Gameday

Dallas trails Seattle 10-0. Let’s hope they trail by a lot more by the time that game is over. And Tony Romo has already taken one huge hit.

The Packers struggled to win at Miami.

The Panthers are in OT in Cincy. Their “juggernaut” defense has given up 24 or more points in 4 straight games and 37 or more in 3 of those 4 games. Yikes.

The NFC is not playing great football right now.

The Skins are playing the Cardinals. It actually might be in the Eagles best interest to cheer for the Skins since they look bad and the Cards are a playoff contender, but I can’t do it. Go Cards.

Just goes to show how consistently mediocre Dallas has been since Parcells left and “his” guys drifted away.

  6. 6 ACViking said at 5:26 PM on October 12th, 2014:

Also . . . those “meltdowns” may have been a function of how mediocre the NFC East has been for awhile.

thank you, bc of the cowboys/giants bandwagon/ny market bullshit this division is overrated every fucking year. it hasn’t been since the early/mid 90’s when this division was truly great, as in competing for SBs each year great

Peyton Manning in Kelly Green . . . 40 TDs and everyone’s putting up huge numbers.

It’s not the system Manning’s in or the team he’s on. Or the receivers he has.

    It’s him.

To be fair Tommy, Cincy has an even better D than the Panthers had last year, and the Panthers went into Cincy and made some noise, I’m pretty impressed with them as my expectations were for the clocks to hit midnight and watch that Cinderella team turn back into a pumpkin.

No more impressive wins by our NFC East Rivals, making a ruling on that, go Cards!

    But at Seattle?

    Still, there’s the 2nd half.

And my money’s on Russell Wilson. The guy’s star — and I don’t care how good the defense is there or Lynch.

Wilson’s a winner. And very good in the 4th Q when he has to be.

  54. 54 BlindChow said at 5:37 PM on October 12th, 2014:

It sucks seeing all the other teams in NFC East making all these explosive offensive plays, then having to cringe every time the Eagles offense takes the field. Ugh, I hope they get it together tonight. This could be ugly.

  56. 56 SteveH said at 5:39 PM on October 12th, 2014:

Cowboys OL is dominant. They are manhandling the Seattle D both in run blocking and pass protection. Best unit in the NFL. If they can stay injury free they have a good shot at a super bowl this year.

  59. 59 SteveH said at 5:40 PM on October 12th, 2014:

I’d also add, its unbelievable the difference a new D-coordinator has done for them. With the injuries they have their absolutely no reason at all that unit should be any better than it was last year, and you can easily make the case that it SHOULD be worse.

  60. 60 ACViking said at 5:42 PM on October 12th, 2014:

Too soon to talk about how the entire NFL media-universe will become a super nova overnight if the Cowboys defeat Seattle.

  68. 68 McNabbulousness said at 5:48 PM on October 12th, 2014:

oh thank god, just checked the injury report and ryans is a go! my biggest fear was acho and matthews, who together makeup about 3/4 of an actual nfl LB, playing together on the field for long periods of time.

  69. 69 SteveH said at 5:51 PM on October 12th, 2014:

You are what your record says you are,, I believed that when we were 4-12 and you can bet I be.ieve it today..

  81. 81 McNabbulousness said at 6:20 PM on October 12th, 2014:

shaky in terms of performance. in games where the margin of victory is 7 points or less a NFL team’s avg record is .500. we can very easily have a worse record since a lot of our games have been close (7pts or less).

style points are silly, just ask any college football fan who has been screwed by the polls/bcs (Penn State fans circa 94).

Guys I’m 46 going on 47, I would make love to the Giants before I would even have a little like for the cowshits. I grew up in great pain, and i’ts cause of the fake fans in Philly that think the Cowboys are their team. I HATE THOSE MFERS

I have a stressful night ahead and it could be great, half-half or death.

  117. 117 BC1968 said at 6:16 PM on October 12th, 2014:

Mind you, I could go to Dallas, never have been, and yet would have no hatred whatsoever, just jealousy of the fans who had a great team. Yeah I hate the arrogance of all teams fans, but the cowfake fans take the cake. The reall Dallas fans deserve their team.

  122. 122 Dragon_Eagle said at 6:19 PM on October 12th, 2014:

And we haven’t even gotten to the best part yet. 4th quarter Romo is coming.

  123. 123 Insomniac said at 6:22 PM on October 12th, 2014:

Rex Ryan seems to be done after this year in NY. Do we fire Davis if the defense continues to be bad and take Rex?

  124. 124 CASEY MATTHEWS said at 6:33 PM on October 12th, 2014:

Purely from a football perspective %100 yes. I do think that he has dug himself a hole with his mouth though. A great coach but too much personality for a Coordinator.

  125. 125 BlindChow said at 6:35 PM on October 12th, 2014:

I doubt the Eagles fire Davis. Kelly just doesn’t seem to care enough about defense. He’s laid out his parameters (two-gap 3-4, player heights, etc) and Davis follows those, so I think that’s all that matters to Chip.

I’m also not sure Rex has the type of character Kelly would be into.

  126. 126 McNabbulousness said at 6:48 PM on October 12th, 2014:

i trust this organization from the top down to do the right thing. i doubt that kelly “doesn’t care enough about defense.” he knows what give offenses trouble and wants that system in place. he’s not an expert on running defenses so he stays back and let’s his coaching staff coach. he knows this is a process and won’t overreact in the short term.

  127. 127 McNabbulousness said at 6:45 PM on October 12th, 2014:

you need time to get the personnel in place in order to be successful. perennial bad teams overreact, fire the people in place, and have their attention drawn to the shiniest new object they see. this is not a recipe for success in the nfl, let alone on any level.

give fipp time to develop players and obtain talent that fits his scheme. i say he’s done pretty well considering the secondary we have/had and the fact that trent cole and brandon graham had to be converted to OLBs.

  128. 128 Crus57 said at 6:49 PM on October 12th, 2014:

I had this thought also, but I wonder if Rex and Chip can work together over a whole season, with Chip liking to keep things calm and quiet and Rex seemingly liking to talk in the press a bit.

  129. 129 BC1968 said at 6:22 PM on October 12th, 2014:

Anyone think we should’ve taken Spencer?

  130. 130 SteveH said at 6:23 PM on October 12th, 2014:

Not really. He’s a solid starter but not special.

  131. 131 BC1968 said at 6:23 PM on October 12th, 2014:

Yeah when we did all that traded down though, we got Kolb right? And then whatever else I can’t tell you.

  132. 132 SteveH said at 6:24 PM on October 12th, 2014:

Stewart Bradley and CJ Gaddis I think. Though if we hadn’t had the pick to waste on Gaddis we may not have gotten Brent Celek.

  318. 318 BlindChow said at 7:33 PM on October 12th, 2014:

All week you’re going to hear “We should have run the ball more” from Seattle. Idiotic playcalling. This is what happens when you put the game in the hands of Russel Wilson.

  319. 319 xeynon said at 7:34 PM on October 12th, 2014:

He’s not nearly as good when he doesn’t have a dominant running game and defense backing him. Still a very nice quarterback, but all this “top 5 in the NFL” talk is nonsense.

  320. 320 RobNE said at 7:38 PM on October 12th, 2014:

Top 5? Usually they crown him number one overall

  321. 321 BlindChow said at 7:43 PM on October 12th, 2014:

Yeah, and they completely abandoned the run this game. Insane!

  322. 322 ACViking said at 7:38 PM on October 12th, 2014:

    Dallas DBs played tough.

The refs let both sides play real football.

Seattle’s lack of a WR exposed.

And Wilson . . . wow. Looked like an imposter.

  323. 323 anon said at 7:40 PM on October 12th, 2014:

He’s a game manager — in a good way. But he’s not peyton manning or even tono romo — gun slinging isn’t his game. He’ll get positive plays and won’t turn the ball over.

  324. 324 ACViking said at 7:44 PM on October 12th, 2014:

In fairness to Wilson, he’s had his moments.

  331. 331 ACViking said at 7:36 PM on October 12th, 2014:

  334. 334 anon said at 7:35 PM on October 12th, 2014:

If we looked better I would have crowned us. Seattle is 19-2 at home. I do think it’s a big win for them and a statement win the division.

  335. 335 xeynon said at 7:40 PM on October 12th, 2014:

When was the last time a team won the Super Bowl by peaking in October?

Dallas being an actual contender rather than just another hot-starting also-ran depends on at least four things that history suggests are highly improbable:

    1.)DeMarco Murray staying healthy;
    2.)an undertalented defense not being exposed as the season goes along;
    3.)Tony Romo not falling apart in December;
4.)Jason Garrett outcoaching his counterpart in big late-season games

Looking at that list, I’m not worried. We’ve seen this movie before. The postseason “how did such a promising season fall apart?” laments from the Cowboy apologists might as well already be written.

  336. 336 anon said at 7:41 PM on October 12th, 2014:

  337. 337 xeynon said at 7:43 PM on October 12th, 2014:

No, but he does mismanage the clock, blow timeouts, waste challenges, etc. Having a chump as your head coach still hurts you even if he’s not calling plays.

  338. 338 BC1968 said at 7:48 PM on October 12th, 2014:

Exactly right, on both your posts.

  339. 339 BC1968 said at 7:50 PM on October 12th, 2014:

Number 2 is such an excellent point, when you overachieve, you can only do it for so long, it doesn’t get better. This is an overachieving defense right now. Hey that could change, but shit, we’re going to hear fucking COWBOYS out our asses all week long. We need to thump the Giants.
