Busy 3rd Round – Pick and a Trade
Posted: May 9th, 2014 | Author: Tommy Lawlor | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 235 Comments »The Eagles traded out of pick 83. They gave that to the Texans and got a 4th rounder and 5th rounder in return. Both picks are the first in those rounds. That’s important, but I’ll cover that later.
At pick 86 the Eagles added another WR, Josh Huff from Oregon.
I like Huff quite a bit. He is 5-11, 205. He can play in the slot. Huff is quick and fast. He will work the middle of the field. Huff has good RAC skills. He also adds value as a KOR. Huff exploded as a Senior, going 62-1140-12. He took the step from being a role player to being a star player. He projects to being a role player in the NFL.
Obviously Huff is a good fit for the offense since he played in the scheme at Oregon and thrived. He should be able to fit in quickly and immediately push for playing time.
I didn’t have Huff rated this early, but I do like him a lot as a player. I would have had him slotted more in the 4th round area. That’s not significantly different that pick 86, though, so this isn’t some crazy move. And I think the fact that Chip knows him so well had to help the Eagles grade on Huff. They know he’ll block. They know he’ll play STs. And so on. Not as much projection with a guy like him.

First
damn
dork
i like it. i like huff way more then donte moncrief.
Moncrief now has Reggie Wayne to learn from.
uhhh.. ok
Can you imagine the defense this team could be building if they just Didnt cut the fastest player in the NFL???
unfortunately its not that simple
Yes it is
im going to trade this post for two posts to be named later
Better be a heck of a kick returner since there are about 2 of them per week now in the NFL.
Well Matt Millen Raves about Moncreif, soooo, feeling better about not picking him
Hate to be on the hater site on this one, maybe I’m more ok with that move tomorrow, but that’s just a shitty pick at this position in the draft. That’s how Raiders or Cowboys fans have to feel all the time.
And the Colts snatch Moncrief. Thanks for that.
Can’t say I like the value they’ve been getting. Huff could easily have been there at the top of the 4th with the pick from the Texans. Tons of value flying around in the 3rd and we get Josh Huff. Seems like a luxury pick to me.
No shot in hell that huff wouldnt have been on the board with the first pick in round 4,,.’we shit the bed
Yeah I don’t dislike any of the players they’ve been getting, I just don’t like the picks. This is a very talented draft, so other teams getting a lot better all around the NFL. Eagles not doing anything to separate themselves…. meanwhile Carolina just picked the guy I wanted (Trai Turner).
Colts got moncreif #1 upside…we got a #5 WR and ST player…i dont even mind huff, but round 3 is a joke.
.,.
I get called a rosey optimist, but no one better try and sugar coat this bullshit…he is like fhe 25th ranked WR prospect….this is terrible…rather have taylor hart if we needed to draft a duck….the trade was good..
…
Someone please try and friggin tell me huff wouldnt have been on the board at the beginning of round 4? Fock outta here…
Not to mention we don’t really need another WR, there are other positions we could reach for better value.
Id rather have Brandon Coleman as just a redzone weapon…we will be fortunate if Huff us half the Wr avant was…you dont take Huff in the top 100… This is crazy.. Im going to sleep. This is a joke. Toke til I choke and pass out. Im ghost… Goodnight
Take it easy bud. see you Tomorrow will be better for us, I feel it.
Hope so….i thought we were past the horrible draft picks…first pick in the kelly era i said anything negative about….night
Where’s Tom Gamble at?
Better have been arrested with two hookers, “Lucy…u got, some espalannin to do” …i cant believe huff is the 3rd player we added..thats sooo bad
its a good pick. more excited about huff then the smith pick
I was pulling for Jones and Desir at 83 and 86. Huff is a head scratcher. If he’s our 4th WR out of the gate, plus our kick off returner AND the gunner on punts…ok…I can live with it.
Thats not acceptable for a top 100 pick in a deep draft..he would have been on the board with the first pick in round 4 we got from texans. And even that would be a reach…we played ourselves
..You better get a starting talent in round 3, we didnt. Period
I love how when there is a head scratching ‘reach’ pick, you can look at the trade back.. And see assurance through Howie acquiring an extra pick to accompany the ‘reach’
Thanks Tommy for your comments on Huff. Frankly, I am pissed about the pick but I trust your judgement and Chip’s. I still need some air though, this one got me hot under the collar.
I don’t know anything about Huff. Why do you dislike him so much?
He tends to lose focus in critical pass situations. Kind of like the Coop drop in the playoff game. He needs to learn to focus better in critical situations. He is a playmaker and Chip likes him in long bomb situations. He has delivered in the past. But some of his drops piss me off big time.
Of course the one time he doesn’t drop is in the draft…
If he improved the focus part of his game, do you think he has the skill set of a starting NFL WR otherwise? Do you think he’s a third round talent if he improved on his dropped passes?
Yes, he has potential with the right coaching. I just don’t like him at #3 but Chip clearly does, so I defer to the genius.
thanks for the input
50 yr.Duck fan says Huff is going to show up!!just wait and see…be happy, dont worry.
Because there was no shot of him beinv drafted before we draft again in round 4. He has good role player potential..their were still raw WRs to develop with starting potential…not a bad player, no shot in hell anypne can justify taking him in the top 100
I get all that…the pick was clearly not a great value pick and a definite reach. I was just asking Ducker specifically because he is an Oregon fan, watches him a lot, and seems to really dislike him.
I guess who cares we have 4 picks in 4 and 5? Is there anyone that you would have taken that we’d miss between now and pick 101?
I’ll admit, I don’t know why we took him over Moncrief. That’s really my main issue with the pick.
Having said that, I understand why we want him on the team. Hard to tackle, not afraid to block or hit on special teams. Works well in coverage and runs sneaky routes that suddenly get him open. I think a trips formation with him, Ertz and Matthews will do nicely. obviously there’s the versatility thing, lining him up for in the backfield, or using him as a pitch man. I’m not sure how I feel about that though.
Howie wants a team that’s not afraid to shove back when Richard Sherman and Barandon Browner come shoving, and that’s cool. Soft rub routes won’t do it, so you want guys who can make the catches with a hand on their jersey, or who can push through a tackle. Still…3rd round.
Oh, God, no. Millen likes the Huff pick. We are doomed.
I was just reading up on him & it says that he lines up all over, good in the slot, good blocker & has “RB like” RAC skills. Soooo……Maybe??
He lines up best in the 5th round…
Touché Just tired of feeling like we we have been passing over better guys time and AGAIN. Big Fay C- draft in the works me thinks . : ( was Christian Jones still available? I HOPE NOT….
He’s off the board.
I think Jones is still available.
i mean off our board w/ that drug situation.
He is a great blocker. Sacrifices his body to hit big LBs and DBs. Very un-Desean like with contact. Chip loves his hitting.
he loves blocking, he doesn’t seem to like hitting.
Ohshit, Millen is raving about Huff too
its alright, he isn’t a first round wr
Funny thing is we’re getting great values with the trades but poor values with the picks.
Trades are mainly Howie, picks are Chip’s.
Hmmmm….
I’m all for getting your guy, but they better have had somebody planted in the rooms of the 15 teams picking between 86 and 101 that said Huff was going in that range.
Two-time honorable mention All-Pac-12 pick (2012-13).
Honorable mention is honorable to mention
haahhaahahah, sort of surprised kelly seems so lost this draft.
Goes turner.
Blech
Ladies and gents, welcome to Philadelphia. The home of the Ducks.
are you there right now?
You mean at the Draft?! No man, I didn’t go in the end.
probably better. I’m thinking of going tomorrow, but the way these picks are falling might just save myself the grief.
I just chose not to go. They might trade down again and end up picking 4 more WR’s in the 7th round.
Even though they are meaningless, granted, I feel like we’ve got a big fat C commingle on our grade. Feels like we’ve passed over more talented players. Time after time. : /
I gotta agree with you on this one. Time will tell, but my guts not telling me any nice things so far.
It’s probably every duck’s dream to become an eagle…
Stop being a copy duck, mate.
No, we want to become Seahawks. (Just kidding, here in Oregon real seahawks get their asses kicked by Eagles over fish, nests, etc. I see it all the time in the refuge that my house borders. Truth.)
I’m sure this is illegal in the U.S., but a cage-match between an eagle and a seahawk would be a pretty sweet pay-per-view event.
(Ornithology update: a seahawk (or “sea hawk”) is actually an osprey… which differs from an eagle because it has a reversible outer toe.. Learning – it’s fundamental))
Eagles are much bigger, and meaner. Really, there is no contest with an Osprey. They fly away like a bat out ah hell.
Eagles are mean mofo’s in the wild.
Now we got bats in this thing??? I thought we’d save them for Bird Smash 4…
Get your learn on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_SjhcdF_J4&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Some of you guys get waaaaaaay too worked up over these picks. Just look at it this way – Nate Ilaoa was once the consensus TATE Best Draft Selection, our most successful QB in team history was infamously booed on stage, and most fans thought DeSean Jackson (the same WR we all claim to miss so dearly) wouldn’t survive the physicality of training camp. In short, we’re all idiots.
FUCK YOU MAN YOU’RE WRONG…wait you’re right we are idiots
I was a big Dion Lewis and Macho Harris fan. 🙁
dion had some nice lil compact jukes.. but zero explosion.. and no success at catching passes
I reluctantly and humbly agree. I am an idiot when it comes to the draft.
I really hate to bring his name up again, but what if Kelly actually liked DeSean..?! Guess we would have seen more resources spent on the defense side in this draft so far…!
What if we had…
Latimer
Nix/Jones
Desir/Gaines
instead of
Matthews
Huff
DeSean >>> Matthews + Huff + 4 more slot WRs
Does this entire draft seem super weird to anyone else?
Edit for clarification: Not just Philly picks… but all the picks.
I think it’s playing out like TL suggested a few weeks ago. We assumed the Eagles would try to upgrade the defense, but maybe Chip is like “F it, we’ll go all in on offense.” Live and die by the sword.
I meant all the picks (not just Philly)…
nah honestly, i think some people are picking well. It’s just much easier at the top of the draft than the bottom especially when you’re only working for your picks.
I. Don’t. Like. So. Far.
Not a single pick was expected.
It REALLY does. I really had such high hopes. I don’t see a lot of “future stars” to put it MILDLY. Really disheartening man…
No. 2 Wrs 1 OLB. seems just right. A lil goofy in the choices, but im not surprised by any of the WRs. at all. always seemed like matthews would be a perfect fit with chip.
You know, its times like these that I just love that the Cleveland Browns exist. Because I can look at them, and think, no matter what the Eagles do, they will never take the most hyped up quarterback in their teams history, and accompany that with the news that their star wide receiver will probably be suspended for the season for drugs.
Only way Huff has value for us is if he’s one hell of a punt returner. I don’t think he did that at Oregon, did he?
Paging. Chad. Hall.
he has value as.. get this.. WR. i know its crazy…
You better get a solid starter in round 3…we drafted a back up and ST player in the top 100’of a deep draft…unacceptable…if you dont get a started in round 3, you shit the bed.. Period
Since day 2 is in the books I wanted to tell you that I need 16 more upvotes. Thanks.
I cant wrap my brain around huff being the 3rd,player we drafted,id he happy if he were the 6th player we drafted
Now Dri is gone.
we aren’t getting anyone we actually wanted. hope they do much better tomorrow.
There’s literally no redemption for that Huff pick. We could have had some high upside defensive guys over him.
Defense? We talking about Defense? Defense?
Lol.
Huff is like a welfare jarvus landry if that makes you feel better. I know thate your boy 🙂
Nope not even close.
that doesnt even make sense, too completely different players and skill sets
Ok listen guys, Huls is going to Ivan Drogo all these fools anywho, it’s going to basically be 7 first round picks when it’s all said an done. Smoothies set this draft freeee!
I don’t even know what’s going on with this post but I love it, Ark!
1 too many Alcohol and disillusionment smoothies, sorry
I had an interview with Huls the other day, freightening:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6K3IvJzJRg
I mean, Dri in the 3rd is pretty hilarious too.
Having the first pick tomorrow should lead to some spirited discussion in this here space…
Desir,Watkins, C.Jones, D.Jones, or someone else that I’ll hate.
Ha!
Annoyed we gotta wait until noon tomorrow for a good pick.
You should look into Pacific Standard Time… sometimes it has its benefits…
First guy that ever went to college from his tribe. Sooo…..there…that??
Desir or Christian Jones still possibilities tomorrow.
desir still available!
hopefully they go back to the war room and figure some things out
Tommy, thanks for being the voice of reason and providing perspective on the selections and strategy. Of all the writers, you seem to have the best finger on the pulse of what the Eagles are doing (nice call on Marcus Smith, and on trading back with one of the 3rd round picks).
Holding the first selection in the 4th (and 5th) round is strong – teams will be resetting their boards tonight and jockeying for their guy – Eagles will either take someone they love at 101 or trade back and collect more picks – either way, they’ll have the night and next morning to make their decision(s).
no one could predict this craziness — how do you overdraft on every pick? I hope chip doesn’t turn into jerry jones.
GUYS. It can always be worse.
http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/dneagles/Meet-the-Eagles-2011-Draft-Class.html
Look, if you take a dude who still would have been there for your next pick, you’ve made a mistake. And Huff’s grade on NFL.com was 4-6.
I don’t know how reliable the NFL ratings are, but all of these guys are rated at 5.5-6: possible NFL starter.
So who’s the 4th round pick tomorrow? LB Christian Jones? DT DaQuan Jones?
how about tonight?!?
I’m not going to bother guessing, every pick has been a surprise to say the least
Auctioned off to the highest bidder for their fourth round pick and their fourth rounder next year.
Hope so, kinda feels like we’re out of players on our board after that last pick. I do believe a lot of the players this team liked got snatched away shortly before our picks.
Christian Jones or Jordan Tripp after we trade down.
Desir, then hope Jones falls far enough to take
I mean, the best WR still on the board.
Sorry, is it still too soon?
Never!
how about another WR and de’anthony thomas
Well, He’s heavy for his height…there’s that
http://mockdraftable.com/player/4485/
That should make him more relatable to the fanbase…
lets call it stoutness
I know I’m tough against the run.
I’m practically immovable…or is it immobile, either or
I’m a 2-gapper.
Gonna need to be tough against the runs, if you’ve been drinking like me during the draft.
I had to be tough today, on account of laeagle and me “sampling” the beer list last night…
Samplers can become quite the misnomer when you get 8 of them.
laeagle made the astute observation that the menu includes the alcoholic content value, which obviously leads to a literal pissing match…
Nobody wants to be the guy with the sissy 4% ABV.
We actually saw one on there and mocked it… it was from Salt Lake.
it’s like doing shots for them.
4% is pretty reckless for them.
At least a good joke about that joke of a pick.
Reminds me of the story TLaw posted a few days ago. Reid wanted to trade up for a player in the 1st round. They got him anyway. The replacement pick if their target wouldn’t have been there was their second round pick.
Chip is a great football mind, obviously, but he, Howie and Gamble seem to be unable to read the other teams. They have to get better in opposition research next year.
I have the same impression about picks 2 and 3. For 1, apparently there was someone wanting MSmith at top of 2. They are being aggressive and getting their guys early.
Look I don’t care if Josh Huff was true value was a 4th rounder. It doesn’t mean you can fudge the difference in value. Look around at the other players picked in the 3rd and tell me most of them aren’t better players than Huff.
the players drafted before or after/ lol..
Josh Huff in action.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgl2wk1kxX8
That guy says Josh Huff with incredible consistency.
highlights against VA? who cares.
JOSH HUFF!
I’m not a fan of the Huff pick but I’ll try to offer up a rationale for it.
1. Huff is an ascending player – he’s improved every year he’s been at Oregon. I used to hate seeing him on the field but I have to grudgingly admit that he has gotten better.
2. People seem to forget that the Eagles have Maclin on a 1 year contract. If he busts, then the Eagles are without options. If he has an incredible year, the Eagles may choose to let him go.
3. Huff offers KOR capabilities and should be better than Brad Smith.
4. Huff is willing to sacrifice his body – both in blocking, special teams and KORs
5. He is sure handed. I hate Huff’s route running, and I hate his lack of situational awareness, but he doesn’t do body catches, and excels in catching those beautiful over the shoulder catches that NFL players need to be able to master.
I’m an Oregon fan, but honestly, I wish the Eagles would’ve gone defense or offensive line with this pick. *sigh*
So..we have the opposite of Avant? Oh that makes everything better.
Our receiver core is better than last year, period.
They haven’t played a down yet.
No
IghWell so far I cannot help but feel this draft will end up as underwhelming, SADLY. We got a pass rusher that I feel may develop to be good. Nothing more. Down the line. A couple of receivers that may combine to be average. Hoping so much to be wrong. On another note, the NFC west D’s are just getting sicker across the board. Ariz. Took a Safety that can lay the WOOD to go with Honey Badger & co. And the Rams add Badger lite in LMJ. I’m sure I’m missing some I’m SURE. Not sure who Seattle took but they’re sick anyway. Oh & I’m SURE Clowney & Watt will HATE having Nix tie up 2 defenders to free them up for their REIGN OF POTENTIAL TERROR. Sigh, could we please just snag one of those D’s over a game of Texas hold em’? So REALLY guys, HONESTLY NOW, does anyone have our 1st 3 red’s graded higher than a C or C-? Love to hear why if you do. Might help cheer me up! I REALLY expected to come away thrilled from this draft.
hope we don’t pass the ball against tx, our line won’t last 2.5 seconds
what? we have THE best OL in the NFL.
Their QB is Case Keenum. I’m not terribly worried.
i’m more worried about our qb. but forgot about that, they can finish running foster into the ground
worried about our QB? you crazy. Foles, chip kelly offense, lesean… best OL in NFL.. texans better be scared
If Clowney is what he looks like, plus watt, plus nix, plus their LBs, plus their DC who won 3 SBs? Thier secondary is terrible, but that pass rush is crazy.
and we have a great OL and great offensive scheme that can slow the pass rush.
great run blocking not great pass blocking, but ok.
they wont know when we are throwing it or running it… we gonna gas them out too!!!
I’m sure the 2001 Giants said the same thing about Trent Dilfer.
What are your thoughts on the draft so far?
I like it. Solid picks. Lattimer and Matthews were pretty equal to me so that was fine. I thought Huff could go as early as the third so I didn’t mind him. The other guys I wanted at 86 were Daquan Jones, Desir, Gaines, or Ka’deem. All but Gaines are still on the board. Little annoyed that OL is so depleted, there are only a handful of remaining guy I like and none of them project to be more than great backups who you let compete for a starting job.
I don’t understand the crying about picking WR instead of defense. We didn’t really miss out on any exceptional defensive players. We now have a very good WR corps. We have a great young pass rusher that I coveted. I’d give it a B+.
Not high on Yankey? He seems like he has the athleticism to play guard on our line. We could get younger there.
No Yankey is exclusively a power, gap scheme player. Doesn’t translate to our zone scheme well.
I have an A- or B+ so far with 5 picks to go
are you a teacher? would love to be in your class.
funny part is i been saying 2 WRs and OLB in the 1st 3 rounds is what i wanted all along.. so im content.
Chip Kelly was consulting your forum posts when he was trying to figure out what he wanted to do.
Worried right now. Don’t know why we’d take a role player WR before a DB or a DL. Something odd is going on.
IT’S A CONSPIRACY! CHIP KELLY IS A COWBOYS PLANT SENT TO TAKE US DOWN FROM THE INSIDE!
agreed
you mean before a role player DB and a DL role player… lol
we have a young QB and offensive genius head coach to invest in.. and he got what he wanted to get.. dont worry.. be happy.
agreed too
Actually the Eagles need more role players on D, esp more DL depth.
not really.. the DB room is full.. got plenty of role players.. we need to identify players that can develop into more then role players, esp on D
What?!?! If Bennie Logan goes down who’s stepping in for him? Or Barwin or Ryan’s? Eagles were very fortunate to not experience any significant injuries on D last season, but they do need more depth.
najee goode will step in at ILB…. dameon square at NT.. as for OLB.. that guy we drafted in the 1st round…
any more?
Really Damion Square? All of 4 tackles last season, I can’t take you seriously.
the eagles clearly like square. they totally passed on nix..
think it says more about nix than square
maybe, shows how they feel about that position some too
I’m getting the feeling of possibly another blown 3rd pick.
Hey at least it’s not the second round this time.
I’d love to see the Jets or the Jags decide they really want pick 101 and try to trade up with both their 4th round picks. either 4 and 15 or 5 and 14 in the round for that #1 pick.
tru.. that be cool
Still feels like we need a pick or two…want to see us pick CB, ILB, OG, DT, S, and would still love to get DAT late. Personally hoping we slide back a little in 4th and get Dion Bailey next, then Jones or Tripp. Maybe moving Graham nets another pick.
u just want positions?? i want good players, they dont have to hit any one certin area at all…
but id be excited to get DAT!! not too late either.. cause he wont last.Dri is already gone.. and DAT is the better all around player.
Huff is a tough motherf?cker. Returns kicks, plays ST. Matthews is tough too. They will block and fight for the ball. They will both make 53 and be on the field a lot. They can both do back shoulder catches. Huff has a pretty slick slant move, and really violently smashes the db on blocks.
Watch this:
http://draftbreakdown.com/video/josh-huff-vs-washington-2013/
No more room for skill guys on the offense. Maybe a TE, but we do need a young guard to work behind Herremans.
A corner, A D-Tackle (DaQuan jones?), maybe another CB or an ILB.
In Chip I trust. So let’s see who we get tomorrow. Plenty of names still out there.
Huff in the up tempo no huddle is a perfect fit for those quick screens n what not…
After watching some film of Jordan Tripp, I really want the Eagles to draft him. He would be great to pair up with Kendricks. Very similar agility and explosiveness. He could rotate with DeMeco for his rookie year and become the full-time starter in 2015.
Since I have nothing left to do but be a negadelphian
Allstar Rookie Team
QB: Teddy Bridgewater
RB: Carlos Hyde
RB2: Tre Mason
WR1: Sammy Watkins
WR2: Cody Latimer
WR3: Jarvis Landry
TE: Eric Ebron
TE2: Troy Niklas
LT: Jake Matthews
RT: Greg Robinson
LG: Xavier Su’a-Filo
RG: Zack Martin
C: Marcus Martin
LDE: Jadeveon Clowney
RDE: Jeremiah Attaochu
DT: Aaron Donald + Timmy Jernigan
MLB: CJ Mosley
SLB: KVN
WLB: Christian Jones
CB: Kyle Fuller
CB2: Darqueze Dennard
FS: Haha Clinton-Dix
SS: Lamarcus Joyner
Why doesn’t the All-Star rookie team use a 3-4 defense?
Because I’m a 4-3 guy.
I’ll think of a 3-4 one in the mean time.
Ha. I’m only teasing. You’d just have to name a nose tackle and pick a linebacker to sub out, and that would do it.
Right off bat I’d have Kareem Martin at RDE over Attoachu.
Can someone please tell me the difference between huff and maelh?
really doe? step ya game up
Assume if you had an actual answer you’d have given it?
im assuming if u had an actual clue u wouldnt have needed to ask that question to begin with. step it up
I didn’t, but I think your answer told me what i need to know, thanks.
You’re here *shows a random level with hand*, and I need to you here *raises hand to a considerably higher level*
Huff is way better? Seems a bit shorter, more stout. Think they have similar production numbers, Huff returns, Maehl does other stuff on ST. Huff is about .1s faster in the 40.
have you watched them play? huff is great after the catch. tough to bring down, has way better short area quickness then jeff.. relentless blocker.. thru out chipos time at oregon he has praised huff.
You can’t judge players solely on measurables . Have to look at there on field production
I haven’t watched any of Maelh’s tape but Huff is someone that still doesn’t make too sense for me.
His flaws
Decent RAC skills but gets caught easily
Smaller catch radius than a similar-sized guy in Jarvis Landry
Don’t think he’ll return kicks or play on the outside at the next level
Occasional lapses in focus and can whiff on blocks
Huff is a fighter, Maehl is a finesse guy. Huff is better by far. I just don’t like him because of past mistakes. But bear in mind I can’t see the difference between a duck or an eagle other than one floats. That is I have no idea what is best in the draft but will still give an opinion.
How about we stop thinking we know “where a player should be drafted”. Clearly no one does.
Juwan James
Dominique Easley
Weston Richburg
Paul Richardson
Trent Murphy
Justin Britt
Dezmen Southward
Christian Kirksey
Preston Brown
Jay Bromley
Spencer Long
Dexter McDougle
Khyri Thorton
Chris Watt
John Brown
Brandon Linder
Crocket Gilmore
Richard Rodgers
“Marcus Smith”
“Josh Huff”
That list of players is only players who were drafted way further ahead than where they were projected to go. Looking at media projections isn’t a great barometer for players “value”
too bad we cant look at teams draft boards…
in a deep draft noone knows what to do in the first round
I don’t like your facts. Please stop using them since my blood pressure is too high to speak sense to.
Now you sound like my ex never let something like facts or logic get in the way of a perfectly good argument
Here’s what I love about our draft so far… no one knew what the Eagles were doing in spite of it being so “obvious” what they had to do.
Also, I think people in general under value the fact that a team can’t “just trade up” in a later round to get their guy (or trade down to that spot for that matter). They have to actually find a willing trade partner.
Your facts hurt my head. Please stop!
Also, when asked the value of anything the proper answer is… whatever someone is willing to pay for it.
Grass is always greener, right?
The ESPN draft grader basically said “I have no clue why they picked Paul Richardson where they did, but it’s Pete Carroll soooooo….thumbs up!”
I’m probably higher on Justin Britt than any other draftnik type. Thought the kid had great feet and could be an excellent ZBS lineman if he added some strength. Even I only had a fourth round grade on him.
We didn’t get Will Clarke, obviously this draft is a fail.
oooohhh snap… i forgot thsi WR was still available.. im betting the eagles draft rutgers WR brandon Coleman tomorrow.
Chip said at the huff PC they could still draft another WR
is PC on TV or PE.com? For us out-of-state fans.
There’s always the VODs of it on PE.com
im sure its on eagles website, i watched it live on there
I don’t see the problem here you have addressed two team needs have two starters of of the picks the third being a quality ST and our in a spot to pick up your third starter in this draft first pick tomorrow with Desir. You then have picked up 3 starters in a draft that we had poor position and few picks . Then with late 4th take a chance on Christian Jones if still available perhaps can trade BG for another 5th or 6th then pick up some depth at OL and or DL and DAT with seventh. Seems like a decent B B + draft if that could all happen
All you people moaning & groaning about this pick need to relax. This draft has been so unpredictable anything could’ve happened. Better to be safe than sorry. They learned that when Green Bay took HaHa Clinton Dix right before they did.
Hell .. They could’ve possibly been trying to trade down again. That’s how some things work. Just like the Marcus Smith pick. I actually liked the pick. Sure it was a little bit of a reach.. but again; Better to be safe than sorry. If you got your eyes on a player. You have to do what you have to do to get him.
If they wouldn’t have gotten Josh Huff with the #86th pick who else would they’ve grabbed? Donte Moncrief? He’s inconsistent. Phillip Gaines isn’t the size Chip wants his corners. Basically he wants a “Richard Sherman”.
Here’s what I’m thinking will happen:
4th Round 1st pick: Either Keith McGill or Pierre Desir.
4th Round ***: Telvin Smith ( He’s a LB/S hybrid. Could become full time S)
(***if the Eagles can trade Brandon Graham for a 4th round pick)
5th Round 1st pick: If the above trade doesn’t happen Dontae Johnson could convert to a Safety.
5th Round 22nd pick: Whichever decent ILB is left. (or Daniel McCullers)
7th Round 22nd pick: Taylor Hart
Personally I was pounding the table for Trai Turner.
