NE at PHI – 2nd Half

Posted: November 27th, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 153 Comments »

We got up 10-0.  Life was good.

And then reality set in.

The Pats then went on a 24-3 run.  They now lead 24-13.  The defense has had a few blown coverages.  Guys are just making dumb mistakes.  DBs bit on a play fake like it was 4th/GL from the 1.  That led to easy long TD for Welker.  Just can’t do crap like that.

Vince started great, but then fell in love with the big play.  Mix those in, but you must also move the chains.  Didn’t help that a couple of non-calls let the Pats get the ball. Ugh.

Must get a stop and then score a TD early in the 3rd to keep this game close.

The good news here for Reid lovers is, he’ll blame his bad luck and injuries at the end of the year for the shitty effort he and his players gave.

  2. 2 Corry Henry said at 5:58 PM on November 27th, 2011:

We all trash Castillo for his defense, but how much do you blame Zordich and Lynne for the back 7’s issues?

  3. 3 Steve H said at 5:59 PM on November 27th, 2011:

This team kills me, I could understand if the Pats were just beating us senseless but Jesus, at least make them make plays. Critical game too.

  4. 4 Zachary said at 5:59 PM on November 27th, 2011:

The question I have, is how many more games will this team win? Will they go 8-8 being highly medicore and get a medicore draft pick by playing slightly better in the meaningless games. Or willt hey continue to suck to let us get a decent pick, although driving me insane on game days? Playoffs are out. Heck even spoiler is out, not like we can ruin Dallas or the Giants season as they face each other two times.

  5. 5 the guy said at 6:00 PM on November 27th, 2011:

The worst for me was the playcalling on the second FG. You need a TD and to run down the clock. McCoy already scored in the RZ and is the best offensive player. So naturally they call 3 straight passes.

I don’t care that DeSean dropped a TD pass. It would have still been dumb.

  6. 6 Zachary said at 6:02 PM on November 27th, 2011:

I fully agree. That was shitty play calling, but that isn’t new.

  7. 7 Zachary said at 6:01 PM on November 27th, 2011:

We need a turnover and Brady has been turning it over this year. But shocker we’d be the team that he wouldn’t do that agianst.

Patroits already about 2 first downs from going up 13. They just fucking murder us.

  12. 12 Zachary said at 6:03 PM on November 27th, 2011:

Anyone have that before the game? That Brady would have 50% of the carries that LeSean has?

We’re out of our depths, here. Talent-wise, coaching-wise, performance-wise… Patriots are just a more well-equipped team than us. At least I don’t feel sick to my stomach losing to them like I did the Cardinals.

  18. 18 Corry Henry said at 6:07 PM on November 27th, 2011:

I hate losing but the only thing I’m thinking is “meh”. I wasn’t expecting a whole lot, though I would like to see the back 7 stop embarassing themselves.

  19. 19 Zachary said at 6:07 PM on November 27th, 2011:

I’m not sure they are that much more talented than us on a individual to individual basis. That said we have shit coaching and the players don’t step up.

  21. 21 Corry Henry said at 6:06 PM on November 27th, 2011:

Accuracy by the QB is more important than anything: Rodgers, Brady, Brees, Manning.

So . . . does RG III have that kind of accuracy?

    Vick doesn’t. Young is scary.

  26. 26 Zachary said at 6:08 PM on November 27th, 2011:

Walk up and down the field. It’s like a pre season game. First team offense out against a second team defense. That’s what this game looks like. The Patriots are playing their starters and we’re playing our back-ups. Problem is these are our starters and this is a shitty job of getting them ready.

  27. 27 Anonymous said at 6:09 PM on November 27th, 2011:

Well at least free agency was fun. Here’s to hoping we get good young guys in the draft!

  28. 28 Zachary said at 6:13 PM on November 27th, 2011:

They’ll draft a defensive lineman. Maybe a offensive lineman. It will be a meaningless pick that they’ll miss on ala Brandon Graham, Jermone McDougal, Shawn Andrews or Danny Watkins (who is going to turn 30 before his contract is up). We have shitty talent evaluators overall. They just like throwing a handful of drafts at the board to make themselves look good.

  29. 29 ike said at 6:10 PM on November 27th, 2011:

I’ve never seen Avant do anything remotely like Welker.

Yes. Welker’s small and quick. Avant’s not.

    That’s the POINT!

  30. 30 Zachary said at 6:10 PM on November 27th, 2011:

I’m pretty sure it’s a terrible idea, but I want nothing more than this whole coaching staff to be removed. I don’t care if we suck the next 10 years.. I just can’t believe the fat ass gets so much credit for being a good coach when it’s obvious we suck, and without JJ we really suck.

  31. 31 Zachary said at 6:11 PM on November 27th, 2011:

We just plaiyng for a pick now?

  33. 33 Anonymous said at 6:11 PM on November 27th, 2011:

It seems like Hanson has been the guy on Welker most of the night. I don’t mind that game plan going in considering Hanson is our best slot corner, but 105 yds and two TDs later (which are not necessarily all on Hanson), shouldn’t the game plan be adjusted?

  34. 34 Steve H said at 6:12 PM on November 27th, 2011:

Doing the dumbest thing we could possibly do, switching into more zone coverage. Now Brady can just throw those timing routes that he nails all day every day. You have to press and try to throw off the timing of their recievers, how many times must he carve up zones before teams stop doing that?

  35. 35 Anonymous said at 6:12 PM on November 27th, 2011:

I do think it’s worth mentioning that the Pats have the #2 offense in DVOA, but that doesn’t excuse today’s performance.

The offense isn’t just not playing well, they’re not playing well against a terrible, banged-up defense. They’re playing poorly against a team so hurt in the secondary that they’re playing a WR at CB. Yet they’ve scored 13 points and are 1-8 on 3rd down.

  81. 81 Anonymous said at 7:03 PM on November 27th, 2011:

Wow, CBS gave the game the axe entirely. Merciful? I suppose. But I’m a glutton for punishment, I never turn a game off early. Damn.

Arizona won so that draft pick gets worse. It may even eventually be a worse pick than the Eagles’ own 2nd rounder.

  118. 118 Kammich said at 7:10 PM on November 27th, 2011:

Dear god, thats a scary thought. I don’t even think that the most pessimistic of “Negadelphians” would’ve called that one prior to Week 1.

  119. 119 Anonymous said at 7:07 PM on November 27th, 2011:

The Eagles need to lose more games. Otherwise, what’s the point of having a disaster of a season.

    I’ll root for good plays..

    But wins don’t matter anymore.

What matter is getting RG-III. Not an MLB. Not a SLB. Not a DT.

RG-III. (The guy was a near Olympic hurdler — despite the shotgun, he’ll be a top 5 pick.

He’s the closest thing to D-Mac in 10 years. (Cam Newtons’ in a class of his own)

Reid’ll be back next year. So will Marty. Give RG-III a year of tenderizing.

Then cut loose Vick and Go w/ RG-III.

  120. 120 Mac said at 7:14 PM on November 27th, 2011:

Can’t say that I can argue with that.. but man, the Cards need to start losing games again for that 2nd round pick as well.

  121. 121 Anonymous said at 7:07 PM on November 27th, 2011:

Boy our second team defense looks pretty bad against their second team offense. Wait a second…

  122. 122 Anonymous said at 7:08 PM on November 27th, 2011:

I don’t see how Castillo possibly stays after this season, and frankly, AR has to go after this season as well. There is no excuse for how uninspired this team has played and how sloppy we continually have played all season. Despite having a quality history hear as the Eagles head coach, he should be held accountable for the way we have played throughout the year.

  123. 123 Anonymous said at 7:09 PM on November 27th, 2011:

Another HOME loss for the Eagles.

Maybe if Laurie/Banner cut prices and get some of the more passionate — as opposed to the financially elite — fans back in the sands, the Eagles might win a home game again.

  124. 124 Mac said at 9:22 PM on November 27th, 2011:

I’m afraid it may take more than that to turn around the attitude of the crowd in that stadium. I swear, sometimes I’m more embarrassed by the actions of the fans that I am the team. No I’m not talking about any of the “over the top ignorant” things that have been done. I am talking about not playing an active role in helping the team win. It’s gotten to the point that when we need a big defensive play, the fans are too busy waiting for the next chance to boo rather than disrupt the opposing offense. It’s freaking retarded, and gotten to the point that playing at home is a disadvantage. If Lurie wants to move the Eagles to LA I’m all for it. I love the Eagles and I want them to have the same kind of advantage the Saints and Seahawks have. It just ain’t right…

  127. 127 Anonymous said at 7:13 PM on November 27th, 2011:

Just hope they don’t get crazy and win some games now. Let Nmamdi sit for a few weeks. Hughes and Marsh could use some time. No need to rush Vick back. Heck I would sit Lesean for a few weeks,
Just to make sure he doesn’t blow out a knee in a meaningless season. Oh and sit Juan too…just run a base 4-3 over/under like In Madden. It works for me!!

  128. 128 Anonymous said at 7:14 PM on November 27th, 2011:

This season was never about winning. It was about Banner and Andy teaching Desean a lesson.

  131. 131 Anonymous said at 7:14 PM on November 27th, 2011:

Why is Chad Hall playing WR if VY is in?

If you’re going with the Practice Squad scrubs, put in the 3rd string QB – Kafka.

And where’s Jarrett at safety — give the guy some experience.

    Hell, Watkins is playing.

  132. 132 Anonymous said at 7:19 PM on November 27th, 2011:

My guess is Vick isn’t playing on Thursday (certainly shouldn’t now), so the idea is to give Young as many reps as possible.

The argument for waiting until the end of the season to fire Castillo and/or Reid no longer exists.

I still wanna beat WAS and DAL again. Every other game, might as well lose it for the sake of the pick. I wanna kick myself for saying that, but it is what it is. 6-10 would net us a nice pick.

  139. 139 Eddie Savkovic said at 7:20 PM on November 27th, 2011:

For years we watched in dismay (at least until we knew how it would end) as the Redskins stocked up on “premium” free agents and then laughed during the season as it failed to come together for them. I’m hoping that it only happens to the Eagles this season and that they get it together in the off season, but man this is tough.

  140. 140 Joe Malone said at 7:20 PM on November 27th, 2011:

  141. 141 Anonymous said at 7:26 PM on November 27th, 2011:

Had they paid Desean instead of guys like Smith and Brown he catches those balls. Not defending Desean but the FO clearly created this situation which has blown up in their face. At this point it may be irreconcilable. But make no mistake, the Eagles are a worse football team without Desean, and they obviously have too many holes to be able to afford another one.

How did Curtis Marsh perform in today’s game…since we drafted him and as I read preseason practice notes, I’ve always liked him. He seems like a big physical and fast corner than can press and/or run with the fast receivers. I recall a play in the RZ where he was on the outside and had a good jump on a throw by Brady and was part of an incompletion. Overall how has he done?

  145. 145 Anonymous said at 7:30 PM on November 27th, 2011:

  147. 147 Thorin McGee said at 7:40 PM on November 27th, 2011:

  149. 149 Anonymous said at 7:37 PM on November 27th, 2011:

Have to think the game was over when Reid called a pass on 4th and 1 in the redzone. Bad play call, should have run it no doubt. After that the Eagles didn’t really get any great chances. Also terrible defense this week, I know it’s Tom Brady but there should have been a better outing than this.

  150. 150 Anonymous said at 7:46 PM on November 27th, 2011:

We were down for most of the game, but to me, 10 rushes for McCoy is inexcusable. McCoy is our best player, and both Maclin and Vick are out. AR falls into that hole way to often for me to listen to excuses for it. The defense was horrendous and ultimately, they lost the game for us (even if our offense was playing well, you don’t win games that you allow 38 points), but AR is where it all starts.

  151. 151 Anonymous said at 7:38 PM on November 27th, 2011:

Also I still don’t think Reid is gone after the year, it’s easy to say now but at the end of the day Lurie has too much respect built up for Reid.

  152. 152 Anonymous said at 10:04 PM on November 27th, 2011:

Why shouldn’t Banner’s “insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results” apply to Reid?

Because in the past 5 full season he’s built up a winning record by beating losers . . . made a boatload of money for Lauie”

The only way to for Laurie’s hand is if the fans *REFUSE* to buy season tickets. And all the people on the waiting withdraw their names.

Like the folks in Congress (IMO) — Laurie and Banner are not only out of out of touch with the fans, they don’t give a damn what the fans think.

  153. 153 Anonymous said at 10:14 PM on November 27th, 2011:

I thought this was a defense built to sustain leads? We were up 10-0 and ….??? There was outstanding pressure created by our Dline in the first quarter and then they just got malued throughout the rest of the game.

Honestly, I’ve never been so fed up with an Eagles team as this one. Jump to an early lead and it’s pass, pass, pass. Get inside the opposing team’s 5 yard line and it’s pass, pass, pass out of the shotgun for a Field Goal! I mean, does Andy even care anymore??? You have the leading rusher in the NFL and you opt not to let him touch the ball once when your team gets a fresh set of downs at the 5 yard line. I just don’t get Andy/Marty at all. And I’m usually very easy on Andy.

I don’t even know where to go with this post. I feel like I’ve exhausted myself enough discussing the multitude of things wrong with this football ‘team.’
