Game Preview – SEA at PHI

Posted: December 7th, 2014 | Author: | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 21 Comments »

Big game today. For Seattle, anyway. If you watched the Sunday morning shows, the Eagles stand little chance. Kurt Warner thinks the Eagles won’t get 200 yards of offense. Warren Sapp thinks the Eagles will be held without a TD. Michael Irvin thinks their D will overwhelm Mark Sanchez and the finesse Eagles offense.

Chris Berman did point out that the Eagles average 35.5 points a game with Mark Sanchez as the starter. Keyshawn Johnson made his case for the Eagles, but the overwhelming sentiment is that Seattle will win, possibly in dominant fashion.

I have no problem with people picking against the Eagles. I have no problem with some hype going to Seattle. They’re the defending Super Bowl champs and coming off a pair of impressive wins.

I just hate the lack of context and depth on these shows. No one talked about the Eagles defense, which is coming off its best game. They are second in the NFL in sacks and Seattle gives up a ton of sacks. That’s pretty darn relevant. No one talked about Seattle’s game 3 weeks ago, when KC ran for 192 yards on them and won. Seattle played struggling offenses the last 2 weeks and was dominant. The Eagles are not a struggling offense.

It is either black or white. There is no subtlety.

It took me a long time to write my preview for PE.com because I was so back and forth on this game. None of us will be surprised if Seattle wins. They are red hot right now and have a lot of talent. But I also think there is a good chance the Eagles win this game. Seattle isn’t the same on the road as at home and the Eagles have won 10 in a row at The Linc.

As important as the Eagles winning is, I want the team to play well. I can live with a loss, but I sure as heck don’t want another slopfest like we saw in Green Bay. Win or lose, the Eagles need to look like a playoff team today.

MISC THOUGHTS

* Nate Allen vs Beast Mode. Who wins that matchup?

* Joking aside, Nate has made plays recently. Will be interesting to see if he does that today.

* Seattle has had more penalties than their opponent in 10 straight games. Let’s hope that continues.

* Zach Ertz has at least 1 TD today.

* Riley Cooper could be a key. If he’s going against Tharold Simon, that’s a matchup that Coop should win.

* Going against a tough D, yards will be at a premium. Would be a great time for some good returns from the STs units.

After this game, we will be thanking Andy Reid for the blueprint in exposing Seattles run defense (crazy huh?),, especially without Mebane playing… They are very vulnerable to the run.

Matchups are favorable for Matthews, Seattles Nickle will be out I believe.

We got this! It’s BLACK SUNDAY!

Bennie logan destroys the 3rd string center
    Barwin/BG destroy rookie RT
Cox and Ced outclass Sweezy and Carpenter
lynch will have no where to go because he will run into our defensive lineman all game, Where as our OL will get shady to the second level

Sproles, Jordan should have big Recieving days, Ertz TD down the seam

ST may very well be deciding factor in this game.

The Eagles usually lose this game….the Andy Reid Eagles that is. My heart is telling me we lose but my head is telling me that we are built to destroy this team.

I don’t bet football all that often. I put some money on this one.

It seems to me that Seattle’s rejuvenation came once they finally got a healthy Wagner back into the lineup. Now that Kendricks is playing the best football of his young career I’m not sure it’s a huge deal to consider, but Kendricks and Wagner went 46,47 respectively in the 2012 draft. At the time, I really thought the Eagles were going to take Wagner with that one

Seems like they were rejuvenated after they played struggle offenses like the Niners nd Cardinals… Holding them to 9 points means NOTHING against our Offense

Just as Thorton Melon came out of the stands to perfectly perform the triple lindy, I expect Ertz and Coop to have big games today; they could be the difference.

With the win, maybe this team will finally get some respect.

Windy as hell up in NEPA, what’s the forecast for the game as far as wind? Think this will help us with the short passing game.

big Eagkes win…. We kill them in the ST return game and win the battle of the trenches.

Double digit win today,.. Our defensive line is too good for this seattle OL

If Cooper doesn’t play a positive factor in that matchup, I hope they cut him and sue him for his monies he was paid for.

    Tommy,

Interesting article on MMQB regarding deciphering defenses by Mike Martz. He makes an interesting read on wrinkles he found on Seattle’s defense http://mmqb.si.com/2014/12/02/nfl-mike-martz-adam-gase-mike-mccoy-mike-mccarthy-best-offensive-minds/

I think you have to stop the ground game (wilson included). Make Wilson beat you through the air. I would hate to see the D pounded on by lynch and wilson all game. I can live with Wilson throwing on us.

And in case the Eagles don’t win today, we still can call America’s next top model one of ours.

I’m with Geagle. Eagles should win. Football starts and ends with Oline and Dline. I see eagles having a slight edge on each.

We will have big advantages in the trenches the rest of the regular season, so shame on us if we lose a game…

No matter what happens today, I am thankful for Lurie as I see Colt McCoy has produced exactly zero points for the Washington Snyders, while the crowd chanted for RG III. Then London, not Bradley, Fletcher pointing out the obvious:

Unless Cooper runs in routes or switches to the slot I don’t see him being targeted much. MS doesn’t go deep sideline.
