Gang Green Needs To Reign Supreme – Twice

Christmas Eve.  Jets-Giants.  Eagles at Dallas.  Could be a very fun day.

I’m actually feeling pretty good.  How about you?  I’ve written a few times this week that the NFL is all about matchups.  If you break down the 2 games, the matchups favor the guys in green.

We have the CBs to cover Dallas big, fast WRs.  We have the DL to rush Romo.  I think it is pretty clear that Vick/Shady/the receivers match up well with Dallas.  I’m sure Rob Ryan will have some new plan of attack, but we put up a bunch of points vs Dallas in Vick’s last 2 games against them.  Different coaches and some new players.  Bottom line is that they struggle with the weapons we’ve got.

Now that does assume the O-line shows up and is solid.  It also assumes Vick doesn’t turn the ball over carelessly.  We’ll find out if those are good assumptions or if I’m an ass (based on the old joke about what happens when you assume).

If Rob Ryan wants to get crazy, he can load the box and blitz really aggressively, daring Vick to go deep to DJax and Mac.  That actually might not be a bad strategy for him.

I hope Brent Celek is a big part of the gameplan once again.  He was good vs Dallas in the first game and Brent was great last week.  The offense just seems so much better when he’s involved.

Casey Matthews had a sack 2 weeks ago.  Last week he had a key TFL and helped with the FF/FR TD.  Now he owes us an INT.  Do it Casey, or I’m taking back the bottle of Head and Shoulders that I got for you.

The D-line needs to come up big.  Sacks are great, but just pressure Romo and keep him uncomfortable.  I’ve got my fingers crossed for Babin to come up with a sack or two.

DRC has his chance to show Eagles fans why he was so highly regarded back in the summer.  He will start at LCB.  DRC has played well in the last 2 games.  I expect him to play well.

Plus, Derek Landri.  No one matches up well with him.

As for STs…just don’t make any mistakes.  Someone tell Curtis Marsh that there are other ways to get your name called out by the announcers.

As for Jets/Giants…I like the Jets.  Nicks goes to Revis Island.  That leaves Antonio Cromartie on Vic Cruz.  Cro will be angry since he’s not  getting to spend Christmas Eve with his 37 kids.  He’ll take that out on Cruz and shut him down.  No Jake Ballard for the Gmen.  Is it Travis Beckum time?

Can the Giants run on them?  Maybe.  Not like us, though.  Shady gotz speed.  Jacobs and Bradshaw don’t gotz speed.  I think Harris and Bart Scott can’t wait to go hit the Giants RBs.  Can’t wait, I said.

The Giants D has sucked royally all year.  Check out my stat of the day:

Games allowing opponents under 350 yards:  4

Games allowing opponents 424 or more yards:   5

Ouch.  I mean…OUCH!

Compare that to our guys.

Under 350:  10

Over 424:  2

JPP needs to have 37 tackles, 5 TFLs, 5 sacks, 3 FFs, and an INT for the Giants to win this.  He’ll probably come close, but I just think the Jets will prevail.  I do like Eli better than Sanchez, but I think the Jets will run on the Giants easier than the Giants will pass on the Jets.  After all, last week I saw Evan Royster running on the Giants.  Yes, the same Evan Royster who was 11-38 vs Kent State as a Senior (I’m allowed to pick on him since I’m a PSU fan).

Go Jets!

Go Eagles!!!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.

Oh yeah…and Dallas sucks!

If asomugha and Rodgers – cromartie are on the outside and Jose likely on Laurent in the slot I think I’d rather Marsh on witten. He has the size and speed and would probably do a better job than Matthews in coverage.

I’d take Laurent all day on that match up, and I mean all day.

Bold prediction time: DRC (or DoRoCro, as I like to call him) will have a pick-six! And hopefully not because he’s involved in one of Marty’s trick plays offense.

Tommy, I wholeheartedly agree with your last four statements. Especially the very last one. All I want for Christmas is Sad Jerry. Oh, and Sad Eli would be nice too.

Is that a touch of foghorn leghorn I hear?

Dallas sucks. It’s going to be a Merry Christmas for Eagles’ fans. Reminds me of Christmas 2006.

    Merry Christmas Tommy!

So pumped about today, it just seems like the stars are aligning right now.

  8. 8 James Coe said at 12:54 PM on December 24th, 2011:

The stars will align as the Cowboys chase D-Jax single-file into the end zone after a 90 yard punt return…Giants style.

Saw that pic the other day. Awesome! And I think a hot chick made it. Fantasy material.

  10. 10 Anonymous said at 12:35 PM on December 24th, 2011:

Wow, Mike Ditka just said that if he lined up across Jason Babin that he would simple “just push his head down.” These guys are supposed to be smart, right?

  11. 11 Anonymous said at 1:25 PM on December 24th, 2011:

That would make sense….if our wide9 DEs weren’t positioned the far outside shoulder of the OT.

  12. 12 Anonymous said at 1:31 PM on December 24th, 2011:

Smooth moves by Keller there. Hit square in the noggin on third down because he forgot the bit where you look at your QB at put your hands on the small brown thing he gives to you.

  13. 13 Steve H said at 2:13 PM on December 24th, 2011:

effing mark sanchez, its a shame dating a victorias secret model doesn’t make you a better quarterback.

  14. 14 Steve H said at 2:18 PM on December 24th, 2011:

Aaaaaaaaaaand the Jets need a pass rush.

  15. 15 Anonymous said at 2:19 PM on December 24th, 2011:

    I hate victor Cruz

  16. 16 Steve H said at 2:25 PM on December 24th, 2011:

And the Jets are screwing this up. Fantastic.

  17. 17 Alex Karklins said at 2:36 PM on December 24th, 2011:

Come on Jets, no need to toy with the Giants by giving them hope. Just beat them straight up, please.

  18. 18 Anonymous said at 2:40 PM on December 24th, 2011:

Te Jets really suck. Mark Sanchez is not better than Donovan McNabb. Hell, I bet Brad Johnson could still suit up and outplay him.

  19. 19 ChowderFACE said at 2:44 PM on December 24th, 2011:

its not sanchez fault so far… Its cromartie with a brutal play to allow a 99 yard TD and then a kicker who misses an easy FG… Its frustrating but if the birds took care of business and didnt blow 4 4th quarter leads this division would have been locked up

  20. 20 Anonymous said at 2:56 PM on December 24th, 2011:

I’m trying my hardest to not play the “could’ve been” game. It’s very, very, very difficult.

  21. 21 Steve H said at 2:46 PM on December 24th, 2011:

Some quarterbacks play consistently well with spots of uncharacteristically poor play, some quarterbacks play consistently poorly with spots of uncharacteristically good play. Mark Sanchez belongs in the latter category.

  22. 22 Steve H said at 3:15 PM on December 24th, 2011:

The Jets are running all over the Giants and Sanchez still can’t do anything with it. If I was the Jets I’m not sure I’d call more than a handful of passes the whole rest of the way.

  23. 23 Cliff Hall said at 3:18 PM on December 24th, 2011:

Merry Christmas, Tommy and Eagles Nation!

As I type, it looks like the Jets are playing the role of the Grinch this Christmas. Oh well, let’s go out fighting and whoop the Cowboys’ asses.

  24. 24 Steve H said at 3:21 PM on December 24th, 2011:

lol, Giants call out Revis this week and now he’s having a monster game. Maybe the Jets D can get a pick 6 since their offense is allergic to scoring. I can’t believe the fate of our season rests on these guys shoulders.

  25. 25 Anonymous said at 3:26 PM on December 24th, 2011:

    Please don’t lose Jets. Please.

  26. 26 Anonymous said at 3:28 PM on December 24th, 2011:

How depressing is it that our season could essentially be ruined by Victor Cruz? I really, really dislike this guy.

  27. 27 Anonymous said at 3:30 PM on December 24th, 2011:

Well because mark Sanchez is the worst QB in the world. So long playoffs.

  28. 28 Anonymous said at 3:37 PM on December 24th, 2011:

He’s gonna feel terrible about it while him and his Victoria’s Secret model girlfriend sleep in a bed made of $100,000 bills tonight, so we got that going for us, which is nice.

  29. 29 Cliff Hall said at 3:41 PM on December 24th, 2011:

I find it highly unlikely that a Victoria’s Secret model would downgrade to MARK SANCHEZ. Maybe a Lane Bryant model or something like that, but I’ll be damned if Adriana Lima is messing around with the likes of Sanchez.

  30. 30 Cliff Hall said at 3:43 PM on December 24th, 2011:

Oh, forgot my girl Adriana is married to that scrub basketball player from Yugoslavia.

  31. 31 Steve H said at 3:46 PM on December 24th, 2011:

It’s remarkable right? Clearly the only thing that matters is whether or not you’re actually on a professional roster, it doesn’t matter if you suck balls at the professional level.

  32. 32 Anonymous said at 3:52 PM on December 24th, 2011:

I think if unbelievably beautiful women started using a more sophisticated filter, it would improve the level of play across the board. How a woman could date a man with more INTs than TDs is shocking to me.

  33. 33 Steve H said at 3:35 PM on December 24th, 2011:

    This is pitiful.

  34. 34 Anonymous said at 3:37 PM on December 24th, 2011:

    Season over. Cheers Mark.

  35. 35 Cliff Hall said at 3:38 PM on December 24th, 2011:

It’s amazing how the opinions (or more accurately, PERCEPTIONS) of players change so dramatically in the NFL. Only a couple seasons ago Sanchez was “the Franchise,” now he looks terrible and the Jets can’t throw the ball further than 15 yards down field. Eli Manning was being questioned as recently as last season, now he’s “ELIte.”

  36. 36 Anonymous said at 3:45 PM on December 24th, 2011:

That’s the problem with most perceptions of NFL players. Mark Sanchez is, and always has been, an awful NFL QB. Call me crazy, but I generally am a fan of QBs who complete passes and don’t throw INTs. But, because the Jets defense and running game used to be good, people thought Sanchez was good “cause he wins games.”

  37. 37 Cliff Hall said at 3:46 PM on December 24th, 2011:

Sounds like another well-hyped QB playing today…

  38. 38 Anonymous said at 3:54 PM on December 24th, 2011:

I intentionally tried to avoid that comparison, but that’s the mental image I had in my mind.

Having flipped to CBS to avoid getting more upset, it’s kind of funny watching him throw so many INTs.

  39. 39 Kammich said at 3:41 PM on December 24th, 2011:

Fucking Jets. I was really hoping that, at the very least, our fate would rest in our hands today. I’d have been fine being officially eliminated if it was our own damn fault for not being able to beat the Cowboys.

But looking down the barrel of the gun because Sanchez lays another fucking egg? Just pisses me the hell off. Ugh.

Hopefully they mount a remarkable comeback.

Either way, have a safe and happy Holiday, fellas.

  40. 40 Cliff Hall said at 3:45 PM on December 24th, 2011:

It’s only 2 scores. They can do this!

    I HOPE.

  41. 41 James Coe said at 3:49 PM on December 24th, 2011:

They need only need 2 TDs and have like 12 minutes to get it, yet they’ve completely abandoned the run. Is this Big Red in a Rex Ryan suit?

  42. 42 Steve H said at 3:49 PM on December 24th, 2011:

lol, terrible playcall, terrible pass, we get a gift PI call.

  43. 43 Steve H said at 3:53 PM on December 24th, 2011:

God, how much incompetence can Sanchez pack into one game. This is Vince youngesque. This absolutely kills me that our fate is tied to this guy.

  44. 44 James Coe said at 3:59 PM on December 24th, 2011:

I’ve only been watching football for like 3 years, so I don’t have a huge frame of reference, but this has to be the worst QB play I’ve ever seen…

  45. 45 Steve H said at 4:06 PM on December 24th, 2011:

It gets worse than this, but not often, and typically by people who are already known to be bad quarterbacks.

  46. 46 Anonymous said at 4:11 PM on December 24th, 2011:

    Bobby Hoying?

  47. 47 Steve H said at 4:00 PM on December 24th, 2011:

This is just grotesque. Even Dick Chaney would consider watching this game to be a form of torture for Eagles fans.

  48. 48 Alex Karklins said at 4:11 PM on December 24th, 2011:

And it’s not over yet! This is nuts.

  49. 49 Anonymous said at 4:02 PM on December 24th, 2011:

Man how are the Eagles players gonna work up any motivation for this game?

  50. 50 Steve H said at 4:10 PM on December 24th, 2011:

Oh thank god, we have life. Please please please Jets, I know you’ve been terrible all game and I’ve been very hard on you, but all I want for christmas is a win.

  51. 51 Anonymous said at 4:13 PM on December 24th, 2011:

So do we watch the start of the Boys game or continue watchin Jets-Giants? Conundrum
