ATL 24, PHI 7 – 2nd Half thread
Posted: October 28th, 2012 | Author: Tommy Lawlor | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 160 Comments »Speechless. The Falcons are playing their best game of the year. Fletcher Cox had a chance for an INT early on, but couldn’t make the grab. It seems like the Football Gods have been punishing us ever since.
This game isn’t over, but it’s headed in that direction. We must score. We must get stops. Simple as that.
I know you’re all pissed off. So am I. Ranting is okay, but just keep it in good taste. Let’s hope the Eagles actually give us something to cheer about.
_
wow the eagles really stink
We have to score 7 and then hope for a stop. I fear will f-up and they’ll score.
eagles over rated D line again shut out with no sacks.
I suspect Juan Castillo, sitting on the couch in the same sweatpants as last week with a full beard and stains all over his shirt is laughing heartily right now.
buh bye Reid.
I’m not pissed off. I’m exhausted. The offense and ST has been bad all year, and the DC change has seemingly destroyed the one functioning unit the team had.
It’s hard to look at this as anything other than a bad-to-mediocre team.
over paid and over rated talent
There’s only so much disappointment a fan can take
Fire Andy! Clap clap clap clap clap. Fire Andy! Clap clap clap clap clap.
Yep.
T-Law:
Maybe the Eagles are not as *talented* as we’ve all been saying for the past two seasons.
Nnamdi . . . oh, boy. He didn’t bump J-Jones and then just was badly out run.
D-Jax and Maclin . . . they’re pretty good. But not Jones and White.
The D-line? I really do believe age has caught them.
FINALLY . . . this team is the product of some mediocre to bad drafts.
And, as Austinfan rightly noted, when you don’t have a *Disaster season* — like the Colts did last year — you’re not going to get a TOP NOTCH QB to build around.
All very frustrating.
By the way . . . Reid’s got a job coaching the Chargers next year if he wants it.
chargers basically the eagles of the west. that would be a lateral move lol
The return units are terrible.
Take a knee Brandon.
I don’t believe you people. We play a turnover free half and all I read is “we are losing” and “we can’t stop them” and “of course we don’t turn it over when they have the ball for 25 out of the 30 minutes.” Bunch of whiners.
Good effort.
I tried.
Are you not watching? Which part of “we can’t stop them” is untrue?
D-Kelly totally missed the blitz . . . that was his guy
So he’s as good as Watkins?
when was the last time the eagles d forced a turnover???
INT vs the giants? just guessing. i dont think we had one vs lions
namdi INT in Detroit . Stafford over threw a long ball.
I will take a 3 and out for now.
I know we picked off Eli. Can’t remember the PIT game.
nnamdi had a pic against the lions on an overthrown ball
for some comedy, what if Marsh snatched the ball away a la Lucy…
I’m just going to be thankful that we have a good front office that will spend money and invest in scouting. Looking forward to years of being in contention with this young group.
12,355,525 babies have been born in the world since the Eagles’ last sack.
LOL
Other than the half holding the falcons to a field goal, still can’t generate a turnover, sack, or stop.
“Tommy Lawlor @lawlornfl
FG wasn’t what I had in mind, but every point helps. What the offense does is irrelevant if the defense fails to help. Must get stop or TO.”
Well, he is available. Not sure Andy would go there.
Defense is a joke
Was it just me or did it look like ATL committed a few helmet-to-helmet hits on that last drive. It looked like Assante launched his head into Celek and another ATL defender lead with his head on the one Vick scramble down near the 20.
well if vick is scrambling, he is a runner and the helmet-to-helmet hit is legal
You want to know what is worse than this? Not much.
But… I stuck to my policy of not starting players facing the Eagles on my fantasy team. So, I have Cutler’s 3 picks instead of Ryans 3 TDs.
Props for being faithful.
i started ATL D – where are the turnovers???
Boooooo. Booooooooo.
yeah, Juan Castillo was the problem. right?
Todd . . . we hardly knew yee
Abused. Horrid word, but it is what I am seeing.
Either we are tipping what our D is doing, or we are doing an impressive job of calling exactly the wrong thing for the play the Falcons have.
The whole staff needs to go. screw this wide 9.
In Seattle. Ask Chris Clemons.
Where is our pass rush
Let’s see, this team needs a new OC, a new DC, a new QB, good offensive linemen and also… a new head coach. In other words, we’re screwed for the next 2-3 years.
But this is a *talented* team.
Or someone with a better gameplan. Look at what Shanahan is doing with option plays. Their Oline sucks ass too
Tommy, disregard the game review this week. Post this ad.
WANTED: Players who can run, block, and tackle.
Trent Cole has dressed as Mamula for Halloween.
Mud fest time.Let’s hope for a change
Listen to the roar. Awesome!
HOLY SHIT IT’S A SACK!
Stop the presses i think we may have a sack
lol it looked like ryan just dove into the defender
Still counts dammit.
I knew eventually a qb would fall down and give us an easy sack.
WHY TAKE THAT PENALTY?!?!?!?
Take the down
i really don’t understand that. i mean 5 yards doesnt make much of a difference when you are this close so giving them another shot at it seems crazy.
Agreed
Defense bailed Reid out of a questionable decision.
STOP THE CLOCK! Eagles have a sack.
Sack and a 3rd down stop? My head just exploded.
Eagles D players just getting their resumes up to date
PR and KOR in one game.
game over. I’m gonna watch X factor now knowing the Eagles don’t have it.
What are we, Italy? Bailing on us when we are in our hour of need.
I’m German. Think we bailed out enough countries…
T-Law:
Not sure what Washburn’s seeing this year . . . but Brandon Graham, I think, is outplaying Babin.
Keep Graham out there. Let him develop his game.
Babin got paid a big contract and stopped playing. Cut him as an example to the rest of the team.
Same can be said about Cole and Herremans
agreed
didnt think i would ever see the day when people are talking trash about cole.
Wash has said he knows Graham needs more snaps. Think his love for Babin causes him to stick with him more than he should.
Maybe we’ll see Foles if this game get’s out of hands.
Not sure you want him out there if wind/rain are factors.
Can he play defense? Couldn’t be much worse….
I guess we haven’t blown enough timeouts yet
The refs have been cowardly on these types of challenges this year. Not sure they will overturn the call.
If AR is fired, Rex Ryan may be available.
No. Nonono. Please no. We already have a HC who is more mouth than action.
I would have gone for it. Sure that’d be a short field, but the defense hasn’t stopped them all day.
Down 3 scores with a defense that hasn’t stopped them yet, gotta go for it right there. At least a good gameday coach would. Unfortunately we are stuck with the tubby idiot.
DA-VID-SHAW. DA-VID-SHAW.
So the head coach from Stanford then?
DA-VID-SHAW. DA-VID-SHAW. DA-VID-SHAW !!!
Possibly the worst challenge in the history of NFL football.
This team has no heart!!!
Saints are going to put 50+ on us next week
Wow.
Here come the “Fire Andy” chants
marshawn lynch flew in from seattle to run thru arm tackles
They’re better than we are. Maybe not overall “talent”-wise. But everything else-wise.
nate Allen = bust
I haven’t seen the Eagles this bad on offense since 1998 –
DANA BIBLE-era
What about defense????
Why are our guys always laying on the ground?
Stick a fork in em
You can change coaches as much as you want but if the players haven’t mastered the fundamentals of tackling it’s not going to do much.
The players are not playing inspired football. There is a laundry list including the basics that aren’t getting done.
RE: WR’s
We’re seeing why BIG wide receivers are important in today’s NFL.
The Eagles have none starting.
And, please, Jason Avant needs to sit down.
You can get by with smaller guys, but need a precise passer who thrives on quick throws and RAC yards. That’s not Vick’s strong suit.
Yeah today’s loss is definitely on Vick.
Re: Today’s defense
The Eagles look so UN-physical defensively.
I know the NFL has outlawed Andre Waters/Wes Hopkins-type defense.
But this Eagles defense seems soft.
Shades of the ’83-’85 bunch under Marion Campbell . . .
________________
That led to Buddy Ryan in 1986.
And to T-Law becoming an Eagles’ fan.
So it really worked out.
Interesting RB-slot screen.
Falcons No. 72 was 5 yards downfield when Rodgers caught the ball.
What the hell?!?!?
These officials have sucked. Not blaming the score on them, but they haven’t helped.
This team is pathetic
Philly has not played well but these refs have missed a bunch of calls.
Juan is probably feeling a lot better about the job he was doing
I think this might be the worst complete game performance not due to a significant injury in the Reid era. This team is a mess. It’s becoming more and more apparent that Jim Johnson was the reason for the Eagles early decade success, in spite of Andy.
echoing MORTON
The records don’t lie
Indeed.
Jeff Lurie is not happy.
Joe Banner is laughing very hard.
Browns is not exactly an upgrade, but yea, Lurie should pay close attention to the fans’ dissatisfaction
Give Ol’ Joe a chance. He’s only been in charge for a week.
I think the Eagles think this is the bye week.
Eagles OL hasn’t seen a delayed blitz yet this season, I think.
Assuming we punt here, let’s get McCoy and Maclin out of there.
I agree. Let’s see Brown, Polk and the Nickster
Down by 20, time to start running.
Eagles in No-Huddle.
Their alacrity reminds me of the Eagles last drive in the 2004 SB
Why they are taking so long to move down field is beyond me. It’s like they want to have a close game. They need to go for the TD
It is insane. That’s coaching.
Alacrity is Al Michaels favorite word.
Unmasked, at last.
So, if we take this as yet another wake-up call for the Eagles, one has to wonder how many wake-up calls have to go ignored before someone checks for a pulse.
Re: This so-called “No Huddle” drive
1. letter to MM: the clock is the enemy.
2. maybe the problem in the SB in 2004 wasn’t McNabb in that last — incredibly slow no-huddle — drive. Maybe the problem lay elsewhere
I think there were enough problems to go around, honestly.
I really miss Jim Johnson
Re: Intensity Level
The Falcons came here at 6-0, having all but clinched their division.
The Eagles are 3-3 in a dogfight to make the playoffs.
Which team was more prepared to play today?
I swear if I have to hear about how much talent this team has one more time. Neither Jackson nor Maclin are special players, Vick is average, maybe, Oline sucks with no peters or Kelce, Celek and shady have game, that’s it on offense. Just accept this and move on. Cole and Babin have taken a step back, Nnamdi is sooo overrated, Coleman is average at best and Allen is nothing special. All this ‘talent’ doesn’t exist. This team has speed, not football players
Can we fire our equipment guy? Our guys are always falling down…ON OUR HOME FIELD.
Re: Jim Johnson’s legacy
Finding a great H.C. is no less hard than finding a great D.C.
The Eagles had JJ for 9 years and were great.
The Eagles had Bud Carson for couple years and set records.
Marion Campbell led the Birds defensive resurrection under Vermeil from ’77-82 and, like JJ, they were great.
Guys like that have two things in common . . . well traveled, very experienced, and creative.
Again, hard to find those guys.
I know Rex Ryan is not a popular guy, but I would love to have him as a DC. HC, not so much, but he’s a great defensive mind IMO.
Very true.
We do pay Maclin to catch the ball, right?
Casey Matthews making the most of his opportunities.
Herremans has been having a crappy year.
I lost a ton of respect for him after this game. Some of the players were still trying, and technically we were still in the game, yet this guy’s effort shows otherwise. That was just an abysmal effort on that last drive. I mean, did he even put forth 1% effort??? Really, really frustrating to watch.
T-Law:
What’s the longest pass you think Vick attempted today?
I’m not sure it was more than 20 yards.
Something like that.
That short game was moving the chains and not turning the ball over. The defense just forfeit an entire quarter and spotted the opponent 14 points in that time frame.
That was an awful series by Herremans.
That’s how we are going to end it? I am going for a walk in the downpour. I hate this team.
Herremans’ guy got Vick again. What is up with the Toddfather??
Bad, bad series.
8-8will be a successful year with this team and this staff.
WOW . . . those last 2 plays by Vick.
Shows a lack of good instincts.
Just saying.
he cant out run anyone anymore
In hindsight we maybe shouldn’t have extended Cole’s and Herreman’s contracts. And I sure hope we won’t give Maclin another rise.
I’m beginning to think that last year was no fluke.
______________
T-Law:
I saw no difference between Watkins and Kelly.
Offensively, the Eagles were out-muscled and out-schemed.
Vick looks lost. Nothing else to say.
Defensively, the Falcons out-muscled and out-schemed the Birds.
The D-line is a liability right now.
Nnamdi is a question mark against top-flight talent.
DRC . . . maybe he’s going D-Jax / Samuel on us.
The safeties are, as remarked earlier, inconsistent.
Very disappointing all around.
Defense. 100%.
When you let the opponent stay on the field for the majority of the 1st quarter and score 2TDs, you deserve to lose.
And the way the Eagles moved the ball on offense until they were forced to take 4-down shots only proves that had the Eagles started with that in game 1, this game wouldn’t have been so critical.
Amazing. I was expecting the offense to be a turnover machine and let us down, not the defense being a goose egg until the last minutes of the 4th quarter.
This.
Well?
A hurricane and noreaster is heading to Philadelphia.
More?
I cannot believe that I am rooting for Dallas…. How embarrassing is that?!
Hey, better than rooting for the Giants
The faster the giants win the division the faster those who still have hope can move on…just sayin
David Shaw. Stanford Head Coach.
I think T-Law is one more loss in the next 2 weeks from throwing open the topic of who’s to follow AR.
