PHI 20 , STL 7 – 2nd Half
Posted: October 5th, 2014 | Author: Tommy Lawlor | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 554 Comments »LeSean McCoy started slow and had a terrible fumble in the 1st half, but Chip Kelly didn’t give up on him. McCoy got going in the 2nd quarter and finished with 7 carries for 32 yards. He ran with more confidence and finally had some room to work with. He also caught 4 passes.
The Eagles threw the ball a lot in the 1st half. I think this was by design. Build a lead, get the defense running all over and try to tire them out a bit.
I fully expect the Eagles to run a good amount in the 2nd half. They may continue to throw on the opening possession, but after that I think we’ll see a lot of running, with both McCoy and Sproles.
The Eagles defense is having a solid day.
The STs scored another TD. Those guys are playing lights out.
Good 1st half overall, but still lots of sloppy play. The Eagles got to play with a lead for a very short period last week. An early turnover in the 2nd half completely changed that game. If the Eagles can move the ball and possibly score, they’ll get a chance to show what they can do with a lead.

Little lonely in here…
You’re never alone.
Aww…
taking care of halftime duties. neglected kids, shower etc
Put together some food for the 2nd half. Man can’t watch football on an empty stomache.
Let’s go offense. Put the game away.
Like to get a run game going.. No cutback lanes., run straight!
Peters a bit gimpy.
Jake Locker is already injured again.
More like “Hurt Locker”, am I right?!?! Ugh.
Oscar award winning joke right here, folks.
Would have been gold if his name was Kurt Locker or somesuch.
Unbalanced line…called it
McCoy upfield is way better than Dancer McCoy.
James casey just hit an awesome block to get the RB the first down
lane got beat hard there
Come on rook
sweet block in the back.
That was the most obvious block in the back I’ve ever seen.
Worst block in the back ever.
Indeed. As Johnston said, how do you think you’re going to get away with that if you’re Reynolds?
Was that Casey Matthews getting knocked down? Still making plays!
woooooooooooooooohooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
sorry, i started the eagles d in fantasy today
WOW
That was the least athletic play I’ve ever seen!!!
2 weeks in a row with a special teams score and a defensive score. Wow.
damn, defense. nice job.
I should drafted eagles defense/special team
this is my 2nd week in a row starting them!
nice job by thornton hitting the OL so he couldn’t get a hold of the ball!
Special teams and defense return in consecutive weeks; record?
We don’t really have to do much to win this game, do we?
at this point, just limit mistakes. which we could certainly improve upon
The Rams blockers woke up with amnesia this morning. What were we doing again?! Oh right blocking.
no
Still pissed because I want to watch a good game, man. Bad football is still bad football. Winning isn’t that fun, when these guys are so bad.
winning is always fun
Always!!!!!!
Serious question: do OL ever work on recovering fumbles? I mean that was first kiss clumsiness right there…
I doubt it
I mean, I guess you don’t want 300+ pound guys throwing themselves onto the ground when they don’t have to…
lol when you say it like that….
2 weeks in a row, we get a punt block and a fumble recovery for a TD by one of our DEs. Nice
Jake Long sucks
Hard to get a measure on the Eagles.
The Rams may be worse than JAX.
Hail! AC!
hey.
lots of radio today.
at the office
I hope you double-bill hours on gamedays…
Double billing does work best flying east to west.
A friend of mine worked a case in Korea and said the flight time counted. Sweet.
The ultimate in efficiency.
For a moment there, NFL Gamecenter had J Barksdale recovering the fumble and running for a 100yd TD.
god i hate that thing.
Despite living in the future, gamecenter is ahead of NFL gamepass’s feed, so I read it to know what to watch for. Was a scary moment.
Look I know pinktober and all that… but that pink outline on the Eagles logo in the endzone is just godawful.
but jeff fisher has some *fabulous* pink sunglasses, so there’s that. LOL
Go Texans.
“I told Austin not to look over his shoulder…” – Jeff Fisher on Austin Davis.
Good thing… we have, what, two strip sacks?
Are the Rams playing for the 1st overall pick?
I’m trying to come up with a phrase that rhymes with “Marcus” or “Mariota”…
Orange?
Ha!
… Meet the quota for Marcus Mariota…
Catchy! Put it on a shirt!
Though… maybe “Don’t meet the quota”? We should focus group it…
It’s the quota of losses. I think.
Okay good. Let’s go with that!
Advice taken perhaps too literally.
Good thing he’s a Southern Miss alum where the distinction between literal and figurative only gets addressed at the grad level.
Come on, let’s be fair to Southern Miss – there’s no way they have a graduate level.
They do. They start with the multiplication tables, the Clifford the Big Red Dog books, and advanced basket weaving.
Really? “Advanced” basket weaving?
To be fair (and this is what marrying someone from the south will do), Southern Miss. does have a full slate of graduate programs.
holding!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Haha, Beau Allen is so nimble for a stubby heavy guy.
jenkins would have intercepted that
Eagles defense has proven, if nothing else, to be opportunistic this season.
The Saints won a SB that way.
We was 2nd in the NFL in turnovers on defense last year
I think — at least it sounds — like this defense is even better at TOs this year.
Okay… let’s get Shady some yards and confidence now. Get this running game going.
Imagine the Rams in Kelly Green and While helmuts w/ green wings.
You are now watching the 1970 Eagles.
And the 1969 Eagles
And the 1968 Eagles
You get the point.
We’re spoiled.
That’s a fact.
Well that was unnecessarily scary.
mccoy is going to give me a heart attack. sheesh
That is a major upgrade. For the past 4 weeks its been all 53 players plus the coach doing that.
I just screamed at McCoy.
Man, you just *don’t* have to do this!
unacceptable. false start on coop…
Seriously, is this crap fun?
A lot more fun than last week was.
I got to see *some* good plays, even if it was for the other team. And the struggles were understandable.
This one is just merely sloppy rather than be outmatched. So I know we’re not going to lose. No dramatic tension, like Cam apparently bringing his team back despite nothing from RBs or OL, and a ton of drops apparently.
Also, you look at this, and you just have real doubts about whether we can really win against anyone good.
It’s not a work of art, but I’d rather win ugly any day.
We should be massacring the Rams. The score really shouldn’t be a close as it is. The offense has scored just one TD and a couple of field goals against a crap D. While the Rams offense is nearly totally useless.
See what I mean, man?
Yes. But our O line is a mess, our RB can’t get untracked, and our QB has been up-and-down, and we’re still winning by 27 points. I’m not going to complain.
But it’s not as fun as a real massacre, though. And film review on Monday is pretty likely to be sobering.
I won’t argue that this win means the team is on track for the Super Bowl. They certainly have a lot of issues to clean up. But when your team is dealing with serious injury issues and several of your best players aren’t playing their best football and you’re still on track to be 4-1, it’s a good thing. No team is sharp all the time.
A good team not at their best looks like the 49’ers last week. We don’t look like that.
Foles looks like he’s gone back to the “grip and rip it” strategy.
damn who got blown up
everyone on OL. lol
we constantly on 3rd and long
i give credit to coop for breaking up that pass
Coop’s pass break up there was arguably his best play of the season.
Riley Cooper has saved Foles bacon a couple of times.
The awfulness of this O line continues to be an issue, and it’s not just Molk and Tobin. Peters is clearly not 100% and basically cost us a chance to continue that drive.
when the OL aren’t performing well, it really hurts a team that is built to run the ball
Cant do much when those guys are sitting at home watching the game
I’m not too worried, if they can just play decent and get a win and get some things going for better teams.
Did anyone expect Lane to come in and make us the early Cowboys’ O Line
Just about everyone who calls WIP or hosts a radio show on same.
They all went to Southern Miss.
I mean to say the early 90’s Cowboys..oops
How do you leave Tavon Austin uncovered?
wow. no one anywhere near the receiver there
What the hell?
Omg, we almost had another one.
DEFENSEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
OMG i wanted thornton to get another TD ssoooooooo bad
Damn guys, you can’t have a convoy like that and let your returner get tackled (why am I complaining about this?)
Seriously, Jenkins wasn’t even paying attention!
Lucky someone didn’t catch him and strip him, big guys should just fall usually lol
i am because i needed the td for fantasy!
brandon graham with the FF
Damn that was a missed TD
c’mon Foles. that should have been a TD
man turn around and block!!!
Pay the big guy already.
2nd throw better than the first.
Jeremy Maclin, wide freakin’ open.
alright, Foles. you have redeemed yourself.
(sarcasm font) I don’t know… that throw to Maclin was a bit underthrown.
but maclin only catches easy TDs!
Ha!
Maclin’s greatest asset as a receiver is deceiving the defense into believing he’s harmless, then left uncovered catching walk in TD’s.
Don’t forget getting tackled, looking mortally wounded, and then returning on the next series, fine.
AKA Jevon Kearse syndrome.
Good teams play bad and still lead 34-7. Seriously, we’re not playing all that well and we’re blowing them away.
Seriously – or not I guess – we’re up 34-7 and there is plenty to criticize.
At least its not a heart attack game.
Right, what are we going to do with normal heart beats in the 4th quarter?
I may need to cancel my weekly charter ambulance.
Rams have the feel of a team that’s like fuck it… when’s the bus leaving again?
Brandon Graham putting together a “heckuva” game. Curious to see if Chip and Billy will downplay this performance…
Why would they do that? He has gotten a ton of snaps this game
Graham finally appears to be adjusting to the 3-4. He’s still not a natural in coverage but he’s become something less of liability than he used to be. And he’s been very effective setting the edge and rushing the passer from the outside.
i was listening to the game on the radio at the start. Graham’s name was called as he was in the right position in coverage, but he just couldn’t locate the ball. any idea what happened on that play?
i’m glad to see him really performing this season. Cole is starting to play well too so i don’t think he’s going to win that starting job just yet. but i think he’s shown enough that he should be brought back when Cole hangs ’em up. next year?
Graham still needs to work on his cover skills, but at least he’s now in the same camera shot as the receiver, so that’s progress. When he’s going forwards he’s at his best.
I think the ball will be in Graham’s court, however. If he feels he’ll get more playing time (or money) on a 4-3 team, how much would you (Roseman) be willing to pony up for a guy that’s not your ideal OLB? I think you could argue it’s hard to find performers at that spot, but how much do you commit to him when you’ve got other contracts to fill?
THis is bullshit. How dare this team not run a punt or kickoff back for a touchdown? I guess there’s still time.
Well Fipp needs to tell them to stop blocking punts or Davis needs to let the Rams score more often. Our coaches suck.
I started Eagles DST in one of my fantasy leagues.
Did Williams already check out of the game?
Not his fault. He’s exhausted from practice.
He is looking more and more like NA part 2
THat was lame, poor Matthews didn’t do anything. It’s bad enough for him already for that to happen.
lol he already has to overcome his lack of athleticism. shame he gets more against him here. lol
Smith has to get his hands up
Cunningham with another TD in Philly…
Wow, our defense is suddenly nonexistant.
Did we got into a prevent defense there or something?
This is how we let teams come back on us over and over again last year.
had nickle defense on, had Curry, Graham, Cole and Smith in the game
Took a break on that drive.
Running game time.
Ah. Koy Detmer flashback.
This would be a nice McCoy confidence eat the clock drive.
Odell Beckham Jr. on the board for the Gints.
He looks very good.
Spotted a lions fan complaining about kicking game, Henery mess up again?
0 for 2 today according to Kempski
maybe the lions will take Nate too
Atta boy Shady!
It looks like they are not only using James Casey on a wham block there, but bringing in flankers to give McCoy that one extra block. Kind of folding the O in and up
Coop coming in for extra blocking too
Wham block!
What a bad throw by FOles, I agree with fatso for a change.
crowd really getting into it. sounds awesome from the tv feed
Is McCoy looking better? Stuck w Giants game here.
Stupid mistakes.
fuck. thats a fumble.
NEVER SLIDE FORWARD! Have we learned nothing from Eli???
or Vick?
My thoughts exactly.
Jesus
For such an easy win, this is going to be one hell of an ugly Monday video review.
Oh you marked this as a win? You haven’t been watching the Eagles that many years then have you?
Oh, yeah, Austin Davis is going to turn into a starter level QB and lead, Vick style to an incredible comeback.
Of course, we *could* have pick-6s and Special Teams TDs, but is that likely?
Wow, stupidity.
This is why we can’t have nice things… this is why we can’t have nice things…
Too much time watching Vick
Sloppy, sloppy Foles.
That was ugly. UGH.
That sounds like a new school lunch invention…
Do the wings on the helmet make it impossible to slide?
maybe now they will actually work on this. Foles has never been able to slide properly. ugh.
Same shit with Vick, why don’t Eagles qb’s slide?
Normally they talk about bringing someone in from the Phillies to teach them, but that’s probably not a great idea this year…
Foles took a page out of Eli’s playbook on that play.
Good times.
I can’t believe how much worse Foles is this year.
I slid better in t-ball
In other news, the Texans have the ball at the Dallas 45 with 2 minutes to play, down 7.
Can’t believe I’m saying this, but this is a big play.
Air Bair!
that white man can jump
not really, he’s just tall. but whatever
Yeah he’s huge, I was going to say, he barely has to jump lol
Nate actually had pretty damn good coverage there. sucks
Casey Matthews in coverage is horrible.
It’s like he had to pause and think, “Okay, he caught the ball, what am I supposed to do now?”
ugh. c’mon casey matthews….
Texans Tie it Up!!!
COME ON DEFENSE
Texans score!
Yes
And they drop! Double yes
When you’re behind him like that, blast the ball out of his hand.
cox made that sack for barwin.
NOW, Kenny Britt drops a pass.
Cowboys late turnover please!!!!!!!!!
Moose starting to watch Cowboys game instead…
what. the. fuck.
Late 4th quarter – its Romo time in Texas. 🙂
wth are these d backs doing
bradley fletcher? jesus christ, man…. that was fucking pathetic
Wow just wow, I thought he was throwing that ball out of bounds
Wow, the defense is still garbage. I can’t believe it.
hopefully the rams didn’t figure out the strategy of throwing it at Fletcher every play…
Time to start the Jaylen Watkins experiment?
Problem is, we can’t run the freaking clock either.
i thought we were doing OK at that on the last drive… until the Foles fumble…
Good point, both of you.
They were snapping the ball with 10+ seconds left on the play clock. No need to do that. Not only does it make it harder to run off time, it means more snaps and more wear-and-tear on your players.
I’m concerned that Chip’s inability to throttle down the offense into clock-chewing mode will prove to be an Andy Reid-esque Achilles heel in deep playoff runs at some point.
sure, but if Foles doesn’t fumble that ball, we’re not talking about this.
The more unnecessary snaps you have when you’re just trying to run clock, the greater the chances something goes wrong.
so now their problem is that they ran too many snaps on that drive? i’m confused.
Run as much time off the clock between snaps as you can. That means more time off the clock with each snap, more time per series of downs and fewer necessary 3rd down conversions, and fewer chances for something bad like a fumble to happen.
We weren’t doing too bad earlier, but Foles has to turnover the ball a certain number of times per game…
Bradley Fletcher sucks.
Both our starting CB sucks
This is not a good win no matter how you wrap it, hope it happens, but still. Are we ready for big time football? This could be a look ahead game so who knows?
Someone types this every single time we win, yet we are 4-1, EXACTLY where I said we would be (tho I expected to beat san, fran and lose to Rams)… We don’t have to be ready for primetime or whatever bulshit cliche we like to throw out…. We need to keep winning, stay healthy, let our young players grow and peak in December..if we are still having these games in December, then we have a proble,
…
This is a team that’s still growing, and has had some adversity thrown in its face… I don’t know why anyone would expect this September juggernaut right now..
Don’t count this “W” yet.
Our corners are awful…..we need more talent now….too bad mid season acquisitions are pretty much impossible
Mid season there’s only shit out there anyways. You got whatchya got
Maybe we can make an acquisition via subtraction?
I don’t understand why Boykin can’t get on the field more. I get that Davis prefers a particular physical profile for his corners, but really – you’d rather have big, sh*tty corners like Williams and Fletcher than a small, good one like Boykin?
I’ll take that bad kickoff to give us decent position. That was odd they couldn’t decide what they wanted to do?
Because Henery apparently doesn’t believe in making field goals, the Bills had a chance to come back with Mr. Drunk Pornstash, and did so. Now, Stafford actually has to be competent for a win…
Don’t forget to hate on Nate too
Cross your fingers the Dallas PK hits the JerryVision on his FG…
Foles gets advice on sliding from this guy
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5-CgM5UNMw
This team could be 5-1 very soon, and still, what the fuck kind of team do we have? A special teams defensive scoring machine?
Every time we have had negative results and someone makes an excuse for why you are bad…someone always responds with: “YOU ARE WHAT YOUR RECORD SAYS YOU ARE”… Don’t see why that would only apply to the bad times
Ehhh, Bailey is gonna get a shot at it
Foles is a nightmare this season
That play always works, safe play to the outside.
theyve been scheming that play all game by bringing in coop to run block
Those IDIOTS don’t realize the clock don’t stop til under 5 minutes
To be fair, it’s not like it’s their job to… wait…
53 yard attempt
We need a first here, this is big, we are fucking this up.
I think I hate shady
Don’t raise your hands, looks petty.
Bench shady Til Kelce and mathis get back
Terrible, fans sitting on their hands now.
yea they were loud as hell earlier… when we had a big lead. shame
Throwing short of the line on 3rd and long!
This is awful!
That was a horrible offensive possession.
And we can’t stop the Rams on defense.
Dallas missed! Going to OT!
Bailey wide left from 53…… Overtime!
Awesome! GO Texans!
30 yd punt!?!
Even our great punter is shitting the bed. I don’t understand this whole fucking team.
Big turnover will be what ends the game, but still, we are up a shit right now.
I guess Acho isn’t dead… since he missed that tackle.
As much attention to detail as Chip gives, it seems clear that some of our team are dumb as rocks with the small costly mistakes they are making.
Ugh
We have an opportunistic defense but they can’t close a game out at all.
UGGHH. Bradley effing Fletcher.
HINT: They’re throwing the ball!
get fletcher out of the game
Riley Cooper going out of bounds to stop the clock. THat announcer should be FIRED right now for not knowing the rules.
No, it’s cool. You don’t need to cover the running back.
Trying to keep track of too much. So many games close…
And typhoons, and ebolas…
See how the clock didn’t stop
Nolan Carroll just doesn’t look like he wants to be out there. at least Fletcher tries to tackle guys
Question: Have we already used our “bail out” turnover?
They went out with over 5 min and the clock didn’t stop..ASSSHOLEEE
oh god, I’m getting a chill.
If the Rams come back. They actually come back…
Call back the cardiac wagon!! We gonna need it!
We can’t stop the check-down. Good thing it’s not Kolb back there…
What the fuck? All this underneath shit
Lol this is hilariously bad. We just let the Rams get right back in the game.
Lol this is a joke
sigh…………
Shady can’t play until KELCE and mathis gets back.. Like our fans, shady isnt understanding that he needs to recalibrate his expectations. He can not expect to run the same way he does when he has the best center and Guard in all of football in front of him… If he can’t readjust, and cut this dumb shit out, then bench him Til he gets it… And when KELCE and Mathis get back in November he can get back to his dancing
haha, yep what a great defense. Who was that hyping them up earlier?
I don’t ANYONE to ever say our corners “aren’t that bad”
Bad? You’re being kind.
Well so much for not having heart problems in the 4th quarter..what a joke
this team sucks
If the Eagles blow this game, it will officially be the worst loss of the Chip Kelly era.
This has been an awful performance.
wtf is going on here.
What a joke
this is just like 2012 Detroit game.
Yep, we went 4-12 that year
what an awful throw by Austin Davis. if Cary williams saw the ball coming, he could have made a play on the ball
Needed some humor there, thanks.
Unfortunately, Cary Williams is a subpar NFL cornernback. Guys like that don’t make these plays.
should have said “sarcasm” in the post. this was a joke as people were saying that Foles TD pass to cooper was a bad pass because the DB could have made a play on it… or something
hahaha wtf!
Like Martin Lawrence once said to Will Smith….. “Shit just got real”
K first downs and win this….or else…..
This team drives me bat shit crazy
They have to win, because I can’t take a loss in this city this week….so that’s that… Now flap your fucking wings, make a play and go win this game!
Lol
Guess that’s why we don’t huddle. It takes an hour.
They don’t know how to run the clock…this is pathetic
This is football 101. As smart as Chip Kelly is, I can’t believe he has this blind spot.
They know, the OL is just not good enough
Doesn’t matter the clock stops stupid announcer play clock was down anyways
That’s EXACTLY what this team needs right now…Booo them! That will help…fuckin losers
FUck them and their million dollars, trying to ruin everyone’s week.
Eloquent as always!
Like am I crazy? I get it, it sucks… It’s friggin crunch time, and you boooo them at home?
welll this is a cluster f.
Cam Newton must have been absolutely incredible today.
Let’s hit Ertz for the Firstz…
I hate shady… Please give it to Sproles…PLEASE!!
i’m surprised we havent seen Polk in there at all. would be nice for a change of pace late in the game.
Out with hamstring.
oh! thanks!
Good call!
That’s all I asked… Thank you
or what you said. thats good too. : )
He ran STRAIGHT!! Look at that, what a concept
Need a first down here, big time.
So, third down. Do we throw deep or just short of the chains?
Do the roll out pass play.
That this team is in a position where they have to make plays to win the game at this point is inexcusable.
Holy shit, I love you Darren Sproles.
He needs to be the starter, seriously.
Fire Shady
Sroles says, “cya fuckers!”
“I’m ghost….bitches!!!M…”
No excuse to not be able to run
How fitting, Sproles our fearless leader with the first
FG range and let’s go home with diapers full
sproles – MVP of the Eagles.
all right, another big 3rd down conversion here
Gotta get a decent play to get it down for a first down.
Play for the game coming up.
Thought that would be play action.
Dial it up Chip!
…..
jeez. they saw that play coming a mile away
They’re going to make a 3rd string rookie drive it down the field.
Clock’s gotta strike midnight sometime.
Oh please, we can only hope!
The same 3rd string rookie who’s been carving them up in this 4th quarter?
Again, the fact that Davis has the ball in his hands with a chance to win the game, after the way things stood at the end of the 3rd quarter, is completely effing inexcusable. Even if they hold on to win this game, Kelly needs to be roasted this week.
Nah, it will be Foles, Shady, and way back will be the offensive genius Kelly.
If they score another TD we lose.
Even an incomplete pass would’ve taken us to the two minute warning, right?
yep
Chip Kelly clearly hasn’t played enough Madden.
Ironic, for he is maddening.
I don’t like that draw play out of the shotgun at this point. Nobody is going to be fooled. Line up with multiple TEs, put Casey at FB, and pound it up the middle. There’s still a game situation that calls for old time football.
Giants and Cowboys win…
They have to make it interesting
It wouldn’t killed them to run that roll out pass, how much time would you lose? Geez
Fisher looks like my drunk Jack nicholson back from margaritaville with those pink shades… Pop an E pill while your at it wacko
Dallas wins.
damn. though it is nice that they had to win in OT against the texans
Turnover will end this game. Stop being so dramatic, I want to have an easy game one day!
Beautiful punt, our defense loses this, they can go home for good.
glad to see a nice punt this week. the last few clutch time punts have been awful
ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
DEFENSE!!! DEFENSE!!M DEFENSE refuse to lose!!!!!
Terrible secondary, unreal.
haha, oh man they’re losers.
I feel sick.
I literally feel sick!!!
tackle made by McCleod… uhhhh
There can be only one…
fantastic. i applaud you, sir.
DEFENSE!!! DEFENSE!! DEFENSE!!
fuckin bench fletcher
HOW DO YOU LEAVE A MAN THAT WIDE OPEN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FUCKING FIELD LIKE THAT?!
Guys WIDE open. We got lucky
That’s how we won against Washington.
No..no..no,fuckers!!! DEFENSE! DEFENSE! DEFENSE!!
wtf does it take for this team to bench someone?
One more big play!!!!!!!!!!
DEFENSE! DEFENSE! DEFENSE!mrefuse to lose!
DEFENSE!,DEFENSE! DEFENSE!
I hate that they have to go 5 seconds past the clock before it’s delay of game…
3rd and long I can’t watch
c’mon defense.
DEFENSE! DEFENSE! DEFENSE!!
Oh shit, this is unreal. BOth nfc east teams won
shouldnt that also take time off the clock? or did that rule change?
phew.
Another easy win, everybody!
WOW He didn’t even try there? After all that? That’s all they get?
miscommunication? how about the guy coming free up the middle of the OL forcing Davis to throw the ball earlier than he wanted?
Don’t none of these people feel proud.
None of them.
DEFENSE!! DEFENSE! DEFENSE! Flap your wings boys!…
…
Offense didn’t deserve that game anyway. It’s fitting that the defense was on the field to win it! DEFENSE!mDEFENSE!mDEFENSE!!
You mean the defense who couldnt stop the fucking Rams?
It was both offense and defense fault it even got this close. We gave up 28 points to an unimpressive Rams offense
Yup another week where the defense ultimately gives up a ton of points.
They had some really good moments but allowed a ton of huge plays in the 2nd half.
3rd string rookie qb dominated us at the end. What do we do? What do we do?
Keep finding ways to win until we get it together and catch our stride
Get used to it. We have two lousy cornerbacks and an offense that can’t run out the clock, no lead will be safe this season.
Can nothing be easy?
i hate this broadcasting team
THey don’t understand the clock stopping under 5 minutes? I don’t get that shit, kept saying stupid shit like the Cooper play.
I can say this: The special teams is the only given on this slopfest of a team.
The only good team we have beat is the Colts, they’ve been doing great since we beat them.
So much for a stress free victory. At least they got the win!!!
Its pathetic that we struggle against the freaking Rams, but i’ll take the W. I’ll take questionable W’s all the way to the Super Bowl post game show
Questionable wins won’t get you to the Super Bowl.
It will get you to the play offs. After week 10 we should have Mathis and Kelce back and offense might begin to score more than 2 TDs
Offense wasn’t the issue. They went into a shell offensively late in the game. The bigger problem is that the defense fell apart at the end.
Offense was the problem.
A few poor turnovers, especially the McCoy and Foles fumbles was the problem.
and the fact that Foles is just BAD right now
He was mediocre this week. But that’s better than last week.
No Foles was BAD, constantly drifting back, throwing of his backfoot into coverage and that is not even thinking of the fumble and that poor underthrown int.
Both were the problem, without a doubt. 30th ranked defense, no defense for the offense.
More of a playcalling issue though. Unimaginative running plays + bad clock management = no points, not enough ToP.
I am more concerned about the defense. All they had to do to salt away an easy win was not give up big chunks of yards or easy TDs in the 4th quarter, and they went out and did both.
Running the ball with 3 seconds to the 2 minute warning seemed especially dumb. They were having success throwing it, and one more 1st down would have iced it.
Indeed.
I thought Chip’s coaching was unfairly criticized last week, but he was flat out bad this week.
>TB vs. Seattle 2013
>questionable win
>won the Super Bowl
The issue is that this team isn’t winning the Super Bowl with the weaknesses it has. Struggle to run the clock and let your defense get torched against a better team than the Rams and a better quarterback than Austin Davis, and this game is a “L”.
4-1… You are what your record says you are….. Is what I was always told when our record was bad…
Cowboys are 4-1 too.
Thinks it’s a coincidence that the first time they been Goode in years iswhen their OL is good? Or that we don’t look as good as last year when we had the best OL in Eagles history? Think these are just coincidences?msee Brady’s play with a bad line?
…
Everything is intertwined.. It’s a mistake to think replacing the best cEntet in the NFL isn’t going to effect FOles n shady.. Replacing the best guard in football with Tobin…
….
OL effects everything and everyone, which is why your DL is so important… Need to recalibrate expectations Til nov 10 when they get back
We are lucky sons of… parents.
We played the 30th ranked defense in the league and were shit other than a few plays…lol
I thought it would be ugly, that Shady would struggle again, and that the Eagles would ultimately win yesterday. All that matters although this OL is still a mess and Foles made some really poor decisions this week.
Hey, it could be a look ahead game, next week will tell a lot.
This secondary is turning into legendary awful, what are we going to do with them?
One might say take them out behind the woodshed, but they’d probably get lost on the way…
haha no doubt
Im almost missing NA+DRC
You high? ATleast these dudes tackle RBs… Plus we saw, these corners struggle early last year and get it together to play some quality ball against a murderous row of wide Reciever tandems in November – JAnuary… See no reason to think that won’t happen again, especially since we are getting a pass rush..
.
Look at every year Cary has played, you always see much better november-JAnuary player, and always have these early season struggles… Brad was also better in crunch time last year…. That should continue especially as Malcolm really settles in,,,. If wolff ever gets it together and takes Nates job. That would be awesome.. Don’t have much faith In him..
…
As long as we peak at the right time, like last year, we will be fine.,,.. Nice to see us find a way to win these early season slop fests tho… We Lose these games the last two seasons.
Did you watch Williams pathic attempt at an tackle in this game?
I also saw him hold up Zac Stacy alone while waited for team mates to get their… Namdi would have run away if he saw Zac coming at him..funny how you won’t ever say a bad word about Nate or Brad… I have no prob keeping it real when Cary is either A) an idiot B) gets burnt…. Try it
You do realize “at least he’s a better tackler than Nnamdi” is about the least inspiring complimentary thing you could possibly say about a cornerback?
Holy Molly that was a rough second half
just have to hold it together until Mathis and Kelsey get back. These games are a mother effer to watch but every win helps.
Team misses Kelce more than any other player although they miss Kendricks playmaking ability on defense.
Front 7 has been really good.. Scary when they get kendrick back
Yeah they played well although they had some coverage lapses in the 2nd half. DL has been the most consistent unit on the team so far
The issue is that as good as the front seven has been, everyone in the secondary not named Malcolm Jenkins or Brandon Boykin has been more than bad enough to compensate.
Only corner who made a play is boykin. I don’t know if boykin stole his lunch money but davis needs to get his head out of his ass and replace fletcher
They are killing me
We’ve seen teams playing worse this early in the season go on to win Super Bowls, no biggie.
The next few weeks on the schedule all look like L’s to me 🙁
Even the bye? Oh shit
Yes they might find a way to possibly lose that as well
Or make it close.
They are gutting this shit out, will be good for later hopefully. But still, that secondary, holy moly.
This should’ve been a 55-11 Bears type of game, this team has to be that team. Worries set in .
Funny how you said this only minutes before
“We’ve seen teams playing worse this early in the season go on to win Super Bowls, no biggie.”
I’m bipolar, duh you’re pointing it out. There are good and bad things as I go through the game in my mind. Things have been worse for teams that won, we’ve played better when we got a big lead, that was a historic collapse. Worries are there, but things can change down the stretch.
Plus the secondary sucks ass so bad, they should take people off the street to have a better chance.
This team, NEEDS to be THAT team in December.. NOW, we just have to find a way to win games…
…
But we have TONS to work on… Doubt we will see complacency.
“TONS to work on….” like Foles not passing off his back leg?
FOles entire mechanics are off… It’s not rocket science. We have seen this kid be an accurate sñiper in the past. We know he is Capable of throwing with crazy precision…when we see innacurate FOles, that just means he isn’t throwing with proper mechanics…IMO, that happens when you don’t trust your line, when you been catching a beating… Possibly still too sore to be able to take hits like he normally does when he stands in the pocket delivering with the defender closing down on him for a big hit he knows is coming….
….
Nick can work on his mechanics all he wants, but he knows how to be accurate.. But we won’t see accurate FOles until he trusts his protection when the live bullets fly… Even if the OL plays great, which it didn’t.. He has to trust his protection..when he dpesmt, his mechanics will go out of WACK…
…
It sucks, but not insurmountable.. WE just have to deal with more growing pains than people would like to deal with…
..
Don’t think its logical to expect Nick n shady to be able to play at the level they played behind the best OL in franchise history last year…. Lose Mathis and KELCE, you are going yo have to account for those losses…
…just keep winning, get healthy, stay a float, and hit our stride when we need to, late in the season when we get our horses back.. Nov 10 isn’t that far away…
…
big important game against Giants coming up!
Yep, just like the Ducks this team depends on the OL for the playoffs. No OL, then no playoffs.
yeah but against a good team he tossed like 4 picks today. Instead of the sack he’s just tossing balls in the air of his back leg. I don’t understand that at all.
If he’s scared to get hit he shouldn’t be in the game.
A home NFC win, still better than last year’s start. There, I said some positive things.
Alex Henery missed 50 yard field goal to win, by a mile. Bills made 58 yard field goal twenty seconds later to win instead.
Damn, talk about falling fast.
I don’t miss that…
One Foles fumble and we’re talking about a blow out win and big game next week. Now things seem reeling.
“It’s always sunny in Philadelphia”… Going to be a fun week..,
Two positives:
1) We won.
2) The team has no excuse to be complacent this week.
silver lining
Yep… I decided not to list the Thousand negatives…
1(a) We held the mighty Rams to a lower score than Dallas did.
They had like 14pts off foles turnovers
Foles “slide” was some Embarressing shit… He can’t be doing that. He has to be able to be smarter than Vixk for crying out loud.. I know he has it between his ears… Stop that “VICK ish”
Vick is a much more accomplished QB than Foles is. Easy with the insults.
Insults? How is anything stated above, inaccurate? Lol
sarcasm
It’s an unnecessary slight. Furthermore, sliding and fumbling has little to do with intelligence. It’s more about situational awareness and having good instincts.
A.K.A. (football) intelligence.
At turnovering the ball at a ridiculous clip as a starter the past few years, yes Vick absolutely was great at that. He averaged over 2/game in ’12 & ’13.
I truly hope Foles has the better career, and I am definitely thankful he won the QB battle, but let’s not kid ourselves here. He’s not as accomplished as Vick was. When he takes an inept, talent deficient offense all the way to the NFC Championship game, then maybe we can have a discussion (or does something close to that level).
Foles has like 6 turnovers in 5 games – that’s a glass house argument if i’ve ever seen one.
Try 8 (5 INTs, 3 lost fumbles) and if you count FF as you should it is now 9.
on pace for 24 through 15 games? All hat 27-2. Gotta think about the qb question – he just does’t look good (TOs aside).
Should have been an easy downhill game. You gotta also wonder if you keep mccoy at $10m a year.
I have no problem with the slide itself, since he always looks like a giraffe that has suddenly forgotten how to walk when he slides, but ffs protect the damn ball with both hands and don’t be so casual about it. If you’re going to slide sideways, as he does, you have no excuse not to put both hands on the ball to secure it.
Dude,,, it wasn’t that far off of his buddy’s “butt fumble”… It was bad lol
yeah untouched slide fumble. It was like RGIII.
To me this game was about the 3 turnovers that the Eagles had and not one of them was on a great play the Rams’ defense made. Eagles win a laughter this week without them.
Kelly says time and time again that he doesn’t care about time of possession but about maximizing the number of times the Eagles get the ball & drive efficiency.
They turn the ball over 3 times next week and they’ll lose for sure. That and the continued red zone struggles. Need to start putting up some more TDs.
This team reminds me of a movie by some actor.you all may have heard of….The Good the bad and the ugly.
And this secondary reminds me of that same actor’s performance with the empty chair at the Republican Convention in 2012: confused and misguided.
LMAO or Led Zep Dazed and Confused
Or “The Song Remains the Same.” “Good Times Bad Times.” “Communication Breakdown.” “No (4th) Quarter.” “When the Levee Breaks.” “Scramble On?”
hahaha Scramble on
Austin Davis: 29/49, 375 yards, 3 TDs, 0 INTs
I’m just going to stream any QB that plays against us in fantasy.
This was actually the opposite of what happened between the Rams and the Cowboys
One good thing too was cutting down the penalties this week although Cooper had 2 really stupid motion penalties.
If they could cut back on the self inflicted stupid mistakes, they’d be destroying the opposition.
I’m throwing a partial parade down Broad Street if the Eagles win next week and are 5-1 at the bye.
Getting drunk by yourself and stumbling down broad street doesn’t really count as a parade, but I say go for it!
I do that anyway! So why not???
“We’re going streaking! Snoop! Snoop a loop! Bring your green hat”
BIG GAME NEXT WEEK! Normally I would really care much about the difference between 5-1 and 4-2, but because we face a Rival that is doing well in the standings, this game becomes HUGE….and it’s going to be a closely fought battle..
…
Great test for us… It won’t be pretty, but if we can get up for a rival THATS playing well, stumbling into our much needed bye week it will be big time, especially for our growth….
.,,
Doesn’t have to be pretty, just find a way to overcome everything…and when we hit our stride, thes closely fought battles will pay off in terms of experience…. We didn’t have these wins In our back pocket during the dogfight saints game…. Winning like this sucks…but it can pay off
Going to be an exciting lead up, can’t wait.
Few other quick points:
– Screen game has blown up and dried away without Kelce and to a lesser degree Mathis. If Molk struggles again so much next week, I wonder if he gets pulled.
– I was glad to see Sproles get a few more carries this week and it paid some real dividends in the 2nd half. McCoy just waiting for a hole to develop on the inside runs that isn’t there. He did a bit of a better job of taking the 3 or 4 yard gain though a bit later in the game.
– Johnson looked really rusty but that was to be expected. I don’t expect he’ll really get back up to speed until after the bye.
– This team’s skill players aren’t as good as people think they are especially with Celek continued subpar play. Teams simply don’t have to worry about Cooper or Matthews deep and Ertz continues to be erratic.
– Barwin and Ryans continue to be the most consistent performers on defense so far. Neither one has had a horrible game so far this year and their steady presence really helps although Ryans seems a bit slow this year especially in the 2nd half of games.
– Allen continues to looked ‘dazed and confused’ and out of position on way too many plays.
One other things – is Herremans ever going to play a good and consistent game this year where he blocks well in the run/pass game.
He continues to be a real zero each week and the Eagles really need a lot more out of him including much more consistency.
Wish we could pull Molk… No idea what Wade smith can provide, and if he has the condition ing to play fast…but I despise Molk.. I miss vanndervelde
Maclin with 4 TDs in 5 games, emerging as a No. 1 WR.
Yeah… He is official!
Man, after all this shit, we are a yard away from being 5-0 Still, being intact down the stretch for nov/dec will be the really important time
GE:
Would you mind giving me the low down on Didinger’s post-game remarks?
When that show’s over.
I can tell you he said the corners are horrible, and they should change at least one, it wouldn’t make it any worse. It’s worrisome they let this slip away even though they did win. That’s some of what I heard wasn’t totally listening, but he tore the shit out of the corners.
The only idea he shot down was putting Boykins outside especially today against too WRs who were 6’4′
BC1968:
thank you.
No problem, plus yeah, I did hear some of what BobSmith said below, a lot of people were asking about Boykins. There’s another corner, fuck I should know his name, that they were talking about, not Boykin. Carrol or something? Some fan I am lol..anyways…I’m sure GE will have more for ya.
What a weird game.. I look at the game our defense had. and so much in the front 7 was amazing, yet so much in the back end was horrendous..
…
Tho we also probably have to account for human nature letdown that you often seen when you been up by a lot all game.. I want to rip the corners and Nate..but im also sure that they are playing different with a lead lIke that, playing that scared prevent style off when you just don’t want to give Up the big play when you have a lead like we have….
…
When it mattered they did buckle down and play tight enough to make the QB not be able to throw any completions in crunch time…
…
Just like FOles had a rough game, but when it mattered most, like the drive right before halftime, he steps up and gets the job done…
…
Plenty to work on, a lot of good, plenty of bad….very important week coming up
very impt week
Play calling wasn’t great either especially in the 2nd half and it seem this week yet again the Eagles tried to force the ball deep a few times too many.
Philip Rivers is really good. Ever since Mike McCoy became his coach…
Heh, jinxed him…
I love having Chip as our coach, but I think it is a very legitimate argument on who has been the better coach so far for their respective teams. I don’t know if either of them has the same success if they were to swap teams, but I know a lot of people wanted Mike McCoy when we were looking for our head coach.
So, have the Lions canned Henery yet? The Lions’ blogs sound like the Eagles’ blogs last year…
that was hilarious. He’s going to be out of the league after this week. Especially when carpenter hit a 58yarder right after.
I actually wanted Carpenter last year. Too bad he resigned with the awful Bills.
that’s ok i can live with parkey.
Kind of feel for the guy. Don’t want to see someone personally fail in life at their profession, it’s their living, he has a family. I wouldn’t take too much pleasure in that manner. If it’s the Cowboys who are getting pummeled that logic goes out the window for me but really, I’m glad he’s not here, I feel bad he’s failing. Geez my feels meds are taking over my body
I told myself i was going to stay positive b/c the defense played well and i wasn’t going to focus on critiques until later in the week. But damn, we almost got beat by the Rams and their 3rd string QB. And if the D doesn’t give us 14 points, it’s an L.
Foles can’t throw downhill. McCoy is finding out how hard it is to be the best Rb in the league. Offense generally looks terrible and I feel like without the scheme we can’t move the ball – -which means our players aren’t that good.
Great win 4-1 kept pace with Dallas but it’s hard to be really happy with the win.
Dude on Fox, our local guy former Defensive lineman Darwin Walker, made a great point, this defense is used to fighting to get the other team off the field int the second half so they can get their offense the ball back. Now they are in position defending a lead as the offense keeps giving the balll back in the 2nd half, whether fumble, punt etc. It takes a toll when you have to deal with all this shit. So you’re tiredness is easier to spot in the second half when you’re trying to hang on. I try and help out here repeating things I hear, forgive me sometimes it’s all jumbled cause my memory. I’m 47 and years of drinking in the 90’s and early 2000’s takes it’s toll on my withering brain cells. Still withering but I try vitamin c. Any ideas if there’s Dr’s out there? LOL
Makes sense. This defense like the early 2000’s, is setup up on been aggressive and getting after the CB, not just setting back playing passive.
Its really the same with the offense. I really hope both Kelly and Davis learns that this team is not setup to grind out a victory, but just keep the peddle to the metal. Keep trying to score on offense with tempo and keep blitzing. Seems we allow more points when we try to prevent scoring over when we blitz the hell out of other teams
I made the argument that our problems with the pass D last year had more to do with lack of pressure.pass rush than because of bad coverage.
I retract that argument.
Coverage is horrific. Just in time for Halloween. A few missed on that last drive we could be singing a whole different tune.
Austin was just hucking stuff up on the last few drives and they kept finding hands. There was usually one, sometimes two defenders in the area, but all his desperation throws were falling.
I will give him some credit in that he adjusted from the first half and started stepping up in the pocket instead of bailing out, but he was just winging it for most of that comeback rally. We should have been able to pick something off.
Another problem was the Eagles stop blitzing (funny how we stopped them when we blitzted again?) and that allowed him to either scramble or just dump it off to the RB with zero players in 10 yards radius.
Also our CBs except for Boykin suck at getting their heads around. We could have had 2-3 ints instead of TDs if the CBs could turn their heads
Its strange how this team can never put together a, b, and c at the same time. We get a little a and b, or b and c, and sometimes a and c, but that’s what separates us from a team like the Seahawks (who don’t always look like the same team as last year).
I’m seeing a lot of fairly good coverage/positioning, and good rush, but guys either aren’t getting their heads around or not contesting the catch.
Other times, Fletcher gets beat, but contests the catch and comes away with a breakup.
