NYG 12, PHI 0 – 2nd Half

Posted: October 27th, 2013 | Author: | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 399 Comments »

Mike Vick is out and Matt Barkley is in. Vick really struggled. He didn’t look healthy and was hesitant with his reads. The offense struggled so Chip Kelly replaced him with Barkley late in the 2nd Qtr.

Barkley then led the Eagles right down the field. Unfortunately he made a horrible decision in the Red Zone and held the ball way too long. He was sacked, fumbled and the Giants recovered.

Barkley was 6-7-55. The offense came to life with him in the game. Was that a fluke or can he keep the offense going in the 2nd half?

This is still a very winnable game. The Eagles get the ball to open and a TD could really change things.

Barkley has to be smart in the Red Zone. Can’t force things. Might help if Chip Kelly ran the ball and gave Shady a chance to make a play down there.

  • BlindChow

I won’t believe Barkley can complete a scoring drive until it actually happens.

  • DarthBanner

Awful job by Kelly at the end of the half. Run the damn ball on 1st and goal from the 2 with 1 minute left and 2 timeouts. Why is he in such a hurry to give the ball back to the giants with time left to do something, especially when the eagles get the ball to start the half? If he just manages the situation correctly his rookie QB isn’t in a position to make the critical error.

    • GEAGLE

      Preach

    • GermanEagle

CK is becoming a worse play caller than AR in his first season.

      • shah8

Remember NO last year? Reid was worse… Passing on your first down shouldn’t be a crime.

  • SteveH

I feel like Chip has lost confidence in the run today. Seems like he’s gotten away from it and honestly I’m not sure I blame him. OL has not been opening up anything for anyone.

  • Allen3000

I’m really disappointed in Chip’s play calling there at the 2 yard line. Sure, Barkley held on to the ball too long, but seriously, hand the freakin’ ball off to McCoy or somebody on 1st down. Don’t get cute. You’re down 12-0, you need those points. Ugh.

  • T_S_O_P

If the Giants have to respect the pass, maybe we can run??? The last game and a half, must be the longest ever we have had with completely ineffective QB play since the Brad Goebel era! :-(

    • BlindChow

It depends on who’s making the tackles. If it’s defensive linemen beating their blocks, then a competent passing game won’t make a difference.

    • A_T_G

And if they don’t have to respect the pass in the second half, the G.J. Kinne era can begin. Win, win, really.

    • BobSmith77

      Put in Pat Ryan?

  • BobSmith77

This is basically the first ‘gut check’ for the Eagles this year. Curious to see how they respond in the 2nd half especially on opening drive where the O-line got outmuscled and manhandled in the 1st half.

    • BlindChow

I think Barkley gave them a spark going into half time, even with the fumble.

  • pkeagle

My faith in Chipper is being severely tested at the moment. First time he’s faced a team for the second time and he seems clueless – don’t put all the blame on just the players

    • Iskar36

No question that Chip is to share in part of the blame.

  • GEAGLE

Can we score a point at the Linc?

  • bdbd20

So I’m thinking Foles passes his IMPACT test this week. Just a feeling.

  • Dragon_Eagle

As awful as that 1st half was, I am (foolishly) heartened by the fact that this is the Giants-Eagles. Games are invariably odd and come down to late game weirdness.

    • Always Hopeful

We almost got what you said…not to be a homer but wasn’t THAT offensive pass interference on Myers when he two hand shoved Kendricks away from him? Just saying…

  • BobSmith77

Hopefully Kelly gave them a little Pacino-like pep talk at halftime.

  • A_T_G

Johnson returned one past the 20! There is the spark we need.

  • BobSmith77

Lack of concentration penalty. Can’t have that.

  • A_T_G

    Barkley’s cadence gives everyone trouble.

  • BobSmith77

    Finally some push up front.

  • A_T_G

I am pretty sure Barkley won’t be keeping any of those read options. We are on our last QB.

    • Dragon_Eagle

      No. Casey is active.

      • BlindChow

        Johnson has some experience there…

  • BlindChow

    Soooo…FG or turnover?

    • Dragon_Eagle

TD – can’t be wrong twice.

    • bdbd20

      Well, that was different.

      • BlindChow

        The Eagles FIND A WAY.

  • DamonL86

    Sigh

  • DamonL86

    That is pathetic

  • Insomniac

    Cooper was open…

  • GEAGLE

    I can’t take Chip Kelly..

  • Corry

    We’re going to get shutout.

    • GEAGLE

      We deserve it

    • TommyLawlor

Nah, Barkley is moving the ball. Points will come.

      • GermanEagle

        Dream on.

  • shah8

Is it me, or is that crowd at the stadium emo-vamps? Feels dead on that big third down…

    • Iskar36

Can you blame anyone? Not much to cheer for with this team right now.

      • A_T_G

Did you already forget? Johnson returned it to the 24!

    • bdbd20

You can only give your fans crap for so long. We have the luxury of changing the channel. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a lot of early exits.

  • Dragon_Eagle

What? Last week, in the wind, we go for a 60 yarder. This week, we do what?

    • TommyLawlor

The wind was at Henery’s back last week.

  • Insomniac

    Yea….back to studying for midterms..

  • GermanEagle

    LolEagles.

  • pkeagle

They may not have scored but Barkley didn’t turn the ball over either I suppose :-)

    • Iskar36

Well… turnover on downs is still a turnover in a sense… I guess it’s not directly put on Barkley though.

      • pkeagle

        That’s what I meant

    • shah8

      It’s a turnover on downs.

  • shah8

Looking at box scores, I’m definitely pining for Josh Gordon. Look at it, and realize that Jason Campbell is a conservative passer. Gordon has to be absolutely plastering a good KC defensive backfield.

  • Dragon_Eagle

    Dawkplex!!

  • GEAGLE

ATleast we just spiked Cruz thru the turf

  • Corry

    Bradley Fletcher just Dawkplexed Cruz.

  • SeanofDead

Nice Suplex there by Fletcher….. I would have gone with a tombstone pile driver, but, to each his own.

    • Corry

      People’s Elbow.

    • bdbd20

      Powerbomb.

  • DarthBanner

Soo, is Kelly trying for the shutout?

  • GermanEagle

Why do we always get ex cowgirls Or gnats commentators lately? Why would you throw a flag, for a frigging body slam?!!

    • A_T_G

Yon can hurt someone’s feelings doing that!

  • Dragon_Eagle

    Nate friggin Allen.

    • bdbd20

That actually looked like a good football play.

      • Iskar36

Wait, that’s not right. I didn’t think we were allowed those today.

        • Corry

It’s allowed on Defense. Just not on Offense.

    • BobSmith77

2nd big hit of the game for him on a big play.

  • Flyineagle45

    i hate this

  • SeanofDead

Hey, DBS out there making tackles again

  • pkeagle

    Allen getting better each week

    • shah8

      yes, yes he is…

      • Flyineagle45

he must have heard my cries’

    • A_T_G

      Agreed

  • GEAGLE

That’s exactly what I was talking about in the diffence defending crossing routes..we got killed early in the season because Nate was scared to death. Look at the difference now that Nates balls finally dropped

    • A_T_G

Glad to see you on board.

  • DamonL86

    That is awful

    • bdbd20

I believe the correct term is “Clowney”

  • ACViking

2 weeks ago, we all said the Offense will win and the defense will tag along.

Right now, we’re looking like the 1971 Vikings . . . but without the D-line.

    • shah8

The OL is playing very poorly, outside of just two drives. One pass blocking was good, the other, run blocking was good.

    • A_T_G

If there is a team that is memorable 40 years later, we do not look like them. We are thoroughly forgettable.

  • BobSmith77

You can blame the play calling but that is the third time this game on 3rd and short where the Eagles ran and their o-line got blasted back. Doesn’t matter what the call is which just a poor effort & execution.

  • GermanEagle

I’d be shocked if the Eagles win this. The Giants outplay us on offense, defense and special teams.

    • DamonL86

I will be shocked if we put up points

      • GermanEagle

According to Tommy our time will come…

  • Weapon Y

This week you’re going to hear a lot of Chip Kelly-Steve Spurrier comparisons on ESPN. “Go back to college, chump. Clearly you aren’t as good as that genius Andy Reid who made an offensive assistant coach his defensive coordinator.”

    • BlindChow

Possibly, but he may get slack on account of Barkley.

      • Flyineagle45

i hear andy is considering bringing his personal chef in as an advisor

      • Weapon Y

ESPN doesn’t give anyone slack especially not the Eagles

  • GermanEagle

If anybody really thinks that Chip doesn’t want/need an athletic QB in his offense is INSANE.

    • Flyineagle45

      Cam

      • Flyineagle45

im talking to howie about it right now

    • Iskar36

Yea, that’s what I’m starting to believe. All that talk about “He could run a successful offense with Brady” I’m starting to question.

      • GermanEagle

That talk was utterly rubbish. I will be shocked if Mr Football won’t be wearing Eagles green next year.

      • GEAGLE

If Chip can’t run the ball with the best back in the NFL without having a mobile QB, then he has no business being here,,,and his pass offense had WR open all game last week but FOles sucked

  • BlindChow

Eli keeps stealing sacks from our defense.

    • SeanofDead

Was just thinking I’d like to see Intentional Groundings Forced as a stat on defense

      • Corry

They should just count as a sack. It’s really just as good.

  • ACViking

    Eagles starting at the 5 . . .

NOW we will hear the NFL Films music as Barkley pulls a Ken Stabler and marches the Eagles downfield

    • TommyLawlor

That would have been so nice.

  • BlindChow

3rd and long. I smell trouble.

  • GEAGLE

    BRAMA BULL BARWIN!!!!

  • Corry

Connor Barwin is the only player who deserves to be paid today.

    • bdbd20

The entire D has played well. Offense has put them in horrible position all day.

      • Corry

True, I’m just tired of the uninspired play on one half of our team.

    • Dragon_Eagle

Disagree. Defense is putting together another solid game. Offense is just embarrassing.

    • Flyineagle45

      ill take a check

    • Spooonius

I think the D is solid. They’re giving us a chance.

  • DamonL86

    Comical

    • Flyineagle45

      yea this movie sucks

  • GEAGLE

Geez Barkley can’t start backed up like this

    • OregonDucker

It is a very, very dangerous situation.

  • TommyLawlor

The defense has played better since Barkley came in the game. No points, but at least some hope. Helps the D to play with more energy.

    • Flyineagle45

hey get howie on the horn and tell him to get newton!

  • ACViking

    This game is NOT over.

    Yes, Barkley looks shaky.

But the defense is playing 1980-style Eagles football.

All the Eagles need is 1 turnover and TD.

    They can win this game.

    • Iskar36

Nope.. That’s only 7 to 12. We need more than that, and I’m not sure we’ll get it.

      • ACViking

What I meant is . . . then the Birds have Big Mo

  • BlindChow

Jesus, will Barkley KEEP the ball ONCE??

  • DamonL86

    Great awareness

  • ACViking

    Re: Intentional Grounding

I’ve never seen a season when more IGs have been called.

  • DamonL86

What are you doing run forward

  • BlindChow

    God you are kidding me.

  • scratcherk

Why did Jackson avoid the first down? Is he tired of the offense being on the field?

    • Dragon_Eagle

Scared my dog yelling about that one.

      • Corry

yeah, both my dogs are cowering at the moment.

      • BlindChow

        He deserves a treat.

    • bdbd20

I really hope DJax isn’t pouting about Vick. That play was an easy first down. The effort on the punt was also concerning.

  • Corry

Holy shit if he just keeps running he gets the first!

    • Spooonius

yeah, i thought the same thing about Cooper’s catch earlier. Too much ‘playmaking’

  • scratcherk

    This season is becoming unwatchable.

  • jshort

    here comes another score

  • OregonDucker

    30 yard punt? What? SMH

  • mksp

Wow, Barkley put that ball on the money. DeSean and Shady are not playing well. Starts with the QB, but neither is getting it done to this point. Too much dancing, diving. GET UPFIELD.

  • Insomniac

Can we see what Kinne can do yet?

    • Flyineagle45

all our qbs are pretty much career backups im done seeing what they can do… and dont care what they potentially can do because I doubt its good

  • pkeagle

Typical Iggles – as D improves over the past few weeks, the O regresses

  • GermanEagle

lol @ value pick (Matt Barkley).

    • mksp

      That was on DeSean.

      • DamonL86

yeah that was horrible effort by desean

      • GermanEagle

I meant to say that Barkley and Chip don’t match. Waste of

  • ACViking

Anyone think DeSean’s head is in this game?

    • Flyineagle45

no hes thinking of lyrics for his next song

  • ACViking

    T-LAW . . .

    NOW we hear the music.

    • A_T_G

Is it a fat lady singing?

  • Weapon Y

I can just hear Merrill Hoge now: “The Eagles never should have fired Andy Reid. He was a genius who never did anything wrong. They should be ashamed for disrespecting this man by hiring a college coach. And everyone knows college coaches are total idiots.”

  • shah8

I may just give up on this game and watch the Browns KC. That one looks competitive…

  • GEAGLE

You know what the REAL JOKE is? Not that we can’t win a home game… The joke is that we can’t even lose a home game by less than 10 points…..I can’t take it!!! I seriously want to cry

  • BlindChow

    And Kendricks misses a tackle.

    • bdbd20

He’s played well. Can’t blame him for trying too hard. They have to know that the game is essentially over.

  • Flyineagle45

we should have sucked for luck and called it a day we have pretty much been horrible since then

  • OregonDucker

I need something for the pain – alcohol is not working.

    • bdbd20

Take a Bridgewater or a Mariota.

      • Iskar36

Not available. Already claimed by the plethora of teams that are actually worse than us…

        • GermanEagle

          Is that even possible?

          • Iskar36

What’s sad is… Giants may have their choice of Clowney OR one of the top QBs.

        • bdbd20

Ok, take the generic. I belive it’s called Boyd-Hundley.

          • Iskar36

            Hahahaha.

    • jshort

      rewatch a ducks game

      • shah8

Going to watch one more possession, and then move on if the same results happen.

        • pkeagle

I think it’s time to check out

    • Andy124

      Prescription: more alcohol.

  • ACViking

Sad to say Merrill Hoge is looking like a Prophet.

I wonder what Kelly’s really thinking right now — deep down in that place he never let’s anyone in?

    • mksp

Right now I’m more worried about whether he’s lost the locker room or not. Playmakers on offense just aren’t playing hard.

  • Jerry Goldstein

Why is Kelly calling read-option plays with a non-mobile QB?

    • SteveH

If barkley would keep one even with his limited mobility he could easily get a bunch of yards. No idea why he’s not keeping it.

      • shah8

Because if you can’t get more than about five to ten yards, the defense is more than happy to have extra opportunities to hit the QBs. Only really works if the defense is afraid of 15-25-+ runs.

        • SteveH

I’ll take 5-10 yards on 3rd and 1 all day.

          • shah8

Quarterback sneak will work too, you know…

Sometimes, just sometimes, you really might want to run the offense with the QB behind center. You don’t have the options available at WR, and you don’t have the mobility at QB to manipulate d-box setup, to go shotgun everytime.

      • GermanEagle

Well, maybe because he is SLOW?!!

    • Andy124

I’m guessing there’s no pull option on those play calls.

    • Dragon_Eagle

The coaching staff has to get on Barkley to do the “read” part.

    • OregonDucker

A non-mobile QB can pass on the option.

  • GermanEagle

if you thought last season was a nightmare, watch out for Chip Kelly’s Eagles in 2013. I can’t take this any more.

    • Flyineagle45

well he got left with andy’s scraps….

      • GermanEagle

I start to believe Chip’s hire being overhyped…

        • ACViking

That’s only because the Eagles’ Offense — i.e., Chip Kelly’s specialty — has gotten less effective over the course of the season.

  • Flyineagle45

    i hate them

  • ACViking

The Giants and Cowboys — with terrible D-lines and run defenses — have made Kelly’s running game look amateurish.

It’s all about a running QB, apparently.

Can’t be the O-line. If it is, then the Eagles are YEARS from winning.

    • OregonDucker

It helps if your QB does not fumble, throw ints, and does not make bad decisions on the read-option.

      • GEAGLE

It would help if our coach did waste 6 months of first team reps on Vick

  • Weapon Y

Desperate times call for desperate measures: let’s sign Tim Tebow

    • BlindChow

      Couldn’t look any worse, I guess…

    • bdbd20

That’s usually the counter-argument to “It couldn’t be any worse”

      • Weapon Y

Tell that to Broncos fans who had to suffer through Kyle Orton

    • Andy124

Desperate measures, not H-Back measures. We already have one of those that plays QB, James Casey.

      • GEAGLE

RB with a big arm? Don’t you mean Vick? He had more mobility today than Brady or manning…why did he leave the game? :)

  • ACViking

Time of possession DOES matter when your offense can’t score.

At some point, your defense begins to weaken. Then break.

    • GEAGLE

      Tell that to the genius

    • SteveH

OK, Chip Kelly’s assertion is that TOP is overrated because what actually matters is the number of snaps that really matters, because if a team like the Giants is taking the clock down to 1 before every snap, is the defense working during that time? Snaps are the guaranteed work, which is why he is preoccupied with that stat as opposed to TOP. Kelly is not saying he is not worried about his defense getting tired, he is saying that the metric that measures that is snaps, not time of possession.

  • Corry

it’s 15-0, but it may as well be 70-0.

    • Dragon_Eagle

Nonsense. Defense looks perfectly capable of coming up with 2 TDs. We’re still in this.

  • GEAGLE

Billy “Jethro” Davis for head coach? Lol…. No?

  • Flyineagle45

fire sale just trade pretty much everyone

    • Jerry Goldstein

      Start with the arrogant ‘Seans.

      • Flyineagle45

        ummm no u keep shady

        • Jerry Goldstein

The guy that admitted to dogging it last week? No thanks.

          • Flyineagle45

whats the point in being a try hard when u see what this clown cars doing

          • Jerry Goldstein

I can see the value in that opinion but don’t you want guys on the team that give their all regardless?

  • jshort

hope Tommy skips a DRG this week

    • bdbd20

PBR stock is going up this week.

  • DamonL86

    Stop holding the ball

  • ACViking

Say what you want about Eli Manning . . .

The guy stands in the pocket and isn’t afraid to throw the ball anywhere on the field to any spot on the field.

After the past two weeks . . . The Eagles offense is looking like a bad gimmick

    • Jerry Goldstein

Gimmick is exactly what I think when I think of Chip Kelly all of a sudden. Very sad.

    • BlindChow

These same players looked just as bad last year.

      • mksp

        Yup.

  • onemorebop

I woke up at 4AM on a Monday for this game. Going to work as soon as it ends. Sigh.

    • Flyineagle45

huh where the heck r u

      • onemorebop

Australia … the only other NFL fan in my building goes for the Giants. Looks like it’ll be an awesome week.

        • Crus57

Well look at it this way, thanks to the time difference your week will be over before ours.

  • DamonL86

    Why are we punting

    • BlindChow

      Seriously, WTF?

    • TommyLawlor

I’m not a fan either, but the hope is to pin the Giants deep.

    • GEAGLE

It’s the least embarrassing thing to do…plus our defense has a better chance of scoring

    • bdbd20

White flag. No need to make the bleeding worse. Let the Giants milk the clock and leave the game feeling good about the D.

  • ACViking

Dove è il mio amico, GEagle?

    • GEAGLE

Did you think I was joking about the suicide pact? Lol
      ….
I said the defense would have to carry us today but I didn’t get the memo that we were facing the steel curtain

      • ACViking

Even better than your suicide pact comment.

  • mksp

Man, a couple of rough games with backup QBs and poor performances by your “stars” and you guys are ready to give up on the Chip era? Dunno.

Remember, we’re trying to undo years of malaise and poor drafting here. Wasn’t going to happen overnight.

    • Jerry Goldstein

Is he not responsible for getting the team ready to play?

      • mksp

Not sure theres anything Chip can do about DeSean running away from a 1st down marker to avoid contact.

        • Jerry Goldstein

          True.

        • BlindChow

No, that must be one of those “college” plays!

    • Allen3000

Of course it wasn’t, but it’s never a good sign when you are getting shut out by one of the league’s worst defense and you are still equipped with an offense that features Shady McCoy, Djax, Jason Peters, Evan Mathis, Brent Celek, and supposed offensive genius calling the plays.
I’m a patient guy and I’m not very concerned with this team’s record this year. I do however, want to see this team start beating teams it *should* beat AND I want to see signs of progression each week. This team, well at least on offense, has seriously regressed the past two weeks. Not a good sign.

    • GEAGLE

f that!!!! Our Genius didn’t work to rebuild anything,,,he thought he could retool and win with Vick instead of investing this year in our future…basically, just another year on the hamster wheel..
      ….
Sam Hinkie is the only person in this town who has a clue….Chip should have been smarter then to repeat all this mistakes of the past! instead he gave first team reps to a QB who couldn’t get thru week 6,

  • OregonDucker

This is a bad porn movie!

  • shah8

And that’s THAT. Going to another game. Be depressed.

  • DarthBanner

3 points in the last 2 games. Losing faith in chip

  • ACViking

For the second straight week, this game feels like the 2003 NFC title game.

Down 14-3. Might as well have been 1000 – 3

  • GermanEagle

    A frigging punt?! LolChippah

  • Flyineagle45

someone make sure that pack that guy his “queen” so we can win some games

    LOLslant

  • Weapon Y

Looks like Big Balls Chip got neutered. Why the hell wouldn’t you go for it on 4th down?

    • bdbd20

Punting may actually have more impact on the team. Remember, Chip’s friends with Belichek. Might be playing mind games with the offense.

    • jshort

      they will have to now.

  • DamonL86

I sense no points incoming for us

  • jshort

    i sense and interception coming

  • DarthBanner

Kelly looks lost. His decisions today have made no sense.

  • ACViking

Re: Offense and the Time-Space Continuum

What’s concerning is the effectiveness of the offense, particularly the running game, has gone downhill over the past 4 weeks.

Yes, the Eagles beat the Giants 4 weeks ago. Then Tampa.

But the running game’s degenerated . . . and against allegedly bad D-lines.

    Just very concerning.

    • ACViking

      It’s not about the personnel.

      This scheme started red-hot.

Then the NFL got a good look at it

    • Iskar36

Teams have adjusted to our offense and so far, Chip hasn’t made an effective counter adjustment.

      • ACViking

        Can he?

Seems like he never had to in college.

        • Andy124

It was said during the interview process that Kelly already knew what adjustments NFL defenses would make and already had counters ready.

        • Iskar36

All the hype in the offseason was that Chip anticipates counters to his offense and adjusts accordingly. So far we haven’t seen that at all.

    • OregonDucker

They can single cover and stack the box. Receivers are not getting separation and passes are generally not there when they do.

  • Flyineagle45

can we trade for pete carol

  • ACViking

T-Law . . . you may get that shutout today

    • Jerry Goldstein

Don’t mess with him, me might be on top of the tallest building closest to him.

  • Flyineagle45

    actually let trade for bellichick

  • SteveH

probably going to be overlooked but defense played pretty well today. Gave up some yards but buckled up and kept them out of the endzone.

    • Andy124

Saw Nate Allen on a few nice hits.

      • SteveH

        yeah weird right?

    • Iskar36

Don’t fully agree with this. The Giants didn’t get into the endzone, but a the Giants shot themselves in the foot a few times. It wasn’t our defense alone that kept them out of the endzone.

  • Corry

Barkley does have a bit more zip on those passes.

  • GermanEagle

this loss should humble eagles nation and jimmy bama.

    • SteveH

      Jimmy Bama cannot be humbled.

    • Corry

No offense, but please leave the room again.

  • mksp

Seriously, some of you guys need to relax. Not making the playoffs is good news. For a minute I was worried we would sneak in because the NFC East is so dreadful. Now we’ll have a top-15 pick at a minimum, and no delusions about our QB situation. Hopefully Foles get better, and we can run with him rest of the season to “see what we have there.”

Does Tommy need to pull out the “1st year head coach records” statistic again?

    Also, LOLGiants.

    • Andy124

It’s been said over an over again that the team would not be judged on wins and losses, but on other factors like the “eye test”, week to week progress, seeing if Chip’s system will work.

The strong reactions are due largely to the low grades the Eagles are earning in those factors. Especially the progress category, as we’re seeing pretty severe regression that last couple weeks.

      • mksp

Just remember that at the moment we’re judging them with a 3rd string quarterback.

        • Corry

Yeah but they scored just as many with the first string QB in there for the first quarter and a half.

        • Andy124

Who’s actually looked less bad than the other two guys over the last 8 days.

          • mksp

Yeah, I still have no words for Foles’ performance against Dallas. Really screwed us.

      • Michael Winter Cho

The 5 year contract doesn’t mean much if he doesn’t get some wins or at least look good in losses. I live in AZ, all it a lesson from Cardinal land.

    • GEAGLE

      Win a fuckin home game

  • Andy124

    Thank Goode(ness) for that.

  • Iskar36

Not sure I’m a fan of that onsides kick at all.

    • Iskar36

Gave them great field position on a low percentage play with plenty of time left.

    • GEAGLE

      Hell NO

    • BlindChow

I think Kelly might have a concussion.

      • OregonDucker

        Agree.

      • Andy124

        They must be contagious.

  • GEAGLE

Hahahah. They are playing “living on a prayer” at the Linc hahahahahahaha pathetic

  • DamonL86

Not a well coached game today in key situations

  • Flyineagle45

    Chip spurrier?….. ha JK

  • Eric Carranza

    Miracle at the linc? Lol

  • ACViking

    Fletcher Cox . . . you can’t dance after a sack down 15-0 w/ 4:30 left in the game.

    • Jerry Goldstein

Why not? The D is the only side of the ball that showed up today.

      • ACViking

Because Cox looks like a jackass.

    • GEAGLE

I just smacked my puppy on the nose with a newspaper roll for you

  • BlindChow

I like to see they’re enforcing the delay penalties this time.

  • GermanEagle

    Tommy

I’m hoping to read a more critical read on Chip Kelly from you this week.

    • guitardreamer131

You my friend are officially the new Morton…

      • GermanEagle

Why? Because Chip Kelly’s playcalling has been subpar in the last two home games?

    • Iskar36

Seriously, the vitriol reporters got for putting out fair doubts about Chip Kelly was intense this offseason. Seems some of the doubts are well-founded.

No question that it is really early and things can change, but Chip Kelly has showed lots of flaws that need to be corrected.

    • RobNE

I’d be find with running 4 times from first any goal at the 2. Even if we diet get it

  • SteveH

    that delay huge.

    • Andy124

      If only.

    • DamonL86

      hardly

  • SteveH

    OPI on kendricks there

    • Corry

Kendricks doesn’t play for the right team to get that call.

  • RobNE

Only we get called for off PI.

  • GermanEagle

And the cowboys just won the NFC East.

  • DamonL86

    what a joke

  • GEAGLE

Teams know they need two QBs to win,,,when you are the Eagles, you need 8.

    That fat bitch has sung

  • BobSmith77

Fitting way for the game to end.

  • jshort

    Who’s the qb next week?

    • Iskar36

James Casey. He needs to earn that paycheck somehow right?

      • Andy124

        KINNE!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • BobSmith77

Imagine Barkley by default simply because he is healthy.

  • SteveH

Reasonable enough, they had to go deep there.

  • Flyineagle45

    LOL!!!!
i think im insane watch these games expecting different results every time

  • BobSmith77

First time the reporters/media really will be on Kelly and rightfully so. Several decisions that could be second-guessed during the game and the decision to start Vick who obviously wasn’t able to able move in the pocket effectively.

  • GEAGLE

Wish we would have gotten shut out,,,we don’t deserve 7 points today

  • ceteris_paribus1776

16, 20, 3, & 0. Those are the Eagles offensive point totals for over half of the games in the season. Concerned?

  • BobSmith77

Baffling thing to me today was all of the shotgun draw calls today. Kelly wasn’t fooling anybody with that.

    • mksp

Every single read option is run from the shotgun. Those aren’t draws.

      • BobSmith77

That’s what I meant. It was clear from the 1st quarter with how many guys were up front in the box including Rolle that the Giants didn’t think Vick was going to be an option in the running game.

  • Iskar36

    Positive spin for the day:

The Eagles did an absolute fantastic job of reducing the chances for the Giants to get Clowney. They should be commended for their forward thinking.

  • GEAGLE

We couldn’t beat a team that kicked 5 FGs at home

  • Flyineagle45

    #chippedwings :(

  • mksp

    SELL

  • xeynon

Time to accept that this team is not good enough to make the playoffs. This season should be all about trying to develop young players and build a winning culture. Veterans who are not part of the future (Vick, Avant, Allen, Celek, etc.) should not be getting the bulk of the playing time and interfering with the opportunity to evaluate and/or develop younger players like Foles, Barkley, Johnson, Wolff, and Ertz. Roseman should be working the phones in advance of the trade deadline on Tuesday looking to see if he can get anything in exchange for older players like Vick and Ryans. The coaching staff should still be trying to win but not at the expense of the future, because that only makes the day on which we actually will win farther off.

    • GEAGLE

Trent Cole should be the first name you listed….not good enough to play the most important role on a defense

      • xeynon

I absolutely agree with you in terms of where he stands as a player – he’d be better off playing out his career as a situational pass rusher in a 4-3 defense. However, his contract makes him prohibitively expensive to trade right now, and we could probably use the cap space in the off-season.

        • GEAGLE

Bench him and play Graham every snap the rest of the way

          • xeynon

I wouldn’t be opposed to that.

        • BobSmith77

Cole isn’t playing well but why bench him at this point though especially for a guy who can’t cover (Graham)? Both guys are leftover pieces that are out of place in his defensive scheme.

    • Dr. Claw

Foles and Barkley can both be gone as far as I’m concerned… their ceilings don’t go above “backup”. You could probably get more for Foles than Vick at this point… if only Andy Reid’s flair for “persuasion” remained.

      • xeynon

I suspect you’re probably right about Foles and Barkley. I’d put both of them more in the “evaluation” category than the “development” one. The probability is high the team will be looking to draft a QB high next April, but we might as well have as much information on the guys already on the roster as possible.

      • GEAGLE

Oh we are judging Barkley already now? Hahahahah
        ….
The knock on him was week arm,,,now that he is throwing with zip, 5 quarters was enough to tell you that Barkley is a bum?
        ….
Yo think Marriotta won’t have 5 bad quarters? Lol

  • BobSmith77

I am surprised the Eagles were able to keep the Giants out of the end zone though and keep Hicks/Cruz in relative check.

Cox continues to play pretty well up front, Allen had a few big hits on crucial 3rd down plays today, and Fletcher had another strong game regardless of how he was matched up against.

    • Dr. Claw

Yeah. There were a couple of times I was wary that they might but the Giants either shot themselves in the foot, or pressure was good enough for Eli to miss his target.

  • Flyineagle45

    good ol fashioned fire sale

  • SeanofDead

Looks like we are “sellers” now. Im interested to see if anything happens. I wouldn’t be surprised to see someone lose their job this week.

    • BobSmith77

Why would anyone lose their job at this point?

  • GEAGLE

Hahaha Vick said he re injured his hamstring…two genius’s

  • mksp

I’m gonna bookmark this thread for when the Eagles go 11-5 next season.

    • Always Hopeful

      Nice.

  • Flyineagle45

chip needs to start earing visors thats the problem

  • mhrinda

Tommy I have to say you were right. You didn’t want Reid to go for “Eagle reasons” (they would pick a bad coach) Now I have to say Chip Kelly is over his head and we are in trouble. I don’t have a good feeling about this
(not necessarily talking wins and losses but I just don’t like what I see for both now and the future)

  • BobSmith77

They simply need better decision-making out of Barkley next week if he is going to be the starter and adjustments in play-calling because teams aren’t going to respect Barkley taking the ball in the read option.

It really hurts the Eagles though right now that they don’t any receiver that teams respect 10+ yards down the field and no decent RB to give McCoy a breather.

  • Dr. Claw

The Eagles defense was in classic “bend but don’t break mode”. Continuous improvement?

    But the offense…

    1) Vick had no business starting. He was not even 70%.
    2) Barkley is not ready for prime time. His worst offense isn’t the turnovers, it’s the holding on to the ball. He’s actually the worst on the roster in regards to that.
    3) Chip Kelly had no business calling read options with a QB who can’t run it. Barkley had 1st down if he keeps the ball several times today.

All of these point to Chip as the reason the Eagles lose another game at home. He’s fortunate that this is his first season here. Hopefully the Eagles can draft a QB appropriate to Chip’s vision… who is durable.

  • GEAGLE

Get ready for Barkley to lead us into the black hole next week

    • Andy124

Anyone know if Foles has taken/passed any tests yet?

      • GEAGLE

Not sure about the first test but I know he hasn’t seen an Independant specialist yet which is the last step

  • BobSmith77

Coughlin and his staff simply outcoached Kelly and his staff today. First time all year where I felt the Eagles should have won a game that they didn’t and the coaching staff was a key reason why.

  • bbbulka

    coach controversy???

    • BobSmith77

No and that is ridiculous. They are half-way through his first season coming off a 3-13 season which had limited amounts of talent on both sides of the ball.

      • mhrinda

I don’t like Chips style. He coaches very timidly, He is restrained and very conservative in his play calling, He is very vanilla as a coach, Lack of talent sure but I just don’t like what he’s doing. Let us be outplayed but lets at least try to get more creative and play an interesting unorthodox style of football

        • GEAGLE

Ok we get it…you read a Merrill Hodge interview..lol

          • mhrinda

No don’t read that stuff, Its just my observation, I want us to be good but the feeling I get is we are going to be mediocre both now and the future, Chip looks scared out there and non innovated for someone that in college was the king of innovation and the unusual,

  • BobSmith77

Give this to Kelly – he is frank and straight-forward in his post-game conferences and tries to give answers to reporters’ questions.

  • jshort

    hahaha anyone watching Dallas

  • jshort

at least when we loose, Its ugly

  • BobSmith77

I wanted to see Foles/Barkley as the QBs before the season began and still want to see them the rest of the way despite some pretty shoddy play the last 2 weeks. Allows the Eagles to figure out if either has any kind of future here and what kind of QB they need for Kelly’s offense.

    • holeplug

      They need Marcus Mariota

  • ACViking

    GEagle:

Il giorno di apertura quarterback non ha mai fatto quest’anno. mai

    • GEAGLE

      MAI!!!!!!!! Ain’t that the truth!!

  • BobSmith77

O-line though continues to be the ‘turd in the punchbowl’ though considering it is at full strength with all 5 starters and still an average/below-average unit overall.

Failed a couple of times on short 3rd down running plays to generate any kind of push where a 1st down would have made a crucial difference including the drive right before the half. There isn’t a single play or side the Eagles can rush right now on 3rd and short and have much confidence in picking up a 1st down.

  • jshort

Could it be possible to win the east and have a top 10 pick?

    • ACViking

      NO.

All playoff teams moved down to the last 12 selections.

Eagles could win NFC East at 6-10 and have 20th pick

      • mksp

Correct. Just give it to Dallas. Sell, play young players, continue to build a culture, draft a franchise QB.

Just saw Stafford make two big time throws down 6 with a minute left against Dallas that not a QB on our roster could make. No chance without a guy like that.

  • GEAGLE

Thank you Vick for taking a week of reps from the kid so that you could play a quarter………EVERONE KNEW he wouldn’t get thru the game except him!!!

    • ACViking

Kelly exercised bad judgment on Vick this week . . . wanted the W too much.

Kelly’s adjustments (or non-adjustments) to the G-men also concerning.

  • GEAGLE

I didn’t see arm strength issue out of barkley

    • mksp

C’mon dude. Be objective. Even his completions lacked real drive. Look at that ball he threw to Avant that was under thrown and made Avant go to the ground. I like him, but his arm is not as strong as Foles even.

  • ACViking

I like Barkley’s chances in Oakland.

    He’ll be on WC time

  • BobSmith77

Kelly seemed to really hang on the ‘instability at QB due to health reasons’ in the post-game as a reason why the Eagles are struggling so much and used it in several answers.

If Barkley is named the starter next week (and I think he will be simply because he is the only healthy QB on the roster), I want to see how Kelly responds including making adjustments to better suit the plays to Barkley and his seeming inability/discomfort in running with the ball next week.

    • GermanEagle

      Matchups…. Lol

      • BobSmith77

Play the hand your dealt even if it is off-suit and a bunch of 4s, 5s, and 6s.

  • GermanEagle

    Megatron 329 yards vs Cowboys
Eagles Offense 278 yards vs Cowboys.

  • BobSmith77

Tommy – Any idea who many multiple TE sets the Eagles have used his year vs NFL average? I would love to see that stat and what the Eagles have done out of it. Ertz seemed like he was ‘MIA’ again this week and wasn’t on the field for even 50% of the snaps.

  • bbbulka

why are everybody so sensitive just like girls?? it’s very funny ))))))))

  • shah8

The Eagles do not have a chance without trading for anything better at WR.

  • BobSmith77

    Bryce Brown:

    38 carriers, 98 yards, 0 TDs; 4 catches, 48 yds

Getting less and less carries and snaps each week despite Polk being hurt. Dude sucks and increasingly has been seeking to avoid contact.

I really wouldn’t mind if the Eagles sign another RB and give him some carries because letting Brown touch the ball is a waste of a play right now.

    • ACViking

This may not be a good scheme for him.

Just about every play starts with him running laterally.

Put him in the I-formation and he’d be a more productive runner.

BUT all that aside . . . didn’t Roseman and Kelly see this problem in the off-season film review and during TC?

Moreover, he still — since age 18 — doesn’t have one-year’s worth of carries by a full-time RB.

      • BobSmith77

Maybe but he hasn’t shown any ability to make good reads in between the T and hit holes quickly which would be a huge issue out of an I-formation of a split-back formation.

        • ACViking

          TOTALLY AGREE!!!

The game is still too fast for his eyes to get the right cuts to his feet.

          • anon

haha please. What is he supposed to do he gets 4 snaps a game. You think he’s going to bust it for 30 yd plays? RBs need a rhythm. And to be fair look at shady’s numbers the last couple of weeks.

  • BobSmith77

Most frustrating Giants’ loss in a quite a while. Giants went really conservative on offense and defense and just avoided any killer screwups except the shoddy snap by DeOssie. Even had a ton of penalties today too (11-92 yards) and were only 8-19 on 3rd down conversion with stall outs every time in the red zone.

    • ACViking

This was 1972 Eagles’ football . . . if that good.

  • ACViking

Too bad the NFL didn’t have the Eagles play KC on the first MNF broadcast.

I think Kelly could’ve won that game. Might have delayed the inevitable run up the learning curve by NFL D-coordinators.
