4th Round – DB Jaylen Watkins
Posted: May 10th, 2014 | Author: Tommy Lawlor | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 348 Comments »Chip Kelly loves versatile weapons…on offense and defense. The Eagles added another one in DB Jaylen Watkins. He played S, CB and Nickelback for the Florida Gators. This is a guy who can do multiple things and be moved around in the defense.
Watkins is 5-11, 194. He ran 4.41 at the Combine so that adds serious speed to the defense. Watkins really stood out at the Senior Bowl. He was terrific in Mobile, just smothering receivers in the coverage drills. He had the speed to run with them, but also the agility to handle cuts and moves. Watkins has pretty good ball skills. He broke up 20 passes over the last 3 years, despite being moved around. He only picked off 3 passe at UF, but he’s got good hands.
I prefer using Watkins at CB. He really stood out in Mobile in man coverage. I’m not sure that skill is going to have the same value at Safety as it does at CB. We’ll see what the Eagles have planned for him. He has the size and skills to handle multiple spots.
Bill Davis was at Watkins Pro Day and the Eagles brought him to Philly for a visit so this is someone they had a lot of interest in.
Solid pick.
The Eagles considered moving back, but didn’t want to lose Watkins. This is a player they really wanted.
_
Interesting that they are opting for all seniors.
The emphasis on character and football IQ this offseason has really been remarkable.
To be honest, I love it. Not the right model for every team, but I think it is for Chip, considering the program and what he asks of his players. Really needs everyone to buy in, and he’s getting guys that will 100%.
It’s where the decision to cut Desean Jackson seems logical. He was not a fit with what Chip wants to do with his team.
Kelly seems to really want mature, dedicated, hard working players. We’ll see how that works out. It can make a lot of sense if you know how to use them.
he also needs reliable backups – not everyone needs to be a starter
Mature, dedicated, hard working, and intelligent players tend to understand the importance of fundamentals and a hard core work ethic.
Made a big point of it yesterday about wanting guys that graduated — probably less talent but more maturity
I’m really enjoying this draft so far.
as in day 3, or the whole thing?
The whole thing.
You may be in the minority. Day 2 was rough for some folks haha.
Yeah, I kinda over-reacted on the Huff pick. But I’m coming around now that my head is clear.
I think we all over-reacted.
That piece about his background made me like the pick more, which is probably not how this is supposed to work, but whatever, we’re fans, its nice to root for kids you like.
When you think about, only cooper is signed through next year. No guarantees that Maclin Returns. Huff has speed to stretch field vertically, so the pick is justified. I love Matthews, he is like a reggie wayne.
I like Matthews a ton. Love the size, and measurables.
Rich Eisen just said “Seattle Seahorse”.
That dolt lol.
Or “Seawhores”. Hard to tell.
Technically we call them wenches right?
I’d have to agree with Tom that I think we will prefer him at CB..think Exum or Dontae would have been versatile DBs who project as safeties better than Watkins, but Jalen looks like a better CB to me(unless Exum really gets his speed back)…
…
This was a really solid pick..don’t think people realize that we are building some nice depth in the secondary…all I know is say bye bye to that bum Curtis Marsh..and with Nolan and Watkins, it may spell the end of Roc “lead foot” Carmichael..
I think they wnat DBs more than CBs and Ss per say, interesting to see how they use him. Good that as a backup he can learn all secondary spots, but will he ever be good enough to start at one?
Could we trade up for Christian Jones now?
Worried that Chip thinks he is too stupid for testing positive at the most important time of his life, but if love to add him
I can live with a pothead.
I can live with 2 potheads.
C. Jones n T. Smith
Would be amazing if we took both of them in the 5th
I couldn’t care less if they smoke pot or not…I’m worried about Chip caring
Seem to disciplined to take him at this point, maybe UDFA, but think he’ll get drafted.
I like Cassius Marsh, but didn’t think his character would be ok with Chip..sticking to believing we add hart,Mauro or Urban..
..
Cassius Marsh and KVN are really nice additions to seahawks
KVN went to Detroit.
Huh? Didn’t Seahawks trade up for him?
No.
Seahawks traded out of the pick and whoever they traded with picked him up
Oh ok…thanks…feel better about him going to Detroit
Hart and Urban are real possibilities.
As is Josh Mauro…Chip will like the British Bulldog from temple..pretty similar to hart, so I’d assume he groups in with Urban and Taylor as possible backups for Thornton…Anyone have any possible NT names for late besides Deandre Coleman,Shemar Stephens, Justin ellis(doubtful because of lack of arm length), Baeu Allen(preferably Undrafted signing)???
Ellis went to the Raiders a while ago. Daquan Jones is the best DT on the board.
Thanks…but I expect our NT to come in round 7 or UDFA(no higher than 6th) which is why I’m talking the Deandre Coleman, baeu Allen types..doubt Daquan makes it out of the 5th…and I’m expecting Urban,Mauro or hart In the 5th at DE…I’d trade a 5th for a few extra late picks if we can
This is cool.

Don’t be so quick to dismiss man coverage skills in a safety. Seems like that’s exactly what Chip and Davis want. They used Chung in man coverage and as a nickel defender despite horrifying results on multiple occasions last year, including into the playoffs when it should have been obvious at that point that he couldn’t handle that task. Just imagine how much of it they would have done if our safeties were capable of doing it. Then they went right after Malcolm Jenkins explicitly because he could man cover once free agency started. Not saying that Watkins will play safety for us instead of corner, but just that it might be time for us fans to readjust how we view those particular roles in this new defense. Seems to me they want to blur the lines and avoid the same match up issues they are trying to create on offense by doing so.
Annnnd another trade back for the Seahawks
I may be the only person in the world that find day 3 of pe.com coverage facinating. So loopy and random. Talking about calling Nate Allen’s mom who taught Jalen Watkins in home ec
hahah really? i feel even better about the pick. Would feel much better if he had spent all his time growing up playing against his half brother.
putting it on now. They’re talking to Watkins on the phone
Dave is particularly loopy today. Usually it’s Merrill leading the charge. (Not during the interview though).
I remember when Merrill was beating the drum for Chase Coffman in his draft year.
RE: Jaylen Watkins
I wonder if his versatility worked against him in a way… as in, had he stayed put at CB (or S) the entire time in college if he’d have “better” numbers.
He says he would have run the fastest 40 of all CBs if he wasn’t banged up.
Interesting… I was thinking more like “stats” but that’s an interesting thought from him…
Damn..Daquan Jones was my PSU guy this year.
really liked daquan as a psu fan
Andre Williams to the Giants
Williams is bad
Interesting that Jags grabbed Colvin.
Is dontae johnson still a target? Seems like he and watkins bring similar versatility.
I think so..both offer versatility, but I see Jalen as more of a CB and Dontae as more of a safety
!!!!!!!
Geoff Mosher @GeoffMosherCSN 36s
Eagles have traded Bryce Brown to the Bills, per source. #Eagles get a future pick. More details will come.
Interesting, timing is strange though, could trade for future picks at anytime, guess they have time for tangential calls on draft day?
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO #byebyebrce #myformerfavoriteplayer
Need those details
Conditional 4th
4th next year can become a 3rd according to schefty.
good value
Spuds saying two picks
I can kind of live with it.
so what RB are we going after Ka;deem
Didn’t they cough up next year’s 4th moving up for Watkins? Next year’s gonna blow for Bills’ fans! Kind of like the last couple decades, I guess…
That got it back in the Stevie Johnson trade
Thank you, Anders!
Always saving my bacon…
Wow. Looking at this year’s Jacksonville war room, seems like they went on Extreme Makeover. Bravo.
They had to have noticed the notoriety they gained haha.
I mean, this is absolutely posh!
There’s a dedicated “binder” table… a liner in the trash can… water bottles…
With Bryce gone are we taking another RB? Using the conditional 4th to move around this draft? When we tried to get Spiller anyone thing it would involve a trade with Bryce?
I think we draft another RB.
Storm Johnson I’m thinking….but yeah, I’d be surprised if we didn’t draft a RB now
bills are getting an excellent player in bryce
Apparently the 49ers also have Stevie Johnson since the Bills traded him last night.
We traded Bryce brown for a mid round pick next year
Just heard that.
Sad to see him go, wonder if we got a lot of RB’s high on our boards.
Jets just drafted Shaq…hope they work on his free throws…
Seastrunk is comin!!!!!!!
Could be…..Chip knows him.
would be great
Nah, LaMichael James is comin once SF cuts him after the draft concludes and they haven’t found a trade partner. Lache’s time in Eugene was spent with him being outplayed by walk-on running backs and he had a poor attitude.
I’d assume that…storm Johnson as late round fallbackw
I’ve never heard of trading a 2015 pick that can be a higher pick in 2016.
Is Mayock high? Bryce was the #2
Polk got more carries by the end of the season. It was not as clear in the last games.
Polk had 11 carries all season.
he assumes sproles was higher
Good value for Bryce Brown. 4th in 2015 or 3rd in 2016. I hate to see him go, but that’s a good deal for a backup RB.
Didn’t Buffalo trade their next year 4th to Cleveland for Watkins? Did they have multiple 4ths?
That was the report, and NFL.com says that.
Only former Rams/Redskins HC George Allen is known for trading the same picks more than once.
Doug Whalley — Buff’s GM — joins an exclusive club
A source of mine in Denmark informs me that Buffalo regained a 4th by trading Stevie Johnson…
URRR!
Love trading the same pick twice
Got the 4th Buf got from SF for Steve Johnson.
Thx
We got the 4 they got from the niners I think
T-Law:
Isn’t a future 4th equal to a current 5th?
Same with the 3rd in two years?
I think thats kind of semantics for player trades. If we made the same trade in two weeks, would you feel the same way?
yes.
the reason is, if Brown played here next year as was traded after the season, his value might be higher or lower.
so I’m using today to value it.
Roughly as ICDogg wrote
In the roughest estimate sense, yes.
Also we swapped 7th round picks on that deal I think
Howie doing work, converting a 7th round pick into a 4th/3rd.
Making up for Andy’s work, converting a 1st into a potential 6th (Graham).
actually, the trade is for 5th Rd value measured as of today.
still good.
Fair.
Thing that sucks about the pick is that its the 2015 49ers 4th, so gonna be late.
ka’deem is gone
AC –
laeagle and I missed you Thursday night. We had a stool reserved for you right in front of the helmet phone…
One day I’ll get out there.
I’ve marked on my list of things to do before moving the big Linc in the sky.
You saw my nonsense about you leading a Segway tour of historic Los Angeles, right? It was purely for fun, but the more I think about it might actually be a good time.
Missed it.
Where can I find it?
I actually led tours of the home in which Teddy Roosevelt was sworn in as President in Buffalo after McKinley’s assassination.
My favorite story — invented of course — was about the pool table that Teddy took with him to D.C. . . . and which is still in use today!
(partial re-post from “draft party” post…)
All are welcome, and there’s even a rumor that AC Viking is making the cross-country trek to join us / host a narrated Segway tour of historic Los Angeles highlighting the city’s turbulent transition from desolate Spanish missionary to fertile orchards to fossil-enriched oilfields to silicone-enhanced sound-stages. Did I just start that rumor right now? Yes, but that tour sounds pretty sweet, right?
Nothing like a historical “stretch.” Did you dress in period costume? (NOTE: that means from an age – not related to feminine hygiene).
We went to Hearst Castle last year and caught the “historical re-enactors” tour. What was fun is that there were about 5 of them and they had to keep sprinting ahead of the tour to the next room, so we’d get to the parlor and they’d be playing a leisurely game of chess, but heaving for breath like they just ran the 40.
that’s great. they should have kept a hookah nearby to explain the heavy breathing.
I’m sure they were very tempted to jump in the Neptune Pool at the conclusion of the tour. In fact, in my twisted head, the historical re-enactors threw some wild parties in the castle after the tours had concluded for the day…
Ah . . . then you must have met Joe Turkel
period dress not required.
made up for it with the fact-enhanced stories
Well I hate to be dat guy but maybe DAT is on his way to Philly..
LMJ makes a ton of sense from the Niners, they just drafted Hyde, have Gore and Hunter and drafted Lattimore last year
I’m hearing things about LMJ and DAT. We’ll see.
My sleeper for us is RB Storm Johnson
#DRAFTALLTHEDUCKS
I wouldn’t do it. He might not even make it to their roster.
Yup, once SF cuts The Michael he’ll end up in Philly as a great backup to Shady.
DAT should be on the Saints.
There would be massive confusion in New Orleans.
“Who Dat?”
“De’Anthony Thomas.”
“Who dat?”
“RB / WR from Oregon?”
“Who dat?”
“I just told you…”
All day long…
Replace McCluster in KC
M. Bryant is gone.
Anyone else think it would be fun to hear Edith Bunker say, “Aaron Murray?”
I didn’t think so…
Sigh…
If Archie said “Aaron Murray” . . . we’d at least get to hear Edith say, “I didn’t know Murray was Jewish.”
https://twitter.com/caplannfl/status/465174769340395522
Dallas took Anthony Hitchens
what’s an Anthony Hitchens?
Short like Maclin. Slow like Trent Murphy.
For a second I thought Dallas took Martavis Bryant – that was not a good feeling.
Same
Bruce Arians got Logan Thomas…I would have liked to see Chip get to develop a guy with his talent
C’mon . . . who’s a better “Pro-Style Offense” coach than Bruce Arians?
Kelly runs a gimmickry college offense. He can’t develop pocket passers?
Right?
Just ask Arians.
to be clear . . . Arians is a schmuck
Pig face
College offense raped his top ranked pro defense 🙂 and will do it again this years!!
I’ve always though all Logan Thomas needs is a colorful flat cap and matching plaid pants…
Watched way too many VT games to want Thomas. Granted, he had no one around him after his first year, but some of his throws are ugly.
I know he is a mess…just think he is the type of talent u try to take on as a project….but we passed on terell prior, so no surprise we passed on Logan and are going with more cerebral QBs like Barkley to develop…
..
No reason we can’t develop Barkley into a better QB than Kirk Cousins..
LOGAN THOMAS . . . Cards’ future QB.
https://twitter.com/GeoffMosherCSN/status/465175801235648512
Here’s to hoping Stevie Johnson plays out of his mind.
I Suppose there’s a better chances of someone playing well for the 49’ers compared to the Bills
https://twitter.com/jeff_mclane/status/465175992215298049
So… we’re rooting for Stevie Johnson?
going on the fantasy team
Looks like it…… As long as it’s not the week he’s playing us tho
yeah that’s gonna be a 4th. WRs in that system, nah….
How many starting WRs does SF have now?
At least 3, with Crabapple, Boldman, and Johnny-Boy.
Anyone else? (Vernon . . . you’re a TE.)
Ellington was drafted by them and I like him a lot
Well, if we’re mean, we could root for all of SF’s other receivers to get injured.
So if the 9ers beat our asses, they’ll be helping our draft stock in *2* ways, niiiice.
Only if Stevie has a good game
Defensive Game-plan: Alright men, 8 in the box, make Kaep beat us with his arm, shade over the side of the field *not* featuring Stevie. Which I say in jest but actually isn’t a bad plan, hah
Unexpected news on Brown…
I mean not really. You must be bummed, fits your model of talented, athletic guys that haven’t really figured out how to play football.
I like Bryce, but it became clear last year that he didn’t fit in Chip’s offense.
Sure, just like simply cutting Desean Jackson was “unexpected”.
I’m beginning to think we have one of those Ahabs as coach. Kelly has systematically gotten rid the truly high end talents, and refused to draft any but our RT.
He’s a system coach. Not about talent but system fit, measurables, intangibles (hard working, leaders). Fact that he was traded probably says that he wasn’t in the building every day trying to learn how to run in the system, etc. We let Allen back b/c he’s a student learns the system even though he’s not good.
Yeah, but ultimately, guys like those fail. Exceptional talent anchors everyone else. We get rid of guys like DJax, and draft the heir to Damaris Johnson in Huff. Instead of truly getting BPA or anything like it, we draft Marcus Smith, who doesn’t have a evident high ceiling (Barr has a high ceiling, Dion Jordan has a high ceiling, Marcus Smith looks like he can be someone better than JAG who starts at ROLB). This is a terrible draft, and a terrible offseason in general for me. I just now looked at the 2013 draft selection, and see the same thing! Zach Ertz, for example, is not better than Jace Amaro in terms of his ceiling, and doesn’t offer *that* much more than what we already had at TE. Frankly, if we didn’t get the number four pick last year, how much do you want to bet that we’d have picked some solid underwhelming guy in last year’s first round? Bennie Logan is a good rotational guy who might grow into his role, but it’s still not a sure thing, but Matt Barkley was a horrible selection in hindsight, though I think of it as just not panning out. Like Dominique Easley, and his bad knees, it was a question of whether Barkley had just enough arm to play, and we lost that bet.
Seattle takes risks on getting their top drafts. They waited one extra round for Wilson, they do things like take that tiny, fast dude yesterday, and they get good FA to sign as well. Seattle *trusts* their coaching, and trusts them to make a difference. Do you see the NY Giants shopping David Wilson? Or unceremoniously cutting Victor Cruz, who’s probably just as crazy as DJax?
Frankly, I have to be alarmed at the state of the Eagles.
S8:
Well framed and therefore reasonably articulated concerns.
No way we know for 2 years.
You may well be right about this draft. Or not.
But if you are, no system can save an under-talented team. Which supports your point.
I’m far from alarmed, but I see where you’re coming from.
I think you’re underrating certain elements of “talent” and overrating others.
Playing football is about more than size & speed.
I have no reason not to trust Chip at this point. As AC says, we’ll know in a couple years whether this method of program building is effective or not.
Of course, football is more than size and speed. There’s agility, there’s vision, there’s film room work…
What you seem to miss is that evident talent is still evident. Not everyone is going to be Mathis, with his hidden timing and balance. Even so Mathis is still a liability whenever he *has* to be strong and maybe roadgrade. Yup, we can coach around that! However, we can coach around that because…oh lookie here, that’s Mr Peters, Mr. Mathis’ neighbor!
I don’t play that stupid game where people talk about how QBs don’t have to have arm. Logan Thomas was the next serious QB taken after David Carr (Garrapolo is straight backup), even though some games, you just don’t know what he was aiming at! Sure, you don’t have to have the best arm, but you *do* have to have more than enough, for almost all the feasible plays. Lightning in the bottle is still lightning in the bottle. You have Matt Ryan? Gotta have Julio Jones and his friends. Mebbe some good guys on the line like the newest Matthews.
We’re shedding top end talent and not making up for it in either FA or draft. If one guy was truly not coachable, then try again with the next really talented dude. Instead, we’re getting seniors with production from playing against younger players, and who doesn’t truly have much in the way of lightning. We get guys like Jordan Matthews, but are unwilling to risk even a lower draft pick for Martavis Bryant. Instead, Josh Huff is so magnificent…
Solid guys are great, you know? And nobody can fill the roster with high ceiling guys, because many will bust for various reasons. However, you *do* have to *try*.
Think we got quality value in return..good enough value to pass up seeing how much he can grow in year two of the offense,..I’m good with the trade even if his best ball is still ahead of him
So we were waiting a trade of Graham, we got one for Brown. You’ll tell me, the day is not finished. I’d be happy to have more picks next year and not think to trade back all time…
Absolutely…more picks!! Doesn’t matter if it’s this year or next
I think we move on from brown because the thing he lacked was football IQ, tremendous potential though, I wish him well.
On a positive note…vinny Curry fans get to know that he is safe at this point..no way we would ever accept a 5th for Curry. Didn’t expect curry to be traded! but it’s nice knowing I don’t have to worry about it
Curry’s first step and Smith’s first step could make 3rd downs interesting.
Couple that risk of pressure with Watkins disguise in secondary and QBs are going to hesitate then get nailed!
And Cox looping around Barwin on twist/stunts..while Kendricks blitzes the A gap!..
.
We should probably have some nice blitzes involving Boykin and Wolff
Did anyone catch what they got back for 141?
It seems that Chip is even more into QBs than Reid, want to build a QB team.
Did I hear Fine Young Cannibals playing over the P.A. in Radio City Music Hall? Yikes…
Baloophi —
This is masterful:

Yes, but that tour sounds pretty sweet, right?”
Especially the silicone-enhanced part.
KC takes DAT
Made too much sense
Oh Andy….
I’m OK with that.
5th for Darren Sproles is looking like a good trade. DAT, Dri Archer, Jalen Saunders all gone.
Time for predictions, to the minute, when the Eagles will select again.
2:45
Price is Right rules?
1 penny
Christian Jones at 1:00
OL
Need and ILB, DE, or OL. My guess is ILB
49 minutes from now
2:19 pm – ish?
If my conversion from BST to EST is correct then yes. That seemed about right based on how long it took to get this far into round 4
Okay… there was WAY too much math going on with time-zones, Disqus’s “minute ago” calculations, and the clock on my wall which appears to be slow… even for west coast standards.
Perhaps in the future we should all just agree on GMT…
I have C57 for 2:14pm, et
and 2:14 is wrong.
Baloophi . . . you’re right. 2:19 for C57
2:24 pm (EST)
Lost track of our picks, when do we pick again?
first pick in the fifth
Thanks guys
1st pick in 5th, then 22nd in 5th
lol same here
Draft Saturday keeps on giving. Kinda sad to see Bryce go but the coaches must not think he will be AMAZING.
If Desir is still there in the 5th, do you freakin take him? SO MUCH SECONDARY DEVELOPMENT!!!!!
Yes.
There we go.
Zumwalt, Smith and Jones at ILB might still be there.
Also really like the canadian OL from McGill
Good picks Anders. I’m with you on these picks but Jones’ problems might negate a Chip pick. I really think we are going with one of these guys.
Both Smith and Jones failed the test, so they might be off. Zumwalt has some Kiko Alonso too him.
No…I’d rather have,Dontae Johnson, safety who can play CB. But we need to shore up our front 7. Brent Urban/hart and an ILB like C Jones,
Just gone to the Browns
BOOOOOOOOOOOO
Ray Farmer . . . He’ll have a hard time topping what he’s done this year in the draft.
Done great for a rookie.
Glaring issues at WR
agree.
maybe he’s biding his time.
but he’s definitely sticking to his plan.
and i don’t think he’s deluding himself into believing the Browns are going anywhere next year.
he has two 1st Rd picks in 2015. maybe he’s already thinking ahead.
anyway . . . Brandon Coleman to Cleveland at some point.
Problem is, how do you suddenly change almost 1 years of research and board stacking with 2 weeks left and you cant tell your coach why?
Remember the FO knew, but wasnt allowed to tell the coaches.
Khari Fort is a saint….thought we would like him as ILB, but he is a durability concern
Freaking Browns man. They’re going to win a Super Bowl in two years.
WONDER who will be catching passes
You watched too much of Draft Day Man 🙂
Only if Gordon can get his shit together
desir gone
Meh.,,they need a QB. Manziel will be dead in two years 🙂
Two first rounders next year….
I have this feeling that we’re not getting Christian Jones.
Agree, those flunked tests has really dropped Jones, Smith and Mettenberger
Doesn’t a Mettenberger sound delicious?
no we won’t if we wanted him we would have taken him
I’m worried about it….but we absoluteky have to get an ILB…Telvin smith was literally probably getting high with jones. I doubt we want Zumwalt…did Tripp get drafted? The Pierre kid from BC? Flier on skov? Ronald Powell plays the edg
Powell makes sense as a move around LB, he has the same size as Kiko Alonso and Lokombo who both played hybrid roles at Oregon
Not if you’re going to be negative.
You must be positive. And say, “there’s no one like Jones; there’s no one like Jones.”
How sad is it that McDermott and Todd Bowles are talked as two of the best DCs in the NFL and both got outcoached by Juan Castillo?
I like Jordan Tripp next
It would be ironic if Tripp fell…
There goes Johnson. This is the part of the draft all our favorite “gems” start going.
Niners took Dontae Johnson, wonder if we target exum
maybe
Think we have bigger needs than another DB..but if it’s someone I assume Exum…told you we weren’t drafting DBs this year til day 3
I am think DLINE Urban, Hart, Mauro or Coleman or maybe they go Seastrunk
Will the 49ers ever run out of draft picks?
So crazy, the benefit of never having any needs, just keep accumulating picks…what the Niners are getting old? Cash that stuff in.
The Niners got old at safety and potential has no pass rush, but they took Carridine last year to replace Smith and just took a safety in the first in back to back drafts so replace the lost safeties.
This year they drafted 2 OLs to replace some of those they are loosing.
Brock Vareen is gone.
Man I really really like the Jaylen Watkins pick.
yeah it assures Roc and Marsh do not make the team and saves a roster spot and he has enough upside where he can be a starter by year 2
True.
But the Eagles have not drafted anyone related to Kevin Allen — Indiana University, Class of ’85.
Seahawks have some nice sleepers
Pierre from BC gone…
Since comp picks can’t be traded, these could fly by
Clever insight into the “time guess” thread below…
Bet they draft DAT next
gone
shows you how much I’m paying attention, didn’t think he’d be gone yet
KC took him
Bet they don’t, since he’s with Andy in KC now.
Ravens take Brent Urban.
damn I wanted him
Crap, there goes Urban
I’m pretty sure I took Econ 1 in the Texans war room…
I said the same thing the other day lol.
Then you are a genius, my friend!
Well, to be fair I said Biology but the sentiment is still the same.
I avoided Biology ironically like the plague. Basically, anything with a lab requirement or that started before 10am was “off my board.”
where’s that?
The only thing I remember from that class was that instead of “widgets” the professor liked to use “tuna fish steaks.” eg. “Let’s say you own a tuna fish steak company…”
sooo many comp pics
Hate them when we don’t have them…are we eligible to get one for Jackson next year, or do self-inflicted losses not count?
nope
no has to be FA
DEs going quick
Larry Webster gone.
Let’s get Ronald Powell.
Would not mind him
Ark87’s “$1 dollar” Price is Right guess on the estimated time of our pick is looking good right now…
I didn’t factor in the faster pace of comp picks with no trades allowed, so unless they go on a 10 minute ad break I’m beat.
There could be a small trade back… a bomb threat… anything could happen!
If I had the latest estimate I’d be arguing that the pick actually happened 14:08 so everybody was waaaay off.
Do we really not pick again until freaking 163?!?!? Damn comp picks.
EDIT: NVM I must have missed us in the order.
no 141
thank god
141 and 162 then a LONG WAIT
I think we have 141, it’s an error on ESPN
Ravens select Lorenzo Taliaferro. If I’m not mistaken, he designed and built the Duomo in Florence, no?
ESPN reporting AJ McCarron.
Not Brunelleschi
AJ McCarron designed and built the Vegas airport, no?
much of old Las Vegas, in fact.
There’s another Segway tour! But bring water!
I thought that was Eero Foles.
(Also, for fellow nerds out there, there’s a great NOVA called “The Great Cathedral Mystery” that explains how Brunelleschi built the dome… it was centuries ahead of its time in terms of engineering. “Spoiler”: Herringbone brick alignment was the secret.)
looks like we’re on the clock
Christian Jones?!!
Eagles on the clock at 2:04, ET
But will we make a pick???
2:04, ET ***
*** to account for Ark87 trade
Also – it’s when the selection is made… which might be subjective.
Looks like this will be under protest!
My challenge flag is ready
Pink in at 2:07, Taylor Hart, DE Oregon — surprise, surprise.
Taylor Hunt?
Hunt or Zumwalt.
Oops Hart, Hunt looked wrong.
We’re milking the clock like Marcus Smith’s sack celebration…
Oh boy… here come the “everyone from Oregon” jokes…
#Duckbias
pick officially at 2:09 ET.
Oregon bias. Fire Chip please
Maybe he saw what Kiko did and thought he can’t pass on that again. At least Oregon players have career prospects after college.
What’s Cliff Harris doing now a days? Just wondering.
Flipping burgers I think
LYERLA TIME!!!
Another Duck, cray cray
Who is Taylor Hart?
Anybody that is drafted to fun. is black listed
Quack Quack Quack Mr Ducksworth!
Oh come on, people. Taylor actually fits what the Eagles do on defense. Unlike the Huff pick, I actually think he was rated around this point as well. Sometimes I love being a Negadelphia fan 😛
Hart was absolutely a good pick…nice backup for Thornton. Kid is tough, plays the run hard. I can dig it
i didn’t think anyone here really doesn’t like the pick. there’s just a lot of duck jokes. haha
Us drafting urban, Hart or Mauro was a lock! Good pick!! Now get me an ILB, Deandre Coleman or Lyerla, Jeff Janis lol seastrunk
Not sure there’s an ILB that I like that doesn’t have character or injury issues @ this point. Doesn’t mean I don’t want the eagles to pick Demeco’s successor. 😀
There goes one of the two pot-heads that I liked. Telvin Smith to the Jags.
Damn it,..liked him too. Jags having a great draft
Get me Lokombo then..reach,for him if you have to. May not be a starter but he can run and cover in subpackages and Chip knows him
So I hid a webcam in the Eagles war room. Here’s the latest shot…
Don’t forget to throw some gators in there. Give Howie’s Gator hording some respect.
Okay, just got the feed from Howie’s swamp-themed office…
Swiped this from the VCR in the war room

the slow Quack:
“Quack….Quack…Quack..Quack.Quackquackquack
love the Chip small talk before the PC. Andy took DAT, i just talked to andy….
Lol Harbaugh ripping ESPN?
Hart and Curry will compete. Hart’s a 3-4 guy so Vinny’s chances of staying just reduced.
surprised we didn’t reduce him to a draft pick
Nah..think hart is competing with Kruger,, they are 5tecs backups to Thornton…Curry is a 3tec backing up Cox, and Curry is on another level, he should be an important part of our Nickle rotation.
Was just thinking that we shouldn’t forget Kruger. If he can step up and be a viable backup, our depth on the d-line is markedly better than last season.
Yes sir…I expect Kruger, hart,Curry,Logan,Thornton,Cox all to make the team…with room for Deandre Coleman,Shemar Stephans,Beau Allen or whatever late pick backs up Logan at NT. Keep 7, dress 6
Jax took Telvin Smith
Nice to see the kid from my hometown Bloomsburg get picked.
MIN takes Yankey
I need picks!! Lol trade back from round 5, hold a gun to someone’s head and make them give up a 6th for BG lol
NEW THREAD! CAPS LOCK!
EDIT: NEW POST! YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN!
sam going undrafted?
I’m happy with the overall draft. I think Smith is only reach pick. But, he is a proven player who got better and better.
