NE at PHI – 2nd Half Thread

The defense? Not so good, to put it mildly. The run defense has been awful. That will be a major issue in practice this week. The pass defense has been up and down. Tom Brady made some great throws that ruined very good coverage. On plays like that, you just tip your cap to him. Brady is one of the greatest QBs in history.
STs looks vastly improved.
Mixture of good and bad, as we expected.
Can they stop showing Baldy’s pinky finger? That thing freaks me out.
Can they cut Baldy’s mic?
Against a powerhouse running team like the Pats, what did you expect?
Pats was actually a good running team last year
Curtis Marsh looked like DRC there.
Twice in a row.
atleast Wolff had the nerve to stick his nose in there to stop the touchdown
So Pats OL and RBs > Eagles backup safeties and LBs. Shouldnt really be a shock consider the back up safeties/LB is spare parts from the last 4 years of terrible run defense
Lagarette Blount is known to be an exceptional cutback runner. He should be able to run away from a defense. Need depth at LB
We knew the defense would get lit up. I’m thrilled the offense did well with both Vick and Foles. All in all, I feel good.
Optimistic about “o”.
Hopefully the D can figure it out and then stay healthy (because we have no depth), or it’s going to be a long year.
We don’t exactly have a lot of “shallow” either.
I think D will be good in the long run. Remember we are down to 3rd string D now.
Good in the long run as in next year or the year after?
I think during the year. We shouldnt expect a Texan like turn around and we have almost zero talent at safety
Not sure how “good” they will be, but they need to provide more than a speed bump for offenses. I won’t put too much stock in this first outing. Let’s see what they look like in first half of pre-season game three.
Oh, hello Danny, didn’t expect to notice you tonight, way to rise to the occasion
If we’re done talking about the game, can we talk about boobies?
Boobies?
Yep, nipple talk is welcome too.
Nipples?
haha
nice play by Wolff
For all the hype Salas has been getting, he hasn’t shown up tonight.
Sheppard hasn’t been that impressive either.
He seems to have Barkley’s trust, at least.
As bad as Barkley has looked with his reads, it’s hard to have an opinion about any of the receivers he’s playing with.
Has he played much?
For his sake, I hope not.
just scored
Knott playing well
having a nice few plays in a row, looked good earlier too
He’s had some good moments.
Those will be the last fgs missed against us for the season.
The problem is that they aren’t going for career long attempts or record setting attempts.
Yeah, the 70 yard blast with 02 seconds left with a 2pt lead is something that usually happens to us.
Looks like Chip came out of the game, and they sent Andy back in. Damn pre-season. Bad penalty, ironically worked out for field position
So, you think we start tackling to the ground this week?
Moving up to flags.
Nice throw
Worked past the nerves?
He had one like that earlier. Hopefully he’s going to get it going.
Now Baldy is stroking his balls. Hall Of Fame for Matt
Clay finally showing something, having a nice game.
Barkley starting to catch fire.
Nice
It is a shame we haven’t seen Hefty out there yet.
And like I said, Salas is really showing something tonight.
lol
We just need you to call all our players over-rated and we’re going to the super-bowl
Marsh ya gotta catch that
not having a good night, atleast it was good coverage.
Slow/stiff cornerback with bad hands…stop the project already. He isn’t an NFL cornerback.
Understatement of the night: Tebow [at QB] gives [the Patriots] a different look.
Anyone know who made this famous cheerleader chant up? “Try and score a touchdown you scumbags!”

…?
Aww Nice try. It was Steve Martin from his Wild And Crazy Guy Comedy record. Yeah I said record, so we’re going back to the 70’s there.
dammit!
It was a great guess considering you took a stab at it, I can imagine triumph saying that.
Die you gravy sucking pigs! Another Steve Martin chant, the other cheerleaders were so jealous they wouldn’t even use one of my cheers.
He wanted to be coach but they wouldn’t let him. “I had my own strategy, I used to like to punt on first down.” One of the better comedians of all time. lol
Hopefully Tucker is in shape by now
The old throw it 5 yards when you need 10 for a first down.
There is no way we are putting Celek back out there, right? So no more punts or field goals?
Nice to see them at least knocking Tebow down.
Hey they picked up the screen! Wow, that was nice.
…does Nick Miller have a tattoo of Jesus?
I think that is Tebow in the tattoo.
hahaha
So you’re agreeing with Corry?
Colt anderson actually hit that dude twice in one play
Dunno if I’m impressed or embarassed
I’d like to see Dixon and Vick play wideout with Foles behind center, and then reverse, flea flicker crazy bat shit all hell goes loose play.
…and Foles catches the pass 50 yards down field.
We can use that play to run out the clock.
Yep, like the McNabb against Dallas play, just run around and keep running. Four corners offense. lol
Nice look down by Dixon, waited a long time.
I don’t think Felix makes this team.
I’m rooting for him because of the fact I’d love to see him shove it right up the Cowboys’ ass with an Eagle uniform on.
Didn’t work out so well with Chris Boniol.
Ohh the bad memories.
That would be nice, but a 7th rounder and two undrafted guys beating out their former first, then running wild while LeSean rests would be okay too.
It’s really a feel-good story if you dehumanize him as a washed up cowboy.
Nothing burns an ass like seeing your player come back and kick your ass.
We need a touchdown two point conversion and an extra point. Heard great things about the Kelly offense, make it happen Chip!
check it out, safety, TD….and a 2 pt conversion, because field goals and extra points just ain’t happening.
Yeah I was using a little, very little, humor in pretending that Chip can pull all that off with his great new innovative offense.
Crazy catch!
That’s my boy! I’ve been singing his praises for the last 15 minutes.
ha, ha, ha…
I can vouch for you there! +
lol
look at GJ! Look out Dixon
What a poopy play to end the game. Did they call Andy for that one?
Yeah, really. Why didn’t the running back try to throw it after getting into the line?!
on the way down facing the wrong direction
We could just go on and on, have to get that Andy taste out of our mouth, but it’ll take awhile.
HOF or not Warren Sapp is a freaking moron.. i can’t stand listening to that noise he calls analysis coming out of his mouth. I thought those guys in studio watch the game. Then the could of realized our LS was hurt and we already rolled a snap on a FG attempt so yea oh course we’re gonna go for 2. Geez i wish there was a hall of stupid to induct Sapp into as well
I wonder what kind of jackets they would give inductees? Straight?
Didn’t Sapp sell his SB ring cause he’s broke?
haha he claims he doesn’t know where his SB and college championship rings are. Broke ass jerk sold them that’s why.
The Raiders are running for chunks against the ‘Boys.
They can spew chunks on them too.
Vick, Jackson, Foles, Bryce Brown….Not that I look hard, but it seems the O-line was good and our QB won’t be blasted this year.
Eagles impressed in some drives. D needs time. O was erratic at times. Some players stood out… Currey i.e.
So torn between Vick and Foles as the starter. Vick is a human highlight reel and every game I think it’s going to turn into Monday night against Redskins. Couldn’t throw the touchdown pass to Desean any better tonight either. That being said 2011-2012 did happen…and Vick is on a one year deal…and he is in his mid 30s and relies on athleticism to be successful so don’t see that as getting better, only worse. Durability is a huge concern too. Vick as the starter would mean a different offense than Foles/Barkley. WHEN he gets hurt and misses the typical 5-7 games a year the team would need to change the offense and would seem to get set back from a continuity standpoint. Foles starts and you don’t need to change a think with Barkley as the backup. Same system and the team can continue to build with young talent.
I think we can win a few games this year (5-8) with both but why go with the aging veteran with durability concerns when your window isn’t now (see Eagles tackling and gap assignments). I think Foles starting with Barkley as the backup is the way to go this year.
I think Chip is going to go with who helps him win this year. No, this doesn’t appear to be a team that will make a deep playoff run, but need to establish a winning culture again. It will be fun seeing how this pre-season plays out, and who does end up starting.
So what do you do if Vick starts and has a good year? Would be a serious contract/age issue I wouldn’t like to deal with if I was Howie Roseman.
I would love it if Vick has a good year, but we both know that even if Vick has a good year, he’ll miss some games. Durability tends to breakdown with age and Vick already has durability issues.
Vick could be very dynamic in this offense if he is able to get the ball in the other play makers hands.
Is Vick 33/34? Could he play at a high level in Chip’s O for the next 2-3 years? I don’t know. His durability would be my biggest concern.
He’s not going to be the long term starter, but he can be an entertaining one for this year if it works out.
I still think that the long term starter is not on the roster yet. No disrespect to Foles or Barkley.
I’m personally very disappointed in the defense. The same problems with lack of effort and missed tackles we saw last year were worse, if anything. Is it some sort of curse that post-Jim-Johnson we are required to play stupid and make lots of fundamental mistakes?
D was hard to watch, but they are facing more challenges than the offense is, and we know that the talent pool on the defensive side was less than the offensive side when Chip came in.
It is hard seeing them play so poorly. We have a proud tradition of playing tough, smart, sound defense and we haven’t seen that enough these past few years.
You would think that is going to be the main focus for Bill Davis now. Scheme doesn’t matter too much when you blow gap assignments and can’t tackle. I just have no patience for poor fundamentals at this level. It’s like watching a high school game…
I thought Vinny Curry was going to be an afterthought and be out of position in this new scheme…BEAST tonight!
My conclusions:
1. Vick and Foles both looked great. Barkley showed some good flashes of potential, but needs some work.
2. The starting offensive line played well. Lane Johnson did great, especially at run blocking.
3. I can’t really think of any play calls in the first half that I would disagree with from Kelly. I was expecting the tight ends to get more receptions, and more read option plays, but my hunch is Chip is saving them for the regular season.
4. The starting defensive front seven looked awful. Fletcher Cox disappointed me tonight. Cedric Thornton struggled. DeMeco Ryans didn’t play his A-game (although he doesn’t usually have his A-game in preseason). Graham generated more pressure than Cole did, but he still needs to get to the quarterback faster. Barwin looked ok. Vinny Curry showed that he deserves a chance to steal Thornton’s spot.
5. Donnie Jones is definitely going to be the Eagles’ punter. He looked awesome.
6. The Eagles special teams units were way more crisp than the 2012 team. And that was true even when Celek had to be the long snapper. (speaking of which, Howie needs to sign a guy to fill in for Dorenbos ASAP)
