PHI 15, CAR 14 – 2nd Half Thread

Super Bowl, here we come.  After going down 14-3, I got a bit scared.  Now I know that Big Red was just trying to make his former protege Ron Rivera feel good for a few minutes.  Andy is nice.

Bryce Brown looks great.  The OL is opening good holes.  Even Dion Lewis is contributing.

Nick Foles was good on the opening drive unti that got to the Red Zone.  Since then, he’s been highly erratic.  His decision-making has not been good.  Nick is forcing the ball into coverage.  That has to stop.  He’s had 3 INTs dropped by the Panthers.

The defense was awful, but then came alive in the 2nd Qtr. More of that, please.

Not just Rivera, I’ll bet Mcdermott was lovin’ it.

I am staying awake in hopes of seeing positive signs from Foles. We currently don’t have a QB for next year and there aren’t really many options out there.

Not sure what has happened with Allen as the season has progressed. I thought he was really solid the first month. Coleman just reverted back to the subpar bench player he is.

Entertaining game if less than stellar execution by both teams so far. It does piss me of to no end though to watch the Eagles stay close by using a run/pass ratio close to 50/50 and not asking his QB to do too much with a conservative game plan.

  78. 78 ceteris_paribus1776 said at 10:57 PM on November 26th, 2012:

  79. 79 bdbd20 said at 10:53 PM on November 26th, 2012:

That won’t be an issue next year.

  80. 80 Mike Roman said at 10:54 PM on November 26th, 2012:

Dog sh*t on the OL, but still winning by running a balanced offense..all the more reason to fire Reid. Shoulda been doing this all year (last 14 years).

  81. 81 BobSmith77 said at 10:58 PM on November 26th, 2012:

Don’t expect Reid to ‘run the ball for running the ball sake’ but it has been even more frustrating this year refuse to dial things back given all of the inconsistency/roster shuffling/injuries the OL has dealt with this year.

  82. 82 teltschikfakeout88 said at 11:02 PM on November 26th, 2012:

It’s the panthers one of a few teams which we have more wins than. Let’s not extrapolate this performance onto to others games against other teams. Also we just fumbled again. Same junk as the past games and I am pretty sure Reid does not game plan for lost fumbles. Just sayin

  83. 83 SleepingDuck said at 10:54 PM on November 26th, 2012:

    Please stop fumbling….

  90. 90 Erik Haney said at 10:58 PM on November 26th, 2012:

tommy what do you think of curry so far?

  91. 91 BobSmith77 said at 11:01 PM on November 26th, 2012:

I would love to see the numbers break out after tonight on the defense under Castillo and Bowles but I have no idea why this defense is suddenly tackling the past month like they did last year. Only guy that tackles with any kind of consistency not on the DL is Ryans.

  92. 92 A_T_G said at 11:04 PM on November 26th, 2012:

McCoy’s been teaching Brown how to carry the ball.

  93. 93 BobSmith77 said at 11:05 PM on November 26th, 2012:

I have been pretty impressed by Newton tonight. He has a little more talent around him than RGIII does but both guys could use a lot more help.

  94. 94 A_T_G said at 11:05 PM on November 26th, 2012:

  102. 102 Matt Hoover said at 1:55 AM on November 27th, 2012:

Why hasn’t Reid ever done the QB sneak going back to Dmac on 4th and inches?

  103. 103 bdbd20 said at 11:08 PM on November 26th, 2012:

Um, you have a 240 lb QB and you run that play on 4th and inches. I give up, they’re obviously smarter than all of us.

  104. 104 BobSmith77 said at 11:11 PM on November 26th, 2012:

Of course Andy won’t give any kind of legit or honest response after the game on why he made that call there.

  105. 105 A_T_G said at 11:09 PM on November 26th, 2012:

Come on guys, a failed sneak and the comments would have been about not giving the ball to the guy with the record setting day. Just be glad we didn’t throw it.

  106. 106 shah8 said at 11:12 PM on November 26th, 2012:

I don’t think so. The critical, absolute critical issue with the Eagles over the last few years has been weak interior linemen. If we could rely on a line to get a push, then it wouldn’t be controversial at all to hand off to BB.

  107. 107 shah8 said at 11:13 PM on November 26th, 2012:

And even then, we could run on the left pretty good. No quality on the left side of the line now.

  143. 143 BobSmith77 said at 11:23 PM on November 26th, 2012:

Was Nnamdi even going to try to tackle on that Stewart run that got called back? More questionable effort by the defense in this game.

Penalties (lack of focus) and I would argue a clear lack of effort here in the 2nd half. What a pathetic display by the defense.

If we travel east and cross the dateline, it will be tomorrow night and we’ll be watching MNF. If we travel west, it will be yesterday and we won’t have suffered through this game. With this kind of logic, I expect to soon have a position on the Eagles staff.

The ‘Fire Reid Now’ will grow after the game and rightly so given what I thought was questionable effort by the defense tonight. Only reason Reid should stay is because of what he has done for the franchise.

  165. 165 Eagles_Fan_in_San_Fran said at 11:43 PM on November 26th, 2012:

  166. 166 Concussed FB said at 11:44 PM on November 26th, 2012:

Worth watching the post game show, Didinger looked to be a few moments from an epic meltdown on the loathsome Rendell.

  167. 167 ceteris_paribus1776 said at 11:44 PM on November 26th, 2012:

Why does everyone keep asking “what was the difference tonight…” I regard to Cam or Carolina in general when it was clear that the difference was playing a truly shitty opponent! One of the worst 5 teams in the league with KC, Oak, Cle & Jax

  168. 168 BobSmith77 said at 11:49 PM on November 26th, 2012:

Reid in the post-game conference acts like a professional in that he refuses to throw any body under the bus and take the onus on himself. Really difficult thing to do given the circumstances. He easily could lash out or be critical of some of his player’s mistakes tonight including the rookies.

I will disagree with him though that is team played with a ‘high energy level’ tonight including on defense.

  169. 169 Eagles_Fan_in_San_Fran said at 11:55 PM on November 26th, 2012:

It’s just the same recycled crap he’s shooting out once again.
And who’s he going to throw under the bus, anyway – he’s 100% responsible for this roster and team.

  170. 170 BobSmith77 said at 12:00 AM on November 27th, 2012:

He easily could have thrown Brown under the bus or the poor execution by his players. He didn’t.

Not saying the Reid deserves heaping praise for saying the same generic stuff. Just acting like a professional and keeping his demeanor in the spite of this debacle. That’s all.

  171. 171 mhrinda said at 12:05 AM on November 27th, 2012:

It gets old. Let his players take responsibility for constantly losing game after game after game…. him protecting his players has gone a little too far.

  172. 172 P_P_K said at 9:29 AM on November 27th, 2012:

I completely agree about Andy’s professionalism and integrity. Imagine how tough it must be to stand there and answer those questions knowing the fans are hanging “Fire Andy” banners and your career in the City is coming to an end. A lot of his rote answers certainly have gotten old, but the guy still acts like a leader in that he accepts the buck stops with him.

If Bryce Brown hadn’t fumbled twice that would have been a pretty epic first start for him. He does look like a legit talent though, good size/strength/speed and a surprising amount of elusiveness. If he can get ball security under control he has serious upside moving forward.

    RE: Fumbles and mental mistakes…

In an alternate universe where Bill Parcells was coaching this team, are there 11 players on either side of the ball that he would even put out there? Or would he have gone Norman Dale and played with 3 or 4 guys to prove a point?

  181. 181 BobSmith77 said at 12:33 AM on November 27th, 2012:

If Parcells was the GM/coach, he would make some changes after this game including moving Babin into a role as just a limited role player and not a starter for making that really stupid offsides penalty & his constant lack of gap and lane discipline.

  182. 182 BobSmith77 said at 12:31 AM on November 27th, 2012:

  183. 183 BobSmith77 said at 12:39 AM on November 27th, 2012:

Invested massive resources the past 2 offseasons to improve the defense and they have subsequently got a worse performance each season.

Besides Cox, Kendricks, and Cole, I don’t see any starters on this defense right now who have a good bet to be the starters in Week 1 next year. Not because Kendricks or Cole have played that well either but there are so many holes that they Eagles won’t be able to address them all.
