CIN at PHI – 1st Half

Posted: December 13th, 2012 | Author: | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 135 Comments »

The Thrilla in Philla will be starting in less than an hour.  I am beyond giddy.  Or something like that.

Key question for tonight:  does Speedy Foles run for more yards or throw for more?  Or does he become the first guy in NFL history with 300 on the ground and in the air?  Never doubt St. Nick this close to Christmas.

I was out today and missed some questions.  I’ll answer them tonight or tomorrow morning.

Tommy, you nearly gave me a heart attack posting this so much more early than usual. I’m still prepping for the game.

  2. 2 the guy said at 7:31 PM on December 13th, 2012:

Ah, “prepping”. The problem with drinking enough to make Eagles games enjoyable is you tend to go blind first.

My hat to you sir for this laugh.

holy ish this team can’t make plays for anything

  15. 15 Iskar36 said at 8:35 PM on December 13th, 2012:

Well, that was a bad start…

  16. 16 Neil said at 8:36 PM on December 13th, 2012:

One possibility is that the dbs think it’s a good idea to try to rip the ball out rather than tackle because they practice against our offense.

  17. 17 bdbd20 said at 8:36 PM on December 13th, 2012:

Good draft position awareness there by Maclin. Nice job of taking one for the team.

    hahaha

  20. 20 ceteris_paribus1776 said at 8:38 PM on December 13th, 2012:

to be honest, the only thing I’m looking for is the play of foles, Brown, Curry, and Graham. Other than that the rest of the young guys are vying to be role players i.e. kelly, marsh or going to start anyway in the case of Cox and Kendricks. I want to see if DE needs to be thought about this off-season and if Brown can bounce back and protect the ball. Obviously the play of Foles is vital

    30 give aways this year!

  22. 22 BobSmith77 said at 8:40 PM on December 13th, 2012:

Now outscoured 82-24 in the 1st quarter this year. Merrill was right with his ‘downright embarrassing’ call.

what an awful match-up Harbor on Hall

  24. 24 BobSmith77 said at 8:41 PM on December 13th, 2012:

Booooo!!!!! I won’t mind seeing Aprile somewhere else next year either. Special teams have varied from below average to bad this year.

  25. 25 ceteris_paribus1776 said at 8:42 PM on December 13th, 2012:

LOL. That’s all you can do with this team

Wow just wow i think this team is checking out

Boo them. I demand all 17 fans in the stands boo them.

  31. 31 the guy said at 8:43 PM on December 13th, 2012:

Even if you think Nick Foles is, at best, a career backup, he’s still too good for this team.

  32. 32 BobSmith77 said at 8:43 PM on December 13th, 2012:

How is it possible that this team in almost every game this year comes and is lethargic and plays in a haze in almost all 3 phases of the game?

  33. 33 P_P_K said at 8:45 PM on December 13th, 2012:

I’m glad this game is on Nat’l tv so I don’t have to explain my depression to my out-of-town buddies.

  35. 35 DamonL86 said at 8:47 PM on December 13th, 2012:

I have a feeling we are gonna turn it around right here.

  36. 36 bdbd20 said at 8:55 PM on December 13th, 2012:

No fears, that will go away

  37. 37 xeynon said at 8:47 PM on December 13th, 2012:

This ought to put to rest the fears of anyone who thinks Andy Reid can somehow save his job. This team is a disorganized, undisciplined mess just like the final Ray Rhodes and Rich Kotite teams. It’s clear that he’s lost the ability to run a tight ship.

I’d like to see a Parcells-type hardass as the next coach, honestly. These guys are playing soft and stupid, and they need someone who will hold them accountable.

  38. 38 Eagles_Fan_in_San_Fran said at 8:52 PM on December 13th, 2012:

Mike Silver of Yahoo Sports just published a column today about how Reid still has this team playing hard – what a f-ing joke!

  39. 39 BobSmith77 said at 9:03 PM on December 13th, 2012:

Saw that and kind of laughed. They played hard last week but guess he hadn’t watched the last couple of games before that one.

  40. 40 Noah D. said at 8:48 PM on December 13th, 2012:

If you don’t laugh, you’ll cry.

  41. 41 BobSmith77 said at 8:50 PM on December 13th, 2012:

Bengals DL is already dominating the line so far.

  42. 42 the guy said at 8:56 PM on December 13th, 2012:

If he thinks that wasn’t pass interference or holding, Mike Mayock needs to have his eyes checked.

You can’t stop Ben-Jarvus Ellis. You can only hope to contain him.

  45. 45 Iskar36 said at 9:03 PM on December 13th, 2012:

Anderson may have just made the best play by one of our safeties all season. And I actually may not e joking.

  46. 46 bdbd20 said at 9:04 PM on December 13th, 2012:

    Colt Anderson = Quentin Mikell?

  47. 47 P_P_K said at 9:04 PM on December 13th, 2012:

Great play by Colt. Green usually brings those down.

  48. 48 Daniel said at 9:04 PM on December 13th, 2012:

So allergic to the big play.

  49. 49 Iskar36 said at 9:05 PM on December 13th, 2012:

  53. 53 eagles2zc said at 9:09 PM on December 13th, 2012:

Was that suppose to be a delayed handoff or just botched play?

  54. 54 shah8 said at 9:10 PM on December 13th, 2012:

    OL is CRAP, runblocking-wise

  55. 55 P_P_K said at 9:11 PM on December 13th, 2012:

    Hey, don’t be insulting crap.

  56. 56 DamonL86 said at 9:10 PM on December 13th, 2012:

    Stellar run blocking

  57. 57 Iskar36 said at 9:11 PM on December 13th, 2012:

Not a fan of Foles tossing it up like that off his back foot. Ended up nowhere near anyone, but still risky.

  58. 58 ceteris_paribus1776 said at 9:12 PM on December 13th, 2012:

I think that was the point of the throw, to be nowhere near anyone…NFL QBs should be able to do that.

  59. 59 Iskar36 said at 9:15 PM on December 13th, 2012:

Throw it out of bounds then, not in the field.

  60. 60 shah8 said at 9:17 PM on December 13th, 2012:

had to be credible attempt, QB not out of hashes…

  61. 61 ceteris_paribus1776 said at 9:11 PM on December 13th, 2012:

why to they insist on running the stretch with no athletes on the Oline?

  62. 62 Arby1 said at 9:13 PM on December 13th, 2012:

It’s very quiet here. OK, I’ll go first: what’ya you guys think of those Golden Globe nominations? Anne Hathaway for best SUPPORTING actress? What’s up with that?!

  63. 63 Gary Root said at 9:19 PM on December 13th, 2012:

I’m a Homeland fan, but I don’t think it deserves any nominations this year. Besides Mandy Patinkin.

  64. 64 Arby1 said at 9:29 PM on December 13th, 2012:

Haven’t seen it yet but it’s in my netflix queue. Looking forward.

  65. 65 Arby1 said at 9:20 PM on December 13th, 2012:

“It’s very quiet in here” For some reason, the computer I’m on isn’t doing automatic updates, hence I thought comments dried up….

  66. 66 ceteris_paribus1776 said at 9:13 PM on December 13th, 2012:

Riley Cooper — not the guy you want catching screens on 3rd and 11

  67. 67 Iskar36 said at 9:14 PM on December 13th, 2012:

Seemed like an odd route by cooper there. Got himself off balance so he couldn’t turn and run up field

  68. 68 Corry Henry said at 9:20 PM on December 13th, 2012:

Better throw there and Maclin has 6.

  69. 69 eagles2zc said at 9:20 PM on December 13th, 2012:

Floated that ball. Good decision though

  70. 70 shah8 said at 9:21 PM on December 13th, 2012:

clearly a set play, not a read.

  71. 71 ceteris_paribus1776 said at 9:24 PM on December 13th, 2012:

has to read the safety and DB biting down. Otherwise it’s an INT. Just because a play is “designed” to go to a receiver doesn’t mean there isn’t a read involved. I think what you wanted to say was that it was an easy play to read.

  72. 72 shah8 said at 9:27 PM on December 13th, 2012:

Well, I don’t really know the definitions–let’s just say that there was

    1) successful play
    2) eat a sack
    3) playground rules

I meant that there wasn’t any other receivers truly ready for a ball.

  73. 73 Iskar36 said at 9:21 PM on December 13th, 2012:

Good play by Foles on downfield throw. Could have thrown it a yard or two longer to lead maclin a but more but I like the improvement on that throw.

  74. 74 P_P_K said at 9:25 PM on December 13th, 2012:

Nick really sold that pump fake. I hope they try that again.

  75. 75 Arby1 said at 9:34 PM on December 13th, 2012:

Are you kidding? Andy’s found a play that works, he run it 6 more times before the half.

  76. 76 P_P_K said at 9:39 PM on December 13th, 2012:

Oh, you mean like the shovel pass near the goal line.

  77. 77 Arby1 said at 9:44 PM on December 13th, 2012:

At least Bryce Brown didn’t catch and pass…

  78. 78 ceteris_paribus1776 said at 9:25 PM on December 13th, 2012:

    Bobby April: overrated???

  79. 79 Ollivier Boguais said at 9:28 PM on December 13th, 2012:

Once again, I just love what Foles shows us tonight….

  80. 80 shah8 said at 9:28 PM on December 13th, 2012:

    Brandon Graham earning money…

  81. 81 BC1968 said at 9:29 PM on December 13th, 2012:

THE EAGLES HAVE CAUSED A TURNOVER! THE EAGLES HAVE CAUSED A TURNOVER! I REPEAT, THE EAGLES HAVE CAUSED A TURNOVER!

  82. 82 Corry Henry said at 9:31 PM on December 13th, 2012:

Are we allowed to do that?

  83. 83 Daniel said at 9:29 PM on December 13th, 2012:

    Who needs Babin!?

  84. 84 Iskar36 said at 9:33 PM on December 13th, 2012:

Who needs the wide 9 to create pressure.

  85. 85 ceteris_paribus1776 said at 9:30 PM on December 13th, 2012:

    encouraged by Graham’s recent play

  86. 86 P_P_K said at 9:34 PM on December 13th, 2012:

I’ve been enjoying the NFL commercials.

  87. 87 DamonL86 said at 9:34 PM on December 13th, 2012:

    enough of the outside runs

  88. 88 ceteris_paribus1776 said at 9:37 PM on December 13th, 2012:

seriously, our Tackles are garbage on sealing the outside shoulder. They aren’t athletic enough

  89. 89 shah8 said at 9:35 PM on December 13th, 2012:

Alright, I see successful pass plays. I also see that the middle of the OL isn’t doing too bad. What I want to see from Foles, truly, are more straight up reads and passes, particularly strong throws outside of the hashes. The stuff I’m seeing right now is not successfully sustainable over the long term.

I do like the sack escape just now.

  90. 90 Iskar36 said at 9:37 PM on December 13th, 2012:

Uh oh. Shah8 is starting to convert!

  91. 91 shah8 said at 9:44 PM on December 13th, 2012:

Not really, but I don’t think much of Andy Dalton either. Laying an egg.

  92. 92 shah8 said at 9:47 PM on December 13th, 2012:

And that sack he took? No, he’s Alex Smith of the future. Never really had the tools, and showing it these days. Caught the end of the Bengals Cowboys game. There was a lot of blame for receiver drops, but Dalton isn’t making too many good throws, and these receivers are working too hard to catch the passes.

  93. 93 ceteris_paribus1776 said at 9:35 PM on December 13th, 2012:

Any doubt Vick would’ve fumbled there???

  94. 94 ceteris_paribus1776 said at 9:39 PM on December 13th, 2012:

note: brown cannot run the shovel pass. carry on..;.

  95. 95 Ollivier Boguais said at 9:41 PM on December 13th, 2012:

I really want to see Foles with Shady on the field.

  96. 96 Iskar36 said at 9:39 PM on December 13th, 2012:

Is it me or do nfl players seem to never understand that the shovel pass is in fact a pass?

  97. 97 TheRogerPodacter said at 9:46 PM on December 13th, 2012:

i would rather train my players to dive on the ball anytime they see it is on the ground. this way they recover it by instinct, rather than taking that half second to think about it.

  98. 98 Iskar36 said at 9:49 PM on December 13th, 2012:

Oh I agree with that but still, they generally act so pumped up when they “recover” that ball and I have a hard time believing that it is acting.

  99. 99 TheRogerPodacter said at 9:50 PM on December 13th, 2012:

hahaha i gotta agree with that. lets just be happy that the guy didnt get up from the pile and run back to the other end zone lol

  100. 100 lilmc said at 9:44 PM on December 13th, 2012:

Graham- 2 Sacks and a holding call already.

  101. 101 shah8 said at 9:54 PM on December 13th, 2012:

a second holding call, and a helmet, too!

  102. 102 lilmc said at 9:59 PM on December 13th, 2012:

Maybe Washburn was holding him back.

  103. 103 ceteris_paribus1776 said at 9:44 PM on December 13th, 2012:

C’mon DRC. That should be an easy tackle

  104. 104 lilmc said at 9:46 PM on December 13th, 2012:

Dalton seems to go down pretty easily.

  105. 105 P_P_K said at 9:46 PM on December 13th, 2012:

Gotta’ like the way D is playing. Bengals are 1-6 in 3rd down conversions.

  106. 106 eagles2zc said at 9:48 PM on December 13th, 2012:

When did Anderson turn into a competent safety??

  107. 107 Daz said at 9:50 PM on December 13th, 2012:

Shhh! Don’t use words like competent and safety in the same sentence – you’ll jinx him!

  108. 108 Gary Root said at 9:51 PM on December 13th, 2012:

When we ditched the Wide 9, it seems to me

  109. 109 TheRogerPodacter said at 9:47 PM on December 13th, 2012:

where was this pass rush all season? oh right. that ‘wide 9’ thing…

  110. 110 Corry Henry said at 9:49 PM on December 13th, 2012:

    Tate just Damaris’d that punt.

  111. 111 ceteris_paribus1776 said at 9:50 PM on December 13th, 2012:

Foles’ pocket awareness is so much better than Vick’s. It’s not even close and he’s a rookie.

  112. 112 TheRogerPodacter said at 9:52 PM on December 13th, 2012:

right? its like he knows where the D’s rushers are and can take those little steps to avoid it.
after seeing vick for so long, its almost strange to see lol

  113. 113 ceteris_paribus1776 said at 9:52 PM on December 13th, 2012:

run D is still a bit suspect

  114. 114 Iskar36 said at 9:54 PM on December 13th, 2012:

I’m completely blown away by how Anderson is playing. Not only is he not getting exposed, but he is making plays.

  115. 115 shah8 said at 9:57 PM on December 13th, 2012:

Andy does deserve to be fired. The DL looks so much better!

  116. 116 Cal Setar said at 10:16 PM on December 13th, 2012:

Really solidifies the notion that Andy owes a lot of his early successes to JJ. When he’s had to have more of a hand in the defense, he’s made some truly awful decisions.

  117. 117 TheRogerPodacter said at 9:58 PM on December 13th, 2012:

i am absolutely shocked how well the DL is playing today. they are making Wash & Babin look like fools now.

  120. 120 Iskar36 said at 10:01 PM on December 13th, 2012:

It’s amazing to me that the wide 9 was supposed create more pressure at the expense of the LBers and we are seeing the dline create pressure while also having our LBs happier.
