we honor Buddy.

  56. 56 the guy said at 9:11 PM on November 7th, 2011:

    I hate this game already.

  57. 57 Anonymous said at 9:36 PM on November 7th, 2011:

    It’s a hateable one.

They need to be able to win ugly. Unfortunately we can’t afford to walk the tightrope of losing ugly.

  58. 58 Anonymous said at 9:11 PM on November 7th, 2011:

Run defense getting better. Forte had 5-52. Now has 9-52.

  59. 59 Zachary said at 9:13 PM on November 7th, 2011:

Looks to me like they are stacking the box and daring em to run to pass on early downs. That said they aren’t exactly stopping Cutler either.

  60. 60 Anonymous said at 9:14 PM on November 7th, 2011:

They did a much better job of pursuing the ball and gang tackling on that drive. We now need to solve the pressuring Cutler problem, but I liked the adjustment in the run game at least.

  61. 61 Anonymous said at 9:15 PM on November 7th, 2011:

  64. 64 Zachary said at 9:15 PM on November 7th, 2011:

Nothing is looking open. Run or Pass. I’d like a deep pass call, for Vick to get some room.

  65. 65 Zachary said at 9:15 PM on November 7th, 2011:

3rd and 5, not what I want to see.

  66. 66 Anonymous said at 9:18 PM on November 7th, 2011:

I can work with that 3rd down play though.

  67. 67 Zachary said at 9:18 PM on November 7th, 2011:

One quarter gone. This game wreaks of the kind of let down this team can ill afford. Hate to sound defeated (I always do)….but this isn’t the kind of start we need.
    Bears 7 – Eagles 0
    Bear 7 first down – Eagles 1
    Bears 119 yards – Eagles 30

  68. 68 Jon Blank said at 9:18 PM on November 7th, 2011:

C’mon Eagles, sack up (no offense Asante). Absolutely can’t afford to lose this one.

    Allen with a concussion…..great, f’ing great

  70. 70 Anonymous said at 9:21 PM on November 7th, 2011:

The way the Bears are playing us on defense, you would think we would be able to get something deep at some point of the game.

  75. 75 Anonymous said at 9:25 PM on November 7th, 2011:

I know it’s not good Nate went down, but I can’t tell you how much happier I am to see Jarrett out there getting a shot instead of Page. At least we’ll get to see a little of what he can do.

  76. 76 Anonymous said at 9:28 PM on November 7th, 2011:

Yeah, I’m interested to see what he can do.

  77. 77 Anonymous said at 9:37 PM on November 7th, 2011:

  86. 86 Anonymous said at 9:28 PM on November 7th, 2011:

Speechless…….I guess we can start that draft conversation sooner than later

  87. 87 Andrew Moore said at 9:29 PM on November 7th, 2011:

I just have zero confidence in this team. Our redzone efficiency was terrible last year. Our whole agenda this year was about getting TDs instead of FGs, but instead of that we’ve decided to get INTs instead of FGs.

    It’s absolutely killing us.

  88. 88 Anonymous said at 9:29 PM on November 7th, 2011:

Ouch. Last two weeks was a tease. The old Eagles are back!!

  89. 89 Andrew Moore said at 9:30 PM on November 7th, 2011:

I was optimistic that we might win this game until that first Bears drive. For whatever reason we just do not match up well with this team.

  90. 90 Andrew Moore said at 9:31 PM on November 7th, 2011:

A good running game, playmaking linebackers, and a QB that can make plays with his legs. That’s basically the recipe to kill us.

  91. 91 Anonymous said at 9:31 PM on November 7th, 2011:

    This is pathetic

  92. 92 Jon Blank said at 9:31 PM on November 7th, 2011:

  94. 94 Anonymous said at 9:31 PM on November 7th, 2011:

Wow 3rd down defense is awful

  95. 95 Anonymous said at 9:31 PM on November 7th, 2011:

D has got to play better than that. No way you should give up a 3rd and 16.

  96. 96 Zachary said at 9:32 PM on November 7th, 2011:

Game is over, it was over in the first, it’s over in the 2nd. A 3rd and 16? you give that up? Give me a break. They are beating us on the ground, we stack the box, they kill us through the air. Game over.

  97. 97 Anonymous said at 9:33 PM on November 7th, 2011:

  98. 98 Corry Henry said at 9:33 PM on November 7th, 2011:

But don’t you agree that Dion Lewis has NO business returning kicks?

Do the Eagles even have a player who can do that?

No? Hmmm. Where have I heard that before.

  116. 116 Andrew Moore said at 9:39 PM on November 7th, 2011:

I suspect we’ll show up in the third quarter, with a blistering offensive performance, put up two TDs and a field goal, then we’ll lose the game in heartbreaking fashion in the fourth quarter.

How does the wildcard picture look like?

  126. 126 Andrew Moore said at 9:46 PM on November 7th, 2011:

Terrible. Lions are probably going to win 11. The other teams we’re likely in competition with are the Falcons and the Bears (we’ll probably have losses to both of them). Maybe the Cowboys too.

  127. 127 Jon Blank said at 9:47 PM on November 7th, 2011:

A loss tonight and the Eagles are 2 games back of Atlanta for the final wildcard spot with Atlanta holding the tiebreaker.

  130. 130 Andrew Moore said at 9:44 PM on November 7th, 2011:

Seriously – could we look worse?

  132. 132 Zachary said at 9:48 PM on November 7th, 2011:

We are really gonna need a huge defensive play to have a chance.

    Henery – sketchy.

    The guy’s kickoffs are weak

And he doinks a FG from 47?

What the hell is going on?

  135. 135 Anonymous said at 9:49 PM on November 7th, 2011:

This is pathetic. Wake your boys up Mudd!! Getting the QB killed. Peppers is definitely somebody I’d block!!!

  136. 136 Anonymous said at 9:49 PM on November 7th, 2011:

I hope he proves me wrong, but I think Henery is going to be another waste of a draft pick….

  137. 137 Andrew Moore said at 9:51 PM on November 7th, 2011:

I think he’ll be fine. He’s a rookie. It’ll take him a while to get more confident. I have no problem with the Henery pick. Akers was looking real shakey last year. He was losing us games instead of winning us. They had to make a move. They could have brought in a veteran, but I have no problem going after a guy if they think he’s going to be a Crosby/Gostkowski type – plug him in and keep him there for 10 years.

  138. 138 Anonymous said at 9:49 PM on November 7th, 2011:

We’re not playing well right now, but the doom and gloom already in this game is a bit intense. You would think we are down by 20 based on the comments here. We’re down 7, if we can hold them here, we get the ball at the beginning of the 3rd quarter with a chance to tie it up. We have played a lot better against Forte, we seem to be getting the Bears into 3rd and long situations, we just have to stop those 3rd downs. Offensively, the Bears are defending us pretty well, but we are still slowly moving the ball down the field.

  144. 144 Anonymous said at 9:57 PM on November 7th, 2011:

You have momentum. You don’t even need to score on that last drive. You’re getting the ball in the 2nd half with a chance to go up.

That guy wants 10 million a year? No, thanks.

10 points off turnovers. These guys never learn.

yup. no faith in this team in close, ugly games

  210. 210 Andrew Moore said at 10:15 PM on November 7th, 2011:

I always think of this team like a very delicate machine. They’re only built to win one way. They need to get a huge lead early and then they kill you with their pass rush and good pass defense. It’s always been Andy’s strategy. It’s so frustrating because the minute we run into a team that can run or the first time a team takes away the big-play we cannot, CANNOT rebound. Infuriating.

  211. 211 Zachary said at 10:13 PM on November 7th, 2011:

I can’t believe how undisciplined this team is. It starts with Andy. Hate to say it, but the magic may have finally worn off.

  222. 222 Anonymous said at 10:21 PM on November 7th, 2011:

  223. 223 Andrew Moore said at 10:16 PM on November 7th, 2011:

Celek was such an idiot at the end of that half. He caught the ball within an inch of the sideline and decided to be a tough guy and turn in back into the field of play so that he could charge into a Bears defender. Stupid football. That’s why we’re going to lose.

  224. 224 Anonymous said at 10:18 PM on November 7th, 2011:

The entire team does stupid shit like that…..that’s why we have a losing record. Furthermore, the fact that the coaches aren’t providing the proper motivation to correct the mistakes is all the more reason someone needs to be fired. Both players and coaches

  225. 225 Anonymous said at 10:24 PM on November 7th, 2011:

So, is Akeem Jordan a normal player in goal line defense? Saw him on the replay of Barber’s TD.

  226. 226 Anonymous said at 10:26 PM on November 7th, 2011:

Why do we make the same mistakes again and again? I presume it is because the coaches aren’t providing the players with the proper motivation to correct the mistakes or it is because the players aren’t listening to the coaches.

Either way is a failure of leadership.
