Gameday Stuff

Sorry I was out yesterday.  Battled a cold and was pretty useless.  All better today.  Ready for the big game.

Here’s my preview for PE.com.

Inactives:

QB Trent Edwards
RB Chris Polk
WR Riley Cooper
OL Steve Vallos
OL Nate Menkin

DE Vinny Curry
LB Akeem Jordan

Dion Lewis will play in his first game of the year.  I do not expect him to replace Brandon Boykin at KOR.  Eagles are still very high on Boykin.  Lewis wasn’t natural in that role.  Dion will play on the coverage units.  I’m sure the cut of Brian Rolle got his attention and Lewis will give max effort today.

No Vallos means no true backup C.  I don’t know if that means that Evan Mathis or Danny Watkins would replace him.  I would lean toward Mathis of the two.  Not sure I’d want to see Watkins having to make line calls and adjustments.

I don’t have a good feel for this game since I don’t know which Steelers team we’ll see.  If they play like the first 3 games, we’ll win.  How much of a difference will the returning guys make?

I am nervous about Demetress Bell vs Steelers LBs.  He must get low to block them.  Any struggles and we can put in King Dunlap, who is active.

Will Andy run the ball?  He did last week and it worked.  The Steelers are better vs the pass than run right now.  That tells you to stick with the run.  Will Andy do it?  Can he do it?

The pressure is all on the Steelers this game. I’d like to see the Eagles be patient on offense and let the game come to them, while letting the defense force Roethlisberger into bad decisions. Let’s hope that Havili wasn’t just putting in a guest performance last week and that that Marty goes back to more I-formation today.

“Battling a cold” = O’s late game Friday + PBR?

Only drank 5 beers that night. I’d have gladly admitted if I was battling the Budweiser Flu.

I’m nervous for this game. Ray Horton runs LeBeau’s system out in Arizona and it gave the birds fits with an assist from Reid and Mornhinweg and their god awful play calling.

If the birds stay balanced, we can win this, but seems like every statistical trend is going against them. And let’s not forget that the Steelers realize they simply cannot go 1-3.

I read a comment somewhere that pointed out that if we go 2-2 over these next four tough games we will be in good shape for the second half of the season. I thought that sounded reassuring, since we got jobbed by the schedule makers. Not only do the next two teams have twice as much time to prepare and rest, but our own bye is minimized by the opponent having one as well.

Should I be worried that I’m not worried?

I am curious, does the cross state rivalry mean much to the players? Most are not from PA and I doubt they deal with local Steeler fans who are offspring of men that abandoned the home team to jump on a winner’s bandwagon in the 70’s like many of us do. Is it just another non-conference game for them?
