Hating The ‘Boys

Posted: July 8th, 2012 | Author: | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 37 Comments »

For this past week’s PE.com column I wrote about my hatred for the Dallas Cowboys.  Any objections?

Aside from division rivals, there are only 2 teams I hate:  the Dolphins and the Steelers.  There isn’t one specific reason.  Never liked Don Shula.  Hated Dan Marino.  Flipper as a mascot isn’t cool.  Fairweather fans.  Jimmy Johnson.  With the Steelers it had a lot to do with the obnoxious kids I grew up with who cheered for them.  And I also think the 3-4 defense is a trick from Satan to weaken modern society and make us slaves to his young pupil Justin Bieber.

Any non-NFC East teams that you guys hate?

I’ve gotten a few questions about Baylor WR Josh Gordon, who is the top candidate for this week’s Supplemental Draft.  I need to watch some tape on him to see if the Eagles would have any interest.  At first glance, I’d say no, but more study needs to be done.

He is reportedly 6-4, 225.

He didn’t play in 2011, but posted good numbers in 2010:  42-714-7.

Sorry for the late post.  Jimmy Bama and I had a long production meeting today.  We will announce the name soon.  Today’s big discussion centered on Duncan Hines vs Betty Crocker as the official brownie mix of the show.  Jimmy sure does love Betty Crocker.

I’ll keep you guys updated on the project as we move forward.  Can’t wait to get this thing going.

Should we hate the Pats more for losing to the Giants twice or beating us once…in SBs?

  3. 3 Jonzee72 said at 6:37 AM on July 9th, 2012:

I really hate them for the SB, but losing to the Giants twice doesn’t help.

The Patriots… I hate them more than the Giants and Redskins currently

Bears. Some recent frustrating losses to them. And such a pain having to play them on that crappy field of theirs.

As for teams I hate the least (outside of the Eagles obviously): Ravens. Relatively close, love Ed Reed + Ray Lewis. I also don’t hate the Steelers as much Eagles fans might. I have family in western PA so I don’t hate them, but it’s not like I’m a fan either. Can’t take their bandwagon fans though.

I have supreme hate for the Crimeboys and the Redskins but next it has to be the Bears.

    I Hate the Bears.

I also hate Shanahan and Gruden no matter what teams they coach. I really hate Shanahan… he is a cheater.

For me, the Ravens and Jets epitomize what is wrong with professional sports. Thug, loudmouth, selfish always seem to be the theme of the current story for one of the teams. I don’t like that the Ravens dismissed tradition with their uniforms. I don’t like that the Jets claim to be from NY.

  11. 11 TommyLawlor said at 2:25 AM on July 9th, 2012:

I can’t hate the Ravens because I like Ozzie Newsome so much and his assistant Eric DeCosta once talked to me on the phone for 15 mins about scouting jobs. Couldn’t get the Eagles to even send me a rejection letter.

  12. 12 livingonapear said at 12:32 AM on July 9th, 2012:

I feel too sorry for the Jets to really hate them. If they started playing well and the NY media (I live in Brooklyn) started building them up again, I’d be happy to slide right back into the role. Except for the Mad Photo Bomber Nick Mangold. He’s awesome.

The Bears would be the closest thing just because I enjoy watching Green Bay and Detriot, so I’m usually on the other side of them when they’re on. I do enjoy watching them when they play so I can’t really say that I strongly dislike the

In the past I’ve hated the Bucs, and the Broncos, but that was usually a particular incarnation of the team (hated the Sapp years in Tampa, and I hated that Jake Plummer always seemed to have our number.

I hated the Colts for years. That had to do with them trading us Ron Solt. I have finally gotten over that.

  16. 16 Jack Waggoner said at 1:54 AM on July 9th, 2012:

It seems like the Bucs would be a logical team to hate; especially last game of the Vet and first game of the Linc.

  17. 17 TommyLawlor said at 2:23 AM on July 9th, 2012:

The Bucs have been so mediocre since 2002 that it is hard to still hate them. I’d like to hit Simeon Rice with a sock full of manure.

    True.

  19. 19 Jyolteon said at 2:35 AM on July 9th, 2012:

I can’t stand the Rex Ryan Jets. I didn’t like the Broncos last year, but that was mostly because of Tebow…of course he ends up with the Jets this year. I didn’t like the Colts much when Peyton was there…of course he ends up with the Broncos this year.

    Funny how life works.

I hate the Pats… Strangely I’d was pleased to see the Gmen win againt thme in the SB. Mostly because I have some friends who supports the Giants and I was happy for them…
    I hate the Saints also…
I always liked the Steelers. They are the second team (far away of the eagles of course) that I’m happy to see win. They have exactly the “mind” that I like for a football team : A continuity with their coaches (Noll, Cowher and Tomin) and their defense tradition…Among the years they have players that i liked very much (Lambert, Greene, The Bus, Polamalu…)

  21. 21 P_P_K said at 2:38 PM on July 9th, 2012:

I was also happy to see them beat the Pats. At that point, it was like an NFC brotherhood thing.

I have a strong dislike of the Cowpokes, disturbed by the Washington football team nickname and confused by the Giants having won 2 Super Bowls in the Elisha era.
My suggestion for the name of the podcast is “Pickle Juice w/ Bama & Tommy”.

You don’t hate the Cowboys enough. 🙂

  24. 24 Jimmy_Beast said at 7:36 AM on July 9th, 2012:

Bears, although they may as well just be a division rival since we play them every year anyway. Plus, their field isn’t fit for a high school team. Glad we don’t get them this year.

And yeah, I have a Betty Crocker poster on the ceiling above my bed. I had to give up A LOT in compromises to the wife for that… equivalent to the RG3 trade.

  25. 25 D3Keith said at 6:21 PM on July 9th, 2012:

I was going to reference your semi-rational hate of the Bears here.

For a while I felt like we played the Packers and Rams every year, but they were hard to hate. The Bears are like the Giants, I begrudingly respect them but I never ever like them.

The Cowboys and Redskins are just clowns and circus acts. Easy to hate.

  26. 26 jrob919 said at 8:31 AM on July 9th, 2012:

Ravens. As a transplanted Delawarean, living in Baltimore is sometimes unbearable. Fans down here lack the ability to be objectionable (let alone, critical) when discussing their team. Most go through life wearing purple-colored glasses. And that’s sad because as any true eagle fan will tell you, if you ain’t booing, you ain’t caring. Even though they went without a team for 15 years or so, the younger generation fans are spoiled since their city’s franchise won it all only a few years after returning to the league. And now they think they are entitled to the playoffs every year. You might think I should somehow “root” for them as a U of D grad (Flacco) and the fact that our old special teams coordinator is their HC. But quite the contrary. There is no team I despise more (and that includes DAL, NYG, and WAS!) with their male cheerleaders, fans wearing purple camo pants, tired Ray Lewis pre-game show, homer radio announcers (I know, we have Merril), awful marching band that takes up about 200 good seats, Ball So Hard University…the list goes on and on. This is why Week 2 is the game I’m looking forward to the most this season. Especially after what happened down here in 2008. I think the schedule sets up well for an eagles W this time.

Good call. The Ravens fans I’ve met tend to fit your description to a tee.

  28. 28 teltschikfakeout88 said at 12:14 PM on July 9th, 2012:

Fans wearing purple camo pants….LOL!!! I went to a Ravens game years ago to watch them play the Saints. This was not my first NFL game by a longshot, but everywhere I looked, the fans were all decked out in gear from head to toe with those damn purple camo pants…even the women…..I felt like I was in another world. I can appreciate sporting your teams gear and fully expect that at a game but they took it to another level. Then I started to watch the Wire and it just made sense…..because TV shows are so real and all….LOL

The Bucs. They were such an unlikeable team and are responsible for some of my most heart-breaking loses (2002 NFCCG, 2003 Season Opener, 2006 62 yard field goal). They won the SB the year it should have been ours.

Outside of the NFC East, I really don’t have a burning hatred for other teams. Although I hated Troy and Emmit for being Cowboys, I respected their talent. Michael Irvin was garbage. By far, my least favorite player of all time. It kills me to see that dude in the Hall of Fame for pushing off on every single play (not to mention the coke, whores, and attempted murder stuff).

I’ve lived in Colorado for 12 years, but have been unable to muster anything more than indifference toward the Broncos. Tebowmania got on my nerves, but that’s about it. Broncos fans just don’t have the same level of knowledge or commitment as Eagles fans, and I’ve always been disappointed in the conversations I’ve had with them. When I first moved here, all the fans were talking about how optimistic they felt about Bubby Brister (!) taking the reins from Elway after his retirement. Never felt the need to look at his ENTIRE CAREER up to that point to temper their enthusiasm. Morons. Not worth my time.

  32. 32 P_P_K said at 9:58 AM on July 9th, 2012:

My 9 year-old son and I live in New England, surrounded by Pats fans. We put up with a lot of crap from them and, of course, we dislike Brady and Belichik. But, when it comes to hatred, the Cowgirls, Cowpukes, Cowpatties, call ’em what you will, we hate ’em. Why? Because they are the evil enemy. It is in our blood as Eagles fans.

My son watched his first game with me and my buddies on 12/29/08, where we beat Dallas 44-6. Could there be a better entrance into the brotherhood of Eagles Nation? He would like to add his own comment: “The Cowboys play like Girl Scouts running handing out cookies to the other team!’ Can’t arugue with logic like that.

Living in the Bermuda football triangle in between Pittsburgh, Philly, and Baltimore. We have the occasional dope cannon Redskin fan here as well, but that has really died down over the last decade (wonder why).

I wound up hating the Steelers because their fans are BY FAR the most annoying. Ravens fans have a tendency to only know information about their own team or at best the AFC North, and I feel somewhat obligated to root for them because I like Harbaugh, and I hate the Steelers…lol

As much as I want to hate the Pats for Spygate and beating the Eagles in the SB, for some reason I can’t help but appreciate the trading relationship between the two teams and what seems to be respect between Reid and Belicheck.

I am gonna have to echo the statement about the “cow pasture” team. I mean really, I thought this was a professional sport. I’ve hated the Bears since the fog bowl but that hate has intensified over the past few years. For the life of me I can’t figure out how the Eagles lose those games…
