PHI at MIA – 1st Half

Posted: December 11th, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 150 Comments »

The run to the Super Bowl starts today.  Or maybe to a Top 5 pick.

INACTIVES

WR Steve Smith
OG Julian Vandervelde
OT Winston Justice

DE Juqua Parker
DE Brandon Graham
LB Greg Lloyd
DB Brandon Hughes

This means we get to see DRC again. Tom Nelson is new to the team, but instantly becomes a critical STer for us.

It is good that Maclin is playing. Hopefully his hamstring holds up.

Phillip Hunt is the #4 DE. Interesting. I’m glad to see him playing. I think we need to find out what we’ve got in him. The Dolphins aren’t a team that throws a lot so we’ll be judging his run defense as much as anything.

Win or lose, I at least want a game that’s fun to watch.

If they lose, I want the Dolphins to have to earn the win. Just don’t embarrass yourselves Philadelphia!

I’m really hoping that Nnamdi’s inadequacies this year are a fluke. New team, being put in a bad position/asked to do too much, whatever… I refuse to believe that he’s THIS pedestrian after watching him in Oakland the last 6 or 7 years.

    sigh.

  43. 43 Eric Weaver said at 1:55 PM on December 11th, 2011:

RG3 isn’t 6’2 from what I’ve read either. I’m sure he’ll be an inch or more shorter if he comes out and is at the combine.

Tommy, Peters is just getting beat.

  45. 45 Zachary Kaplan said at 1:24 PM on December 11th, 2011:

I’m sorry this team need a lot more than new LB’s or new Safeties. We are lacking talent, no matter what the names say on the back of the jersey’s.

We have a QB who’s best assets our his legs – probably not a good thing for a position that’s supposed to throw the ball. He also holds onto the ball forever.

We have a midget baby WR who’s leaving during free agency. And a medicore player across from him. We have a servicable TE. We have a medicore OL, despite having a stud LT. We have a aging DL, that gets inconsistent pressure and can’t play the run. We have no good LB’s. We have no good safeties and we have old over rated CB on one side and a old CB on the otherside who can’t/won’t tackle.

Blow this group of losers up. Don’t try and sell em off as underachievers.

  46. 46 Zachary Kaplan said at 1:26 PM on December 11th, 2011:

I don’t know why I’m wasting my time watching this hoping to see some decent football played by my team. They are incapable of it. Count me as a fan of starting over.

  47. 47 Kristopher Cebula said at 1:30 PM on December 11th, 2011:

tommy, if we are picking in or around the top 5 and have a shot at luck or RG3, do you go qb or do we look for a stud defensive player?

  48. 48 Zachary Kaplan said at 1:30 PM on December 11th, 2011:

Lets play who allows the 1st down?
    Nnamdi?

  50. 50 Anonymous said at 1:32 PM on December 11th, 2011:

  61. 61 Nicholas Hill said at 2:42 PM on December 11th, 2011:

Can we all admit that whining about not having a good team WHILE ARE PLAYING only serves to sap any possible enjoyment out of being a fan? We all know this team is not a good team, but, I think game day should be for watching the game (which, we all know is 60 minutes long, based on the all the losses in the 4th quarter this year).

Less than halfway through the first quarter, down 7-0, is not the time to abandon all hope that the team can pull out a W. Go Eagles!!!!

  68. 68 Thorin McGee said at 1:45 PM on December 11th, 2011:

Yeah, that was certainly running into the kick. Don’t know why it wasn’t called, unless that was the held guy and it forced him into the kicker.

  71. 71 Zachary Kaplan said at 1:41 PM on December 11th, 2011:

I’m sorry this just isn’t a good football team. Forget past success of the players on this squad. They arne’t good anymore.

Vick had a magical 10 game or so run last year, now he looks tentative, DJack is gone. Maclin is medicore. Celek is medicore. The OL is bad. The DL is medicore to bad. The LB’s are awful. The CB’s are vastly over-rated. The Safeties are jokes. The special teams are terrible.

  79. 79 Septhinox said at 1:49 PM on December 11th, 2011:

In Rd 3 of the 2010 draft . . . Eagles take T’eo Nashim. Pats take the Gronk.

In Rd 4, the Eagles fill their back-up TE need w/ Harbor . . . who, compared to Gronk (and Celek and Whitten and Pettigrew and . . . ) is shorter and smaller.

Gronk, however, unlike T’eo was not a team captain in college (I think).

  103. 103 Kammich said at 2:02 PM on December 11th, 2011:

In the Eagles defense, Gronkowski was picked in the middle of the 2nd round.

  104. 104 Nicholas Hill said at 2:49 PM on December 11th, 2011:

Also in the Eagles’ defense, Safety was (and may still be) a GAPING hole going into that draft. TE was a position the team was drafting for depth.

It’s always bad when a team has draft to fill a need, rather than build the roster by drafting the best player available, but, I don’t remember a single person screaming for the Birds to draft Gronkowski, or ANY offensive player with that pick.

  105. 105 Eric Weaver said at 2:07 PM on December 11th, 2011:

  121. 121 Corry Henry said at 2:17 PM on December 11th, 2011:

HOLY SHIT A CASEY MATTHEWS SIGHTING! AND EVEN MORE EXCITING WAS THAT HE WASN’T MESSING UP!

  122. 122 Eric Weaver said at 2:20 PM on December 11th, 2011:

I just think the fact that you have a crappy defensive coach coupled with a rookie LB really playing out of position is what caused him to look so bad. Plus we all bought into the usual hype that the Eagles come up with for unproven players.

  123. 123 Corry Henry said at 2:29 PM on December 11th, 2011:

Yeah, it was a tough situation for such a young player. It looks like sarcasm, but I am really happy for the guy.

  124. 124 Kammich said at 2:18 PM on December 11th, 2011:

    CASEY MEATLOAFS!

  125. 125 Eric Weaver said at 2:18 PM on December 11th, 2011:

WTF? You’re up 17-7 against a 4-8 team (granted you’re 4-8 too) and you throw a lateral across the field on a punt return?

  126. 126 Thorin McGee said at 2:20 PM on December 11th, 2011:

Bad call, but weaker fumble. At least the d redeemed it.

  127. 127 Corry Henry said at 2:19 PM on December 11th, 2011:

Now THAT was a stupid play call.

Edit: the Marsh lateral/fumble call was dumb.

  128. 128 Kammich said at 2:19 PM on December 11th, 2011:

Curtis Marsh has shitty ball security for a converted RB.

  129. 129 Corry Henry said at 2:22 PM on December 11th, 2011:

    Explains why he’s converted though…

  130. 130 Anonymous said at 2:20 PM on December 11th, 2011:

Why? Just why? Up by 10 and you have DeSean throw a pass all the way across the field to a rookie who has literally done nothing this season?

  131. 131 Anonymous said at 2:20 PM on December 11th, 2011:

Apparently Miami refuses to take this game from us.

Landri felt Patterson deserved to have a FR because he already had one

  133. 133 Anonymous said at 2:21 PM on December 11th, 2011:

If the Eagles could only play all 16 games on the road against bad QBs!!!

  134. 134 Anonymous said at 2:23 PM on December 11th, 2011:

We lost last week to a bad QB… not sure that would really make a difference.

  135. 135 Thorin McGee said at 2:26 PM on December 11th, 2011:

    And the Cards game.

  136. 136 Anonymous said at 2:22 PM on December 11th, 2011:

    Casey Matthews . . . DOMINANT!!!

  137. 137 Kristopher Cebula said at 2:23 PM on December 11th, 2011:

you know, i don’t care if jason babin sucks against the run. that was his 13th sack. desean jackson also coming to play today

  138. 138 Anonymous said at 2:24 PM on December 11th, 2011:

For some reason, this team appears to be hungry today.

It’s a shame it it’s too late. Encouraging sign, though.

  139. 139 Corry Henry said at 2:35 PM on December 11th, 2011:

That’s the most maddening thing about this team. The games they’ve won outside of the St. Louis game (Cowboys, NYG, ‘Skins), they’ve looked dominant.

  140. 140 Anonymous said at 2:26 PM on December 11th, 2011:

    1. RGIII . . . we hardly knew ya.

    2. Juan Castillo . . . about to go on a 4-game tear imitating Bud Carson

  141. 141 Anonymous said at 2:30 PM on December 11th, 2011:

I came in secretly cheering for the draft pick, but winning is too much fun. Let the skins get him 🙁

  142. 142 Thorin McGee said at 2:30 PM on December 11th, 2011:

Wasn’t that the 91 D that lead the league in everything? You know, the greatest D in NFL history.

  143. 143 Thorin McGee said at 2:35 PM on December 11th, 2011:

Our idiot announcers can count the marks on the field!

  144. 144 Anonymous said at 2:36 PM on December 11th, 2011:

It’s not even close. He was a good half yard shy.

  145. 145 Thorin McGee said at 2:39 PM on December 11th, 2011:

That spot he was circling was at the second hash mark, he had to get to the third.

Shame the O didn’t do anything with it. Mac was open, too.

  146. 146 Anonymous said at 2:36 PM on December 11th, 2011:

The old “Logo” argument for where the ball should be.

3 years ago, D-Mac landed past the 1st down marker on a 4th and short for a 1st down against the Viking (?).

    The refs didn’t overturn it.

The “Logo” argument is not persuasive.

  147. 147 Kristopher Cebula said at 2:40 PM on December 11th, 2011:

that would have been a perfect time for a fake punt

  148. 148 Kammich said at 2:42 PM on December 11th, 2011:

So, after atrocious losses against bad teams like Seattle and Arizona, where we just laid down and died… I finally abandon any hope, and embrace the prospects of the draft.

And NOW the Eagles decide to deliver their best 1st half performance of the year, where just about everything is going right. And I’ve suddenly got this creeping feeling in the pit of my stomach… what the hell is that?

Oh, its optimism. GET OUT OF ME, OPTIMISM.

  149. 149 Eric Weaver said at 2:55 PM on December 11th, 2011:

I think they played much better against Dallas.

  150. 150 Anonymous said at 2:43 PM on December 11th, 2011:

Who is the team in green that we are watching? I thought the eagles were playing the phons today
