The Eagles came back from 20-6 to win 30-27. Forget analysis right now, just enjoy the W.

And let’s go ahead and let Darren Sproles be King of Pennsylvania. Or America.

All hail Sproles!!!

Another gritty win. Chip Kelly’s Eagles getting it done!

  8. 8 A_T_G said at 11:38 PM on September 15th, 2014:

Wow, that was fun. I think I spent time on every piece of furniture in the room.

My favorite inconsequential moment: near the end of the half, Mathews caught a pass near the sideline, knew he had to get out of bounds, but drilled the defensive back waiting for him to step out, then stepped out.

  9. 9 mtn_green said at 11:58 PM on September 15th, 2014:

The clock ran on that one.
    Even tho he stepped out.

  10. 10 Mitchell said at 11:39 PM on September 15th, 2014:

Lol, now Ray Lewis and Trent Dilfer are arguing the Colts should have won because of the 2calls.

  11. 11 RogerPodacter said at 11:40 PM on September 15th, 2014:

hahaha i wish i had a gif of the same thing called on Cox last week. i had to see this one a few times to see it *wasnt* truly a horsecollar.

i fucking hate it too, but i understand that the refs are going to err on the side of player safety so theyre going to call that.

  12. 12 P_P_K said at 11:49 PM on September 15th, 2014:

I was thinking the same thing about the call last week.

  13. 13 daveH said at 1:38 PM on September 16th, 2014:

but Sproles was pulled down on the 5 two plays later on a real horsecollar that wasn’t called !!

  14. 14 RobNE said at 11:46 PM on September 15th, 2014:

We would have won without the horse collar.

  15. 15 Scott J said at 12:06 AM on September 16th, 2014:

I’m sure theres a lot of penalties never called that aren’t shown on TV. Sour grapes!

  16. 16 BlindChow said at 12:20 AM on September 16th, 2014:

Yeah, we had some bad penalties last week. They only focus on them when it affects the losing team.

Seattle had a touchdown yesterday that should’ve been called back because the receiver went out of bounds, but the play was never reviewed. Luckily they lost, so no one is talking about it now.

Next week no one will even remember the questionable calls, and we’ll still be 2-0.

  17. 17 RogerPodacter said at 12:35 AM on September 16th, 2014:

    bruce arians still remembers…

  18. 18 James Adair said at 1:05 AM on September 16th, 2014:

And he is the consummate douche bag. You could fill a mountain of binders with bad calls that the Eagles have had called against them and still have not recorded them all (Including all the holding the Colts O-line did tonight. Nobody cares.

  19. 19 daveH said at 1:42 PM on September 16th, 2014:

Ray Lewis is gonna SAVE US FROM 50 YEARS OF BAD OFFICIATING !!
    ..
we should get a Casey Matthews waiver from the NFL…that if he is on the field its like being man down!

  20. 20 xeynon said at 11:40 PM on September 15th, 2014:

Great comeback. This offense has had some hiccups but it’s clearly just as explosive as last year’s even without Jackson and with Foles being merely above average rather than otherworldly.

  29. 29 Dragon_Eagle said at 11:44 PM on September 15th, 2014:

Not getting that here. What’s he saying?

  30. 30 Stanimal said at 11:44 PM on September 15th, 2014:

He took responsibility for the pick wouldn’t blame it on the refs. It was more the way he carried himself.

  31. 31 Dragon_Eagle said at 11:47 PM on September 15th, 2014:

Glad we got the win, but also glad we will only see him once every 4 years. He’s going to be a top 2-3 QB once the Brady/Manning/Brees crowd retires. May be there already.

  32. 32 Stanimal said at 11:48 PM on September 15th, 2014:

I can’t believe there was a time I wanted the Colts to take RG3 so we wouldn’t have to play him twice a year.

  33. 33 BlindChow said at 12:02 AM on September 16th, 2014:

Uh, no he’s not there yet. He’s been very uneven so far in his career. The hype machine is out of control on him. He may get there eventually, but a huge percentage of his comebacks were caused by his tendency to turn the ball over.

He wasn’t impressive in this game. Most of their offensive success came from their RB’s, and the only time their drives stalled was when they put it in Luck’s hands. He had wide open receivers on his completions, but did have some good throws under pressure.

  34. 34 laeagle said at 12:26 AM on September 16th, 2014:

No, I heartily disagree. With a makeshift O-line, he consistently kept his team in it with clutch plays on third down, in the face of pressure (the few times we offered it). Guy played well, and I was commenting on that with friends during the game. He also had the bad plays, which I’m happy about, and which are inexcusable if you’re a Colts fan, but he was very impressive in this game.

Give credit to the Colts, they came in with an good and unexpected game plan.

  35. 35 RogerPodacter said at 11:45 PM on September 15th, 2014:

i didn’t hear the question, but i’m pretty sure they asked him something like “what are your thoughts on the non-penalty on the interception”

his response was “it doesn’t matter what i think. at the end of the day its an interception and thats what matters.”

  36. 36 TommyLawlor said at 12:16 AM on September 16th, 2014:

Terrific player and seems like an even better person. Indy is lucky to have him.

  37. 37 P_P_K said at 12:21 AM on September 16th, 2014:

Luck is a class act. But, at least tonight, our guy is the winning qb.

  38. 38 Andy124 said at 8:51 AM on September 16th, 2014:

Almost as lucky as we are to have Foles.

  39. 39 RogerPodacter said at 11:44 PM on September 15th, 2014:

i count 5 plays of 20+ yards for those keeping track…
might have missed some. had quite a few 19 yard plays.
(12:35) (No Huddle, Shotgun) 9-N.Foles pass deep right to 86-Z.Ertz pushed ob at IND 29 for 27 yards (29-M.Adams).

  40. 40 stephenstempo said at 1:04 AM on September 16th, 2014:

But there’s no way we can get that many big plays without someone who “stretches” the field. It is literally impossible, sports radio told me. Those big plays just won’t be there. Nope. You must be making this up.

  41. 41 A_T_G said at 11:44 PM on September 15th, 2014:

On the one hand, I respect Luck for not taking the bait in the post game interview and not using the noncall as an excuse for the interception.

On the other hand, wow, worst beard ever.

  50. 50 laeagle said at 12:27 AM on September 16th, 2014:

Umm, no. Steve Young was making a point to him about how hard it is to account for anything with the speed of the Kelly no-huddle, and Lewis’s response was, “how can you not account for them?” Umm, Ray, for exactly the reason Steve was just explaining to you, but you didn’t hear because you were too excited about making your own point.

  51. 51 Stormbringer said at 11:47 PM on September 15th, 2014:

Indy’s offense seemed to be like bleeding from 1000 cuts. Took all kinds of time but kept going down the field. Really glad they didn’t do that at the end.

I was wrong about Sproles. I wondered why the Saints let him go. That guy is unbelievable in the open field.

  52. 52 GvilleEagleFan said at 2:13 AM on September 16th, 2014:

With how clutch Jenkins was with that INT and how terrible their D has looked so far, I think it’s fair to say the Saints’ FO might not be doing such a great job. They have Brees, and they beat us in the playoffs, so everyone wants to assume they’re a better overall organization, but I’d take Roseman over Loomis any day.

  53. 53 ChaosOnion said at 11:50 PM on September 15th, 2014:

Chip is turning the game into a marathon of sprints. I watched some Australian Rules football this summer and the pace is very reminiscent of that game.

  54. 54 anon said at 11:52 PM on September 15th, 2014:

Um that’s b/c Foles was terrible in the pocket today. Probably got 200 yds on screen plays but missed most of the NFL quality throws he was asked to make.

Glad Mac finally got a chance. Could you imagine this offense with a guy like Luck??

  55. 55 Mitchell said at 11:53 PM on September 15th, 2014:

Because the recievers could not catch! did you see the gorgeous td pass he threw to Cooper? the pass that Mac didn’t even turn and fight for? The Screen pass that Mac hesitated and didn’t catch it?

  56. 56 anon said at 11:53 PM on September 15th, 2014:

Combination of drops and bad balls.

  57. 57 A_T_G said at 11:54 PM on September 15th, 2014:

There were too many of each.

  58. 58 BC1968 said at 11:56 PM on September 15th, 2014:

Exactly, it was a combo of bad for qb and receivers.

  59. 59 P_P_K said at 11:56 PM on September 15th, 2014:

    Agree.

  60. 60 Ark87 said at 11:54 PM on September 15th, 2014:

lots of dropped balls, not ideal throws, but this is the NFL, hits your hands, you gotta catch it. Even Bradly Fletcher got in on the act…looks like he was playing volley ball out there.

can’t be circus catches every time.

  62. 62 Ark87 said at 11:56 PM on September 15th, 2014:

Some of them were just getting broken up by contact, Jordan Matthews had 2, Cooper had 1, and a lot of missed opportunity. Can’t get em all, but you got to get some.

  63. 63 Roderick Silva said at 12:16 AM on September 16th, 2014:

He under threw 2 to Maclin. One behind a wide open Ertz. The Celek one.

We have some stuff to fix but overall great win

  64. 64 P_P_K said at 12:29 AM on September 16th, 2014:

The one that missed Ertz was the worst.

  65. 65 RogerPodacter said at 12:33 AM on September 16th, 2014:

which Celek one are you talking about? the end zone grab that Gruden said was “too firm”? i thought that was a perfect pass.

  66. 66 Roderick Silva said at 12:38 AM on September 16th, 2014:

Unfortunatley (I think) I watched it on ESPN Desportes. I didn’t hear Gruden. Maybe that is a good thing? Yeah it looked like it twisted him up and had no touch. I’ll have to look at it on Rewind.

Gruden loves to talk good about everybody. Always looking for positives in everyone’s game.

  67. 67 RogerPodacter said at 12:42 AM on September 16th, 2014:

  70. 70 Roderick Silva said at 12:44 AM on September 16th, 2014:

  71. 71 ztom6 said at 1:03 AM on September 16th, 2014:

Are we really putting that Ertz drop on Foles? Really?

  72. 72 Roderick Silva said at 1:05 AM on September 16th, 2014:

He was running a crossing route it was clearly behind him. It twisted him up. I’m not saying lay it in there perfectly in stride but bro…behind him. He almost broke his back trying to get hands on it.

Did you see him leap up and snatch that last one that Foles threw about 3 feet too high? The boy can catch footballs.

  73. 73 ztom6 said at 1:16 AM on September 16th, 2014:

That’s not what I saw. I would call that a fairly easy catch for any NFL receiver, plus by “turning him around” he put him in good position to get extra yards. Maybe I need to watch it again because it didn’t look to me like Ertz needed to break his back.

  74. 74 Roderick Silva said at 12:15 AM on September 16th, 2014:

I agree on every single one of those BUT there were a bunch of bad passes too.

  75. 75 laeagle said at 12:28 AM on September 16th, 2014:

It was a combination of him being slightly off on some, and receivers not making others. He wasn’t great, I give him a C+. But he wasnt’ terrible, either. People need to learn perspective.

  76. 76 anon said at 12:41 AM on September 16th, 2014:

Listening to his press conference i think he knows he’s fucking up. But he’s trying to stay positive which is great. McCoy is also upset with how he’s playing. Wil be nice once all those guys get it together.

  77. 77 laeagle said at 12:07 PM on September 16th, 2014:

I think the really scary thing is that neither he nor McCoy have really played their best yet and we’re still putting up points. If/when they get it together, it’s going to be frightening for the rest of the league.

  78. 78 Mitchell said at 11:50 PM on September 15th, 2014:

So about Riley Cooper: great stat line tonight! 1 catch for 8 yards! What does that put him on the season? 2 catches for 20 yards?

  103. 103 anon said at 11:58 PM on September 15th, 2014:

Foles and Mac need to go on vacation together. Foles looks bad throwing the ball. The problem is we run so many screens maybe he doesn’t get enough practice passing downfield in practice. Makes you wonder if Djax was making Foles look good.

Honestly, i think by game 6-8 Foles and Mac will be connected and it’ll be over. Just gotta be happy we have the best offensive mind in league — by far. And a defense that can look ugly but generate turnovers.

  104. 104 Roderick Silva said at 12:23 AM on September 16th, 2014:

  108. 108 stephenstempo said at 12:59 AM on September 16th, 2014:

I dunno that fade TD to Cooper would have been a TD both times. one time cooper dropped it and the second time he was literally held. Give Foles those 2 catches and he’s over 400 and 3 td’s.

Honestly it was a combination (Key drops and some missed passes), but I thought Foles looked much more decisive this week (still not as good as last year) and hopefully he builds on that.

You know what you are absolutely right. Hopefully we see the old Coop come back and Jordan Matthews start catching balls thrown his way.

Unfortunately, I missed a bunch of the game. Commentators were saying the Colts had no pass-rush, but the Iggs didn’t get any

sacks and had one less QB hit than the loathsome Colts D. In the previous thread someone mentioned this could’ve just been a credit to Luck getting the ball out. Can anybody add to this? And is Kendricks ok???

Actually, I thought they did alright – doesn’t show up in terms of sacks, but they did hit Luck a few times and definitely forced him to move. Not a dominating performance by any stretch, but not awful. Luck didn’t have worlds of time to pick us apart.

Eagles got 2 turnovers. Not much else good to say about the defense. Colts ran us for like 200yds but luckily they went away from the run when it mattered most.

Darren Sproles is a better back for the system than Shady is. It’s going to be interesting to see how that works.

Foles was a mixed bag. Lots of bad passes but no bad mistakes, few sacks if any. Mac looked terrible dropped a lot of balls.

We play GREAT in the second half of games — and we win games. I couldn’t be happier. Hope Kendricks is ok otherwise it’s going to be tough on D.

  129. 129 EagleEyes said at 12:03 AM on September 16th, 2014:

  132. 132 RogerPodacter said at 12:21 AM on September 16th, 2014:

i’d say the defense was a mixed bag…
    4.7 yards per play.
    4/12 on 3rd down.
    2 FF
    2 turnovers
172 yards passing going against Luck is pretty amazing
    are all pretty good

    all pretty bad…
    3/4 in the red zone
169 rushing yards given up looks awful, but a 4.4 avg makes it a *little* better
    casey matthews playing on defense
giving up too many rushing yards to Trent Richardson, even if they were trying to get the colts to run the ball instead of pass, thats still unacceptable to me! i would have been happier if bradshaw got all 150 yards lol

An ugly win over a likely playoff team is something we couldn’t manage against the Saints in January. There were some BS calls on us in the Red Zone too (Kelce’s non-contact on a hands to the face penalty even got Gruden to say something), but we came back with a 19 yard Sproles TD. Bottom line, bad calls and poor scheming by the opponent are going to happen. I’m just glad we have a coach that can get a below-average day out of his QB and turn it into a win. Doesn’t hurt that our two major offseason additions basically sealed this win for us.

During this play, watch Hilton’s right foot (not good with video yet), TY is trying to cut back to the right, and you can see his right foot slip on the turf. Brandon was playing tight, but, to me, it looks like Hilton was on his way down and tried to draw the penalty.

    30. Jimmie Ward- Currently SF’s nickel corner, has struggled

    34. Demarcus Lawrence- I’ll take Smith all day, everyday

    38. ASJ- Don’t think we were going to take a TE high

    42. Jordan Matthews.

    No.
I liked Deone, but Chip knows him and obviously didn’t. Su’a Filo would have been nice, but had Mathis not got hurt, wouldn’t have played much this year. Lee? Meh. If you don’t like the way the Eagles looked in that win, get excited because we snuck out of Indy with a tough win on a tough schedule at well less than 100%. Let’s see how the rest of the NICE handles Andrew Luck.

People are fucking insane crying about style points..

The Eagles will be one of the best teams in the NFL this year, but what people need to understand is we need to still grow into that team. It wasn’t realistic to expect that team to show up in September, I think we picked up where we left off at the end of last year which is a good sign, but we will need 4 to 8 games to really grow into the powerhouse we are capable of being….of course OL injuries set us back a bit….but this group will grow into one of the top teams this year.. To see them learn to overcome rough time and learn to find a way to win is HUGE for a growing team… It probabky better off for team building that we are forced to overcome some adversity now….it will come in handy down the road much more than if we were just rolling over teams without a care in the world right now…
    ….
Every win should be celebrated. Ugly games happen, but it’s HUGE for a young team to learn to overcome these rough times and still find a way to win when things aren’t going smoothly for us….
    ….
I knew we would will ourselves to a win over Luck!!

  292. 292 GEAGLE said at 7:29 AM on September 16th, 2014:

I had us intercepting luck twice and forcing Trent to Fumble, but it was the other way round last night. 1 INT from Luck, two fumbles from Trent.
    …..
While all the blowhards were killing Howie for his free agent acquisitions, the signing of two of the Saints leaders is looking Brilliant. Malcolm Jenkins and Sproles had a big hand in winning last night…we don’t beat a caliber team like the Colts without playing our best this time last year….. Obviously growing and making progress…to beat a team like that on the road without even playing up to our potential

All the jack offs who talk shit about our big game corner Cary Williams are awfully quiet today. Funny, so many fools say Brad is the better corner, which is just dumb, but when Cary plays a great game, and Brad gives up a bunch of passes, no one says a word smh…. Dumb fan base bias against it’s own players smh

I am one who thought Colts would score over 30. I didn’t think our offense would struggle that much. I expected a passing game from the Colts, not a running game. How can you expect to win if you go away from your strength? The deserved to lose. Than again, it wasn’t like their WR’s were running free all over the place.
    ……..
PLEASE DEAR LORD NEVER LET MATHEWS ON THE FIELD AGAIN. I’ve never seen a player so lost.
    ……..
People, including this site are going to pick on Foles. I’m not saying he had a GREAT day, I’m saying the blame is across the board. Ertz/Celek/JM/Cooper — All dropped catchable balls. Other times, Foles missed em. The good news is — it’s all correctable. I was glad to see Foles run once or twice to keep the D honest.
    ………
Was that a 3rd and 15 and Sproles running for a 1st down?
    ………
For the Foles haters — he again — did something no other QB has done. He wasn’t perfect in doing it — but he did do it.

Interesting that the Colts felt the need to try and trick us… They abandoned what they do, didn’t see much airing out to the 3 WRs, didn’t see many passes to the two tight ends…they attacked us with a gameplan we would have never prepared for. No chance that we expected them to run the ball out of unbalanced lines all night.. We had plenty of struggles which I didn’t enjoy, but we buckled down, got it together and showed mental and hysically toughness.

Nobody here is screaming Foles is going to the HOF. Nobody here is saying Foles is the greatest QB in the NFL or that he’s perfect. So far — Foles fits the scheme. Nothing wrong with that.
