Barf. That word might sum up the 1st half better than any other.

I don’t mind losing, but I hate…HATE…sloppy mistakes.  You could fry an egg on my forehead right now.  This team has just about broken me.

Barf.

well….on the positive side, the redskins have not sustained any long drives on us. too bad they don’t need to

    oooh, Babin made a play!

  7. 7 TommyLawlor said at 2:43 PM on November 18th, 2012:

Babin played RDE, Cole LDE on that series. Babin with a sack. He’s done some good things today.

time to get the WRs involved…

  11. 11 TommyLawlor said at 2:48 PM on November 18th, 2012:

Good pass to Celek. Deep ball to DeSean was off target, maybe late. Nick has to work on the deep balls.

  12. 12 SteveH said at 2:48 PM on November 18th, 2012:

Negative plays just murdering our offense today.

  13. 13 GermanEagle said at 2:53 PM on November 18th, 2012:

  14. 14 TommyLawlor said at 2:53 PM on November 18th, 2012:

    No.

  15. 15 ACViking said at 2:54 PM on November 18th, 2012:

If the 1st series is any indicator, the Redskins will dial back the blitzing.

If the O-line could just pass block, and the RBs too, Foles will have a chance downfield.

  16. 16 ACViking said at 2:55 PM on November 18th, 2012:

Bobby April has done some good coaching w/ Henery . . . the guy’s become a TB machine.

  17. 17 eagles2zc said at 3:00 PM on November 18th, 2012:

Yep, good to see. I really doubted his kicking power at the beginning of the season

  18. 18 Corry Henry said at 2:56 PM on November 18th, 2012:

I stepped out to talk to my neighbor, and I’ll be honest, I’m shocked the score isn’t 30 to 3 at this point.

  20. 20 Corry Henry said at 3:00 PM on November 18th, 2012:

I think I’m tired of seeing our guys fall down and then take out another potential tackler.

It’s like watching vintage Randall Cunningham. In burgandy

  22. 22 BobSmith77 said at 3:02 PM on November 18th, 2012:

RQIII is interesting to watch but he has to develop considerably in the passing game to be a top 10 QB. Desperately needs a quality TE who he can rely upon.

Just two bad teams playing one another today which will be see a ton of personnel change next year on both sides of the ball.

I have been flipping back to the Boys-Brown game. Boys look like they simply going at less than 100%. I wouldn’t say tanking but man the effort has been questionable for them today.

NFC East is going to have 3 teams this year at 6-10 or worse. Far cry from the glory days of the late 80s/early 90s.

  23. 23 eagles2zc said at 3:03 PM on November 18th, 2012:

Fred Davis was going off until his injury, but yea RG3 needs some support cast

  24. 24 SteveH said at 3:02 PM on November 18th, 2012:

Redskins have such a shitty offense outside of RG3, if we hadn’t gifted them 10 points I’d be feeling real good right now.

  25. 25 phillychuck said at 3:03 PM on November 18th, 2012:

Is there some reason, something we’re doing wrong, that enables the other team’s offense to recover every time they fumble? Seriously, what the heck?

  26. 26 shah8 said at 3:03 PM on November 18th, 2012:

houston is getting beat by Jax. Henne, but Henne’s a pretty bad QB too.

  27. 27 shah8 said at 3:05 PM on November 18th, 2012:

Why do I give a bleep about houston!?!

  28. 28 ACViking said at 3:04 PM on November 18th, 2012:

On that 3rd down scramble by Griffin, F-Cox left his rush lane, spinning toward the middle of the field instead of just holding his ground. Created the lane for Griffin.

Anyone remember the 1990 Eagles-Skins’ playoff game? The Redskins’ D-line maintained incredible rush-lane discipline. Randall had no where to go.

Have to play Griffin that way.

  29. 29 TommyLawlor said at 3:05 PM on November 18th, 2012:

  37. 37 phillychuck said at 3:06 PM on November 18th, 2012:

Un-freaking-believable. How can you let a midget catch that ball? They need to cut Coleman.

  38. 38 BobSmith77 said at 3:26 PM on November 18th, 2012:

He isn’t a starting caliber player and what wrongs me the wrong way about him is the lack of discipline and foolish demeanor he has on the field.

He’s far from the biggest problem on this team but this is the 3rd consecutive year where the safeties have been average/abysmal depending upon the game.

  39. 39 eagles2zc said at 3:06 PM on November 18th, 2012:

It’s not enough to get trucked by RBs, Coleman is getting manhandled by WRs now too

  40. 40 TommyLawlor said at 3:06 PM on November 18th, 2012:

He lost his footing on the play.

  41. 41 phillychuck said at 3:08 PM on November 18th, 2012:

Losing your footing is not an excuse for a defender. You have to be coordinated enough NOT to lose your footing. That’s your job.

  42. 42 Corry Henry said at 3:08 PM on November 18th, 2012:

I swear they’re always losing their footing, or tripping, or slipping, or falling down and taking out other potential blockers or tacklers. Ridiculous

  43. 43 ToastJenkins said at 3:09 PM on November 18th, 2012:

watch the replay Tommy. Moss’s left hand tugged his jersey and thats what got him. still inexcusably bad play.

  44. 44 eagles2zc said at 3:07 PM on November 18th, 2012:

  46. 46 ACViking said at 3:06 PM on November 18th, 2012:

  52. 52 SleepingDuck said at 3:28 PM on November 18th, 2012:

  55. 55 ToastJenkins said at 3:14 PM on November 18th, 2012:

I would argue Cole. I think he’ll be better once his Babinitis flare up passes. DRC maybe b/c if you sitch both corners its just too much turnover i fear

there’s a weekly dose of Tapp idiocy

  60. 60 phillychuck said at 3:15 PM on November 18th, 2012:

Late hit there is a terrible call. It was a microsecond after he went down, and Tapp braced himself so he didn’t hit him hard.

  61. 61 TommyLawlor said at 3:15 PM on November 18th, 2012:

Tapp has done stuff like that before. Has to know he can’t hit the QB. Dumb.

  62. 62 BobSmith77 said at 3:29 PM on November 18th, 2012:

He sucks. He contributes on the stat sheet in a meaningful way 2-3 games a year and the rest of the season is a non-factor.

  63. 63 shah8 said at 3:16 PM on November 18th, 2012:

What’s weird to me is that RG3 is clearly a better QB than Sam Bradford.

  64. 64 ACViking said at 3:17 PM on November 18th, 2012:

  70. 70 eagles2zc said at 3:26 PM on November 18th, 2012:

  71. 71 SteveH said at 3:22 PM on November 18th, 2012:

  72. 72 SteveH said at 3:25 PM on November 18th, 2012:

  73. 73 Corry Henry said at 3:25 PM on November 18th, 2012:

    Worse.

  76. 76 shah8 said at 3:27 PM on November 18th, 2012:

    yup.

  77. 77 eagles2zc said at 3:29 PM on November 18th, 2012:

Another INT tipped by Celek, returned for TD. 2 long TD throws by RG3

  78. 78 shah8 said at 3:29 PM on November 18th, 2012:

The OL is the same as it always has been. Most of the positive plays have been from good screen passes. Defense plays well, mostly, but safety mistakes account for 14 of 24 points. A pair of turnovers account for the other 10. If RG3 had to drive all the way through for points, we might be winning. Probably not.

  79. 79 A_T_G said at 3:31 PM on November 18th, 2012:

Thanks. I guess it is good to see we didn’t develop a bunch of new problems…

    Bring back Sean McDermott!

  84. 84 Mac said at 3:30 PM on November 18th, 2012:

  89. 89 ACViking said at 3:32 PM on November 18th, 2012:

    Post-game . . . Note to self.

    QUESTION FOR T-LAW:

Does Howie Roseman deserve to stay on with any *final* authority in the personnel area?

Or have is an Atom Bomb needed for the Eagles?

  90. 90 Cafone said at 3:34 PM on November 18th, 2012:

    Another question for T-LAW:

How badly is Andy Reid hurting his reputation in terms of future NFL employment? The “If we fire Andy Reid, teams would be lining up to hire him” thing may not be so true anymore.

  91. 91 BobSmith77 said at 3:42 PM on November 18th, 2012:

  92. 92 47_Ronin said at 4:07 PM on November 18th, 2012:

  94. 94 eagles2zc said at 3:33 PM on November 18th, 2012:

Redskins are attacking the outside, and Eagles can’t stop them

  95. 95 BobSmith77 said at 3:33 PM on November 18th, 2012:

What is frustrating to watch is the Eagles wasting the skill talent they have this year because their offensive line is so wretched. It wasn’t the QB as much as this O-line. Vick/Cunningham in their primes might have made some plays with their legs on long scrambles or broken plays but that is about the only kind of QB who would last. Even a Brady/Manning would get struggle to get the ball out in time especially given how pathetic this line has been against extra pressure today.

  96. 96 ACViking said at 3:37 PM on November 18th, 2012:

    Don’t agree about Manning.

The Colts’ O-line last year was the line that played in front of Manning.

Like Brady, Manning’s pre-snap reads are so good that he compensated for the lack of talent (and the scheme?) up front.

Manning used to shred Jim Johnson’s defenses.

Remarkably, Sean McDermott was able to confound Manning in 2010 in an Eagles victory.

    WOW . . . that’s SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO long ago.

  97. 97 BobSmith77 said at 3:48 PM on November 18th, 2012:

Been pressure up the middle almost all day today and that is something that Manning has had real problems with the past few years as his mobility waned a bit. Even he would have struggled today with the nonexistant ground game and pressure that would have forced him to roll out of the pocket to his left or right on a regular basis.

  98. 98 47_Ronin said at 4:04 PM on November 18th, 2012:

Where is the “skill talent” (besides McCoy) that is being wasted?

  103. 103 ACViking said at 3:34 PM on November 18th, 2012:

  112. 112 ToastJenkins said at 3:40 PM on November 18th, 2012:

can you expect a rookie in his first start to be ‘very good’? he looks like a rookie on a horrible team. what we need to see is improvement

  113. 113 Corry Henry said at 3:40 PM on November 18th, 2012:

Is it Foles or are his receivers not doing anything for him? Not defending him because he has not been good, but it seems like no one is stepping up to help him out.

  114. 114 BobSmith77 said at 3:46 PM on November 18th, 2012:

It is like giving a chef ground chuck and expecting a filet. He’s made a few more really bad mistakes which haven’t helped but this OL has been so bad today it’s hard to say how much it has been Foles.

Give him him a C- through these first 2 games. Barely passable. Maybe even a D if you were being tough.

  115. 115 shah8 said at 3:48 PM on November 18th, 2012:

He’s had, I think, 3 passes where he made reads and completed them for decent yardage. He’s a third round rookie. This isn’t a surprise.

  116. 116 Corry Henry said at 3:38 PM on November 18th, 2012:

Everyone keeps saying that Lurie owes it to Reid to let him finish out the season. I disagree. Lurie owes it to him to fire him now. It would be the merciful thing to do.

  121. 121 BobSmith77 said at 3:41 PM on November 18th, 2012:

The effort in the 2nd half today reminds me of the Seahawks game last year on the road.

They quit late in the 2nd half of the game game last year and I would argue they have done the same here today. Simply don’t see several guys on defense even trying to get up field at the point of attack and make sound tackles.

It’s pathetic in a game that still means something where you have veteran players easing up.

Reid is officially a lame duck coach after today and the players have begun to tune him out.

  122. 122 phillychuck said at 3:41 PM on November 18th, 2012:

I’m starting to agree with those who say fire Reid now for his own good. He’s meant too much to the city to have to talk to the press after a game like this one.

  178. 178 austinfan said at 4:32 PM on November 18th, 2012:

Foles so far doesn’t look like a NFL QB. Sloppy mechanics, lots of bad throws. But the draft doesn’t look good, I don’t see a QB I’d use a top 10 pick on, and the way things are going, we’re looking at 4-12 and pick #5 or 6 or so. Maybe trade back into the 1st rd late or take the best QB in the early 2nd rd.

Time to cut some veterans and raid practice squads for potential players. I mean the season is over, no chance of the playoffs, Reid is gone, time to evaluate players for 2013 – if I’m Lurie, I’m telling Reid that is what he’s paid for the rest of the season, and if a veteran dogs, Howie should cut him and find a young player who wants a shot.

    It’s 1998 all over again.

  179. 179 47_Ronin said at 4:42 PM on November 18th, 2012:

Howie’s fingerprints are on the current roster, why do you believe Lurie should trust him in finding “talent” for 2013? Among other evaluation problems, Howie couldn’t find a Safety to replace Coleman.

  180. 180 eagles2zc said at 4:45 PM on November 18th, 2012:

The thing is, I have no idea who exactly is in charge of personnel decisions. Reid, as we all know, has a lot of control over the organization. Howie has done a great job with trades and contracts

  181. 181 47_Ronin said at 4:50 PM on November 18th, 2012:

Tommy can probably shed more light, but I Reid has stated that he has “final” say on draft picks. I think Roseman and the scouts have the primary responsibility of targeting/generating lists of players to pursue.

  182. 182 austinfan said at 6:13 PM on November 18th, 2012:

Tell me about all the safeties out there, there are 3 safeties starting out of the draft, Barron (top pick), Smith (late 1st), McMillan. Howie brought in Atogwe, the best veteran available. Anyway, I think our safeties problems have more to do with scheme, when both young safeties regress, it’s probably the coaching.

Now if you want to knock Howie, it should be for missed opportunities in 2010 (not JPP, that’s hindsight, but I wanted Bowman and Graham), and just blowing chunks in a thin 2011 draft. But he had a great 2012 draft, and has found guys like Thornton. How much of his mishaps are his fault or Andy’s fault remained to be discovered.

  183. 183 47_Ronin said at 7:22 PM on November 18th, 2012:

I think Yeremiah Bell was the best veteran FA safety in 2012, there were significant injury issues with Atogwe that limited his FA interest. Tavon Wilson appears to have been elevated to starter with the Pats and Corey White was switched to CB by the Saints and has started several games.

But anyway, I agree some of the problems with the safeties is scheme, but a good deal has to do with lack of ability. I’ve watched several instances (including today) of Coleman simply losing the physical battle with the ball carrier and not being able to make the tackle. If a team wants to improve the play at a position they will bring in competition, and I don’t think the Eagles were serious about improving the play at safety.

Roseman has only been GM for 3 drafts, by my count it is too early to judge 2012 and 2011, but 2010 is not looking good.

I feel like a bad fan.

I had no expectation of a win today, so I am more in a head shaking mood than depression.

Honestly, this has me a bit excited for the offseason. Each time this team proves our fears well founded, it further cements that this offseason will be interesting in a way we haven’t had for a decade and a half.

It might turn out to be a long road back to relevance, but I’m excited to begin the journey.

  185. 185 Iskar36 said at 5:34 PM on November 18th, 2012:

I would be excited about the offseason if I thought we could make enough changes, but I can’t help but feel we have waaaaaaay to many holes to make us legitimate contenders next year. To me, these are the positions you have to consider upgrading:

    1. Head Coach
    2. Defensive Coordinator
    3. Offensive Coordinator
    4. Special Teams Coordinator
    5. Several of the positional coaches

    6. QB (not ready to throw the towel in on Foles by any means, but he couldn’t have had much worse of a debut)
    7. RT
    8. RG
    9. Hope Peters comes back 100%
    10. At least a 3rd WR and that assumes Maclin is just having a down year

    11. Hope, pray, and beg that both Babin and Cole are just having down years
    12. One if not two CBs (Nnamdi should be gone next season, but because DRC has made it hard to give him an extension, might be safe because it would be hard to replace two CBs)
    13. SS to replace Coleman.

To me, that is just too many holes to fix and expect to have successful results in one offseason. I just hope that the Eagles recognize that and go into rebuild mode rather than try to go for the quick fixes and waste resources on FAs and/or trades that do not help us long term.
