Opening Sunday

No Eagles today, but lots of good NFL games.

At 1pm I’ll be watching some of the Rams/Seahawks. I want to see how Nick Foles plays in his STL debut. Foles is a good guy and I wish him well. I’m just not sure playing behind that OL is going to bring out the best in him. Then again, playing in a more conservative offense might help matters.

I’m curious to see Seattle. They have been in consecutive Super Bowls. And now all those young stars are focused on getting paid. That can be the beginning of the end for a great team. We’ll see how much they miss Kam Chancellor. And their re-tooled OL will have a challenging start when facing the Rams DL.

We get to see Shady make his debut in Buffalo against the Colts. Shady says he isn’t 100 percent, but he is reportedly going to play. I want to cheer for Shady, but his continued comments make it less fun to pull for him.

The Skins and Dolphins play at 1pm. Go Flipper. Funny story of the morning.

Weird. Just weird.

The 425pm showdown between Denver and Baltimore doesn’t mean anything to the Eagles, but I’m very curious to see how Peyton Manning plays. He struggled down the stretch last year. Is he healthy now? Has Father Time caught up to him? We will get to see Evan Mathis play, but I’m not sure that’s all that big of a deal.

The Saints and Cardinals play late. I expect New Orleans to win. I don’t get the love for the Cardinals. If they win this game, maybe I’ll start to get it.

Tonight is the big game…Dallas against the Giants. We get to see how the Cowboys use their RBs. We get to see…is there anything interesting about the Giants? Well, beyond the JPP situation. Go check out the Giants depth chart. That is not a good looking bunch of players. Tom Coughlin is a good coach and I’m sure he’ll get something out of them, but that roster is not impressive.

I’m very curious about Dallas DT Tyrone Crawford. He just signed a big extension. The money seemed to big to me ($9M/yr). Is he a better player than I realize? Did Dallas overpay their own guy, something they’ve done a time or two in the past?

I’ll be pulling for the G-men, but this is a game Dallas should win.

I sure hope the NFL quits putting the Eagles in these Monday night openers. No fun having to wait an extra 30 hours to see your team get the ball rolling.

For those who don’t watch college football.

All kinds of NFL pundits are high on the Eagles. Now college guys are jumping on the bandwagon. I can’t decide if this is good or bad.

* * * * *

I posted some notes from Week 1 of the college season. Yesterday was a great day for CFB. I’ll get some notes up on Week 2 sometime in the next few days.

* * * * *

Moses Malone passed away.

Sad news for any old school Sixers fan. I began watching him in the spring of 1981. The Rockets played in a mini-series against the Lakers. This was best 2 of 3 in the opening round of the playoffs. I hated the Lakers, which meant I suddenly loved the Rockets. Houston won the series 3 to 2. They actually made it all the way to the finals, where they lost to the Celtics.

That Houston team is one of my favorite groups of all time. They were odd, but came together and played great that spring. Moses was the key. Not many people will recognize the other names.

Billy Paultz
Bill Willoughby
Mike Dunleavy (father of current NBA player)
Robert Reid
Allen Leavell

I had this picture of 6’8 Willoughby blocking Kareem on my bedroom wall for a couple of years.

Glorious.

So when Moses came to Philly…I was ecstatic. One of my favorite players was coming to my favorite team. And just like the Hollywood story that so rarely comes true, the Sixers dominated the regular season and then went 12-1 in the playoffs, bringing a title to Philly.

Moses made a prediction prior to the playoffs that the Sixers would win in “Fo, fo and fo.”

He was off by one.

I miss the Sixers being a great team. Those were some great days.

RIP Mo. Thanks for the ring.

I’ll be watching the IND vs BUF game. Rex Ryan vs Luck should be fun to watch. I’m curious about how Tyrod Taylor will play. The Bills have some intriguing talent now.

Don’t know what to expect from Bills off, but I’m curious to see the Colts defense. Betting they will win AFC, but they have to improve.

I’ll watch them a lot this year because of Cole. One of my favourite players.

They front-7 is not good enough to beat the Cheatriots in the AFC.

  13. 13 GEAGLE said at 1:47 PM on September 13th, 2015:

I dunno man.. One can argue they have overachieved.. Asking too much of Luck. no defense, a joke of a run game, he had TY HILTON and his other weapons were rookie Moncreif, washed up Hakim Nicks, solid Coby Fleener and Dwayne Allen……. Just because Pagano has an awesome QB, doesn’t mean they can put average at best talent around him and expect to beat the big dogs in the playoffs.. luck is awesome, but he is facing, Brady, Flacco, PeYTON, these are no slouches who have much more help around them then Luck had…. How do you compete against REVIS, browner, McCourt, a tough front 7, with No run game, TY Hilton, and average weapons around them?…

  14. 14 TheTazmanianDevil said at 1:29 PM on September 13th, 2015:

Annoyed that CBS is airing Miami/Skins, and Fox is showing GB/CHI.
    ..
I don’t buy the GB bullshit that Rodgers is so good they will be fine with amy WR. if that was true, then they would have to be MORONS to give Jordy 60mil if he is so easily replaced.. Then again, I’m sure his chicken shit, yellow belly coward afraid to line up across from Richard Sherm won’t be hard for those Packer Frauds to replace. eagles ST might score 3 TDs on those chumps..
    ..
LOL RG3 is the #3 QB/Safety… He has been completely irrelevant to the last 3 NFL seasons,
    ..
Ravens disgust me, I certainly don’t wish them well
    ..
I have enjoyed rooting for the Bills in the AFC the last few years, they were the harmless little engine that could. When shady was traded there I thought it was great, jackass opened his mouth and now he has ruined my enjoyment of watching the Bills…
    ..
Seattle wants to pass the ball with Jimmy G and Lockett, but I need to see that new look OL hold up before I can buy the switch in playing style… Lol Earl Thomas literally can’t lift his arm over his head and is starting, Cary is a downgrade from Maxwell, and the seahawks and Kam are bickering over a petty 900k. Add 900k to Kams salary and he would t even notice it. The 900k would be part of agent fees and these fools are bickering over chump change when coming off the SUPERBOWL disaster they need to be even more United then ever… I see Greed, jealousy and Envy from guys like Bennett, potentially keeping seattle from the long playpff run it has been accustomed to…

I don’t feel bad for him at all.. He thought his talent could replace hard work and film study, you reap what you sow. He has been paid handsomely and every coach has a problem with hm, no teammates stick up for him, throws his blockers under the bus once a month… At some point he has to be accountable… For the money he is being paid, he isn’t giving that franchise their money’s worth,mThe least he could do is be a a scout team safety for how much money he is stealing and what he has cost that team in opportunity cost… You wanna be the big dog, olay QB, make the Big Money? You have a responsibility to your franchise, and he hasn’t come close to living u up to it.. And his rookie year was a fraud. Didn’t take an expert to know he wouldn’t sustain that level of play only looking at his first option. Can’t see the field, it was Only a matter of time before defenses forced him to look else where, and when that haoened he fell apart… If you have to Run because you are an under developed QB, least you could do is have the sense and responsibility to your team to protect yourself… Chump!! Well paid Chump!

Maybe you wanna hold off on that judgment. They just beat the should-have-been Super Bowl champs, their defense is stacked, and Fisher is a good coach. If Foles returns even halfway to his 2013 form they’re a playoff team, and there’s a significantly more than non-zero chance they finish with a better record than the Eagles.

Probably, regrets being greedy refusing to sign a tag worth 15 mil..don’t wish this type of harm to any man, but young players are playing with Fire(no pun intended) by turning down security, to swing for the fences reach free agency and sigń a mega deal….

  36. 36 FairOaks said at 3:10 PM on September 13th, 2015:

If he had signed it, the Giants could just have put him on the non-football injury list and not paid him at all. That would eliminate the possibility of him coming back this season at all. So I guess right now, he basically stays away until the Giants think he can play and won’t use that list. It also lets him come back at any time this season — so if he’s not ready until say 10 games in, he’ll still get paid for those games.

  37. 37 Jernst said at 12:22 AM on September 14th, 2015:

yea dude…you don’t lose a finger when an explosive blows up in your hand, break a half dozen bones in your hand, and require extensive skin grafting because there’s no skin left on your hand and just shake that kind of damage off in a couple weeks. When all those orthopedic surgeons were coming out giving interviews about how the index finger is the least important for grip so he should be just fine, I almost burst out laughing. Sometimes doctors have too much knowledge and not enough common sense. After hearing what happened to his hand and the surgeries he had you’d have to be completely naive to expect a bomb going off in his hand, left him with a clean surgical amputation of just the index finger, no skin covering the hand, and the rest of the hand was just going to magically fine.

    ..
The week 1 madness is why only being a 3 point favorite to an inferior roster with key players injured scares the bejesus out of me… The Eagle vs. Atlanta game should look like Eagles vs bears BEATDOWN, but it taking place week 1, with the World jumping on our Superbowl bandwagon scares the crap out of me..Matt Ryan 6-0 in the openers, all logic points to Eagles blowout. We are a bad matchup for that team. We sit here only worried about Julio and maybe Roddy. Think the Falcons fans are only worried about two of our weapons? Doubt it… I just hate week 1, I still can’t evision how we lose this game, but I worry it will be much closer then what it would be any time with the exception of week 1.. Hopefully chip has the boys ready to play and we get thru the game healthy with a comfortable win… I’m really not in the mood for a close week 1 matchup against an inferior team. Establish our dominance over inferior rosters!!!

Now that it’s below 2 min, they’ve been using it more and they score a TD.

  91. 91 Avery Greene said at 2:26 PM on September 13th, 2015:

If I’m Miami, I don’t feel bad coming out in the 2nd half. If they keep with the intermediate passing game, they’ll be fine. Their Oline doesn’t seem to be doing a good job of run blocking, but yet they keep doing it to get 3rd/4th and short. If it fails 2-3 times, try a pass, not the same run.

I don’t see the Colts going up, just down. Andrew Luck can only do so much. The Colts have no depth and have very marginal players at many positions. To make it worse the majority of good or solid talent they do have is old, and they don’t have the young talent to back them up.

Colts will always be dangerous with Luck but for them to continue to be a deep playoff team they really need to have some consecutive outstanding drafts in which the rookies could effectively contribute immediately.

I would have liked to seen him with a decent OL last year. I thought he was improving when he got hurt, and that was with the awful OL. One of Kelce/Mathis came back the game he was hurt, the other the week after — so Sanchez had a reasonably effective OL when he got to start, where Foles did not.

That said, playing in the clutch is the one thing I need to see from Bradford. If he’s good there, we made a great trade. I hope it works out awesome for both teams.

LMAO. Carroll is actually trying to claim that he didn’t call an on-side kick to start OT but Hauschkta just mis-kicked the ball. Now maybe the K thought it was an on-side kick and no one else did, but the replay clearly shows that Hautschka pulled up his momentum and kicked it on-sides intentionally.

Other guy who impressed me today was Landry with the Dolphins. He had one play in particular where he got tackled by 3 players a good 2 yards from the first down market and still converted it through sheer effort. Got in the face of Skins’ defenders and fired his team up.

Dolphins haven’t have many dynamic offensive players over the recent years of mediocrity or anyone with much of an on-field persona. Landry looks like he has both in spades. Nice start to what was an impressive rookie year last year.

  292. 292 xeynon said at 12:19 AM on September 14th, 2015:

No. Why would you expect that?

We have shaky OL depth, an injury prone QB, and an unproven receiving corps. Even though we have some talented players and a great coach, that is not a recipe for a historically great offense.

  304. 304 BobSmith77 said at 7:17 PM on September 13th, 2015:

For all the love that Foles is getting today, he still had 2 fumbles today. Been a consistent problem in his career too as he has 17 fumbles (18 total) in 25 GS now.

Combine that with the 17 INTs and that is 36 turnovers in 29 career games; 34 turnovers in 25 GS.

It isn’t the staggering Vick-level of turnovers while he was here as the QB but it was a real issue too while he was here. Just had a lot of good luck in ’13 to avoid a couple of INTs.

  305. 305 Avery Greene said at 7:19 PM on September 13th, 2015:

Give it time. Last year he coughed up the ball way too much.

  306. 306 BobSmith77 said at 7:23 PM on September 13th, 2015:

Contrast that to McNabb who had 179 turnovers (fumbles and INTs) in 142 GS here but only had had 90 INTs in those 142 GS.

Think if I remember correctly that the recovery rate for QBs fumbles is >80% by the offense. They are concerning but obviously not an automatic loss of possession like an INT.

  307. 307 SteveH said at 7:20 PM on September 13th, 2015:

Even a couple more ints in 2013 would have left him with a staggering int/TD ratio.

The fumbles are an issue no doubt. Can’t take away that he’s on a team with a crap OL, zilch for receivers, played the toughest D in the NFL, and didn’t look bad. Especially for a guy with the perception that he got the Chip system bump and that’s why he was viable at all.

  310. 310 SteveH said at 7:32 PM on September 13th, 2015:

  311. 311 Greg Richards said at 7:30 PM on September 13th, 2015:

I know the Broncos won today but it’s really said seeing what Peyton Manning has become. He doesn’t have any hand strength anymore and that not only affects his arm strength but his ability to put a tight spiral on the ball and control its direction. I’d prefer to remember Manning at his best. And I think Denver secretly wished that he would retire so they could see what they have in Brock Osweiler, who is entering the last year of his contract.

  312. 312 SteveH said at 7:30 PM on September 13th, 2015:

  313. 313 Greg Richards said at 7:32 PM on September 13th, 2015:

Dallas can talk all the crap they want about not missing Murray, it showed right there that its bullshit. 1st and goal at the 5 yard line, and not a single attempt to pound it in behind “the best offensive line ever” that can make even bad players run like DeMarco. They didn’t even line up with a RB or threaten the play action.

But otherwise and without logic in the equation, yeah full confidence in their RB by commitee can match what Murray did. Romo will face a lot more challenging coverage this year, without teams stacking the box to stop Demarco. And that OL might be great against the run, but they’re not as dominant when pass blocking.

Giants have no pass rush at all. Run D hasn’t been great. Just bad defense overall, yet they’re bending, not breaking. Meanwhile, Beckham got smacked and has been a non-factor. Surprised they didn’t flag for helmet to helmet on that hit. Wouldn’t be surprised if he got fined. Meanwhile, couple of key big plays and Giants have the lead. I hate both teams and the Giants are less talented, so I’m hoping they pull it out.

I’m thrilled with what I’ve seen of Sam this preseason. Doesn’t change my opinion that Kelly undervalues players who don’t fit his vision. It’s actually similar to the Bradford situation. He’s talented, yes, but the Rams absolutely weren’t bringing him back. Kelly decided to move on from Foles as well, but didn’t get near as much as the Rams did for a player they were moving on from.

Kelly’s moved on from several talented players. I don’t have an issue with that, but I do question what he’s gotten back for most of those players. Lesean is the only exception.

  521. 521 Jernst said at 10:33 PM on September 13th, 2015:

I see what your saying (and I’m personally come around to liking the trade a lot), but what you said ignores the possibility that we didn’t HAVE to trade for Bradford. Just because the Browns were potentially willing to give up what we ended up paying doesn’t mean we still didn’t over pay. If the Browns offered 4 first round picks and we beat their offer ever so slightly, would it matter that the Browns (a dysfunctional organization) was willing to pay. No. Everyone would still think we over paid, even if it was the price needed to beat the Browns offer.

  522. 522 Jernst said at 10:29 PM on September 13th, 2015:

He was efficient today, but Seattle was uncharacteristically sloppy all game. They had guys out of position and falling down in coverage throughout the game on defense, they allowed a punt return. Just a real bad game from them. Watch Foles’ game tying bomb TD pass again, he’s still lofting floaters up off his back foot just like last year. Most games ET is picking that off instead of watching the guy covering fall down while the WR stops and catches the ball like a punt for an easy score. That pass looked like Foles was trying to throw a weighted medicine ball rather than a football. Foles had some good touch throws for sure, but he’s still a limited QB with sub par arm strength that has developed a persistent and fatal flaw of falling backwards and throwing off his back foot on 70-80% of his passes.

  523. 523 BobSmith77 said at 10:39 PM on September 13th, 2015:

INTs will come if he keeps that up too. Had his fumbles issues today too.

  524. 524 Jarock said at 10:39 PM on September 13th, 2015:

I saw one really bad back foot throw. The fumbles were bad. Foles arm is fine. Love his toughness. He’s not an exceptional talent, but I still think he’s got the potential to be a solid NFL starter.

  525. 525 Jernst said at 10:55 PM on September 13th, 2015:

Agreed! He is plenty good to start at QB in the NFL and while probably on the lower end of average, his arm strength is certainly adequate. But, as much as I really like Foles and was sad to see him go, I get it. He is limited. I doubt he’ll ever be great. And, Chip is going broke for greatness, which I love. Can’t commit to a QB that’s good enough if your goal is be great or else. I respect that. Andy Dalton is good enough too. Not sure if the Bengals will ever compete for anything meaningful while he’s their franchise QB.

Romo was actually running to make the tackle in the middle of the play. If i remember correctly Foles was either not attempting to block or the play was over and it was a late hit.

  579. 579 Jernst said at 11:10 PM on September 13th, 2015:

At least Romo was hit while the play was still alive and he was a threat to still make the tackle. Foles was blindside blasted by a 300 pounder with a running start with the play over, the guy already tyackled and he was just slowing up barely jogging as he approached the pile. That was a truly dirty hit.

The glass half full version of that is that the Cowboys were sloppy with the ball and undisciplined and only pulled out a victory because their opponent was more so. We won’t be.

  697. 697 BobSmith77 said at 11:52 PM on September 13th, 2015:

  699. 699 BobSmith77 said at 11:54 PM on September 13th, 2015:

Too early to say that. I thought it was more shaky play-calling than the lack of production.

Just really hurts the Giants didn’t sneak out a win here. Easy to see them getting swept now for the 3rd consecutive year by the Boys.

  700. 700 Avery Greene said at 11:57 PM on September 13th, 2015:

They had to keep 6 in to block consistently for Romo. Our defensive front is way better than the Giants. Romo won’t get that time against us. Our LBs can cover their RBs. The only issue right now is how the rest of the secondary plays. We already know Thurmond is a better fit at S, but we don’t know about Carroll in this D yet.

If Dallas can’t establish a run game against us this year, they will have a tough time beating us. They can’t replace Murray and I think it was evident when they were in the RZ.

  701. 701 BobSmith77 said at 11:59 PM on September 13th, 2015:

It was in the red zone. Agreed there but I saw a Boys’ team that was incredibly sloppy, executed poorly at times, gave the Giants 17 pts on turnovers including 2 defensive TDs, and still moved the ball at will and won.

Giants’ victory here really would have helped out the Eagles. Oh well.

    Probably trailing.

  714. 714 Jernst said at 12:34 AM on September 14th, 2015:

yea the rule is there to keep a trailing team that’s on D from basically gaining an extra timeout by stopping the clock by intentionally committing a penalty when giving up 5 yards is more beneficial than letting the offense run an extra 40 sec off the clock.

  715. 715 JoeBlow said at 12:38 AM on September 14th, 2015:

the refs gave the boy’s two extra timeouts, one after the mincey personal foul call, and the refs gave the cowboys their timeout back which is BS, if you call a timeout then you called it, that’s it. Then after ODB first down they stopped the clock for the offsides call that was declined, but the giants declined it….don’t know who i’m more pissed at the refs or Coughlin for not recognizing what was going on….this game was a complete sham

  716. 716 Tumtum said at 12:05 AM on September 14th, 2015:

I can’t copy it but from another blog, a giants one, someone wrote that in sections 7.1Actions to conserve time: if the penalty is committed by the defense, the play clock will reset to 40 seconds and the game clock will start on the ready signal, unless the offense insits on starting the clock at the snap…….the complete opposite happened here. The refs essentially gave the boys an extra timeout after they committed a penalty

Only silver lining that I can think of is that Dallas is seemingly a mentally weak team full of dumbasses and outright criminals, if they lost to the Giamts in a big upset on a national stage they’d come in here angry and looking for redemption. With them pulling a win out of their rear ends they’ll be a lot more likely to feel validated and that they earned it and, ultimately, come into philly more complacent. Even though this game should have been a huge wake up call to them to stop wallowing in the smell of their own arses, they’ll continue to buy the hype and think they’re better than they really are. I dunno…that’s all I got…the ending to that game sucked.

Does anyone remember seeing a study that a team was more likely to lose a game in the last 2 minutes if they were winning by 6 points instead of 3? (I think it was Eagles Rewind or some other advanced football metrics site.) Reason being is that teams will play for the tie when losing by 3 instead of going for the win when up by 6.

Giants totally screwed up the whole last 2 minutes of that game. Dallas at best should have had the ball back with under 20 seconds down by 3 inside their own 5 yard line. Giants should have ran it 4 times from the 1 yd line.

Cowboys dominated at the line of scrimmage, but only won the game because of a terrible pass interference call and bad clock refereeing. Giants decisions were terrible as has been said. Kempski has been criticizing the Cowboys pass blocking, but it was hard to tell if the Cowboys were that good or the Giants pass rush was just really terrible. No sacks and nothing remotely close to a sack. McFadden had a bad game, Randle broke a few but went down easily and they won’t be durable.

Oh, and plus they lost Dez Bryant and Randy Gregory for a month, so no Gregory or Hardy against the Eagles. I actually wanted Washington to win because it would hurt their draft pick, but at least the Cowboys hurt their draft pick with what should turn out to be a pointless win.

+ the Giants are awful. Wasn’t sure they’d be a pushover but they’re really bad.

  750. 750 RogerPodacter said at 9:23 AM on September 14th, 2015:

i agree – i thought the Giants looked genuinely awful. their DL looks weak without JPP, and i’m not sure he’d make it much better. their LBs looked awful. at least Merriwether (sp?) had a big play, but other than that, their DBs didn’t look great either (i’ll forgive DRC for the phantom PI call in the endzone, that was BS)
their offense seems just as bad. ODB is going to need a half dozen circus catches a game to keep this offense moving down the field. Jennings looked pretty good when given a chance, though. Flowers looked a little rough, and seemed to be limping halfway through the game.

Wouldn’t the math have to be something like we think this pass gives us an 75% chance of scoring but the run only like a 25% chance of scoring, so we HAVE to pass and risk stopping the clock.

Couple of quotes from the article… sounds like Manning may have screwed up worse than I realized. And “trying to not score” would only make sense if they had a 1-point lead. Maybe they realized their screwup later then tried to score on the last play… and messed that up by not taking the sack.

    quotes:

“As a running back, it’s really tough when they tell you not to score,” Jennings said.

So who was telling him not to score and why? This from Eli Manning may help explain:

“I thought they had used their last timeout on that play to Odell when we got the first down,” Manning said. “I thought that they only had one timeout left after that. I guess since there was a penalty, even though we declined it, for some reason that stops the clock.”

  776. 776 A_T_G said at 10:52 AM on September 14th, 2015:

Wow, that is an awesome level of ineptitude. The real question to me, though, is why Eli was the one thinking about all of those things. Eli’s role should be to lead the 11 guys on the field. There are guys wearing headsets that should be thinking about these things.

  778. 778 FairOaks said at 11:59 AM on September 14th, 2015:

I believe it was Runyan who told Westbrook not to score a few years ago. Of course, that was a situation with a 1-point lead and Dallas was in fact out of timeouts, meaning it was smart. So the time management here can basically be put all on Manning — 1) snapped the ball way too early giving Dallas about 30 free seconds, 2) was not aware that penalties stop the clock even if declined in the last five minutes of a game (the refs even helpfully told them the penalty came before the timeout) so thought Dallas only had one timeout when in fact they had two, 3) told the running back not to score when a score would have sealed the game, and not scoring would have given Dallas the ball back (even if he had been right about the timeouts), and 4) threw the ball away instead of taking the sack which gave them 40 more seconds. The coaches screwed up by giving Eli that decision in the first place, and by not going for it on 4th down, but it should have been over by then.

  779. 779 A_T_G said at 10:37 AM on September 14th, 2015:

That can’t possibly be correct. Why would anyone try not to go up by two scores with less than 2 minutes left? That only makes a little sense if you would be extending your lead to 8 points and if you have the ability to run out all of the clock. They had neither of those things. They can’t be that dumb, can they?

  780. 780 GEAGLE said at 10:51 AM on September 14th, 2015:

I’m assuming we win by 30 tonight, so I’m leaning towards ATL, but after watching DAL struggle to move the ball against the Giants, and since they lost Gregory & Bryant, it’s gonna be closer than I thought in terms of who we beat by more.

The Line and the nature of the week 1 madness I’m afraid tells me that this should be a closer game then we think, but when I look at the matchup I just don’t see how I can even make a case for a close game, so while I can’t shake the closer then it needs to be feeling, im going to believe chip has this team ready to not Play down to the level of competition and make a statement tonight….
    ..
I don’t see how atlantas coach can run the simplistic Seattle devense against us with inferior personnel.. But if they really do use their secondary the way Seattle does, like the Pats in the Super Bowl, Sam should be able to light that defense up with underneath crossing routes and we have some monster crossing route weapons with yac ability, Jordan, Huff, Agholar, sproles..
    ..
Another way to attack Seattle secondary is go with 4 Go Routes (3 WRs and a TE).. Bradford should find a weapon down the seam..
    ..
Might be a good idea to stay away from Trufant simply because after him there is a big drop off in DB talent, or we can just say fuck it like Big Balls fOles throwing at Sherm..,William Moore doesn’t scare me, and if they put rookie Jalen Collins at Nickel, Jordan should devour him..
    ..
Love to see the OL step up, make a statement and not allow Bradford to get touched, but if Sam is elite, he has to help the OL look even better then it is the way Brady helped his line so much against Pitt getting that ball out so quick..
    ..
As much as I would love to see Bradford go bonkers on this defense tonight, we have time for that, wouldn’t mind seeing the OL and our RBs dominate this game and have Bradford not have to attempt many passes like Murray did for romo last year…
    ..
Cox Bennie, Ced, Kiko and Kendricks put on a show tonight, and Curry has a big game, along with Barwin who should dominate the RG… Atlanta RBS held to 3.4 yards per carry.. Make sure Julio gets all his yards in garbage time when we are in prevent…

Matchups tell me Eagles blowout win
The Line scares the shit Out of me. If the Eagles were a 10 point favorite on the road I would kick my feet up and have no concerns about tonight. But that line is scary.. Only being a 3pt favorit is similar to the Dolphins only being a 3pt favorite in DC…. Although weren’t the bengals only a 3pt favorite @ Oakland?
    ..,
But if tonight is going to be a close 1-3pt win, what has to happen for the Falcons to make it a close game?
    1) if I missed the game and woke up tomorrow to a 1pt eagle win, the first thing I would assume is we lose someone key to injury

    2) For Atlanta to make it a close game, they probably would need their ST to outclass our elite ST unit. Our kicker would need to miss multiple FGs and our coverage units would have to give up a ST TD and maybe fumble on one of our returns.. Be very dissapointed if our ST doesn’t flex its muscles tonight and show how superior they are
    ..
    3) Julio would need to score at least 21 points on his own and I have a hard time believing we would let Julio beat us. If anything we should be forcing someone besides Julio to beat us
    ..
    4) Atlanta can’t win without winning the turnover battle..
    ..
When I look at the Matchups it’s so hard to envision how the Falcons would win in most of those areas..
    ..
The Line is really screwing with my pregame confidence.. Las Vegas has been high on us in terms of Super Bowl odds, hopefully they are way off bqe about tonight… Week 1 always scares me and Vegas odds aren’t helping any

  916. 916 Fufina said at 2:57 PM on September 14th, 2015:

Well thing is 1st games are weird. Dallas was twice the team that the Giants were last night and yet conspired to try and loose the game bar some top class idiocy from Manning/Coughlin.

Last year the Eagles laid an egg in the first half against the Jags.

Considering the ‘3’ points normally given to a home team, Vegas is saying we are a TD better than the Falcons on a neutral field and considering the amount of turn over on both sides of the ball for us that is still some healthy respect.

Think we win and win easily – reminds me of the line we had opening against the Redskins 2 years ago – easy money for someone plugged into the team.

    Turnovers can change any game.

Also, we may have better players but they still need to execute and beat the man in front of them. A few seemingly small mistakes can sway what should be an easy game.

I can’t fathom the logic at all. If you have the chance to put your team up by 10 points, two scores, you take it. The only thing crazier is Eli not taking the sack.

they thought they could run it on first and then when dallas used their (thought to be) last timeout, they would have it easy to run out the clock.

why not let the clock run to 00 and call a timeout?
