Eagles Cut Jacory Harris

The horror, the horror!!!  The Eagles today released UDFA QB Jacory Harris.  That opens up a roster spot and can mean only one thing.  The Eagles are about to:

* Sign Donovan McNabb

* Trade for Tim Tebow

* Sign Jeff Garcia

or…

The team will sign some other UDFA who has a cooler name than Jacory.  That could be tough to do.

They did work out LB Adrian Moten, a player they had some interest in back in the 2011 draft. No idea if he’s a serious target.

I also wonder if they could go for a CB since Cliff Harris can’t participate in the OTAs because Oregon is on the quarters system and his class hasn’t graduated yet.  We have 9 CBs and 13 WRs on the roster.  Adding a CB would make sense for getting through the long practice sessions.

or 5 QBs is to many?

or Vick will get more reps then a starter normally gets because this is his first full offseason as the starter with this team

5 QBs was overkill unless you think the 5th guy is someone you might really want to keep and develop. With Kafka and Foles, the Eagles already have young arms.

You say that now, but in 15 years when Jacory is going into the HOF, I wonder what you’ll say then.

Granted, it will the the Miami-Dade Metro HS Football HOF, but still…

So do we know what type of chance that Cliff Harris has of making the team? I understand he was good his junior year then got kicked out of school but he is going against guys like trevard lindley and brandon hughes.

The Eagles are very interested in Harris. Love his raw talent. He must play well this summer and show that he’s got NFL speed. Missing time doesn’t kill him since he’s a CB and that’s a position where timing/chemistry isn’t crucial like WR or OL.

I don’t know why but for some reason I think Brandon Hughes is going to be a decent player.

Bubby Brister is available, we could be making a play for him.

Yes. This is the kind of forward thinking the Eagles need. Bubby has great experience.

Im bored. Since this thread/post is talking about backup or players that got cut im going to post a practice squad that i am thinking. I am thinking Brackett makes the 3rd TE and eagles keep 5 WR. I see it as one or the other.
    RB Polk
    DT Thornton
    WR/PR/KR Demaris Johnson
    CB Harris
    TE Ford
    FB/TE Emil Igwenagu
    SAM Simmons
    T Jones
    S Phillip Thomas

    I’ll play.

    I think you’re fairly close to dead-on.

Polk or Havili are the only RBs that I think would last on the PS. Brown would get poached.

Harris, Thomas, Demaris and Emil are probably young-talent-but-not-quite-ready locks.

They always stash an OL or two. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Kelly on there. Big, raw, not invited to combine so not on many other teams’ wish list.

Didn’t realize Simmons was so young AND a Pa. native. I wouldn’t count out a second go-round for Lloyd.

With the surplus of DTs, if they’re all healthy, they might try to stash Thornton for another season. (just now noticed that’s on your list)

If Cooper plays well and McNutt makes the roster, does that make Boykin and DeSean primary PR guys and Boykin Lewis/Maclin the KOR team? Can someone else not on PS do it? Gilyard would do it if he makes the roster.

Is Lindley PS-eligible? Let me look … Played in 11 games. I don’t think that’s good.

    So I’ll go:
    RB Polk
    DT Thornton
    T Kelly
    WR/PR/KR Johnson
    CB Harris
    FB/TE Emil Igwenagu
    LB Lloyd
    S Thomas

    Why not?

Isn’t it sort of silly the NFL schedules OTAs so early anyway? Even for schools on the traditional semester system just graduated 1 weekend ago (and some this past weekend).

I mean, not many of these guys took their academics seriously anyway, but if there’s a rule saying you can’t participate until after graduation, why not just schedule a couple weeks later to cover everyone?

  13. 13 GeorgeFleep said at 8:45 PM on May 21st, 2012:

how much schools do trimesters instead of semesters anyway? CB Harris will just come to OTAs whenever he is done.

This free’s up another QB for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to sign

  15. 15 the guy said at 8:53 PM on May 21st, 2012:

This is probably a Sam question, but what’s the deal with the salary cap next year?

I seem to remember someone saying that with just 46 players the Eagles had something like $137mil against the cap. Which seemed high. Might there be a problem next year or did I just misunderstand?

  16. 16 TheRogerPodacter said at 11:25 PM on May 21st, 2012:

i would imagine that a very large chunk of that was asante’s money that is no more.
edit: just checked eaglescap. thats the number he has without asante. yikes.
also, yikes to how much vick is getting paid the next few years…. wonder if any of that is guaranteed or if he is likely to be released without getting any of that…

Only in Eagles Nation could you get 16 comments on the release of a UDFA guy nobody has ever heard of. For that matter, only on Iggles Blitz would you even read about it!
