Eagles Move Up for WR Jordan Matthews
Posted: May 9th, 2014 | Author: Tommy Lawlor | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 402 Comments »The Eagles went and got the WR they wanted…Jordan Matthews from Vanderbilt. He has size, speed, skill and toughness. What’s not to like? The big knock with him is that he doesn’t have ideal hands. He will drop some passes. Some receivers were born to catch the ball. Jason Avant is one such guy. Others have to work at it much more. Terrell Owens is such a guy. He didn’t have soft, natural hands, but worked hard to become a good pass catcher.
Matthews fits the Eagles offense well. He can catch WR screens and make plays after the catch. He is fast enough to stretch the field and go deep. Matthews is a tough, physical player. He will catch the ball in traffic. He will block. I also think he has a competitive spirit that drives him. Matthews had to settle for going to Vandy, but left the school as the all-time leading receiver in SEC history. He had a chip on his shoulder and that helped him to succeed.
Chip Kelly went to Vandy’s Pro Day. The Eagles brought him to Philly for a visit. This is a player they checked out thoroughly and they liked a lot.
The Eagles had to give up their 4th round pick, but they obviously felt that was worth it to get a player they really wanted. I do think Matthews is a great fit for the culture that Chip Kelly is developing in Philly.
2 picks in and the Eagles have added 2 big, fast athletes that were really productive. Good start to the draft.
_
Did you like Latimer or Matthews more?
He said on Twitter he liked Latimer more
Good pick. No complaints here. Let’s keep it up!
I much prefer Matthews to Latimer, better production on the film, Latimer more of a work out guy and rised because of that. Bring on r3!
Really thought it was going to be Latimer. Wondering if they really had to move up for Matthews.
Oh I think so for sure
Tough to swallow the trade up if there will be like 3 WR from your list, TLaw, at 54. But on the other side, if Chip thinks he’s that special so be it – he knows offense.
Latimer was better in the same aspects of the game imo.
New!
Improved!
Riley Cooper!
Jordan Mathews actually Riley Cooper with cybernetic leg enhancements. Why we sent him to Vanderbilt and have him re-enter the draft, I can’t explain.
And we had to rewire his brain to get him through Vandy too.
He’s gonna start from the slot. Makes it more interesting.
Sproles will do the slot work.
Seriously, from the scouting reports I’ve read, it’s pretty much really is Riley Cooper that’s more technically sound at what WR is supposed to do, but with a lot of what makes Cooper so marginal as a WR as well. He’s not really someone who qualifies as one of the big bodied slot guys.
At least, judging from scouting reports. I’ve never seen the dude, and never watched any videos.
Try some cut ups. More explosive, better burst. Better measurables (arm length).
And the slot comment is straight from Chip’s mouth.
Those issues are not what I was concerned about. We’ll see.
Chip said they drafted Mathews to play the slot next year
Love this pick. Not liking the trade-up so much though.
Said it in the last thread, but man. Really hard not to like the kid.
Chip said he’ll play out of the slot. This actually makes me like the pick more.
If Jordan Matthews become a 6’3″ version of Wes Welker………WHOA.
I guess Chip wants to get more WR screens going and doesn’t trust self-tacklin Maclin for that role.
Except now Maclin will be blocking on those WR screens..
He just needs to throw himself at a DB’s feet, get in the way a little bit…
The ole speedbump technique
Oh boy I didn’t even think about that…
seattle selected paul richardson, just described as a poor mans desean jackson…
Much better hands and toughness though.
well the better hands wasn’t really hard to do
or toughness…
Seahawks taking speed. I guess they realized the 49ers are old and getting speedy guys too.
Tom…no reason we needed to trade ahead of giants bills who weren’t going to take a WR… I don’t mind the player, but could he be that much higher rated than the hand ful still on the board? We should have relaxed, when two more come off the board, than you panic and trade up.,
.,,
We added a quality player, I’m happy about that…but let’s not pretend it wasn’t a poorly played hand.
Well the Seahawks took a wideout 3 picks later. Could have influenced the decision, it takes 2 to tango after all. Gotta have someone who’s willing to trade with you.
I doubt Richardson was on our board though especially in the second.
Great point
What matters is whether Mathews was on the Seahawks board though.
That’s fine with me. Latimer, Robinson, and Adams are still there.
I don’t think the Seahawks were targeting Mathews the WR they drafted is a different athlete.
Perhaps he wasn’t Seattle’s first choice?
well said, the flap of a butterfly’s wing
Happy with the kid we added…but no one I think we should have lost a 4th with 5 quality WR prospects left
Why? They got great value. The pick they traded should have only let them move up 5 spots. Instead they moved up 12 spots.
As I said in the last thread: maybe they moved that much because it was not expensive (only a 4th) and could have moved less… For the same price
Hope so….I don’t like feeling played
Probably figured they had to get ahead of PIT/NYJ.
Anyone . . .
What’s the effect of “playing Matthews out of the slot” on the kind of routes he runs?
Also, as an aside, Kelly’s basically saying that Matthews is a nasty-ass blocker
Really nice, polished, NFL ready pro, blocks, never experienced with bubble screens…only thing bad people can say about him is hands, but nothing that a jug machine aimed at your toilet can’t cure
Eagles always talk about the level of competition as being a key decider. Matthews played in the SEC, Latimer…somewhere in Indiana
TRENT MURPHY . . . available in Rd 5
we don’t have a 5th, traded in Sproles deal
LOLskins.
Sweet more slow guys that we can burn on the Redskins.
Hahaha Lane Johnson is gonna make Murphy his Bitch for the next decade!!
Peters is going to bury him.
Who you think will get embarrassed worst? Cwboys Demarcus Lawrence? giants Damontre Moore? Or Skins Trent Murphy?
..
I can’t even express how much better Marcus will be than all the young edge rushers drafted high in our division…look at those muts, ALL drafted In round 2….and fools have the audacity to call Marcus a reach?
That’s kinda hard..but if I had to choose
1a. Moore
1b. Muprhy
1c. Lawrence
We just outclassed the NFC east taking Marcus at 26…3 years from now we will look Brilliant for picking him
Have fun guys, 2:20 AM is too much for me!
good night sweet prince
i wish i could upvote more than once
bonsoir, mon ami.
no habla espanol
Prepare for the content you’ll be reading tomorrow. There’s going to be tons of it.
I know, I think I’ll open an eye at 6am, won’t resist to open my smartphone and won’t sleep anymore because of that…
Haha I did the same this morning. Sleep well man.
‘night!
One thing about Matthews . . . biggest heart in the WR class.
as in heart defect or high character?
Heh. I would hope we weren’t talking about hypertrophic cardiomyopathy here.
One hopes not.
No one has more character than Matthews in this draft.
Self-made. Driven. Smart. Physical. Mean on the field.
Will sell-out for Kelly.
I like the pick a lot because of the intangibles.
And the big heart . . .
Requested tape of opposing CBs at Senior Bowl.
How do you measure that?
The guy is incredibly driven.
Self-made.
Asks for Cut-ups of the CBs at the Senior Bowl?
Preparation. Motivation.
And BIG chip on shoulder
Oh yeah, I remember that Senior Bowl detail.
You give him the Andy Reid menu. If he can beat Andys cheesesteak record, boy got heart.
the love you take is equal to the love you make-beatles abbey road
take the derivative of that and multiply by pi and you can somewhat quantify it
We’re going to need more information on the rate of change for either the love you make or the love you take.
Given Lt(❤)=Lm(❤) the furthest I can take this is Lt'(❤)*π
Now if you want to ask about some high motor guys I think we can calculate that a little easier…
I surrender . . . you guys are killin’ me
Think about Matthews v. DJax.
They’re opposites in every single way that Kelly cares about.
And that’s that.
Hah, well put.
Great comment. Rec!
so in essence a statement pick and a half
Exactly.
Zach Berman @ZBerm 42s
There is a palpable excitement in the Eagles facility. Ran into a staff member in hallway bubbling with joe. Eagles thrilled with Matthews
“…bubbling with joe” made me think the Eagles were planning for a long night with lots of coffee…
football decision…
Just FYI, I just drove home listening to the 97.5 draft show. You’d think Marcus Smith played at the end of the bench for his middle school team the way the hosts and the callers are talking about him. We need to have at least one or two of the smart posters here call them and let them know the guy can actually play. I agree with those who think we should have traded down one more time and that Smith would probably have been there, but the guy isn’t a bum, and has an absolutely huge upside.
I’m not sure of Smith would have been there. Cowboys traded up for a pass rusher, and they had to settle on DeMarcus Lawrence. I think they would have snagged Smith there, Smith is clearly the better player.
Dude, I was SOOO nervous yesterday thinking they would take Marcus at 16..such a good pick for us
I’m not going to pretend like I knew much about Smith, but after looking at his film…holy crap. His first step is unreal, so quick.
He improves drastically for month to month…he will be the best OLB out of all the pass rushers currently in the NFC east…he will be ATleast an Orakpo type in 3 years(probably higher ceiling than that)..
..
Don’t underestimate his QB brain..
Not according to the guys on 97.5–they’d have much rather taken Lawrence. Idiots.
Attaochu just went off the board–I expect that’s where MSmith might have been picked.
Could we have traded back in front of Dallas? I guess we’ll never know.
I’m glad this is coming up, maybe you can provide some reasons as to why Lawrence is not as good a player and/or athlete as Smith. IMO I thought Lawrence was the better athlete. Both players had almost the same measurables but dallas got one in round 2.
Smith was second in sacks last year, but that is a weak conference. Smith can play anywhere. He is also amazingly quick off the snap (look at his first step in film, always first person off the snap). He also recognizes play action like a beast (look at Miami film).
I looked at the Miami video, he’s quick but I saw him run past the RB on running plays, also saw some him come free unblocked on several plays (is that a product of scheme?). I’m not knocking Smith, his sack/game was impressive, but I see Lawrence who is very similar to Smith (who may be as good, better or worse in pros). When you have 2 players so similar I’m thinking what is the boundary that separates one to 1st rd and the other to the 2nd, is it just level of competition? Other sources had Lawrence rated higher than Smith as well (e.g. Mayock) so I don’t think this is a case of negative Philadelphian sports fans griping just to complain about the pick.
One thing about his position is that he has to set the Edge, which he does. It’s the ILB job at that point to take on the run. I played his position in high school in a 3-4 defense, I was always told i needed to set the Edge, force a runner inside. That’s why it looks like RB’s are running past him.
Him coming free unblocked maybe just luck, but one of the benefits of a 3-4 scheme is creating those mismatches in blocking.
My biggest gripe with Smith is that he tries to eschew the blockers instead of engaging. I like how he get is inside arm past the blockers though, that is the general first goal when rushing.
This needs it’s own repost for the dumb media.
..
Giants Damontre Moore rd2
Skins Trent mUrphy rd 2
Cowboys Lawrence top 35
…
And people think Marcus smith is a reach at 26?’he will be so much better than the young edge rushers drafted in the NFC East.,,just another way we continue to rape the NFC east!!
Are they falling even farther behind with the picks? My god they’re just butchering this.
Ok, now that the shock of Mathews is wearing off, who are we looking at in the 3rd?
Pierre Desir is the dream
Jones, Desir, Latimer, Landry
we are going to get 2, no?
Read this guys.
http://www.anchorofgold.com/2014/5/7/5690820/2014-nfl-draft-scouting-report-jordan-matthews-wr-keeper-of-the-offense
And watch this video from it:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPjcrHfkn14
The trio of WRs still left still looks like they would have fallen to us at 54.
Blind Chow, if you’re out there . . . you’ve been missed here.
Hope all’s well.
We need more commercials.
I’m talking myself into this pick really easily.
Still on fence between Matthews & Latimer. But was never a fan of Robinson/Bryant/Moncrief/Etc., so……not sad we moved up.
Atuancho is the last pass rusher…all gone by 50
It’s…it’s like they know something we don’t
Whoda thunk it?
Crichton is still there.
attaochu to the bolts
We always here the complaint that Chip is “arrogant, thinks he’s smarter than everyone else”… that’s a really stupid complaint … being smarter than “everyone else” is kind of in his job description.
To be honest, he really only has to be smarter than the fans since that is who is judging him.
I don’t mind Matthews, as long as he catches 83 balls for 1333 yards and 10 TD’s.
It’d be more like 114 catches 1200 yards 9 TDs.
He is an upgrade. In the redzone.l.but this is Ertz team!
he would have to catch 200 balls for 3000yds and 30tds to make up for my mock outrage
With Lawrence going to the Cowboys early in the second, it makes me feel much better at picking Smith at 26. Not to mention Atta getting drafted before 54
Marcus Smith @MoneyMarcc91 3m
Congrats @jmattjmattjmatt my dawg! We prayed to be on same team now we are !!! God is good
Interesting synergy. What’s the story behind that?
dude bffs, nuff said
Wonder if it was like Curry and Boykin (same agency), anybody else remember watching that happen on pe.com live?
That’s awesome!
carter-williams and noel?
A 1st, a 2nd and a 4th for Smith, Matthews and a 3rd? Howie’s a wizard!
Bears took ego ferguson…heard we liked him
We don’t like Ego.
Big reach. ND guy and PSU guy are both way better.
Agree. Didn’t say we liked him in round 2 🙂
Not dogging the choice but whats better: Mathews or Latimer + 4th?
Latimer + 4th
Latimer may still be there in the 3rd.
I hope so. I didn’t want to give up anymore picks this year too.
Some thought Arob would fall to 3rd, I’d be so hype..even Moncreif or Jarvis Landry I would probabky rather have than the RB Chip will draft grrr
Where’s the run on WRs the media insisted was going to happen?
Was the WR class over-hyped?
Or are the teams picking every good defensive player before they disappear?
The dropoff for defense is huge.
I think that might be it. Teams are thinking they can get the other spots and wait for the run to start.
I despise pig face Arians..really don’t want to lose to those wimps this year
Other than the “college offense” remark, I like Arians. He’s a classic football coach. And a good one.
That is a big Ego there.
I knew his brother Id.
If Id enters the draft, we will probably take him, missing out on Ego and Superego.
What about his dad superego?
Other teams may well value Moncrief, Adams, Robinson ahead of Latimer
So we may end up drafting another wideout in the 3rd? Wow that would be wild.
That would be cool!!!!
Why not?
Ok guys, this thread seems to work better in terms of not tipping picks. Wiht Lamarcus Joyner already gone do you think the Eagles will go O or D in the third round?!
I think we will take bpa who falls…
Wtf is BPA?
best pick available
rather player available
I know. Was just playing. 🙂
haha can only read your words, not your emotion
He is German so good luck with reading those emotions in any venue!
Kirksey and another weapon..either WR or RB Tre mason
I would love Tre.
Guard and CB
How about Gaines or McGill? Is Marcus Martin still on the board?
all there
OL and DL.
or ILB
Gonna be awkward when TEN takes Latimer w/ our pick.
Why? Guy had consistent college production in the SEC as the primary option and was a leader in their building?
Oh lord. Now I’m just mad.
Eagles’ former pick on the clock.
Davante Adams is a bit of a reach, isn’t he?
He was considered a second rounder by everyone though.
got a hot gf though
ex gf…..
OK, so there goes Davante Adams…
Packers took Adams at 52. *HAVE* to think think they had Matthews ahead of him.
Agreed, i presume you saw A rod’s tweet about him?
no what’d he say
Something along the lines “Great pick, surprised he lasted(or he shouldn’t have lasted or something) that long”
noted
Finally a running back.
HOWIE. YOU SCREWED UP.
Why?
he lost
Eagles must have had Matthews way ahead of ARob, CLats, Adams.
I hope so, at least.
Me too, since they had their choice of them.
Great point.
I think they had him bunched with Lee
Thanks.
Chip said they were targeting Lee & Matthews, so they must have.
Thanks
Im sure they did. If they had 6 players they’d take at 22 but none made it and moved back i think if their target was WR in round two they would have stayed and picked one of the WRs they had targeted, Only reason to move up is if one was clearly superior and was unikely to make it to their pick
FWIW: Kiper had Mathews as Eagles pick at #22. But yes, he’s stupid.
Bet they move up in the 3rd.
I’m thinking we might see a running back with one of our 3’s
“Is this, uh, necessary?”
Probably a complete waste, but figuring we’re almost into the 3rd with only 1 off the board, someone is going to be too good to pass up in the 3rd I think
I’m not ruling it out. Don’t expect so, though.
Not good odds on any 1 position, looks like all of a sudden running backs are ok to be drafted, might be cleared out of the premium rb talent by the time we pick, which would relieve me greatly.
If Carlos Hyde is there and Jarvis Landry would be my two favorite picks in the third.
I wouldn’t mind Hyde at all with our 3rd pick
I love the Matthews pick! This kid is going to be good.
When does Aaron Colvin become a smart choice? Third is too soon, right?
4th…wait…lol
Yeah, that was what made me ask.
Yea…if boykin falls to the 4th due to a broken fibula, which rarely if ever causes a decrease in athletic ability, Colvin will fall hard in a deep draft with a torn acl
2nd RB
noooooooooooooooooooooooo
Denver takes Latimer
I want Pierre Desir & Billy Turner in the 3rd.
Sigh…
Latimer gone, Robinson still on the board
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck you Broncos. How many freaking WRs do you need?
Hopefully Arob/monceif falls to us…if not it will def be tre mason, or martevis bryant
thinking we’d take another WR?
We will…just dont know if it will be this early or jeff janis L’damien washington, shaq evans later…
Not fair if Latimer is better than Mathews now, Peyton effect.
i know it’s not the right way to look at it, but as a penn state fan i’d really pumped if we got arob
I’m going to guess that our next pick will be an inside linebacker
I thinking that, or bigger. We haven’t addressed the trenches depth and development yet.
I could see O-line more than D-line….then again maybe that’s tomorrow, 3rd does sound like D-line
Maybe the young backup linemen none of us have seen play are legit
Birds know better than me if Toddfather’s heir apparent is already on the roster. Still I figure with 3 players north of 30, can never have enough young talent being cultivated behind them.
Maybe..i havent seen our bavkups either…just cant say what we need if i dont know what we have
Eagles’ first two picks have been extremely high character guys.
Likely, “eat, sleep, breath” football-types.
Who’s on the highest character guy on the board at ILB?
If Shayne Skov could walk, he’d be the one.
Anyone else?
I don’t know but Christian Jones is the best “inhale, hold, exhale” type.
Well played
He’s still holding
nicely done
DESIR
Skov had a DUI and has had some issues early in his career.
On NFL Network . . .
I love how all the players refer to Melissa Starks as “man.”
Hellooooo!
they must know something we don’t
I think video evidence is required.
(But only if they are wrong.)
mentioned that earlier but a refresher is welcome!
Oops. Apologies.
Not at all. It’s funny – can’t not mention it.
That woman is gorgeous.
Correction: that ‘man’ is gorgeous
im thinking latimore didnt impress chip, shurmur et al when running the Eagles routes after his pro day
Wasn’t there something weird w/ his Pro Day only lasting 16 minutes?
I’m sure Latimer impressed, just needs a lot of work to expand the route tree. Matthews is more nfl ready, already has pro habits.
peyton will have fun with him
gotta agree w/you on that.
hope Clat likes Osweiler…
clat? oh… C-Lat.. ? lol
but to me IMO.. just guessing… codys 1st love was never football… compare that to jordan and its night and day…
I really like Latimer better, but Matthews did his stuff in the best conference in the nation, with by far the best defensive backs. Will be interesting to watch how they develop (along with A-Rob) this year.
I’d have taken A-Rob in a heartbeat . . . if he didn’t treat blocking like a disease. I just can’t see that appealing to Chip.
i like it. He has the production, the size, the speed and all the intangibles (work ethic, drive to succeed, IQ). PLUS the bloodline!! (cuz to jerry rice)
Better than Lee?
Well… jordan is bigger… faster… and has top notch work ethic… so yes i guess. i mean its really nit picking with a lot of these WRs.. plus Lee has the knee problem
Agreed. Feel any better about Smith now?
I feel the same.
masterstroke by 9ers, not just the pick, but the board movement.
Maybe Gamble wasn’t the only smart guy over there.
When you have few holes you can afford to do stuff like that.
How many RBs do they need…
Have they traded Chip’s ex RB yet?
nope
anyone else think that James might be a nice pickup for the Iggles if he comes cheap? Can’t see the 9ers getting much for him @ this pt.
Till they finally hit on one
Gore is gonna fall of a cliff anyway now and Marcus Lattimore may never be a NFL player. Do the hard-nosed 49ers rely on the fast rather than tough LaMichael James and Kendall Hunter(who isn’t that good)? Good pick.
Allen Robinoson dropping is crazy. if NE or seahawks grab him.. man.. watch out!!!
Is now a good time to say I told you so?
who are you?
Charlie Kelly:
not fast enough? the dude gets YAC. Very good after the catch. But yes he doesnt have perfect hands, a few drops, tends to double catch. But thats small things that most WRs go thru… plus those perfect soft passes from foles will be easy to snag… and we are talking at 22. not top 10.
A Roy Charlie Kelly • 2 months ago
Robinson was 38th out of 44 WR at the combine with a 4.6. That’s not first round speed.
morton andersen looks like a fat pat sajack
Shut your damn mouth ya dirty bastard, a piece of danish pride right there baby!
his new nickname is the danish, as in the pastry
He is also the guy who scored more than anyone else in the NFL. He was the consummate professional, which is why he played so many damn years. Clutch as fuck too.
for sure, and was wondering about the accent while he was up there, realized he’s been in my life for years but i’ve never heard him speak
Yep, even with his success, he remained hungry.
nice, wrong country though
Hey hey hey, don’t make me come find you!
I’ll Czech on that.
this has really gotten out of hand, lets finnish this
cheese danish
SJB off the board. Good, don’t like him. Reactionary move to SEA.
Sounds the same as Billy McMullen
man that was so long ago… the game so different now.. cant even compare
Tall and bad hands… How can’t you compare them?
McMullen ran a 4.61 at the combine…how can you compare them at all?
oh so.. that all you think you know about matthews.. well convo over
All these commercials are killing me. The Eagles are going to make their 3rd round picks while nfl network is still in the 2nd round
How far back are they now?
I don’t even know, but it’s gotta be like 10-15 picks
Seek immediate medical help for a draft broadcast lasting longer than 4 hours.
9ers have 4 picks in round 3
the rich are getting richer…
I’m falling asleep here man… this draft broadcast is boring as fuck.
Bout to be another WR taken….
they need it, badly, but possibly not as bad as tackle
OK guess not.
Nix is on a plummet. I didn’t think he would last this long
Those injuries man, must be bad
plus he is a special type of person lol..
Was just wondering if he’d be worth trading up for. I like Logan but I’d like a more traditional NT.
Nix is so damn slow though. IDK if he works for us. Logan is MUCH more athletic, but I guess it depends on how far he falls.
This was Tommy’s WR ranking in his day 2 preview:
WR Marqise Lee
WR Cody Latimer
WR Allen Robinson
WR Jordan Matthews
mmmh….
Clearly Tommy’s opinion does not reflect NFL front office’s reality. 😀
He listed them alphabetically…..after a few PBRs.
ha ha.
Rosenman turned picks 22, 54 and 122 into 26, 42 and 83. That’s pretty impressive.
Not bad at all.
Roseman has always been good at working the board, working the other teams and building a roster. If he starts hitting on draft picks regularly, we’re gonna see him shoot up those GM rankings in the off-season.
wow…really impressive when you look at it like that
Cossell just said that he’s heard that Redskins planned on taking Marcus Smith with their pick at the top of the 2nd round. So at most we took him 7-8 picks ahead of when he would have gone. He might not end up being a good pick, but let’s not act like it was a ridiculous reach anymore.
Would really like to trade back with one of our thirds to recoup the 4th we lost.
Am I crazy, or is “turn speed into power” the new phrase of the draft? Has anyone used this before?
A few years ago it was all heavy legged knee bender… there’s a catch phrase every year.
Another way to say momentum I guess?
Phrase was just made official back in January.
yeah, Mayock has been using it for years, used it to describe Vinny Curry primary move
That and “conflict catcher”.
That describes a few of my ex’s.
noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo arob
Robinson GONE
FUCK!!!!!!! ALLEN IS GONE!!!!!!!!!
First game is looking like more of a shootout with the way Jax is drafting.
49-28 us
unless these WRs can throw it to themselves I’m not too worried
Not if Smith has anything to say about it 😀 (they have no O-line)
Sooo Landry in the 3rd with Desir..make it happen Howie
Not a big fan of Landry
I respect your opinion but I think you’re crazy and would like to know why you don’t.
i can roll with landry!! I keep hearing him compared to boldin but to me he is more jason avant.. EDIT – just picked by dolphins.. smh
Way faster than Avant, and taller, too.
same height. same speed. lol…
actually avant may have been faster
so the jags have arob AND lee, wow
and Cecil Shorts, and Blackmon next year (maybe). Don’t they need an RB though?
they still mjd pounding out those 2yds per carry
MJD isn’t even w/them anymore.
oh, i didn’t know that
and i wouldn’t count on blackmon for shit
tru, but if/when he ever comes back DAMN they have a nasty WR corp
Jax did kinda desperately need an upgrade at WR. As bad as their QB’s have been, their skill position players with the notable exception of MJD did them few favors.
DB or OL in round 3
agreed.
BOOOO!!! lol
Patriots are just going to use their own pick again? They are just phoning it in this year.
well played
Seriously, they haven’t traded back 2 spots for an extra 7th ONCE this year.
mad allen robinson is gone.. lol… damn..
same here, at least he’s in the afc
yea there was no way he was gonna drop to us in the 3rd
Well, you will get to see if he is NFL-ready week 1…
tru wasnt even thinking about that… get to see bortles Lee and Allen.. lol
So are the patriots I think
L M * A O . . . Willie McGinnest. Best guest announcer of the night.
Lets trade Casey Matthews for Blackmon
Interesting. Patriots are always interesting.
wow, garoppolo to NE
love how willie mcginniest fucked with the giants fans sooo bad!
I think he was talking to the Jets fans
well i was thinking the giants/pats superbowl connection, but yeah jets fans too
Hate to say it, but I think the Giants get the last laugh in that connection….
unfortunately
true, i got that backwards
I thought it was the Jets fans.
i think there’s also a huge rivalry with the giants as well because of the giants stealing two super bowls from them
Ugh, SEA is going to take Desir. I know it.
We should trade Matt Barkley to Houston for a 2014 5th and 2015 2nd.
nah.. hold on to him, let him have a great preseason and get as much as we can for that slacked jaw’d yokel
So are the Patriots thinking they’re going to stash this guy for the next 5 years until Brady retires or… is it worth a 2nd for a backup?
Maybe they want to pull a Kolb.
Yes . . . Matt Millen giving his opinion on a WR. We should take that to the bank.
Don’t take it to a bank in Detroit. I don’t think there are any in Detroit any more.
Jordan Matthews 6’3″ 215 bad hands Billy McMullen 6’4″ 215 bad hands…fukciing deja vu…
Jordan Matthews 4.4 forty, Billy McMullen 4.6 forty
Also, I loved McNabb, but just like Vick he refused to throw to a closely covered WR. Foles doesn’t share that flaw. McMullen might have been ok with a Foles type QB.
to be fair he didnt have many guys that can compete for those closely covered catches.. best was TO.. and we seen what happened.. next best? jason avant/ lol… maybe kevin curtis.. lol
It would be moronic to claim 4.46 is fast for a WR. Add both slow.
4.46 puts him faster than 72% of the WRs drafted in the past 10 yrs…which is really fast considering he’s also 6’4” … http://mockdraftable.com/player/4349/
By comparison ODB ran a 4.43, Mike Evans ran a 4.53, Cody Lattimore ran a 4.44, Marqise Lee ran a 4.52 and Sammy Watkins ran a 4.43 … so I guess every WR in this draft is “slow”
your comparison is so limited and flawed… And he doesnt even have bad hands, just had a couple drops..
Charlie, don’t you know that all WR that are 6’4″ are just like Billy McMullen? It’s science…
… oh shit.. i just noticed that… mike marchil must be a scout for the raiders
It’s ok…sometimes I too don’t realize how easy it is to completely disregard a players entire skill set and college production based on over simplified comparison of similar height to a distant draft bust.
Matthews has good hands. Sure he had some drops and can work on his game, but watch his tape over the last four years. Big catch radius. Tall, long, strong, can jump and has Big hands 10.3/8
Someone hold me. I’m hating day 2 so much now.
Why?
Dude. Its all good. Matthews isn’t my favorite either, but he’s an easy player to root for and I trust Chip to utilize his skill set well.
I’m going to fast forward 15 picks. I promise I’ll go back and read the conversation tomorrow. The broadcast is bad. Just shut up and catch up on the picks.
So impressed with Roseman. Jimmy summarized it well:

niiiiice
Gotta love Jimmy’s artwork.
Troy Vincent with a tough name for his first announcement. Shake it off, Troy!
TROY, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
If that guy was a WR his name would wrap around to the front of his jersey.
Wow, didnt notice that Nix is still on the board. Crazy.
Someone has to eventually grab him. Just funny how nfl network was so upset that Manziel slipped “all the way” to 22, but Nix sliding into the 3rd has been pretty quiet.
New post is up.

Who’s left in the green room?
Jordan Matthews == 2nd coming of Billy McMullen
I think someone has made that comparison already.
Yeah. He did.
Deja Vu. Kinda like your earlier post.
i heard his cousin is billy mcmullin… oh wait.. that was another tall slow WR.. jerry rice. never mind.
This guy just swallowed Attaochu in their matchup this year. Can’t believe how far he fell.
Wait Chip Kelley cut the fastest player in the league in order to use a second and fourth round on a slow WR???? BRILLIANT!
Yes, but blood for him, is something that runs in your veins…
4.45 speed is slow? Not blazing but def. not slow
4.46 is not slow for 6-3, 210+. He’s not Calvin Johnson, but who is.
4.46 isn’t slow period. ODB and Watkins both ran 4.43’s. Over 40 yards that means they’d be about 1 inch further than Matthews
Slow is slow. 4.46 in today’s day and age is equivalent to Billy McMullen’s 4.59 in 2004
Like Jernst said, 4.46 is not slow for any size. ODB was 4.43, and I don’t think you’d describe him as slow.
Ole Dirty Bastard was that fast?
Yep, shimmy shimmy ya.
