WAS 17, PHI 3 – 2nd Half Thread

I don’t mind losing, but I hate…HATE…sloppy mistakes. You could fry an egg on my forehead right now. This team has just about broken me.
Barf.
2nd half… new beginning!!!!!
U mean new ending???
well….on the positive side, the redskins have not sustained any long drives on us. too bad they don’t need to
this reminds me of our last 3-13 season….
Think the Redskins are already trying to run out the clock?
oooh, Babin made a play!
Babin played RDE, Cole LDE on that series. Babin with a sack. He’s done some good things today.
time to get the WRs involved…
Such a great idea to run the ball out of the shotgun
Oh boy, ‘skins starting safety out, Marty is going to call bombs now
Good pass to Celek. Deep ball to DeSean was off target, maybe late. Nick has to work on the deep balls.
Negative plays just murdering our offense today.
would we win this game with Vick?
No.
If the 1st series is any indicator, the Redskins will dial back the blitzing.
If the O-line could just pass block, and the RBs too, Foles will have a chance downfield.
Bobby April has done some good coaching w/ Henery . . . the guy’s become a TB machine.
Yep, good to see. I really doubted his kicking power at the beginning of the season
I stepped out to talk to my neighbor, and I’ll be honest, I’m shocked the score isn’t 30 to 3 at this point.
When will a ball take an Eagles bounce?
I think I’m tired of seeing our guys fall down and then take out another potential tackler.
It’s like watching vintage Randall Cunningham. In burgandy
RQIII is interesting to watch but he has to develop considerably in the passing game to be a top 10 QB. Desperately needs a quality TE who he can rely upon.
Just two bad teams playing one another today which will be see a ton of personnel change next year on both sides of the ball.
I have been flipping back to the Boys-Brown game. Boys look like they simply going at less than 100%. I wouldn’t say tanking but man the effort has been questionable for them today.
NFC East is going to have 3 teams this year at 6-10 or worse. Far cry from the glory days of the late 80s/early 90s.
Fred Davis was going off until his injury, but yea RG3 needs some support cast
Redskins have such a shitty offense outside of RG3, if we hadn’t gifted them 10 points I’d be feeling real good right now.
Is there some reason, something we’re doing wrong, that enables the other team’s offense to recover every time they fumble? Seriously, what the heck?
houston is getting beat by Jax. Henne, but Henne’s a pretty bad QB too.
Why do I give a bleep about houston!?!
On that 3rd down scramble by Griffin, F-Cox left his rush lane, spinning toward the middle of the field instead of just holding his ground. Created the lane for Griffin.
Anyone remember the 1990 Eagles-Skins’ playoff game? The Redskins’ D-line maintained incredible rush-lane discipline. Randall had no where to go.
Have to play Griffin that way.
This team is not disciplined. At all.
my kingdom for a safety…
Seriously?
I feel like the Eagles just shit in my mouth.
replay looked like Moss had Coleman’s jersey. savvy vet play
This team makes me want to shoot myself in the head.
So depressing.
Hope Reid takes Kurt Coleman with him…for fucks sake what a joke
Un-freaking-believable. How can you let a midget catch that ball? They need to cut Coleman.
He isn’t a starting caliber player and what wrongs me the wrong way about him is the lack of discipline and foolish demeanor he has on the field.
He’s far from the biggest problem on this team but this is the 3rd consecutive year where the safeties have been average/abysmal depending upon the game.
It’s not enough to get trucked by RBs, Coleman is getting manhandled by WRs now too
He lost his footing on the play.
Losing your footing is not an excuse for a defender. You have to be coordinated enough NOT to lose your footing. That’s your job.
I swear they’re always losing their footing, or tripping, or slipping, or falling down and taking out other potential blockers or tacklers. Ridiculous
watch the replay Tommy. Moss’s left hand tugged his jersey and thats what got him. still inexcusably bad play.
Also, that play just made me realize how slow he is
Coleman has no business being anything but a special teamer
Can we now put Philip Thomas on the active roster and move Coleman to special teams.
This roster is NOT talented. NOT. NOT. NOT
You know, there haven’t been enough of the “Fire Washburn!” torches and pitchforks…
So that’s my hope lost for this season I think…. and could they maybe bring in someone to teach them how to tackle, I know Demeco can but be nice if someone else tried as well
I think I might start smoking because of the Eagles.
is there a chance that Geno smith drops to 3OVR?!
why? so we can continue our epic dynasty built on QBs than can run but cant pass?
Eagles currently have the 7th or 8th pick right now.
We’ve seen that sack before…
Besides Cox, Ryans, and Kendricks, who on this defense is a MUST-KEEP?
I would argue Cole. I think he’ll be better once his Babinitis flare up passes. DRC maybe b/c if you sitch both corners its just too much turnover i fear
Save that question for after the game.
T-Law:
I know you didn’t mean it, but your statement is laced with irony.
DRC, Graham, Thornton, Allen, Boykin, Marsh, Hughes, Curry, Hunt
there’s a weekly dose of Tapp idiocy
Late hit there is a terrible call. It was a microsecond after he went down, and Tapp braced himself so he didn’t hit him hard.
Tapp has done stuff like that before. Has to know he can’t hit the QB. Dumb.
He sucks. He contributes on the stat sheet in a meaningful way 2-3 games a year and the rest of the season is a non-factor.
What’s weird to me is that RG3 is clearly a better QB than Sam Bradford.
PREDICTION . . .
The next home game will have many, many empty seats at kick-off.
Jeff Lurie will get the message in his pocketbook.
I think you are right about this. Apathy is beginning to set in.
“If this wasnt friggen astroturf, I’d dig a grave for myself…”
If this season proves anything, it’s how crucial Tra Thomas and Jon Runyon were to Reid’s long run of success.
Don’t forget JJ
No question . . . JJ was the key to keeping in every game.
I’m just thinking about the offense.
I get what you’re saying. Offense looking a lot worse than D right now
Yaaaay… Meaningless 4th down stand.
We need to throw down the field, they’re squatting everything underneath.
Maclin laying in a fetal position after that drop kind of sums up the season for me.
So, I was at a Cub Scout thing. Is it as bad as it appears from the box score?
Worse.
yup.
Another INT tipped by Celek, returned for TD. 2 long TD throws by RG3
The OL is the same as it always has been. Most of the positive plays have been from good screen passes. Defense plays well, mostly, but safety mistakes account for 14 of 24 points. A pair of turnovers account for the other 10. If RG3 had to drive all the way through for points, we might be winning. Probably not.
Thanks. I guess it is good to see we didn’t develop a bunch of new problems…
As a lifelong dieheart eagle fan this season has taken a few years off my life… I am done with this season and am looking for a high spot in the draft now…. Hear this is a weak OL & QB draft class is this true????… Lets hear some draft talk Tommy!!
Was Juan Castillo really so much better than I thought?
I’ve been wondering the same thing.
Bring back Sean McDermott!
I think we need to draft a punter since punting is such a big part of our gameplan.
Coleman with another tremendous play….oiy
Even Reese/Quick seen a bit forlorn today in the 2nd half.
We need to hire Standford’s head coach…at least the team would be gap disciplined…..
Can we possibly set the edge?
Post-game . . . Note to self.
QUESTION FOR T-LAW:
Does Howie Roseman deserve to stay on with any *final* authority in the personnel area?
Or have is an Atom Bomb needed for the Eagles?
Another question for T-LAW:
How badly is Andy Reid hurting his reputation in terms of future NFL employment? The “If we fire Andy Reid, teams would be lining up to hire him” thing may not be so true anymore.
A-bomb is needed and I think you will see it.
RE: Roseman question.
After this game does that question become rhetorical.
Team quitting now. Just protecting themselves.
Redskins are attacking the outside, and Eagles can’t stop them
What is frustrating to watch is the Eagles wasting the skill talent they have this year because their offensive line is so wretched. It wasn’t the QB as much as this O-line. Vick/Cunningham in their primes might have made some plays with their legs on long scrambles or broken plays but that is about the only kind of QB who would last. Even a Brady/Manning would get struggle to get the ball out in time especially given how pathetic this line has been against extra pressure today.
Don’t agree about Manning.
The Colts’ O-line last year was the line that played in front of Manning.
Like Brady, Manning’s pre-snap reads are so good that he compensated for the lack of talent (and the scheme?) up front.
Manning used to shred Jim Johnson’s defenses.
Remarkably, Sean McDermott was able to confound Manning in 2010 in an Eagles victory.
WOW . . . that’s SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO long ago.
Been pressure up the middle almost all day today and that is something that Manning has had real problems with the past few years as his mobility waned a bit. Even he would have struggled today with the nonexistant ground game and pressure that would have forced him to roll out of the pocket to his left or right on a regular basis.
Where is the “skill talent” (besides McCoy) that is being wasted?
/me sheds tears…
Just cut the whole fuckin’ team now.
Complete lack of professional pride. No guts, no heart, no cajones.
Kurt Coleman… The man who said this years defense might be the best eagles defense of all time everybody.
Please . . . I really want to see Philip Thomas at Safety.
Can’t be worse than Coleman . . . who’s an example of a good college player.
You’ll see Sims before Thomas. Bad day for Kurt.
I think Kurt was surprised to actually be in position for once to make a play on the hail mary. He didn’t know what to do.
This is not a professional team.
Can we officially start talking about potential head coaching candidates?
Merrill: “This might just be the lowlight of the Andy Reid era”
Let’s hope so, Merrill, lets hope so…
still more games to play….we haven’t seen the depths of the eagles suckiness yet.
The rumbling are starting?!
Foles isn’t very good. Can throw check downs and screens, nothing else.
can you expect a rookie in his first start to be ‘very good’? he looks like a rookie on a horrible team. what we need to see is improvement
Is it Foles or are his receivers not doing anything for him? Not defending him because he has not been good, but it seems like no one is stepping up to help him out.
It is like giving a chef ground chuck and expecting a filet. He’s made a few more really bad mistakes which haven’t helped but this OL has been so bad today it’s hard to say how much it has been Foles.
Give him him a C- through these first 2 games. Barely passable. Maybe even a D if you were being tough.
He’s had, I think, 3 passes where he made reads and completed them for decent yardage. He’s a third round rookie. This isn’t a surprise.
Everyone keeps saying that Lurie owes it to Reid to let him finish out the season. I disagree. Lurie owes it to him to fire him now. It would be the merciful thing to do.
Maclin has more complaints per game than he does catches….
Jeremy Maclin leads the league in pouting after an incomplete pass.
Pro Bowl level.
Watch out Maclin might log into this blog and type lol.
The effort in the 2nd half today reminds me of the Seahawks game last year on the road.
They quit late in the 2nd half of the game game last year and I would argue they have done the same here today. Simply don’t see several guys on defense even trying to get up field at the point of attack and make sound tackles.
It’s pathetic in a game that still means something where you have veteran players easing up.
Reid is officially a lame duck coach after today and the players have begun to tune him out.
I’m starting to agree with those who say fire Reid now for his own good. He’s meant too much to the city to have to talk to the press after a game like this one.
You need to do what is best for the team, not what is best for Andy Reid. Who they hell are they going to get to interim coach this mess?
Well, one take away: the people who kept saying Foles couldn’t survive the beating this line allows seem to be wrong. He pops back up before the camera can show him on the ground.
That’s the kind of optimism we need.
Give it a few more possessions
Merrill Reese: “If Mike Shanahan is a decent human being, he will not challenge this”
lol 🙂
I got nothin’. Just flabbergasted…playing like a bad HS team.
Reid ran up 59 points on the Redskins 2 years ago . . . just TWO years ago.
1. Shanny hasn’t forgotten.
2. It was just 2 years ago.
As Vince Lombardi would have said about this team . . . “What the hell’s goin’ on out there”?!
Shanahan’s jealous. He got fired from Denver after taking the team to the playoffs. Reid went 8-8 last year and was not fired
This is just painful to watch.
Remember how we used to complain about wasted timeouts?
T-Law:
Here’s a post-game question (so no need to answer . . . yet):
“Now what do we do?”
Drugs. Lots of drugs.
only thing that matters the rest of the way is Foles. it all rides on his progress. otherwise just get young guys like marsh and boykin more time
Did I just hear that shit right? ONE INCOMPLETE PASS?!
How many times have the Eagles been blown out this year?
It used to be that the Eagles would lay an egg once per year (2004 Steelers game).
Now, it’s almost every other week.
Maybe — as M0rton liked to say (and many others) — the Eagles’ success during the Reid/McNabb era was all about Jim Johnson’s ability to keep opponents at or under 17 points
I think this is the last game of the year that I’ll watch. I can’t take this anymore.
This has to be the biggest beatdown in DC by the Skins on the Eagles in quite some time. Don’t remember the last time the Eagles were routed so thoroughly and completely here.
1986 opening day
41-14
At what point should the team should start tanking games for draft position?
I don’t think we need to try to start tanking
Touche.
I’m guessing Marcus Vick wants to say “I told you so” to his twitter community
Marcus Vick, the voice of reason.
Why is Foles throwing *Worm-burners*?
Foles is just flat out awful.. Please don’t tell me he’s our future!!
I’m surprised he’s still standing.
I don’t know that you can throw in the towel on Foles just yet, but I will agree, I’m not sure he could have had a much worse debut than the one he had today. Unless there is a very dramatic turn around from Foles the rest of the season, we are looking at drafting a QB early next season.
In DC
2011: W, 20-13
2010: W, 59-28
2009: W, 27-17
2008: L, 10-3
2007: W, 33-25
2006: W, 21-19
2005: L, 17-10
2004: W, 17-14
2003: W, 31-7
2002: W, 37-7
2001: W, 20-6
2000: W, 23-20
1999: L, 20-17 OT
By far the worst loss in DC during Reid’s tenure here and it isn’t even close.
It was ’98 the last time the Skins beat the Eagles so handily in DC (28-3). Dropped the Eagles to 2-8.
Hoying was 15-31 for 110 yards and 2 INTs.
History doesn’t really repeat itself but it often rhymes alot.
i was just wondering wtf Shady was still doing in this game….
Why is lesean McCoy still in the game? Andy Reid cannot be fired soon enough.
Dumb. Brown should be out there.
I’m now on board. Fire Andy now. Having McCoy out there is inexcusable.
Yep. You split touches between the two in the beginning, but when the game is out of hand you still play Shady?
Yesterday i fell down a flight of stairs. That was more fun than watching this game.
Just like those drops at Six Flags, really…
This is more like a visit to an oral surgeon.
Ah yes, the only bad kind of oral…
Matt Ryan has 5 interceptions today. What the hell is wrong with that boy?
overrated for one thing
Well, I always knew that. I caught the end of that game, and they showed replays. Arizona played them like they did Eagles. If they had a quarterback, any quarterback, they’d have won.
Finally, a down field throw on a free play.
At least the Cowgirls are loosing now
I defended Foles during the week leading up to the game, but after today I don’t think I can really defend him. He just doesn’t look good. I am very glass is half empty.
a drop on 4th down is somehow fitting
So who had the over on 40 throws?
We thought we had something there.
I recorded the game.
Thank you guys for the posts. I will now go nail my eye lids to a 2×4. I suspect it will be more enjoyable than watching this POS.
And I thought the end of the Rhodes era sucked….
what a BS flag in the cowboys game….
This team just flat out stinks. They were terribly put together at depth on the Oline, still lack any talent at safety, lost all pass rush from the vets, and don’t have a QB, and have a coaching staff that refuses to help its players out. What a sad, sad team.
to all the posters who didn’t like my “the Eagles have won the last game of the Andy Reid era” comment the week before the bye, you can now bow at my feet.
the smell of the dead Eagle carcass is overwhelming.
Really? We might not do anything this year, but you’re really saying that in 6 games we wont win a game? Thats not the NFL i know. I suggest you call Vegas and make the bet, that might give you a good bang for you’re buck since you’re that sure.
Slow clap.
Well played Sir!
Foles so far doesn’t look like a NFL QB. Sloppy mechanics, lots of bad throws. But the draft doesn’t look good, I don’t see a QB I’d use a top 10 pick on, and the way things are going, we’re looking at 4-12 and pick #5 or 6 or so. Maybe trade back into the 1st rd late or take the best QB in the early 2nd rd.
Time to cut some veterans and raid practice squads for potential players. I mean the season is over, no chance of the playoffs, Reid is gone, time to evaluate players for 2013 – if I’m Lurie, I’m telling Reid that is what he’s paid for the rest of the season, and if a veteran dogs, Howie should cut him and find a young player who wants a shot.
It’s 1998 all over again.
Howie’s fingerprints are on the current roster, why do you believe Lurie should trust him in finding “talent” for 2013? Among other evaluation problems, Howie couldn’t find a Safety to replace Coleman.
The thing is, I have no idea who exactly is in charge of personnel decisions. Reid, as we all know, has a lot of control over the organization. Howie has done a great job with trades and contracts
Tommy can probably shed more light, but I Reid has stated that he has “final” say on draft picks. I think Roseman and the scouts have the primary responsibility of targeting/generating lists of players to pursue.
Tell me about all the safeties out there, there are 3 safeties starting out of the draft, Barron (top pick), Smith (late 1st), McMillan. Howie brought in Atogwe, the best veteran available. Anyway, I think our safeties problems have more to do with scheme, when both young safeties regress, it’s probably the coaching.
Now if you want to knock Howie, it should be for missed opportunities in 2010 (not JPP, that’s hindsight, but I wanted Bowman and Graham), and just blowing chunks in a thin 2011 draft. But he had a great 2012 draft, and has found guys like Thornton. How much of his mishaps are his fault or Andy’s fault remained to be discovered.
I think Yeremiah Bell was the best veteran FA safety in 2012, there were significant injury issues with Atogwe that limited his FA interest. Tavon Wilson appears to have been elevated to starter with the Pats and Corey White was switched to CB by the Saints and has started several games.
But anyway, I agree some of the problems with the safeties is scheme, but a good deal has to do with lack of ability. I’ve watched several instances (including today) of Coleman simply losing the physical battle with the ball carrier and not being able to make the tackle. If a team wants to improve the play at a position they will bring in competition, and I don’t think the Eagles were serious about improving the play at safety.
Roseman has only been GM for 3 drafts, by my count it is too early to judge 2012 and 2011, but 2010 is not looking good.
I feel like a bad fan.
I had no expectation of a win today, so I am more in a head shaking mood than depression.
Honestly, this has me a bit excited for the offseason. Each time this team proves our fears well founded, it further cements that this offseason will be interesting in a way we haven’t had for a decade and a half.
It might turn out to be a long road back to relevance, but I’m excited to begin the journey.
I would be excited about the offseason if I thought we could make enough changes, but I can’t help but feel we have waaaaaaay to many holes to make us legitimate contenders next year. To me, these are the positions you have to consider upgrading:
1. Head Coach
2. Defensive Coordinator
3. Offensive Coordinator
4. Special Teams Coordinator
5. Several of the positional coaches
6. QB (not ready to throw the towel in on Foles by any means, but he couldn’t have had much worse of a debut)
7. RT
8. RG
9. Hope Peters comes back 100%
10. At least a 3rd WR and that assumes Maclin is just having a down year
11. Hope, pray, and beg that both Babin and Cole are just having down years
12. One if not two CBs (Nnamdi should be gone next season, but because DRC has made it hard to give him an extension, might be safe because it would be hard to replace two CBs)
13. SS to replace Coleman.
To me, that is just too many holes to fix and expect to have successful results in one offseason. I just hope that the Eagles recognize that and go into rebuild mode rather than try to go for the quick fixes and waste resources on FAs and/or trades that do not help us long term.
1 through 5 should get taken care of with a new HC. New HC generally at least means a whole new staff.
