Welcome Back Nick

It certainly wasn’t perfect and the Eagles have plenty of issues to deal with, but any time you play an emotional division game and win…that’s big. It means more in the standings, but it also means more to the people involved. A loss to the Colts would have been “meh”. A loss to the Skins would have stuck with people for a few days.
The other part of this is that Washington played really well for parts of the game. Kirk Cousins made some great throws. Pierre Garcon had a terrific game. There weren’t any tricks or gimmicks. The Skins just executed really well. When you can overcome a good showing by your opponent, that means something.
WAS shut down Shady McCoy and the run game. The Eagles OL ws a mess at the end of the game. You had:
LT Gardner – LG Smith – C Molk – RG Kelly – RT Herremans
That group had never played together. Smith’s only been here for a week and a half or so. With a makeshift OL and no run game, it was up to Nick Foles and the passing game to carry the load. That’s exactly what they did. Foles played his best game of the year. He got the ball to his WRs and they delivered a lot of big plays. The Eagles had 6 more plays of 20 or more yards. Jeremy Maclin played his best game in a long time. Jordan Matthews caught 2 TD passes.
Foles took a major beating and kept getting back up. He made some great throws, but you can argue that the toughness he showed today was the most impressive part of his game. There were several times when I was sure he’d be out of there. He never missed a snap. Foles finally looked like the guy we watched last year.
The Eagles absolutely won the STs battle. Chris Polk returned a KO 102 yards for a TD. Cody Parkey continues to be a touchback machine. He also nailed a 51-yd FG at a key juncture in the game. Darren Sproles almost took a PR for a big play, but got tripped up after only a good gain. And the Skins missed a FG, which led me to say this on Twitter.
The Eagles coaching staff put that goal post in a position to succeed. And it did. That's good coaching.

Feels great to see the Eagles get to 3-0. Let’s hope Jason Kelce is going to be able to recover quickly. He’s one guy up front that you really don’t want to miss.
_
On that cheap shot by Chris Baker, the guy he was nominally blocking for was already on the ground when he hit Foles. I hope we don’t lose Peters for another game for sticking up for Foles.
Peter’s deserves a crown for taking on the whole Redskins defense. If the bitch didn’t grab his facemask during the fight Peter’s would have ripped him apart.
Peters landed a punch in his face, which has me worried about a suspension… But he had to do it, you can’t suspend him for it, you suspend him if he doesn’t stick up for his QB
Peters hurt his team because of it. Even worse if he’s suspended for more games. Yeah, but who cares if Nick gets crushed next week because they play a backup? At least Peters can pat himself on the back for being a “big man.”
You’re right, just let your QB get crushed and walk away. That is what pussys do. His actions show that those guys out there have each others back. Nick doesn’t have to worry about his blindside because of what he saw Peter’s do for him. Almost everyone here would have done the same thing.
see falcons 2013
Is that were Ryan got slammed and everyone just walked away from him? That’s what Blindchow wants our team to do.
lol, are you that dense? Like the only two options are letting the QB “sit in the dirt” and go up to a guy and hit him in the face… smh
But yeah, he sure helped the QB when he was on the sideline for the rest of the game, eh? You probably can’t comprehend how it hurt the team, and I understand. Emotions can cloud intellectual reasoning sometimes. Happens to a lot of children.
You have obviously never played a team sport….. It absolutely hurt the team but there are some things you can’t tolerate as a teammate.
Seems several of the Eagles are children as well: http://www.phillymag.com/birds247/2014/09/21/jason-peters-answers-call/#more-2844852
And it looks like Baker learned his lesson lol.
http://www.phillymag.com/birds247/2014/09/21/baker-foles-hit/
He’s obviously an idiot and is wrong. Neither he nor Peters will be suspended. Peters did the right thing.
Yeah, I saw that episode of Hard Knocks, too. Good point. I bet they wouldn’t have gone 4-12 if only one of their linemen had been ejected from the game…
Lol, yeah he’s gonna be a big help from the sideline next week. Real smart play. Good call.
Yep should have just walked away, let our qb sit in the dirt and go back to the bench. That would have been the smart play and good call.
why, will Peter’s be suspended? without pay?
..
he’s got Roger Goodell ready to make a hypocrite of himself .. 2 games & a coverup, lies and lack of investigation!!
people have to stand up for themselves because if left to the refs its only the 2nd perso who gets flagged ..and unitl the video shows up .. its like it never even happened
Yeah, im really worried he will be suspended for a game. Something tells me we are going to be Without Kelce for the 9ers.
i think Roger Goodell has layed down the law on punches to the face ..right ? 2 games (everyone get what im saying?).. im ok with that in this case he is prideful
Eagles games should come with a pre-game warning if you have heart or anxiety issues.
I still havent calmed down
Who has?
Drinking helps.
Drinking has made me want to fight Trent Williams even more
No offense Geagle, but my money is on Williams.
He will murder me… Still can’t help this primal desire to attack him
Drinking makes it worse!
Hopefully they give us more primetime games with that flex scheduling. Im in Florida so the more the merrier for me.
I’m in UK, so the 1 or 4 pm games are best!
I don’t know if the guy can stay as consistent as he’s been, but boy the automatic touchbacks and 50+ yard field goals are nice tools to have in the box for a change.
We lose this game if Henery is kicker.
Yup. The touchbacks helped a ton and 51 yards is nothing for Parkey.
One of these days, the whole team will play well and it will be a thing of beauty. I’m happy we’re 3-0 but can we maybe stop the “cardiac kid” stuff? I’m getting more and more gray hairs.
everyone healthy were’ a SB calibur offense.
Speaking of Kelce, how sick was hit seeing him run down the field on that iffy block in the back. That dude isn’t just nimble, the man can flat out run, sick
as fast as Maclin
Wasn’t iffy at all. The guy turned his back, completely legal block. Refs did a terrible job this game.
Yeah, bad day by the officials
Grossly bad.
Exactly he was in contact before the player turned. It was a completely legal block.
Honestly?!? I don’t understand how anyone could clearly watch Kelce shove him right in the back and somehow convince themselves it was legal.
Of course the guy had his back turned, because he was chasing the ballcarrier down the field!
His hands were under the guys armpit when he made contact, the defender turned to run.
If a defender could just turn away to avoid a block, don’t you think all DL would just stand up and do a 180 after the ball is snapped?
Give Stoutland credit. With that OL changing, shifting on the fly – while they didn’t play great, they played well enough. That is good coaching.
held up in pass pro great. But it’s clear that zone scheme is built on the line. We need mathis back asap. Foles did a great job avoiding pressure.
How on earth having we given up a sack in 2 games?
Something tells me that stat won’t help Nick Foles sleep comfortably tonight. But yeah with all the pressure, none of it has gotten home, so that’s big.
He might be sleeping in the cold tub tonight with the beating he took today.
A cold tub inside a hyperbaric chamber
With a smoothie and a masseuse.
Having a quarterback who unloads the ball quickly and decisively in the face of pressure helps keep the sack count down as much as a good OL does. Today at least, Foles was that.
Love the toughness of this team. Wished we could’ve watched it or listened to it out in the west. It was difficult even following it on the internet. (going to a sports bar wasn’t an option for me today).
Hope we get our injured guys back soon. Agree on the Kelce loss, that’s big. We gotta be able to run the ball. Some teams will have good pass defenses.
Quick question, would it be worthwile to see if we couldn’t trade Miami for Dion Jordan now? Maybe they’d be more willing since he’s been suspended for a few more games. I bet we’d get a great OLB with Jordan playing for Kelly again.
Maybe for a 6th round pick.
Or a 5th, it worked last time. Hue hue hue
No, we won’t be AQUIRING Dion til after this season… But he definitely coming to Philly
Send Foles to a massage parlor after his ice bath and triple his smoothie intake.
How about combine the two and put him in a smoothie bath?
…with a few masseuses. I’m sure his wife won’t mind.
That was my personal favorite best Nick FOles game.. I enjoyed it better than flooding the black hole
..
I don’t recall Maclin ever playing this tough. He wasn’t a Finesse WR today, he was making some gritty catches
…
Only team this season to score 30 in every game
Only team to overcome being down 10 in 3 games
Only eagles team to start 3-0 since Super Bowl year
…
Defense gave up 8 3rd down conversions in first. skins didn’t convert a single 3rd down in the second half
…
Pope Jordan Mathews coming out party.
…
Shady and the run game did NOTHING, but FOles and the WR single handedly almost put up 40. See all those passes we were throwing down field, proving we can hurt you with WRs? That could help backup the Niners defense and give our RBs some room to operate after the Niners see how willing we are to keep throwing down field
I wonder how the 9ers will play us. With the O-line as banged up as it is, and their front 7 still being pretty good, and our pass game showing it can hurt you bad, do they play us a bit more honest?
Peters,Herremans, maybe Kelce…Tobin back should be a boost…
…
Half of the Niners front 7 is out…we will find a way to win..
…
We can’t lose to a team that has a QB that can’t throw
that’s the best case scenario — hopefully that works out.
I think Maclin is coming around. He had another catch (the one where the guy grabbed him by the collar) where he tried to run though some tackles instead of going to the ground. Add in the sideline catch was outstanding. Most encouraging of all, he does seem to get open consistently in man coverage. I think if he and Foles truly get on the same page, it is going to be really sweet.
If Matthews continues on playing this way (making catches in traffic), it is going to be really tough for any team to shut down the Eagles offense unless they kill the QB (which it appears some teams are trying to do). :-S
whole o-line out
Wow what a game, absolutely bat shit crazy. Massive huge brass balls from Foles to win that game, huge performance, should get some idiots off his back for a while! On track for 5200 yards. Hope Kelcy is back soon, is going to be great when we get all 5 of our big ugly’s back up front for the run in.
Defence was poor at times, just could not get a stop in the first quarter, and gave up far to many yards, Kendricks was a huge miss, but we struggled to get our pass rush home and gave up far to many easy completions.
But 3-0 Baby! this time has so much heart and commitment and if we start to play well as all 3 units we are going to smoke some teams!
Nah, he’s chickensh!t according to Buzz Bissinger. LOL
Bissinger is so full of crap. That article completely ignored the fact that some of the greatest QBs of all time (Montana, Aikman, etc.) had the same kind of laid back, unflappable personality that Foles does, and succeeded incredibly well despite it. The rah rah stuff is completely overrated – guys will follow a quarterback who spreads the credit around, is accountable, is tough as nails, and doesn’t fold under pressure, and all four apply to Foles. Just listen to the way guys like Peters and Molk talked about him after the game today – they clearly respect the hell out of him and will fight for him.
Didn’t Polk take it 102 yards on the kick return? Shame he hasn’t had more reps, because we could of done with a big back in there at times today. Equal opportunities offence.
Nick Balboa? Rocky Foles? Nicktalion Stallion?
The more you hit him, the stronger he gets.
Kinda like the Hulk except the Hulk gets stronger the angrier he gets.
Gotta give Washington credit, they really bring it whenever they play Philly, these past three times we’ve played my heart has been about to explode in the 4th quarter.
Gotta wonder what the future has in store for RG III, another guy that has all the gifts to be special but just can’t stay on the field long enough to naturally ascend to become that player. Cousins looks solid, missed a few throws but he’s come up big for Washington when they need him. He looked pretty meh when his coaching staff was defunct, but while there is still a season to play for now, and back in 2012 when he kept the playoff hopes alive he’s been solid.
Think they are where we were last year.
wow, didn’t think of that, but yeah I see it now that you mention it.
Last week I asked if we were going to remember that week as the one where Washington accidentally found their franchise QB.
Hopefully the draft picks and the fact that they are both young guys muddies the water enough so that they screw it up.
Ideally, Cousins plays well enough to create a problem when RGIII returns, then the pressure gets to whomever is on the field and they go into the offseason without any answers.
Watching Foles walk out of the presser his left arm wasn’t swinging like his right….
Thank god he throws right handed. In all seriousness, as long as the left shoulder isn’t completely jacked, they can probably brace it up a little bit and he should be fine.
Think Nick’s TD to Jordan Matthews may have been the best pass of his career. Big time throw.
Next week is gonna be tough.
What’s up with Cary? Chill bruh. 3-0.
Those Williams comments are weird after what Cole and Ryans said last year about the training and tempo
they aren’t trying to catch djax…made him look bad
That was an excellent throw. Perfect timing and anticipation and pinpoint accuracy. If Foles makes that throw consistently, there’s no question he’s a franchise QB.
phenomenal win…..but we have absolutely NO pash rush…….and that’s gonna handicap us when we face elite QB’s . the scary thing is that there seems to be no answers on this team as it stands presently.
also why is nolan not starting over fletcher already?
it’s just painful to watch him out there. his go to move seems to be just grab, grab and grab some more!….definitely have to address pass rush and cover corner next offseason
Go iggles!!!
You mean “elite QB’s” like Andrew Luck?
He’s been labeled elite by the media, but his stats are from it. Maybe eventually, I guess.
clear from last 2 weeks media has all the power.
Fletcher had more tackles than anyone else and doesn’t take plays off, like his counterpart. He also doesn’t go running to the press when he’s tired.
Nick’s back — but no defense.
they shit the bed when we were up by 10, then came up pretty big on the 4 and out. The 4th down was an errant throw, but I love how stout they were in those first three downs. The rest of the game? yeah not very good. Does Washington quietly have a good offense?
They have a decent line, Morris is good, Garcon is a good possession guy, Jackson is who he is. Their TE is very good too but injured.
I thought Gruden called a good game too.
Yeah, basically when the QB plays well, that offense is quite formidable. Suddenly the Redskins and Cowboys have good O-line and I REALLY don’t like it, especially with ours so beat up.
That team could be scary if they never traded for RG3… They could have drafted Keachly in round 1, Cousins in round two… They could have drafted OT Greg Robinson this year to pair with Trent Williams. And they could have drafted like Chamce Warmack or something last year
2013 all over again but this time..we get clutch turnovers!
Just saw on postgame that Cary Williams was complaining that the Eagles don’t have fresh legs during the games due to being over practiced? Don’t quote me exactly, but apparently he runs them hard, Brian Westbrook said he personally has talked to some players who agree with that sentiment. Basically too fast too much too tired on sunday. We’ll see what comes of that.
he looked pissed when djax ate him for lunch
Yeah, I wonder if he’s trying to come up with excuses for getting beaten a few times…
Probably a lot to do about nothing, just saw it on post game and thought it was worth noting.
I was giving CK the evil eye after that TD 100+ and TD isn’t bad. It’s clear our guys couldn’t cover him 1 on 1.
On the replay of the long screen by Helu near the end, Cary was coasting, then kicked it into gear when he saw Helu wasn’t going to be tackled.
Maybe Chip and Carroll should let Williams rest his legs for a week.
That was as much on Allen was it was on Williams if not more so. Allen was supposed to be playing deep and in the center of the field.
Nate had a deep crosser from the other side he had to account for as well. If He goes deep with djax, the other play was open and was going to be a huge gain as well. It was just a well drawn up play by WAS.
Westbrook is taking right now, he’s curious as to why says this to a media guy as opposed to talking to Chip about it personally.
Opposite of what guys like Cole and Ryans said last year. Just sound like Williams needs to stfu and don’t come with excuses for the defenses bad play
Ray Didinger went along the lines of saying, Carey being Carey, he speaks his mind ala the Pats are cheaters, stuff like that. Maybe nothing comes of it, but if it’s true, Westbrook personally knows some of these guys, I wouldn’t want these guys to be overworked if it is going to hurt gameday.
I’m worried about the part where Cary says it’s not just him, only he has the guts to say it… It might not be Cary being Cary! which Is prob worse
Yep, according to Westbrook, who knows players, he has heard other players talk about it, so Cary is bringing to the front. Probably a better idea to do it with coach behind closed doors though?
Exactly… Hey if it’s true, and Chip pulls back in practice and we do have fresher legs, we will be better because of it,,,but yeah, I prefer not making these comments to media
Media is last resort. Chip will listen now. He respects the hell out of Cary.
Maybe not any more.
unless CK not trying to hear that. I don’t think we hear it either if CW doesn’t get beat for that TD.
Apparently this has been an ongoing thing, but we’ll see, hopefully it’s a lot of nothing. But, if Cary’s right, that concerns me going forward, especially if he has teammates quietly agreeing with him.
There’s some truth here. Chip will listen after he sees the game tape. I think the DB’s need someone to speak up for them. Tip of the hat to Sconces.
The Eagles have earned a reputation as a team that wears down and outlasts opponents in the fourth quarter. I don’t think the defense is overworked so much as just not very talented.
I was under that impression, that’s what is so weird about what Cary is saying now.
It isn’t what he said, it’s where he said it. To a roomful of reporters, instead of the coach’s room or training room.
Yeah, is he really going to pretend they are tired out there? Does he see what the opposing defenses look like at the end of the game every week? This defenders have the best conditioning they’ve had in their lives.
He’s just pissed because little DJax broke his tackle.
Makes you wonder why the Colts didn’t challenge him a few more times deep last week especially with Hicks or Hilton.
Ugh, can already feel it happening. Big win and it’s gonna turn into a Carygate week.
And he played *better* than Fletcher.
2014-year of the heart attack
Fixed:
2014-year of the heart attacks
Jason Peters: Heart of the year, attacks
nah, he just thought he saw a jelly doughnut in that guy’s facemask….
You belittle a matter of honor for humor. A lineman takes this stuff very seriously. It’s note a joke.
ok?
A lineman will kill to protect his QB. It is a matter of honor and respect.
That’s it, double digit wins from here on out. No worries.
we’d have to score 50 a game to do that!
You mean like that nice, relaxing Jaguars game?
Destiny isn’t just a stripper in north philly
HEY YOU SHUT YOUR MOUTH, ANDERS MOM IS A SAINT!
Seeing Jason peters go after the entire skins defense may be my favorite eagle moment ever..
It endeared him to my heart. Loved that guy for being so dominant for us, this is the first time I really got to know that man. That was awesome, sure Chip doesn’t like our dudes losing their heads, but that was awesome.
I gotta think even Chip’s gotta be happy about this.
With Chip it is all about the team. I’m sure he thanked Peters for standing up for Foles. It is a lineman’s “duty” to protect his QB at all times. A warrior’s creed so to speak. Chip respects that more than we will ever understand. He loves the military for this ethos…
Big Balls Foles impressed the hell out of me. And I would kick the Sh*t out of anybody trying to hurt him. You see I was a lineman too – it’s in our blood.
Do you think it was a fit of rage, or do you think he knew what he was doing?
I think the dude saw the cheap shot and saw red. Chip hates actions that gain the team nothing and cost the team greatly. That stuff is pounded into everybodies head. I’m going with pure instinct there.
Herremans said he decided to stay out of the way!
it’s def up there in the pantheon of “after the whistle has blown calls”, a couple slots ahead of akers trying to fight brandon jacobs. in all seriousness that could be a key moment for this team that brings them together. sure got me pumped the fuck up
The best way to a Philadelphia fan’s heart, being gutsy like Peters was today.
djax doesn’t step up like that to defend his teammates
he did some blocking today.
OMG. Forgot to record game! They still have game of the week on NFL network? Sure this one will make it. If not anyone got a link?
for sure dude, it’ll def be in the top 5 games of the week
NFL Game Rewind is $40 for the season. You can watch every game the day after it happens. And they offer “condensed” versions, so you can watch an entire game in about 30 minutes.
ty, ty, thank you!
not to mention the coache’s film on Wednesday~ish. Very cool, especially if you want to talk about the secondary and have a leg to stand on. Not to mention if you live out of the area.
Just looking at the upcoming week. Didn’t realize Snyders host Giants on Thursday. One of them goes to 1-3. ‘Girls host Saints.
Good week for us to have one of our toughest games, 49ers on the road.
I was so happy to see the Rams taking it to the Cowboys….but so sad they blew it in a big way…thank god we won, would have ruined my week.
Ok, I don’t wanna say I called Nick’s performance but, I called Nick’s performance today! Also said Matthews would get his first td today but I didn’t know he was gonna get 2!!!!!!1
Well get it f’n right next time. We’re counting on it.
That was a great game. Really exciting to be 3-0.
Is it just me or is there anyone else who can’t focus on any other games now after a eagles game like this.
i know ….think I’m watching a re-run of the superbowl.
I can’t remember the lack of pass rush being this bad last year as compared to this year. Cousins had all day on every down to throw. I was really worried watching this one!
Think it was you that predicted the Matthews 1st NFL TD nice call
Thanks for remembering!
Mitchell great game!!
I would like to dedicate this game to my fans!
I think not having Kendricks hurt. Davis seemed to be using him as a mobile pass rusher a lot of the time. Also the Eagles did have to give Morris some respect. I thought Cox was disruptive, but I agree need to improve the pass rush a bit. At the same time in the first half our secondary except maybe jenkins was terrible. Can we start Caroll and boykin already?
In defense of the secondary, when you give a qb that kind of time the results usually aren’t good but you are right, our cb’s probably could use an upgrade. At least one of them. If you put a decent pash rusher and an upgraded cb on the defense, I think it would be MUCH better.
That’s a hilarious tweet!
PFT is saying no suspensions will be levied for the fight, just fines. They should give all the fine money to Foles.
Parkey.
Mcnabb thinks foles should cover peters finepay peters fine…..
great win, great moment by peters and mcnabb just can’t stay out of it.
Jealousy maybe?
McNabb, better QB than mathematician. Peters makes like 10x what Foles makes. (as a cap figure at least)
Guess Donovan forgot that Foles is still on a rookie contract and Peters makes $10M.
whoa whoa whoa. Mcnabb thinks?
They made it clear you can’t do that after the New Orleans pay for hit scandal.
Darn I wish San Fran would’ve won today, now we go into a desperate team’s stadium like Monday night. Oh well, did it before.
Months ago, and now, I was/am absolutely thrilled we play SF and Seattle this year. We need those measuring sticks. Wish we were healthy heading West, but F it. Let’s see where we really are.
I was thinking the same thing, but watching a lot of the SF game -maybe they’re just not that good.
Having the Eagles and this Chip Kelly offense in the Super Bowl would be a wet dream for the NFL
for me too
I blew up with the cheap shot on Foles. Was everyone else calm cool and collected?
It was a live play, lineman said he could’ve made a tackle, but still….Cheap.
he seemed to come from the side, not his front. I don’t know the rules well, but in a QB centered league, if that were Tom Brady….it “seems” illegal to me. Not sure if it is, but looked bad to me on the reply (you can see it on BGN).
Since Baker was not only flagged for unnecessary roughness but also ejected, and seems likely to be heavily fined as well, I’d say that yes, that hit was illegal.
it was obviously a cheap shot he wasn’t even in the play. There’s no reason to block him like that except to hurt him.
It was dirty and incredibly illegal. SINCE when he made contact the guy was what? 5-10 yards away and hitting the ground?
Nope.
Peyton had a man wide open.
My cousin has very good seats (45-yard line) and he said he saw & heard a very audible Maclin after the game going up and down the sideline several times after everybody else had gone into the stadium.
Clearly was fired about his performance too. Most physical game I thought Cooper played in a long, long time too. Very physical today and was in the middle of the scrum on the sideline.
Statement game by the WRs as much as it was by the QB today for the Eagles.
this is what I was expecting to see in February. Good game in Seattle.
OT
Wow!! I was thinking the same thing. Just saw the two point conversion, amazing.
See how the Eagles weren’t conservative, they passed on 2nd down to make sure they get the 1st down and wind the clock. Chip is a great coach.
That was brilliant!
And the challenges were spot-on.
Exactly, this is something we are not used to by an Eagles coached team.
thank Christ we fixed that. The challenges, or lack of them, were abysmal all last year.
Indeed. Having a coach who knows how to manage the clock and use his challenge flag correctly is such a nice change. It went under the radar but Gruden completely wasted a time out before the Redskins’ final offensive play that could’ve cost them another chance at the ball – God bless Andy, but I’m thankful we no longer have to put up with those kinds of game management misadventures.
i keep humming this song in my head, Chicken parm it taste so good. It’s driving me crazy.
My take on the Peters incident:
Every head coach I’ve ever had has always said: Walk away in that situation, don’t get flagged or tossed, you have to be smart about it.
Two minutes later every offensive line coach I’ve ever had has said: “Fuck that, you go maul anybody who cheap shots your QB”
did you think the hit was legal? Seems to come at him from the side not the front. I don’t know the rules, but looks highly dangerous.
Yes but not against a QB in this league. You can’t even block a kicker like that.
Dirty hit, pretty sure the runner was down when he even made contact. It’s also not as if Foles was running towards the play he was just kind of walking to the sideline or standing there. 20 years ago that’s the kind of hit that gets your fingers broken the next time you end up in a pile.
I wouldnt be surprised to see him get suspended a game if not a pretty hefty fine is coming his way. Hope it was worth it to lose the game.
It was super dirty, it was after the play was over, a good 15 yards away from the ball, it was a QB, and he was making no attempt to chase down the ballcarrier.
The Falcons spent their whole offseason trying to get “tougher”. If your line doesn’t do anything it says something psychologically about your team. Feel like you have to be able to match the intensity. Cant all be “finesse”
If Herremans thought Peters was steamed enough to “kill” him. Jason might not have been actually thinking! ;~)
Skins – glass half empty, half full
– Lost a really tough road game but Cousins played really well & this offense clicked.
– Tough game on a short week and they are fighting for their season the next 3 weeks:
vs Giants
vs Seahawks
@ Cards
If they lose to the Giants, easy to see them going 1-5 and their season effectively being over.
the thing is i’d say if the skins stuck with Cousins. Maybe gave him a year of play time to develop built up their line and really committed to this they might be an up and coming team i’d be worried about. However being the Redskins they will obviously, when given two choices, do the thing that will end up hurting them the most.
So, if Denver pulls this out, the NFC West looks like this:
Arizona 3-0
Saint Louis 1-2
San Fran 1-2
Seattle 1-2
really hoping Denver can win this game. Could really help the Eagles down the line.
San Fran loses and GB only scored 7pts against the Lions?
so far I’d say GB is not good. Detroit with a coach upgrade and the Bears are better. I like to think that’s good for us (playoffs), b/c a good team with Rodgers is likely a tougher game for us than just a good team (like Bears or Lions).
I thought GB defense would be the liability, never imagine I’d see them only score 7 points..
…
San Fran lost to Drew Stanton and a banged up cardinal defense,
I’m glad to see any NCF contender lose. Sorry Seattle won. But if SF and GB aren’t quite as good as we thought (not saying they are, but could be), that is good. Saints too.
Classic saints, tough as hell at home, beatable on the road
They should just go all the way with the rule change in OT. Both teams get the ball no matter what happens.
darn it
what’s up with the Pats? I didn’t see it, but how do you barely beat the Raiders at home in your first home game.
The O looks bad, but isn’t it the same offense from last year (AFC championship game), plus Gronk is kinda back.
So, is Arizona in the discussion of best team in the NFC now?
Drew Stanton? Banged up defense?
Yet still beat SF and stand at 3-0.
I think San Fran is over rated this year… Plus division teams can always beat each other…
…
I think the Arizona team we beat last year was prob better than this years team.. I like the rookie WR tho, better than over rated Floyd…mdefense is all injured. Maybe their run game is a lil better, but nothing scary..
I don’t know about you, but I expect to beat Drew Stanton
Cant underrate how close division games will be — except for that Colts Jags game.
They’re really good. Obvious to anyone that actually watches games and doesn’t just read tweets.
Arians can coach.
No. Drew Stanton is horrible, and Carson Palmer only average. Next question.
When Kelce went out, the OL really went flat. More so than when, well, all the other guys got hurt, there was a definite break between what they looked like with Kelce and without.
Why?
Is Kelce just that good? If so, it is time he receives a little more recognition from the national media.
Is it just a cumulative thing, and three backups was too many?
Is the mental aspect, making the blocking calls?
Is it just my imagination?
I think it’s real. He is a freak athlete, but what they really lose his brain. He’s almost another QB out there calling the protection. He’s a real leader.
We started struggling pretty bad after Kelce went out against Baltimore in ’12.
Think backup center is like one of the toughest positions to play. Molk won’t be Kelce, but I think he can survive and not completely break down
I’d think it is especially hard in Chips fast paced O.
I thought the same thing about the running game without Mathis. Shady rushed 20 times for 12 yds. Which tells you probably everything you even need to know.
Kelce is the CENTER. Most important person on the OLine. Calls plays for the line, gives the ball to the QB, blocks nose tackles and interior linemen, runs 30 yards downfield.
Honestly thought it was a Jekyll and Hyde game for Foles… Totally missed Maclin for a big TD, missed Celek and Ertz a few times, etc. His toughness is great, but he’s gotta get more accurate like he was last year. He’s still in a funk and it’s obvious. Hopefully having a healthy line by week 10 can straighten him out.
Be happy he’s throwing routine passes properly.
@disqus_LsY3nrCj4V:disqus, did we watch the same game?
@shah8:disqus that’s nice for a Kirk Cousins, but a franchise guy has gotta be more consistent on the deep balls.
I never expected better. Look, undertalent tends to make QBs erratic in the way Foles, Fitzpatrick, Cousins, etc. So long as we’re going to have the system help Foles out, then I have ever right to demand that basic screens be done right, your basic outs being thrown right, etc. This game he made a throw to the outside some ways down without too much air. Cooper still had to jump, but, it was mostly right.
Throw to Maclin on the sidelines right before he got killed was impressive as well.
huh, missed that one. Missed a lot of game action due to horrible feed.
all of our starting OL is out. Defense is a siv — that’s my biggest takeaway from the game. But Foles played really well to my eye. made a lot of passes he was missing. JMatt decided to catch balls.
Yeah, mostly Chicago game level.
You know who’s in a lot more trouble than Foles? Tannehill and Locker.
Locker is terrible.
Enough physical talent, not enough QB talent.
Quit trolling.
I explain why I feel the way I do. At this point, you know why I think the way I do.
Yes, because you’re a troll.
we all know why you feel the way you do. It’s transparent. Marcus.
Wtf r u talking about man
Nick is getting there. Has played better each week.
TD to Matthews was as good of a throw as he has made in his career. Big step for him.
makes those kinds of TD throws. Throws a lot of of thread the needle to the end zone TD throws. If you let Foles sit 3-4-6 seconds, he will do that.
No doubt! He delivered a nice ball to Mac on the sideline too while getting pummeled. I’m not hating on Nick, and I think he’ll be fine by mid season, but there were a few too many “wtf” moment considering the last two weeks. Haven’t lose faith in him though.
I can’t fault nick at all this week he played an AMAZING game. He’s got no O-line, no running game and he threw dimes to win a shootout. I was on him the last two weeks, but he straight went beast mode this game.
OL is fucked. Defense needs to figure something out.
Every QB misses a few throws in a game, even the greats. Foles didn’t play his best game, but he was still pretty damn good (67% completion pct., 325 yards, 3 TDs) despite getting hammered all game long. I don’t know how much better he could’ve been given the averse circumstances he was under.
Can’t you even savor a win for 24 hours?
Post-game quote of the day:
Todd Herremans: “I thought about stepping in the way, but I just would have gotten murdered.”
Speaking of seeing Peters going towards Baker.
Edit: you know what, just go read the article, absolute gold http://www.phillymag.com/birds247/2014/09/21/jason-peters-answers-call/#more-2844852
Washington used to be on the low end of my most hated in the NFC. They are now right beside Dallas!
My son and I were saying the same thing. This game has taken our hatred of Wash to a whole new level.
Glad you agree. My anger is on a new level.
It will be great when we beat them again on December 20.
Speaking of classy moves: Kudos to Nick Foles fetching Jordan Matthew’s first TD catch in the NFL for him. I thought that was cool. This team really looks out for each other, definitely liking that.
Quick little tip. We saw that Foles was rolling to his *left* several times, and made a couple a passes as he did so. I’m pretty sure this is a Musgrave thing, as this was something he repeatedly had Christian Ponder do, and Ponder never could manage to throw properly going to his left…
You better be careful. You are coming dangerously close to being complimentary of Foles.
Thought the same thing. Earlier today he said Foles looked like an nfl qb.
Gasp!!
Wasn’t intentional.
Hey everyone, has anyone heard any updates regarding Jason Kelce’s Injury? Could you please reply if you heard anything. Thanks.
Was just about to post the same question. Have not heard anything yet. We desperatly need him next week. Kendricks also.
Hunh, Brian Hartline is also complaining that Miami practices too hard during the week… Interesting…
defense played like complete butt, not surprising when you gotta play against that offense all week then play 40 minutes during games.
Knock it off. You know as well as the rest of us that publicly dissing your coaches and teammates is stupid.
Who’s Brian Hartline?
WR for the Dolphins who plucked Bill Lazor from us to be their OC and are implementing some of Kelly’s ideas.
Late to the party… Missed watching the game with my igglesblitz brethren. Just caught up. Great win! This team has some real character that has been lacking in the latter years of Reid’s reign.
And the character that was with Reid is really shining now!
That cheap shot on Foles is still burning me up. I hope karma catches up with that dirty bastard soon.
i’m not surprised. they make the playoffs if foles is out.
I don’t know about that, but I do know they made the blacklist.
This is what the idiot had to say: http://www.phillymag.com/birds247/2014/09/21/baker-foles-hit/
I have a lot of things I’d like to say, however the punches would not find his face.
The play was virtually over. Claiming he didn’t know Foles was the qb has got to be a boldfaced lie.
Those refs today were so bad btw. The block in the back by Kelce was questionable. They ALMOST missed that o so obvious facemask on Sproles. They called unsportsmanlike conduct on Nate Allen after Desean struck first. How rare is it that a coach not only uses but wins both challenges? I think I have seen it maybe twice. I think they did the right thing during the fight though.
Chip’s replay specialist is paying dividends.
I believe they did miss the face mask penalty. It took them forever to throw the flag and didn’t it end up as a horsecollar call?
you are correct.
The Kelce call was 100% legit.
I hate to say it, but you’re right. It was certainly 100% stupid, though, an unnecessary block.
It was definitely stupid and not worth it but it was pretty ticky tack, if the guy wouldn’t have fallen I bet its not called.
Interested to see snap counts. Curry was in a lot, and Graham was in almost as much as Cole it felt like.
Where can you find the snap count stats? Considering how weak was the pass rush, I wanted to see a ton of Curry.
so these carey williams quotes; harmless, disrespectful, what? i’m not sure what to make of these?
http://deadspin.com/cary-williams-is-not-happy-about-how-much-the-eagles-ar-1637458887
He loves to complain. He got burned by DeSean, big deal. He’s a whiny bitch, in my opinion. I don’t like the dude.
I like it. Either Chip will listen or reject him. Chip likes players that step up and express, like Cary did during the Detroit game. Eagles won!
D gets roasted for 500yds to a backup QB. D plays against that offense every day then one game days plays 35-40minutes. Offense plays 20 minutes and gets 3-5 minutes rest per series. D gets 1-3 minutes rest per series.
It’s not surprising for me to hear this, though all of the monitoring they do you wouldn’t think it’s a problem. cary will speak his mind, there’s no judgement i think it’s just his opinion.
2 weeks no sacks? maybe the front 7 is feeling something too. The D got straight carved up.
I’ve got a big problem with his timing and his choice of platform. After a huge, gut-check victory, where many of his teammates went down hurt and his qb got beaten up all afternoon, Carey should have kept his mouth shut about his tired legs. The only thing he should have been talking about is his team winning and being 3-0.
If the man has a problem with his team’s practice routine, he should take it to the other guys in the lockeroom or to the coach.
Its a childish and ill timed excuse for as to why he was getting burnt all day. He simply cannot accept the fact that he was never that good and now that he is older he has regressed. He is the type of person that it is never his fault. Priority #1 in the offseason is CB help. Carroll will probably be a starter but there will also be a different face opposite of him. Or maybe Boykin goes to the outside with Carroll in the slot.
I would argue priority number 1 is the pass rush.
Yes, you are correct. Priority 1a passrush, priority 1b CB, priority 2 Oline.
It’s probably too early, but Foles may well be the kind of qb that Philly loves. The dude got killed today and he never complained, continued to stay in the pocket, and then pulled out the win.
And here’s a fun fact, Nick makes about the same salary as Casey Matthews.
yeah for now. but agree he ha a hell of a game today. Eagles playing with fire with the o-line. especially playing 49ers next week.
I was really hoping this defense would sign Byrd because they desperately needed someone in the secondary who could wrack up INTs/turnovers.
Well, Byrd has a single FF and Jenkins had his 2nd INT already which matches his career-high
Still would wager that Byrd will end up with more forced turnovers but if Jenkins can end up with 4-5 INTs and a few FF (2-3) it will go a long way to helping this mediocre defense this year.
If Byrd can stay on the field. I’m glad we got the cheaper Jenkins. We just need to hit on some draft picks for our secondary. We’ll have to see how Watkins turns out and if Carrol will be a good addition.
We also learned that the slushies are not magical
Feel like these Eagles bloggers are sweeping the fact that Shady looks like crap under the rug. Blame backup blockers all you want, but Sproles found a big hole before he fumbled and was benched. Shady has looked bad all year. At some point we’ll have to stop pretending they’re blocking for Sproles, but not for Lesean.
Which eagle is in the new video titled “We’re from Philadelphia and We Fight” on Philadelphiaeagles.com at the 0:44 mark. Is that Burton?
