Oh wait…
Ugly half for Nick Foles and the offense. Give Dallas credit for playing the run well. Foles has struggled. He’s missed open guys. Held the ball too long early on. Apparently Nick doesn’t want to steal Vick’s job.
Chip Kelly needs to figure out something to get the offense going. This is a winnable game, but not if you can’t score.
Kudos to Bill Davis and the defense for a good half.

Or it could just be that he’s having a bad game.
His good play over the previous six quarters came in a small sample size. His bad play today has come in an even smaller sample size. That’s not regression. Regression is a phenomenon that happens over the longer term, which is why you generally need to see a young quarterback start for at least an entire season before you start to get an idea about whether he’s good or not.
Is the story here really the o-line failing to create holes for McCoy?
Dallas’s depleted D-line have certainly played pretty well, both against the run and the pass. Plays have been there to be made, though.

The problem is that neither of our quarterbacks are good enough to execute this offense to its potential.
We really, really need a guy who can run and throw the deep ball better than Foles, and get the ball out quicker and be more accurate on short throws than Vick.
Defense can’t keep this pace, i really hope we make some adjustments on offense.

Well guys we’re still facing Romo. The chances of him choking and losing the game for them is about 87% if we don’t let them score again.

I look at it like this, if they had not called that when it happened to an Eagle receiver, and I saw it that clearly, I’d flip. I wouldn’t care calls were made or missed earlier.

Sadly yes. I would love to see new stadiums that opened the last 10 years and W/L records there. Eagles will be at least 7 or 8 games better on the road since the Linc opened if they lose today.

Eagles need a score this next drive. Even a FG. Can’t see the Eagles hanging around if they go 3 and out or only make a first down. Defense started to sag even a bit that last drive.

There are some good prospects but no Lucks or Griffins in this draft class. The problem is if you don’t have a quarterback you don’t have anything. You have to take a chance on an imperfect prospect and hope you hit the jackpot.
You mean the people that said, yeah, he’s going to have bad games here and there. We want to see how he responds. See if he can improve and become what we know Vick can’t. Those people? I doubt they’ve changed their minds.
I think it’s likely the people who want Marcus Mariota, Tajh Boyd, or Johnny Manziel over either of them are the ones who are right.

That hasn’t been the issue. Eagles aren’t getting any push but more importantly any opening has been closed very quickly. Boys have been bringing up at least one S to cheat on almost every running set.

Yup. Boys apparently have no respect for any of the Eagles WRs besides Jackson or Foles ability to throw it deep. Getting almost ridiculous how often they are bringing up a safety into the box on 1st and 2nd down.
I agree. Happen to believe Foles is not the future either.
The problem with this theory is that defenses with fast, strong man-to-man cornerbacks have always been able to neutralize the deep ball to Jackson. That’s been true whether the quarterback was McNabb, Vick, or Foles. As fast as Jackson is, he is not a guy who will come down with contested balls very often, and the truly great deep receivers are the guys who can do that (Larry Fitzgerald, Randy Moss, etc.).

Looks to me that he’s more just failing to execute routine throws. Except for that pass to Jackson, I haven’t seen him make a bunch of bad decisions or fail to make reads. He’s just not making the throws that are there.

I don’t really think that’s true. The difference between Foles and Ponder is that he *can* make some routine throws on a consistent basis. He just can’t shift to a higher gear when he has to make a plus play, or do something outside of his comfort zone.
Foles is seeing ghosts and playing with the other team in his head. We feed the D deliver some momentum.
I am taking back what I said earlier. Seen enough of Foles. Let’s see if Barkley can play today.

– Overthrow to Celek before the end of the half.
– Underthrow to Avant in the end zone at the end of the 3rd.
Relatively good performance by the D today (so far)… would still like to see better situational awareness (i.e. “play better on 3rd down”).

Well, as bad as this game was, it still only counts 1 on the league table.
Matt Barkley clearly needs to learn that NFL linebackers are allowed to drop back in zone coverage.
New theory: The afternoon shadows on the field adversely affected quarterback play… but only for our team.
Romo has been pretty bad too. He only looks good in comparison to the black hole of awful that is the Eagles’ QB play in this game.
There is so much to hate about this game but that call to kick a 60yd field goal with 14 seconds left and a time out really sums it up for me 🙁 oh & Foles. 11 for 29 80 yds is AWESOME too.
I was pretty upset about that call, but in hindsight, I don’t think it’s as tragic as it felt. Let’s say you get the first down (with a run) and then call your last timeout with 11 seconds left? You’re still looking at a 58 yard FG or one chance at a sideline pass?
Granted I agree – it’s still better than simply kicking a 60 yard field goal – but doesn’t feel as important as those bad throws.

A huge game by FOles today wouldn’t have made him the QB of the future..and a bad game doesn’t mean that he isn’t…
I agree, but you have to admit that unless there is some mitigating reason for Foles’ atrocious play today (e.g. an undiagnosed concussion or an injury that was affecting his throwing motion) this game can’t count as anything other than a major strike against him.
I think it’s looking more and more likely that we need to be thinking about drafting a franchise quarterback next April.

I agree and I think if Vick had played today this game would have been very different. He gives the Cowboys fits.
I love your constitutional optimism, but 1.)Vick is not likely to stay healthy, 2.)Vick has not been that great when he has been healthy, and 3.)the defense has been aided by a lot of penalties and bad plays by the Cowboys. It’s still the 32nd ranked unit in the NFL.

Manziel is a bit of a punk but talent wise I think he’s Tony Romo without quite the same penchant for boneheaded interceptions. Definitely a guy I’d consider. Boyd I haven’t seen enough of to have a firm opinion (not really an ACC guy).

For me, what I’m most interested in finding out from Tommy’s DGR is what kind of separation the WR were getting. We need to find out so that we can know just how bad it was for FOles…of course, Herremans and all the drops didn’t do FOles any favors…Chip,Shady and the Oline were pathetic against the run(and I don’t want to hear a peep about Vick in the run game), because if the only way you can run the ball with the second best Back in the league is with a read option and a mobile QB , then you have no business coaching in this league…Fortunately I don’t think that’s the case with Chip….

I can count probably 10 plays where foles just flat missed wide open players.
Chip needs to make them all run penalty laps all practice long – until they lose their lunch/breakfast/last night’s dinner. The D is excused from the laps.
Didn’t see this coming. I went on What If Sports simulator and Cowboys were predicted to win between 60-70% of the time.
However, I disregarded low scores. Who knew we’d have a defensive struggle? Maybe Monte’s issues at SC were because of his boy 🙂

The defense played out of their minds. Such a horrid offensive performance is bound to inflate the other team’s score because they just kept getting the ball over and over.

O-Line and receivers didn’t do him any favors, but no question about it, Foles looked horrible. Had some opportunities to make some plays and just missed. That throw to Avant in the endzone was an easy TD.
Disappointed in the run game, didn’t look like anyone on the line could ever get to the next level.
It’s the run game, wide receivers not being able to get open, and the play calling. But when Vick struggles it’s because he can’t read blitzes and doesn’t let his receivers make a play on the ball
