Gameday is Here

Let the adventure begin.  There will be glorious weeks.  There will be times when we wonder why the heck we waste our time following this team.  As we prepare to shift our focus to gardening or reading 1950s detective novels or becoming serial killers, the Eagles will go and win a compelling game.  We’ll all buy right back in, heart and soul.  We’re suckers.

Some day that will pay off for us with a Super Bowl win.

I am excited to get 2012 underway.  This team is loaded with talent.  The challenge is for that talent to manifest itself in the form of a good team.  This isn’t fantasy football.  This is reality football.  Numbers and names don’t mean anything by themselves.  They must function as part of a unit.  I think 2011 humbled and focused the team.  If true, that should bode well for 2012.

Could this be the year that our faith is finally rewarded?  Could this be our “some day”?   I sure hope so.

Of course, John Fogerty sees things differently.

Jerk.

Some have asked my thoughts on the run defense without Mike Patterson and Antonio Dixon.  I made that the topic of my SB Nation Philly column. I focused on the front seven in that column.  The secondary is part of run defense, but I think we’ll succeed or fail based on what the front seven does.  Certainly we do need Kurt Coleman and Nate Allen to help at times.

Good or bad omen?  Alarm clock went off this morning and I turned it off without opening my eyes.  Finally did take a look at the clock and saw…9:11.

My first thought is uh-oh.  That’s a bad omen for us…9/11.  Then it occurred to me that it could be seen as somebody better call 911 for what we’re about to do to the Browns.

This is the way the insane mind of an NFL fan works on opening morning.

Pleasant distraction of the morning:  Eagles cheerleaders.

Like everyone else, I expect a win today, but as you pointed out earlier, let’s see a well played game throughout. That, and being able to stop the run better than last year will be encouraging. Seeing is believing. I also see a 10 to 11 win season, like a lot of other people. Best case scenario is 12, imho.

While other Eagles fans are concerned about only going with one backup safety and two backup OL, My biggest concern is whether or not Desean does this in the endzone today:

“Faith” is defined as a the firm belief for which there is no truth.

    In 2002-04, I didn’t have faith. I had confidence.

Now, until Vick and Juan step up, I believe that T-LAW *nailed* it by asking if, this, year, our “faith” will be rewarded.

Thanks for reading and thank you very much for being the resident historian and giving some older Eagles the credit and attention they deserve.
