Dallas Done
Posted: January 11th, 2015 | Author: Tommy Lawlor | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 753 Comments »Re-lax. That was Aaron Rodger’s advice to Packers fans in September and it is now what Eagles fans can do since Dallas has been eliminated. The thought of Tony Romo making it to the Super Bowl, win or lose, is almost too much for the human mind to deal with.
I’ll probably root for the Packers to win from here on out, but we can all relax now and enjoy the games. The one team we all hate has been eliminated.

Just heard Cowboys defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli is expected to become the defensive coordinator in Tampa.
— ProFootballTalk (@ProFootballTalk) January 11, 2015
Interesting. That would pair Marinelli up with his long time buddy Lovie Smith.
Marinelli got more out of this defense than anyone expected.
_
Good, Marinelli was a goddamned wizard getting that kind of performance out of those scrubs.
I’m gonna root for Green Bay too but they’re toast against Seattle next week. Rodgers at 100% would have a hard time winning there, playing like he did today they have no prayer.
And it feels sooooo good.
It really is one of the worst airports in the world.
Oh wait… wrong vowels.
well played
nice shirt
Thank you.
I posted this prematurely last week, but now it feels SOOOO good:
Bwahhaahaaa!
Fuck dallass and enjoy that terrible off season. Karma is a bitch 🙂
The technique of holding was mastered by cowboys line this year. Cant believe they sent 3 linemen to probowl…way overrated O and prob an underrated D
Calling that defense underrated is going to far. Marinelli got everything you could expect and a tiny bit more out of a no-name no-talent defense. That elevated them to mediocre instead of horrible.
Dude Colts looking good. Upset, any one?!
Dude, at some point you have to learn to stop hollering outcomes pre halftime of ever single game. Football DONT work like that
Dude, I know. Trust me, I have seen probably more Football games than you. 😉
The Dallas game was close, and this game – contrary to my believe – looks like another close game. You gotta love post-season football (when the Cowboys lose of course). lol
Colts go up 14-7 on Broncos.
Cuz they were smart to draft Monsta Moncreif
That’s the thing that worries me about Chip. Drafting Huff when there were other WRs that were clear as day better.
Corey Redding for the Colts is having one of the best seasons a non QB 34yr old player has had. Dude is such a beast that doesn’t even get mentioned when the colts come up… Having to replace him sooner or later will suck
…
Sucks to have lost old man Mathis, flying off the edge all jacked on PED’s “for trying to i pregnant his wife with his super sperm” PES, performance enhancing Sperm, awesome excuse Mathis. Lol
…
Colts are like us, they have a quality offense in place, but they still are missing an offensive piece or two..
Wait. Mathis got popped for PEDs?? First I’ve heard or seen that anywhere.
Huh? You haven’t noticed the top pass rusher in the NFL has been missing all year? He was suspended first 4 games for PED test, claimed he was trying to get his wife pregnant, and during the 4game suspension he tore his ACL, which is why Robbert Mathis doesn’t have any sacks for the colts this year
Whoops. Wrong Mathis. Thought you were referring to Evan Mathis, not Robert Mathis. Gotcha.
Oh lol god No
I really wonder if Viagra would fall under the NFL’s substance abuse list.
He was a known commodity for Chip and that did affect his judgement. Im ok with it and personally was very frustrated by Huff but he has BIGtime potential
I see him as a Cobb type next year (hopefully he is even close to his level)
Understandable…still think you give him another year or two. He has shown flashes that he could become very good just made plenty of rookie mistakes this year.
Nightmare over! I seriously can’t stomach to even let my self imagine what media day with Dallas in a Super Bowl would be like. Something like my personal hell I woulld assume, with Jerry looking like the Devil in red tights…
..
All is well in the world, now I can go back to peacefully hating and rooting against every team in the playoffs. Id root for Ties the rest of the way if I could
Imagine if it was Dal vs NE….I don’t know if would be able to watch!
I fell asleep so I couldn’t fully enjoy dallas losing, but not before I got to enjoy, the leading fumbler in the NFL, Demarco Murray, fumble away a 10 point swing… 🙂 slept like a baby after that
This cruel farce of a playoff run finally comes to an end.
I’m not watching the game right now but outside of the one pass to Thomas, it seems like Manning has fallen off severely. I’ve counted him out before though and then he had 50+ TDs in a season.
Serious questions about his arm being shot the last month of the season… What has made him great, his preperation, insisting on taking every Rep, is believed to have worn down his arm.. In one of the recent games, he was said to have not trusted his arm and checked into run plays all night…. Then they said, the bye week has done him well. Not really sure how much I believe you can regain your arm strength with one week rest, but we’ll see
Now I see where young Cody Parkry learned to rock all season, and choke in the clutch… His mentor vinatieri
Come on, Parkey was clutch all season and then faltered when he was injured.
Just jokes.. Love me some Parkey. One of thebest things to come from this year. Found a young stud who can hopefully bring a decade of stability to that position..
..
Wonder how athletic he is, for trick plays, and how his trick onside kicks are?
was surprised no trickery this year from chip kelly
That is great news for us if Marinelli really is leaving Dallas. The Cowboys defense was surprisingly good this year. A coordinator change could cause them to regress dramatically.
Yeah that’s a pretty sucky loss for them…. Two options:
1) promote from within, someone who will keep scheme continuity in place.
2) but I’m sure you can get a better name, Highering someone knew, which means starting over, instead of building on this years defensive overachieving..
..
It’s always fun to see who Jerry will hire
Monte Kiffin gets his old job back?
Yes! He gets my vote
Watch out for Schwartz after the Red hiring.
Now that Dallas lost there’s room on the anyone but NE bus here with me.
Co-signed. Does your name mean “Rob from NE” or does it mean “Rob those good for nothing NE Patriots?”
Both
+ 1
I’d rather just about anyone but NE as well. Only caveat. If Seattle wins, we’ll have to hear about a Seattle dynasty. Barf.
I thought about that, but if seattle wins, it could also force them to lose more players. Every free agent coming off a Super Bowl win seems to get super paid…winning a SUPERBOWL could force them to lose a little more firepower than they are already planning to lose
It also make signing Maxwell much more expensive.
I find Russel Wilson much more likable than Brady
Same for Carrol over Bellicheck
Me too I HATE these teams with an unreasonable passion.
Eagles winning when dallas and new england lose is almost as good as sex lol
I know others have written the exact same words, but –
Mr. Herremans

Win by the ref.. Die by the ref
YES! YES, YES! The TODDfather for the win!!! YES,,
OH thank the maker!!! I was at a girls volleyball tourney all day and saw the Pack losing. Just got home. My work frenemy Cowboys fan would have been unbearable this week, otherwise. The world ending would have been preferred to a Cowboys win.
Oh Luck…
Just his…..Luck? Lol!!!
Luck picked off, giving Broncos opportunity before end of 2nd half.
Peyton’s really lost his fastball. Still a great QB, but clearly doesn’t have a gun anymore. Arm has dropped into the Koy to Ty Detmer area.
Now lets see Garrett leave for Atlanta as rumored, I am fine with Linehan being promoted he doesn’t scare me.
I just don’t want Marrone taking over.
agree
No way Garrett is leaving. He’s got it made. Jerruh loves him.
never say never
Nice avatar 🙂
Does Garret scare u? I can’t even figure out what he does aside from PCs
whats the difference in the way the recent Niners powerhouse team was built, and the way the 49ers were built?
..
1 diffence jumps out at me, kind of relevant to chip kelly…. Niners team was filled with criminals, giys who had been arrested multiple times pre becoming a niner, and arrested during their Niner run…. Yet you never hear about a SEAHAWK getting arrested,,,.. It’s hard enough every year with teams getting decimated by injuries, if you are also losing players due to suspensions, you probably ARENT giving yourself a very good chance
…
Will this choir boy blue, print bring us a championship?? Who knows….should provide some longevity tho as a premier program… I think about all the injuries this year, with lane being suspended for 4 games… Can’t imagine how horrible it woulda e to have lost 3 more key players to suspensions for being a jackass in society,…
..
Now that we have built a strong locker room, will we see chip take fliers on cheap low risk, high reward long shots? Would chip bring a troubled kid like Josh Gordon, on a cheap rookie deal if he could get him for a cheap 6th round pick? Or is their no such a thing as special circumstances, stances, no Charecter tolerence?
…
LURIE and Andy always brought in questionable character guys who needed a second Chance.. So far we saw the first two years of chip building his vision. Interesting to see what this thing looks like after another two years of building, especially now that chip has absolute power. Looked forward to having two seasons worth of Intel to better predict future drafts and free agents, but they through us a major curveball, and we have no way of knowing how different it will be with chip in full control, or will it be business as usual and chip has done everything he wanted all along anyway?
Lurie and Andy did a very good job of bringing in guys who were looking to turn their lives around. I have no problem taking a risk on a guy with a troubled background who wants to change. Not everyone does.
I agree. Sometimes you catch those guys at the right time, when they are at their hungriest, and it pays off for you.. Curious to see who the first questionable Charecter added to a chip Kelly Eagle team will be…
I don’t think he takes anyone He didn’t even take an out of work lagerette blount who i think would have been great for the team from a power running situation.
djax was never an issue with off the field stuff and was a perennial pro bowler.
Djax didn’t fit Kelly’s vision of a perfect WR as well as being a knucklehead. He already gave Blount a second chance back while he was at Oregon. I think he’ll at least consider bringing in someone who isn’t a saint, but the player will have to be not only a great player but one who fits Kelly’s vision.
there’s a lot of crap on the roster with less talent than djax. you think nate allen fits kelly’s vision?
Personality and physical talent, absolutely. Football intelligence . . .
yeah i mean i don’t want to overstate the djax case, i’m just saying that i don’t think we’re close to taking someone with issues.
Braman a choir boy?
Ever see Djax do ANYTHING with a screen pass,go over the middle much or can he block at all? He was a one trick pony, although he is the Best at that 1 trick
You have to also consider that some teams are probably better at making problems disappear . Pete Carroll probably has a lot of practice at it from the USC days.
Luck is such a INT machine in the first half of games
Yes it’s mind boggling.
Mind blowing, even.
Cam Kills his team in crunch time with some AMATUER bonehead mistake, which Nick has NEVER done,, and Cam has over 30 more starts than Nick does and more physical gifts.
…
FACT: THE ONLY Losses Nick has come with either:
A) Nick leaving the field having given us the lead with the defense going on to blow the game
.
B) Led us all the way down into the Redzone inches away from a comeback win…giving us a Chance to win.
….
He has NEVER lost us a game without GETTING IT TOGETHER in the 4th, no matter how bad he played… I promise that MEANS SOMETHING!!!
…
Kid is legit, all he does with chip is win…or give us a chance to win at the end.
..
Not once, has the game ended and any of us were left feeling that Nick FOles has cost us a game… That MEANS SOMETHING!!
..
We have seen chip run his offense with two former experienced top 10 pick veterans in VICK and Sanchez, and they don’t come close to the win ration chip has with Nick FOles, yet sanchez and VICK had years of experience on the young man that a still growing as a QB
..
Shame on those that don’t see it in the young man…..im starting a pool to see how long it takes this dumb FANBASE to realize we are watching our franchise QB already….LOL wonder if the realization that Marriotta is playing for another team will smarten our media up.
get off it. nick has his own problems. cam not perfect but he’s stayed injured with no line and little help at wr. he did battle through they year and stay on the field though…
Every word I posted is fact.. I’ll give a donkey like you Til like 2017 to finally figure out Nick ISNT going anywhere hahahahaha
they spent a 1st on WR and Olsen at tightend is a former 1st.Weapons are probably equal
U got a point with the oline but a mobile QB can cover up some shitty line play
Cam rarely runs anymore — undoubtedly they are using him wrong.
Maclin,Ertz,Sproles,Shady,Matthews, etc. With a top 5-10 O line compares to a rookie, Olsen, Crotchery and arguably the worst O Line in the league?!
yeah GE has some sort of axe to grind with cam, despite his two playoff wins, i don’t really understand why he keeps cam’s name in his mouth when he’s rarely mentioned on here.
1 playoff win
Cuz some bitch came on this site during the panthers game to prematurely blow cam about how he is so much better than FOles. if FOles ever makes the mistake Cam does after 50 starts, I’ll kick him out of this city myself…
..
As long as this is an eagle site, if you want to gloat over another teams QB, as a bitch, you should ATleast know what the fuck you are taking about.. I posted Facts. When has Nick FOles cost the Eagles a game in the 4th quarter? You know how many times Cam made a boneheaded play in the clutch coating his team a game? And he has two season of experience on Nick, and I have to read a bitch eagle fan bash our QB because of some fraud, and you complain that I briBG Cam up? Lol… You wanna respond, respond with some facts or blow me like the bitch you are…muah
Ertz isn’t a starter and neither is sproles, we did NOT have a very good line this year. Matthews is rookie just like Benjamin so thats a wash.
Olsen is better than Celek, Maclin is better than Cotchery. Shady gets SO many negative plays, I think I would like Stewart better, If healthy. Thats said I do love Shady, just the negative plays Really kill us
Cam Newton isn’t that good and he has proven to be somewhat of a choke artist. I would take Foles over Cam personally but I understand your point. The biggest diff between these 2 Offenses is COACHING, not talent
Im a big Foles fan. Hope he comes back healthy next year and we can keep him that way. That said we do need a decent back up. Im ok with 3rd-5th rounder on QB. Maybe even a 2nd if Chipper falls in love.
Your decent backüp you want to draft, probably won’t prove to be the decent back up in his first two seasons, so while I don’t like Barkley, or think much of him, it’s foolish to just assume we are done trying to grow him, because he hasn’t provided any instant gratification the next two years. I don’t mind cutting him and drafting a new kid… I just don’t think giving up on Barkley is the lock that most people seem to think…
…
If you won’t give a QB more than two years, then you are a jackass as a coach for drafting him to begin with
Im not a fan of Barkley but want constant competition at every position. They see him every day in practice so I trust their judgement.
you didn’t watch that minnesota game?
And Peyton just isn’t very good in the playoffs. So strange.
At this point, that has to be considered predictable.
hard to be good when D thomas has stone hands lol
Anybody experiencing a redirection to another website? I haven’t been able to comment on here because I keep getting redirected to another website when I refresh the page.
Nope. Sounds like you have hijackware.
Malware, hijackware, sometimes I think people create these programs just to give them cool names.
Howie hacked the site. He’s got some free time on his hands.
Manning looks done.
This is an article you guys need to read. Strange to say since it’s a La Canfora article.
It’s not about just Roseman, but he figures prominently. Basically that Roseman and other guys with similar titles are essentially Assistant Owners and regardless of title and whether they control personnel they still have a high degree of influence because they have the owner’s ear.
http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/writer/jason-la-canfora/24955052/let-me-introduce-you-to-the-best-job-in-the-nfl-assistant-owner
Greg, thanks for the link. It’s a good read. Describes Howie’s role exactly. Might actually be a good thing for the Eagles.
It will be interesting to see what happens to Murray. AP has made it clear that he’s itching to wear the star.
Look though Boys have 6mil in cap but Melton has a 9mil player option that he will absolutely take which puts them over that cap, if they are making Dez the priority how the hell willthey fit him and a star rb in
I have no idea how Dallas or Washington gets under the cap every year. Voodoo comes to mind.
They renegotiate the contracts so that all players’ salaries are reduced to the minimum and the difference is covered by giving the players a signing bonus that is prorated over the length of their contracts. So their cap hit for that year is reduced but their future cap hits increase. It’s difficult to near impossible for them to cut any underachieving high salary player that they have done this with because if they did so all of that remaining prorated SB would accelerate onto that year’s cap(or the next two years if designated as a June 1st cut).
Should have noted I was being sarcastic. Question is, when will it finally catch up to them hard. Already cost the Cowboys a bunch of defensive players from the previous year. Despite the cuts, they’re in just as bad if not worse cap shape this season.
Murray, Dez, Williams, Frederick, etc. on rookie contracts. Dez and Murray had monster years looking for $$. Getting Sean Lee back will help, but they’re going to have to depend on some rookies next year.
Real question is whether they’ll be able to figure out a way to resign them all. I expect Murray’s gone but Dez they’ll figure out someway to resign. I love Sean Lee, but he just can’t stay healthy. I suspect Dallas will continue to have a no-name defense because they can’t afford to sign anyone. Marinelli being gone will help.
At some point, Romo’s back is going to give out and they’re going to be stuck with a huge cap hit for him with Brandon Weeden at QB.
Sooner the better.
Cut Carr and half of the defense.
You save 500k by cutting Carr
Yes but why do we care? They don’t have anyone else.
I care because I want them to suffer and lose their stars and Carr is practically uncuttable
You are underestimating Jerry.
I guess but if you tag Bryant that puts you 15 over the cap I wanna see how he gets under the cap and finds room or AP or Demarco
Jones will dump him and sign AP.
Yea they ran him into the ground on purpose with plans for AP next year. Murray is good but not great (until he has better body of work)
P. Manning about to drop all-time to 11-13 and add yet another chapter in his suspect & shaky postseason career.
This quote aptly describes Manning and the Broncos so far:
Anton Chigurh: “Would you hold still, please, sir?”
Right before the Colts put the stunning bolt pistol to Manning’s head.
Moncrief. Wtf was that?
Luck putting on a show with no running game.
Yeah he is although it is really hard to think of a comp for him.
A more mobile Phillip Rivers?
Better athlete. Better arm. Not as accurate. Also, not a whiny b!tch.
doesn’t have 7 kids.
Did indy cut RJF?
I think he’s on IR.
Reposted, because the thought of Jerry Jones and Chris Christy as Pinky and the Brain makes me smile.
Jones: you know what we are going to do tomorrow, Christy?
Christy: What, Jerry?
Jones: The same thing we do every election cycle, Christy. Try to take over the world!
Manning should retire. He’d probably immediately be given a John Elway type role with the Titans.
Lol can’t believe the denver player is getting away with this… Wtf
Peyton is not very good in January…
Makes Tony look good. Scary.
2014-15 Romo has been good. I hate to say it, but he’s done everything well. I miss bonehead Romo. Maybe he’ll return next season.
Yeah, I actually congratulated a cousin who’s a Cowboy fan for how well Tony played this year. Glad it didn’t matter 😀
He played his fucking heart out and I respect Romos toughness. Lets see what happens next year, My $ is on them getting over hyped and imploding 🙂 free agency will be very interesting for our division
Cribbs gives Denver life. I don’t know why they signed him. He’s done.
Irsay uses Madden to grade free agents.
Mike Carey’s confirming the call. No surprise, they overturn it. OMG and now Carey’s trying to backtrack.
Indy is lucky.
True, but Carey is AWFUL.
No doubt.
Who did say again Luck cannot make those throws?!
shah18
I am pretty sure Joe Webb can make those! Lol
Shah’s QB analysis: the gift that keeps on giving.
Some would say he’s a troll, but given the amount of time he puts in to composing 2,000 word dissertations on how Andrew Luck lacks the talent to be an elite NFL quarterback but Joe Webb is actually an All-Pro quarterbacking talent, I find it hard to believe. If it’s true, he is the world’s most dedicated troll.
Shah
Luck throws WAY too many picks for a supposedly elite QB.
Can you imagine this board’s reaction if he was the Eagle’s QB? He’d be crucified.
Not always pretty to watch, reminds me of Foles. Plays better with game on the line and the TEAM always feels like they will win with hi in there.
Dude is a winner but he does make it look ugly lol
Nah. Much more mobile and much better footwork.
Well yes I agree on footwork and mobility but I meant more in the sense of playing ugly and finding a way to win.
Re Indy:
just amazing how much of a difference good DBs can make. #CBEnvy
No respect for the deep ball either. Sander’s has beaten them deep a couple times, but Peyton’s inability to connect has led to them sitting on everything short.
Denver fans feeling what we’ve felt for this entire season.
Well see if Del Rio doesn’t start to bring more pressure or if he’ll play the role of Billy Davis.
Poor bastards lol
No pity. Not after the way our season ended.
Im an Eagles fan brother, I always pity us but atlas the Eagles let me down in December and not January.
My fantasy football league (comprised of mostly enemy fans) is named GridIronGloryFoles lol
They did give up a lot for them. I believe they gave MIA a #1 for Davis.
A second
2nd I believe.
No YAC for you!
Five broken tackles on that play to pick up the 1st down. #respect
There is no arm tackling in football!
It was just Laron Landry.
DE did the same thing too.
IMO, Redding was too far from him.
I feel like I took a big green and yellow valium with a G on it. #feelinggood
Vontae Davis just stood there on that 4th down conversion. Had he even been vaguely shifting toward the action he could’ve made the stop. Very AsanteNnamdiDRC-esque…
But, to be fair, he didn’t really want to.
Remember on Hard Knocks when he got traded from the Dolphins to the Colts? His immediate reaction: “I’m gonna call my grandma.” Then his second reaction after being given some courtesy constructive criticism: “What’d y’all trade me for?” Great stuff. (fast-forward to minute 3)
http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-network-hard-knocks/0ap2000000209189/Hard-Knocks-Vontae-Davis-traded-to-Colts
That reaction always struck me as incredibly odd, and I want to dislike him for it, but it seems to b the most appropriate question. You guys don’t want me here, so what is my perceived worth?
Denver’s D either carries them and makes another big play or Denver is done. I can’t believe they didn’t try a single pass play more than 7 yards that drive. Been 1 pass they have attempted more than 12 yards this half.
yeah they spent a lot of $$ on the secondary and pass rushing not doing either today.
No confidence in Manning being able to hit the deep pass. Thus far, he hasn’t gotten close.
Back to back great plays by Denver’s corners. Serious envy for both secondaries.
CBs making plays in one-on-one coverage? What is that?
I didn’t realize CB are allowed to turn around and swat the ball! maybe Billy doesn’t know either….its making me sad thinking about our secondary again
For all of the talk and impact that losing Welker would have on the Pats, you have to chalk up another one in the ‘evil genius’ category for Belicheck. They don’t miss him in the least.
So, Wilson will again get the least amount of credit next weekend. I guess he’s just gonna have to win another title to get some love.
He’s good but so overrated by the media
No fastball. Now Shah, that’s an example of a QB who just can’t make the out pass anymore (Peyton that is).
Tackling by both secondaries have been excellent.
Oh how I need good DBS in Philly
Scanning through the dallas gameday thread, someone wondered what BGN was doing now, just before game. Someone said, “Who cares they’re on vacation.” Another said, “Crying over the bandwagon sketch(if you saw it on fox) that portrayed them perfectly”…….Wow, just wow, Cowboys fans talking about Eagles fans being bandwagoners. Well anyways, I just scan, I’ll enjoy it, don’t troll, just will enjoy reading the game ending comments.
But the funny part, they are thinking about us before their big divisional game against the Packers. Scumbag losers.
Manning is DONE.
I really hope Chip and Howie are paying close attention to those corner backs on that field in Denver. #Time4Change
Prob not gonna happen. Billy Davis is a disciple of Dick Lebeau. Believes in pressure and average corners. Not sure team is willing to spend assets on the position.
We’d have to spend assets to upgrade from where we are now(horrible, pathetic) to reach average.
If we had an average secondary we might be playing today
How about ward being an all pro safety . We should have scooped him up with Jenkins
he’s a strong safety we didn’t want that — also he probably wanted a ring…
Doesn’t fit our scheme. Good player, but would be a slightly improved Patrick Chung for us.
What scheme is that ??? missing tackles and getting beat deep constantly when the game is on the line. Maybe we should adjust our scheme to fit the talent (or lack of talent in 2ndairy)
Anything that keeps late allen off the field is good with me
Not disagreeing, but that’s the way Kelly and co. want it. They want mirrored safeties who can play zone, man, and support the run last. Ward is like Chancellor in that they’re both extra LBs the way they play. I’d rather have talent and adjust the scheme, but Davis and Kelly thus far prioritize the scheme.
Its SO frustrating. We really need help in the backend. Jenkins was OK but some people think he was great because we got used to Jaiquawn Jarrett, Curt Coleman, Late Allen etc…
Truth. Jenkins was mediocre for the last 2/3 of the season. Was better than Nate, but wasn’t close to an all-pro either.
Howie is not allowed to watch football anymore.
No, he can watch. Just can’t have an opinion.
Still hope the Broncos pull this out for one last & final Manning-Brady playoff rematch.
Really don’t see either of these teams having much of a prayer against NE. Denver can’t throw it down the field and Indy has no running game.
Pats didn’t have running game yesterday. unfortunately I agree with u
Raven’s are really similar to us on D in that we both have very good front 7s with suspect secondaries.
Jimmy Smith getting hurt killed the Ravens.
^^^this. Remember when we could have had Jimmy Smith
I live in Baltimore. It took one and a half years of him absolutely sucking and then the light turned on and he got real good, real quick. Still, tons better than Matthews.
Im ok with it taking time to develop talent. Im not OK with being void of talent w/o addressing the position
When the Eagles were a great team we had a great secondary, that is not a coincidence at all
If we don’t get atleast 2 Talented DBs (don’t care how) I will not spend a dime on this team. Didn’t spend any $ 2012 for same reason
Reid and Kelly have the complete opposite view about defense. Reid believes you pass to win and you stop the pass to win. Kelly believes you run and stop the run to win. Both have been successful, but as usual, the truth is somewhere between.
We have Dez (for now) ODB, Djack, garçon ,twice a year.
We need people who can AT LEAST slow them down. We don’t even have that right now
Agreed.
Yep you either get crazy at wr by signing Cobb with Mac or getting Thomas to compete or you get nasty in the secondary
Since we don’t have money wrapped up in the QB position, don’t understand why we don’t take both. Better yet, take Houston who’s the best FA at any position and happens to be one at a position of need for us. Trade for Vjax and sign either McCourty or Thomas. I’d enjoy that off season.
Might work for one season, but we’d be in a bind when Foles throws for 50 TDs and 1 INT next season.
If he does that, we’ll have a Superbowl trophy in the case, so I’ll take it.
Regular season. He’ll take the team to the Super Bowl but throw 2 picks in a loss. Philly fans will want to get rid of the bum.
We could worry about that bridge after crossing it, hopefully while parading through Philly in February 😉
Wouldn’t care because if that happens we win the super bowl
I like this, add in houston just for fun lol
Yeah you can sign McCourty or Maxwell, or Jackson or Revis or whoever and help the secondary or just add Cobb/Thomas I’m good either way lol
He wouldn’t have worked in Philly for sure. Not where a rookie is called a bust after 6 games.
I hope not if the dream team model didn’t work for us it shouldn’t work for them either #salty
Dream team doesnt work when your D coordinator is an online coach who is being disrespected by the D line coach. All the talent in the world doesnt matter when u have that cluster fuck of a situation
Well Del Rio has brought pressure the last 2 drives. Nice protection by his line.
Every play this drive the Colts OL is blowing the Broncos off the ball.
Colts all of a sudden able to run the ball.
Is that some new innovation??
Re: Flashback and Denver
In 1981, the Eagles started 6-0. Best team in the NFL.
Then all of a sudden, key players seemed to get old over night.
Birds made the playoffs but were 1-and-done.
_____________
Watching Denver now, a team led by a guy whose body is older than his age and built around some off-season acquisitions of vets on their last legs, I can’t help but think back to the 1981 Eagles.
The Broncos are old. And I think done.
FWIW, Schefter reporting Peyton tore his quad during Chargers game, has been playing through it.
question for Tommy et al.: how is this allowed? Why does it seem, with some superstars especially, we always hear about injuries after the fact? Didn’t the Rodgers news break late too?
How is this not in violation of the League’s injury reporting rules?
Kelly – you don’t need to snap the ball as quickly as possible at all times.
yeah but you don’t hire him if you want to play ball control.
Dagger. Colts just took it too them that drive and ran the ball down their throats.
Been really impressed by the Colts’ playing call on both sides of the ball all day. Made adjustments defensively after the Broncos first drive and have been betting the better of the adjustments all day long.
Luck may make some head-scratching mistakes.
But I can’t think of another NFL player I’d start a franchise with.
Not even close.
‘Cause the talent around him doesn’t seem to be in the same league any of the other teams that played this weekend.
Nope. He made a real leap this year and it kinds of reminds me of how much Elway was able to do with an overall mediocre Broncos’ teams in the late 80s.
Elway didn’t win those SBs though until the Broncos acquired TD and his ‘Mile High Salute.’ Davis is always one of those overlooked players who people forget who just how good he really was at his prime. Not an all-time great but just so good at so many different things.
Is it me or has Simms really slipped as a color analyst? Just seems like he has made more mistakes/miscues than I can ever remember him making.
Wonder if his vision is as good and if that isn’t causing him some issues.
When was he good?
UGh he’s terrible, and the voice is really friggin annoying.
he was decent. just has made a lot of simple miscues today that I do wonder if they weren’t simply due to vision-issues.
He is the Worst (even worse than Buck and Aikman)
Chicken Parm you taste so good!
Always more of an eggplant parm fan myself especially because most places deep-fry their chicken parm and then douse it in cheese. Just sinks like a rock in your stomach.
Your description of chicken parm made me hungry lol
you can tell this game is really about the trenches. if peyton leaves do they blow up the team?
Peyton should retire at this point. He looks like a shell of himself.
Brady should retire at this point too(hate that guy) and give garrapolo a shot
Hate Brady too, but he still looks pretty good. He’s lost something these past few years, but Peyton really looks like a shadow of the QB he was just last year.
I was JK. My nightmare of Patriots vs Cowboys SB died today so Im in a pretty good mood lol
Blow up the league? I don’t get this comment, explain?
team
Aaaaaagh…they have so many young fee agents the next 2 years they would just have to try and lock them all up and pay Brock is anything good
Losing feeling in my playoffs. This new car smell is terrible after a loss. HMM HHmm Hmm HHmmm 50 omaha set lose..ok just singalong, it’s over for the man.
yea that chicken parm is cooked.
DEN should put in Brock Osweiler just to throw deep passes.
denver getting booed at home. they must have forgot what it was like before peyton
This struggle by the Broncos does not surprise me. All they do is pass, literally. They are too one dimensional and lack talent at the RB position. A recipe for disaster in January.
C.J. Anderson is pretty good.
I agree, but how good can he be when he’s being underused?
Keep running the dude! Especially in the second half!
Sad to see Manning go out like this, if it is the end.
could it be a luck / wilson super bowl?
This would be great
If this were pro wrestling, Manning would look dejected during his press game conference while lamenting and then slowly start to evilly smirk before maniacially laughing while ripping off his Broncos’ jersey to have an old Manning Colts’ t-shirt on underneath.
Manning would then attack his nearest Broncos’ teammate, stun John Fox, and hit Elway with a steal chair while Neckbeard, E. Manning, and A. Manning joining him. A. Manning would triumphantly declaring that the ‘M.W.O.’ (Manning World Order) would destroy all pretenders to the Lombardi Trophy including their arch rival Brady and Belicheck next week while Simms ranting incoherently & Nantz nonchalantly hyping up the Neckbeard-Brady match next weekend.
Then Dungy comes out from behind curtain with his best emperor Palpatine impression
Thank you for that.
Beware the offseason champs on paper. Year after year.
Eagles would be wise not to sign the Ward / Talib / Ware of 2015.
why?
Just rarely works and negatively impacts your ability to build a team when you sign a bunch of high-priced FAs.
One can be selective (Seahawks have done well for themselves with Avril and Bennett, but neither of those guys were considered top tier FAs to my knowledge), but DEN’s wholesale approach to “improve X” in FA just doesn’t usually work.
you think those guys are why they lost? you don’t really have time to build through the draft with a guy like peyton. i don’t think that was the wrong decision, just didn’t work.
Yeah, its a fair point. DEN was in a special situation with Peyton.
That loss had more to do with Peyton’s combination of being playoff Peyton instead of regular season Peyton and him aging a decade in the last year.
Talib was getting abused and Ware wasn’t getting a pass rush.
You’ve seen our CBs play right? That is abuse. We got abused by all kinds of WRs some good some not as good. we make em look All pro each and every week.
Allen hurts comes to mind, they made him look like a fucking star
neither was von miller. 0 sacks
Yup and they even stopped putting Hilton one-on-one with Talib.
Belicheck dumped him, picked up Revis, and never looked back.
I wouldn’t have mind Talib.
Unless Kelly/Roseman are playing Madden 2016
Beware Father Time.
He’s tolling for PManning and DBrees.
yeah it’s crazy how he always wins.
That as well….
Me too buddy, in fact he’s staring in my window. Creepy old guy with a beard right?
Relentless and remorseless enemy
So, Eagles 1-2 against teams in conference championships that they played.
P. Manning is overrated and it is one of the few times I think you want to point to his underperformance in the playoffs. This isn’t a guy who lost one or two playoffs game but is 11-13 now and has lost a ton of games (including at home) where his team was a big favorite.
If he would’ve won that Saints Super Bowl that would’ve cemented him as one of the best ever. Stat wise yeah great, but just didn’t get it done enough to be in the conversation of an all timer.
still has double digit play off wins, a ring, and consistently gets to post season.
Would Brady have 3 ring w/o viniteiri (sp) – No probably not
Football is the ultimate team game, thats why its the best.
Cute handle.
Thanks I hope I can change it next year lol
Yep can’t stand people who say he is the best QB of all time, Hall of famer no doubt but too much post season failure to be called best ever
Guys with better play off stats include guys like mark Sanchez, Flacco and Eli Manning. Are we really judging based on the small sample size called the play offs? If so, Brian Dawkins and JJ is overrated too as the Eagles defense choked a few times in the play offs
For as intelligent as he supposedly is, I’ll never understand why he chose to sign with Denver, knowing he would have to play outdoors in cold temperatures in the playoffs (and, yes, I do believe it affects him). Signing with Arizona would have made so much more sense for him.
And get killed with no OL?
Don’t know about you guys, but I want the Colts to win the Super Bowl now. And Pagano’s story might have written this all over already.
I agree just so we can say we “destroyed” the defending Super Bowl Champions on the road.
Yes so we can all print ‘the super bowl champions beaters’ t shirts!
We should get a baby Lombardi trophy out of that.
Just like 1980 . . .
When the Birds beat the eventual SB champs during the regular season.
Wasn’t that like a 10-7 real hard defensive battle? Man we should’ve beat that team in SB. Maybe not should’ve, but the interceptions, the Kenny King play, things just fell apart. The SB was beating Dallas, they shot their load and were just happy to be there.
BC1968:
You’re spot on.
One of the best games I’ve ever seen.
The score doesn’t tell the story about how great a game that was . . . .
Even at 10-7.
Especially at 10-7.
They were juiced and the Eagles weren’t.
I do too just don’t see it happening
out of the four remaining teams they’re the one i hate the least.
And the one that lost to the Eagles
In some ways a Colts-Seahawks game would be interesting. Luck vs Wilson. Although they are never on the field actually opposing each other, at the same time, but, you know what I mean.
Man Luck is like a creepy homeless guy who you try to avoid when he’s on the side of the road with the sign asking for money.
I can’t believe they don’t sell more brown crotchet ‘neckbeards’ in Indy. SF Giants cashed in with those lucrative stupid panda hats for Sandoval and the Red Sox are already selling them.
Colts’ rookie 5th Rd OLB Jonathan Newsome from Ball State (left Ohio State after his Soph year). About 6’3″ 245 lbs.
6.5 sacks in the last 10 game — including the strip-sack today on Manning.
Colts 8-2 during that streak.
He’s not Mathis. Or Freeney.
But he’s made a big difference for that defense.
I don’t even want to hear about rookie OLBs producing (see also Lawrence in Dallas).
But GEagles and Kelly would tell you that can’t judge players based on their 1st year performances!
does that mean Jordan Matthews isn’t who he seems to be? i mean, you can’t put any stock in a rookie’s first year right?
Fair to say and wonder how Matthews will look though if Foles is the starting QB again though next year.
Sanchez as the starting QB cost Maclin some $$$ this year.
see the importance of TC and developing chemistry. all of those guys need to train together this offseason.
They don’t… We leave that to the Jack asses
Regarding Lawrence, some draftnicks including tommy, didn’t like him for the Eagles
Kelly would have never drafted his character, no point wishing for ish, we have no control over. Lawrence was a fucking warrior at Boise
Yeah, some Colts fans rip on Grigson for some top picks that haven’t panned out or for the Richardson trade. However, he’s found a lot of late round guys/undrafted free agents/CFL players that have helped the team.
Any pick after the 3rd is pure luck so some teams are going to find gems (think how many teams would have killed for Herremans, Cole and Celek over the years?)
I think the Cowboys will fall back, Romo can’t go on forever, Redskins will still suck, and the Giants may be the team we contend with next year. Just throwing that out there, whatever.
These teams don’t scare me the Eagles scare me
Rod Marinelli may have been the Cowboys’ true MVP.
He’s gone.
Tough to re-create that kind of magic with a new D-coordinator.
Especially given the talent (or thinness of talent) on that defense.
Maybe, 2014 was Romo’s best shot.
to be fair they has a lot of injuries on D this year like the eternal on sean lee lol
Yep, the Giants receiver tandem, and then whatever else they are going to do this offseason compared to what we do this offseason will be pretty telling. I hope this offseason goes well.
Yeah but they have limited cap and will blow it on JPP, but If they fix thatO Line Owatch out
I was hearing the were going to let JPP roll, I could be way off though.
I’ve heard otherwise and that the franchise tag is in play, think Rolls is fine though
k.
almost feel bad for him 10yrs one playoff victory.
“almost” being the key word there
it’s 2 playoff wins, and no, I don’t feel bad for him
The magic called been facing super low amount of snaps and Dallas offense been the slowest and betting on Romo having another career year?
This will be one of the most interesting and anticipated off seasons in a long time for the Eagles. There’s cap room, there’s people to be had, should be fun.
Amazing how almost completely irrelevant 60 Minutes has become. 20 years ago if they broke a story it would have huge ramifications. Now it is just another news program mainly.
60 minutes is still on the air?
Is that more about the folks listening?
Or the folks talking?
They should consider changing the title to “Five Second Soundbite”. Would be a huge hit. Nobody has to think.
Amazing how these cable news shows will constantly say Breaking News, from something that happened hours or even a day before. It’s lost all meaning. Too much info flying around for 60 minutes to remain what it was
If anything, I would argue just the opposite and people are starved for it. Just look at the kind of success John Oliver has had especially when you measure him through social media metrics.
Local TV news is useless (argue you get less informed watching it) and the Cable TV news programs aren’t much better.
Just look at Philly. There isn’t a single good blog or news source that routinely covers City Hall and city politics in detail.
To me, I enjoy guys like Oliver, Jon Stewart and Colbert. Hate that his(Colbert)character is gone, still think he’s a genius who will succeed.
I’ll miss Colbert and I do wonder if he’ll be able to do an extended show. Hell a lot easier to do a 30-minute variety show filled with schtick and their pick of brilliant young writers who were willing to work for peanuts.
Yep those guys working for peanuts are working their way towards the top, paying their dues. Right now, the guy Jon Stewart has, the guy with the beard who got the Iranian guy in trouble, well technically not his fault..But the one that started Stewart on making the movie, Rosewater..Jason Jones, just had to look up and make sure I had the name right. He’s friggin hilarious, I love that guy and will be interested to see where he goes. He’s a pisser man, love that guy the way he handles the people he interviews. Whether the people are idiots, or they aren’t idiots and he’s being sarcastic with them, just a funny guy, hope to see him move up.
If you like The Daily Show and Colbert, you’d love John Oliver’s show. It’s really great. It’s like a long extended, more in depth version of what Stewart does when he’s going through the headlines. But, like I said, with more depth and information.
Colbert could move to Toronto, do his show on CBC. They love satire and many Canadians already watch on cable. He (or researchers) did due diligence during the 2010 Olympics and were worth watching. It’s a short hop to and from New York so why not? Many US networks.cable stations raid Canadian talent all the time, why not reverse the trend?
Because he’s being paid crazy stupid money to replace Letterman.
Is that confirmed? A rumour? Anyway, I only watch Letterman for the Top 10 List. Going to miss that.
It was announced last April, It’s why the Colbert Report went off the air, he’s prepping to take over in late summer or fall when Letterman goes off in May.
I think shows like the Daily Show are nice, but are also more or less the symptom of a problem than anything else. They serve to point out all the ridiculousness that the 24-hour news cycle has brought us, and how its completely destroyed journalistic integrity.
The problem arises when there isn’t another place that provides a legitimate source of news. Then people use shows like TDS, TCR, and LWT as their sources of news, and they are anything but. And then you get a bunch of misinformed, cynical people who have no idea what the actual story is.
We need more shows like 60 minutes to do boring, in-depth reporting on subjects that do matter. Problem is, 60 minutes doesn’t do those subjects anymore.
A great place to catch good reporting on important issues is VICE news, on HBO, and on the internets. They get really interesting world-wide important stories, and do great pieces on them.
Just got Netflix, found some good documentaries. N korea being among them, people sneaking in cameras risking their lives to let it out to the world
60 minutes has been steadily losing credibility for years now.
Yeah, they should cut it to 45.
i can enjoy life now
Guys, if you wanna see something awesome, check out this Cowboys list of free agents:

Cameron Lawrence OLB (ERFA)
Good luck with that, Jerry! Lol.
Yep 6mill in space for all of them and probably add Mellton there cuz if he’s on the team on March 10 he gets 9mil which would put them over the cap
pure. Awesomeness. Here’s hoping Jerry Jones becomes 150 years old.
thank god, i was worried they’d improve next year.
They really can’t, just can’t see it to many guys need to be paid and not enough money to pay them
yep! plus Romo and Witten a year older. OL still nice and young and all, but they need a G and T
Also got career HOF-esque years out of QB, RB, and WR. All at once. And healthy.
Yeah I was talking about it earlier if you tag DEz and Melton’s option is picked up they’re 15mil over the call just like that pure bliss
Romo is aging at that pace with the beatings he took this year
Honestly, I wouldn’t mind McClain or Carter.
no no no with McClain but maybe Carter
I really like Carter. Super athletic. They have moved him around a lot and changed schemes. I think he would excel inside and would give us two fast ILBs
Kendricks and Carter just flying around and hitting everything in sight would be nice. I don’t know if Carter can shed blocks well though.
Our scheme really protects our ILBs. Give me 2 fast, playmaking ILBs any day
Shedding blocks not a strength of his but thats what the 2 gap big uglies are for
I’d rather the Super Kendricks Bros 🙂
I take Carter, was looking like a future star at ilb before they went to a 4-3
Yeah, but doesn’t the cap go up alot this year? Maybe we are the suckers for watching our front office stay 15 million under the cap every year while the cap goes up.
projecting the cap is 140mil they have about 6.5 could end up being like 142 but most places are projecting a jump from 133 to 140
Or maybe we’re smart for having so much cap space this year to resign our young studs, as well as spending on a quality FA or 2.
Did you count how many there are?? That’s a third of the team now without contracts basically.
Lol half the team
Didn’t want to overstate. ;~). Or demonstrate how bad I am at math.
No, you are right. They are in trouble. But they also are.getting help from the increasing cap. I really hope we are aggressive going after free agents this year. Maybe some secondary help???
Joel Corry is calling for a cap of around $143. Increase of about $10 mil.
That many FAs in one year is mind-boggling. There is no way they can sign that many, whether these FAs or some new guys.
It goes up around 9 or not even enough to cover Dez Bryant
Yeah but every one is projecting 7 and they have 6mil on a 140mil cap if it actually 142 they still only have 8-9mil
I have eluded to this several times. Thank u for doing the heavy lifting lol
Theres only so much pie to go around (when Gov Cristie is around the pie vanishes)
Lol they’re talking about trading for Mariota on mile high report

Paul Ryan asking Chris Christie if he needs a hug
he couldn’t fit his arms around…
*sigh*
Luck didn’t make one pass that Ryan couldn’t do. And the worse of the two punt INT definitely was an issue with the arm. Dude was open, Luck had a chance to set his feet after rolling out, and threw a low arc-er that was easy to INT. Russel can throw almost that far while running, and guys like Cam, Rodgers (which you just saw how crucial a good arm is), etc, can make that throw, or at least not so it could be INT-able.
And the passing plan was very conservative tonight. They didn’t really give Luck many chances on anything risky other than the deep attempts.
The Colts did win, didn’t they?
Dude is out off his rocker, no worries.
Yes, I’ve attempted to read his comments occasionally.
Did they win, or did the Broncos lose?
I’m not saying the Broncos lost the game, but think about whether that might be the case.
Who is going to play next weekend? The rest is splitting hairs.
“Did they win, or did the Broncos lose?”
Both, these things are not mutually exclusive
Hate is blinding
It was a terrible throw but I don’t see what you’re talking about with “low arc-er”. It was just a badly under thrown ball that went to a place where only the defender could get it. If he put more arc on it, it would have gone further but taken longer to get there. In my opinion it was just a rushed throw, he was running away from pursuit, took the time to switch his feet which probably made him feel like he had a guy practically hanging on his back. He obviously didn’t have enough oomf on it to throw it in that direction, honestly if he took that same throw and led his receiver to his side of the field, rather than deliver it back across to the middle of the field it may have been a fine throw. Terrible throw no doubt, but not proof of a noodle arm by any means.
The seam he dropped in to Fleener on 3rd and 16 was pretty sick.
But Rodger’s TD pass was absolutely unreal. One of the best throws I’ve ever seen in my life considering the circumstances.
Time finally caught up with Peyton, he fell off a cliff towards the end of the season. Wonder if he’ll even be back next year.
Apparently he told Nantz and Simms that he couldn’t commit to coming back next season even though he previously said he was and something had changed since he said that. It could be just getting older but I wonder if he needs another neck surgery.
He’s a really smart player and I don’t think he’ll do a Favre and play past when he can’t do it at his best. If it’s time to hang it up, I think he will.
Somewhere Malcolm Jenkins is laughing and laughing and laughing…..
I think it’s likely the Cowboys take a major step back next year. With their cap situation, it’s going to be difficult to retain both Bryant and Murray, and even if they manage it, it will require sacrificing both depth and the ability to sign anyone in free agency, meaning it will be difficult for them to make improvements to their defense. It’s also unlikely they’ll be able to repeat this season’s run of good health again. It’s a good day to be an Eagles fan.
The Giants, on the other hand, are going to bounce back…
Could well. It all depends on Eli. If he’s still got a good year left in him, they’ll be better. If he’s shot, it’ll be hard for them to be better than mediocre even with a talent like Beckham on the roster.
With Garcon, Jackson, Beckham, Cruz and possibly Bryant in our division, it would be extremely naïve for the Eagles to not upgrade our secondary.
I’d say it’d be naive of the Eagles not to upgrade the secondary even if the other teams in the division were trotting out an army of Freddie Mitchell clones at WR. It’s that bad.
It’s Naive of fans to just assume that we will be able to in this week market.
..
Tell you right now, they won’t sigń someone just because he is a little better than Cary or Nolan…. If we sign someone, he needs to be a significant upgrade, and a perfect fit for our scheme and culture, with a fair price tag…… I doubt there will be many DBs available who the Eagles view as a perfect fit….
Why so? If the Eagles decide not to spend that is there choice but its not like they can’t they will have well over 40mil in cap space after a couple cuts I’d kill for McCourty and another Jenkins/Barwin type signing
There won’t be many DBs available that we view as significant enough upgrades to pay for, and wreck our continuity.
..
If we sign a corner, he has to be drastically better than our corners, not just sign a slightly better corner, a perfect scheme, locker room fit, at a fair price for his talents.
..
Eagles won’t go out and sign the best player available, but if they view a player as the “perfect fit”, they will go after him hard…. Unfortunately the projected market doesn’t seem very useful for the Eagles front office IMO
…
I wouldn’t be surprised if this was the quietest free agency we have had so far under chip…. Have a feeling fans will be furious with eagles in free agency This year
I just don’t see it, I’m still convinced you’re scarred from last year. Cary is expensive the money you get from cutting him can get you much better corners
I’m not telling you what I WANT, or what I WOULD DO..
…
There is plenty that I want,,that I don’t believe the Eagles feel the same about.
…
“Scarred from last year”… They signed the safety I WANTED remember? I am pleased with what they did in free agency last year… Heck, we haven’t even seen the best of Nolan yet
…
You don’t have a shred of evidence, not. Hint, that would lead you to rationally expect that me thinking we will be quiet in free agency is a false. Nothing the Eagles havedone could lead you to that conclusion… Kind of silly to argue against what I think the Eagles will do, using what you want to happen. When you have no evidence suggesting your wants coincide with how the Eagles view this situatipn and how they play their hand,
.
I’m a realist… Prepare for a dissapointing FA market… Doesn’t mean I personally agree with it, or look forward to sitting on our hands in free agency
…
Like WTF you think I’m rooting for the Eagles to do nothing and sit on their hands in free agecy? Of course not…it’s just how I interpret the situation and our interest in WHATS projected to be available in free agency this year.
Calm down 😛 not saying u know they will do, I have no inside info don’t know what they’ll do I’m simply dusting what I think they could do and I don’t think I’m being unrealistic. Me saying you were scarred by last season is that this time last year you were still talking about guys like Michael Johnson and Jairus Byrd but now it seems after last year thoughts of big name guys have left hype mind that’s all
After everything, a Safety with better range and doesn’t bite on all the fakes could improve the secondary by a lot. Or a CB that you can actually leave 1-on-1 and just give the other one help.
We just need 1 from FA. We can’t totally fix the secondary in 1 offseason, or all our holes. But I’d be happy with him or Maxwell.
Now where are you going to find that? Fantasyland?
That’s why I said cary and Nolan are staring in September.
..
Connar Barwin, Malcolm Jenkins… Fit that to a T, thus the Eagles went out and got them… Sorry, overpaying for your name Braindead Legion of Boom corner that morons like Dan Smyder will throw ridiculous money at, just ismt going to be the chip Kelly way… I don’t make the rules, I just prefer not to operate in “fantasy land” like the morons who spend all day listing the top free agentsw to eve u position, and expect the Egles to go get 3 of them,… Lol… Nolan Carrol, malcolm, barwin, Cary, value signings… What fuckin precedent does anyone have that shows we are remotely even interested in considering to out bid 6 teams for the best name brand player on the market? So who exactly is living in Fantasy land? Me or you? 😉
We went 4-2 against that a string of wrs
Your right. Should probably just ignore that part of the D…..
No, just saying that there is different ways to defend against great WRs than just getting better CBs, such as better safeties, better pass rush, force turnovers or better offense (score more or keep the ball away from the opposing offense)
I did say secondary in general and I agree with you. I guess I’m coming from the angle of, “where do we have the least talent?” the secondary. Theorectically, then, it would be the easiest to upgrade because most players replaceable are there.
True, but we shouldnt upgrade just bc of those 4, just bc the DB suck
I would argue that you upgrade for exactly that reason. However, I would also vote to upgrade the LB’s because they are the most important in the 3-4. I like Shaq tompsom, he might be able to help both positions.
Too small
can I just add an “again” to the end of your post lol
Do you want my login? Lol
For realz??? lol what a great morning, all is right in the world 🙂
sevondary will be upgraded, but I warn that the upgrades may not kick in as fast as we would hope for… I could see the upgrades coming via the draft, in which case, they probably won’t be starting in September
…
Don’t get your hopes up….nthis will be a very quiet Eagles free agency this year… Unfortunately.
…
Hopefully we can ATleast get McCourty. devin/Jenins should make life easier in September for Cary and Nolan on the outside
He’s got 100+ hits on him coming up!
Why should they bounce back? They had worse record in 14 than 13 even with Eli playing better and him having odb
Giants remind me of Da bears. Great fantasy football team, void of talent in the trenches
With that garbage O-line we’re going to bounce them on their heads twice.
Man are the comment sections on the Dallas blogs/websites fun to read tonight. For a bunch that was perfectly happy giving Lions fans and everyone else sanctimonious lectures about “losing with class” after the blown call in their favor last week, they sure do whine when a call doesn’t go their way and costs them a game.
I’d pay good money for a video of Chris Christie’s reaction to the referee’s announcement that the Bryant catch had been overturned.
probably drowned his sorrows in a box of krispy kremes
a crate of krispy kremes
Funny when the shoe is on the other foot. Must be nice to get 90% of the calls in your favor
Let’s hope the officiating crew doesn’t live anywhere near the GW Bridge.
I don’t have that video, but if it helps, here’s him looking like an idiot celebrating what he initially thought was a catch. Enjoy:
http://deadspin.com/a-priceless-photo-of-chris-christie-thinking-dez-bryant-1678869427
I know nobody does it here, but can the whole world please stop referring to John Fox as anything other than a bad coach. His last 4 playoff teams (08 Panthers, 12,13,14 Broncos) were all eliminated from the playoffs as favorites in those games.
Clueless.
Oh I’m not saying he’s good in fact his best coaching job was probably the Tebow year but they won’t fire him…. Yet
Did a pretty decent job shutting us down, what was it, ’03 outcoaching Reid and going on to the Superbowl.
I guess I should say with the Broncos
Yeah, luckily for him, his strategy to spear the opposing QB when he was on the ground was legal then.
I don’t think I have ever been angrier than that game. They speared Donnie–who _never_ got calls. Then we got to watch him flop around and 3-and-out the offense. Westbrook, our best player, wasn’t ever there, if I recall correctly. Then you had that CB Manning taking Pinkston’s candy. Was that the game were one of their players ran like 15 yards for a TD while the D made him look like Barry Sanders, too? Argg!
We went 1-2 against teams playing for the SB next week
1-0 FOles
0-2’Sanchez..
…..
Really blows that we didn’t get to see what Nick could do in the Packers and SEAHAWK games.,
I honestly don’t think it would have mattered much. I don’t think we would have put up 50+ points on the packers, we were just getting roasted on DST. The DAL / GB wouldn’t have even been close if Rodgers was healthy. Maybe SEA is more of a game, but again we were getting roasted on D so it’s a lot of pressure to put up 30+ on SEA.
IMO, I think it would have mattered vs. Seattle. If we put points on the board, it puts pressure on Seattle to score more points. There were lots of plays left on the field by Sanchez that could have turned the game, but the way Foles played earlier in the year – there’s no guarantee he would have made the plays too.
Same thing with the Dallas game. Lots of open plays missed, and then it just snowballed.
In a way, Foles had a bad year this year and having to step away due to injury (and now off-season) may help him mentally. I really think he’ll come back better next year if given the chance. Same with the team, you can’t turn the ball over 36 times in a season and expect to go far in the playoffs.
“If we put points on the board . . . .”
______________
But no one’s been putting points on the board against Seattle for the past couple of months.
Carolina’s 17 is the most yielded by the Seahawks in 7 weeks.
You think Foles is worth 2 more TDs against that Seattle team?
That’s a lot of points.
I don’t know. IMO, I look at the QB play in those games and I don’t see anyone that jumps out as playing well. It’ll be interesting to see them matched up against Luck or Brady (more likely the latter).
No, Foles isn’t that level and I don’t know if he ever will be. But if the QB makes the plays that are there, you can beat this team.
Going backwards:
Cam Newton – not a great season, not a great offense
Rams – not a good offense, okay QB
Cards – Lindley
49ers – Kaepernick – best one on the list, has looked terrible all year
Eagles – Sanchez, went in the tank
49ers – same as above
Cards – Stanton – step above Lindley, but ok
Then the week before that, Alex Smith and that offense scored 24 points. Not a great offense, but he’s played better this year than anyone on this list.
Leaving plays on the field basically describes Nick’s 2014.
This is hilarious.
Think Foles could have beaten the Seahawks, no one was beating the Packers on the day we played them – they could have had 70 points on our defence no trouble at all.
Yeah that day just didn’t even matter. I would sit all our starters if I could re-do that packer game… Curious how much the turf played into it? Brian Dawkins to me has never seemed like the type to make excuses for bad losses, for him to feel that turf hindered us so much, with his past experience there, is something to keep in mind for our next trip to Lambeau… Tho we played in Lambeu the year before, does the wet Lambeau turf make that much of a difference? Dawks reasoning is teams built for speed like us are really at a disadvantage on slippery turf, when you start to slide, you supposed to switch to power football, easier to keep your footing, but that the Eagles didn’t really have that “power” gear to switch to, especially with the state of Our OL… Tho we did switch to Power Attack in the blizzards v the Lions and ran them out of the Linc last year, of courses e are talking two completely different OLs.
…
Where we are in the team building process, I really don’t get to down on losing to the top teams, we are ahead of where we should be.. Shiiiiit look at where the Jags were, and chip and GUs Bradley started the rebuild at the same time…. Losing to the best right now, doesn’t shock me…. It just kills me when we have an opportunity to play a top team and test ourselves and we don’t ATleast hit them with our best punch… I want to see how our full strength team measures up to teams like Seattle and GB, and iit just sucks to be cheated out of it. Seeing Mark Sanchez loose to the LOB, what am I supposed to do with that?… Games against the top teams are good for our young players, sucks when we play so depleted. For example, AT San Fran and Arizona was supposed to be an amazing opportunity to measure our top ranked OL, yet we ended up playing them with a depleted 3rd string OL…. I can take the Losing RIGHT NOW, I just can’t take the wasted growth opportunities and tests for our young players. I’d much rather lose against GB and Seattle with FOles getting to experienceTHAT level of play. Losing those games with sanchez does nothing for me. No silver linnning…
What’s funny is half the teams in coaching search were waiting for denver to lose to raid there coaching staff…. Not sure why denver coaches are so in demand? They were given a ream team, one of the most stacked rosters, not to mention PEyton is more offensive coach than anyone on that staff…. Elite roster, year after year, they shit the bed.
…
Unless you plan on hiring a bronco coach and giving him an elite roster, really don’t see why denver coaches will be so sought after
Stacked on both sides of the field littered with probowlers and they did nothing
In fairness. The defense was one of the best this year, but it better be considering what they spent on it…
….
Best Defender on the field in the Denver game was corner Vontae, Colts… And Chris Harris CB denver
Vontae Davis . . .
Ryan Grigson’s best move, easily (besides drafting Luck).
And Davis was available to everyone.
Yup…traded for him. Goofy personality, not a bad kid, just always giggling n laughing n shit. Weirdo. One of the most consistent corners last few years
Looking back I think St.Louis finished the Broncos, haven’t been the same since also I wonder what happens with Manning if he leaves they get 19mil in space it’ll be interesting
Thin the Thomas’ will take up most of that.
They would just drop it though.
Congrats to Cody Parker on making the pro bowl
I don’t like Peter King but he does a good job describing the trickery Belicheat used lining up Vareen outside but as ineligible, then him stepping back with his hands out like it’s a quick throw to him.
I know it may be legal, but this really shouldn’t be.
I thought it was brilliant. They lose their center early, and they are completely shut down by one of the best front 7’s in football. They get whooped so badly they get down to like an 8% chance to win. Every other team in the nfl can start planning their golf trip at that point with no O-line, including the Eagles.
Love Chip, but I got adjustment envy watching that. Hate Belichick, but that dude is obviously the best coach in the league by such a wide margin, just a different level.
Agree wholeheartedly. Belichick did a tremendous job there.
I’ve been saying he’s the best for a long time. That dude is on a different level. Chip makes adjustments, I didn’t get envy. Chip isn’t Belichik level, but he’s a damn good coach. I think the envy I had was seeing Revis and good safety play.
would be so funny being Eagles fans watching that game with a Pats fan.
Eagles Fan: “OMG REVIS WHAT IS THAT!?”
Patriot fan: “uhg I know he’s having a terrible day, so many penalties and getting beat for a TD…”
Eagles fan: “no I mean, this is the best CB play I’ve seen in years!”
I think Boykin played hurt this year. This is the Boykin I know, and I didn’t see any type of speed or burst this year. This is the Boykin I know, and I expect to see this from the slot next year:
http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-highlights/0ap2000000257196/Brandon-Boykin-picks-off-Eli-Manning
The late reporting of the ineligible player loophole will prompt a rule rewrite in the offseason, guarantee it.
it’s like they push the rules and push the rules but then declare themselves the classiest people on the planet.
Thought for the day: Rex Ryan had a better record with Mark Sanchez at QB than Chip Kelly did.
Ryan’s Jets had a much better defense than Chip Kelly.
And an extra few years.
AG:
Not sure what you mean with “And an extra few years.”
I’m going with sample size. Not quite fair to compare Chip’s results with Sanchez, such a small sample, large standard deviation
Ark87: I’m going with sample size.
This exactly. He had 4 years at the Jets with a great defense.
Edit: 5 years, where he played the first 4.
you’re a fan right? seem a little down in the dumps about the Birds.. usually point out the negatives rather than ANY positive.. i guess it stirs up more convo? maybe?
Which positives should I be pointing out after a season when the Eagles squandered a first round pick, released one of their best offensive players with no compensation, missed the playoffs by losing 3 in a row in December, and then rewarded the architect of these decisions and results by giving him full player personnel control?
Seriously, which positives am I missing from this season?
Alex Henery is done in the NFL and we have a kicker now?
Hmmm well we know the Secondary needs an overhaul.. thats good to know… what else, what else.. we know that Shady is still pretty good behind a solid line #3 rusher in yards… looks like we have a nice new WR in JMatt… huff flashed some good stuff but also showed he was a rookie… the front 7 on D is pretty nasty.. i dont know those are a few for you i guess? right? could those be positives? im not sure..
Well for starters the play of the front 7. It’s dramatically improved. The were among the league leaders in sacks and one of the better run defenses in the NFL.
Special Teams was special this season. It won us a few games, and he knows that winning all 3 phases works.
Jordan Matthews looks to be a gem. Solid slot receiver that gave you quite a bit.
The coaches did a tremendous job with the offensive line considering they lost 3 starters for 8 games or more. They still won those early games.
Malcolm Jenkins looks to be solid.
Plenty of stuff that you missed. This is Year 2 and it seems that your suggesting that it was a total failure, that they didn’t have a winning record, or that they’re not moving in the right direction.
On being among lead leaders in sacks: any “Totals” are useless statistics for this team because they run more plays, and allow more plays to be run, than any other team in the league. How were they in sacks per play or sacks per passing attempt? I don’t know. I don’t have a premium account at one of those stats sites. Maybe they were good here too. But totals don’t tell us anything.
Losing starters happens to every team. The Eagles don’t get a special consideration for this. Sure you can say it hurt the offense, but you can also ask why they didn’t have capable backups ready to go if it made that much of a difference. You can also point out that Johnson’s absence was self inflicted. And you can also point out that those offensive line players were back when the season was decided in December.
Sure, Jordan Matthews looks like a good addition, and I think Huff might turn out to be a contributor, but the reality is that Maclin/Matthews/Huff is still not as good as Maclin/Jackson/anyone which is what we were looking at having this time last year.
Jenkins looks “ok”, surrounded by crap. I tend to agree with Tommy’s opinion in the penultimate podcast that his shine wore off significantly as the season progressed.
As Insomniac pointed out below, we do have a better kicker. So I guess there’s that.
“But totals don’t tell us anything.”
So are you suggesting our Front 7 didn’t play better this year? They moved the QB off the spot, and with all those extra plays, still were league leaders in rushing defense.
“Why didn’t have capable backups ready to go…”
Please name me one team in the league with that many injuries to their starting offensive line, and they still have a winning record? There isn’t any. Yes injuries are part of the game, but where are all these players coming from? They lost both backup ILBs in the last game of preseason and 1st game of the regular season. Yet with Matthews/Acho who wouldn’t have made the team came in and played well considering their limitations.
Again, how many teams lose three ILBs and still get consistency from that position? There aren’t that many ILBs in the league, let alone on one team.
You asked, “what positives am I missing from the season?” I gave you a bunch and you have a problem with it. If you don’t want to see the positives, that’s fine. But don’t pretend there aren’t things to build off of or that there wasn’t anything to be happy about.
So salty…… but I feel ya man.
C’mon man.
Fact for the day:
Mark Sanchez was a starter for the NY Jets
Mark Sanchez was the backup for the PHI Eagles
it used to be the first afc team that beat the eagles at the linc won the superbowl right?
now it could be the first afc team the eagles beat on the road?
we have a reverse jinx thing going on
If so, teams will be lining up to lose to us next year. I’m in for that.

#Eagles interviewed Texans director of pro personnel Brian Gaine for GM job on Sunday, per source. Met with Jaguars’ Chris Polian last week.
don’t we need to get a good young athletic O lineman in the draft?
Would be nice I think its the 3rd biggest need, Orlandl Franklin would be sweet if we got him or go draft route maybe get one of the Oregon lineman
Or an Ohio St. lineman…. 🙂
I think so. Our O-line has 3 guys who are 30+, O-lines have a way of suddenly going south when they get “real old real fast”.
I agree that OL is a need, but I’m wondering if the need is for a slightly athletic, physical RG to help Kelce with the stronger DTs. Between Kelce and Johnson, they have plenty of athleticism around the RG. What they need is someone who can take on the really big dudes that man the middle. Kelly’s not going to get a road grader, but maybe a guy who is a decent mix, favoring the physical?
Very interesting take. Just need that one nasty bulldozer, like the guy D3FB was talking about the other day. I would not be upset if we took an OL in the first.
I like the sound of that kid, but he won’t be @20.
yea, no way Scherff makes it to 20, if so, he would be a great pick
Probably not because the Eagles have to play at a high tempo for the entire time the offense is on the field, so you need guys with that kind of athletic endurance.
You’re probably right, but I’m not going to write it off. My guess is that they will sign a mid level FA for RG to compete with/provide better depth for Herremans. That mid-level guy will either be Mathis type technician (though obviously not as good as he’s become) or my slightly athletic physical guy who will be drinking smoothies like crazy all summer.
My guess is they draft a tackle somewhere, and play him at guard, which is what you do when you need athletic guards.
I thought about that too, but I have a hard time seeing a draft pick beating out Herremans, unless it’s a first rounder. And while I’m down with cutting Todd, I’m not sure Kelly will do that.
He doesn’t need to beat out Herremans. Depth is important on the front line, as we’ve learned this season.
WE NEED MOAR MOCKS!!!! POST THEM ALL!!!
Round 1 Pick 24 (ARI): Marcus Peters, CB, Washington (B+)
Round 2 Pick 20: Derron Smith, FS, Fresno State (A-)
Round 2 Pick 23 (ARI): Denzel Perryman, ILB, Miami (Fla.) (A)
Round 3 Pick 20: Hroniss Grasu, C, Oregon (A)
Round 4 Pick 14: Ladarius Gunter, CB, Miami (Fla.) (B)
Round 4 Pick 20: Austin Hill, WR, Arizona (B)
Round 5 Pick 20: Devin Smith, WR, Ohio State (B)
Round 6 Pick 20: Clayton Geathers, SS, UCF (C-)
Round 7 Pick 20: Byron Jones, CB, Connecticut (C-)
I really dont understand how you guys enjoys these. Both player and trade values are way off on that site. What is the point?
It’s all I have man, its all I have. Give me just this one thing.
I enjoy doing them, too, but I think in general we all realize it’s stupid. Especially where you get high “grades” for matching the preference of the guys who put the rankings together for the game.
That’s my favorite part -when you get an “A” for the Eagles picking a fullback in the fourth round.
You can try the fanspeak one for something a bit more realistic.
They should have multi-player ones, like they do for mock fantasy drafts.
Yea, i tried and my first 3 picks at #20 were
1) Randy Gregory
2) Tevin Coleman
3) Jake Fisher
Unless those guys test horribly I doubt any will be available at those picks. I also got Devin Smith in the 7th who will go round 2 at the latest
You missed the RB…. 🙂
Basically every mock draft has us taking Trae Waynes.
Boring.
What are the consensus good mock drafts again? Specifically the ones done by writers who are dialed in with actual GMs / Scouts?
Daniel Jeremia is pretty clued in to a fair few front offices (including eagles) and can actually judge talent. Mike Mayock is good and has a good handle on where players are generally ranked, and obviously Tommy is the man as well.
Dont worry about mocks till at least after the combine.
what would be cool if someone did a rough sketch of all the team’s draft boards. way too much work for one person. But if a guy like Tommy made one and kept one up just for the Eagles, it would be fun to follow on draft day, way more fun than the mock drafts which combust within the first 10 picks of the draft.
Would be able to cross people off our list as people get picked up. then when we get to our pick we can look at who we think are our say, top 5 people left on the board.
A lot of people do mocks but most of them aren’t doing much original work. So the mocks wind up being closer to each other than they are to the way that most teams are actually thinking.
wait we’re not taking Mariotta?
Last year at this time they all had us taking Ha Ha Clinton-Dix.
I remember it being Calvin Pryor, Did was gone top 15 in most mocks
I think that happened too but a few weeks later
Pretty accurate considering it was only one pick off.
Anyone see that Chip Kelly did like 9 commercials for Tostitos?
http://www.philadelphiaeagles.com/news/article-1/Kelly-Stars-In-Hilarious-Tostitos-Ad-Campaign/8d28c694-50d4-413f-b643-89e05fad5dc1
Why not? Sure he was paid handsomely to do so and I haven’t seen him pitch that many things locally. He should cash in while he can.
I agree. Just funny to see, because Andy wasn’t really like this.
I know we need secondary help, but I can’t help hoping we take OL in the first round. And one late in the draft, too.
Depends on what’s there. What about another ILB that’s as good or better than Kendricks? Now you have 2 stud ILBs.
I’m never upset w/BPA if that’s what the board has. I wouldn’t be upset if they picked secondary, DL, or even WR. If it will make the team better, I’m all for it.
After last year it’s hard to be happy with any position.
That’s the problem with last year’s draft. I don’t think there was a clear BPA. I really don’t care what we take but I would be a bit upset with a RB in the first.
Even if we needed one.
LB, both types, OL, QB, WR, DB, hell even DL if they think that guy will be an upgrade over 3 good to great players
Not a big fan of Ced, that would be an easy upgrade. Pass rush would improve significantly.
I wouldn’t be mad about them taking ILB or CB, I just see how much it impacts a team when the OL is in shambles. Even this year, we pretty much kept on trucking with the back-ups, but I can’t help wondering how good we’d have been if our starters had stayed healthy. Were I a GM, I’d probably draft at least one OL a year–late round OL seem to turn into starters more than most positions.
Yeah I agree about OL and I’d love for them to get a stud in this draft, but I wouldn’t be mad at BPA w/the #1 pick.
BPA would be nice. We picked for need seemingly last draft and that didn’t turn out super well.
we may also need to think about letting young players play even if they aren’t “beating people out in practice”. Lots of contributions from rookies this year.
Here is my theory on recent Eagles developments… sorry if it goes against the optimism expressed by the majority of the other posters.
Chip Kelly was in a position of power when he went to Lurie this offseason to demand the removal of Howie Roseman. Lurie just could not fire him after two seasons of 10 wins, and Kelly wasn’t going to stick around if he didn’t get what he wanted. It went against Lurie’s best judgement, but he was backed into a corner.
Kelly had become annoyed with Roseman because that jerk know-it-all was a constant reminder of his failures in the draft and personnel matters.
Lurie couldn’t fire Roseman, as he did with his boyhood friend Joe Banner, because Roseman knows too much and he couldn’t have Roseman telling tales out of school about Kelly’s blundering, including Roseman telling Kelly he had to move up in the first round to get one of the players on their board and Kelly’s refusal to do so in the hopes that one of them would slip through.
Guesswork? Yes. But I think I will be close to accurate when everything comes out when Kelly is fired in 2 years. After all, I did very closely guess the events surrounding the Smith/Matthews picks months ago on this board before the details emerged in the last few weeks.
I think Kelly’s Eagles headstone will say “Great coach, should have never been given control over player personnel.”
Yeh, we know, you told us a million times!
Well, I guess we’ll know soon enough. The draft is less than 5 months away, and then there’s what some are calling the best free agency class ever.
If Kelly doesn’t fuck it up, I’ll be the first to admit my pessimism was unfounded.
lol. C’mon, be real. You’re dying for the first opportunity to say “I told you so.”
No, I am sincerely hoping I am wrong.
Unlike most of you, I have season tickets. I pay for these games.
“I pay for these games.”
Well, the joke’s on you.
not a fan of the Chipper? must be the college offense he runs.. is this Bruce??
I love Kelly as a coach. I think that NFL coaching is too much of an old boys network that shuts out new ideas, and was thrilled to get him.
I don’t think he has the knowledge or experience to handle player personnel matters and I think his ultimate control of these matters has hurt the Eagles over the last two years. I think the Eagles lose a lot of talent, and a very useful counter opinion to reign in Kelly’s mistakes by demoting Roseman.
And perhaps at the root of it, I’m an SEC guy. Roseman is an SEC guy. Kelly is a PAC guy. Despite recent bowl results, the SEC is better than the PAC-12. I don’t want to see the Eagles favoring the PAC-12 when both the SEC and ACC put more successful players in the NFL.
Ummm, Kelly wants nothing to do with setting up the draft board, or most of the personnel stuff. He wants trust in his scouts and to trust the board.
It came out that Roseman didn’t do either when adversity showed up.
I kind of think you’re way off base on both Kelly and how it all played out. But that’s just my opinion.
You say this:
“I think that NFL coaching is too much of an old boys network that shuts out new ideas, and was thrilled to get him.”
And then this:
“Despite recent bowl results, the SEC is better than the PAC-12. I don’t want to see the Eagles favoring the PAC-12 when both the SEC and ACC put more players in the NFL.”
Without irony?
Things change.
Has it really changed that much? Fletcher Cox, Bennie Logan, Jordan Matthews and Brandon Boykin might disagree
Mychal Kendricks wouldn’t. Neither would Nick Foles.
The point is that the Pac-12 has gotten better. And don’t discount the influence of Chip Kelly in making it a more attractive conference for elite prospects.
Oregon is a legit powerhouse now.
SEC bias. The PAC-12 is pretty legit from top to bottom. I wouldn’t be shocked if you played head-to-head top to bottom If PAC came out on top.
I really want to see the SEC scrap their mid season bye. Bad for business
“I don’t think he has the knowledge or experience to handle player personnel matters and I think his ultimate control of these matters has hurt the Eagles over the last two years.”
I agree. I think Chip failed to realize some of the differences between the NCAA and the NFL. It’s still early in his career, though, so I’m approaching this off-season with a dose of optomism. With the power in Chip’s hands, this is his team to make or break.
yeah agree – no pro experience at all. Even other college guys Harbaugh and Carroll had prior pro experience. Probably need to cut kelly some slack (me included) and know that we’re in for a long ride.
I’m not a big optimist on the front office shake up either. The upside just doesn’t seem high enough to me considering the risk of the franchise burning down over all this.
The very best version I can spin this is that things aren’t going to be that different in practice, just in title. It was very important to the Eagles that they hire a coach to coach, not a coach to take over the franchise, like Andy did eventually. Just from a PR perspective they needed that distinction of moving on from past mistakes. And Chip walked away from our offer initially. Then suddenly we meet him one more time and he has a change of heart. Then we pick up a highly respected and high ranking personnel guy in Gamble who happens to be on the same page as Chip, because, you know, the more the merrier, why not? You can never have too many big wig execs involved with your franchise right? Then a few times this year Chip finally snaps and says outright he has the final say on all personnel decisions.
Who knows why Gamble left, it’s possible he wouldn’t commit to this job while pretending he isn’t the GM. Things soured and Chip says the charade has gone on long enough. Lurie decides people like Chip enough that he can get away with making it all official and here we are.
So really the best outcome to me is that nothing really changes at all. Worst case is that there is a serious power struggle that will tear this franchise asunder. I try not to worry about it because nobody really knows how any of this will turn out.
this is ridiculoso
Yeah Talib struggled a bit yesterday at times with Hilton but Davis was great for the Colts. Ditto Revis for the Pats.
If the Eagles have any shot at meaningfully improving their secondary next year, they are going to have to pay and pay $$$ for a CB in FA. Repeatedly have done that during Lurie’s tenure here starting with Vincent and then again with Samuel & Nmandi.
Question is Kelly willing to do that given this defensive scheme and what happens with C. Williams? More and more, I think Williams is back on a reworked deal and the Eagles replace Fletcher via a CB in FA.
Another of my opinions that goes against conventional wisdom: I think Bradly Fletcher returns and Cary Williams does not.
I also think that if they manage to get a good cornerback to play alongside him, the return of Fletcher won’t be as disastrous as most assume it would be.
good CB or good safety?
Hopefully both 🙂 I guess additional safety help for Fletcher won’t mean much if Nate Allen is the one helping.
True, so sad that he’s so mediocre and they just can’t replace him.
Sadder still, after teams re-sign their free agents, Nate Allen will probably be on most “top ten safeties available” lists
yeah someone will take him and do a “patrick chung”
that someone was us last year 🙂
i mean the 2015 patrick chung, who belicheck just gave a 3 year deal to.
I think Nate was the weakest link, he just isn’t tough or instinctive enough to be a starter on a good defense, the fact that he doesn’t play special teams is telling. A mjority of times that Bradley got beat there should have been safety help over top. I still think that Fletcher would make a good safety.
Money certainly makes Fletcher more reasonable but even the coaching staff FINALLY acknowledged he was a gigantic sieve and essentially buried him late in the Skins game.
yeah people are just going to abuse him next year. And what does that say to the other guys if you keep him on, starting and the rookies can’t even play. Plus fletch’s upside is batting passes, he’s not catching any of the 1000 balls that are thrown his way.
I wouldn’t be shocked.
Agree, problem is they sat on their hands when pro bowl calibur corners were available for not a lot of money, Brent Grimes, Talib, Revis, Davis, etc. were all available last year — nada. Not much will be available this year.
There will be at least 3 corner backs that could help the Eagles immediately:
1. Maxwell
2. Kareem Jackson
3. Cromartie
I want one of them!
Did you really just write that you want a Cromartie to play corner for us? You are a brave man.
I know. But I am not Kelly, (un)fortunately. 😉
I don’t want Maxwell. Look how easily Seahawks can plug and play corners. With that D even Bradley Fletcher would look good.
I think that’s just too plain to assume. Your theory would imply that Richard Sherman can also be easily replaced…
They’ve gone through a ton of corners on that side of the field: Browner, Maxwell, Thurmond, Simon and Lane. There was not a significant drop in play at all.
Also, there would obviously be a larger drop in the quality of play if Sherman goes out vs whomever comes in at the other corner spot. But with that defense and those safeties…I don’t think it would be as catastrophic as people might think
I think you saw a drop fr Maxwell when he was out, Browner left Seattle and he wasn’t too bad in NE
At safety I think Parker and Sercy are guys people should talk about it would be another mid range signing just like Jenkins and Barwin
Comartie and Peterson spent half the year flat on their bellies watching WRs run down the field with a football in their hands.
I’d take Peterson in a heartbeat. Actually I would personally drive down to Phoenix to pick him up.
Outside of Talib and Revis…they didn’t sign unreasonable contracts. I would have liked to get Davis.
I feel like most every drafted CB, even the high picks, needs a year or two before they’re effective. Maybe we can get by with Carroll and Williams until Watkins or another draft pick is able to keep up, but I expect the secondary position to get settled with at least league average players before the draft.
If the Eagles come back with Carroll and Williams as their starting CBs, they failed this offseason.
Sucks for you, that’s exactly the starting outside tandem for September 2015… Sorry
No chance
What’s the latest on Watkins? Do they see him as more of a cornerback or a safety? (I thought it was safety, but I may not be remembering correctly)
He’s been cross trained at all of the secondary positions, including slot. I’m just speculating based on the roster moves but personally, I think the team likes him at CB. They moved Watkins to safety to replace Wolff, and signed Roc Carmichael to play the backup CB spot. After trying that one out, they signed Prozinski (now way I’m looking that spelling up) as the backup safety and moved Watkins back to CB. I’m not sure if that’s a knock on Watkins ability to play safety, or if they thought he was a better backup CB than Carmichael.
As for unsubstantiated opinions, he’s probably the eventual successor to Boykin in the slot, because I have serious doubts that we’re going to get to keep him.
Nothing in Cary’s history or personality lead me to believe he is open to taking less money. If he did I ciuld get on biatd with keeping him, but no way at his price tag
On a very bright note, I’ve already paused at least a dozen times today to reflect upon the glorious, gut-wrenching, ball-busting, karma-fulfilling way the Cowboys lost yesterday.
But, P_P_K, don’t you understand . . . that was a catch by Bryant.
My gosh, who cares what the rules say.
I’m telling you, all of America (who watched) know that was a catch.
Dez Bryant knows it was a catch.
Romo.
Garrett, too.
And of course, Jerry Jones knows.
You want to rely on a rule book? Dumb. Dumb. Dumb.
The very idea that a rule book should apply to America’s team is just, well, plain D-U-M-B.
Just ask — oh, I don’t know — Chris Christie.
There’s a guy who knows when rules can be ignored.
and the Tuck Rule fumble was fumble.
The only thing better than winning is . . .
Cowboys-inspired schadenfreude.
An entire lifetime of, “On further review, the receiver did not complete the act of catching the football . . . ; therefore, the pass was incomplete. First down, Green Bay.”
You mean —
Another penalty they didn’t call, no helmet on the field of play.
Not better, but a nice feeling nonetheless.
You, my friend, just won a brand-new German washing machine for spelling the word ‘Schadenfreude’ correctly.
Given how poor the secondary was this season and given how few quality free agents fit our scheme, I’ll be curious to see if the Eagles are willing to do a one year rental on an older player. Antonio Cromartie is too old to depend on for very long, but he would have been better than anyone lining up at corner for the Eagles this season. Just one example and I’m not calling for the Eagles to sign him. I’m just interested to see if the Eagles are willing to go down that road.
I mean it depends on the money if Cromartie wants to come for 2/11.5 or something then maybe but I don’t think that’s the route they’ll go but what do I know
I’m. In.
I thought you were setting up a Sheldon Brown suggestion.
lol, unfortunately, Sheldon in his prime couldn’t play for Kelly. Not unless he wanted to play slot.
Oh now I’m in
A rotation in the defensive backfield is 100% necessary. Too many plays — i bet our defense plays an extra game or two worth of games on the season. That’s a lot on veteran legs when our secondary plays 100% of snaps.
Cary sure whined enough about being tired. Still, there’s probably some truth to this. I put it on Billy for not wanting to allow anyone to show up his butt buddy, Fletch.
Yeah i don’t understand that at all. At least let someone rotate in. I don’t know if that’s a kelly call or a billy d call. I think he’s actually not very good. I don’t think the front 7 is his (I give it to azz), but then again it’s not his scheme.
I’ve read more than once that Brady restructured so that the Pats could more easily get rid of him, but then he would have control of who he plays for. He doesn’t want to be traded. So, yes, let’s assume that happens. I’ll take Brady for 2-3 years.
Chip might even stop running the read option with Brady at QB 😛
Gigantic corners who can also run real fast, and play both man and zone very well are tough to find. I just wish we would prioritize the ability to cover wide receivers before an arbitrary height…like everyone else.
We likely need to turn over 3 spots in our secondary. Could take 3 years to do that long term. So maybe you try to get 1 long term solution in the draft, 1 longer term player in free agency, and 1 stop-gap guy for a year or 2 with a guy like Cromartie. Probably will need at least one band-aid this off season. Which is depressing because we had 4 band-aids over the past 2 years and only improved in one position in the time they bought us.
Yeah, I agree 100%. The 2inches is more important than talent burns me up. I get not wanting a roster of exceptions, but what happened to playing the best players? You don’t draft shorter guys, you don’t sign them, ok I understand that. But, you still should play the best players on the current roster, regardless of height.
I’m torn between doing a one-year band-aid or doing a one year rental on someone who could actually make a difference. Revis comes to mind as a guy who I wouldn’t want long term, thanks to his incessant need to be the highest paid corner in the world. One year rental and a chance to win it all? I’d take it.
true, he’s a guy where if the picture started coming together, you do it. However I don’t think we do it until the front office is sure they have a franchise QB. So if Foles stays healthy in 2015 and has a season like 2013, I think you see us make those sorts of moves for 2016.
Doubt it, assume Nolan and cary are the bandaids while we draft and grow corners… The money will most likely be spent keeping Boykin, while we pay our outside corners on cheap rookie deals for the next 4 years… Cary and Nolan are most likely the corners until a young player is ready to take their spot.
..
Sucks, I know… Don’t shoot the messenger
Fletcher and Cary were bandaids and we failed to draft their replacements. I think missing the playoffs will drive chip crazy. I think he will look to make upgrades via FA and draft some young guys
He can’t put a gun to GMs heads and force them to Gve up the quality corners.. Chip can go as crazy as he wantsl it’s a miserable year for free agency. I expect the most passed preseason since chip has arrived…. Fuckin love to be wrong tho
you think boykin stays i’d heard he might try to hit FA and get paid to start. Clearly our only corner that can catch balls.
I heard different
It is anything but arbitrary, but I hear you. In IT there is a rule you can get two of these three but not all three; fast, cheap and good. In the case of NFL CBs, it translates to fast, big and cheap.
Doubt we ever see those 1yr stop gaps under chip… He focused on building a program, not an old set in his ways band aid like Cromartie and his 17 baby mamma’s
Not saying I want it but we have already had some band aid dbs in the Chip era
Our band aids, are 2,3 yr band aids… You won’t see chip add a guy for one year, I doubt that ever happens at any position..
Would Cro really be a one year band aid? Personally I’d prefer going after players 28 and younger
Personality and mindset still need to fit. I agree that he wants to build a program, but given the lack of options, older vets might be his best bet.
Go Ducks tonight
Joseph Young’s gonna put on a show 😛
don’t make me google names. I won’t do it.
Sorry I’m a big Oregon guy thought he was nationally known, he’s the star of the Oregon BBall team
it’s my fault I only support them from afar b/c of Kelly and really haven’t seen them play (did so some of the FSU game), but will watch tonight. Real bandwagon fan here.
But if so many of you want Mariota, shouldn’t we root for him to have a horrible performance so his draft stock falls?
I want him to come out and say he’ll only play for CK.
maybe if we had the 2nd pick that could work
Done….. 🙂
was our defense actually better with chung last year?
it was abused less, but i don’t know what that’s a result of honestly.
agreed but what the heck, we had a great string of games last year holding opponents under 21 or whatever.
and we had chung and nate.
I don’t get it.
Fewer 3-and-outs with Jackson on the roster.
yeah the offense was crazy. Those first couple of games where we were running it and doing crazy formations, it was great. Then the Denver game happened, that was sad.
Only way our defense was getting off the field in that Denver game was if they scored or handed us the ball because they pitied us.
I missed the Packers game, but i’m assuming it was the same game (including the kick return score). Hard not to draw conclusions about your secondary from those two losses.
Really didn’t have a lot of 3 and outs. Stats on that are pretty interesting. Did get worse about that later in the year.
Interesting, we actually went three and out slightly more with Jackson than we did this season.
19.4% of the time in 2013. 18.2% of the time this year.
Sanchez vs Foles. (jk) I think it’s the deep ball problem, is so easy just to loft it up to him.
Don’t use facts. It messes up the argument.
I can’t resist poking holes in people’s preconceptions and assumptions. The ‘we were so much better with Desean’ argument irritates me a bit. Unless you honestly think that releasing Desean is responsible for Fole’s decline in quality of play or that having Desean turns Sanchize into a quaility QB, then you really shouldn’t complain.
You’re speaking to the choir. I didn’t care he was released and honestly he wouldn’t have made a difference unless he was playing QB or CB.
wrong
Jackson sucks anyway
Better at avoiding big plays. Don’t know that I’d credit Chung for that. Change in emphasis of rules really messed with Fletcher’s head and he struggled a lot more this season as a result.
Why not play Boykin on the outside.. Watkins or someone else in the slot? besides all the: well BD doesnt think hes big enough or whatever… Saban thought he was tall enough.. the young Maryonwitz (sp?) could have even brought him to Bama… at least he would be able to hang with the speed guys… seems logical to me.
Fact that they won’t even give him a chance is what irritates me. If they started him out there and he stunk up the joint, ok I understand benching him. Isn’t that exactly what Fletcher did this year though? I get wanting the ideal, and I approve of prioritizing drafting and signing for it. I don’t get ignoring what’s already on your roster. I’m going to try not to comment on this anymore, cause I feel like a broken record.
I can understand not having him outside for some match ups but against a speed WR like DeSean? Match Boykin up. During the replay of one of DeSean’s long bombs against Fletcher, on the replay DeSean has accelerated and eaten up the 10-yard cushion that Fletcher is giving him and already 5 yards past Fletcher and Fletcher has hardly even begun his backpedal. DeSean is obviously fast, but that’s pitiful.
I mean i don’t know what they were seeing in practice all of 2013…but that was pathedic. And Kelly took the hit on that but it’s really — i don’t know arrogant of him and Billy D, i just don’t get it? After he got whooped for3 straight TDs that kicked us out of the playoffs?
I think even the matchup thing is B.S. Once again, trot him out there. If the other team takes huge advantage, it’s the same as him sucking and needing benched. I think what scared Billy D and Chip was he might play well and invalidate a dearly held idea. Sad if true.
It is worth a try but he hasn’t been very good at it in the pre-season.
John Fox OUT as Broncos head coach.

John Fox and Broncos mutually agreed to part ways.
The speculation I’ve heard is that Manning doesn’t want to come back if it would mean a new OC and with other teams pursuing Gase, the Broncos are letting Fox go so they can elevate Gase.
Interesting and thanks for the twitter feed (I’m not on twitter). J, Fox was a terrible head coach given the tools at his disposal (and his staff).
A:
Fox’s regular season results were pretty good.
Clearly, though, when you have Peyton Manning — even on 1 good leg — you’re going to win 10-11 games at least.
That said . . . it seems harsh to blame Fox for R-Moore blowing an easy knock-down on a Hail Mary in 2012 with 30 seconds left against Ravens.
In 2013 . . . who was gonna beat the Seahawks in the SB. (Certainly not Manning and new-HC Gase).
This year . . . injuries at RB and with Manning hurt the Broncs.
But I get the argument that the defense didn’t step up this season in the playoffs.
Who was the D-coordinator for Denver this season.
Jack Del Rio – favorite to be Raiders’ next head coach
Right. Thanks.
I can understand that. I think CJ Anderson ended up being the best back (Hillman is healthy but not playing).
Von Miller Demarcus Ware combine for 0 sacks even though Colts have no running game. J Thomas, D. Thomas not doing any sort of playmaking at all, i just don’t get it. Maybe it just comes to easy for them throughout the rest of the year.
And when Manning quits . . .
Gase’s days at Faber are numbered.
Gase and all his stinkin’ Bronco buddies.
Fox to the Jets.. You read it here first. 😉
Nooo I don’t want to lose Fletcher Cox!!!
Fox could return to the Giants as DC.
Fox won’t take a step down, I don’t think.
Been a HC — a winning HC — too long.
But if he’s the heir-apparent to Coughlin . . . maybe.
Having a head coach in waiting never seems to work out well, in the pros or in college. You’re probably right in that he won’t take a demotion. I’d feel bad for guys like Bowles
if they lose out on a HC opportunity in favor of a retread.
It might be Spags. 🙁
Wonder how this affects the Thomases decision to stay or go in FA? Or if this is the end for Manning too
Should they stay or should they go now?
D. Thomas should go.. Go to the Eagles!
I almost put a post suggesting that but if we signed him it would likely be instead of Maclin. It would cost us more cap-wise to release Cooper than to keep him. I could definitely see us signing Maclin and another veteran WR to compete with Cooper on the outside but I don’t think it will be someone in Thomas’s price range.
If we sign Thomas , Maclin is gone
Havent looked to much into the cap.. Is there a scenario where we could sign Maclin n D. Thomas with the release of Cooper next season? 2016/17 season..
Cooper’s cap hit if you cut him(from remaining pro-rated signing bonus) is greater than if you keep him.
Get rid of Maehl, who only holds a roster spot b/c he’s so cheap.
It’d be difficult to devote that high a percentage of cap room to the WR position. Cutting McCoy would be a feasible scenario. That would save $7.75M in cap room. RBs are replaceable.
Think he knows he’s gotta get his number down, wouldn’t be surprised if they moved him to the $7-8m range, which i think might be too much but is more reasonable than $10+
He said next season when we can save cost to 4 mil by cutting him
I mean technically yeah it’s not like we could not get it done but do we really want to put down 20-25.mil on 2 wide receivers
They have a lot of their offensive skill players expiring now, but my guess is that the Broncos lock down both Thomas’. Depending on whether Manning stays, they decide what to do.
If he stays, they continue looking short term and resigns Welker, Knighton etc. trying to win the SB.
If he goes, i would think they let Welker go too, only locking down younger offensive players and trying to build further on that defense thye have going, while trying to find their franchise QB, since im assuming Osweiler isn’t that guy. Also letting players like Ware go on defense letting younger guys take over
Having Thomas, Thomas, Sanders and OL players like Clady, Vasquez, to go with a defense fielding Miller, Wolfe, Trevathan, Talib, Ward, Harris, Moore, maybe even bringing back Knighton/Carter. Its a pretty good situation to build long term, considering they kinda have a reputation for selling out to allow Manning to get them a super bowl. Of course if they loose a lot of the players, they’re fucked. but hows that different from any NFL team.
They have to think about Orlando Franklin too.. Elway said he doesnt think they can keep both Thomases too
Where did he say that? Honestly Julius shouldn’t be to expensive maybe 7mil a season so sign him and give Demaryious lol or Franklin
Read it few weeks back.. Rotoworld?? Either way one has to be signed for the other to be at least franchised.. They also have Von Miller coming up next year too.. If Manning retires think they save round 20mil though
If Manning retires I think they’ll try and lock up all the youngsters unless they don’t want to be there with Manning gone
I forgot Franklin, they have to look at him too. I think they can get them back, especially if Manning and Welker goes. If they stay, giving them contracts that rise in pay would be the way to go. Lower cap number while they have Manning, higher when he leaves and they have a cheap QB. Manning counts almost 20 mill towards the cap, you can sign Thomas and Thomas and still have change with that amount if he goes.
Its a sad thing because Manning has been such an influence to the NFL, but I think he should call it quits. Just plainly say the league caught up with his body. He sure locked more than done last night, even with nagging injuries. He couldn’t hit shit.
Even if he doesnt go, if would seriously consider cutting him if I were the Broncos, just to keep Thomas x2 in town. Cutting Manning saves them 16.5 mill according to overthecap.com and it might be the perfect time to move on.
Yeah ever since the Rams game he’s looked off
Yeah I agree with that, but even further, he hasn’t been himself all year. Sure, he was still a top NFL QB, but he wasn’t Peyton Manning. He wasn’t that dominating, unstoppable force. Maybe he’s ben nursing nagging injuries all year, maybe he just got old. Its a dillema for the Broncos, but considering they might be losing a top NFL WR and a top NFL TE, I might be inclined to move on from a QB, not just aging, but in the very late stages of his career. Which is weird to say because im just such a big fan of Manning.
I agree but it seems like the Rams broke them, huge decline since
With them just releasing the entire coaching staff, it smells like its done to me. They go for the rebuild, Manning is out. Whether it’s a new team or retirement seems to be the question now.
Based on Peyton’s inability to drive the ball down the field, he should retire. His arm is gone and the Indy game was an embarrassment. Blaming and firing Fox is stupid, not that he’s a great coach, but still silly.
if he had torn quads (or injured quads) that affected his ability to drive then i can understand that, hard to think he fell off a cliff midseason.
shouldn’t sanchez retire then?
One guy’s a hall of famer in waiting. The other still has delusions of a career. . .
Surprised we haven’t seen any “Fire Billy Davis and hire John Fox as defensive coordinator!” posts yet.
Is he good? Both him and Jack Del Rio couldn’t stop Andrew Luck yesterday.
Billy won’t even be considered to be replaced after carrying chips offense all year…
…
We are growing our defense from the ground floor.. Believe it or not, but I’m sure chip views this years progress by our young Defene as a solid job done by Billy… It’s not good enough for fools with ridiculous fan boy expectations, that don’t understand growth process of a defense, and young player development, but a guy who understands the process and how it doesn’t happen over night, and is rational about what he gave billy to work with…. If you ask chip if Billy’s job is in question, he would look at you like you went tropic thunder type “full retard”
Yeah I don’t love Billy or anything but he deserves another shot next year and everyone wants his head. He did a solid job job with average talent
Jesus Christ, I live in a world where the “genius” fanbase doesn’t even know what solid defensive growth looks like and an impressive young QB for his first 20 starts… What I don’t get is how the fuck did this fanbase get like this? They act like a bunch of fools spoiled by a decade of blowouts and Super Bowl wins… It reaches the point we go down 10 points in the second quarter and half of the donkeys Genuinly beilieve the game is over…. I guess I missed this golden age of eagle football that spoiled us into having these ridiculous expectations for what a good young Qb, and improving young defense, and a team its its second year of the building process is supposed to look like.
..
…This offseason is going to be unbearable.
I agree with you to an extent not every one needs to be fired and we don’t need change for change but I hope we aren’t just sitting on s ton of call source like last year doing nothing,
Preach on brother. The pessimism amongst eagles fans is just ridiculous.
Expectations. I think we’re “rebuilding” but b/c of the success we don’t think we’re rebuilding. There’s nothing young about the secondary though.
It’s a stop gap fuckin secondary… At the most you will get two quality veterans.. The other two DB upgrades are going to have to come from drafting and developing them, amd be considering typical rookie cornerback play, it ain’t happening overnight. We paid for stop gap DBs.. They will be im place untiL we draft someone and they are ready to take their job,,, we can cry and bitch for the next 4 months, but it ain’t happening. We paid for 1’Starting DB (Malcolm)… The most you are getting is one more quality malcolm level DB… The other two are coming from the draft and they won’t bd ready to out play the stop gaps we have in place for September anyway…. So someone fuckng join me in reality
I hear you. My point is that after last year few people (read: fans) and probably players thought we were “rebuilding”, i def thought we were going to be in a position to win a playoff game, maybe better. But i agree this will be a longer process than many (read: me) will want to admit.
Heck so did I,… And if you give me our starting OL and starting QB, I still think we could have won a playoff game, but that was because I expected to be strong enough to overcome some short comings we still have to upgrade, instead we were decimated by injuries, a strength like the OL turned into a weakness, when that happens, your weaknesses usually get magnified And its a 6 win year.. Kind of amazing to endure what we did and still win 10 games… chip and Arians had the most impressive coaching jobs this year. Average coaches could never overcome what those two coaches proved this year, and I can’t stand pig face Zona coach
Please. Davis was fired twice previously after his second year as a DC for exactly the same thing that transpired this year. Instead the Eagles are just going to make a couple of positional coaches take culpability as the bag men instead of Davis.
Yes there were some areas of improvement with the defense but you can also pick as many stats where they declined or had no real improvement.
Ok
To be clear — I was saying he’s not good, considering…
Lurie said that he loved Howie as GC, yet…
I know you’re angling for Dave Spadaro’s job but it’s hard to see that the secondary took a major step forward this year. I think the D got “better”. We feasted on bad teams, the front 7 was good against almost everyone (few sacks against good teams in clutch time but whatever). But the secondary has been an issue – especially against good teams, so i don’t understand why they played the scheme they played, considering.
Gotta get used to the D b/c i think it’s going to be very similar next year despite those “big game” corners we have. Isn’t that what you called them?
Fox know how to run a 3-4?
No but billy Davis does
My latest understanding is this GM “search” is a data collecting Farce, plenty more will be interviewed, but Maynowitz will be the guy in the end
we need the dude from seattle
I think we’ll promote Marynowitz, perhaps even to the top spot, but I do think we’ll bring in some guys from the outside. Roseman isn’t in personnel evaluation anymore and Gamble is gone, so they’re down 2 staff members. Plus, unless it’s happened and just hasn’t been reported, Rick Mueller isn’t being considered for the “GM” role so it wouldn’t surprise me if he’s out when all is said and done.
They’ll probably try to keep Gase, but it wouldn’t surprise me if the Broncos target Sean McDermott if they decide to look outside the organization. Some of their personnel guys(Matt Russell, Heckert) are familiar with McDermott and IIRC they considered him for DC after the Eagles fired him(a big mistake in retrospect although I wanted him fired at the time).
BREAKING NEWS, Eagles have awarded WR Maclin, Jeremy with a 6 year contract worth $70 million
Nothing personal, but I feel like I should seek outside confirmation of this, Big Fat Liar.
I agree, I don’t trust fat people.
The Big Fat Liar is a Cowboys fan, anyway.

BANNED.
Now please wait at the cashier for your mum picking you up.
The Broncos released their entire coaching staff. So it’s not going to be Gase. Who’s their secondary coach? I’d look to bring him in. I questioned them using Talib to cover Hilton instead of Chris Harris, Jr. but in general they’re secondary has done a good job.
The whole staff?!

Entire Broncos coaching staff has been let go, assistants at all.
Damn Peyton has to be gone then
Peyton said he can just tell everyone what to do.

Member of the Broncos coaching staff tells me that the entire staff has been notified during group meeting that can/should “look elsewhere.”
This to me sounds like them saying not so much that everyone’s outright fired but that it’s going to be up to whoever the new HC is(likely from the outside) and as such all the assistants are free to look for work elsewhere. Of course, the other tweet says they’re outright canned.
Along that line of thinking: Jason La Canfora

Also. I am told Broncos have told all coaches under contract they are free to explore other options but have not been terminated

“mutual parting”
Which is the hip new term for fired
Hmmm wonder if elways making some room for his old head coach and his son..
And this is why Philly fans are comfortable yelling “fire everyone” at their televisions when we lose. Deep down, we know our ownership isn’t dumb enough to actually do it.
Man, Reid would have been fired after the TB conference championship game in 2002 if Elway was in charge.
and if I was
just kidding, I think
That may have been the most painful loss of any Eagles game.
by far, then arizona
Breaking news:
Chippah on ESpN right now!
Damn, i didn’t think he’d fire billy d on national tv. [joking]
Oh you’re joking thought you were that big fat liar guy for a second lol
Why the hell is he there when he should be interviewing “GM” candidates?!
Joking, sort of.
Wtf?! Why did the Eagles stop selling calendars??? I cannot find one for 2015!
No cheerleaders.
No calendar.
The 2014 spirit squad is no more.
Hence, no glitzy (slinky?) calendar.
Just a theory
The cheerleading section of PE.com has a swimsuit calendar on sale. I don’t know if that’s what you’re looking for or if you want one with players.
http://www.philadelphiaeagles.com/cheerleaders/index.html
Actually one with players. My wife just said. Lol
Kind of crappy championship game from a draft prospect point of view. ATLEAST for the Eagles picking 20…. Not many players worth watching today. The Buckeye Defense has a great DL, but I doubt we have interest, so I can spend the time Oregon is on Offense watching the Center Grasu(sucks that he ispaying thru injury but you still see his athleticism), and Tackle/guard Jake Fisher..
..
I’m more interested in when OSU has the Ball, get to watch Devin Smith WR, and Arik Armstead on Defense,
Mariota, Bennett, Washington, Dargan, Armstead, Grasu, Fisher, Smith etc. Think there’s some good talent
Lots of talent in this game. Geagle probably doesn’t like either QB though, cause they’re both scramblers.
I don’t like college prospects that ARENT,very realistic for the Eagles. 1 QB is a top pick, the other AINT beating out FOles.. Kind of ,meh
.,
Then again, I’m a defensive guy, so the lack of Defensive prospects is probably what bores me. I like ARik tho…
I dunno, kind of boring. I saw so much of these kids. And only think, the t/C and DL from Oregon, and the WR from Ohio st are realistic for us… Dargan is another reynolds/wolff long shot, we only need 1 safety, I’d rather adress it with more of a sure thing starting caliber safety… Have enough young LONGSHOT flier safeties on our roster
…
really liked Pharoah Brown, but he been hurt for months
Yeah I understand you but u see some potential mid round targets plus guys like Bosa, Freeman and others to look at for future drafts
It’s a great match Up in terms of the game tho…
…
But I’ve had enough Marriptta beaten into my head, I don’t look forward to what looking great tonight is going to mean for eagle, talk the rest of the week
Like Mariota on the Eagles as a fit but he is a grossly overrated prospect
Prob should list all the Oregon seniors likely to go Undrafted, bet a few end up at our training camp, like Mael, Wade Kelepi, or Grandpa Bair
What’s up with all the love for Grasu? We already have a young and great C in Kelce, so unless Grasu can be plugged in at RG I don’t see the point of spending a mid round pick on him.
He has the athleticism and size to play guard while having versatility to be a backup C for us too
Well if that is the case then it will be fine with me. I just rather spend a draft pick on a G/T than on a pure C.
Yeah I get you but Grassu can play guard also like Greg said I’d consider Irving too, in the first you’re probably looking at Collins Ogbuehi
It’s a good year to draft OT. I wouldn’t be against getting Collins/Peat/Ogbuehi if they’re at the 20 spot. Heck, I wasn’t even against drafting OL in the first 2 round last year too.
Cameron Erving. He can play anywhere on the OL.
I know love him too like you said good year to get an OL
He could probably play guard. I’d seriously consider Cameron Irving if he’s there in the 2nd.
Same
From Adam Caplan: Oregon OC/QBs coach Scott Frost could draw the attention of NFL teams with OC openings. Name to watch with a few teams.
Replacement for Shurmur if he gets the Raiders job?
I don’t think he gets a HC job but I wouldn’t put it out of the realm of possibility that Eagles would let him make a lateral move.
So shall we root for Mariotta having a good or bad game? I’m undecided.
Go.Oregon! Good game!
