Appreciating Connor Barwin

Posted: November 15th, 2014 | Author: | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 148 Comments »

From Chuck Bednarik to Bill Bergey. From Seth Joyner to William Thomas. From Jeremiah Trotter to…Connor Barwin? The Eagles have had a lot of great LBs over the years. I never expected to mention Barwin with those names, but the way he’s playing this year is something else.

I wrote a piece for BGN on Barwin’s season and compared him to Jason Babin. As I said in the piece, Barwin is the anti-Babin. He’s having great individual success, but within the framework of a good defense and in the middle of a winning season. Not to mention, people actually like Barwin. Babin isn’t exactly a beloved figure.

Barwin is on pace to have 19 sacks this year. Clearly, that is a long shot to actually happen. Barwin has had some great games, but he isn’t an explosive pass rusher. He’s not just going to take over many games. Barwin needs the right circumstances to succeed.  It is shocking to see him at 10.5 sacks in only 9 games, but that is a really tough pace to sustain.

While he’s not explosive, Barwin is a good athlete. He’s also smart and is a great effort rusher. One of the reasons that Barwin is thriving this year is that Bill Davis is using him creatively. Davis has Barwin and Trent Cole moving around a lot. They will play OLB, ILB, DE and DT. They rush from the right and left. Both will drop into coverage and Barwin was used as a spy vs Cam Newton on Monday night.

I don’t want to make Barwin out to be JJ Watt or something like that. He’s not. But I do hope people appreciate just how well Barwin is playing this year. And this isn’t a complete anomaly. Barwin hnad 11.5 sacks in 2011. That means that 2 of the last 4 years he has been in double digits. Barwin also is very good at batting passes.

And here is a little something for the ladies out there who can’t get enough of Barwin or rookie NT Beau Allen.

Sweet, huh?

Like Carlos Emmons, but with more. Additionally, as well as his 10.5 sacks, he lined up inside Curry earlier in the season, when Vinnie had missed the call and failed to re-adjust, resulting in a sack for #75.

Barwin is great, all of our ex-Bearcats are great, and I mean really great. Are there any other Bearcats in this league that would of topped the four we have? Maybe the Kelce?

  7. 7 Media Mike said at 6:57 AM on November 15th, 2014:

“Replacing” a real pro Carlos Emmons with a fake-intelligent bow tie wearing dolt like Dhani Jones was upsetting…………………. and a possible reason we had so many issues tackling in the Super Bowl.

Not as good in coverage. Emmons is the best Eagles LB in coverage since I have been old enough to follow the team. Better than Joyner too.

Also is somewhat reflective though of the caliber of LBs they have had since Gang Green (Evans, Joyner, W. Thomas) at their heyday in the early 90s. Been a lot of mediocrity and downright cr@p with a few exceptions or a couple of seasons (Romanowski).

Barwin crushed Cam but I came away thinking those sacks said more about the Panthers than they did about Barwin. He seems to get sacks in bunches against bad teams it’ll be interesting to see what the pass rush looks like against AR. It’d be great if they played this week like they did last week so we can finally have something to rest our expectations on.

All of those sack of Cam tell me that Cam, and his entire style of playing / carrying hiimself, sucks.

Is the Packer’s line good? I’m under the impression that since they have Rodgers be makes the whole O look better. Take him away and the Packer’s are a shell of what they are with him.

  14. 14 GEAGLE said at 10:40 AM on November 16th, 2014:

They aren’t bad OLine, but they arent ELITE OL either. I would expect our front 7 to out play them.
    .l
Our main advantages are off the edge. Our ferocious OLBs should have a big game against Tackles Bulaga and Bahktiri (however you spell his name)… Brandon Graham had a big game in college against Bulaga, beat him for 2 sacks..

The strength of the OL are the veteran guards Sitton and TJ Lang. Really solid Guards, but both are playing Thru ankle and toe issues….these are quality Guards, but there is no reason Fletcher Cox and Cedrick Thornton should fear anyone.. I’ll take our DL aganst any OL…

They have a rookie center, who is playing well, but with all the different ways we line up, and all the twists, stunts and loops, I’m sure we will confuse this young center at times, and have opportunities for big plays.

  15. 15 T_S_O_P said at 12:48 PM on November 15th, 2014:

The way Barwin tossed their guard to the ground on one of those sacks was very impressive. He moved him like he was on overmatched 3rd down scatback!

  18. 18 GermanEagle said at 9:12 AM on November 15th, 2014:

Don’t worry, we don’t piss away team captains as fast as fans think. Leadership matters, you enjoying our awesome culture? That doesn’t Happen if you piss on our team captains before they prove that they can’t play anymore

  20. 20 Dominik said at 1:05 PM on November 15th, 2014:

Oh, don’t worry about him, mate. One of the finest contracts Howie has written in the last few years, imho. The contract is managable until 2018 (he’s 32 then, but if he keeps on being this good, you can even let the cap number of 9,5m happen, it’s not like Coles 11.6m next year).

But: there is no (with no, I mean zero) guaranteed money in it after this year. This means Barwin is under contract long term, without guaranteed money and without a totally ballooning contract.

Howie has all the leverage. Barwin could hold out, of course, but why should he? He’s under contract for three more years. That’s a battle he won’t seek, imho.

Now, because he’s playing so good and because he’s such a great leader, there will be an extension, you have to think. But it will be on Howies terms. And with that I mean that he will be signed until 2018 or more, with guaranteed money in ’15 and ’16 (that’s what Barwin wants), but a lower cap hit (because that’s what Howie wants).

Just look at this beauty: http://overthecap.com/player/connor-barwin/875/

Jason Fitzgerald (from OTC) likes to say: a good contract is a gift that keeps on giving. That’s a case of that, imho.

  21. 21 Media Mike said at 6:56 AM on November 15th, 2014:

In addition to Barwin being a great football player, the guy is out there trying to make the world a better place in his free time.

Those of us that are Sirius NFL fans got a preview of what an awesome addition Barwin was via Pat Kirwan and Tim Ryan (prior to leaving Sirius to work the the 40-whiners full time) totally pumping that guy up and the Eagles signing of him.

    Great addition and team player.

  22. 22 knighn said at 7:43 AM on November 15th, 2014:

It’s all connected. Malcolm Jenkins gives this defense a lot more flexibility because Billy D can trust him to cover and not be Patrick Chung.
The D-line is playing better with more time in the 3-4. Cox, Logan, Thornton don’t get the credit they deserve. Beau Allen and Brandon Bair are improvements over what they had last year. Vinny Curry is even better this year. Nolan Carroll is also a BIG improvement in depth and gives them added flexibility.
And who knows what kind of impact the Eagles Top Secret diet, sleep and training regimen has had on the players?
It all adds up to give the Eagles a better defense and allows the rushers to get sacks!

  23. 23 Media Mike said at 7:52 AM on November 15th, 2014:

And not to get ahead of things, but this coming off-season is going to be telling. Does Cole take a pay cut or do we cut him? Is Graham back? Is Curry back? How do they upgrade both starters at corner (Cary’s salary is nonsense for 2015 and Fletcher’s contract is up)? How do they upgrade the 2nd safety position?

  28. 28 GEAGLE said at 8:21 PM on November 15th, 2014:

Thinking BG will absolutely get extended. I expect COle to be renegotiated. We value him, we could use 4 Quality OLBs and I don’t see some other team being willing to pay Cole drastically more than how we value him. Because it’s not like we view him as chopped liver, I’m sure we will try to make it work at the very least, he is close to having a chance at retiring as an eagle, and I’m sure contending year in and year out with Chip to close out his career is appealing. He has made money, and he has hunting shows and other business ventures outside of football. The guy is in his 30s, who is going to offer him so much that he would leave us?….

BG would shock me if he was on another team next year, COLE is the bigger question mark in my mind, but I do think having all 4 next year and throwing two waves of OLBs at teams is our best case scenario, hopefully we can make it work.

the Curry situation is the big mystery. FORTUNATELY, he is under contract for ATleast 1 more year..

  32. 32 Mitchell said at 11:00 AM on November 15th, 2014:

We talk about getting an explosive pass rusher but if we are getting sacks due to scheme rather than individual talent, does it tone down the need for a high priced OLB? We are second in sacks this year so far. Some will argue that with a high tier OLB we would be first but maybe we can put resources elsewhere. Idk just a thought.

  33. 33 GEAGLE said at 12:09 PM on November 15th, 2014:

It’s not really scheme THATS causing the pressure, it’s more of a case of our 4 pass rushers, rushiñg as a unit. We don’t have that guy who we łet do whatever he wants just so he can beat his man and get the sack… We strategically have our 4 pass rushers, rushiñg together, we try to avoid our outside rushers getting behind the QB, we want our edge rushers on the side of him, while our two interior rushers take away his ability to step up in the pocket. It’s a very Discaplined cohesive pass rush THATS causing QBs problem. When all 4 guys are Discaplined in their rush, the first guy usually doesn’t get the QB, but he chases him into one of our other rushers arms…it’s really not correct to give the guy who is racking up the stats the praise, the entire front 4 together is what’s forcing these sacks, one guy typically ends up getting the credit for the sack…

Of course we also scheme pressure by blitzing. Stunting, looping, and a combination of things, but so does every other team.
    ..
The fact THAT we are racking up sacks isnt the exciting part, the exciting part is we are now generating some pressure with our front 4, where as last year we had to blitz to pressure QBs

Our TEAM PASS RUSH is excellent!

  34. 34 BlindChow said at 12:18 PM on November 15th, 2014:

17 of our sacks this year (more than half) came from two games. In 3 games we didn’t get any sacks at all (including the loss to Arizona). We led the league in sacks in 2011, when the defense was otherwise pretty awful. Unfortunately the totals don’t tell the whole picture.

  35. 35 GEAGLE said at 12:23 PM on November 15th, 2014:

We are better than the Packer’s at both defense and special teams by a fair margain. Our offense is right with them too, right? Why are so many people against us winning tomorrow? Because its Rodgers? Because of Lambeau?

  43. 43 Bert's Bells said at 11:37 AM on November 15th, 2014:

It’s hard to pick against Rodgers, he’s the #1 offensive player in the NFL. The Eagles have already beaten the #1 guy on defense.

  44. 44 GEAGLE said at 12:00 PM on November 15th, 2014:

Yup…when in reality that Pack hasn’t faced anything like us yet… I’ll be damned if I let them bunch us up with the Bums that went into LAMBAEU and got their asses handed to them. Say what you will about Rogers in Lambeau but we are a very different beast then the Bears, vIkings, Jets and Panthers…

They haven’t faced anything like us this year, I’d argue that beating Luck in HIS HOUSE and going on the road to San fran with 3 interior lineman who neverp.played before is a tougher challenge then getting into a shoutout with Rogers… Shit, we are built for shoot outs…bring it!

  45. 45 GEAGLE said at 11:33 AM on November 16th, 2014:

1st ranked Special teams vs. 15th ranked ST aka Elite vs. Average. We need that to materialize tomorrow and for our Elite special teams to make plays and do their part on the road against 15tg ranked special team, which is practically the definition of average…. We can’t just be elite vs. Average on paper…our boys need to BRING IT tomorrow and make plays to reflect THAT ADVANTAGE. …maybe they don’t score TDs for us this week, but at the very least they should give Sanchez some short fields to work with while always forcing GB to go the length of the field….but this sure would be a great week for one of those BIGTIME ST plays….. But at the very least it should do its part giving us a nice advantage in the field position battle, which should come in handy in a shoutout.
    .
This Defense is absolutely better then theirs….OLBs IMO have a nice advantage against the GB Tackles, and our defense lines up in so many different fronts, using all types of stunts, loops twists, that we should cause the rookie center into a few mistakes that we can hopefully turn into big hits on Rogers….pre snap disguise is CRUCIAL this week, if Rogers knows what we are doing, he will shred us.. So it becomes very important that we disguise everything, and Casey Mathews needs to step up and play the “cat n Mouse” battle against Rogers. very important that our defense doesn’t let Rogers force us into tipping our hand. Gotta disguise everything, and throw all types of different fronts against Rogers, if Rogers doesn’t know exactky what we are doing, there is a good chance is rookie center will make a mistake..

  46. 46 Mitchell said at 11:15 AM on November 15th, 2014:

Speaking of Beau Allen: I can’t believe how much a 7th rounder has contributed this year! I see him on the field often and I feel a sense of comfort and satisfaction when there is a couple 320+ boys in the middle.

Darren Sproles might be the biggest heist the Eagles have ever pulled off. How that guy was ever allowed to get out of New Orleans I just don’t know. I always knew he was a good player but I didn’t understand just how good until he got here.

Think about this, Buffalo gave up more to get Bryce Brown than we traded to get Darren Sproles.

Sensational job by the Eagles FO this offseason. We just pilfered the Saints roster (revenge for playoff loss?).

Pregame shows are Practically unwatchable this week. Everyone treating us like we are a joke going into Lambeau, no one giving us much of a chance, and that’s exactly how I like it, it’s just hard to hear the disrespect from every single sport show…what I do know is that when two good teams play, and on paper NO ONE gives one of the good teams a chance, good chance that team ends up proving why games arent played on paper.
    ..l
Personally I view this packer team as soft, non battle tested front runners, who aren’t equipped to beat us in a rugged, toe to toe battle. Every game they been in, has been over before the 4th quarter. They either blow teams out or they get blown out… I know that the Eagles didn’t let 3 teams blow them out the way the pack did…I also know we been involved in battles all year where we had to claw Nd scratch to win in the 4th quarter…Pack hasn’t been in games like that with the exception of the dolphins…pack ain’t blowing us out, we willl be in their face come the 4th quarter and they are going to have to prove theyhave what it takes to beat this proven BUILT CHIP TOUGH Road warrior Eagles team…
    .
Eagkes win tomorrow, why? Simple. We are the better team, and you can bet we will show up the week where no one is giving us any respect

Take Lambeu over like we did last year! Hostile takeover

  58. 58 BobSmith77 said at 12:30 PM on November 15th, 2014:

Maybe but this offense is going to have to really click and get 1-2 big special teams plays again.

If Rodgers gets even adequate protection, he’ll carve up this mediocre secondary.

  59. 59 GEAGLE said at 12:40 PM on November 15th, 2014:

Nothing mediocre about our secondary these past 4 weeks…heck, they are practically responsible for half our team sacks thanks to their improved play..

I’ll be DAMNED if a Fear a team with WRs who were literally too afraid to throw at Sherman’s so they only used half of the field and got slaughtered because they were soft….I’ll be DAMNED if I ever fear such bitchAssnes… You will NEVER see chip, fear a defense to where he avoids half of the field…This game is going to be a battle, and Id bet we are the tougher, more complete team…

Of course it’s going to take a good game to beat them. If our offense commits a million penalties letting flags kill our tempo, and if we turn the ball over, this won’t be one of those games we can overcomes the turnovers,…but I’m expecting the best offensive line performances of the season, if that holds true, I trust our defense doing better against a rookie center, Takles Buluga and Bakhtiri, then the Packers defense against our offense…..past 4 weeks, packers dense has averaged something like 2.5’sacks per game. Basically
Thor and Peppers each get a sack, and that’s it for the defense for the day…… If we are going to get our run game going and run it down a teams throat, this is the week to do it. Last time we were on the road, we trampled a better Texans dfense with our run game, and I expect our OL with a week of continuity to perform better than it did against the Texans,,,
    ..
We’ll see…. I just feel like we are too well coached, too wll rounded, too tough and battle tested tp where we need to go into any game thinking we won’t win… If Sanchez continues to look how he has as an eagle, then I believe we are the best team in the NFC…and I NEVER feared road games with this team. We been tough on the road since we couldn’t win games at the Link…. We went into Lucks house and won on Monday night, where he has been almost unbeatable…NO REASON, we should fear going on the road against anyone

  60. 60 BobSmith77 said at 12:49 PM on November 15th, 2014:

Safety is still really shaky with Allen and Jenkins whose play has leveled since a hot start.

Still don’t think much of Williams/Fletcher either. Given up big plays by the truckload this season and I would be really surprised if the Packers don’t have at least one long passing play for a TD against this secondary tomorrow especially if Nelson gets in a one-on-one matchup vs Allen or Williams.

Hopefully Boykin/Carroll plays Cobb tough tomorrow because I see that being the key matchup for the Eagles tomorrow.

I would agree though that the Packers are overvalued at home this week at -5.5. Thought it was going to be -2.5 or -3 after the Monday night game last week.

See this game as more of a straight toss up just as the other games the Eagles have played against good teams this year on the road (AZ, Indy, SF).

  61. 61 wee2424 said at 6:32 PM on November 15th, 2014:

Jenkins just really hasnt had those huge game changing INTs but he is still very solid in cover and good against the run. His versatility is a big reason as to why our D has been.doing what it is doing lately.

Hollis Thomas who is one of the few people I like to listen to says Jenkins played so well early in the season, that some opponents have stayed away from throwing at him…makes sense when he has a half a “pigeon” lining up next to him….we might as well stick him on a good WR in man coverage, if teams are going to try and pick on Nate and not throw at Malcolm’s side…

This isn’t something I was looking for when watching all the past games, so I can’t speak on it personally, but usually Hollis isnt a blow hard who talks just to talk

Can we even get some type of objective analysis? I do give a crap about analyst opinions if they are just going to act like bias fans….it’s a joke… We have to SMASH the pack to stick it to the national media

We can’t let the entire nation talk about us like we are a joke and go lose….must win this game! Plus I want tne tie breaker over them so we don’t have to go to Lambeau in january

I’ve been thinking for some time that Eagles fans should launch an all out social media blitzkrieg against that effing heathen Skip Bay less. Just seeing that constipated, cowboy loving, knob job giving sour puss of his makes me want to projectile vomit. For that matter, the 20+ year love fest the national media has had with that team from Favre to Rodgers is completely intolerable. If the birds can SOMEHOW get a W I will be in 7th heaven (always from a win) but this game has huge implications for us down the road. Of course, not that it will matter but I’m fully prepared for the fact that if we go up there & steal this one the media will be guaranteed to focus on what went wrong for G.B. & not what Philly did right. That’d be an awesome problem to have though wouldn’t it? GO BIRDS!!!!

Barwin’s season so far has been the 2nd biggest surprise (after what Sproles has done) this season.

I don’t see him getting anywhere close to 19 sacks given his responsibility to drop back in coverage but could see them getting a Pro Bowl nod as an injury replacement.

  72. 72 wee2424 said at 5:43 PM on November 15th, 2014:

I always liked Barwin. He had a very solid year for us last year, the sack numbers just werent there. Did i.think he was going to have more sacks this year? Yes. I thought he would have about 10 for the season. Lol, i.did not think he would have 10.5 by around midway point. Great technician, durable player, seems to be a great person, consumate teamate, always plays hard, and really not one weakness in his game. Great against run, athletic and good in coverage, great at batting balls. Was always pretty solid at rushing passer, but he is really hitting home this year. Wish we had more Barwins.

Weather is going to be the wildcard in this one I think. Tough tough game for us, I think there’s a real chance we lose this one by 2 scores or more.

  81. 81 P_P_K said at 4:46 PM on November 15th, 2014:

I’m going to disagree with you. First, we match up really well against GB on ST and O. There’s every reason to expect our O to put big points on the board, and STs could provide some points and field position. Expect a huge game from Shady, some good return yardage from Sproles, and Pelkey to kick a couple clutch fgs.
While most are picking against the Eagles because of Rodgers and Lambeau, I’ve got to believe the GB players and coaches know they will be in for a battle. Lambeau can be an intimidating place for warm-climate teams and players who aren’t used to a dedicated crowd. The Eagles know how to play cold-weather football and, for cryin’ out loud, they play in front of Philly fans. Those polite mid-Westerners won’t disturb our steel-hearted warriors. AR will play well, he always does, but he will have to work hard for what he gets.

If our front seven can get in Rodger’s face, if our dbs can prevent big passes, and the O performs like we know they can, the Eagles return home 8-2.

Everywhere I turn this week, I’m told we have no chance against this Green Bay team…if that’s how people think off his grw greeam, then Yes it’s FRAUDULENT!! WTF makes them a team we have no chance at beating? WTF have they done this year that we should fear? They played 9 games and 3 times, they got blown thFock out! That means 33% of the time they got embarressed… They are on a 1 game winning streak, I haven’t forgotten that the game before they got blown out of New Orleans…. Either they win blow outs or they got blown out this year,…they only been in one competitive 4th quarter, and that was the Dolphins game, a decent team but one that won’t make the playoffs…yet every single time they faced a potential playoff team, they got blown out. NOT ONE SINGLE Time did they even put up a fight against a playoff team. Seattle, NO, and the Lions beat them by an average of 17 points…. Yet we have had to overcome so much adversity, so many gut check moments where we had to step up, claw and scratch and learn to win these close Battkes…
    ..
I seen the Eagles lose like 3 times in the past 20 games, and fools want to tell me we are getting run out of GB tomorrow? Yeah ok!! Let’s see what these front runners look like when it’s the 4th quarter and they find theselves in a war with a mentally and physically tough team that has learned to win these close games all year
    ..
They don’t have an impressive win like going into ANDREW lucks house,.. Our loss to the Niners was more impressive then half theirs wins. We went cross country with 3 inexperienced lineman lined up next to each other, and fought them tooth and nail to the very end…. NO ONE BLOWS OUT the 2014 Eagles…half the season still to go and these frauds we’re blown out 3 times.
    ,,
They aren’t Hard enough to beat us! show me that they can beat us, because they haven’t beat a team like us all year,,,NO ONE blows us out, 4th quarter, we are always in the game…let’s see how these front runners respond to a tough Eagles team ready to kick their ass in the 4th when they are sucking win and 3 running backs trample their defense!

Can’t wait for our respect tomorrow!!!

Absolutely a tall order. This isn’t a game we win just by showing up. I’m just calling BULLSHIT about GB being this juggernaut that we have no chance at beating which has been the storyline all week… They have the better QB, I say we have the better team. Looking forward to finding out tomorrow… I don’t believe GB is as good as us..for us to be on par with them, then we should have gotten blown at @colts, @niners and @Cardinals.. The way the pack got crushed against playoff teams Seahawks, lions and saints…..NO ONE BLOWS US out and the last team that treated us like we didn’t belong was the Denver Broncos during the 5th game of the chop era…we have been a tough team that has given everyone a battle since that loss to Denver!…

It’s ridiculous to be treated as tho we have no shot this week by a team that was blown out two games ago smh…
    ..
I also like our chances because I don’t view going on the road as a problem for this team, we been road warriors since back when we had that horrible streak of losses at home. I don’t view is as one of those teams that are very different depending on if they are home or away…
    ..
Anxious for tomorrow man… Don’t want to lose this one. Rather lose a letdown game to Titans next week then to lose to this team

We might never lose another game that we commited no turnovers in. Take care of the ball and we win!

@Steve… I’m not trying to come off as if this game ia some kind of cakewalk, this could be one of the toughest ganew on ourrojecyed schedule, but if every where I turn I have to hear people talk like shouldnt even go play the game because they willl kick our ass, THATS FRADULENT! If people are going to act like this is some juggernaut that has had this impressive season, THAT IS FRADULENT!…… I don’t mean to sound like I view this packer team as some walk in the park, carolina team….,but people are taking this to the extremes and GROSSLY OVERESTIMATING this Packer team that hasn’t accomplished Anythng this year. As this elite juggernaut, the packers are FRAUDS… But I do view them as a playoff team, and all playoff teams are to be respected and are capable of beating us on any given Sunday….. But when I told all week that we have no chance, I call bullshit… If GBG beats us today, it will take their best football of the season.

GB has done NOTHING to make an Eagles fan feel like we are going to lose going into this game. We are a well rounded, well coaches, high Charecter, tough, mentally strong TEAM that can give hell to ANYONE.. We are good enough to where as fans we shouldn’t go into any games feeling we can’t win…..especially against a team that was blown out 3 times….no one blows out the Eagles…. Heck, our loss to the Niners, was probabky more impressive than any win the GB packers have this year with the exception of the dolphins game.

This is a great QB., with quality weapons and a solid OL….gotta respect that, but I believe we are head and shoulders better in every other area… I’m Banking on the better team, beating the better QB…. With that said, we are playing against a playoff team, and we can always lose to a team like this….. I would be more worried about this game if it happened in September….this time of year is when we need to get hot and go on a winning streak so I assume we will be ready to kick butt today… Fingers crossed.

If people are going to Overate this good but not great Packer team and act like we don’t belong, then THATS FRADULENT, because there is no reason why anyone should give us no shot when we have an offense that can put up points, a better defense and better special teams…and we aren’t one of those teams that play much different depending on if we are home or the road.
    ..
It’s a winnable game for both teams…..I trust our 53 men, and their character more than a bunch of front runners who allowed themselves to get blown out 33% of the time… The teams that beat the Eagles, had to go thru hell to put us away, we certainly didn’t bend over 3’times like the Packers did

  95. 95 BlindChow said at 9:37 PM on November 15th, 2014:

I think the complaint was more about taking Boykin out of coverage (he was our best cover guy) to have him blitz. It never worked out well. It even resulted in a touchdown on one goal line play.

  97. 97 GEAGLE said at 6:41 PM on November 15th, 2014:

Bad or average teams, would NEVER be able to overcome all the turnovers we committed and still find away to be 7-2 near the top of the NFC at the halfway point. It says a lot about the heart and toughness of this team that the special team and defense would buckle down and pick up the slack for the offense after the turnovers….. Historically, not many teams have been able to turn the ball over like we have, and still manage to become a top team….it really says a lot about this well rounded team..
    ..
If we can still win games committing 1,2 turnovers….then I wholeheartedly believe that we won’t lose another game this season when the offense doesn’t turn it over. I don’t care who we play. If we don’t turn the ball over, we won’t lose!

Problem is our QBs Jets career was known for too many turnovers. I haven’t seen any signs of THAT Sanchez since joining the Eagles. No turnover issues in Camp, no turnover issues in preseason, and so far so good for the regular season…. Of course he will have some turnovers this season, but if he can keep them at a minimum, we can win with him..

packers have a high octane offense, and a crappy defense, 15th ranked special teams wich is definition of average vs. The top ranked ST unit in football…. Sanchez doesn’t want to waste one of his turnovers on this crappy defense, against this explosive offense… If we are going to help Rogers and give him short fields, momentum plays from turnovers. We won’t win this game…
    ..
But there is no reason why mid season, we can’t step up, rally around our backup, and play a clean game taking care of the Rock against this meh defense. I am convinced THIS eagle team won’t lose another game this season in which they didn’t commit any turnovers….. Hopefully tomorrow is one of those games..
    ..
We can do things the easy way, no turnovers…or the hard way, and still find a way to beat a lot of teams, I just don’t think the Packers are one of those teams we can overcome turnovers to beat, so we must play a clean game…

Correct me if I’m wrong please, because I don’t remember, but that’s kind of the point. What we are seeing from this eagle special team isn’t just about KR and PR, it’s everything, from Donne coffin punts. Clutch Parkey snipering field goals from deep, booming kickoffs, coverage units barely letting teams return one to the 30, the crazy punt blocks…Papa Bair getting his hand of a FG….10’years from now, I think I will remember the 2014 Eagles 4 core special team unit… I think I’ll be able to list most of our special team players 10,20 years from.. Personally, I can’t say that about the Bears…when you bring Up that Devin Hester bears special team unit, all that jumps out at me is some of Hesters insane returns…but I can’t name another Bear special team player from that team, and I can’t recall anything special other than HEster from those teams…
    .,,
Darren Sproles has been fantastic, but 10 years from now, I think we will remember more about the 2014 eagles Special Teams unit than just Sproles, or just the #1 ranked PR unit, and #3 ranked KR unit…. I have seen really good special teams play that can be considered a true weapon before, but I don’t remember ever seeing anything like this where we are elite in Practically ever phase of special teams…
    ..
I hope that this becomes the norm going forward under chip, instead of just a one hit wonder Elite special team year like this…
    ..
#1 ranked special team unit vs. packers #15 ranked special teams, basically ELITE vs. Average!… We need our special teams TO show the difference between elite and average tomorrow and make some big plays for us

Cute… but I meant how is it even possible that the finger was so poorly re-attached that it just… fell off… on its own again. Did they use staples and scotch tape?

I found a Babin jersey at Marshalls for $10. Add a peice of duct tape, and I’m happy to have saved $140. It goes well with the $10 Nnamdi jersey.

Cover the second “b”, and part of the “n” and you have yourself a Bair jersey. Same #93 too…

Wish I could watch all the pregame shows at once, so I could see every analysts prediction of our game.. Figure Fox pregame, CBS pregame, ESpn pregame, NFL network pregame…4 different shows, let’s say 17 analyst total, I’d bet no more than like 2 of the 17 analyst pick the Eagles today, IF THAT…
    ..
Hoping these players are aware of the fact that they haven’t gotten a bit of respect from anyone this week…when everyone craps on you, they are the tastiest wins!!! Gotta win this game. Can’t stomach losing a game no one gave us a Chamce of winning.

I’m so jacked up and it’s not even noon yet… Not having this game start at 1 is torture for me. Thankful Tho for Fox fighting to keep this game when the NFL wanted to Flex it to the sunday night game

Ohhh man I’m with you on that one bro I’m ecstatic for this game. Yea fox did us a give favor on not flexing it being that 4:30 is hard enough as it is to wait.

I’ve read a lot of predictions this week and everybody is on Green Bay.. Except for maybe two picks.

This comment has nothing to do with Barwin who is playing great ball but now that they are in their contract years, who looks like the better pro: Brandon Graham or Jason Pierre-Paul?

Our 2 losses this season came on the road against two very good NFC teams in San Fransisco and Arizona.. It cannot happen a third time. Today is the day we make a statement and give it to Rodgers in Lambeau.

All this talk about Rodgers and how unstoppable he is in Lambeau has annoyed me this week. They have to lose at home eventually, right? Why not against the Eagles.

    31-21 Eagles.

  141. 141 GEAGLE said at 11:13 AM on November 16th, 2014:

Last year, GB was the only team to not get a single INT from the safety position..consequently they drafted Clinton Dix in the 1st. ANY TIME we face a team with either youñg or average safeties, I expect to see a lot of zack Ertz attacking the center of the field….to add, I also expect the best OL performance of our season, which should mean a big day for our 3 RBs, and it also means we won’t be stuck having to use Celek as an extra offensive lineman all game, which frees up Ertz and our TEs to attack the safeties….so I’m expecting a good Recieving day for Ertz and maybe even Celek, torturing the safeties and keeping them occupied.

GB has such a lack of talent at ILB that they had to move their best pass rusher inside last game. Think we will see some 2RB attacks with week, sending shady and Sproles out as recievers. f they are lucky enough to have Thor lined up at ILB, he may be able to cover one of them(if he is lucky). But they DONT have a 2nd LB that can run with the other RB…so if the Safeties are occupied with the TE’s, and ATleast 1 of our RBs has a major mismatch, we should have some big plays throwing to shady or Sproles this week. We started seeing them in the backfield last week, I expect them to take it to the next level and weaponize the two back package this week where as last week, we seemed to use it as a decoy to free up WRs a lot.

Calvin Pryor- Probably better than GJ Kinne, though probably not in the personality/work ethic department. I wouldn’t work hard in Oakland, either, for what it’s worth.
