Eagles Go Rowing

The Eagles moved up in the 2nd round and drafted DB Eric Rowe. I’m guessing he will play CB, but we’ll have to wait and hear from Chip before we know for sure. Rowe started for a couple of years at Safety before moving to CB as a Senior. He was announced as DB at the podium so that doesn’t give us any clues.

I’m a big fan of Rowe’s. He is big at 6-1, 205. He ran 4.45 at the Combine. That’s great, but the thing that stood out to me is that he was a smart, instinctive player on the field. I covet players with good instincts. Rowe is also a physical player. His background at S means that he will hit and tackle. He has no issues with mixing it up to play the run.

With his size/speed combination, I’m guessing Rowe will play CB. We’ll see what Chip says.

Terrific pick. No matter where he plays, Rowe is another talented, athletic piece to add to the Eagles secondary. God knows they needed the help.

Agholor can make an easy transition into Chips offense with his versatility. Rowe is a great pick in a division with tough WRs, his athleticism was desperately needed in our defensive backfield.

Stress fractures in big guys feet can be nothing but can also be concerning. But, from what I read, Doctors told him it was an old injury that had calcified and healed. That’s really not that big of an issue, especially if it caused him no pain and he didn’t even know about it until xrays showed a small calcified area showing an old injury that had healed. I think it’s being way overblown and Clemmings would be a steal in round 3. This literally could happen to anyone that trains hard or plays football. We’re talking about shin splints in his foot that were only revealed with xray, that he never felt, never effected his play and have already healed. Am I missing something here?

Looks the part and tested the part of a Will OLB. He’s great at sifting through the trash, working downhill with his run reads and finishing as a wrap tackler. Although you see good closing speed on perimeter runs, he has experience as a 4-3 ILB prospect with a developed ability to read and react downhill. Despite the elite testing numbers, he isn’t a plus lateral mover or sideline-to-sideline tackler. Majority of plays come inside the tackle box, where he can read, react and fill. Hicks has starting ability if placed behind a defensive line that can keep him clean. As a grab-and-drag tackler, he’ll have to improve at keeping his feet underneath him to finish the play. Slides off too many tackle attempts, due to inability to square up and bring his feet through contact. Has above average cover skills and the athleticism to continue developing there. Excels in one-on-one coverage with backs that release into the flats or run choice patterns. Struggles to latch onto tight ends as the middle hook defender. Eyes tend to lock onto the passer, rather than locating the nearest threat. Too often covers empty grass. Hicks passed every test from onfield performance in 2014, to the 2015 Senior Bowl and NFL Combine. Packed on extra weight and didn’t lose a step. His onfield play doesn’t match the athletic measurables, but his awareness for concepts and ability to diagnose will make him a valued linebacker for 4-3 teams. Hicks has starte traits, but adds health concerns and needs to be schemed free from blockers.
