PHI 17, DAL 10 – 2nd Half

Posted: December 2nd, 2012 | Author: | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 217 Comments »

Bryce Brown is a HOF player. Nick Foles, too. And Alex Henery. And Brandon Graham.

Not Kurt Coleman.

Or Doug Free.

Fun half. Do more of this and I can be happy for a whole day.

_

  • Baloophi

All I know is that nothing bad could possibly happen now.

    • http://twitter.com/daniel_suraci Daniel

What curses have you just brought upon us?!

  • Dragon_Eagle

Its almost been fun to watch again.

  • SteveH

Lets kick the Cowboys to the curb!!

  • bdbd20

I really hope we see someone jump into the Salvation Army pot.

  • http://twitter.com/daniel_suraci Daniel

I almost forgot Dez Bryant was on their team.

  • P_P_K

I could use a happy Eagles whole day.

  • Baloophi

Babin lost contain on that run.

    • TommyLawlor

      How dare you…

(I keep saying that to you a lot tonight)

  • Iskar36

    Wow that was ugly.

  • http://twitter.com/daniel_suraci Daniel

Comically bad angles. Make it black and white and it looks like Benny Hill.

    • laeagle

Benny hill was in color. You just need music and a funny little bald guy (Kurt Coleman?)

  • SteveH

How… how can the Eagles secondary be this bad… I just wish I could understand…

  • phillychuck

That was quick. I feel like we’ve lost a lot of first half leads on the first drive in the 3rd Q, but I might be remembering wrong.

    • Baloophi

Yes, but only because we haven’t had any first half leads.

  • lilmc

So much for the good feeling. Nice job D! Lots of pride on that side of the ball.

    • Baloophi

Extra gut-wrenching because they had Murray stopped on that 3rd and 1, and then let him get outside.

  • bdbd20

Yeah, nobody saw that drive coming. At least the defense forced them to score quickly so we can see more of Foles/Brown.

  • http://twitter.com/daniel_suraci Daniel

If we are letting young guys play, I’d like to see David Sims get in for Coleman. He looked solid in the New Orleans game against Jimmy freaking Graham.

    • Iskar36

Our secondary is going to need a major overhaul this offseason.

  • Iskar36

Nate Allen basically blocked two Eagles at the end of that catch and run.

  • TommyLawlor

    So much for the lead.

    • Baloophi

The sad part is how perfect we had to play to get it…

  • ceteris_paribus1776

I see sure angle Nate Allen was at it again on the Dez TD.

    • SteveH

What the hell was he doing on that play, I don’t know. Just ran right by.

      • TommyLawlor

        Bizarre.

      • BobSmith77

Didn’t think the safety play could be worse this year. It has been.

  • BobSmith77

Is there any QB in the NFL right now that wouldn’t look very competent to HOF vs this pedestrian defense?

    • Baloophi

Or the CFL. Or the NCAA. Or Pop Warner.

    • shah8

      Christian Ponder

  • bdbd20

Jerry: “How the hell do I get rid of this idiot after he breaks Troy’s record?”

    • http://twitter.com/dfowler587 DF587

Trade him to a division rival for a 2nd round pick. Then use that pick on a Safety who takes bad angles and is a mediocre tackler.

      • bdbd20

That would never work. What kind of bush-league organization would trade for the garbage of one of their rivals?

  • ChaosOnion

So can I be prematurely, super-excited about Foles now?

    Premature adulation?

  • Baloophi

Brown holds the ball like it’s a dirty diaper.

  • BobSmith77

If the Eagles had gone with this kind of more conservative & balanced play-calling, would the Eagles have won another game or possibly two? I have to think so.

    • TommyLawlor

Helps. Offense is also executing (esp. Foles).

    • shah8

The issue has been their OL. Looking better today, but nothing like last year. Of course, it didn’t help how committed they were to having Vick keeping plays alive and taking so many hits. Bryce Brown terrorizing the Dallas secondary has a lot to do with how much time Foles has.

  • BobSmith77

    Nice throw Foles.

  • SteveH

    FUCK YEAH!!!! #EAGLESYOUTHMOVEMENT

  • lilmc

    Whoo! Nice throw and catch!!

  • http://twitter.com/dfowler587 DF587

    What a catch!!

  • Iskar36

Lewis really got overlooked this season. I understand Brown is the logical backup to McCoy, but when Lewis has been given opportunities he has played well. He should have been getting a few touches here and there throughout the season.

    • SteveH

Agree 100%, I have no idea what his absence was about.

      • Ark87

He was in the dog house big time. I’ve hear speculation that his tumble down the depth chart and a diva attitude towards special teams got him deactivated a ton of games this season.

        • Iskar36

Has Polk made any plays on STs though? Also, does anyone know where to look up STs production points for the season?

    • nicolajNN

I still don’t understand why he has not been active over Polk, I think he’s in the Reid doghouse, maybe due to his off-season incident

      • Iskar36

Pulling a fire alarm is dumb, but you punish him for a game for that, not the season. We have had players do much more dumb things that have not been in the dog house that long.

  • shah8

The OL has settled down, but Bryce Brown has been heroic, and played a big role in diminishing that pass rush!

  • Ark87

Could the eagles…..be in a shootout?

  • Baloophi

Al Michaels keeps saying if you do a movie and want to cast an assistant coach, you go with Howard Mudd. I say, if you do a movie about Howard Mudd, you cast Anthony Hopkins…

    • TommyLawlor

      I’ll buy that.

  • TommyLawlor

    Terrific catch by Riley Cooper.

    • noah heulitt

And a great ball by Foles. Not to mention a great arm bar by Cooper

      • http://twitter.com/dfowler587 DF587

So far, the refs are letting the players play tonight. I don’t have a good feeling about that.

        • noah heulitt

Could definitely go either way. Might make life difficult with Dez

  • ceteris_paribus1776

I’ve been impressed with the play-calling, Brown, & Foles tonight. Makes a huge difference in settling the team

  • Baloophi

How about a rare turnover for our D?

    • bdbd20

      You’re joking, right?

      • Baloophi

It’d be a crazy surprise, right?

  • Baloophi

Nnamdi should be credited with an almost tackle on that.

    • BobSmith77

Schooled again in man-to-man. You haven’t heard the excuse this year about Nnadmi being misused in zone and playing well in man. Not sure why teams don’t even try to abuse him more when he is in man.

  • A_T_G

“The Phillies have won more recently than the Eagles.” That is a great stat.

So, matching, and hopefully topping our season high point totals gets Foles another start, right?

  • BobSmith77

    Need a stop.

    • BobSmith77

Terrible spot. What is Garrett doing?

  • A_T_G

4th and 1. Stand up Emmitt, push him back

  • bdbd20

Bad spot. Should be overturned. Good effort by the D, though.

  • Baloophi

This is a bad challenge for Dallas. Not enough to overturn the spot.

    • Iskar36

I don’t know about that. Seems like the refs have a clear view from above. I would be surprised if it wasn’t overturned.

  • TommyLawlor

Refs better not move this ball forward. No way to tell where it really was.

    • BobSmith77

Certainly doesn’t look conclusive on the replay although I thought it was a terrible spot initially.

      • TommyLawlor

Agree spot wasn’t great. They almost never move these. Of course, they do it in the Dallas game. Barf.

    • Iskar36

I gotta disagree with you on that one. You can see the ball on the angle from above and tell he is past/over top the yard marker. I would love for it to have been harder to see, but seemed like a clear blown call with a good replay to go back to.

  • SteveH

I’m not sure theres enough on the replay to overturn that. I think they marked him about a half a yard short but hey… shit happens.

  • Ark87

how do you not rush the field line up and run a play right there?

    • BobSmith77

It’s an Andy Reid team. His critics lampoon him for clock management but they are dead on on that issue. His teams are pretty much inept in all phases since he came here.

  • phillychuck

I think they got it, but I don’t know if the refs will overturn.

  • ChaosOnion

    They should move and measure.

  • Ark87

    wow…

  • BobSmith77

This was emblematic of two poor coaches. Reid doesn’t hurry up and run the play. Takes Garrett forever to throw the red flag when he should have thrown it right away.

  • A_T_G

A turnover now would really crush their momentum.

  • http://twitter.com/dfowler587 DF587

Here we go. The refs are starting to have an impact on the game. They’ve been invisible for 3 quarters. This doesn’t bode well for this undisciplined Eagles team.

  • SteveH

Now its time for the secondary to blow some more coverages. God I wish we could ship all of them to Siberia.

    • Baloophi

They’d probably get on the wrong boat.

    • Iskar36

I doubt we would be able to overhaul the entire secondary, but I’m not sure anyone deserves to remain as a starter next season.

      • BobSmith77

Nnamdi’s gone and Coleman won’t be back as a starter. Interesting to see if they think it is worth giving big money to DRC. No idea really if they do.

        • Iskar36

I just don’t see how you can justify giving big money to DRC. He has athletic ability, but has played incredibly inconsistent, and that has been true even before he came to the Eagles.

  • Baloophi

Holding four fingers up to indicate it’s the 4th quarter is one of the dumbest trends going. Where’s the love for the 2nd quarter?? I know I’ve been holding up one finger a lot this season…

  • http://twitter.com/dfowler587 DF587

On cue, Collinsworth. No big plays given up by this defense

    • http://twitter.com/dfowler587 DF587

Bad angle by Nate Allen. He should have been in position to draw a defenseless receiver penalty, but he’s soft. I loathe our safeties

  • SteveH

I wish we could just shoot our whole secondary. Asomugha is just a token defender out there right now.

  • ceteris_paribus1776

….and Nate Allen with the whiff, again…It’s getting old with these guys

  • BobSmith77

I would love to see a ‘Benny Hill’ video clip put together of the Eagles secondary since the bye.

    • TommyLawlor

      Ditto.

  • bdbd20

Chances are that we lose this game, but I think we’ve seen enough from Foles and Brown to be optimistic about the future here.

  • lilmc

Bowles was shouting watch the pass, maybe they all stopped to look at him.

    • Iskar36

I know Bowles is in a tough situation, but that seriously is no longer a justifiable excuse for him. That excuse basically implies that no matter what he does, he can’t be blamed, and that’s an unfair protection for him. Other coaches have stepped in and coached well, and while it is tough to do, Bowles has down a bad job at doing that.

  • Ark87

Man what I’d give to have a functional defense

  • A_T_G

I think some teams put a guy or two in the secondary that are supposed to serve as a safety net and stop those plays – I’m not sure what they call the position, but we should think about doing that too.

  • BobSmith77

Can this defense hold anybody to under 30 pts?

    • bdbd20

They do it all the time in practice.

  • BobSmith77

Brown is a one-man wrecking crew tonight.

  • P_P_K

Anybody got a nickname for Brown?

    • http://twitter.com/dfowler587 DF587

Last week, the announce called him “The Bryce is Right, c’mon down”

      • P_P_K

        Not bad.

      • BobSmith77

Been a long, long time since the Eagles had a RB who shed tacklers like that after initial contact. Have to probably go back to Staley.

    • ChaosOnion

What can Brown do for you?

      • P_P_K

        Bad, Bad Bryce Brown.

  • http://twitter.com/dfowler587 DF587

That pass looked closer than Harbor made it look

  • BobSmith77

    Alex Henery . . . Eagles 2012 MVP!

    • Iskar36

Sadly, that might be a true statement.

  • shah8

    Obviously, a reminder is needed…

    Run the Ball, Andy…

  • BobSmith77

Romo – 12 TDs, 15 INTs vs 4 TDs, 0 INTs vs Eagles. Possible to actually force a TO in Boys territory?

  • SteveH

Wow… if I had any faith at all in the Eagles to stop the Cowboys offense…

  • A_T_G

Most points scored in over 11 months.

  • BobSmith77

Agree with Mike Quick. Graham is having a great game. Babin had 2 tackles and no ‘Babins’ today.

  • http://twitter.com/dfowler587 DF587

Coleman late with help. Safety play is horrendous.

  • Iskar36

Wow, Coleman almost knock DRC off the tackle on that hit.

  • BobSmith77

‘Send in the Clowns’ is the 2012 Eagles secondary theme. Embarrassing bad.

I would love to see where there stats rack up since the bye vs any stretch in Eagles’ history and in the NFL. I would bet it is historically bad.

  • Iskar36

Tommy’s <120 QB rating is looking like it is very much in danger.

    • Daz

Romo completing more than 80% of passes…

  • ceteris_paribus1776

Worst safety play in the league. These guys are awful. I cant wait for them to be replaced.

  • http://twitter.com/dfowler587 DF587

Nate Allen played the outside along with DeMeco. Bad coverage. Safety play is horrendous. Broken record

  • Baloophi

    More like un-safety.

  • lilmc

Is their any secondary playing worse than ours this year?

    • P_P_K

I’ll bet Asante is loving this.

  • BobSmith77

Tell me this isn’t perfect lyrics to describe Allen/Coleman this year:

    “Isn’t it rich?

    Are we a pair?

Me here at last on the ground,

    You in mid-air..

    Where are the clowns?

    Isn’t it bliss?

    Don’t you approve?

    One who keeps tearing around,

    One who can’t move…

    Where are the clowns?

    Send in the clowns.”

  • A_T_G

Witten is going to be kicking himself if Coleman isn’t back next drive.

    • Iskar36

That’s why he was so concerned and went over there to make sure he was ok.

      • TommyLawlor

        Yeah, really.

  • ceteris_paribus1776

    That was just funny

  • DarthBanner

    DRC you pussy…

  • Iskar36

Why Colt Anderson? Why not put a guy who actually plays defense, Sims?

  • BobSmith77

    Ugh.

  • phillychuck

DRC just doesn’t know how to tackle. And we are horrible in the red zone on both sides of the ball.

  • Iskar36

Wow! And people want to give this guy an extension?

  • bdbd20

Does anybody remember Romo’s last incompletion?

    • A_T_G

Honestly, no. Was it this half?

  • A_T_G

    That looked… Assantinine.

    • TommyLawlor

      Truly.

  • noah heulitt

DRC is a joke. He is writing his goodbye’s as we speak. Can’t wait to see him somewhere else.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=548999324 Matt Hoover

sad part is he is so talented

  • http://twitter.com/dfowler587 DF587

I still blame the safeties for that TD. DRC can’t play up on Dez, because even with help, he has no help over the top.

  • SteveH

    The Eagles secondary everyone…

    • A_T_G

There is an idea. I wonder if we could replace our safeties with hurtles placed 20 yards deep.

  • ceteris_paribus1776

Sad that once the offense looks competent the D, is well, the Eagles defense.

  • lilmc

When is the last time Dallas punted?

    • BobSmith77

      Last 6 drives

      FG
      Punt
      TD
      TD
      TD
      TD

  • BobSmith77

I never want to see a player injured but is Coleman’s injury a positive by omission?

    • Iskar36

I would think so, but they put in Anderson, not Sims. Makes absolutely no sense. Anderson is a good STer, but does not belong on defense.

  • P_P_K

The Legend of Nick Foles begins now.

    • BobSmith77

Straight to video maybe next to ‘Remo Williams: The Adventure Continues’ in the $1 holiday bin.

  • Baloophi

We won’t need that timeout later…

  • Ark87

Seen this game a few times this year, eagles give up a lead in the 4th. In an effort to retake the lead, game ending turn-over. Depression

    • Iskar36

      Yep…

      • Ark87

        there it is

    • A_T_G

Why did you have to ruin the ending for the rest of us? A spoiler alert would have been appropriate.

      • Ark87

Sorry, I thought everybody saw this game already, my bad!

  • BobSmith77

    INT coming here

    • phillychuck

      Wrong family of turnovers.

  • Baloophi

    That was Romo-esque!

  • Iskar36

Great play by Foles on that throw to Maclin.

  • http://twitter.com/dfowler587 DF587

    Goodnight

  • Iskar36

Come on Brown! Hold on to that damn ball!

  • Baloophi

There you go! See you all later.

  • BobSmith77

Make Brown carry around a bag of flour the entire week. Protect the damn ball man.

    • P_P_K

Didn’t Tiki get some special coaching at one point to hold the ball better?

  • Iskar36

Lewis should play the rest of the game. Send Brown a message.

    • Daz

Agreed. But imagine the buzz on Brown over his last two games without those fumbles!

      • Iskar36

I’m excited about Brown long term, but you got to make him think about his fumbles.

  • BobSmith77

-18 Turnover differential now this year.

  • phillychuck

Brown needs the Tiki Barber drill–carry the ball higher. He is very inexperienced, so I think he can learn to secure the ball better.

  • TommyLawlor

    So discouraging.

  • phillychuck

Protecting the draft pick here…Foles making an effort to help out, but the CBoy drops it.

  • Iskar36

Ohhh, that was a terrible throw.

  • Iskar36

Why is Brown on the field? Where is the accountability? Get Lewis in there and let him get some playing time.!

  • DarthBanner

Seriously Marty? A running play on third and 18 down by 2 scores with under 3 minutes to go?

    • xeynon

Yup. That is the sign of a coaching staff at the end of its rope.

  • Iskar36

What the heck was that call? 3 and 19 and you run a draw? Let Foles try to make a play!

    • noah heulitt

      C’mon! It’s way easier to convert 4th and 17.

    • A_T_G

Knowing it is 4 down territory, trying to make it manageable. And Foles got up holding his arm on the sack. But, yeah…

      • P_P_K

Seeing him hold his arm was alarming.

  • shah8

Talent is just spread too thin.

  • ceteris_paribus1776

Defense was spectacular in the second half

  • SteveH

Tony Romo 10 for 10 passing in the second half. Unreal.

  • Iskar36

Wow. That was one hell of a wrap up tackle.

  • Ark87

    whose the Cowboy’s punter again?

  • BobSmith77

F@ck the Eagles just cost me the cover in my weekly pool. I was looking at possibly 12 wins vs spread this week.

    • Iskar36

This is the first time the Eagles have covered the spread all season.

    • P_P_K

This is the 1st time they’ve covered the Vegas spread (it was +10.5)

    • BobSmith77

Yeah and knocks me down to 4th in my over all pool out of 74 people instead of 3rd.

  • Iskar36

The one thing I will say about this game is that there is absolutely 0 reason to put Vick in once he gets healthy. You need to see if this game was an anomaly or if Foles is making real improvements and can develop into a starter.

    • BobSmith77

      100% agreed.

    • ceteris_paribus1776

Wait a sec, I’m pretty sure I’ve read here that Fowles isn’t an NFL QB. Don’t we already know he doesn’t have what it takes???

      • Iskar36

Fowles is definitely not an NFL QB. Foles however is still a complete unknown. I have been careful about writing him off so far this season, but I do think his first two games could not have been much more unimpressive. That being said, he is still a rookie and will continue to develop. The question becomes can he develop into a starting QB, or will we need to replace him.

        • http://twitter.com/Dan_Koller Dan Koller

What are you trying to say in here? The truth is, you just got to see if Foles is progressing on various aspects of the game, each game. Show improvement, show enough positives, and you are likely to have him as your starter. I think he does plenty to win you this game, just like he did enough to win you the first Dallas game. I keep seeing positives plays out of him, and even though he misses a wide open B.Brown on the 2 pointer, it’s even a bit encouraging to see him make that throw into the endzone. It’s not a definite that brown turns inside and makes it in, whereas Avant was just as open and definitely inside the endzone.

          • Iskar36

I probably was not as clear as I wanted to be, but in general, I fully agree with you. I do think we have to watch how Foles progresses and today was the best we have seen of him which is encouraging. Having said that, the first two games were unimpressive and discouraging, so while it is very nice to see major improvement, I don’t think you can just ignore those two games and simply say Foles will be a good QB for us. He has to continue to improve and show us that the first two games were a rookie making rookie mistakes rather than a QB who has limitations.

Again, I was encouraged by his play today, but he still has to improve significantly before you can trust him as your starter next season.

          • ceteris_paribus1776

I think you missed my point. I was commenting on the fact that some people have already written him off and the fact that he has shown some ability should cause the nay Sayers to pump the breaks a it as well

  • P_P_K

    First one all year!

  • Iskar36

Oh, he had Brown WIIIIIIIIIIIIDE open

  • BobSmith77

Eagles played hard tonight and I thought the effort was alot better in the 2nd half than last week even on defense.

    • A_T_G

Agreed. They didn’t lose for lack of effort.

      • http://www.facebook.com/xbcsmith Brett Smith

Umm…..did you miss the lack of effort from the Secondary?

Miles Austin running free and no one blows him up as he walks in the endzone…

Dez Bryant on a 6 yard out for a TD and DRC does nothing but try and help him carry the football?

I hope the next coach blows this secondary up.

  • SleepingDuck

Brown was wide open in the flat on the 2 point conversion..

  • A_T_G

On the plus side, we are still looking at a top-5 pick.

    • Ark87

Naive lunatics like me get to be excited about the young talent on offense. Cynical folks get their draft position. Everybody wins!

  • aub32

Anyone notice how much Foles chooses his WR before the snap?

  • BobSmith77

    KC won today and has:

    @ Cle
    @ Oak
    Indy
    Den

Need to root for KC to beat either Cleveland or Oakland

Just don’t see Jacksonville winning another game though:

    NYJ
    @Miami
    NE
    @Tenn

Very conceivable the Eagles will end up with at least #3 pick and possibly even #2. Don’t see the Eagles winning another game unless the Giants game is basically a glorified scrimmage.

    • A_T_G

Lets hope the Jets are good for another head scratcher.

  • http://www.facebook.com/xbcsmith Brett Smith

Nick Foles should punch DRCan’t Tackle, Assamungo, Bad Angle Allen, and Wrong turn Coleman in the stomach after the game.

I am not sure I have ever seen such an inept secondary. They are like the Keystone Cops… but I am not laughing.

  • BobSmith77

Romo now had 5 TDs, 0 INTs vs Eagles and 12 TDs, 15 INTs vs rest of NFL.

  • disqus_jB7dl5fzvO

    Poem for the eagles:

    You suck.
