Whipped!

Posted: November 27th, 2014 | Author: | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 360 Comments »

33-10. Dez Bryant and DeMarco Murray combined for fewer yards than LeSean McCoy. The Eagles scored 33 points and ran for 256 yards, but the real star of the show was the Eagles defense. Simply put, they kicked ass. The guys up front talked some smack before the game and they backed it on the field. Fletcher Cox was a beast.

The Eagles are now 9-3 and all alone in 1st place. There is plenty to be thankful for tonight.

More to come.

Not too nervous about Seattle. I fear Denver, New England, and Green Bay more because of who their QBs are. Our secondary collapses against great QBs.

  33. 33 Alistair Middlemiss said at 8:18 PM on November 27th, 2014:

  39. 39 xeynon said at 2:52 AM on November 28th, 2014:

I think you’re overrating them based on how well they played against the Eagles. As the old saying goes, you’re never as good as you look when you win in a blowout, and never as bad as you look when you lose in them. Green Bay is a very good team but away from Lambeau I don’t think they’re nearly as formidable.

  62. 62 GEAGLE said at 8:47 PM on November 27th, 2014:

I said Cox vs. leary was the biggest mismatch in this entire game.
..Doug Free. The pigeon he is, was no match for Barwin…bennie, our 2nd year NTHE punched their second year star center in the mouth, and zAck Martin had his welcome to the NFL moment.

I had us holding Demarco to 50-75 yards rushing

cary Big Game Williams was going to get an INT…. I practically gave you the script before the game brother 😉 cheers!! I waited all year to expose this fraud defense and show that the OL is vastly over rated

    This one taste soooo good!

Seattle and their poor run defense is NEXT…and we will dominate their OL and run game…just watch, this front 7 will grow into a monster by january

I had us combining for 170 yards rushing, wasn’t even close…they finished with like 250

nate Allen was Johnny on the spot, never imagined that one.
    ..
Casey mathews had a solid game

  63. 63 Avery Greene said at 8:50 PM on November 27th, 2014:

Great game by the D, but we will disagree on Williams. Terrible throw by Romo and he was the recipient. Our front 7 killed their line and Romo is prone to mistakes. The gameplan to beat the Cowboys is stop Murray and put the ball in Romo’s hands.

  64. 64 GEAGLE said at 9:06 PM on November 27th, 2014:

That wasn’t Carys only great play….. Even Bradley managed to turn his head a few times and make a play or two…boykin played, well, Jenkins was really solid especially in help coverage..

Casey mathews had a so.id game…Kendricks was a beast…the 3 OLBs all made an impact inspight of tyrone smith being out there…….curry got some, Ced,logan and Cox were elite

  65. 65 Avery Greene said at 9:09 PM on November 27th, 2014:

Our front 7 is legit. I truly think our achilles heel is our CBs. They have to have consistency for me to believe in them.

It’s no issue to get up for the Cowboys or Giants. I have to see it against GB or other teams w/great receivers.

  66. 66 Avery Greene said at 8:50 PM on November 27th, 2014:

And I agree about Seattle, I think we can take advantage of them.

  67. 67 xeynon said at 2:55 AM on November 28th, 2014:

We match up very well with Seattle. Offensively they run the ball well but don’t have great receivers. We’re good at stopping the run and struggle against teams with elite receivers. Defensively they’re not great against the run. We run the ball well. Plus they’re not great on the road and the game is in Philadelphia, 3,000 miles from home for them. I don’t see what people are afraid of, at all.

  68. 68 Henly125 said at 8:57 PM on November 27th, 2014:

You did hit the nail right on the head bro lol we crushed those bums. Zach Martin got KILLED this game. I loved the consistent pressure we were getting from the edge and interior. This was a game we needed to make that statement.

    This team is legit.

I’m pulling for Seattle tonight, that way they come to the Linc next week on a win, I wouldn’t want to play them after a loss. As long as we stay consistent, the sky is the limit for this team.

  69. 69 ian_no_2 said at 8:22 PM on November 27th, 2014:

DeMarco Murray will be back in Philly but the Eagles know they have the ability to neutralize him, while the Boys have no idea what to do about Shady. When they figure it out Kelly will go to another weapon.

86% of the national columnists picked the Boys, thinking home field – Romo – Murray – hot OL. Romo’s back turned out to be the Thursday night disadvantage, and the Eagles made sure they go to him. Nationally the talking heads have to show Chip’s squad some respect now.

  70. 70 Avery Greene said at 8:28 PM on November 27th, 2014:

  71. 71 Red Neck said at 1:09 AM on November 28th, 2014:

  72. 72 ian_no_2 said at 9:37 AM on November 28th, 2014:

  76. 76 Avery Greene said at 8:29 PM on November 27th, 2014:

Tough road. They may lose in Chicago. They will definitely lose to us then the Colts. At best I see them going 2-2 the last 4 games.

  77. 77 Anders said at 8:30 PM on November 27th, 2014:

That still gets them 10-6 and most likely miss the play offs

  78. 78 Avery Greene said at 8:32 PM on November 27th, 2014:

Maybe not. If Seattle goes 10-6 – they make it in. I figure right now the playoffs would be:

    1 – GB
    2 – AZ
    3 – Eagles
    4 – Carolina
    5 – Detroit
6 – Dallas or SF or Seattle

The SF / Seattle game will decide

  79. 79 GEAGLE said at 8:48 PM on November 27th, 2014:

  82. 82 Avery Greene said at 8:45 PM on November 27th, 2014:

    Here’s something to think about.

Everyone was saying that Sanchez would turn the ball over at least once. This is the 2nd game he’s been turnover free in 4 starts.

  83. 83 Media Mike said at 8:46 PM on November 27th, 2014:

Thank Gardner’s scooping skills for that.

But then again, it was Gardner’s whiff non-block that caused the fumble to begin with.

  84. 84 Avery Greene said at 8:48 PM on November 27th, 2014:

Outside of the GB game where everyone sucked, Sanchez has looked legit.

  85. 85 Media Mike said at 8:50 PM on November 27th, 2014:

I mostly agree, but a few red zone decisions today left some points on the field.

He wasn’t Kolb-esque at all, but there is some room for improvement.

  86. 86 Avery Greene said at 8:53 PM on November 27th, 2014:

That’s the whole team. Shady looked good in some parts, but others in the RZ he was not N-S. I think that cost us a couple plays. Sanchez should have went for the 1st on that one series in the 1st. Smith didn’t look good and that’s why he’s a ST. Cooper looked like he messed up something in the beginning of the 2nd half.

There’s a lot of mistakes that led to the issues in the RZ.

  87. 87 Media Mike said at 8:54 PM on November 27th, 2014:

    And yet we’re still 9-3.

  88. 88 Avery Greene said at 8:55 PM on November 27th, 2014:

That’s the beauty of our team!

  89. 89 Bob Scatchard said at 12:17 PM on November 28th, 2014:

The RZ has been a continuing problem this year, in my mind, it looks like chip wants to play “smash mouth” from the 10YD line on in, and we aren’t built for that. I don’t mind doing that when needing a yard or 2 on 2nd down, but we need to get our tight ends more involved inside the 10……

  98. 98 GEAGLE said at 9:01 PM on November 27th, 2014:

Shutting down your opponents run game and making them one dimensional. While implementing your run game,is,how, you win a lot of games in January!
    ..
Next week you will see this front 7 shutdown Marshawn lynch and the seattle run game, while shady runs all over the seahawks. I doubt they can reach 20 points flying cross country and coming into our houses 17-20pts the most they will score.
    ..
We learned first half how hard it is to overcome an injured center, Max Ungar is GONE, done for the season. bennie Logan is going to Dominate his backup center. Seattles Tackles have always been on and off, and their Lt is playing injured needs surgery after the season, COLE and BG are going to whoop him.

Seattle run defense has been up and down this year, occasionally being poor. Couldn’t stop dallas run game. But Mebane is one of the biggest forces against the run in the NFL, he helped mask issues in run defense. Losing him is horrible, Kelce is going to dominate his back Up. Mathis is back to playing at a caveman level, JP was solid, and Garner and Lane are starting to build chemistry next to each other…

We are going to whoop seattle. It won’t be a close game!.. Then we whoop Dallas again!…We just need to stay healthy. If we can stop getting injured, it’s going to be a fun jAnuary

  99. 99 Avery Greene said at 9:07 PM on November 27th, 2014:

This good news. If we beat Seattle we will lock up the division when Dallas loses to Chicago.

BTW – AZ showed the way to beat this team. Get ahead, run the ball, and put the ball in Romo’s hands.

Same gameplan this week. Shutdown Lynch and put the ball in Wilson’s hands. Without that defense, this offense is pedestrian. Play smash mouth in front with that small front of Seattle’s.

Take care of business @home vs. Seattle and we’ve cashed our tiks to the playoffs.

  100. 100 wee2424 said at 9:37 PM on November 27th, 2014:

Game plan is correct, but you also have to worry about Wilson running and extending plays. He is very slippery. We have to be very disciplined and play contain vrs Wilson. I said this the other day, i am much more worried about Lynch then Murray. I thought we could limit Murray, i didnt think we could pretty much shut him down like we did however. Very tough game next week. Much better D then what we went up against today. Will be tough to run ball.

  101. 101 Avery Greene said at 9:50 PM on November 27th, 2014:

I don’t disagree. I especially don’t want Lynch to have a good game so he says yes after every question.

All jokes aside, this will be a tough game. Seattle has their swagger back and look to be poised for a run.

cary big game williams… 1 INT, 3 PBU’s, gotta respect that.

Bradley had some nice moments, managed to turn his head and make a play for once, thought he got away with face guarding, not turning around the one time..gave up a catch but his coverage was solid…him and Jenkins double teamed Dez well on one play…

Pleased with how Casey Mathews stepped up, especially when he is also making all the calls and getting us lined up

Our 3 OLBs were a force today, that’s nothing new……Ced, Logan, Cox is the best 3 man line in football…you might be as good as them, but I can’t say that anyone is BETTER than how those 3 are playing this year.
    …..
Shady and the OL all talked about how today felt like last year running the ball… Well THATS what happens when you get the best LG and the best Center in football back… If backups could open the same holes, and shady could have the same success with Molk and tobin, there would be no reason to pay Kelce and Mathis like 10 mil a year combined…

Eagles OL is damn near healthy right now, and Kelce and mathis knocked all the rust off, they i also are freshers not getting beaten down as much from missing 5 weeks…I’d be very worried about Our run game moving forward if I was the rest of the league

  123. 123 Avery Greene said at 9:23 PM on November 27th, 2014:

This is good news heading into these last couple of weeks. A healthy and productive oline w/3 solid RBs is going to be what we need going into the playoffs.

  124. 124 BobSmith77 said at 9:23 PM on November 27th, 2014:

    C. Williams did except the one dumb penalty and likewise Fletcher except the one bomb to Bryant. Boykins was a blanket and made a few plays including that strip.

Williams and Fletcher are what they are. Average CBs with average talent. I don’t sweat that they make mistakes. Like tonight, I just want them limited.

  126. 126 BobSmith77 said at 9:31 PM on November 27th, 2014:

‘Whipping’ is an appropriate title. Only time this game was close when the Boys recovered the Shady fumble and got stymied at the 4 on two runs. Eagles held them to only a FG, held a 14-3 lead, and never looked back. Without some poor red zone execution in the 2nd half, this would have been a 30+ pt beating.

This might have been the best the Eaglex played defensively from start to finish since 2011 when the dominated the Boys 34-7 at home. Everybody on the defense contributed today and made a play or two. He’ll even Matthews had a sack and a good play in coverage.

Totally wrong on the Boys today and Romo mentally checked of the game in the second half and taking a beating all day. Eagles got pressure on the edge all day and Cox might have had his best game as an Eagles.

Lack of offensive depth really hurt the Boys too. eagles seemed like they doubled Bryant a lot tonight with a lot of safety help when he was deep and the rest of their WRs were non factors. Loved Williams complete lack of effort on preventing the pick and Romo swearing at him on the sideline. Terrible throw but he made no effort to try to break it up either.

Boys had nobody to spell Murray either and whiten had to stay in a lot to help with protection.

Kelly had some great calls today and my favorite was the play to score the 2nd td. Everybody went to the right on what looked like a stretch zone run, Sanchez curled back around after doing a great job selling the fake freezing and getting very lb to go right, and hit Matthews in stride over the middle after he got over the top of the lbs who were out of position.

Just like Reid’s heyday, the Eaglex have a big advantage with their head coach and it really shows.

I’ll definitely take a +53 point differential after three games versus the East.

Though the Washington game looks like an outlier in hindsight, and one that should forever be known as the “game when the Eagles made Kirk Cousins look like a legitimate NFL QB.”

  186. 186 Avery Greene said at 10:07 PM on November 27th, 2014:

Unlike GEAGLE, I’m a bit worried about the game vs. Seattle. Eagles have been incredible against teams with mediocre or poor defenses. Teams with good defenses have given us problems. Like everyone else, looking forward to the game.

  196. 196 Avery Greene said at 10:17 PM on November 27th, 2014:

GEAGLE is the positive spin we need on the Eagles. I like that. We need that. It’s refreshing when you see how down on this team the media is.

That said, this was one of the losses I predicted for this team. This team has won the ultimate prize and they are starting to get their swagger. I’m nervous, but optimistic. Outside of GB, we’ve been close in the other losses. Our defense is physical and our O is legit. We can win this game.

  197. 197 Jarock said at 10:20 PM on November 27th, 2014:

I enjoy GEAGLE’s takes. For a fan of a team located in Negadelphia, he’s a breath of fresh air. I sometimes struggle to take him seriously, but he’s always fun to read.

  198. 198 Avery Greene said at 10:22 PM on November 27th, 2014:

  199. 199 GEAGLE said at 11:36 PM on November 27th, 2014:

It’s not position spin, it’s reality. We are 9-3. Go read all my pregame post before the game started and tell me it’s position be spin….its exactly how the game played out. I practically have yous the script before the game hahahah. Takes a moronic negative fool to not be positive when you are 9 and 3 and overcome some amazing things that bad teams would never be capable of doing. I just knew these defenders would form a top front 7 before people realized it lol

  200. 200 Avery Greene said at 12:04 AM on November 28th, 2014:

I don’t disagree with you much, but I’ve said this before – I don’t like our CBs. They’re inconsistent, average at best, and sometimes not smart.

That said – I always worry about division games and you were right about the trenches. I was on the fence, thinking we could blitz them to get pressure. We didn’t have to.

I think there’s some things they can clean up on both sides of the ball, they seem to be finding their stride. Perfect time for that. If we can cover Williams and Fletcher, we can make a deep run.

  201. 201 On Our Way to the TOP said at 12:02 PM on November 28th, 2014:

That is a fact, Geagle. I actually was discussing your pre-game take with my son and a friend on Wednesday night. You nailed it, no doubt. I also agree with your initial take on the Seahawks game, beginning with the fact that they have to travel across the country to the Linc.

  202. 202 wee2424 said at 10:30 PM on November 27th, 2014:

GEAGLE always says we are goingbto win, and most always says he isnt worried. Wish i had his positivity although it isnt always realistic. Much to worry about. Best D in league, Lynch, QB who can throw and run, and just generally a really good team. There is a reason as to why they are SB champs. The D may not be as amazing as last year, but still a very good team. I cant wait to see Maclin go against Sherman. He torched Peterson earlier in the year.

  203. 203 Mitchell said at 10:37 PM on November 27th, 2014:

  205. 205 wee2424 said at 11:58 PM on November 27th, 2014:

They have something, they won a SB with basicly the same roster. Unfortunetly you dont gave to be a great WR to beat Fletch and Williams. Yes, they can match up with big physical WRs, but its the speedy WRs that kill them. Seattle does have some speed on the outside. Their TE Wilson is a big target with good hands, dont underestimate him, and then of course you have Lynch and Durbin. Russell Wilsons knack of extending plays can buy any WR extra time to get open. Oline is pretty solid to say least. The tricky problem is say its 3rd down and you have everyone covered perfect. Wilson is more then capable of running for a 1st. Do not underestimate that offense at all. It will take a very disciplined and sure tackling defense to win. Fortunetly we are a solid tackling team and we do play with good discipline. As a side note their rookie 2nd round pick Richardson looks pretty good. Fast player that can be effective downfeild and on screens.

I never threw a football, caught q football, ran with a football, but I know the trenches, and I know that’s a major peace of the equation and I love how both our lines match up against Seattle who is playing without its center and NT… Why wouldn’t I think Kelce and bennie Logan can destroy their backup ups? I know how important center Nd my is, and I know if we win those battles it screws up everything for Seattle and I know that Kelce and Logan have major mismatches against Seattle.
    ..
I also know startles OTs were always ok, but they give up pressure. I know the LT playing this injury that needs surgery at the end of the season and I know we have 3olb playing as well as any in the league… I know their WRs are average and it’s not a very potent rushing attack and I know that only a team or two have been able to run on us since last year after the Denver game, and I kno that Seattle can’t pass its way to beating us. Stop their run, and they are very beatable. Especially on the east coast. I also see that Mathis and Kelce are back to their elit selves, so I expect to see us get back to being the best rushing team In the month of December…Eqgles won’t lose a game the rest of the regular season unless some bad injury occurs. I had them at 12-4 all year but now that everything is peaking at the right time, they won’t loae abofner regular season game, sweep the division and finish 13-3 and I’ll take any bet backing that up…. Unless we lose Aomeone ti injuries ..

Sweep the dr division, finish 13-3 and hve playoffs is a brand new season where anyone can get hot

That was my preseason prediction. We beat Indy and Houston, but lost to AZ, so if I’m right we’ll still go at least 12-4. If we win the next two weeks, we’ll go 13-3.

This defense is mad after the GB game, and they want to prove that it was an aberration. Cool with me, because I think we hold Seattle under 20. After that, neither of the division foes will get over 23..I think that gets us a bye.

    4) Paying Boykin?

    5) Graham?

And that’s all before the usual ILB / S / WR issues, along with aging O-line.

I think our ILB situation should be good next year. We had 3 go down for the year, I don’t think there’s a team in the league that would have handled it like us.

IMO – we need to focus on our secondary. S and CB should be replaced, but we have to take it one step at a time.

  222. 222 Jarock said at 10:30 PM on November 27th, 2014:

SF’s done a pretty good job replacing their ILB’s. If we keep Graham and Marcus Smith finally puts it together, we’re somewhere between good and great at LB. Nate’s everyone’s favorite whipping boy, but there just aren’t that many good safeties in the league anymore. We could use upgrades at both Safety and both Corners, but likely I’ll be surprised if we get more than one.

I still think Boykin would be an upgrade over either Cary or Brad at corner, but that’s never going to happen with Billy and Chip in charge.

  223. 223 Avery Greene said at 10:34 PM on November 27th, 2014:

I have a man crush on Boykin. Our interior is good to go, we need to fix the edges and S.

If we get one player a year at CB & S, then the defense improves dramatically. I’m not asking for Dawkins or Brown, just someone who’s consistent.

  224. 224 Jarock said at 10:44 PM on November 27th, 2014:

Brad’s consistent. Consistently mediocre. Cary’s the one who you never know whether he’s going to show up from week to week. One week, he’ll look really good. The next, . . . ugh.

I’m not sure where to look for a solid safety, especially how Billy likes to play his safeties. We need someone who can tackle, play some man, as well as play zone. Those guys are rare. Jenkins has been very good this season, but his tackling is still spotty and his feel in zone isn’t great. He does give us a way to matchup man to man across the board without subbing and he’s been very good in that role. Maybe Watkins grows into the role next season.

  225. 225 Avery Greene said at 10:49 PM on November 27th, 2014:

I’m on the fence of whether they keep Cary. He’s due $6 mill next year (I think) and I don’t think he’s worth that. If he takes a pay cut I’m cool. If not, I think we can go with what we have.

  228. 228 Jarock said at 1:07 PM on November 28th, 2014:

It’s not so much getting beat. You’re absolutely correct. All corners get beat. It’s how they get beat that makes the difference and also how many plays the corner in question makes. Brad, this season has really struggled not only with getting beat deep, but also making plays. If he was even a reasonable playmaker he’d have 4 or 5 picks with all the opportunities he’s had. Instead, he consistently fails to get his head around and has even managed to drop a couple thrown directly to him. Brandon makes plays. Yes, he gets beaten on occasion, but he also makes the QB pay occasionally for throwing his direction. It makes QB’s think twice (unless it’s Colin Kaepernick against Richard Sherman :P)

  231. 231 D3FB said at 12:20 AM on November 28th, 2014:

Bring back Sanchez to compete with Foles. It’s likely a better option for him, since he knows what he can do with the offense, knows what playmakers he will have, knows the coaching staff. Structure the contract for 5 years. Year one 8mil, year 2 12mil, year three to five 16 mil. Opt outs for no cap hit after year one and year two. Have Foles and Sanchez compete, draft a Brandon Bridge or Bryan Bennett to develop.

Pay Mac, Cox, and Kenricks. Let Curry and Boykin play out their contracts before deciding. Restructure Cole, Todd, let Meco and Ryans walk. Let Graham walk. Bring in KJ Wright, and Jaball Sheard. Draft Tyler Sambrailo or Bud Dupree round 1. Sit back, win everything.

Meco and Ryans, because apparently they are two different people in my mind/it’s late. KJ would be an upgrade on Ryans, good in coverage, part of the stout hawks run D, and is an efficient blitzers.

I’d bring back Nate and Fletch. Nate as a hedge against not getting anyone we like in the draft and Wollf not being healthy. Let fletch, watkins, carrol, and a draft pick battle it out for 2 starting spots.

  237. 237 D3FB said at 12:37 AM on November 28th, 2014:

Tampa, Jets, Titans, Skins, Rams, Giants, Texans, Buffalo are the teams desperate for a QB. He’s not going back to NY. Skins are a mess and he knows that. Rams are talented but they probably want a young guy to go with their young core. Titans are kinda just meh. Tampa and Texans are possibilities. Tampa has Lovie who probably prefers a vet. The OC Tedford was the coach at Cal while Sanchez was being recruited so they have some kind of relationship. That’s possible. Maybe Billy O’Brien puts on tape of how he fixed McGloin and that attracts him? I just don’t see any team throwing crazy money at him due to a handful of starts with a talented roster around him.

I don’t think Graham is back. I think he goes for Everson Griffen type money. $8.5 million apy. I’ll pass on that. Graham has missed a dozen TFLs or sacks this year because of his Trex arms. Sheard has played in a 34 in Cleveland and could probably be had for 4-5million apy. I’ll take 95% of the talent at half the price.

Something tells me if he were in as many snaps as Cole he would have a decent amount more sacks the Cole. I have to pay attention more to see how he does in coverage. He is still young however, so if he were to pan out you have a good starter for years to come.

  243. 243 wee2424 said at 1:29 AM on November 28th, 2014:

Lookng at his stats i would say he is less then 95% of the player Graham is or i think he could be capable of being if he were on the feild more. You say he would command half the asking price, there is a reason for that. There is a reason a Civic is half the price of a Benz. Im not saying Graham is a Benz, but i do think he is considerably a better player. As far as him getting to the QB, but not bringing him down i beleive that may just be one of those fluky things going on right now. It would be an issue if he was having this problem for years, but it only has really been this year it has been an issue. As far as the arm comment it doesnt make sense. By not bringing the QB down states that he has already made contact with the QB, therefore his arms were long enough to make contact with the QB. Another thing that doesnt make sense regarding that comment is that Graham has been pretty successful at creating FF by using his arms to swipe the ball out of the QBs hands while the QB is in the pocket.

  244. 244 Media Mike said at 6:48 AM on November 28th, 2014:

Since Fletcher had a good game, I thought I would share this little tidbit. At the 6:40 Mark, Chip is talking about Fletcher, and explaining how they teach the corners NOT to look back for the ball. He says, “…you know the ball is going to be there, keep your eyes on your man and get your hands in his hands.” (paraphrasing).

    http://www.philadelphiaeagles.com/videos/videos/Eagles-Game-Plan-Week-12/da17531a-1574-44e2-9c48-5a349ddb2048

I saw that and thought it was interesting – almost as if chip was talking to all of us who complain about the corners not getting their heads around. Funny how the one big play fletcher gave up today was when he turned his head to look back, though I’m not sure it would have made much of a difference had h played it any differently.

  260. 260 wee2424 said at 12:19 AM on November 28th, 2014:

I wonder if our CBs were more talented would he teach the same concept? The one later in the game would have been a pick if Fletch didnt get beat so badly at first and was looking for the ball. Im not asking it to be funny or bust on Fletch, but i do wonder if the talent level is why they are taught that.

  261. 261 EagleNebula said at 12:30 AM on November 28th, 2014:

It’s actually a good question considering how valuable turn overs are. You would think you coach to take advantage of every opportunity.

  262. 262 Avery Greene said at 12:31 AM on November 28th, 2014:

It’s exactly why they’re taught that. They coach to the talent.

  263. 263 wee2424 said at 12:50 AM on November 28th, 2014:

Thats pretty sad if that is the case. We have to teach our starting corners a different way of playing CB then most HS, college, and NFL corners due to their low talent level. I have absolute faith in Chip when it comes to FA, he hits large majority of time, but i do wonder if he looks at the Fletch and Williams signings differently now. Not that Williams is a world beater, but i really thought Fletch was going to be good for us and that he was going to be better then Williams. You can tell when one corner is better then the other because game in and game out QBs are constantly targeting Fletch.

  264. 264 MaggieMagpie said at 2:03 AM on November 28th, 2014:

Were we watching the same game. The Cowgirlies almost totally stopped targetting Fletcher in the 2nd half. A couple of completions on that side were on Boykin or Jenkins.

  265. 265 wee2424 said at 2:45 AM on November 28th, 2014:

Were you watching any of the other games we have played this season? The comment wasnt just about this game, its pretty much reffering to the past two years he has been an Eagle. Do you dispute the fact he is targeted more then Williams? I can think of two games this year where even the announcers took notice of it and flat out said the QB is targeting Fletcher.

  266. 266 wee2424 said at 2:56 AM on November 28th, 2014:

To add to what i just said, did you notice how the large majority of deep balls were thrown in Fletchers direction? Have you not noticed he has struggled badly on deep balls? The one one the right sideline that he knocked down would not have been thrown if Dez didnt initially blow by Fletch. He had to throw it short due to safety help over the top. The reason he was able to throw it short was because Fletch was burnt and had alot of room to make up. Dez wasnt even running at that point, he was standing there and Fletch had to run at full speed just to get there. He couldnt even afford to turn around. The ball nearly hit him in the back.

  267. 267 A_T_G said at 9:51 AM on November 28th, 2014:

I think that is absolutely at the heart of it, and I think that is fantastic coaching. Remember, they wanted Keenen Allen, but he wanted to go home. Williams was the backup plan. But given the resources, options, and timing that Chip was faced with, he found a way to make them as successful as possible. That is good coaching.

To be clear i fully understand the helmet to helmet calls. Player safety and all, but some of these holding and PI calls have just been down right disgusting recently. It effects the flow of the game and the enjoyment factor of it. Sometimes i wonder if Goodell watches his own product.

Tommy – or anyone, can you do an analysis of the impact the STs have had, especially with regard to field position? Is there a stat or two that measures yards gained or lost on kicks and punts? We all know about the TD’s but what about all the other plays, especially holding the other side to poor field position?

  300. 300 GEAGLE said at 8:12 AM on November 28th, 2014:

Seattle game is going to be the toughest test the rest of the way, but I think it’s very beatable…confident we shut down BEASTMODE, confident we can handle their mediocre WRs…. The deciding factor will be if we can keep wilson in the pocket, not allowing him to run around making something Happen. The Niners game was good experience for facing Wilson. We did well against KAp, but that was the only game this year where our OLBs werent completly dominant at setting the edge, we lost contain a few times against the Niners, we didnt let KAp get outside, but we lost contain against their RBs and let them get out side…. Since the Niners game, our OLB have been elite at setting the edge…

We matchup really well against Seattle in the trenches, we have pretty nice advantages at the KEYSTONE positions, NT and Center…… jason Kelce will out class Mebanes backüp, and Bennie Logan is going to destroy the backüp center with the French name…

You certainly don’t wañt Sanchez testing Sherman too often…. To beat seattle, has to be a similar game plan as yesterday, emphasis on the run game, keep Sanchez on a pitch count under 30 passes….. Playing that way will take advantage of the seattle weakness and give Sanchez his best opportunity to play a clean game…force wilson to beat us from the pocket, shut down the run, don’t let him break contain, keep him in the pocket and we will do well

    Chip vs. Pete….. Can’t Wait!

I also think we are close to that point of the Linc becoming a place were opposing teams just don’t win, especially a seattle team that has struggled traveling east coast… Our pass rush at home is too deadly

  301. 301 oreofestar said at 8:43 AM on November 28th, 2014:

Seahawks don’t have a good offense at all its definitely worse than Dallas’ it’d going to be about how we move the ball on offense and holding on to the ball

  302. 302 GEAGLE said at 9:02 AM on November 28th, 2014:

Sanchez can’t throw 40 times against the Legion of Boom, we will get killed….. but I don’t expect to have problems running the ball. Not with Kelce and Mathis back to the level we saw these last two weeks….

I’m expecting another game where the 3 headed monster rushes for a combined 150 yards,24-32 pass pitch count for Sanchez, half of it off of play action and throwing screens… keep BEASTMODE under 75yards, don’t let Russel out of the pocket, and we should be fine,,,.. Wonder what tips maragos can provide. As amazing as the seattle defense is, teams have been able to run on them. Heck Dallas went into their house and ran all over them, and I think that was even before Mebane got injured…

Here is the thing, from here on out, with our OL and the run game being back to normal, as long as we execute and dont rack up penalties, we are going to wear teams down with our tempo. That’s very REAL

Wonder if we struggled in the ENDZONE came because we had a short field off of turners, instead of being able to drive up the field and into the redzone… When we put together drives, by the time we get to the redzone defenses are huffing and puffing and we take advantage and get in the ENDZONE, like Sanchez run….
    ..
But when defense gets a turnover, and our offense has a short field, by the time we get in the redzone the defense isnt winded because we didn’t go the length of the field, leafing to some redzone struggles.

With our run game back, and our tempo, if we play a clean game, keep the penalties down, and don’t turn the ball over, I don’t think we can lose..
    ..
Our first penalty didn’t come til like the 3rd drive yesterday so we had a few drives to gas them n wear them down early..

  303. 303 Michael Winter Cho said at 2:01 PM on November 28th, 2014:

With our D, it’s not the good runners that scare me, it’s QBs. Wilson is elusive and mobile and we have bad CBs. Our DL is good, but there are games when it’s not that effective (for example, GB). I think Dallas and Seattle will be dangerous when they decide to set their QBs loose and have them play sandlot football.

  304. 304 bsuperfi said at 9:37 AM on November 28th, 2014:

I can’t say I know Seattle personnel that well, but their LBs do worry me. Let’s say you’re right and Shady has some real creases to hit. He still has to make it through the second level to have one of his trademark games (that we need to keep Sanchez on his pitch count). Shady is at his best once he gets through the hole, but the Seattle LBs close pretty freaking fast. There have been games this season where Shady hasn’t been able to make a LB or S miss when coming through the hole or turning the corner.

It looks like Shady and the O Line are rounding back into shape. But it was just the Dallas D we played. The Seahawks are on a whole other level. This game can help us tell the future – if we can establish the run vs. Seattle and keep Sanchez efficient on a low pitch count, we’re golden.

Can’t believe after all the games he started. How pathetic Kapernick is throwing from the pocket. If FOles ever played as bad as one of Kaps bad games, we would have kicked Nick out of Philly by now…say what you will about Nick, but he will never have a 150yard game with like 3 turnovers and no TDs… That would NEVER Hapoen with Nick… Nick rebounds after mistakes and gives his team a chance to win…
    ..
Kapernick is a Joke, all the experience he got and he is still garbage from the pocket. that 49ers team can’t afford another loss if they even want to have a chance at the playoffs… that team is a mess, it’s going to be completely blown up after the year:
    1) Harbaugh….GONE!
    2) Iupati one of the best Guards….GONE,
    3) Vernon Davis made a stink about wanting more money and he is like the worst TE in the NFL this year, he is gone!
    4) Ahmad Brooks, will be waived because of the emergence of Lynch
    5) the emergence of Boreland will get either Navarow or Oatrick Willis waived, if not both
    6) Anquan BOldin will be cut
    ….
Yesterday I felt like since the Niners are getting players back, and they know this is the last year the team will be together I figured they would buckle down, beat seattle last night, and end up going on a playoff run and meeting us in the conference finals….but for this to happen, Niners had to start the turn around yesterday…. 1 more loss and Niners era is OVER

  306. 306 oreofestar said at 8:41 AM on November 28th, 2014:

  307. 307 GEAGLE said at 8:52 AM on November 28th, 2014:

FOles will be the QB of the philadelphia Eagles for years to come, but he will have to beat out Sanchez in training camp, which I don’t expect to be a probablem… FOles is still developing, he will grow and improve at a higher rate than the veteran Sanchez…

Heck as good as Sanchez has played, Without FOles we lost the deep ball element of our offense… Sanchez only throws those intermediate crossing, drag routes… Nick will be much much better than what we say this year…..

And let me tell all the people getting carried away with Sanchez this…..If Sanchez had to play in the injury mess of a situation with no run game that FOles had to play thru, we would have NEVER been able to go 7-2, and we wouldn’t even be talking about Sanchez today….. No way Sanchez could have gone 7-2 without shady and the OL that FOles had to perservere through.

Nick is going to be a top QB, people just need to understand that just because he has insane success early, it doesn’t mean he gets to skip the developmental growing pains, and peaks and valleys of a young QB..
    ..
Sanchez and FOles both probably know that they aren’t going to play 16 games too often….injuries happen, you need two QBs. I wouldn’t be surprised if we manage to keep Sanchez here with Nick for a couple of years..

But you can bet that chips #1 scenario is finding a way to keep both here,…

    ..
Nick had just started getting his long ball timing before he got hurt, Imagine the holes for shady to run thru yesterday if the defense had to honor FOles deep ball

  310. 310 bsuperfi said at 9:32 AM on November 28th, 2014:

There’s one thing I really like that Sanchez does that Nick can’t: he moves and throws so well on roll outs. I love this off of the read option or read option looks, especially because Sanchez is now giving the D some pause that he may actually keep the ball and run. Russell Wilson did this last night to good effect too.

I’m not saying this makes Sanchez a better long term option. It’s just an element in the offense that makes sense, and it’s something Foles isn’t built to do effectively.

  311. 311 bill said at 9:38 AM on November 28th, 2014:

Actually, Foles is quite good throwing on the move – to the extent that there was talk earlier in the season with the middle of the OL brutally struggling that they should incorporate more roll-out plays.

Granted, Foles presented 0 threat as a runner, whereas Sanchez is about 20%. But what happened this game had a lot more to do with the OL mauling it than it did with any threat of Sanchez running.

  312. 312 anon said at 9:40 AM on November 28th, 2014:

you don’t think that keeper had anything to do with the fact that shady broke out for a 40yd td on the next play?

  313. 313 bill said at 9:55 AM on November 28th, 2014:

Not that much. Much more was the fact that the OL was dominating from the opening kickoff. I think the ‘Boys DL was absolutely outclassed, and it showed in the massive lanes the RBs had all day long. Sanchez’s keeper was the result of that, not the cause.

  314. 314 bsuperfi said at 9:42 AM on November 28th, 2014:

I sort of agree. I think Foles (last year) was good at moving around the pocket and keeping his balance and eyes downfield. I don’t see him as a major roll out threat, partially because he’s not a real threat to run forward and partially because he doesn’t have the speed to stretch the play toward the sideline (these are both related, obviously). It’s not so much that Foles can’t throw on the move as that he doesn’t give the offense as much of an advantage as Sanchez when he’s moving.

  315. 315 Avery Greene said at 10:59 AM on November 28th, 2014:

I think what we learn from this is that Chip really does tailor the offense to his personnel.

you mean roll out of the pocket and throw on the run? that’s not nicks game. no deep ball? so what? you see how fast the offense moves with sanchez? how clean it look until we get to the redzone? you think we’re missing the deep ball at all?

  317. 317 bill said at 9:57 AM on November 28th, 2014:

Again, Foles is actually quite good throwing on the roll-out. Running, obviously, he is the bottom 1%. But this meme that Foles bashers have developed is getting shah-like in it’s relation to factual support.

Dallas doesn’t win another game this year. Bear are going to beat them next week. Now that the Bears are eliminated, pressure is gone, and they will win a few games in the spoiler role. dallas defense should really struggle with bears skill positions, and Bears OL is playing better.

Cowboys will get destroyed at the Linc. If our defense was effective yesterday, our D goes up a notch at home where our pass rush is ferocious. Romo was already seeing Ghosts yesterday, diving for the floor before anyone even touched him. Seems scared to take hit, can’t wait to beat on him at home.

@Colts, Dallas on a 3game losing streak, all the talks of DECEMBER collapse being in full swing, doubt the dallas Defense can beat Luck in his house at a time where teams out jockeying for playoff seeding…

@ skins. By this time, the team is fractured, half the locker room quit, déjà Vu for the 10yr in a row, a promising season in the toilet…Cowboys will be too beaten down of a team and the rival skins will take advantage of them, ending the Cowboys season on a 5 game losing streak after an 8-3 start LOL

Sanchez was going at the 15.5 second mark in the Tenn. game….

We are watching the beginning of the Cowboys implosion. When Witten is yelling at coaches and Bryant is yelling at defenders on the sideline, it’s not a good sign for that trash team.

If they lose to Chicago next week, they may not get a win for the rest of the season.

re Cooper and his attitude compared to the team culture, this vine of Matthews TD makes interesting viewing: https://vine.co/v/OnZrxibDjDx

Assuming I am correct that it was Cooper who is lined up at the top of the screen:
    1) nice effort getting open for your QB Coop .. NOT. (though it may be he was a decoy to keep the CB away from Matthews)
    2) good job standing there with your arms in the air rather than helping Matthews with any attempt at blocking. Shows a real commitment to doing exactly what was drawn up and absolutely nothing more.

I think Cooper can play and isn’t a no-talent clown, but between his press interviews, his offseason BS and his occasional lack of effort on the field, his attitude is starting to annoy me.

Edit: I also found the NFL clip, it is definitely Cooper at the top of the screen.

Disclaimer: I am by no means a Cooper apologist, but…

On this play, I think I think his route was designed to draw coverage away from the deep corner, so by throwing out an anchor at about the 10-yard line, he was aiding the play. Cooper probably assumed Matthews was going to score easily, even though the free safety almost got him out of bounds before the pylon.

And, to be fair, you should watch the 59-yard completion to Maclin. Cooper immediately waived Maclin over to his side of the field as Maclin cut across, and he delivered a great block that would have resulted in a touchdown if Scandrick hadn’t recovered and gotten to Maclin from behind.

Now, the nonsense with Sanchez at the in the 4th quarter on the other hand…

judging by the way they played giants last week is it any surprise that we routed them this week?
