PHI 10, TB 0 – 2nd Half
Posted: December 9th, 2012 | Author: Tommy Lawlor | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 300 Comments »Wow. DRC is out there hitting TEs and tackling RBs. Nnamdi is being physical and playing the ball. Nick Foles is running for TDs (I assume he has scored by now). Crazy game.
Really wish the defense played this hard in previous games. Excellent effort.
Josh Freeman has a QB rating of 44. Goal is to keep him under 120.
And….that false start was our first penalty the entire game.
I watch live and I see this!!! Doesn’t look like a 3-9 team. Colt dropped his INT.
We ‘ll win today, no doubts about it !!!
I assume he scored by now lmao
“Goal is to keep him under 120”
Wow – Did you ever think that would be a goal for any game coming into this year?
did we already give up on Brown reaching 120 yards? lol
Okay… THERE we go. That’s Eagles’ football.
yep… now things are back to normal…
Barf.
There’s the other shoe dropping…
It couldn’t last . . .
No… I would’ve guessed another Brown fumble. Though I guess there’s still plenty of time for that, too.
Jim washburn really brought this team down is what I’m taking from this game.
thaaaaaats why they are 3-9
Will be good if the D can hold ’em to a FG.
Or at least have it be a rushing td rather than a pass. Keep the qb rating low.
Want the Eagles to play good but if they lose it doesnt help the cowboys. Look at it that way.
First time I seen a free Blitzer all year.
No.
Earlier this year — against Baltimore — Ryans had a sack off pretty much the same blitz.
(I think it was the Ravens)
Other than that, yes.
I sure am glad Nnamdi is back in the game.
must give up a td a week
Flukey fumble by Johnson. He had plenty of time to settle under that punt.
On the flip side . . . the Eagles haven’t recovered a fumble or had an INT in weeks.
when was the last turnover from this defense?
And in Johnson’s defense, it’s not easy to catch a football when you’ve called for a fair catch and there’s nobody around you and your professional career depends on you catching it.
The lack of takeaways is crazy.
I don’t think you can judge from one game if Wash was bringing the team down. His firing probably fired up the D line. It’s like when a team comes out hard when the starting QB gets benched. Everyone ups their game. We’ll see if it lasts.
Juan firing didn’t motivate anyone though
It motivated them to play some of the worst defense the NFL has ever seen.
True, hard to tell right now, but that wide 9 was annoying. Also, people on the inside are now saying he’s a PRICK, maybe not in those words
I’m pretty sure Marsh would have picked that and took it for 6 the other way. Not positive, obviously, but around 95%.
Lack of pressure gave Freeman plenty of time.
Tick-tock-tick-tock.
Need to get consistent pressure of we’ll lose
Insult to injury, honoring the 2001 team that took our super bowl
Tall rangy jam corner that can’t play the fade in the red zone … I really like Nnamdi but he can’t even do what he’s built for anymore.
They can’t stop Foles!!! And look at that slide!
You can’t stop him. You can only hope to contain him.
Can we tape a cheetah to Foles back?
Merrill just called him Nick “Antelope” Foles. LOL.
Ha!
Oh wow a, a qB who slides!
Slide is being generous.
Anyone else expect Avant to fumble on that?
Nice play.
AC, there’s your sprint out-of-bounds…
That outside run play sucks
Works for McCoy… sometimes.
True but when it doesn’t work it looks really bad
when Jason Peters is playing
Does Marty know it’s legal to run the ball up the middle of the defense?
He’s moving nicely in the pocket
WTF?
why keep calling those ridiculous plays to the outside.
The Bucs are running the safety into the box on 1st down. C’mon!
wowwwwwwwwwwwwwww
Come on! Seriously?
Whew. I was worried about our draft pick for a while there.
And Henery never made a field goal again…
Don’t
Laces in. Ace Ventura anyone?
How many more times will MM call a stretch run to the short side of the field before he realizes their ineffectiveness??? Seriously, how how is it to mix in a run between the tackles now and then??? His playcalling is frustrating beyond belief.
McCoy can’t run between the tackles.
Marty “saw something that he can exploit” on the outside
lol
ST’ers have to suck together or what?
Good job of Alex there to protect our draft position. Veteran move.
And keep the bucs in it with skins and Dallas
That FG miss was on the holder . . . bring back Chas Henry
dumb question – how do you know it was on the holder? were the laces in as the other poster mentioned in reference to ace ventura? lol
i didnt really catch what happened.
I’m kidding.
I’ve been saying the team should bring back Henry for a few weeks.
ahh ok. lol.
the D is coming *so close* to a takeaway time and time again. just can’t close the deal…
Close call ints should be called mamulas
I prefer “Takeos”
Remember when Will Witherspoon had that crazy first game and we thought our linebacker issues were solved?
Smart play there by Johnson… the end zone has never muffed a punt.
Can we fire Bobby April this week?
I mean really. One coach or player per game from here on out.
Stockton: Good catch by Clay Harboo.
did you hear the line earlier about Nick Foles?
his stats for the day – “six six and two hundred and forty eight yards”
LOL
Seems like he’s got everything down except nouns.
Maclin wants that top 5 pick
Funny.
Even if this is a catch/fumble, didn’t they blow the whistle before anyone recovered it?
Yeah the right to a clear fumble was never established because they fumbled as the whistle blew. What I saw
Yep.
isnt there some way that it could still go to the defense? like if it is clear that the defense would have recovered?
Not if they blow the whistle. It’s like fumbling out of bounds. I think there was one last week (maybe in college? Kansas State?) where someone pulled a D-Jax and dropped the ball before entering the end zone… nobody covered it, and since the refs had “inadvertently” called it a touch-down, it wasn’t ruled a touchback…
Why didn’t they get back to the line and run a damn play.
Foles needed just a little bit more zip on that pass there.
Exactly.
Colt, nice
There’s a pass completion we’ve seen about 15,000 times this year.
Seriously… is Nnamdi much better in practice or something?
Its over for Trent cole
Why in the world is marsh and Hughes not getting any snaps?
Nice flop, Stocker.
+1
but the backjudge was there. he MUST have seen something….
smh…
4 miles over his friggin head
i wonder if the offsetting penalty had anything to do with the helmet that came off during that play
yep, thornton pushes the OG helmet off and he must have retaliated afterwards
I don’t know about you all, but I feel good about this game in terms of momentum. Barf.
feel good for the momentum to get a higher draft pick?
I’m sure our defense will come up with a turnover here.
Did anybody mention the little flaming fairy dancing in the first half?
Madden commercial plagiarizing “Fletch” there with “It’s all ball-bearings nowadays.” Weird.
Wait, Jamar Chaney couldn’t stay with Vincent Jackson???
DRC should have made the tackle. Terrible attempt.
so much for all that effort
and Nate Allen threw his back at Jackson. Pathetic
What I’m taking away from this game is Josh Freeman’s not an “elite” QB
Except in the RZ
Let’s wait until he’s had a chance to pick apart our D for the rest of the quarter…
Nice whiff DRC
That was cringe worthy
And I thought for a second the Eagles would win today. How could I dare?!
I made the same mistake. Just thinking of the draft position now.
We should have a top 3 pick after today..any CB worth picking that high?!
Each week we’re all Charlie Brown lining up to the kick a field goal…
That’s it, exactly.
I gave that example recently. So true.
Crap, I must have missed it! I promise I’m not joke-stealing…
Talk to my lawyers, mister.
I ha d teh same feeling at the beginning of the game….
The prospect of getting a better draft position is a great equalizer when your team goes down
We’re kind of known for owning the 4th quarter, so I’m not worried…
I like having foles in this situation. Why not? Its meaningless
another great catch for avant, too bad this one is clearly out of bounds.
The Eagles defense needs to be re-stocked on the back end.
Bowles has played a lot of zone today. But Nnamdi’s not a zone guy. And DRC’s not a tackler.
The safeties are just not very good. (On the long pass to V-Jax in front of Nnamdi, it looked like Allen again got caught up inside.)
Yeah, it’s a mess back there. “Wide 9” melodrama aside, I feel good about the front 7 (would like another LB to step up), but the “coordination” in the defensive backfield is a huge problem… and to your point, it’s personnel, not scheme.
i feel like the secondary wasnt playing *that* bad when bowles was still in charge of them.
omigod. a run. up the middle. yay
Foles needed to get that pass closer to the sideline. he put it in a place where teh defender could make a play on it and he did.
It looked like it may have been tipped at the line
ahh that would also be a problem. probably took some of the speed off the ball giving the D time to close in on it.
The American country awards I’d rather shove a pen in my ear
Ditto that for me.
lol it looked like DRC got there so early that he realized he couldnt just hit the guy so he had to make a play on the ball.
Drc could’ve went for the ball there. Where’s asante
Sitting on a bench enjoying his 11-1 (likely to be 11-2) record…
Freeman was simply Foles-esque on that.
Less slow.
STOP TALKING ABOUT THE ’02 BUCS
Talk about how Reid was outcoached after Staley’s 20 yard TD run!
Where is the FRAKING turnovers?
You have to wait until we’re on offense.
Lol awesome
Face palm
Nnamdi! I feel like Mr. Wilson cursing Dennis the Menace at this point. Or the Captain shouting “Gilligan!”
Now that’s funny.
That’s the play I’ll say convinced me he’s not worth back even at four million
With plays like that, is he even worth 4 million?
The roof is slowly collapsing
Wow… Stockton is totally out of his gourd.
T-Law:
I’m sorry . . . Nate Allen is really suffering from a loss of confidence. Or he’s not good.
Is he playing today?
sigh. i really want to like nate allen, but he is definitely struggling out there. not quite as bad as curt coleman has been struggling, though.
Or 24
Cowboys are losing, cheer up everyone
Marty’s play-calling on runs was MALPRACTICE today.
The Bucs just proved it.
How much of Martin’s 100+ yards came between the tackles?
HORRIBLE.
We make no adjustments either. Just keep trying to run outside.
They saw something on tape that they thought they could exploit.
To be fair, we’ve never been good at halftime adjustments
Only 2 rushes 2nd half too
More stretches
I’m thinking Cards/Seahawks for the late game…?
Some say the roof is collapsing, I say the roof is half full
Brilliant.
RE: Nnamdi
To paraphrase Dark Helmet’s right-hand man, Colonel Sandurz, “He’s gone from suck to blow.”
Nice touch on that pass from Foles.
True that’s
that
I like “true that’s”!
I better hurry and get a patent
Yes. And then get that thing on some T-shirts.
Might I suggest “True Dat’s”?
Re: The Young D-Backs
Reid said to the reporter, when asked why the young guys, aren’t playing that “you assume they played well when they played.”
How much worse could they be?
And what’s the point of keeping NA and DRC in there?
Nice throw
Beautiful touch
Nother nice throw
Tick tick tick…
Um, hurry up boys
Clay Harboo!
Wow love foles moving in the pocket today
foles was close to crossing the LOS before throwing that one. surprised they aren’t going to at least take a longer look at it.
That’s a great play by Foles. He is improving week to week. I like what he is doing.
Don’t worry about the 2pt. conversion. I smell a gritty 3 and out from our D, followed by a soul-crushing strip sack by Te’o Nesheim.
If we lose and it hurts dallas and Washington, the day isn’t all that bad
This game is all on Alex Henery.
The one time you need a FG and, like last year against SF, he blows it.
(I’m kidding)
Time to ship him to the Niners
You guys do the Mathew, andy did in the 08 championship game
Math geez lol
This one is not a T-shirt… sorry.
Agreed lol
They must not be scared of foles
Tick tick tick…
Believe….
I told you to believe 🙂
You can hear NFL Films Music right now . . .
I hear the Benny Hill theme
Ha!
What are we, 3rd and long? I wouldn’t do it, but watch for the Dion Lewis screen…
Wow!
i gotta say… at least i am excited about the end of the game here.
so many times this season i have just not cared.
Of course that was a penalty
There were 9 receivers open on that play
ahh man. foles needed like another fraction of a second to get a better pass off, i think.
ugh. how is it that king dunlap cannot block ronde barber in the open field?!?!
tick tick tick
Nice
All the heartache they gave us let’s return the favor ‘
can they review a penalty?
i thought the same. Guess so
If we somehow score, gotta go for 2 again…
god forbid the bucs try for another 79 yard field goal….
That one sucked
They’d hit it too.
per JimmyK’s twitter:
Stockton: “LaDoug Martin”
hahahahhaha
8 guys around cooper
let’s get the quick first (out of bounds) and go from there, please…
yea i dont get it… why are they going for the TD now?
Rookie
WOW.
Clay was open too
holy crap. time for one play……. one yard to go
Here we go… Foles bootleg! Make it happen!
just looking back through the comments. it looks like you called it!
Wow, just wow
Beware the shovel pass…
how funny would it be for bryce brown to get the winning TD? can’t do anything all day, but gets the last carry of the game.
Dallas eon, they are pulling for us. I have mixed emotions
Wonlollllllllll some revenge from the 90 yard fg
I think it was a 155 yarder, if I recall correctly…
lol i swear if we look back through the gameday threads, the kick gets longer every time.
its been so many years, but the wait was worth it. haha
YES!!!!!
yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyy
His foot is very close to the line…
Good to see Andy happy, isn’t it?
My heart is in my throat right now.
Nick Montana!!!!!!
The kids are tough!!!!
Ive had that look ronde
Nice…
Feel good for Reid
this is going to sound weird….
but i feel like maclin goes to his knees to catch the ball a lot.
…
no seriously. it seems to happen a lot….
Yeah, some guys bend over to pick low balls up.
McNutt especially
Vick wouldn’t have seen Maclin get open on that play. Too short to see over the mass of lineman to his right.
Andy has some nice titties
they are extra perky today.
call is confirmed!!!
Now here comes the most pointless thing in football… the mandatory extra point. Matters to point-spreaders, I guess
I think Nnamdi saved his biggest hit for congratulating Maclin
Lol
hahahaha theyre going to check maclin for a concussion. no wait…. nnamdi can’t hit that hard.
Ha! Very true.
Shocking that Marty called a rollout.
Can’t believe TB wasn’t ready
weird, right? seems to be the go-to play from inside the 5 for god knows what reason.
FOLES ERA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I mean, that win was worth losing a blue-chip left tackle or DT, right? To me, it kind of is…
sweet, sweet revenge. haha
Great win. We can lose plenty more games to help the draft status. Good to beat the Bucs on the day they celebrated their SB win.
HOLY ISH! This feels weird.
Nick Foles
32/51 – ~63% completions
381 yards passing
2 TDs passing
3 rushes for 27 yards
1 rushing TD.
wow. i did not expect to see that.
Yeah… this will go far in terms of deciding his future in Philly…
and I missed it for a QB that went 91 yards and an dumb INT. I was hoping he’d get boo’ed off and let the real QB play, but nope.
And so I miss a big game here…
at least the Vikings won.
I’m reminded of the game Eli Manning had against the Bucs. A good run defense, but just horrible on the pass stuff, looks like, since I’ve not seen them against anything but Ponder.
One demerit is that he took a tremendous number of sacks, six of them, to a team that had 18 of them prior to this game. Foles also took 13 hits. He’s not going to last that long if the OL plays this poorly as well.
Rewatch the game and I bet you’ll see he took smart sacks and didn’t try to force things like you know who.
uh, huh…
I don’t think you’re following me. I didn’t watch the game, so I don’t know whether they are smart or not.
What’s more, sacks are seriously negative plays. They do tend to be drive killers, and it doesn’t matter whether the QB is “smart” or not, you really want to prevent an accumulative -43 yards from sacks. I mean, did Foles take every opportunity to throw balls away? All in all, six sacks is six sacks, with an average of -7 yards. That’s really bad, regardless of whether it’s on the QB or not. If it’s on the OL, who’s doing the most releasing of defenders? Tampa Bay is notoriously bad at rushing the passer, and they were without their best pass rusher for the rest of the year. *Someone* is doing a horrible job in that department.
If you didn’t watch the game how can you give him any “demerits?” That’s laughable. Watch the game before you take a guess as to what happened
/me raises an eyebrow…
Why so upset? Generally, sacks are assigned to the QB, on the offense. More advance statistics will show which linemen gave up pressure. In any event, QBs are supposed to avoid sacks, even when linemen does a bad job. General common football sense, you know. Because, you know, by and large, teams lose when they give up so many sacks, regardless of whether that’s the QB’s fault or not. It’s reasonable to see it as a flaw in a game.
There’s also the durability question as well. 13 hits is comparable to the hits a change of pace RB takes. You don’t want a QB to get hit that much, regardless of size.
Its ok man, I thought vick was a chang
ed qb too. He’s showed flash
es all through his career but it’s over. Save yourself the embarrassment and move on like the rest of us. We’ll await your take on the game after you have watched it.FOLES BABY!!!!
Eh, what?
Okay, looking past the lameness of your attitude, my first impression is that it was a good, if inefficient, game. Foles will need more of them. He’ll need to improve his deep ball more, so I hear.
To the extent that I hold the idea that Vick will come back, it’s simply because I think Tommy et al has a weak grasp of the simple distance of Vick’s performance from genuinely bad. I’ve seen plenty of honest bad QB’ing this year. I also see just how many teams need a better QB, so there will be strong competition for the few viable options out there. Lastly, I think the evidence is pretty strong that the weak performance of the OL is the primary cause of less than excellent play by Vick.
Going strictly by the games I’ve actually seen Foles play, I’ve concluded that he doesn’t have to physical tools to consistently do well in the NFL. I was pretty biased from the start because Foles was a third round draft pick, and there just wasn’t much unknown about Foles–so little to speculate as to upside.
Is it a good game? Yup. I also remember Tannehill having a great game against Arizona, who’s completely humiliated other QBs. Tannihill hasn’t had very many good games, though. Foles did this against Tampa, and he doesn’t have the tools that Tannehill has. Watching the Miami game, and remembering the Thursday night game, Foles does have *much* better game IQ than Tannehill. Tannehill, while just throwing a nice TD, is just too raw to be playing right now.
I think you’d have to be, and I’d have to be, an idiot to judge what Foles is either way yet. In Vick’s case, he has lost a lot of speed, hasn’t progressed like it seemed he had started to do under Reid when he first got the starting job. Possibly the lockout hurt him, who knows? Also the lack of knowing how not to take a sack or not knowing when to slide which has caused his constant injuries and kept him from playing full seasons. He doesn’t know how to read defenses like he should at this point of his career and it’s safe to say he never will. RG3 and Andrew Luck are both already better than he ever has been at doing that.
,”it’s simply because I think Tommy et al has a weak grasp of the simple distance of Vick’s performance from genuinely bad”
That made me lol. Good one.
/me rolls eyes. You can have the last word.
/me rolls eyes twice as hard as you. Check and mate.
I’m going to agree with you that there is rarely ever such a thing as a “smart sack”, but having watched this game I’d say that Foles deserves little of the blame in this case. The Bucs got a lot of pressure from blitzes and stunts the line didn’t pick up, and they really struggled to block both Gerald McCoy and our old friend Daniel Te’o-Nesheim. On one or two of them he maybe could have gotten rid of the ball faster, but on most he had no chance to even set his feet to throw the ball away.
eff the stunts. Seriously. I.am.so.sick.of.failures.to.pick.up.one.little.twist.
I guess after vick, I’m just saying anything that doesn’t result in a turnover is a smart sack. LOL
So, your going on record saying that we don’t want a QB that takes a lot of sacks?
I know. How do we always end up with a running QB 🙂
DYNASTY STARTS TODAY, WOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
How many SBs will he win?
14
In Foles’ first 9 seasons.
Foles is making these games more fun to watch as each game goes by. Or in the words of Roy Halladay: Funner
Great win.
Play calling by Marty was generally atrocious vis-a-vis the running game.
Nick Foles deep-passing needs serious work. Leaving points on the board.
But I think the kid is great . . . if for no other reason, he’s the first Eagles QB since Dutch Van Brocklin to throw a TD off the roll-out. (At least it seems that long)
Does seem that long.
Atleast Foles showed today that he does not lack arm strength, now he just need to learn to use that arm strength.
Love getting the win and getting that monkey of our backs. Love inflicting a crushing, heartbreaking loss on a franchise that I hate as much as any that’s not in the NFC East. But most of all love how Foles looked. He still forced a few throws, but he was smart, poised, and hit some very tight windows, and (on first viewing at least) looks like he consistently made good decisions. His TD throws were the kind you need to make to excel in the red zone and that throw to Avant to set up the winning score was fantastic. Hopefully we’ve found ourselves a quarterback.
I always knew the Eagles would win this….!
Never a doubt.
Playcalling:
60 called passes.
13 called runs (all but 2 to the edge)
Yes, Virginia . . . Nick Foles CAN win a game throwing the ball 51 times!
Are you sure about just 2 runs being inside? Total was too low, but seemed like there were a couple more.
Brown cut back once for a couple yards.
He had the 10 yard run in the 1st half.
Maybe another couple?
I trust your instincts on this.
But the number of called runs — and the type of runs — very frustrating.
Wasn’t that as a result of an audible by Foles?
Which play re: the audible?
Here’s a game the Eagles were either leading or very close the until about 6:30 was left.
But no run calls. And when he called runs, they were — for the most part (and T-Law can arbitrate the final number) — were to the sideline.
Brown’s a N-S runner anyway. With a weak line, don’t put additional pressure on them against a great run-defense front 7.
BB spent a long time with negative yardage, so I assume he was getting hit in the backfield often trying to get to the edge?
yea, the OL couldnt block anybody in the run game
Tommy, how crazy was it to know that Foles called that last TD play him self? (and kudos to MM/AR for trusting him)
Seriously, from Luck to Griffin to Tannehill to Weeden to Wilson to Foles to Cousins. WTF? Apart from Tannehill at this point in time, all have won aor taken part in a victory today. Freakish, or has the NFL changed? If Brock O turns out to be a screwed pick among this crop, that will be some serious egg of Foles’ hero.
