Sunday Practice Squad Talk

No Eagles moves announced yet. We do know that Damion Square was claimed by the Chiefs.

It doesn’t sound like G.J. Kinne will make the squad.

Beyond that, we’re still waiting.

I’ll post updates as they come along.

Steelers signed Alejandro Villanueva to their PS. Great for him.

  4. 4 ACViking said at 1:44 PM on August 31st, 2014:

    fantastic.

I wonder, with the expanded PC roster, if the Rooney family pushed for the signing. Great owners . . . and AV also fits their defense.

Probably not. Good story all around.

  5. 5 bridgecoach said at 1:57 PM on August 31st, 2014:

Didn’t hurt that he had a strong preseason game against them.

  10. 10 TommyLawlor said at 1:40 PM on August 31st, 2014:

Henry Josey has reportedly cleared waivers. Still, don’t count on him for the PS.

  11. 11 wee2424 said at 1:48 PM on August 31st, 2014:

Tommy why? I understand his blocking is a problem, but thats what the PS is for, to help develop. Yes he does lack on ST, but is that enough to keep him off PS? The kid showed some potential as a runner.

  12. 12 anon said at 2:48 PM on August 31st, 2014:

no blocking no ST. bad combo for a backup.

  13. 13 wee2424 said at 4:36 PM on August 31st, 2014:

Yeah but i think he cld work on his blocking on PS. Its not like he would count against the roster. He just showed to much potential as a runner to completely toss him aside.

  14. 14 BreakinAnklez said at 9:08 AM on September 1st, 2014:

Keep in mind he showed that potential against a lot of guys who are on the street now as well

Apparently what you meant to say is not what you said. So yes i had to state the obvious.

  17. 17 SteveH said at 1:54 PM on August 31st, 2014:

Wonder if the knee is scaring people. Does Josey play ST’s? Could be the issue… Just once I want a player I have an irrational attachment to to work out!

  18. 18 mksp said at 1:47 PM on August 31st, 2014:

And so Henry Josey, much like the great Emmanuel Acho before him, crushes the hopes of delusional Eagles fans everywhere who couldn’t wait to self-righteously start beating their chest about how they *knew* Josey would be claimed and the Eagles would regret ever letting him go.

  19. 19 mksp said at 1:52 PM on August 31st, 2014:

Also, for the record, I quite like Josey, and hope he is successful. Seems like a good kid with a great story. Best of luck to him.

  20. 20 SteveH said at 1:55 PM on August 31st, 2014:

Josey ferver wasn’t as extreme as Acho was last year. Acho was the 3rd ILB and a mortal lock in most peoples minds, I think even Tommy had him penciled in as the #3 ILB.

  21. 21 TommyLawlor said at 1:52 PM on August 31st, 2014:

Shayne Skov to the Niners PS.

  22. 22 bridgecoach said at 1:56 PM on August 31st, 2014:

Great guy. Racks up tackles. Terrific special teamer. More athletic than people think.

  23. 23 TommyLawlor said at 1:56 PM on August 31st, 2014:

  25. 25 mksp said at 2:01 PM on August 31st, 2014:

  27. 27 SteveH said at 2:05 PM on August 31st, 2014:

  28. 28 wee2424 said at 2:10 PM on August 31st, 2014:

Texans were stingy with picks I wonder if Howie was trying to talk them.

  30. 30 ACViking said at 2:07 PM on August 31st, 2014:

    T-Law:

Ryan Lindley lives . . . cut by AZ, added to the Chargers PS.

I remember after the 2012 draft, we exchanged comments noting that we’d have like to have seen Lindley be the QB drafted by the Birds. Bigger arm than Foles. And Lindley had that really good junior year.

    At least, that’s my recollection.

  31. 31 ACViking said at 2:08 PM on August 31st, 2014:

Re: Mallett to Texans (for a 6th)

    T-law:

How do you project O’Brien using him?

Starter by week [fill in the blank]?

    Or just a guy?

  32. 32 SteveH said at 2:23 PM on August 31st, 2014:

Remarkable, the Patriots didn’t absolutely fleece someone in a trade. It is telling though that the Texans are willing to try other teams scraps at QB. If the Pats thought Mallet was any good they wouldn’t have drafted Garrapolo and let Mallet go with Brady so close to the end of his career.

  33. 33 anon said at 2:46 PM on August 31st, 2014:

Their Qb situation is terrible. Now i feel like i should have grabbed andre johnson in fantasy.

  34. 34 TommyLawlor said at 2:29 PM on August 31st, 2014:

The Texans had nothing at QB. Rookie Tom Savage has potential, but O’Brien must not think he’s ready.

Mallett has been in the league for a few years. He will likely be the starting QB pretty soon. Isn’t a long term solution, but is something for now.

  35. 35 RobNE said at 2:31 PM on August 31st, 2014:

Why would Texas with first in line waiver claim offer anything at all???

  36. 36 CrackSammich said at 2:50 PM on August 31st, 2014:

  58. 58 BlindChow said at 8:19 PM on August 31st, 2014:

If he was claimed off waivers the team would have to put him on their roster.

There was no danger of another team putting him on their PS, as that’s up to him. Very unlikely he would choose another team’s PS.

  59. 59 Dominik said at 6:25 PM on August 31st, 2014:

If he stays at the PS we caught a bullet. Doesn’t mean it was right to have Maehl on the roster and him not.

But I’m happy if he’s here next year. At least the wasted roster spot for Maehl won’t hurt us then.

  97. 97 Dominik said at 6:32 PM on August 31st, 2014:

Did you read that piece on the Eagles Almanac from that Oregon/Eagles fan author? He said Murphy was average in Oregon, too. Wanted to get into coaching after his college career because he knew he hasn’t the talent for the NFL before the Eagles called and signed him. I don’t want to open the book with Oregon bias etc. again, but what is he doing on our or any PS?

He has a great work ethic, apparently, but there are probably 100.000 players with great work ethic. A little bit of talent should be there, too.

I thought there was a rule you could not sign a guy from a teram you were going to play that week. Maybe technically it’s not the week yet.
Still it stinks. Josey will be pumped for info. How hurt is McCoy, or Huff? What throws has Foles been working on in recent days. How do they move Malcolm Jenkins around? Lots of little tips that could help Jax….

  103. 103 Flyin said at 5:44 PM on August 31st, 2014:

Honestly, it really doesn’t bother me. Gus has all the film from last year. Kelly has only had the starters focusing on Jax.

  104. 104 Dragon_Eagle said at 5:45 PM on August 31st, 2014:

A practice squad player can not sign with their team’s upcoming opponent, unless they do so six days before the upcoming game or 10 days if their team is currently on a bye week.
The rule applies to practice squad players being signed to an active roster prior to playing the opponent. Someone eligible for the PS is not under contract, like Josey.

If we can’t put the beat down on a Chad Henne led Jax even with all of the inside info from a 4th/5th string RB, we’re in trouble.

  105. 105 barneygoogle said at 8:53 PM on August 31st, 2014:

Depends on what info he can give them. Gus would love to open with a win–make his season. Opening games are unpredictable as it is. Under Hawaiian-shirt Andy, we got upset a few times. Lets hope Kelly can be 2-0.

  106. 106 barneygoogle said at 5:28 PM on August 31st, 2014:

Is that allowed? He plays the Eagles next. The league should not allow that. Does Jax want our playbook? Hope Josey doesn’t have the game plan for week 1

  108. 108 Jernst said at 5:39 PM on August 31st, 2014:

Didn’t we guarantee Momahs practice squad salary for 2 yrs when we initially picked him up? They must really not like him to pay him and still not have him around.

  109. 109 Dominik said at 6:35 PM on August 31st, 2014:

The PS guarantee salary wise was for Bamiro, who had a very disappointing summer. Not a big Momah fan, but I’d prefer him over Will Murphy.

  110. 110 GEAGLE said at 5:46 PM on August 31st, 2014:

I don’t agree with crying over some Oregon bias. But If I’m keeping it real, I’m not that thrilled with our practice squad.

Josh Andrews I don’t like at all… There was a major difference between Molk and Andrews in preseason. There were times Molk had the highest grade in the team and Andrews at the worst grade… That’s a major discrepancy between backups…

Will Murphy, I don’t see how anyone sees more upside in developing him than Momah, especially after how much Momah improved on his own(and I’m not even one of Mitchell’s momatron cult members)

    And I don’t like Wade at all….

I’m also not sure how much unrealized potential Acho has left in him, that he would be someone we want to develop.

I also don’t get why so many people wanted Kinney on PS? For what? No one will steal him and he will be our training camp QB every summer..no need to practice squad him..

Glad we have Reynolds, Tucker and Pratt..

Lol @ eagles fans who thought Chris Clemons was a better safety than Jenkins… While Jenkins been balling for us and growing as one of our leaders, texans cut Chris Clemons today..lol he didn’t even make it to the season

For what it’s worth, I believe PFF had him as highest rated safety in the Preseason.

Get revenge on JAX for signing Josey to their PS. Sign CB Jamell Fleming to ours.

I doubt we’re going to add whoever cleared waivers from other teams to our practice squad. 2 spots left, I wonder if Momah will make it?

We placed Barner on IR? He played 3 minutes as an eagle…

How ’bout your guy, Jonathan Dowling making the Raiders at S.

Bad team, yes. But he’s the kind of guy Al Davis would’ve embraced.

Did the Eagles put in any waiver claims? I’m surprised we didn’t go after Nico Johnson, Kelvin Sheppard or Dontay Moch.

  122. 122 Insomniac said at 6:01 PM on August 31st, 2014:

I’d like Kelvin Sheppard. He played in a 3-4 defense for the Colts so he has experience there.

  123. 123 Stormbringer said at 6:03 PM on August 31st, 2014:

I was thinking they would all be an upgrade to Casey Matthews. Moch has tremendous athletic ability as well.

  124. 124 Insomniac said at 6:08 PM on August 31st, 2014:

Moch is really raw and not a “Chip” type LB. He wouldn’t be an ILB here since he’s not good at reading QBs nor is he the best tackler. He’d be a nice project for the Predator role though if we pick him up.

I lost you at Clemenza. Mi scusi (as an old man who drank too much wine might say.)
