Seeing Smith inactive is good and bad news. The bad news is obvious. You want your 1st round pick to play and contribute, if on STs if nothing else.
The good news is that having Smith inactive shows you how much confidence the coaches now have in Brandon Graham. Last week the Eagles rotated Trent Cole, Connor Barwin and Graham. That brought out the best in all 3. Expect to see the coaches mix and match their 3 OLBs again tonight.
Being inactive doesn’t make Smith a bust. He’s the #4 OLB right now. He’s behind a pair of good starters and Graham, who played well last week. The bigger disappointment to me is that he’s not beating someone else out for a STs role. Last week Smith was active, but didn’t play. He hadn’t earned a STs role.
Smith has shown the physical ability needed to succeed in the NFL. He needs a lot of coaching, though. Raw talent doesn’t always translate to polished football skills.

I have not been a fan of picking him in the first, especially when they basically admitted that they viewed him as a second round pick, but I have been hoping that he would make me eat crow. Being inactive as a first round pick, regardless of if it is only his second game is not a good sign.

Well when you’re running A gap blitzes EVERY SINGLE TIME people are going to adjust. That’s why they ran that exact play. We lose a LB blitzing.
Exactly my point…We’re leaving it wiiiiiide open for Luck to just make an easy drop off to the flats. We have yet to get a good clean sack on him, but yet insist on blitzing up the middle over and over again…

He keeps going for the big play rather than just move the ball in small chunks and utilizing the tight ends.
yeah that’s what was good about him in pre-season last year. But big plays are sexy.
Just caught up with the game. Encouraged by Foles. This is the opposite of hte last game. I think offense is playing well but not much points to show for it. While last week the score was not indicative of how poorly the offense was playing.
Playcalling on both sides of the ball is killing us.
I think both lines are getting owned regularly. Most playcalling won’t look good when that’s the case.
