Go Saints!

The Cowboys are driving, but hopefully the Saints will hold them to a FG. A loss for Dallas puts the Eagles into a tie for 1st in the NFC East.

(Re-posting my Romo observation in a more appropriate venue)
Tony Romo is rarely seen without some sort of headgear on his melon. Signs point toward hair plugs…
Careful. Comments like these can upset TO. He doesn’t like it when you talk about his QB.
Or Jeff Garcia’s heterosexuality.
Counting on a Rex Ryan defense. not a good plan…
…unless the parallel for said condition is a Payton/Brees offense
Draftnuts:
Let’s pretend we have pick #16 and aren’t moving significantly up or down. Who and/or what position do you target?
OLB or OT
We could be in a real good spot to catch a falling OT if there’s a QB run ahead of us… and we know Chip Kelly likes big people.
An OLB would certainly be nice…
Seems like we might be able to grab one of the top CBs in that spot, too…
Our OL is going regress eventually and we don’t have a lot of project guys that will develop into a starting role. Our pass rush is pretty anemic and this is one of the drafts to pick an OLB now. I can live with picking a CB later on since the success rate of recent first round CBs haven’t been high.
Lane can slide to LT, and we have Bamiro/Kelly who could both grow into starting caliber RTs. We could probably use some depth on the inside to groom but you can almost always find a guard to plug and play day 1 in the middle rounds.
It also seems we can always find a guy in FA.
Also Tobin who is on the team and Babre if we keep him in FA could play RT
If we move forward with Foles then we need a solid OL that will stay intact for years. 3/5 of our OL guys are on the wrong side of 30 and how confident would anyone be with Kelly and Bamiro starting on the OL? Not to mention that Bamiro will be gone if some team wants to sign off our practice squad.
Name a CB that has been great since Patrick Peterson has been drafted in the first round.
Peterson wasnt really that good at CB in his two first seasons.
Besides Peterson and Haden…I can’t really think of any other CB drafted in the first round that was named to a pro bowl or All Pro.
Oh I’d prefer a corner in the second, however due to the scheme I don’t think spending draft capital that early on OL is the best way to go. OLB, WR or a potential impact somewhere else.
Agree, I say OLB or WR in the first.
The 2014 OL free agents doesn’t look great. I’m going to bet that we resign Cooper and maybe Maclin too. So I’m not too crazy for a WR unless somone like Evans or Lee dropped to our second round pick. We’ll have to see how the season plays out first though.
OLB.
Maybe CB.
Jimmy was talking about Justin Gilbert out of OSU couple weeks back. Watched the limited tape he has on YouTube. Looks good as a cb and as a returner, which is something we may need after this year.
Ifo from Oregon and Kyle Fuller are my two favorite guys. Gilbert is definitely an option but has struggled to play consistent.
I really like Fuller in the 2nd.
I like Ifo in the first, im just worried he might be a walking holding call in the NFL (seems Eagles CBs are too so wouldnt change anything)
I watched Fuller vs Alabama and he followed Amari Cooper (who is a stud himself) and shut him down.
I knew he was inconsistent last year but thought he was playing much better this year. I like him in round 2, especially because of that return ability.
OLB or CB
OLB or WR.
Using your list from the last thread (where you posted the top 50 prospects), I’d say if they were to draft at #16 and don’t trade up or down (using the best player available), they would draft Marquis Lee or Ryan Shazier. If Louis Nix slipped slightly from your list (2 positions) I could see him in consideration also.
Ernie Sims trying to throw semi-punches at RBs. That’s fine with me.
Swing and a miss. Just like his tackles.
Sure would be nice to have a DeMarcus Ware…
He seems like a guy who – even when he’s not getting pressure – is in the QB’s head.
This just in: New Orleans has jazz music.
Referee Jerome Boger can see facemasks…
Still can’t believe they didn’t call the FM on the Shady run. So obvious.
It happened twice, both times was so easy to see
Agree with Anders – two big misses.
It seems unbelievable that not a single ref saw the violent head jerk one (the first). It’s not like he was in a crowd or anything…
Really bothers me after DJax getting fined for his off-target stiff-arm last week
When your head turns around that much you probably didn’t do it yourself unless you’re Linda Blair in The Exorcist
I about threw my pen across the room when that wasn’t called this afternoon
The better Nick Foles does, the more the Dallas loss bothers me. No reason we lost that game. Ugh. Better luck next time.
Not to get too far ahead of ourselves, but I am hoping Nick is still starting (because he keeps playing well, not because of injury drama AND because we’re winning/competitive with him) when we play Dallas. I think we would light the Cowboys up…okay, focus: win at home, win at home, win at home 🙂
21-10 Saints late in the half. I’m liking this.
Good thing Drew Brees isn’t as short-sighted. He wanted one more before the half
Wow, that was a nice play by #24 on the saints, he barely got a hand on that too
That looked like an Eagles play. Swing for a touchdown. 28-10
I want to see the girls’ come back, only to get blown out late. Bonus for late Romo turnover and/or Bryant meltdown.
Injured or not DeMarcus Ware is terrifying
We can never have too many Romo moments.
Beware of D-Ware. I thought he killed Brees yesterday on that swing pass to Sproles. Right after Collinsworth said he should be out of the game. D-Ware IS terrifying!
Foles last 5 games:
“In his last five games, his passer ratings have been 114.9, 133.3, 46.2, 158.3 and 149.3”
http://www.csnphilly.com/football-philadelphia-eagles/foles-still-not-starter-still-awfully-good
One of these things just doesn’t belong here….
“One of these things is doing its own thing, one of these just doesn’t belong…” Sesame Street taught us that. Hopefully Nick keeps proving that the 46.2 doesn’t belong 🙂
Excellent, Skins and Cowboys lose this week, paired with an Eagles win = cash money.
That, my friends, is one major-league a$$-whooping that couldn’t happen to a better team! Looked like FSU versus Wake Forest!
Alright I did a little digging since it’s Coopers and Maclins contract year.
Maclin with Foles for 7 games
33 catches out of 69 targets
501 yards
4 TDs
15.2 YPC
Cooper with Foles for 5.5 games
20 catches out of 29 targets
462 yards
6 TDs
23.1 YPC
I wonder how much money either one would want.
Good information.
But I’m not sure Mac in Andy’s offense is comparable to Cooper’s in Kelly’s. I’d have loved to see Mac in this offense as I think his skills would have fit perfectly. That being said, Cooper has done incredibly well lately and has far exceeded my expectations.
Maclin may not have the blocking prowess that Kelly seeks…
Well neither does Damaris but he’s still on the team.
For now.
If there’s one thing that we need to draft next year it’s a damn return specialist.
Hopefully he’s also a shut-down corner, hard-hitting safety, or enormous pass-rushing OLB.
could have had josh cribbs for a song — dropped DJ2.
Kelly’s won over everybody on the team so far (even DJax is blocking now) and Mac actually has decent size and strength. I think Kelly would make him a true believer. 😉
He might. But he’s also fragile, and has certainly been reticent to throw himself into action in the past.
Look, if we can retain him at a reasonable cost, them I’ll for it… it’s obviously great to have two guys that can you burn you deep on the outside. But – to Insomniac’s point – if Maclin commands a ransom for his services he’s obviously not a necessarily component to the offense…
Agreed. I was talking more about wishing we’d have gotten to see the pre-injury Maclin in this offense (as it would probably be close to Mizzou role).
Mac relied a lot on speed and quickness and the surgery could have taken some of that away. The Eagles have had bad luck with gambling on medical risks in the past. If he’s cheap to reasonable keep him. Otherwise, let him go and find a replacement in the draft.
Indeed. It would’ve been nice to see Mac in the offense for more than – what was it – five days? I suspect he won’t be cheap, however…
There’s also Arrelious Benn kicking around in the wings… it really depends on Kelly’s preference (if any) for receiver types.
Not sure about Kelly’s receiver type but Marquis Lee would sure look good in green.
Maybe Kelly’s Pac 12 homerism extends to receivers out of USC, too…
Would be he be willing to give us the “home-boy-damaged-goods-one-year-contract-discount-with-an-option-for-a-second-year” deal?
I like the sound reasoning and hopefulness of this thought. Pleasantly surprised by Cooper’s development and reservedly optimistic about his long term ability. Would have loved to seen a healthy Maclin in this offense. I think Kelly was making Mac a true believer…oh, well.
Hey…self-tripping Maclin can easily take out 3 guys if he trips in front of them.
Ha! And since there’s a lot of tape of him eating it, he’ll never be called for “intentional grounding.” Brilliant.
Valid point on Maclin’s blocking. I would be interested in what #’s he could put up though. As much as I love Avant’s blocking, leadership, effort etcetera, I sure would love to see us with a truly dangerous slot receiver on this squad. It’s clear to me anyway, that Damaris isn’t a dangerous anything. Ive been thinking it wouldn’t matter nearly as much if Maclin departs if we could cultivate a real threat in the slot & leave big Coop on the outside.
Jackson is starting almost every snap.
I like Cooper’s height, durability, and toughness over Maclin. We have our speedster in Djax. Gotta have a WR3 we can rely on, and we need Djax’s understudy. What if he goes down, who takes his place?
I’m definitely confused with what we have in Cooper. He was SOOO bad at the beginning of the season and now he is playing incredibly well. I still think the #2 WR spot has to be upgraded, and I’m not sure whether or not Maclin is the answer.
It’s funny you say that he was bad to start the year. All the excuses for Vick (et al) and other defensive players was that it’s taking a long time to learn the new offense and defense(I think it’s hog wash) but that’s what a lot of folks say. IF that’s true, wouldn’t that be true for Cooper? He had to learn a new system as well. I’m not saying Cooper is the next great WR — but like the rest of the teammates — maybe it just took some time to learn “things”.
Wondering what the YAC differential is between the two.
Yay, Dallas lost.
I’m impressed with how Foles handles his press conferences. How does he rate compared to other QBs?
He really seems to be digging being a part of the Philadelphia Eagles, loves the team, and the city. I never got that feeling from Kolb, or some of the other QBs. Maybe they said the same things, I don’t remember well enough, but Nick sure seems pretty grounded.
Iggles win + cowgurls beatdown = good sunday
Yup.
Watch out for the Giants, who won three in a row now and trailing the cowboys and eagles by only 1 1/2 games.
Re Nick Foles: people seem to think that I hate him, but that is absolutely not true. In fact I am happy for this kid. I still think that Chip would prefer an athletic QB in his offense and if there is one on the board in next year’s draft I will be surprised if the Eagles don’t pick him. But again, I am rooting for Foles like for everyone else on this team. Go Eagles!
I’m not too concerned about the Giants, it seems like too little too late. They have GB next week (which isn’t as tough as usual, but they still look decent) and they play the Chargers, Seahawks and Lions in back-to-back weeks. The remaining three games are against the Cowboys and Redskins who aren’t exactly setting the world on fire, but divisional games are never easy.
Based on the way the tie-breakers are looking, they’ll need to win 3 more games than the Cowboys AND at least 2 more games than the Eagles from here on. I can’t see any realistic scenario where that happens.
The only thing these Giants wins are doing is hurting their chances of landing an impact player in the first round.
Was this the worst/luckiest performance by a QB with a rating of 149.3?
I think the numbers make it look a lot better than it actually appeared while watching it. On the other hand, I probably should also take into account that there was some wind that may have affected some of the throws, especially for a guy without an exceptionally strong arm.
There was a little bit of luck in that none of the few interceptable balls Foles threw were actually intercepted. But on the whole, it was a gutsy, impressive win in hostile territory, and it was a team win with a lot of guys making needed important contributions.
I agree. Brees/Brady(not that I’m comparing them to Fole) never has any luck? The great ones and the terrible ones always have some luck. So Foles has some luck and we have to point it out? Foles did exactly what you’d want a QB to do. 2 things you want a QB to do going into a game. 1) Manage it and 2) don’t turn the ball over. Did Foles turn it over? Nope. Did he manage the game? I think that last drive was pretty impressive. OH — he was only 12 of 18? I’ll take that and say — one out of every 4th throw was a TD :). I think Foles continues to be impressive. This wasn’t the Vikings defense he was facing AND he did it at their field. Kudos on an Eagles win.
You certainly don’t understand what luck means if you mention that Foles didn’t throw any picks yesterday.
Don’t get me wrong, I am happy for Foles. He’s a great kid and I enjoy every TD pass and win as much as anyone else. I still don’t think he’s in Chip’s long term plans should an athletic QB be on the board. Besides Foles’ mechanics (like throwing from his back foot under pressure) should be alarming for every Eagles fan who’s borderline intelligent.
don’t be a douche(again). I’m not saying Foles didn’t get lucky. But you have to be dolt to think Foles is the only QB to ever get lucky. I never said he’s the QB of the future. I’m enjoying what Foles is doing right now. He’s winning… how can anybody ask for more? Speaking of being intelligent….athletic QB’s do not win SB’s. Good luck finding one.
I don’t understand what’s wrong with calling Foles 149.3 rating to be helped by luck… I guess it’s douche thing (again)…?
(I had reply in wrong place so I moved it to here)
I’m not saying it wasn’t lucky. It was. You and others make it sound like Foles is the only QB to ever have luck and that’s the only reason why Foles was successful yesterday. Let’s view Foles under what he can control(like you said, throwing off the wrong foot). Foles can’t control 2 defenders going up and not making a play of defense — yet, you want to count it against him. I’m not sure any qb on any team doesn’t have a bit of luck each single game.

It is a crazy stat line. 12 completions? When was the last time a Reid coached team only had 12 completions, ever?
When teams crowd the line of scrimmage to take away the run and dare you to beat them deep you get less completions but more big plays.
It will be interesting to see how defenses will change it up, prevent the deep and force everything to be short gains. How will Foles adjust?
It does seem like last season his weakness was the deep ball, so it makes sense that teams play them that way.
Brees’s 55-yard bomb to the rookie late in the game looked a lot like Foles’s first TD to Cooper: Threw somewhat short and inside to a double-covered receiver. Similar result, too.
That will be called brilliant throw by Brees
found these nuggets in Roob’s column.
Foles fashioned a passer rating of 149.3, highest ever by an visiting quarterback against the Packers – either at Lambeau Field or at County Stadium in Milwaukee, where the Packers used to play three times a year.
Foles did not throw an incomplete pass in the second half — 6 for 6 for 113 yards and two touchdowns.
http://www.csnphilly.com/football-philadelphia-eagles/foles-still-not-starter-still-awfully-good
that second one is pretty great to me. its big when you can come out for the second half and pick up your game.
How good was it to hear Chris Collinsworth say “Ernie Sims overran the play and lost contain”. I am glad the shark is in Dallas now
