Big Game Atmosphere

The 5-1 Eagles are in Arizona to take on the 5-1 Cardinals. Those are impressive records, but this is an October game. It’s too early for a big game, right? For some reason this game has the feel of a big game.

Eagles fans are in Arizona in droves.

The Eagles are coming off a big win over the Giants, including a shutout. Confidence is sky high.

The Eagles are coming off their bye week. They are rested. The team is also getting healthy, which adds to the optimism.

For some reason, I feel good about the game. And that has me nervous. I prefer to be on edge.

What’s the feeling out there with Eagles Nation?

Tommy, I’m an Eagles fan. We’ve been rooting for this team for about the same amount of time. I’m Sure we’ve had a similar fan experience with this team. I’ve seen them come out and torch teams that I thought were worlds better than us (48-8 against the 49ers), at the same time, I’ve seen them get dismantled by inferior teams. I was never more sure of anything than the fact that we were gonna beat the Jake Delhomme lead Carolina Panthers in the NFCCG. If my PTSD will allow me to remember without a full on panic attack, I think we scored 3 points that day. So I’m never more than cautiously optimistic.

In this game I do fall on the more optimistic side. I just think we match up well with this team. They have big slower WR, we have CBs that excel in that situation (see Chicago last year). They have a pocket passer that throws the ball up when under pressure. We’ve been creating a lot of pressure. They blitz a ton. We have an offense that eats the blitz alive. They can’t cover TEs, we have 4 good pass catching TEs. We’re rested coming off the bye. They are not. So, I think we’ll surprise people this week and kick off the second half of our season with a bang.

But, if we come out and get destroyed, I won’t be that shocked, the Eagles have done it to me too many times over the last 30 years.

Actually, Tommy, I’m calm about this game…just as I have been all season. Even in the SF game, I expected them to find a way to win. I expect that tomorrow, too. Look for Foles to have his best game of the season.

  7. 7 GEAGLE said at 10:39 AM on October 26th, 2014:

I have been calm and confident at all points this season. I expected a 5-1 start, and the only thing that didn’t go according to my script is I thought we would beat Niners and lose a letdown game to the Rams..
    ..
I have us becoming that thorn in arians side, that team that just has Arizonas number… Ertz and Celek destroyed them last year, and they managed to get even worse at defending TEs..PEterson isn’t playing up to par, I bet Maclin has his moments against him…

It’s really tough to win in Zona, so I should be more nervous..but I can’t help feel we blow right thru this team 28-17

Have to be honest. Completely stoked for the game OF COURSE! But confidence level is not high. I repeat…..I feel really sure we match up really well, & I think in quite a few areas, superior.Even I whatever areas that that AZ might have the edge it’s not by a lot. My concern is just 2 words long, stands six & a half feet tall & leads the league in turnovers. Arizona is 5-1 playing with 3 different quarterbacks. That tells me beside the fact that Bruce Arrogance & his staff are coaching the shit out of their team, it also tells me what I already knew, that their defense won’t suffer any fools. All I can do is pray we see ALOT more 2013 Foles & a lot less 2014. I think Arizona is for sure going to put a platoon near the line if scrimmage & force Nick to duke it out with Peterson, Honey Badger & company. He is going to HAVE to take advantage. Fitz will get his, always does. But the outcome is on if Foles can regain the “fleetness of mind”. Pure & simple. I HATE the Cardinals with a PASSION.Since I was a little dude & they were still in our division. And I hate them because it sure feels like one way or another, the Cards seem to pull off had scratcking STUPID W’s against us. PLEASE don’t let tomorrow be one of those Nick?

  16. 16 EagleNebula said at 1:16 AM on October 26th, 2014:

Going west under Reid always made me nervous in general. For some reason those long road trips always seemed mess things up. I am hoping that was an Andy thing and will not hold over with Chip.

Don’t go overboard on worrying about the turnovers quite yet, six games is not enough to draw statistical conclusions. A lot of football is yet to be played and the line is starting to find its groove and get healthy. That should impact everyone’s play.

  17. 17 Insomniac said at 1:21 AM on October 26th, 2014:

We’re going to have to pick on Cromartie. He looks like he lost a step so Cooper might have a good day. I don’t expect Maclin to be open this week.

  18. 18 Anders said at 6:16 AM on October 26th, 2014:

I really wonder what the Cards do if we go to our 3×1 with Ertz on side and the WRs on the other.

Do Peterson just stay on Cooper? Do Cromatie move over or do he stay on Ertz? If so, do they go to dime to cover Matthews with a DB instead of a LB? Also if Cromatie stay Maclin gets slot CB.

  19. 19 Insomniac said at 6:53 AM on October 26th, 2014:

Peterson will be on Maclin all day, he’s not Sherman who only works with one part of the field. Cromartie might be slower but he can still hang with #2 WRs. I assume it’s Powers as their slot CB and he’s not that bad. The safeties are what we need to pick on with the TE size advantage.

  20. 20 Anders said at 7:38 AM on October 26th, 2014:

Cardinal fans said on their SBN blog that Cromartie and Peterson normally stay on one side, thats why I wonder what they will do against a team who loves that 3×1 formation with the TE on the backside

  21. 21 GEAGLE said at 10:53 AM on October 26th, 2014:

I want to see FOles and Maclin go after pEterson early. He has struggled, I’d like to see us burn him early.. Maclin is good at drawing Interference penalties..pEterson has 7 penalties in 6 games already

  22. 22 GEAGLE said at 10:25 AM on October 26th, 2014:

Meh… Don’t really care about the name brand of the two Zona corners, neither is playing up to their name brand this year. Teams aren’t running away from pEterson this year and he isn’t having a good year at all by his standards.

Before Maclin got hurt he was one of the leaders in drawing interference penalties.. PEterson has 7 interference penalties in 6 games,, respect him, but no reason to fear him. They play man on the outside, Maclin is no slouch, screw pEterson and Cromartie, go after both! And Coop needs to beat Cromartie up like he owes him child support
    ..
With that said, they were terrible at defending TE last year, and this year they managed to be even worse

I’m absolutely pumped to finally see the Eagles in action again. The bye week dragged, as always.

I really think the defensive performance will be key this game. You have to wonder how good this Arizona offense really is. We know about their defense obviously, but the offense? How good are they exactly? The most points they’ve scored this season is 24… Against Oakland… Although, they do have two impressive wins against San Diego and San Francisco, it will be hard for them to win this game if we put up a lot of points on the scoreboard. The Eagles defense will do their part.

Time for Foles to light it up!!

Oh dear..I just read the news of Gerald McCoy’s new contract. Those top DTs like Dareus and Suh are going to get paid. This might be good or bad for us seeing how Cox needs to be extended in the next 2 years.

  34. 34 Anders said at 6:14 AM on October 26th, 2014:

The good thing for us is that Cox isnt putting up the numbers despite playing about just as well as them. Sadly (for the players) sacks is also big part of DT’s contract numbers

  35. 35 Insomniac said at 6:54 AM on October 26th, 2014:

Seeing how McCoy doesn’t have amazing numbers, it kind of worries me that people will overpay to keep some players. I would show Fletcher the door if he wants that money if he doesn’t post 10+ sacks next season.

  36. 36 Anders said at 7:36 AM on October 26th, 2014:

5 and 9.5 sacks is very good numbers for an interior DT. Cox did have 5.5 sacks his rookie year, so he got the potential for 8+ sack seasons even in this scheme and if he gets there, I would pay him (remember we still have 2 more seasons after this before we have to pay him)

  37. 37 Media Mike said at 8:31 AM on October 26th, 2014:

100% correct that our scheme is going to limit how much a DE gets paid because he isn’t going to generate the stats to get a 4-3 DT type payday.

  38. 38 Insomniac said at 4:32 PM on October 26th, 2014:

Scheme doesn’t matter if you’re just that dominant. JJ Watt doesn’t care about scheme. He played two versions of the 3-4 and still gets sacks.

  39. 39 GEAGLE said at 10:41 AM on October 26th, 2014:

Ridiculous contract… If they offered us that goofy Dahani jones wanna be Gerald McCoy for Cox straight up, I would tell them to go play in traffic… What a joke that franchise is.. Thought Lovie would clean things up….no such luck

  40. 40 Cafone said at 5:28 AM on October 26th, 2014:

If it wasn’t for Dallas being 6-1, a loss in this game wouldn’t really be a big deal. Beat the Texans and the Titans, get a win over either the Panthers or the Seahawks at home, then win 3 of the 4 remaining NFC East games and the Eagles are in good shape at 11-5.

But dammit the Cowboys are at 6-1 and I want the Birds to keep pace and win the division!

  41. 41 Dragon_Eagle said at 8:01 AM on October 26th, 2014:

  42. 42 GEAGLE said at 10:44 AM on October 26th, 2014:

Man, it would be too awesome to see dallas lose to Colt McCoy… But that’s a stretch!..
    ..
For skins to pull off the upset, Alfred Morris has to have a dominant game, controlling the time of possession, and the skins would need a few Big plays like the Rams got in the seahawks game.. Skins can’t win the game straight up, but hopefully our buddy Desean burns them deep once or twice, maybe get a special teams or defensive TD… I won’t hold my breath, but it would be such a glorious week if we beat Zona and the CLOWNboys lost to the LOLskins

  43. 43 Media Mike said at 8:32 AM on October 26th, 2014:

What is more annoying is that Dallas shouldn’t win more than 6 or 7 games total with that roster.

Feels like he’s gonna be the guy that ends up exploding during the pre-draft build up and will end up going too early for us. Love him though. Made some huge plays last night.

Early in the season I was loving Kevin White when he was projected to go in the 2nd round, now he’s probably a top-15 guy.

    Ifo is falling though.

  51. 51 D3FB said at 1:06 PM on October 26th, 2014:

Ifo is way too small, he got exploited a few weeks in a row, and I just don’t see him as a target for us.

Dupree will def rise during the predraft, he should do well in the dog and pony portion. Hopefully he lasts for us.

Right now the guys I would love to see for us in the first round:
Pruitt, Drummond, Dupree, Matias, and Montgomery

  52. 52 Insomniac said at 4:24 PM on October 26th, 2014:

Does Matias fit here in the OL? He doesn’t seem like he would last here if he doesn’t lose weight. Love Drummond, it would be awesome to have two safeties that can do it all.

  53. 53 D3FB said at 11:58 PM on October 26th, 2014:

Matias doesn’t look like it but once every game or two, he does something absolutely stupidly athletic. Against Clemson this year, he got 25 yards downfield and took out a safety on a QB draw. It was insane. He has some issues, which I think a combination of a little weight loss, and technique work should fix up, but he can undoubtedly play for us despite his size.

Good to know that no one was screwing with our hotel alarms like our last trip to the westcoast.

Hope to destroy this team… I can’t wait to watch our special teams. Burton and Braman are animals.. I’d like to see them destroy Ted Ginn today. Can’t wait to see what our ST does next…. We need to score a TD on a FG block and we will have scored a TD every single way possible this year

Someone called Ray about the Phillies and he doesn’t miss a beat. Just an amazing sports everything. He knows all the sports, actually used to write for all them. Get his book: One Last Read The Collected Works Of The World’s Slowest Sportswriter. Ugh sorry, I love listening and reading the guy with a passion

Anyone know what’s the latest on Adrain Peterson? Is he worth picking up in fantasy? Any chance he comes back this year? Then again, I’m in a dynasty league, so I should probably just pick him up anyway, I could end up deciding to keep him next year and it only cost me a 10th round pick

By rule, 10 seconds go off the clock? No?

  88. 88 sutherneagle said at 12:47 PM on October 26th, 2014:

not sure but maybe that`s regarding stopping the clock by way of a penalty? here that had already been stopped due to the spiked pass.
    does that make a difference?

  89. 89 BC1968 said at 12:50 PM on October 26th, 2014:

Yep, I think a dead ball foul. I guess since the clock wasn’t running when the penalty happened. Pretty sure the 10 second run off rule was put in so offenses couldn’t commit on purpose penalties to stop the clock.

That’s poop luck. You’re own penalty saves you.
