PHI at PIT – 2nd Half Thread

Posted: October 7th, 2012 | Author: | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 267 Comments »

We’re down 10-0.

* Vick has a pair of costly fumbles.

* The OL is getting confused by some blitzes.

* Balanced offense so far.  No complaints there.

* No big plays for the offense. Could use one (25 or more yds).

* Defense isn’t getting enough pressure on Big Ben.  Might want to mix in more blitzes.

* PIT’s short passing game got going in the 2nd half.  Need to adjust for that.

* We were down 17-7 at half vs BAL.  This is still a very winnable game.

  • lilmc

Let’s start small. How about some good kick coverage to start.

    • TheRogerPodacter

i would love to see a kick through the back of the end zone

    • dropscience

      That’ll work.

    • TheRogerPodacter

HOLY SHIT AMAZING KICK & COVERAGE!

      • TheRogerPodacter

        gotta love colt anderson.

    • http://twitter.com/daniel_suraci Daniel

      go colt, go!

  • http://twitter.com/corry_k Corry Henry

So colt anderson DOES make a difference

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=548999324 Matt Hoover

Why are we getting away from Havali as the lead blocker for Shady? That was working why stop?

  • dropscience

    Ugh.

  • bdbd20

Well, it looks like we won’t have to deal with Big Ben scrambling.

Their running game is looking pretty good.

  • Baloophi

    Zero pressure.

  • TheRogerPodacter

even when we have good coverage in the secondary, they still complete the pass. damn…

  • Baloophi

    Thank the maker!

  • bdbd20

I’ll have to admit that was great chemistry between Ben and Wallace on that play.

  • ACViking

Eagles once led 79-1 in yards.

    Outgained about 180 – 30 after that.

    • TheRogerPodacter

      oh my guh.

  • TheRogerPodacter

punt return team is almost laughably bad these days. can’t wait to see the penalty…

  • phillychuck

Is Nnamdi becoming a liability? Seems other teams are attacking him.

    • Baloophi

      Becoming?!

    • bdbd20

Nnamdi is what he is. He is not Revis, but he can be good. No CB is gonna look good when the D-line is getting whipped.

  • DamonL86

Our return game is a joke

    • TheRogerPodacter

lets try this once again. last return was for a whopping 3 yards. lol

    • dropscience

Agreed, and I bought in during the preseason. Shame on me.

    • lilmc

He is averaging 5 yards a return. Why not Desean?

  • Baloophi

This will give us a chance to fumble the return…

  • bdbd20

Moten looking good so far. I believe he drew that penalty.

    • TommyLawlor

      He did.

  • http://twitter.com/corry_k Corry Henry

There’s always about 7 black jerseys waiting when Johnson catches the punt.

  • TheRogerPodacter

per joe buck – rekick cost us about 1 yard of field position. but hey, we got a nice punt return.

  • ACViking

    T-Law:

Has the NFL solved the Eagles’ version of the Wide 9?

  • iskar36

Honestly, if that was against us, I would be pissed, but I’ll take it if we can jump start our offense.

    • TheRogerPodacter

i’d be pissed at whoever the defender was for leading with his helmet like that. either go in to wrap up or lead with your shoulder.

      • iskar36

That wasn’t the penalty though. It was a “late hit”. In fact, I’m not even sure you can be called for helmet to helmet once the player is established as a runner.

  • phillychuck

Clark should get a fine, too.

  • TheRogerPodacter

interesting that on 3rd & 2, we run behind the two TE. someone on the OL got some awesome push on the left side too.

  • dropscience

Watkins did something we can be happy about for once.

    • Baloophi

Let his man beat him so he could recover the resulting fumble.

      • dropscience

        Touche’.

  • TheRogerPodacter

omg vick. hold. on. to. the. ball.

  • iskar36

For fuck sake. Someone make Vick hold onto the fucking football!

    • Baloophi

He needs some sort of high-powered electromagnet attached to his magical kevlar vest… that way when he tucks to run the ball will stay attached to his body.

  • phillychuck

Fine him, too. Steelers need to figure out they can’t play like that in 2012. Aikman doesn’t get it, either.

    • rls255

That’s cause Aikman took too many hits to the head, just doesn’t compute to him.

  • A_T_G

I’d like to see a little no huddle. Maybe it would get Vick into the game.

    • rls255

Maybe their saving it for the 4th? I wanna see it too, been working for us.

  • bdbd20

Mundy has a rep as a headhunter. Nice job of Maclin of playing dead there, if that was a flop.

  • phillychuck

Whn Vick throws the ball on time, he throws really nice passes. They need to scheme so that he doesn’t have to scramble.

  • iskar36

That is 4 times Vick has not had good ball security. If we lose this game, it is all on Vick.

  • http://twitter.com/corry_k Corry Henry

I’m always curious as to why players act shocked when they get a flag after a hit like Mundy and Clark each had. If you lower your head and launch, you’re going to get a flag and then a fine. Refs are erring on the side of caution. Simple as that.

  • A_T_G

Steelers looked pretty pissed about the TO. Hope that comes back to bite them.

    • lilmc

Harrison has not gotten his late hit flag yet!

  • rls255

    SHADY!!!!!!!

  • ACViking

    Run the Damn Ball.

    • ACViking

It felt good to say . . .

  • TheRogerPodacter

gotta love mccoy. we need to keep getting him the ball in space!

  • TommyLawlor

Great play call, great job by Shady. Huge TD.

    • http://twitter.com/corry_k Corry Henry

Shady is easily what Brian Westbrook was to this offense. When he’s going, this offense is going. When he’s not, the offense is stagnant.

    • rls255

Agree, he cut that back and burst up the seam. Nice work on that one!

    • Baloophi

A good defensive stop here and there’s cause for optimism…

  • ACViking

Quick pass to the RB in space . . . a Bill Walsh classic WCO.

Works great when you have a McCoy there.

Now . . . SACKS. We need SACKS.

    • TheRogerPodacter

no sack there, but again some good pressure on 3rd down.

      • iskar36

At some point though, the “good pressure” should lead to sacks. We have 7 sacks in a little over 4.5 games, that simply is not good enough.

  • A_T_G

Hmm, those quick passes into the blitz work pretty well. Someone should write that down.

  • ACViking

    T-Law:

    Quick question . . .

What adjustments do you see the offense having made at halftime?

    • TommyLawlor

Nothing stood out to me there, except for the quick pass vs blitz on the TD.

  • TheRogerPodacter

aaaaaaaaaaaaand once again, we can’t cover kickoffs.

  • http://twitter.com/corry_k Corry Henry

And the special teams just lets the momentum swing right back.

  • Baloophi

RE: kick-off problems. Are we better served just kicking it out of bounds?

    • TommyLawlor

Guys were right there, just missed on that tackle. Wasn’t like last week when there were huge running lanes.

  • phillychuck

Who missed that tackle on the kickoff? 57?

  • ACViking

    I’m Sorry.

BOBBY APRIL NEEDS TO FOLLOW ROLLE TO THE BREAD LINE

    • phillychuck

      Sadly, I agree.

  • Zachary Kaplan

Need a TO at some point. Maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t see us on the right side of the outcome of this game if we stay -2.

  • rls255

With this rain our D needs to start trying to punch the ball out. BDawk was awesome at that. First guy make the tackle, second go for the ball.

  • http://twitter.com/corry_k Corry Henry

    I’ll take a 3 and out.

  • http://twitter.com/benjabad Ben Hert

    LANDRI!!! Awesome play!

  • Baloophi

When you’re a punt returner, what’s the idea behind telling your punt-returners to get away from the ball… but then you get real close to it? Can anything good come out of that?

    • http://twitter.com/daniel_suraci Daniel

No and I don’t know what the last guy was doing either. Missed who it was, but he was hovering and looked like he went to fake grab it. Really stupid and dangerous.

      • aub32

it was colt. he was going to pick it up after the steelrs player touched the ball. if the steelers touch the ball first, then it’s a free return. if we turn it over it goes back to the spot it was touched

  • TheRogerPodacter

such a long punt, i am AMAZED that we didnt even have a chance to return that one. it looks like we are keeping a guy halfway back to block the first guy that gets by on the outside, but it can’t help us if theyre getting by on all sides.

    • phillychuck

You’ve got to catch the punt to return it. Johnson made no attempt to catch it. Bring back Chad Hall.

      • TheRogerPodacter

i hear reno mahe needs a job.

      • iskar36

I don’t want Hall back. Get Jackson back there. He is an actual weapon as a returner.

        • phillychuck

At least Hall caught the ball in the air.

  • http://twitter.com/daniel_suraci Daniel

Guys, other than the TD and Landri being awesome — anyone notice the other team had to burn a timeout before we did!? We’re almost done the third quarter and big red hasn’t blown one yet!!

  • ACViking

    Re: Demarius Johnson

    Has he lost his confidence?

  • http://twitter.com/corry_k Corry Henry

…did anyone else just get the Greenbay-Indy call?

  • TheRogerPodacter

now FOX starts playing audio from another game? sounds like mike mcglynn is hurt…

  • http://twitter.com/corry_k Corry Henry

    That was an ugly series.

  • ACViking

    A Deion Lewis sighting

  • TheRogerPodacter

this OL is a mess. mixing up the calls before the play even starts…

  • rls255

    nice coverage on that punt

    • TheRogerPodacter

gilyard first one down there and didnt give up on the play when he missed.

  • Baloophi

    Good punt and coverage there.

  • TheRogerPodacter

was that last drive a 3 & out with 3 passes? sigh.

    • Baloophi

Perhaps, but just as importantly, 0 fumbles.

  • phillychuck

Very big defensive series here. Gotta stop ‘em if we hope to win.

    • Baloophi

If you could schedule a turnover, now would be an excellent time.

  • Baloophi

    Last year’s run D making a cameo…

    • phillychuck

Kendricks has been getting dominated on run plays. “Bout time for play action.

    • http://twitter.com/daniel_suraci Daniel

      Exactly what I just said.

  • ACViking

    Re: Turnovers

Best bit of information I’ve heard in a long time (no offense, T-Law).

The Eagles are really struggling getting TOs the last 2 seasons.

  • phillychuck

Hit on Griffin should be a fine, too.

    • http://twitter.com/daniel_suraci Daniel

Pay $25,000 to stay 5-0. Sounds like a bargain.

  • ACViking

I love watching DRC on running plays

  • rls255

Come on D, step it up!

  • phillychuck

    Kendricks high ankle sprain.

    • rls255

      Damn…I hope he’s ok.

    • TheRogerPodacter

walking very carefully. hope its nothing severe!!

  • DamonL86

Marching right down the field on us

  • rls255

Casey Matthews sighting…with the stop on that run.

  • http://twitter.com/corry_k Corry Henry

    Casey Matthews sighting…interesting.

  • Baloophi

Let’s hope we keep this to a FG…

Fumbling in the end zone was a disaster. Even if we “only” get a FG there, we’d be within one possession no matter what happens here. Remember, the Steelers can easily manage an 8 minute drive.

    • TommyLawlor

Must hold them to a FG on this.

      • lilmc

We are getting a lot of Mamulas’ today. We have to finish with sacks.

  • iskar36

Wow. Miller was open though. We got lucky.

    • TheRogerPodacter

      very lucky!

    • TheRogerPodacter

looked like it was casey matthews who lost him

    • rls255

Yeah, looked like Matthews let him go and Allen came over late. Glad it was an errant throw!

    • TommyLawlor

      Lucky is okay

  • Baloophi

    Ice him, Andy!

    • TommyLawlor

      Jerk.

  • ACViking

    Yardage . . . 268-78 since late in the first Q

  • http://twitter.com/benjabad Ben Hert

Casey Matthews sighting…on that blown coverage =(

  • CampDracula

That was bad D, but I can’t helps but hold the previous offensive possession partially at fault. McCoy scores. The defense followed up with a 3 and out… And the Eagles had a 3 and out with 3 straight passes. In the rain. Against a weak run-D.

  • TheRogerPodacter

only a 17-18 yard KOR. thats pathetic!!

  • rls255

Nice to see the I-formation. Keep in coming MM!

  • Baloophi

    Bad spot

    • rls255

I agree, I think he had the 1st.

  • http://twitter.com/corry_k Corry Henry

Forward progress should get him the first down.

  • dropscience

Don’t think that was the most generous of spots, but I’m not sure I want a challenge.

  • iskar36

Definitely need to challenge. At the very least you call a time out for a potentially big play.

    • TheRogerPodacter

thats my thinking as well. plan for it being short so you are ready to play it if you need.

  • bdbd20

Not sure AR’s gonna win this challenge. Refs will probably just take the easy way out.

  • phillychuck

Bad spot, but you’re not going to win this challenge. Another 3 and out.

    • TommyLawlor

Was bad. I think they’ll move the ball forward, just don’t know if it will be enough for the 1st.

      • Baloophi

Right. The goal here should be to “win” that timeout…

      • TheRogerPodacter

if they move the ball forward, but it is still not enough for a first down, does andy lose his challenge?

  • ACViking

Where the Hell is Mike Perreira?!

  • phillychuck

    Game on the line.

    • TheRogerPodacter

holy crap mccoy. amazing work there.

  • phillychuck

    Great run by McCoy.

  • Baloophi

    Wow. Dicey.

  • http://twitter.com/corry_k Corry Henry

    Wow McCoy!

  • bdbd20

    AR channeling his inner Switzer.

  • ACViking

    The play worked.

    But that’s a BARRY SWITZER!

  • Baloophi

Nothing but short passing so far this half…

  • phillychuck

    Andy burning more TOs.

  • iskar36

Oh come on!!! Keep those time outs!

  • DamonL86

    good use of a T.O

  • Baloophi

Timeout????? Yeah, we won’t need more than one the rest of this game…

  • Zachary Kaplan

Awesome drive. Waste a TO on the challenge. Waste a TO on a 3rd and medium. Good thing this game is a blow out and we won’t need those later.

  • Baloophi

If you go for it here, at least do playaction and stick it to them.

    • Baloophi

      That’s why I’m a coach!

  • ACViking

I like both Maclin and D-Jax.

But this offense would benefit immensely by a BIG wideout who can make plays.

    • CampDracula

      agreed. Especially with this o-line.

  • http://twitter.com/corry_k Corry Henry

No Havili on the field? I do’nt like that on 4th and inches.

  • TheRogerPodacter

mccoy is a beast on short yardage (goal to go excluded)

  • ACViking

Haven’t seen Bryce Brown since that 3-yard run where he got clunked in the head

  • http://twitter.com/benjabad Ben Hert

    BIG PLAYS!!!

  • http://twitter.com/corry_k Corry Henry

Variation of the Brent Celek screen there.

  • Baloophi

Time for the old Celek slip the other way throw…

    • Baloophi

Wrong play but I’ll take it!

    • TommyLawlor

Right guy, wrong play. Great result.

  • dropscience

    Fuck yeah!

  • rls255

    YEAH!!!!!!!!!

  • bdbd20

Even if we lose, this has been a great comeback by Vick. Nice to see.

  • iskar36

    Fuck yea!!!

  • CampDracula

This team is bad for my blood pressure.

    • lilmc

I swear they are taking more years off my life than my kids.

    • TommyLawlor

      I’m a walking heart attack.

    • http://twitter.com/corry_k Corry Henry

I’m pretty sure being a fan of this team has shortened my life span by a good 15 years.

  • http://twitter.com/corry_k Corry Henry

I don’t want to lose, but seeing them come back like this makes me feel better.

I’ll still be a dick to all the Steelers fans I work with regardless.

  • phillychuck

Leave Vick on the bench for the first three quarters, then bring him in in the 4th. Yeah, I know, never happen.

    • TommyLawlor

Almost sounds like a good idea.

  • nicolajNN

Now we need the D to step up again as well…

  • slackerjoe

1 point lead – this is our specialty!

    • CampDracula

      Pipe down!

  • ACViking

The Eagles were 6 inches from being up 21-13 . . . FUMBLE

  • TheRogerPodacter

a touchback! way to go ST!

  • phillychuck

    Pretty obvious hold.

  • http://twitter.com/corry_k Corry Henry

kendricks is back on the field.

  • TheRogerPodacter

i just noticed on this play (1st and 20), that babin started to rush, realized he wasnt going to get there, and he ran back into coverage. interesting.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000462635892 Thorin McGee

Who does Cologne keep holding? is that Cox?

  • rls255

cOME ON d, THIRD DOWN STOP!!

    • rls255

      Wishful thinking I guess.

    • TheRogerPodacter

      zone defense. nope.

  • iskar36

We are giving them way to much time to throw though. Our dline has not played well this game.

    • CampDracula

A blitz once in a while helps.

  • dropscience

Grr. Get. Off. The. Field. Defense.

  • CampDracula

Did we blitz at all in this game?

    • TheRogerPodacter

yea, i’ve seen it a few times., but not too often.

  • http://twitter.com/daniel_suraci Daniel

    Our team cannot play zone.

  • phillychuck

We simply can’t play zone coverage underneath.

  • phillychuck

Kendricks back in the game, at least.

  • TheRogerPodacter

    COME ON DEFENSE!

  • TheRogerPodacter

I hate it how we hit the guy close to the LOS, but they continue to work for another 3 or 4 yards…

  • onemorebop

Feel like we should just let them score the TD and save some clock … sigh.

    • rls255

No way, they have too much field to go, if they were at the 5 yard line maybe.

  • DamonL86

so glad we have 1 timeout left

  • rls255

Ok, second third down….COME ON D!

  • phillychuck

Blitz here. Run blitz, convert to pressure.

  • DamonL86

This looks like a 2 point loss for us

  • onemorebop

Now would be a good time for some D-line pressure, too.

  • ACViking

Lots of Steeler football today. Pounding the Eagles.

  • TommyLawlor

    I am one nervous motherscratcher.

    • lilmc

      I can’t take it.

    • rls255

      I think I feel a stroke coming on…..

  • http://twitter.com/corry_k Corry Henry

They’ve only given up 13 points so far, but I don’t feel like this defense has been real sharp today.

  • iskar36

With us down to 1 timeout, these next two plays pretty much decide the game. If they get the first, they are basically in FG range and can run out most of the clock before kicking the FG. Need the D to come up big on this play.

  • phillychuck

This will likely come down to a FG kick by the Steelers…if they get a FD you need to let them score a TD immediately.

  • ACViking

    T-Law:

Philip Hunt’s picked up some of the 2nd half snaps that Graham had in the 1st half.

Have to say, HUNT may be the better run defender.

  • phillychuck

    Game over.

  • http://twitter.com/daniel_suraci Daniel

    Wow, pick much?

  • DamonL86

    game

  • Baloophi

Now we’re done. Did Tynes get traded to the Steelers by chance?

  • http://twitter.com/corry_k Corry Henry

    Game.

  • Baloophi

Get the King ready to block…

  • rls255

    We NEED a strip!

  • ACViking

Bunch formation has KILLED the Birds today

  • TheRogerPodacter

hey tommy, regarding our defense – it seems like opposing teams are doing a lot of ‘pick’ routes when they know we are going to be playing man coverage to get open.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000462635892 Thorin McGee

That’s what you do against bump-n-run. The defense has to play off and at different levels against the bunch and other pick routes.

  • DamonL86

    Great job D

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000462635892 Thorin McGee

This isn’t on the defense. Michael Vick fumbled this game away in the first half. Everything else on the team has worked well enough to win this game but Vick.

  • Baloophi

Vick fumbling in the end zone was the game. 3 pts. there would have been helpful…

  • ACViking

    Eagles defense WORN down.

    • TheRogerPodacter

seriously! have they not been rotating the DL as much as usual? or is it just the LBs?

  • rls255

It all comes down to this kick…

  • iskar36

Regardless of if they get the FG or not, I think it is fair to say at this point, with Vick at QB, our offense is not very good 5 games into the season.

  • rls255

Where is Lavar Arrington when you need him?????

  • ACViking

    Why not let Pittsburgh score.

    Too late.

    • phillychuck

Had to do that 1:30 ago.

  • TheRogerPodacter

can we pray for a false start on the kick? that drains 10 sec off the clock here, wont it? lol

  • Zachary Kaplan

Close games eventaully bite you in the ass, hello 10/7/2012

  • bdbd20

It’s amazing that we send an all out blitz and they still get 2 yards.

  • Zachary Kaplan

This loss can be directly tied to Vick. Cost us a minimum of 3 points.

  • TheRogerPodacter

well thats that. good day to all of you, gents.

  • Baloophi

Garbage. Game lost in the 1st quarter… too bad we had to stick around for the rest.

On paper, I would’ve taken a loss on the road in Pittsburgh, but this one we gave away.

  • Zachary Kaplan

And I believe people told me I couldn’t bad mouth the defense in the earlier post by Tommy. Great performance today….but what happens? They can’t hold the other team when the game was on the line. Steelers, much like the Giants, marched down the field for a chance to win (unlike the Giants, and Ravens, this was on the 1st time they blew the lead).

  • DarthBanner

This loss brought to you by a healthy dose of Michael Vick Suck with a pinch of Andy Reid timeout magic and a hint of Juan coming up small with the game on the line.

    • rls255

Dude, what’s it with you and the coaches? Sure there was some questionable calls, but this game was CLEARLY lost on the field by the players. Period.

      • DarthBanner

I didn’t realize Mike Vick wasn’t on the field.. And Juan’s defense has generated 1 turnover and zero sacks in the last 2 games.

        • rls255

I didn’t realize coaches can put on a helmet and get on the field to make plays, my bad. Our players had their chances and either gave it up or got beat by the guy infront of them.

          • Baloophi

Guys, stop fighting. It’s not the coaches, and it’s not the players. It’s both!

          • rls255

            I can agree with this.

          • phillychuck

Coaches put the players on the field, and, in the Eagles’ case, pick the players. If the players mess up, it’s on them, too.

We bascially controlled this game but turned the ball over twice in the first quarter. Once in an area where we should have at least gotten chip shot fg. I’m guessing you wanna see Foles in there? Yeah, I’m intrigued by Foles based off the pre-season but once you make that change you can’t go back and I’m not ready to go there.

That game is on Mike Vick. No way around it.

  • bdbd20

Feels like last year. Vick turnovers and inability to stop teams on 3rd down.

Yay. Time to start looking at head coaches.

This game will sum up our season

  • Steag209

This offense is just dreadful. What’s happened?

  • CampDracula

If he only AR had a timeout, he could have iced the kicker. *sigh*

  • slackerjoe

Could have used at least one turnover today. Tough to win at -2 turnover differential.

  • Baloophi

I believe we’re averaging 16 points a game on offense. Not good.

  • nicolajNN

Easy now everybody, still 3-2. Believe it or not the season is not yet over

    • http://twitter.com/corry_k Corry Henry

3-2 with a very turn over prone team.

  • bdbd20

Maybe we’re just not that good. If our offense keeps this up, we just have to come to the realization that Vick is not gonna be the answer.

My angry thoughts on this team after another unimpressive game?

    PRETENDER

Offense is awful. Can’t block. Can’t pass. Can’t hold onto the ball. Can’t get open. Just a awful offense. I don’t care about the yardage, this team isn’t a “high powered” offense.

86 points through 5 weeks. 17.2 PPG. No team is “real” that averages 17.2 PPG.

The Defense? Very sold. But comes up small in key spots….all the time. 3 – 4th quarter leads blown in 6 chances (yes the shitty offense bailed them out two times, but point remains). You would like your “great” defense to come up with the stops more than 50% of the time.

Turnovers? -2…Both on Vick – could have lost 2 more (cost on one the Vick non-slide) and DeSean Jackson fighting for more yards. You don’t win in the NFL consistently when you give the ball away.

I’m sure I’ll read how this was a tough game, wasn’t a “should” win. But you know what, this isn’t a good team ,don’t cover up the poor performance because the Steelers are hard to beat at home. This Eagles team should have won, but they have bad QB play and make stupid mistakes.

    • rls255

I agree to an extent, but it’s October. Still plenty of times to turn this thing around.

  • ACViking

This Eagles defense is NOT the 1991 version.

And the NFL in 2012 is NOT the NFL of 1991.

Reid needs to get the offense untracked.

Or this season is going to be very long.

    • Baloophi

Wasn’t the old goal for a defense to keep teams under 17 points? We’re averaging 16 on offense – even an outstanding defense couldn’t win games for this team.

Obviously the red zone turnovers need to stop, but it does seem like we’re missing something else this year… big plays, maybe?

      • phillychuck

Exactly–no long TDs, no defensive TDs. Need a few game-changers next week.

  • phillychuck

Pretty badly played game by Vick. Difference in the game was the Steelers’ superior QB.

  • iskar36

My take aways from this game were:
    1. Vick is a turnover machine. At some point, the coaches need to bench him with his continued turnover issues. I don’t care if they bring him back a game later, but the message needs to be sent to Vick.

    2. Our offense in general is simply not very good. Maybe it is all on Vick, but we simply are not scoring enough. Yards are great, but you win based on points, not yards, and we are not scoring them.

    3. Our defense is better than last year, but our dline is overrated. We have 7 sacks on the season. That’s 1.4 sacks per game. Sure, sacks are not everything, but when you are using the Wide 9 which is supposed to thrive on getting sacks, you are not getting the job done when you have 0 sacks in two games.

And just to compare how other teams are doing against the QB/Olines we have faced, here are a few statistics.

Browns – 9 sacks total allowed; 2 by the Eagles. Averaging 1.8/game
Ravens – 9 sacks total allowed; 2 by the Eagles. Averaging 1.8/game
Cardinals – 23 sacks total allowed; 3 by the Eagles. Averaging 4.6/game.
Giants – 8 sacks total allowed; 0 by the Eagles. Averaging 1.6/game
Steelers – 9 sacks total allowed; 0 by the Eagles. Averaging 2.25/game (had a bye week already)

So outside of the Browns & Ravens games, our dline (and blitzers when we blitz) have simply not put up the numbers other teams have.

  • DarthBanner

3-2 is a mirage. The Eagles are dead last in offense, don’t have a sack in two games and Vick is leading the league in turnovers.

    • slackerjoe

      Glass half full much?

  • ceteris_paribus1776

Any confidence left in Vick? Offense just isn’t very good with him behind center right now. They even did a lot of 3 step drops to ease the pressure. Vick wasn’t awful, but he’s not good enough to lead a SB contender..
