Suck it, Dallas.

_

  • jmh

    Wow! Love this TEAM!!!!

  • Steag209

Just to hammer it home. DALLAS SUCKS

  • HipDaDip

Brandon Boykin, Connor Barwin, Cary Williams, Mychal Kendricks, other people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • mrkaplan

I’m so sick. With wins like this, I don’t need losses.

  • T_S_O_P

4.28 am, and how do I now sleep? Adrenalin

    • Crus57

Just thinking that myself. Congrats fellow british eagle!

  • GENETiC-FREAK

    hahaha suck deez Cowgirls lol

  • Spooonius

I am in urgent need of a defribulator. Donnie Football and Boyking to the rescue. Phew!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • jshort

      Barwin!!!!

  • Joe

I hate the Cowboys! My heart can take no more!

  • jmh

Its pretty obvious that the delay of game call on the Pokes was bogus, which means the zebras actually threw zero (nada, zippo, zed) flags at America’s Team. Bias anyone?

    • Teehee

Seems like Riley Cooper was getting held pretty bad on that last 3rd down too. A win is a win though, go Eagles!

      • http://www.aceandson.com/blog Richard O’Connor

Eagles D-Line was getting mugged all night. Maybe it was called both ways there. Either way, fuck Jerry Jones and the Cowboys.

      • Eagles_Fan_in_San_Fran

Yea, I saw that too. Pretty damn flagrant

        • Crus57

By which you mean it smelled of BS.

          • Eagles_Fan_in_San_Fran

You caught me before I could edit it!

      • SteveH

Yeah flagrant hold there, but the zebras hadnt thrown shit all game, why start there?

    • JJ_Cake

Yeah, pretty obvious. But I’m glad Dallas got that Td so they can’t whine about the stupid clock mistake. We clearly won this game period.

  • Baloophi

    Donnie Jones.

    • Teehee

I want his number retired, stat!

      • Eagles_Fan_in_San_Fran

        HOF material!

  • McNabbulousness

team win baby, go eagles, fuck dallas

  • JJ_Cake

Great win, but a little too close for comfort. I was worried Dallas would march up the field, kick 3, and win. For whatever reason, that “sucky” Dallas d seems to play us pretty hard. Great team win, looking forward to you picking this one apart Tommy.

  • DarthBanner

Congrats everybody. Nothing sweeter than stepping on Dallas to do it. Time for a little payback on the saints.

  • SteveH

When Boykin intercepted that pass, I let out a sound that was equal parts nervous laughter, incredulous laughter, shouting and screaming. I couldn’t duplicate it if I had a thousand years.

    • scratcherk

      lol

    • P_P_K

      A classic Eagles moment.

  • ICDogg

    Never a doubt!

  • Eagles_Fan_in_San_Fran

Your best column in the last three years, Tommy!

    • TommyLawlor

      Concise.

      • Andy124

        Si.

  • planetx1971

That’s RIGHT Tommy! SUCK IT DALLAS! And SWALLOW the feathers!!!! :))-

  • theycallmerob

Arguably your best post ever, Tommy

    • Andy124

debated downvoting for the word “arguably”.

      • theycallmerob

        channeling my best aikman

  • scratcherk

Can we get a gif of Jerrah saying Fuck after the Boykin INT?

    • theycallmerob

..and was that his son ripping his shirt off?? loved it

      • BlindChow

        Probably his lucky shirt.

      • mtn_green

What was the short coming off for? Time to switch to be an eagles fan??

        • BlindChow

“Dallas Cowboys NFC East Champions 2013″

    • TheRogerPodacter
      • laeagle

Prepping for some odd post-loss ritual no doubt.

        • CampDracula

He’s got the old man’s gate there. Seems the Eagles just took a decade off Jerry’s life.

          • BlindChow

            Nooooo!

  • RobNE

I guess it’s good we have a night game. Will be colder and the crowd will be more beverage’d up

    • theycallmerob

you know Chip and keeping with schedule; that’s why he was so excited for all those 1pm games in a row.
I bet after 2 straight Sun night games, he doesn’t mind one bit!

      • Andy124

I survived! Wasn’t sure my heart would get me through this one.

  • RobNE

And how well the Cowboys played tonight likely means no coaching change. Maybe Chip had this all planned?

    • BlindChow

I think the Romo injury guaranteed no coaching change.

    • Andy124

      beautiful post.

  • aerochrome2

Anyone know if eagles sell single game tickets for playoffs?

  • Mike Calabrese

Got it DONE!!! Love the way these guys play together and handled there business! Demeco said not leaving here without a W!! That’s f**** in right!!!

  • Eagles_Fan_in_San_Fran

    Per ESPN:
Cowboys: 2-12 in Week 17 since 2000 (worst in NFL)

    • P_P_K

Do you know who those 2 wins were against?

      • RobNE

one was us recently, then again the next week in the playoffs. They beat us two games in a row.

        • P_P_K

          Both were against us.

          • theycallmerob

            ^ this

          • RobNE

oh I didn’t notice your use of the socratic method.

          • P_P_K

This victory made me smarter, taller, and more virile.

          • laeagle

My whole body is now producing ejaculate.

  • SeanofDead

It takes Jupiter less time to revolve around the sun than it takes Dallas to win a playoff game

Jupiter revolves around the sun in 4333 days

Dallas one playoff win in the last 6211 days

    • Eagles_Fan_in_San_Fran

That’s probably BS, but I love it!

  • Eagles_Fan_in_San_Fran

ESPN cut out of Chip’s Presser to show Garrett’s instead.
    Still no respect.

    • Stephen Stempo

Well to be fair Chip has many years of press conferences left. Garret might be retiring to Canada.

      • Maggie

Nooooooooooo. We don’t want him either! We prefer winners. And we have enough real honest-to-goodness cowboys already. On the big ranches where they still ride horses and everything. We don’t mind adding to our eagle population of course.

    • Maggie

Not sure I get it. TV is all about ratings and Philly is a major market. Strange. But that’s ESPN for you.

  • BlindChow

I’m just glad the “Orton leads the Cowboys to the playoffs” storyline was eliminated. I think the reason the announcers seemed to favor Dallas was they really wanted that narrative to come to fruition. I don’t expect them to be so unbalanced next week.

    • Crus57

I said in the first half that that phantom holding penalty we got was for defying the narrative.

    • laeagle

We’ll be on the other side of that kind of narrative this week. “Last to first beats the Saints”. That’s just how the game is played. The game of dumbass journalism.

    • dave H

Collingsworth sounded so bummed he was going to cry .. next Cowboy
to get fired is the drater at the 40 second clock controls!!

  • bdbd20

Best column you’ve written all year, Tommy!

    • RobNE

      until next Sat night

  • jshort

    The dream goes on.

  • RobNE

I’d like to know why our OL was so horrible tonight. Or rather, why they got so much pressure without us adapting, making them pay for it, etc.

    • TheRogerPodacter

yea, i really hope Tommy and the other writers really focus on this during the week.

    • Stephen Stempo

It looked to me like they were blitzing a lot and clever blitzes that seemed to be knocking down the screen routes. Not sure why we didn’t adjust though we did hit some deep passes. We also started running it more in the 4th quarter and they couldn’t stop it for the most part. Wonder if we’ll see more teams doing that in the playoffs. It felt like they were blitzing every play.

  • theycallmerob

Foles finishes year 27:2, 64% completion, and best of all….keeps QBR title with a sterling 119.2 !!!!

    [site: http://brucey.net/nflab/statistics/qb_rating.html

    Suck it Manning(s)!!!

    • TheRogerPodacter

so his rating actually went UP this game, i think he came in at 118.

    • Andy124

stepping on my toes and sh!t. :)

      • theycallmerob

        sorry it’s the excitement!

    • Iskar36

Passer rating title, not QBR. He is 4th with QBR.

27 TDs and 2 INTS is the best TD:INT ratio all time.

I haven’t seen the updated stats, but I can’t imagine that he didn’t end up with the highest yards per attempt in the league. He had over 9 yards per attempt. Not sure if that is a record, but it is a crazy impressive stat.

      • TheRogerPodacter

iv’e been wondering this for a while.
what is QBR vs QB Rating? does the R not stand for Rating? lol

        • ICDogg

QBR is a recent stat created by ESPN

          • Stephen Stempo

and to be clear a touch subjective in it’s application.

          • ICDogg

It includes running and some other stuff that isn’t in passer rating

          • Stephen Stempo

There’s a part of it that accounts for like game winning drives and 4 minutes or less passes and stuff like that. Makes it kind of subjective in that regard.

          • Iskar36

Yea, and to my knowledge the way it is computed is not fully known outside of ESPN. To me, that destroys the credibility of the stat.

          • Andy124

it’s terribad. i’ve looked up some performances where espn’s QBR ranks a qb who played like bantha poodoo ahead of a qb who played mediocre. it’s garbage and does not deserve to be acknowledged. the theory is ok, the execution is broken to say the lease.

        • BlindChow

A lot of people still use QBR to mean passer rating, which makes it pretty confusing. I assume they mean passer rating unless it’s actually a ESPN article.

        • ICDogg

The passer rating (not QB rating) is an official NFL stat

        • Iskar36

QBR is a rating system ESPN made in 2011. It is a rating system out of 100 that ESPN claims rates the QB’s contribution to the team scoring points. My understanding is that there is no publicly available formula for it, so a lot of people are skeptical about how bias or not it may be.

Passer Rating is a statistic that is based specifically on a QB’s passing numbers. There is a very specific formula for it. So things like fumbling or sacks would not contribute to passer rating.

      • TheRogerPodacter

in this game, 263 yards on 26 attempts per nfl.com. the yards per attempt is only going to up (a little)

      • theycallmerob

thank you my apologies, i shorten it as qb rating. Realize that is confusing, considering espn’s QBR

        • Iskar36

Not an issue at all. I’m not a fan of “QBR” at all, and honestly, to me the only thing it does is confuse stats.

      • theycallmerob

Yes, he took 1st in YPA at 9.1

    • theycallmerob

      follow up:

also good for 3rd best of all time.
and, at age 24, best for such a young QB by a significant margin; next closest was 23 yr old Marino in ’84, with a 108.9.
      http://www.pro-football-reference.com/leaders/pass_rating_single_season.htm

He’ll finish at 9.1 YPA, T-19th best all time with Montana’s best season (’89)

  • TomATL

So gratifying to do it against Dallas.

  • the midatlantic

The crazy thing is, to me, the Chip era began here. Cheers to the Iggles Blitz crowd, but especially to Tommy Lawlor, you PBR-loving SOB!

    • the midatlantic

      Funyuns for life.

  • BlindChow

From here on out it’s all icing to me. Even if next week is another Vikings or Broncos game, it’ll still feel like a successful season.

    • Andy124

I felt like we had to win this game, because it was against Dallas. Next week, it’s a true house money situation for me. I won’t be online for that game, but I’ll be pretty chill for it.

    • Gary

I feel that way now, but we’ll see about that come game time.

  • TheRogerPodacter

found this in the BGN comments:

this is the last play where foles went down.

so 1) BLATANT holding of cooper downfield.

    2) MULTIPLE hits on Foles after he slid.

    not one flag.

    http://s28.postimg.org/fr7l75o31/Cooper_hold.png

    • BlindChow

I hope they quietly send in a tape to the league, especially after the Foles hits. You know they call that if it happens to Brees.

      • ICDogg

Yeah, quietly is the key word there

      • TheRogerPodacter

as i said after the mess from the Cards game – i’m sure that every team sends a tape to the league after every game. its just a matter of how much there is to complain about in each one.
i think we have a few to complain about.

  • ModCon1

Boykin, Kendricks, Barwin, Shady, Foles, Jackson, what a game!

    • http://www.aceandson.com/blog Richard O’Connor

      PS: Sconces

  • ModCon1

It’s so satisfying to have get such a WORKMAN-LIKE win. The Birds just grinded tonight and made big plays when they needed to be made. How different is that from the past two years.

    • P_P_K

All those running plays on the last touchdown drive were a thing of beauty.

      • A_T_G

In the post game, Chip said, as politely as possible, that they could sense the Dallas players getting tired and he told his players that they were going to take it to them. That must be such a good feeling to be in that position late in the game.

I also wondered if this is why Chip defers the ball to the second half, to force their defense to play more in the second half.

  • SeanofDead

I’m so getting ahead of myself but….
I ain’t scared of the Panthers on jan 12th either.

  • P_P_K

I just got back home so I don’t know if I missed the discussion, but why was Nick called for intentional grounding when Shady was so close to him.

    • Corry

The refs were goddamn retarded. (And honestly, that’s the only answer I can come up with).

    • Crus57

because he doesn’t play for Dallas? because Shady was busy being tackled?

    • Stephen Stempo

well he kind of did spike it like straight down. while Shady was facing away from him engaging a blocker. I mean yeah he was in the area…

      • TheRogerPodacter

is that the one where Ware more or less bear-hugged Shady in the backfield?

        • Stephen Stempo

I don’t think so he was around the line of scrimmage. I mean I didn’t hate the flag but I don’t think they HAD to throw it. The refs weren’t great but for the most part they let them play no ticky tack pass interference calls.

          • anon

way in the pocket, i think he so aggressively spiked it in dallas didn’t help.

    • TheRogerPodacter

dallas also had a play where Orton was in the pocket, threw the ball to literally nowhere, past the LOS. no flag for IG.

      • ICDogg

        yep

      • P_P_K

I remember that play and the no call.

      • A_T_G

Yep camera followed the ball to the far sideline and there wasn’t a Dallas player in the shot.

  • jshort

anyone notice Lane Johnson doing anything wrong when he got flagged for the hold? I didn’t

    • TheRogerPodacter

thats the one that i missed. i didn’t catch a replay either.

    • A_T_G

Like the officials, I was too distracted trying to catch Foles intentionally grounding the ball each and every play to take notice of anything else.

      • jshort

Hey ATG got a 6lb tin of Dieffenbacks chips fried in lard, being sent to me for next week….really!!!

        • A_T_G

          Nice! Enjoy.

        • A_T_G

And the six pound tin should get you all the way to the SB. Good thinking to plan for success.

  • BlindChow

Another silver lining to this win: we won’t hear about the first Dallas game again.

    • P_P_K

Abd they’ll have to live with this loss all off-season.

    • Andy124

      i wish.

  • BC1968

    AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • TheRogerPodacter

from jimmyk’s twitter, i found this guy who is posting all sorts of awesome stats.

    https://twitter.com/BStrohEagles

    • TheRogerPodacter

The Eagles turned the ball over just 19 times this season, which is a team record, supplanting the previous low of 22 set in 2003 and 2004.— Brett Strohsacker (@BStrohEagles) December 30, 2013

    • TheRogerPodacter

Foles also set the NFL record for TD/INT ratio (13.5/1), and had the third-best INT% (0.63%).— Brett Strohsacker (@BStrohEagles) December 30, 2013

    • TheRogerPodacter

Nick Foles (27 TDs, 2 INTs) is the only player in NFL history to throw more than 20 touchdowns and two or fewer interceptions in a season.— Brett Strohsacker (@BStrohEagles) December 30, 2013

    • TheRogerPodacter

wow. everyone should check this out. TONS of awesome stats here for Foles, McCoy, Celek, etc. great, great stuff. this has truly been an incredible year.

    • mtn_green

      Awesome

  • BC1968

WOO HOO!!!!!!!! Was at Chickie and Pete’s in Drexel Hill, f*ing exploded like being at the linc, hell no, better yet, the Vet, when that int was made at the end! Suck it indeed dallas! Jerry Jones walking out at the end, Priceless! Oh and the Eagles babes at Chickie’s. :) :) :) :) I bumped into many of them….by accident of course

  • Christopher Happel

The best game of the season was saved for last. Thank you, Eagles!
    Great, amazing win!!

  • Ark87

this one feels good. Cowboys gave us everything they had, both of their lines played out of their minds. Orton was playing better than I expected. Officiating felt a bit one way. At Dallas. Hell of a win, giving this one to the Defense tonight.

  • Michael Jorden

Never realized it was so difficult to find the original Napoleon Dynamite dance on youtube – trying to post it to Dallas fan friend of mine’s FB page. Can’t believe our Birds made the playoffs in the first year! Next up: Saints!

  • SteveH

Just scored tickets to the Saints game. Fuck yeah.

    • aerochrome2

Anyone remember if any go on sale via ticketmaster?

      • SteveH

        Can’t help you there.

  • ICDogg

Eagles running backs combined for 464 touches this year and just one lost fumble.— Brett Strohsacker (@BStrohEagles) December 30, 2013

    • P_P_K

      That’s incredible.

      • BlindChow

        And it wasn’t Bryce Brown.

        • A_T_G

          THAT’s incredible.

    • mtn_green

Wow just wow. That’s coaching and impressive for a first year coach.

    • anon

Play the way you practice! Remember all those ball security drills from the beginning of the season?

  • TheRogerPodacter

    regarding ‘play clock-gate’ or whatever.
the play clock is controlled by the home team, right?
kind of funny that it happened to Dallas IN DALLAS.

can you imagine the outrage if this happened to us in this game?
or worse… if it happened to Dallas in Philly!?!

    • Gary

Was thinking the same thing. It’s Dallas’ clock operator that screwed up.

  • Dragon_Eagle

    Did Shanny get fired yet?

    • FairOaks

Not official until tomorrow, but basically yes per reports.

  • Neill Stark

This team is the answer to all of the things I was starting to hate about the Andy Reid’s teams at the end! I love watching this team play, and having Chip as a coach makes me happy!

    • P_P_K

      Truth.

  • John Galt

Dilfer just did a great 2 mins on nick foles on sports center a few mins ago. Tommy you should link it for sure

    • BlindChow

I think Dilfer was the one guy who really loved him from before he was drafted.

      • SteveH

Dilfer’s like he’s a scrappy career backup type with questionable arm strength, just like me! I LOVE THIS GUY!!!

  • Matt

Oh man I’m still riding high! We are from Philadelphia and we FIGHT.

    E-A-G-L-E-S-EAGLES!!!

  • A_T_G

What the hell was with Collinsworth harping on Nick having a tendency to takes his eyes down from downfield when he is pressured? Did he watch anything other than the first Dallas game to prepare for tonight?

    • BobSmith77

Foles did miss some of the check down options who were wide open especially in the 2nd half.

      • SteveH

Has nothing to do with whether he took his eyes down.

        • BobSmith77

I think that is what Collingsworth was trying to talk about but it was confusing.

      • Iskar36

I noticed that too, but that’s different from taking his eyes down from downfield.

        • jshort

He needed something to correct for next week.

      • BlindChow

Yeah, in his worst games he never checks down. That’s the good thing about it happening now: he tends to improve on these things the following week.

    • SteveH

Collinsworth and especially Michaels were horrific tonight. Nothing more needs to be said really.

    • P_P_K

The guys I watched with were saying the same thing. Collinsworthless.

    • Tumtum

I sent a text to my buddy after about the 50th time he said that. It simply read “F Collinsworth”

    • mtn_green

With two interceptions all year gotta find something to critique.

    • Maggie

Heard that too. How do you “take your eyes down”. Down from where? Where do you put them? How do you pick them up again? Is it anything like having your eyes put out by running with scissors? :~)

  • fran35

Best game I have seen Kendrick play. The dude is a playmaker

    • SteveH

Kendricks and Boykin man, those guys are fucking playmakers. Boykin is the hero for the pick at the end but Kendricks was unbelievable tonight. He’s looking more and more like a stud.

      • P_P_K

Boykin is a baller and Special K is our best linebacker since Trotter.

        • SteveH

The Boy King and Special K, no defense is truly elite without swaggy nicknames.

        • Tumtum

Don’t sleep on Meco either. I don’t think that guy has missed a tackle in his life. Kendricks is on his way to being a star though. He was sooo pivitol.

    • Iskar36

Kendricks was all over the place tonight. Very impressive game.

  • BobSmith77

After watching this team turn the ball over time and time again the past 2 years (especially when Vick was at QB), it has been really pleasant to see this team on the positive side of the ledger.

Made all the difference in the world tonight.

    • SteveH

And when we did have the 1 turnover the D bailed us out and kept it to a field goal. So critical.

    • A_T_G

Chip mentioned that if you compare the differential in the 10 wins (woohoo) to the differential in the six losses, it is very telling.

  • BobSmith77

‘Boys outplayed the Eagles tonight on both sides of the ball. Turnovers just absolutely killed the ‘Boys.

Even on Boykin’s INT to seal the game, a good throw there on that slant is huge and goes potentially a long way. At least to the Boys 45 and potentially a lot more because there was some open space.

This really was ‘Escape from Dallas’

    • SteveH

Turnovers are part of the whole “outplaying” equation you know, its not like those things happen independent of everything else. If you want to tell me that we lost in the trenches on both sides of the ball I will absolutely agree with you there.

      • BobSmith77

Not really on turnovers especially the ability to force and recover fumbles consistently.

    • A_T_G

That just isn’t true. The two teams played incredibly evenly. Both got some good runs and got stuffed, both got some big passes and third down pickups, both stalled a few times. Turnovers helped us, officiating hurt us, and red zone production won us the game.

Up front on both sides of the ball I thought the Eagles were outplayed and badly in the passing game.

Boykin made a great INT on that last play but he was beat on that throw too and all Orton had to do was not put the ball behind the WR for a big gain.

      • TheRogerPodacter

the red zone production is what won us the game.
they got FGs. we got TDs. there is your difference in points.

  • Andy124

pretty generous, but I may be yeasting the saints.

    • FairOaks

Yeah we are 2.5 point favorites.

        • BobSmith77

I’d take the Saints especially if that get to 3 or 3.5

    Under-appreciated tonight:

Fletcher: He was matched up on Austin almost all night long and Austin basically had 1 catch all night long that mattered. Been the most consistent player in this shaky secondary all year with the exception of the Vikings game.

Barwin: His play on 4th down tonight was huge as was his tackle on Murray to prevent a 1st down in the 4th quarter. Not the most physically-gifted LB but an intelligent player who is fundamentally sound & almost always in the right position. Really come to appreciate watching him.

Brown: He has been a punching bag of my all year long but he ran hard tonight and with conviction. Even though he had 2 carries tonight they were both important ones including his TD run in the 4th qtr. Wish he wouldn’t try to bounc every run outside of the tackles but he did lower his shoulder tonight & power ahead. Nice to see.

Agreed, and I would like to submit Nate Allen for the list. He played a solid game, underscored by how often Chung showed up in replays.

      • BobSmith77

Chung was credited with 10 tackles (5 solo) tonight but will get all kinds of grief for missing Bryant on that tackle where Bryant waltzed into the end zone.

Was Chung really that bad in coverage tonight? I couldn’t tell since I was watching more of the line play.

I have no idea who the Eagles stop all the weapons the Saints have though on offense especially over the middle of the field especially Graham and Sproles.

Hopefully get 1-2 errant throws by Brees who is slowed by what is forecast to be very cold temperatures and hold the Saints to a few red zone FGs like tonight.

Eagles can take a page from Jets. Pass rush and stop the run. Boykin / Kendricks on Graham will be interesting.

          • D3FB

I think we could see Barwin shadow him a bit and use his length to force the window on seam routes (over Barwins arms under the safety) to be even smaller for Brees.

  • BobSmith77

Does anyone have that close-up shot of Orton on the sideline at the very end of the game when he looked like he found out that there really is no Santa Claus?

    • mtn_green

      Santa was qb2 for cowboys.

  • BlindChow

The tackling was great tonight, except for that one Chung play. I hope Wolff is back for the Saints.

  • mtn_green

Big balls Kelly thinking, “if we can’t get half a yard we don’t deserve to win” the players must love that attitude and trust from the HC.
