PHI 17, DAL 10 – 2nd Half

Bryce Brown is a HOF player. Nick Foles, too. And Alex Henery. And Brandon Graham.

Not Kurt Coleman.

Or Doug Free.

Fun half. Do more of this and I can be happy for a whole day.

(I keep saying that to you a lot tonight)

  13. 13 Iskar36 said at 10:11 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

    Wow that was ugly.

  14. 14 Daniel said at 10:11 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Comically bad angles. Make it black and white and it looks like Benny Hill.

  15. 15 laeagle said at 10:13 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Benny hill was in color. You just need music and a funny little bald guy (Kurt Coleman?)

  16. 16 SteveH said at 10:12 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

How… how can the Eagles secondary be this bad… I just wish I could understand…

  17. 17 phillychuck said at 10:12 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

That was quick. I feel like we’ve lost a lot of first half leads on the first drive in the 3rd Q, but I might be remembering wrong.

  18. 18 Baloophi said at 10:14 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Yes, but only because we haven’t had any first half leads.

  19. 19 lilmc said at 10:12 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

So much for the good feeling. Nice job D! Lots of pride on that side of the ball.

  20. 20 Baloophi said at 10:13 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Extra gut-wrenching because they had Murray stopped on that 3rd and 1, and then let him get outside.

  21. 21 bdbd20 said at 10:13 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Yeah, nobody saw that drive coming. At least the defense forced them to score quickly so we can see more of Foles/Brown.

  22. 22 Daniel said at 10:13 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

If we are letting young guys play, I’d like to see David Sims get in for Coleman. He looked solid in the New Orleans game against Jimmy freaking Graham.

  23. 23 Iskar36 said at 10:21 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Our secondary is going to need a major overhaul this offseason.

  24. 24 Iskar36 said at 10:13 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Nate Allen basically blocked two Eagles at the end of that catch and run.

  25. 25 TommyLawlor said at 10:14 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

    So much for the lead.

  26. 26 Baloophi said at 10:16 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

The sad part is how perfect we had to play to get it…

  27. 27 ceteris_paribus1776 said at 10:15 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

I see sure angle Nate Allen was at it again on the Dez TD.

  28. 28 SteveH said at 10:18 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

What the hell was he doing on that play, I don’t know. Just ran right by.

  29. 29 TommyLawlor said at 10:20 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

    Bizarre.

  30. 30 BobSmith77 said at 10:20 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Didn’t think the safety play could be worse this year. It has been.

  31. 31 BobSmith77 said at 10:16 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Is there any QB in the NFL right now that wouldn’t look very competent to HOF vs this pedestrian defense?

  32. 32 Baloophi said at 10:17 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Or the CFL. Or the NCAA. Or Pop Warner.

  33. 33 shah8 said at 10:30 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

    Christian Ponder

  34. 34 bdbd20 said at 10:16 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Jerry: “How the hell do I get rid of this idiot after he breaks Troy’s record?”

  35. 35 DF587 said at 10:19 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Trade him to a division rival for a 2nd round pick. Then use that pick on a Safety who takes bad angles and is a mediocre tackler.

  36. 36 bdbd20 said at 10:21 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

That would never work. What kind of bush-league organization would trade for the garbage of one of their rivals?

  37. 37 ChaosOnion said at 10:21 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

So can I be prematurely, super-excited about Foles now?

    Premature adulation?

  38. 38 Baloophi said at 10:23 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Brown holds the ball like it’s a dirty diaper.

  39. 39 BobSmith77 said at 10:24 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

If the Eagles had gone with this kind of more conservative & balanced play-calling, would the Eagles have won another game or possibly two? I have to think so.

  40. 40 TommyLawlor said at 10:28 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Helps. Offense is also executing (esp. Foles).

  41. 41 shah8 said at 10:30 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

The issue has been their OL. Looking better today, but nothing like last year. Of course, it didn’t help how committed they were to having Vick keeping plays alive and taking so many hits. Bryce Brown terrorizing the Dallas secondary has a lot to do with how much time Foles has.

  42. 42 BobSmith77 said at 10:25 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

    Nice throw Foles.

  43. 43 SteveH said at 10:26 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

    FUCK YEAH!!!! #EAGLESYOUTHMOVEMENT

  44. 44 lilmc said at 10:26 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

    Whoo! Nice throw and catch!!

  45. 45 DF587 said at 10:26 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

    What a catch!!

  46. 46 Iskar36 said at 10:26 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Lewis really got overlooked this season. I understand Brown is the logical backup to McCoy, but when Lewis has been given opportunities he has played well. He should have been getting a few touches here and there throughout the season.

  47. 47 SteveH said at 10:27 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Agree 100%, I have no idea what his absence was about.

  48. 48 Ark87 said at 10:32 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

He was in the dog house big time. I’ve hear speculation that his tumble down the depth chart and a diva attitude towards special teams got him deactivated a ton of games this season.

  49. 49 Iskar36 said at 10:36 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Has Polk made any plays on STs though? Also, does anyone know where to look up STs production points for the season?

  50. 50 nicolajNN said at 10:29 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

I still don’t understand why he has not been active over Polk, I think he’s in the Reid doghouse, maybe due to his off-season incident

  51. 51 Iskar36 said at 10:33 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Pulling a fire alarm is dumb, but you punish him for a game for that, not the season. We have had players do much more dumb things that have not been in the dog house that long.

  52. 52 shah8 said at 10:28 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

The OL has settled down, but Bryce Brown has been heroic, and played a big role in diminishing that pass rush!

  53. 53 Ark87 said at 10:28 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Could the eagles…..be in a shootout?

  54. 54 Baloophi said at 10:28 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Al Michaels keeps saying if you do a movie and want to cast an assistant coach, you go with Howard Mudd. I say, if you do a movie about Howard Mudd, you cast Anthony Hopkins…

  55. 55 TommyLawlor said at 10:29 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

    I’ll buy that.

  56. 56 TommyLawlor said at 10:28 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

    Terrific catch by Riley Cooper.

  57. 57 noah heulitt said at 10:29 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

And a great ball by Foles. Not to mention a great arm bar by Cooper

  58. 58 DF587 said at 10:30 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

So far, the refs are letting the players play tonight. I don’t have a good feeling about that.

  59. 59 noah heulitt said at 10:36 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Could definitely go either way. Might make life difficult with Dez

  60. 60 ceteris_paribus1776 said at 10:30 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

I’ve been impressed with the play-calling, Brown, & Foles tonight. Makes a huge difference in settling the team

  61. 61 Baloophi said at 10:31 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

How about a rare turnover for our D?

  62. 62 bdbd20 said at 10:36 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

    You’re joking, right?

  63. 63 Baloophi said at 10:42 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

It’d be a crazy surprise, right?

  64. 64 Baloophi said at 10:32 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Nnamdi should be credited with an almost tackle on that.

  65. 65 BobSmith77 said at 10:35 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Schooled again in man-to-man. You haven’t heard the excuse this year about Nnadmi being misused in zone and playing well in man. Not sure why teams don’t even try to abuse him more when he is in man.

  66. 66 A_T_G said at 10:37 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

“The Phillies have won more recently than the Eagles.” That is a great stat.

So, matching, and hopefully topping our season high point totals gets Foles another start, right?

  67. 67 BobSmith77 said at 10:39 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

    Need a stop.

  68. 68 BobSmith77 said at 10:40 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Terrible spot. What is Garrett doing?

  69. 69 A_T_G said at 10:39 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

4th and 1. Stand up Emmitt, push him back

  70. 70 bdbd20 said at 10:41 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Bad spot. Should be overturned. Good effort by the D, though.

  71. 71 Baloophi said at 10:41 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

This is a bad challenge for Dallas. Not enough to overturn the spot.

  72. 72 Iskar36 said at 10:44 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

I don’t know about that. Seems like the refs have a clear view from above. I would be surprised if it wasn’t overturned.

  73. 73 TommyLawlor said at 10:42 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Refs better not move this ball forward. No way to tell where it really was.

  74. 74 BobSmith77 said at 10:43 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Certainly doesn’t look conclusive on the replay although I thought it was a terrible spot initially.

  75. 75 TommyLawlor said at 10:46 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Agree spot wasn’t great. They almost never move these. Of course, they do it in the Dallas game. Barf.

  76. 76 Iskar36 said at 10:48 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

I gotta disagree with you on that one. You can see the ball on the angle from above and tell he is past/over top the yard marker. I would love for it to have been harder to see, but seemed like a clear blown call with a good replay to go back to.

  77. 77 SteveH said at 10:42 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

I’m not sure theres enough on the replay to overturn that. I think they marked him about a half a yard short but hey… shit happens.

  78. 78 Ark87 said at 10:43 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

how do you not rush the field line up and run a play right there?

  79. 79 BobSmith77 said at 10:44 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

It’s an Andy Reid team. His critics lampoon him for clock management but they are dead on on that issue. His teams are pretty much inept in all phases since he came here.

  80. 80 phillychuck said at 10:43 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

I think they got it, but I don’t know if the refs will overturn.

  81. 81 ChaosOnion said at 10:44 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

    They should move and measure.

  82. 82 Ark87 said at 10:46 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

    wow…

  83. 83 BobSmith77 said at 10:46 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

This was emblematic of two poor coaches. Reid doesn’t hurry up and run the play. Takes Garrett forever to throw the red flag when he should have thrown it right away.

  84. 84 A_T_G said at 10:46 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

A turnover now would really crush their momentum.

  85. 85 DF587 said at 10:46 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Here we go. The refs are starting to have an impact on the game. They’ve been invisible for 3 quarters. This doesn’t bode well for this undisciplined Eagles team.

  86. 86 SteveH said at 10:46 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Now its time for the secondary to blow some more coverages. God I wish we could ship all of them to Siberia.

  87. 87 Baloophi said at 10:48 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

They’d probably get on the wrong boat.

  88. 88 Iskar36 said at 10:50 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

I doubt we would be able to overhaul the entire secondary, but I’m not sure anyone deserves to remain as a starter next season.

  89. 89 BobSmith77 said at 10:52 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Nnamdi’s gone and Coleman won’t be back as a starter. Interesting to see if they think it is worth giving big money to DRC. No idea really if they do.

  90. 90 Iskar36 said at 10:58 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

I just don’t see how you can justify giving big money to DRC. He has athletic ability, but has played incredibly inconsistent, and that has been true even before he came to the Eagles.

  91. 91 Baloophi said at 10:47 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Holding four fingers up to indicate it’s the 4th quarter is one of the dumbest trends going. Where’s the love for the 2nd quarter?? I know I’ve been holding up one finger a lot this season…

  92. 92 DF587 said at 10:49 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

On cue, Collinsworth. No big plays given up by this defense

  93. 93 DF587 said at 10:50 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Bad angle by Nate Allen. He should have been in position to draw a defenseless receiver penalty, but he’s soft. I loathe our safeties

  94. 94 SteveH said at 10:50 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

I wish we could just shoot our whole secondary. Asomugha is just a token defender out there right now.

  95. 95 ceteris_paribus1776 said at 10:50 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

….and Nate Allen with the whiff, again…It’s getting old with these guys

  96. 96 BobSmith77 said at 10:50 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

I would love to see a ‘Benny Hill’ video clip put together of the Eagles secondary since the bye.

  97. 97 TommyLawlor said at 11:01 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

    Ditto.

  98. 98 bdbd20 said at 10:51 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Chances are that we lose this game, but I think we’ve seen enough from Foles and Brown to be optimistic about the future here.

  99. 99 lilmc said at 10:51 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Bowles was shouting watch the pass, maybe they all stopped to look at him.

  100. 100 Iskar36 said at 11:01 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

I know Bowles is in a tough situation, but that seriously is no longer a justifiable excuse for him. That excuse basically implies that no matter what he does, he can’t be blamed, and that’s an unfair protection for him. Other coaches have stepped in and coached well, and while it is tough to do, Bowles has down a bad job at doing that.

  101. 101 Ark87 said at 10:52 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Man what I’d give to have a functional defense

  102. 102 A_T_G said at 10:52 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

I think some teams put a guy or two in the secondary that are supposed to serve as a safety net and stop those plays – I’m not sure what they call the position, but we should think about doing that too.

  103. 103 BobSmith77 said at 10:52 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Can this defense hold anybody to under 30 pts?

  104. 104 bdbd20 said at 11:00 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

They do it all the time in practice.

  105. 105 BobSmith77 said at 10:55 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Brown is a one-man wrecking crew tonight.

  106. 106 P_P_K said at 10:56 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Anybody got a nickname for Brown?

  107. 107 DF587 said at 10:58 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Last week, the announce called him “The Bryce is Right, c’mon down”

  108. 108 P_P_K said at 10:59 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

    Not bad.

  109. 109 BobSmith77 said at 10:59 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Been a long, long time since the Eagles had a RB who shed tacklers like that after initial contact. Have to probably go back to Staley.

  110. 110 ChaosOnion said at 11:00 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

What can Brown do for you?

  111. 111 P_P_K said at 11:05 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

    Bad, Bad Bryce Brown.

  112. 112 DF587 said at 10:59 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

That pass looked closer than Harbor made it look

  113. 113 BobSmith77 said at 10:59 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

    Alex Henery . . . Eagles 2012 MVP!

  114. 114 Iskar36 said at 11:03 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Sadly, that might be a true statement.

  115. 115 shah8 said at 11:00 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

    Obviously, a reminder is needed…

    Run the Ball, Andy…

  116. 116 BobSmith77 said at 11:01 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Romo – 12 TDs, 15 INTs vs 4 TDs, 0 INTs vs Eagles. Possible to actually force a TO in Boys territory?

  117. 117 SteveH said at 11:01 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Wow… if I had any faith at all in the Eagles to stop the Cowboys offense…

  118. 118 A_T_G said at 11:02 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Most points scored in over 11 months.

  119. 119 BobSmith77 said at 11:04 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Agree with Mike Quick. Graham is having a great game. Babin had 2 tackles and no ‘Babins’ today.

  120. 120 DF587 said at 11:05 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Coleman late with help. Safety play is horrendous.

  121. 121 Iskar36 said at 11:05 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Wow, Coleman almost knock DRC off the tackle on that hit.

  122. 122 BobSmith77 said at 11:06 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

‘Send in the Clowns’ is the 2012 Eagles secondary theme. Embarrassing bad.

I would love to see where there stats rack up since the bye vs any stretch in Eagles’ history and in the NFL. I would bet it is historically bad.

  123. 123 Iskar36 said at 11:07 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Tommy’s <120 QB rating is looking like it is very much in danger.

  124. 124 Daz said at 11:08 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Romo completing more than 80% of passes…

  125. 125 ceteris_paribus1776 said at 11:07 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Worst safety play in the league. These guys are awful. I cant wait for them to be replaced.

  126. 126 DF587 said at 11:07 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Nate Allen played the outside along with DeMeco. Bad coverage. Safety play is horrendous. Broken record

  127. 127 Baloophi said at 11:08 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

    More like un-safety.

  128. 128 lilmc said at 11:08 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Is their any secondary playing worse than ours this year?

  129. 129 P_P_K said at 11:09 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

I’ll bet Asante is loving this.

  130. 130 BobSmith77 said at 11:09 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Tell me this isn’t perfect lyrics to describe Allen/Coleman this year:

    “Isn’t it rich?

    Are we a pair?

Me here at last on the ground,

    You in mid-air..

    Where are the clowns?

    Isn’t it bliss?

    Don’t you approve?

    One who keeps tearing around,

    One who can’t move…

The one thing I will say about this game is that there is absolutely 0 reason to put Vick in once he gets healthy. You need to see if this game was an anomaly or if Foles is making real improvements and can develop into a starter.

Wait a sec, I’m pretty sure I’ve read here that Fowles isn’t an NFL QB. Don’t we already know he doesn’t have what it takes???

  198. 198 Iskar36 said at 11:48 PM on December 2nd, 2012:

Fowles is definitely not an NFL QB. Foles however is still a complete unknown. I have been careful about writing him off so far this season, but I do think his first two games could not have been much more unimpressive. That being said, he is still a rookie and will continue to develop. The question becomes can he develop into a starting QB, or will we need to replace him.

  199. 199 Dan Koller said at 12:09 AM on December 3rd, 2012:

What are you trying to say in here? The truth is, you just got to see if Foles is progressing on various aspects of the game, each game. Show improvement, show enough positives, and you are likely to have him as your starter. I think he does plenty to win you this game, just like he did enough to win you the first Dallas game. I keep seeing positives plays out of him, and even though he misses a wide open B.Brown on the 2 pointer, it’s even a bit encouraging to see him make that throw into the endzone. It’s not a definite that brown turns inside and makes it in, whereas Avant was just as open and definitely inside the endzone.

  200. 200 Iskar36 said at 12:16 AM on December 3rd, 2012:

I probably was not as clear as I wanted to be, but in general, I fully agree with you. I do think we have to watch how Foles progresses and today was the best we have seen of him which is encouraging. Having said that, the first two games were unimpressive and discouraging, so while it is very nice to see major improvement, I don’t think you can just ignore those two games and simply say Foles will be a good QB for us. He has to continue to improve and show us that the first two games were a rookie making rookie mistakes rather than a QB who has limitations.

Again, I was encouraged by his play today, but he still has to improve significantly before you can trust him as your starter next season.
