Up and Down
Posted: September 3rd, 2015 | Author: Tommy Lawlor | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 839 Comments »The Eagles fell to the Jets 24-18. This was only backups playing so it isn’t a big deal in terms of the big picture. But the Eagles got pushed around way too much on both sides of the ball. After the game, Chip Kelly wasn’t in the best of moods and basically said every player was up and down.
Was he mad at his team’s performance?
Was he frustrated with all the Tebow questions that came his way in the press conference?
Was he feisty because he knows that he’ll be ending the dreams of 22 players in the next 48 hours or so?
Whatever the reason, Kelly wasn’t happy. I think he should have been frustrated with his team. It seemed like the effort wasn’t really there for part of the game. The defense showed a spark in the 2nd half. NT Beau Allen started taking care of business. If not for some scrambles by QB Josh Johnson, the defense might have had a couple of more stops. Running QBs are deadly with a bunch of third string defenders on the field.
I don’t care about losing the game. That’s irrelevant. And I certainly don’t want to say that a sloppy performance by the backups is something to worry about. You just prefer the guys to play better than they did tonight. Not all of these guys will be working at WaWa next week.
Beau Allen is the backup NT. Some CB from this game will be part of the Nickel defense. Taylor Hart will likely be the backup LDE. Jordan Hicks might see snaps as a backup ILB. And so on. Some of these players will play meaningful snaps in real games. You can’t just ignore this game as meaningless.
I’ll watch the tape to see who played well and who didn’t.
As for Tebow, I ripped him on Twitter early in the game. That clearly inspired Timothy to pick his game up to try and make me look bad. He did play the best he has all summer. He threw some good passes and made some good reads.
That said, Tebow still was slow to make reads. There were times the offense did not look good. As Kelly will certainly conclude, Tebow was up and down. I was happy to see him show some progress.
Tebow is going to be the Eagles #3 QB. Accept it and move on. I’m not a fan of the move because I think Tebow’s limitations are fatal flaws. You don’t magically get someone to become a substantially better decision-maker. You don’t make someone a natural passer. Chip Kelly sees something I don’t. Chip is infinitely smarter than me in football matters so I defer to him. And I sure as heck hope he proves me embarrassingly wrong.
Matt Barkley will be moving on from the Eagles. He might be moving on from the NFL. Good idea, but it just didn’t work. Barkley always seemed to be a very hard worker. He just struggled with a world where he wasn’t the lead dog. I hope he goes somewhere and is able to turn things around. I doubt that happens because no matter what, arm strength is going to be an issue.
I’m sure many of you would like to read about Raheem Mostert. I’ll put up a post on him on Friday. He looked very good at times, but there are some issues. Still, I’m shocked that a role player from Purdue has looked this good this summer.
_
If Chip had called him “Mosty” I’d feel better about his chances of making the roster.
Moisty?
Terty
The optimist in me says Tebow was out of football a few years. Let him continue to learn to run the offense with tempo.
The pessimist in me says there’s a reason he was out of football.
I can’t even take seriously his time with the Jets. That whole thing was a circus. And he wasn’t ever going to do anything in NE.
I look at him as the guy who just came off that win over the Steelers in Denver. He’s got talent. There are certainly issues, but maybe there’s still something that can be developed.
If you were going to keep Mostert on the PS, since we already have 4 RBs I had the crazy idea of trying to develop him as a CB. He has WR experience so he should have knowledge of routes. He has speed and some physicality.
Not a bad idea at all. Chip moved Barner the other way so he knows what to look for.
What concerns me the most is Eric Rowe. If he is going to be on the field in the nickel in week one and I am the Falcons I would attack him on every opportunity possible. I think Rowe will develop over time, but we can not afford to drop any games early due to him being afforded the time to make mistakes in games we have to win early on in the season.
What Davis basically said is that they’ll mix and match. That if a team has a quicker, shifty slot WR they’d go with Biggers or Watkins. If it’s a bigger slot WR that you have to get physical with, they’d go with Rowe.
I believe Justin Hardy will be their starting slot receiver. Hardy is smooth and shifty as they come so Rowe would probably be the worst match up.
I’m pretty sure Leonard Hankerson is their #3 WR. I don’t know if he plays the slot or if they shift one of their starting WRs(Jones, White) into the slot.
We still have a few days to figure things out. Hankerson would be a better match up for Rowe but honestly I don’t trust Rowe right now in the slot. He needs that sideline to work with.
agreed, i would rather have Watkins starting there, if not him then Biggers…Rowe just isn’t ready for snaps on an NFL field
I don’t think it will be Rowe in slot. Biggers and Watkins while not lighting it up have performed better there. Rowe simply is not meant for the slot and I think it’s a big reason why they view him as a CB not a S.
NO TOMMY I WILL NOT ACCEPT TEBOW. I’m still holding onto that sliver of hope that we’ll sign someone else after Tebow is gone.
I am so adamantly “anyone but Barkley” that I am willing to accept him…
This is where I am. Hopefully, I’ve resigned myself to the inevitable so well that even the Teebots won’t bother me.
Tebow = Masoli. Therefore, Chip knows how to use him.
As I remnd myself daily, CK has forgotten more about football then I’ve EVER known and is a F A R better judge of talent then A N Y of us. If he wants Tim T, so be it. Like Tommy L says “accept it and move on”.
ATL coming up far more importnt things than our nr 3 QB…
Masoli = doesn’t need you denigrating him in that matter. Tebow is an effrontery to quarterbacking.
You probably support killing babies
I know your joking, but as an Eagles fan I find it offensive how Tebow fans act like he is the first devout Christian to play football.
Randall is a minister as was Reggie, so been there done that get over it.
It’s not Tebow’s fault.
I never said it was. I don’t have a problem with Tebow, I just don’t understandthe crazy fans who worship him and claim he didnt get a fair shot because of his faith.
Hmmm, what could the Pennsyltucky crowd possibly see that’s different between Tebow, and Randall/Reggie/Russel Wilson/etc. It’s almost as if there’s some obvious characteristic that’s different there…
I pointed that out to several people in the past but I didn’t want to go there. Plus we could then ask why not hitch your wages to Nick Foles or Matt Barkley who invoke the word of God as often.
Btw, Great OITNB reference.
Nah, man. It doesn’t need to be blatant or even conscious racism to be there, and it’s more than you’d think. Somebody had made a comment about how Kirk Cousins is handling the situation in Washington better than RGIII, and I thought it probably comes into play a bit there. Or how often do you hear the HEEEEEATH or KUHHNNN or even Luke fucking Wilson type of chant for a black player?
That term has been around looonnngggg before OITNB. You must not be from the part of PA with trees and mountains.
I agree, I just was trying to keep the conversation from “you are anti-American if you hate Tebow” without bringing up the racial overtones. And it always irked me how no one ever brought up those 2 when conversations turned in that direction.
I am from Allentown originally so not sure if that counts as part of PA with trees.
They were too scared. Tebow will save MANY kiss from abortion in Philly. That’s why Jesus delivered him to us!
Starting to think that in certain 3 WR sets with a dominant receiver on the outside (Julio Jones) the Birds may bring Thurmond/Jenkins into the slot with our 3rd safety (whoever that is) playing top. Haven’t seen it mentioned yet, but I think it’s a possibility. Comments?
I think Kempski may have suggested this. I have seen it suggested before. Probably our best bet.
yeah based on what we’ve seen from Rowe, that said, i think kiko or kendricks can still w/ the third WR on a shallow route
Know Thy Enemy:
current ATL WR depth chart (1) Julio (2) Old Roddy (3) Leonard Hankerson. He’s like a
Poor Man’sHomeless Harry Douglas. Also, they have no TEs, no run game, and bad OL overall
IMO, the real test will be week 2, with (I can’t believe I’m saying this) Cole Beasley
——
and more to your question, I think yes, part of the reason Thurmond is at safety is to get him on the field. 4 best DBs. He can be safety or nickel if needed, especially if the ILBs are used more to cover TEs or slippery RBs
Jenkins hinted at this a few weeks ago, saying it wasn’t about the three best corners but the five best defensive backs.
We could potentially put Rowe back at safety and bring Thurmond/Jenkins into slot.
Yeah that’s it… ROWE can just learn the safety playbook in 4 days, excellent idea….smh
Does the season consist of one game this year? Will Rowe’s career cease after week one? See where I’m going with this? smh
He hasn’t practiced at S. I like him at CB, just not in the slot.
So he could “eventually” be a corner or he could “eventually” be a safety. Many people think his physical abilities lend themselves better to safety. Time will tell. (And by time. I don’t mean next week.)
Let me clarify. In this scheme I do not think he can become a full time safety due to the fact that I don’t think his skill set has the ability to to allow him to come down and cover the slot WR in a consistent effective basis. That is one of the biggest attributes we look for in our safeties.
On another team that does not require that skill on a very consistent basis I think he could be a good safety. That is simply why some teams view him as a safety but we do not.
He is an outside CB for us. That is his best position match on this team.
Next to QB the position of CB is by far the toughest position for a rookie. Look around the league and you will see that the vast majority of rookie CBs regardless of draft position struggle in coverage from past years to this year. Rookie CBs are simply expected to struggle. When I say that at some point he will be a good outside CB for us I do not mean that he is a long term project but simply he has to deal with the normal learning curve and struggle a rookie CB is going to deal with.
He has the physical tools. He has the character, work ethic, and smarts/coachability to be a good CB for us sooner rather then later.
He has shown promise and enough flashes at times to see that he will be a good player for us.
Like many rookie CBs the expectations for him were simply set to high by media members that don’t fully know what they are speaking about and fans that continuously ignore the history of rookie CBs.
I worry about the following players making it through to the practice squad, where I’d like to stash all of them:
Jerome Couplin–has great measurable athleticism, and has played well when on the field.
Rasheed Bailey–great strength, great hands, belongs in th league
Denzel Rice–probably the best CB other than the starters who played this pre-season. Measurable athleticism isn’t there, but he’s looked goodie pre-season
Daiheem Watkins–he seems to shed blocks very well, a big, tough athlete
Raheem Mostert–fast, runs hard, what’s not to like?
Malcolm Bunche–played well, great size
Brian Mihalik–plays tough now, will be a monster after he lifts for a year
I know that Ajirotutu is a special teams player, but he’s a complete waste as a WR and I’d personally cut him and keep Bailey.
Rice was abused handily in PS Game 3. No worries about him getting to the practice squad.
I only noticed him once tonight, getting burned again.
Maehl is more likely to take Ajirotutu’s spot than Bailey.
Maehl is still PS eligible and probably won’t get poached.
It’s not a matter of keeping him around for development. Reliable, hard worker, solid on ST. Don’t think he’ll replace Tutu, but Bailey is more likely to go PS.
I think they all clear waivers.
Couplin- Has a skillset but played small school ball and probably needs another year before he’s pushing for much more than ST spot.
Bailey- The glut of WR talent to come out the last few years means there should be more intriguing and ready to contribute players.
Rice- I’d consider a fantom IR here. He needs time to develop but has shown enough that you would like to be able to do so. Can never have enough CB depth.
Watkins- There’s probably a half dozen or more guys that are young and I would have more interest in as developmental edge players.
Mostert- If he gets claimed it’s for his return ability. I don’t know that more compact classic run style games view him highly. Talent as a running back is pretty replaceable.
Bunche- Phyiscally gifted underachiever.
Mikhalik- Probably only of interest to teams that run a 34 or a run stopping LDE. I think fantom IR best idea here, but not necessary.
not going to lie it’s hard to listen to billy d w/ any credibility.
smh so dumb
Running QBs are deadly with a bunch of third string defenders on the field.
Except for, you know, Tebow…
We have the only slow running QB in the league.
If Bradford wants his knees blessed by the pope, tebow is his best bet to make that happen. Week four… the trade happens.
BTW, my guess for the 53:
QB–Bradford, Sanchez –2
RB–Murray, Mathews, Sproles, Barner –4
WR–Matthews, Agholor, Huff, Austin, Cooper, Bailey –6
TE–Ertz, Celek, Burton –3
OL–Peters, Barbre, Kelce, Gardner, Johnson, Kelly, Tobin, Molk, Andrews* –9
24
CB–Carroll, Maxwell, Watkins, Rowe, Biggers –5
S–Thurman, Jenkins, Prosinski, Maragos, Couplin –5
ILB–Ryans, Alonzo, Kendricks, Goode*, Jones(swing-OLB) –5
OLB–Barwin, Graham, Smith, Braman, Curry(swing–DLine) –5
DLine–Logan, Cox, Thornton, Hart, Bair, Allen –6
26
LS–Dorenbos
P-Jones
K-Parkey
3
*(replaced by another team’s cut)
My final 53 was similar; On O, I kept Tebow. On D, I cut Bigs, put Smith on IR, kept Hicks. My PS was Mostert, Pratt, Tomlinson, Bunche, Boyko, Mahalik, Raciti, D Watkins, Evans, Rice
How does Hicks not make it? Lets just give away our 3rd rounders why dont we.
by the measure of a ton of other folks, you’d only be giving away a 5th rounder, but I agree I’d like to see Hicks on the 53 and totally believe he’ll make it.
Just missed him on my list–replace Goode with Hicks.
My was never see any 3rd QB in a game.
…..
I haven’t seen the whole game so I’m not sure of the extent of Kiko’s play. How did he look?
The 3rd QB that won the job for me tonight: Josh Johnson. He’s been a draft-head hero since he put up a 43-1 TD-INT ratio in the Pioneer League and he hasn’t had an extended trial recently. He sure showed he could run the read option and he’ll be on the street this weekend.
I agree with Tommy on Tebow 100%. If everything that’s been said about Kelly wanting Tebow is true, Tebow was the prize pupil showing his improvement at the end of the master class, but I’d prefer someone who can read a defense better.
Defending Barkley, it was not fun to watch his butterflies come back in this situation, because it doesn’t help his cause to show he’s not yet consistent and clutch. Before the draft, he had a press conference where he said the read option is not how teams win Super Bowls, just after Kelly was hired. Roseman talked about how much he liked him after they traded up in the 4th, and Kelly said he watched every snap in college, and I pleased a rival didn’t get him as I thought he’d be a steal but confused as to why Chip Kelly would draft him instead of a mobile QB. I still think the guy can be good but he could do well to play for a rebuilding team without a QB with lower pressure.
Rowe was mostly a safety in college, which is what I said I thought the Eagles should draft him for. Then when they get him there’s “we’ll see what he can do at CB first.” When do they decide that’s not working?
Honestly, my vote would be next year. CB is a hard position to learn. Rowe has been learning two CB positions. To play safety for us, one needs CB cover skills. All those things make me believe that learning to play CB this season is time well spent.
It looks to my extremely uneducated eye like he’s playing the inbreaking routes like a safety would. He sticks on their hip until they make their break, and then drops over top of them in a sort of zone, waiting to make the tackle. He probably just needs time to retrain his instincts.
These are all interesting responses.. I think the best NFL CBs are generally advanced at coverage at college and then build on that. If Rowe can be a good NFL safety that’s what he should be, rather than telling him to tighten up, learn to press which he’s lost at, and not keep the play in front of him. Experience at safety is more important to a safety than experience at CB.
The way we use our safeties, he’s going to have to learn to cover at some point no matter what. Both Thurmond and Jenkins are used as slot corners, so it’s no surprise that the guys we see as CB/S-interchangeable (Watkins, Rowe) are being worked out as slot CBs early in their careers. I think currently, the staff sees Thurmond as the better safety right now, so perhaps they see this as his stepping stone, learning year.
He’s a better CB prospect than S. He has some angle/tackling issues similar to Damarious Randall. Additionally the processing speed and understanding of the defense is far more heavy for a S than a CB.
Worst case scenario if he’s still struggling in coverage next year then you can move him to S. He’ll have a better understanding of the playbook and all the time spent working on his cover skills will only serve as a benefit.
And it seems like Rowe’s only problem(s) are related to hands/feet at the LOS and what Mayock was saying about getting too deep on routes in coverage.
Seems like coaching could correct that in a hurry.
I don’t want Rowe active a lot early, but I think he’ll be great next year.
Wait, I thought that because Chip brought in new talent in the secondary, that we’re automatically going to be better there. I mean, replacing three NFL starters is easy because, well because, Chip. Right? (not a slam toward you personally, D3FB, just the homers)
I think the group as a whole is improved.
I think the starters are improved.
I also think that people tend to be overly positive of short term returns of draft picks.
Well, in theory, Maxwell is better than Cary. Thurmond is better than Allen. Carroll is better than Fletcher. New slot starter will be worse than Boykin.
We’re still at 3 better and 1 wose in the backfield.
The poor play was mostly backups.
if Rowe does struggle at CB we have a guy who could help him make that transition in Malcolm Jenkins (OSU CB who moved over)…. but we need more tape first…. i think our secondary is still somewhat fluid anyways in regards to this year vs. next year.
Holy shit, we’re giving up on him already?!?!
Kelly needs to stop moving young players around. Rowe seems completely confused out there. Put him in one spot and leave him there. It worked out great for Matthews in the slot last year, so I’m surprised kelly hasn’t learned from that.
Rowe was picked on by Jets backups! Jets backups!! He should have been one of the best players on the field. Ugh.
Can’t compare offense spot to a defensive spot. Maybe you can use MS as an example of a rookie being moved around…with that said …
…..
What happened to ALL those reps ALL the players take to be prepared? Not to mention all the depth we’re supposed to have…With the way CK prepares his players, better play was expected all around.
This means NOTHNG!!
..
Should always expect some serious ups and down out of rookie corners… rookie corners have no business on the field, even worse a kid who played one year of Corner, and at the beginning of August was moved to the slot where he never played before..
..
Eric RoWE sucked last night. I expect him to suck most of this year because Thas what rookie corners do, even the ones drafted in the top 10…but I’m not concerned,. ROWE will grow into a quality starting corner, it’s just not going to happen as a rookie..
..
Unfortunately I live in a ridiculuos city filled with some really dumb fans and media members, so I can’t wait to start hearing all the morons talk shit because our 2nd round pick can’t play as a rookie lol…you know it’s coming! This FANBASE can’t help itself.. How long TIL we start hearing fans rip chip for drafting a corner in round 2 who can’t play right away?..
..
Like all corners, it’s not going to be a pretty rookie year. I prefer sitting a rookie corner on the bench all year… As bad as RoWE will look as a rookie, I have zero concerns with that kid, he is going to be a stud, but the instant gratification whores will start to rip this kid, especially if Jaylen watkins ends up playing ahead of him
..
Can’t wait Til chip builds a program so deep, that no rookies will be able to crack the starting lineup… Can’t wait Til we are so deep that all rookies spend at least half the year on the bench, fans and Media would blow a gasket…
There’s already a huge thread over on the EMB calling him a bust. You can set your watch to this stuff.
I’m not in favor of carrying either QB. Most importantly, neither earned a roster spot. And if you’re down 2 QB’s, the difference between surviving a half with Tebow vs Marcus Smith handing the ball off or some ish, and picking a guy up off the streets (what’s Dennis Dixon up to?) to run a stripped-down offense until someone comes back if needed, seems practically negligible. Use the roster spot somewhere else.
If we get to the point where we need to rely on the third QB, we should just draw names of fans in attendance to play a series. It will keep the fan base engaged until the injuries pass.
Hear your name, sign the waiver, suit up. And with the size and speed of defenders, it is possible a third of the stadium would get an opportunity.
That would be awesome.
And D3FB keeps the ball on a bootleg…
Stil booting..
Still booting..
Still booting…
He finally gets outside the tackle box. Really great work by the OL to give him 9 seconds to do so.
Anddddd his fifteen yard throw was a dying duck.
And he got decapitated by the DE.
RIP ME.
Wait, you’re really Tebow?
and the winner this morning is Media Mike lol…. we should start keeping score like “Around the Horn”
Pardon me if I don’t feel like a winner if Tebow is actually on an NFL roster, let alone ours.
If it really is D3FB then we all win lol.
I agree there. Especially because it would increase some of the transparency issues with the team.
I wouldnt be shocked if Barkley was out of the NFL this season, not latching on with a team til next years OTAs/Training camp..
..
So dissapointed in Barkley. I never liked him, I never had faith in him, but for someone who has been groomed in this same offense for 3 summers, he should be Embarressed that he didn’t wipe the floor with Tebow, the least talented QB in the NFL who learned the offense 5 months ago… Even if Barkley won a close battle, it would have been a failure.. Barkley needed to show to be a level above TEBOW, instead he let tim friggin TEBOW out play him in a big game with their careers on the line… What a disgrace. Barkley made it so we probably can’t get a 3rd string center in return for him…
..
Embarressing that we spent 3 Summers grooming this kid, and he still looks just as Horrible as he did as a rookie… I didn’t need Barkley to be Great, but I needed him to look much improved, and in total command of this offense… And he didn’t even come close to performing at an acceptable level..
..
Very disappointing. Barkley has everything you’d want from a QB on paper, but he just refuses to put it all together on the field.
Uh, no. He doesn’t have NFL-level arm strength. He can’t make all the throws.
“Tebow is going to be the Eagles #3 QB. Accept it and move on.”
There is never any accepting and moving on until after a clearly stupid move, like keeping Tebow on the the roster this year, has proven to be benign and we’ve gotten somebody/something else.
I don’t care if we’re talking Tebow, taking open access training camp at a college campus away, taking away our real uniform colors, drafting Mamula over Sapp………………………..there is no over. Right is right and if it it isn’t right, it’ll be spoken about when it needs to come up. No need to bring up Tebow every day, but if he has to play in a game due to injuries to Bradford and Sanchez or if he snakes points away from better players on 2pt gimmicks, it’ll need to be said that keeping Tebow was wrong.
Keeping Tebow over Barkley is right. If those are your options and no other acceptable QB is available, then having him on the 53 is right. Having him active on game day to run a 2 point conversion would be wrong, but that’s a different decision.
I agree with Tebow outplaying Barkely. Didn’t think I’d see it, but it happened.
I’m at the point where I want to keep two QBs and find a vet (Tyler Thigpen, Jason Campbell, or a cut from another team) a few weeks into the season if we really need to sign a legit QB replacement for an injured Bradford or Sanchez.
Ideally I want a developmental QB. Regardless, I don’t trust training a QB to play at tempo in 1 week so I want the QB3 on the roster asap, and if that means sticking with Tebow, so be it.
Is anybody else having trouble putting together a 53 because of the following things
– unknown return date of Marcus Smith
– doubts being planted in the press about Ertz being back for the opener even though Dr. Chip said Ertz would be ready
– The cluster F of O-line “talent” in spots 6 though 10
I gave up trying to predict the 53 during the great Exodus of the Spring
I stopped a week or two ago because the O line is befuddling to me.
Smith and Ertz are making the team.
Who said they weren’t? But if they’re both not ready it impacts the position groups at TE and OLB to the point where the Eagles may need to cut elsewhere.
No…. IMO this roster is pretty cut n dry.
..
OL going to be the 5 starters, Dennis Kelly, Tobin and whoever they think is the best backüp center..
..
marcus and Ertz won’t go on PUP, doubt they need 7 more weeks to get healthy.. Dont really care if Ertz plays against the Falcons.. Don’t need him to hang 40 on that pathetic defense, plus I see us running the ball like 35-40 times against the Falcons… Which will be remembered as the Stampede bowl where we blow a team out mostly trampling them in the run game, barely attempting many passes…
..
The Only surprise I think We might end up seeing is only keeping 9 DBs instead of 10… But with 2 DBs Maragos and Prosinsi only being ST players, even if we keep 10, it’s like we only have 8 because we don’t want Maragos or Pros playing defense…
..
I never said Marcus and Ertz won’t be part of the 53, but their injury status will impact what other guys / positions are kept or not.
And if you’re more mentally sold on who and/or how many they keep at O-line, more power to you. I see a ton of guys who don’t stand out and I don’t ever want to see on the field.
I haven’t resigned myself to the idea that Tebow out played anything last night. All off season I saw a guy trying to transcend what he’s always been by breaking himself down and building up from scratch. It didn’t take. I saw a guy last night revert back to old Tebow. Slow in his reads? he was staring down one guy, if he got open he threw it, if not he did some Gator improvisation against 3rd stringers and it was minimally effective.
I haven’t yet concluded that the highly mediocre results he achieved will be received in any positive way by the coaching staff.
Better than Barkley but less than good enough to keep seems where I have him now.
Keep only 2 QB’s on 53; sign Kinnie to PS. Please!!!!!!
If 3rd QB is on PS, there is one less player on the bubble who has to be cut. I doubt that the market for either Tebow or Barkley is so hot that they will be snapped-up by another team quickly. At least one of them, if not both, will still be available later in the fall.
I don’t think Tebow has any p squad eligibility left and I don’t see what benefit being on the p squad would provide Barkley or the team at this point.
Put Kinnie on PS. Cut Tebow & Barkley totally. If a 3rd QB is needed later, add Kinnie from PS or pick up Tebow or Barkley from street (odds are good one of them will be available). Hope that was clearer.
I thought Hicks played well last night. Showed some good instincs. I also thought Watkins played decent. The td he gave up, he had decent coverage but a good throw by Flynn. Barkley is gone. For a while, last year, I thought he showed promise. I was wrong.
Watkins also had a nice pick. It’s heartening, because I really wonder if he’s going to be the nickel to start. I think he’s looked more consistent than Biggers, and I can’t think of any other DBs on the team that would be ahead of him to get on the field.
i’ll admit I am okay with falling back on Biggers if need be at the moment if Rowe/Watkins/Etc. don’t pan out.
Biggers, except in game 3 when the whole team quit playing in the 2nd half, has looked functional. I’m confident with him in the slot.
good veteran presence amongst the sea of youth we have at DB.
It could be worse, we could be talking about Marsh/Carmichael on the outside.
Only thing Carmichael had going for him was being named Roc lol
Funny comedian, crappy CB
http://www.afro-style.com/Images_series/roc/roc_titre.jpg
Remember when it was Roc Live? That’s when I knew that show was in trouble. Shame, because I liked that show.
He was also awesome in the 3rd Alien movie. And a convicted murderer. Quite the career arc.
HI-OH!!!!
No reason to change my opinion now,. Health permitting, I’ll stay with Watkins playing the most nickel snaps this year
Mostert was 39/157 (4.0) yards per carry and 14 / 194 receiving this preseason.
Barner was 15 / 55 (3/7 yards per carry and 4/72 receiving this preseason.
All of our returner jobs are at least 2, or ever 3, guys deep with the existing roster before we begin to talk Mostert vs. Barner.
Mostert needs to be on the team over Barner. The returns by Barner were awesome, but they were well blocked (including blocks by Mostert). We’re not fragile at KR/PR, but all of our other RBs have been dinged up in the past two seasons at some point.
Based on what took place on the field in plain view of everybody; Mostert is the better guy to keep.
http://www.nfl.com/teams/philadelphiaeagles/statistics?team=PHI
I wish they would see it like that.
I think the numbers are pretty cut and dry.
I agree they are, but didn’t seem like they let them really compete vs each other.
Don’t hold your Breath
..
Mostert can probably make the Practice Squad without being poached..
..
Barner is a lock…
Fuck Barner.
Lol. I want to keep them both. Yes I know it’s unlikely but I hate to see Mostert get snagged off the PS and find work somewhere else.
i totally agree. i thought mostert showed more as a RB than Barner and mostert also showed enough ability as a returner and elsewhere on STs.
Barner looked great on those punt returns, but he’s pretty far down the chart at PR, right? Sproles 1 Huff 2 Barner 3? would be a shame to waste a roster spot for your #3 PR and a meager #4 RB.
Barner might get picked up by another team looking for a PR.
Mostert might get picked up by another team looking for a RB.
the counter argument to all of this is that decent RBs these days seem to be a dime a dozen. heck, Monangai didn’t look half bad out there either.
Final Roster:
..
QB(3) SAMchize, SANchize, Jesus freak

Practice Squad:

5) Tomilson
6) Denzel Rice
7) Boyko
8) Randall Evans
9) Maehl
10) Raciti or Mostert
..
If I had to pick a surprise move… My guess would be Cutting BIGS to keep Denzel Rice on the 53 man roster..
I don’t think you’re far off what what they’ll do.
I’d rather keep Mostert over Barner, not have Tebow at all, Couplin over Reynolds, and one more o-line guy. But that’s my roster, not what they’ll do.
Again, I think yours is very close.
Reynolds/Couplin i feel is a coin flip.
The way I see it is that Reynolds is the least likely to get taken off of the practice squad, so he’s the safer guy to stash there.
That’s how I feel about Mostert.. Better shot of not getting Poached then Barner
The whole league had multiple chances at Barner and didn’t take him, so I don’t worry about losing him. And there is zero downside if we do. Mostert is the best RB prospect we have on the roster, that needs to be kept.
I actually think Reynolds has been playing well. It seems loke he is always around the ball. Hes got 2 ints and close to 15 tackles in 4 games. He might have more ints if he doesnt drop one and the Jets throw more yesterday.
Reynolds has some ballhawking skills and can probably play a decent deep cover centerfield. But he is just so limited as an athlete. He doesn’t even look as athletic as Kurt Coleman. Sean Considine was much better than Reynolds will ever be.
Longterm, I like Couplin potential more then Reynolds, but we already have two safeties that can’t play, MARAGOS and Proz, so the winner of Coup vs. reynolds will have to be the primary backup safety, and I think Reynolds today is way more game ready to play safety in the NFL then Couplin. Give Couplin another year on Practice squad and he should be able to take the next step and make the 2016 roster
..
8 OL vs. 9 OL, is what I struggle with the most… If we keep 9, I think that means we aren’t ready to give up on Moffitt, if we keep 8, Moffit gets cut.
..
That’s what I THINK WILL HAPPEN..
..
What do I want to Happen? Sheed Bailey over Miles Austin (I wish!)
..
no TEBOW or Barkley.. Find a better #3 or just go with two, SAM and Sanchez.
..
I like Mostert on the PS.. For a track star I like how his speed has been able to translate to the football field…. I think we have a 60/40 chance of getting Mostert on Practice squad iwth out getting poached… I would like to keep Mostert in our pipeline, but if he gets poached I won’t lose any sleep because I bet Chip finds us a quality Undrafted RB each year…
..
If I had my way, Molk would get cut… But with Moffitt not practicing at center and Vandervelde sucking just as much, my guy says chip keeps MOLK, but I’d cut him instantly if it was up to me… I’d probably also keep Denzel Rice over BIGS
..
Wonder if that OLB watkins ends up with a practice squad spot?
be nice if we only kept (2) QBs, Mostert/Bailey & Barner and we can use Lane Johnson as our 3rd string QB lol.
U won’t ever see me complain about cutting TEBOW… Be my guest.. I’ll pay for his plane ticket back to Florida…
Doesn’t Southwest have $1 flights going on right now? you sly dog….
my bad Frontier lol
😉 well played…
If you believe CK sees the 4th PS game as a show case for those who worked hard but will not make the 53, then, the more a player was prominent and productive last night, the more likely he is to be cut by Saturday. Best hope is for our favorite long shots who shined last night to make it onto the practice squad.
On a positive note, unless some clandestine bullcrap is taking place, we didn’t lose anybody important to injury last night.
Last year when the ILB body bags were filling up, I had to face the fact that talentless Casey Matthews was going to make the team. Nothing that vile has popped up yet.
tebow, that is way clandestine.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha. That has sadly been way in our face all pre-season. Unless God really cares about the Eagles in which case he’ll call Tebow back into religious service at a space station without a football team.
any news of Tebow hangin with the Pope?
I think Tebow’s group affiliations would actually offend this Pope.
amen to that
-A quasi marxist (Liberation Theology)
-Global warming is real
-God forgives you for abortions
-Jesus is down with the LGBT community
-Exploiting relgious positon for self gain is no bueno
-Against capital punishment
Yea, he’s not the evangelicals favoritest person.
Hence why I dig him.
Very few people I’ve met know Liberation Theology and even more so put it as the #1 reason (or it came to mind first).
Just one of many topics of discussion in the Greene household.
It was really quashed by JPII and Reagan era foreign policy. Unsurprising that Americans are familiar with the populist Church in Latin America since it is explicitly against corporate interests in the region.
When I took Anthro 101 the professor’s background was Latin America, and the pope was pretty new on the scene so we did a unit on it.
As someone who would identify themselves somewhere between Keynes and Marx, I really enjoyed it.
Would a Christian even care about the Pope? Isn’t that just a catholic thing?
Plenty of them did when the last one was saying all kinds of unscientific garbage, especially about abstaining, etc.
The current one actually understands thinks like science and compassion, so they don’t like him as much.
Yeah because the new one comes from, I forget the name, it’s a sub group of Catholics that believe in science…which pope was it that finally changed doctrine saying you can now believe in Aliens and God?… Where as forever the church said Catholics can’t believe in Aliens… Of course that was going to eventually change when the Catholic Church built a billion dollar telescope better then the ones Nasa has, you don’t spend billions on a telescope if there is nothing to see..
Not to take things on a theological bent, but I hope he goes full Liberation Theology in the next few years.
I’d give anyghing for disclosure… What I would pay to have 24 hours worth of access to the Vaticans fault..
..
It’s been centuries and I still get annoyed that some ignorant cunt burnt down the Library of Alexandria.. Who knows what info we lost…
Yeah, actually Catholics are Christians (in fact, they kind of started that Christian thing). I think you mean would a Protestant actually care about the Pope. However, all bets are off when it comes to certain denominations.
…Mormons…..
Eastern Orthodox and Coptics beg to differ on the blame for starting Tebowianity.
You say Constatinople, I say Istanbultomato…?
Uh, Catholics are Christians
i thought somebody noted that Watkins (which one?) was getting x-rays. dunno if its real or not.
I believe Elliot Shithead Parks was the one who “reported” that..
..
Which basically means that watkins feels great and has Never been healthier…
Lol the woman doing the play by play on Sportscenter from last nights game highlights can’t do the eagle highlight play by play without continuining to Laugh over Barkley and Tebow battle last night,… She laughed the entire time while doing the play by play…lol can’t say I blame her
That’s great.
Hopefully nobody in Washington’s front office has a spouse that says nasty things about her.
I would think you in particular would admire announcers who laugh out loud constantly while communicating.
LOL JPP is finally going to join the Giants next week… He still hasn’t let them see his hand… WTF is he waiting for? Does he think Fingers regenerate?
…..i mean he did go to college in Florida.
I cannot wait until he comes in, they NFI him anyway, and make him sit all year while retaining the right to tag him for an additional year.
Actually, using 3-D printers and “live” material, body parts are being generated in the lab currently. So far being tried on mice, but prospects for humans appear good, especially since the “live” material would come from one’s own cells and bi-pass the issue of the body rejecting “foreign” implants. It includes skin, bones, joints, and even organs.
saw that, so cool, they are starting to work on organs also I think I read
https://twitter.com/ChipWagoneer/status/639769826899181568
Interesting development to see him play well.
College tape varied between meh and oh jesus his lateral agility in pass pro makes Tobin look like Anthony Munoz
as of this minute, either:
1. The Eagles are rolling with 8 OL;
2. Someone will be acquired; or
3. Andrews has made the team.
There’s only 9 guys left. Chip may have been talking up Dennis Kelly for a possible trade but obviously OL depth is needed here.
I hope we get these cuts soon and not wait Til tomorrow…I’m ready to learn what the 2015 eagles look like….. Any surprise cuts coming?
..
There is a God…. After TEBOW playing his way into a roster spot last night(barkley sucking im sure helped), Skip Bayless isn’t on 1st Take this morning,,. Thank You Lord…. Actually, No skip, No Stephen A smith, with Kate Fagan as a guest replacement, she is pretty awesome, one of my favorite people to ever cover sports in this city,,, Kate Fagan is better then 98% of the men to cover sports in this city… Got a ton of respect for that woman
Me too. She had a handle on the Sixers beat and was sad when I saw she left town. But it makes sense, the best ones will get gigs nationally leaving us some of the dreck we have now.
guessing some today(the obvious ones) and the truly bubble ones(if they exist) are tomorrow….
They have been game planning for the Falcons and are ready to implement – they said they won’t do that until after cuts. Today is an off day, so I figure that they’d probably have most today and the rest tomorrow after some extra film review.
I’d love to be a fly on the wall in those meetings…
Maybe try reading the newspaper or a book or something instead of holding yourself prisoner to ESPN?
Nobody is forcing you to watch that crap, you know?
We’d all prefer you not watch it, so you stop cluttering up the board complaining about what you just watched on ESPN even though none of us give a shit, and nobody is forcing you to watch.
Quite a life you lead.
Love him or hate him, he does provide entertainment to the board, may as well enjoy it. Your replies are golden though, looking forward to a fun year.
Was MS2 a healthy scratch or is he still hurt?
Hurt, hasn’t practiced yet To my knowledge, Parkey is said to be scheduled to return to practice on Tuesday
If JPP comes back even better than before, I’d be interested to know how many up-and-comers look into getting a finger amputated.

I’ll take that bet.
Tweet this back: “Is it pronounced “ben-wha”, “ben-oyt” or “the real throatzilla”?”
That’s funny shit right there.
Benoit should fucking kill himself.
It’s going to be beautiful when they fall back to the mean this year.
http://mmqb.si.com/mmqb/2015/09/03/nfl-dallas-cowboys-2015-season-super-bowl-formula
Wow, Benoit loves that Cowboys D-line….
LOL – I just posted a tweet from him. He’s in love with this Cowboys team.
https://twitter.com/Andy_Benoit/status/639503393287868416
His twitter feed is a full on fellatio of the Cowboys.
Benoit is gonna be a full-on DAL-lover / PHI-hater this season because his “spat” with Jimmy K. Benoit attempted to “analyze” film to prove that Murray did leave yards on the field. He failed miserably, Jimmy called him out on it, and now we have to deal with this idiot for the rest of the season.
http://www.sbnation.com/lookit/2015/9/4/9259847/jarryd-hayne-49ers-roster-australian-rugby that’s how to lower your shoulder…lol
That looked almost too easy.
off topic but I know some of you gentlemen like posting and providing feedback on fantasy football..so here are the results of my first draft of two money league drafts last night…5th overall pick, Non-ppr, 1 QB, 2RB, 2WR, 1Flx, Def, K
QB-Ben Rothleberger, Matt Stafford ….
RB’s: Marshawn Lynch, Justin Forsett, CJ Spiller, Ryan Matthews, David Johnson
WR’s–Julio Jones, Mike Evans, Allen Robinson, John Brown, Cody latimer
TE- Dwayne Allen, Delanie Walker
K- Dan Bailey
DEF/ST – Dolphins
I already put in a waiver claim for Eagles D/ST…
solid… Duke Johnson?
nope, David Johnson…Big 6’2 220lb Back that played for Northern Iowa and in the senior bowl..drafted by Arizona in the 3rd round. I think he might eventually be this years Jeremy Hill
yeah got ya, to many D’s: David Cobb, Duke Johnson, David Johnson
Im high on Charles Johnson on Vikes this year if I can get him in right round
i have Delanie in both my leagues, i think Mariota is gonna love him
yeah man! A Tight end is usually a rookies best friend
10-Man Standard:
QB: Bradford/Palmer
RB: Hill/ Lamar Miller/C. Hyde/Abdullah/Sankey
WR: Antonio Brown/Cooks/Davante Adams/Funchess/Wheaton
TE: Walker/Donnell
Def:Minnesota
K: Tucker
12-Man Auction:
QB: Bradford/Tannenhill
RB: Hill/McCoy/Gore/R. Mathews/Bryce Brown
WR: Edelman/JMatt/Brian Quick/Terrance Williams/Ty Montgomery
TE: D. Walker
Def: Vikes
K: Parkey
Nice! McCoy(on my team too) is starting to scare me with that injury.
go get bryce brown…. that sounds familiar lol
Strong
Very nice. Is John Brown a break out candidate? I have him on my team, but he seems to be ranked lower than I expected…
The thought with Brown, at least my thought was, he has two good outside WRs, the Cardinals finally have a semblance of an OL the running game should be solid but not eat all the touches, and I don’t trust that defense so I think they are gonna have to throw it. Brown has game breaking speed and agility. He’s not going to put up a ton of points every week but he’s a guy who could have a few monster weeks.
In the same vein, Tyler Lockett.
Go take him off waivers.
great point, they have 3 solid WRs so may spread around too many touches to get that consistent scoring. I keep seeing Fitz way down there for the taking in mocks
12 team league it appears? Im mixed on Forsett with Kubiak leaving, I liked him last year a lot. Not sure about Evans and Robinson based on their QBs/teams but good draft if it is 12 team. Im just pointing out potential weaknesses, its all a guessing game anyway. Love Julio, every year I think Lynch takes a step back and then he doesnt.
My 10 man league:
QB: Rodgers, Bridgewater
RB: Demarco, Latvaius Murray, Ameer Abdullah, Isiah Crowell, Chris Polk
WR: Jordan Matthews, Amari Cooper, John Brown, Kenny Stills, Tyler Lockett
TE: Travis Kelce, ASJ
K: Blair Walsh
D/ST: Chiefs
Amari and Ameer, gambling on rooks eh. I like both also. Im guessing you took Rodgers and Kelce high which takes away some stock in other spots in a 10 teamer but really solid team. Someone sell me on Latvaius, Im steering clear besides him being the 1 right
Ameer was my favorite back in the draft, I love the kid. Joquie’s been dinged up and I think Ameer gets 200+ touches.
Latavius is basically the unquestioned workhorse. He’s got talent and I think they wont want to lean too heavy on Carr in year 2.
Basically I picked 9th in a snake, took Demarco and A-A-ron the first go round, Matthews and Kelce the second time around. I figured those four should consistently put up enough to keep me in games so I went with a bunch of high upside players that I can mix in depending on matchups.
nice, Im in same draft Sat night so Ive done a ton of mocks. Smart ideas. Ive been terrible last few years so I need ideas on trying to mix up from my normal routine. Of course taking AP last year as my first pick didnt help. I also refuse to take him out of principle this year so hope Im not first ha. I usually go RB strong and WR mixed in and get my QB and TEs late.
I like this too. JM — ugh. I had my choice of him or TY Hilton. I figured if I took JM, I’d jinx him, so I went with TY. Now I want JM …lol
eagles went undrafted? you draft with a bunch of Cowboys/Giants fans?
So it begins.
https://twitter.com/MattLombardo975/status/639811274268897280
Crap, Jay “I swear I don’t have my guys do roids even though I’m linked up with MMA” Glazer must be upset.
haha, was Moffitt the ex bronco that was out of league for a bit? We all hoped he’d be a steal reclamation project
And one of our PS candidates. Makes sense to see this early.
https://twitter.com/MattLombardo975/status/639809563991113728
as a possible PS candidate, do you think the team’s thinking is that if he is one of the first ones released it will give other teams the impression that the player wasn’t any good, making it more likely the player will clear waivers?
(wow, thats really convoluted, hopefully that makes sense…)
I know what you mean. I would need ACViking to confirm, but I think it’s 24hrs from the time they release him. That means if he clears waivers, he could be put on the practice squad before 11AM tomorrow and he could still practice with the team.
Just a thought, but I think this is why they cut some players earlier than others.
That was my initial thought too, but something tells me that the PS signing begins on Monday. Can’t find any confirmation -just what I vaguely recall from the past.
It may be 12PM Sunday. This is from last year, but I’m sure the same holds true this year.
http://www.thephinsider.com/2014/8/30/6086009/nfl-practice-squad-salary-eligibility-and-rules
Yeah, that makes senses and jibes with what I thought -all teams have the same window. It’s not about clearing waivers.
I think we fans may make too much of some of these guys and their potential. Not a lot of teams will swipe late round pick projects is my guess unless they really flash something in preseason. They all have their own players also in the same realm they probably feel they can build up.
Based on Chip’s comments about smoke-screens and such with the draft, I’m not sure Chip really exercises mind games with these kinds of things, he’s just focused on this team since he can’t control what other teams do. Mihalik might just have been one of the first players they came to a decision on.
Then again, I base this on things Chip has said, which might all be bull, so…
Whoops, missed that further down, sorry!
#Eagles are trying to trade ILB Najee Goode, according to league sources. https://t.co/SrFZIurdX3
— Jeff McLane (@Jeff_McLane) September 4, 2015
Makes sense, you have to figure we’re 4 deep at ILB with Kiko, Kendricks, Ryans and Hicks. That’s good depth.
No surprise here.
https://twitter.com/MattLombardo975/status/639820743690330112
We can get him to the PS hopefully.
https://twitter.com/caplannfl/status/639820573892341761
Bummer, I like Bailey, thought he might sneak on as a 5th or 6th receiver.
Bummer. I like him too.
https://twitter.com/BrandonGowton/status/639824797824851968
Doh, just saw this posted below.
Julian Vandervelde 🙁
What happens to Jeff Maehl? Any way he beats out Tutu
Maybe, Chip likes him. But Tutu is a good special teamer. I personally think we keep Tutu.
I agree and would prefer that but I gotta give Maehl credit, he played really well this camp and preseason.
What happens if they’d be smart, bite the bullet on Cooper, and keep both Maehl and Tutu?
Agree. But Chip likes Coop – darn it.
Considering how little Cooper played, I doubt it. The one thing they want to do is give players a chance to shine for other teams to pick them up. Not playing Cooper all that much in preseason goes against that line of thinking.

Julian Vandervelde out of practice squad eligibility, but noted to me that he always seems to find his way back to Philly somehow. Good luck
…He sure does, according to his Wikipedia page, he will be cut by the Eagles On September 4th, 2016, too. So I guess he will come back for at least one more ride. 🙂
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julian_Vandervelde
Ursinus beat Millersville last night in 5OT.
Just a friendly reminder that
D3>>> D2.
Players known to be released so far:
OT Brett Boyko
G/C Julian Vandervelde
OG John Moffitt
WR Rasheed Bailey
WR Quran Pratt
TE Andrew Geichert
DE Brian Mihalik
LB Deontae Skinner
Trying to trade Goode.
If they can trade Goode for a 6th or 7th, that means 9 guys have been let go and 13 more to come.
Also, sounds like Atlanta might have traded for OG Andy LeVitre.
He tweeted RiseUp which is the Falcons’ slogan.
If they did trade for him, I hope they cut Asamoah and we steal him.
My sleeper to make team is Josh Andrews. Was ahead of Vandervelde, who’s already been cut last night. G/C versatility may give him edge over Molk.
Eagles reportedly open to trading Kenjon Barner.
Great. Get him out of here.
??
I’d rather Mostert be on the roster than Barner. Trading Barner accomplishes that goal.
Mostert strikes me as more of an athlete than a football player
he does have a track background. not sure he played much football before college, so he’s probably pretty raw as a RB now?
that’s who he was supposed to be as a track star who was a role player out of Purdue, but he wasn’t. He showed a lot more running back ability than anyone expected, patience, vision, physicality
Hence why I want him kept.
He’s looked like a football player when blocking on special teams, rushing the football, and catching the football.
Which is nice.
and crushing a few guys too
wow. thats surprising. might mean they are leaning towards mostert?
maybe we want to get some OL depth in exchange for Barner? pickup some guy that is going to be cut from another team, that we would be unlikely to get through waivers?
Trading Barner and keeping Mostart keeps one of them from donning the Texas helmet with a star on it. I am very surprised by how well Mostart ran after rushing so little at college.
Eagles open to trading Barner?? Not sure I believe this reporting but good news for Mostert side.
GET BARNER OUT OF HERE!
Could go to Dallas?
I don’t believe it either, they can just pick up Mostert off waiver wires who has looked every bit as good and probably has higher upside. My guess is that Barner is only getting the nod over him because he has been with Chip for so long he knows the system better or something.
Mostert hasn’t shown PR ability. A few teams really need a player there.
I saw David Fipp put some nice punt returns on tape, didn’t see a whole lot from this Barner fellow
Barner puts 0 confidence in me as an actual RB. At least Mostert flashed as a runner. Hoping Barner gets traded for a backup OL.
what if the cowboys pick him up?
Mostert or Barner?
If Mostert, he wouldn’t be starting or anything, but he could be trouble in a few years behind that strong O-line. He is a year from his potential I think. Showing way better RB skills than anyone expected, but he isn’t showing the speed everyone expected from the track star. Probably needs the game to slow down around him before he feels comfortable running like his head is on fire.
If Barner he’d be an OK rotational back.
true he looks less fast but more tough then a track star
I like barner but I would go with mostert over him it hink
Don’t be shocked if the Eagles only keep 3 RBs on the 53-man roster. People speculated over Tucker or Josey would be the 4th RB last year and they only kept 3. Keeping 4 TEs and 3 RBs seems to be Kelly’s preferred roster alignment.
Do you think Tomlinson showed more than Mostert? At least Mostert is giving more on ST.
No, out of the 2 I think Mostert deserves it over Tomlinson. I could see them picking up a 4th TE on waivers though. I’m keeping an eye on Joseph Fauria of the Lions.
With as much as they plan to run the ball this year, I would hope Mostert sticks. We had 4 TEs last year and Casey really didn’t give us much. With Mostert, you can leave Huff to focus strictly on WR, and still have Mostert on the coverage units with his speed (maybe a new gunner?).
There are different body types they want on STs. Mostert wouldn’t really replace Casey’s previous role. One of the LBs or a TE could.
makes sense since trey and huff can play it if needed, but mostert is decent
Steelers trade brad wing to ny, after giants cut the punter that was talking crap
He needs to be “broke wing” after the first Eagles / Giants game. Fuck that team.
hahaahah Weatherford finally got cut!
THe Baby Saver is going to make the team. YAY!!! NO MORE ABORTIONS IN PHLLY!!!!
who?
Pope Francis I think, maybe he decided to join the squad because he like Philly so much?
¯_(ツ)_/¯
serious question: would the Pope be considered a UDFA?
I think we’d have to sign him up for the supplemental draft and hope he clears first

Louis Nix released by Texans, according to sources. Former third-round draft pick from Notre Dame
Crazy. I remember wanting the Eagles to take him in second round and being in utter disbelief as he slid. At one point people thought he would go in the first round.
Jesse Williams and Louis Nix would have been our NT’s if the masses had their way.
I guess when Wilfork is the guy in front of you, you won’t be seeing the field very often.
how can anyone see around wilfork?
Literally!
https://twitter.com/Mfranknfl/status/639847945324621825
that was one that a few people had making the 53, i think.
That means things might be looking good for Andrews.
Oh this is perfect.

I had read somewhere here on this board that Prosinski was a “lock.”
Hmmmmmmmmm. Now which one of you guys was a condescending asshole about Chris Prosinski again? I CAN’T REMEMBER.
FOOTBALL’S BACK BABY.
LOL.
Not sure who that was, but this may mean Couplin makes the team.
I have a sneaky feeling Reynolds makes it… just seems the safest 3rd safety option if someone needed to start a run of games.
Possibly. It’ll be interesting, though I am pulling for Couplin.
I’m a condescending asshole, but I don’t remember saying anybody on Chip’s roster is a “lock”. I’d stretch and say mayyyybe Jason Peters is lock.
Bradford is a lock maybe too
Dude, Bradford for Marriota straight up!
and Cooper
Well come on, don’t leave us in suspense over who the condescending asshole is.
its me, isn’t it? ahh man.
OK, that’s pretty much a surprise…
I had a feeling his spot wasn’t as secure as many thought. Can’t have too many guys just for ST, especially not at one position
JUST SAYING:
mksp • a day ago
Couplin makes this team.
There’s just too much physical talent there to cut him for a guy like Prosinski.
Obviously, it could be Reynolds, not Couplin that won the spot.
But the important thing is that it’s not Chris freaking Prosinski.
I actually thought he was the best tackler of the bunch last night. Didn’t see much coverage last night. Not because I don’t have the coaches’ film, because nobody covered anything last night and ne’er a safety around
I can’t be the only one who wrote him off as a DB simply b/c he’s white? Jerome Couplin looks like an athletic freak. He has super long arms too.
And he’s a great tackler. Love Couplin.
Raw. That tackling ability helps on STs though. He was on all 4 core STs in the Packers game, which got me thinking he could be chosen over Prosinski.
Yeah, he’s game.
To piggy back on this, they probably felt the upside and athleticism is something they didn’t want to put out on waivers. If they think he can turn into a stud, keep a spot for him.
Agreed, someone would pick him up.
We need to save a couple spots for these developmental guys. Mihalik got cut, but he may sneak through to the PS since he has zero ST value.
If Couplin is serviceable on ST, then you try to develop him and keep him on the 53.
Nice call. Couplin and Bailey over Prozinski and either Tutu or Austin are my surprise predictions.
i thought Bailey was already cut
Edit – already cut as per Greg Richard’s post a little ways down
Some guys are on the roster because of STs; their actual “position” tag is basically irrelevant. I’m sure that is why Tutu will make the team instead of Bailey, even though Bailey is better at the actual WR thing. That said… we have to have at least one real backup safety on the roster, preferably two, and if they have someone that can do Prosinski’s role almost as well (maybe Tutu?), then he is fair game to be cut. Perhaps they were hoping he could be a reasonable actual backup safety as well, and if not, then he was gone.
I think Prosinski sealed his fate last night on the play where the CB had the WR wrapped up, and Prosinski came from behind and wrapped up the CB, nearly pulling pulling him off of the WR. That was some precious shit right there.
I think one of the DBs that will be on our 53-man roster to start season wasn’t with us in training camp.
How plug-and-play are DBs in our scheme?
Someone for the nickel?
I’d think a more established S that can come in when you have 5 DBs and shift Thurmond/Jenkins to slot.
Not exactly a ton of Safety depth out there.
And we’re down the list of waiver claims.
TRADE!
when do they cut bark and axe teblow so we can pick up some one young like the cody kid that got cut?
fedajaro? what’s his name?
ESP thinks Diaheem Watkins is making the roster…..
It’s not out of the realm of possibility, but ESP doesn’t know jack
At Biggers expense?
No idea. More than likely he’ll be cut now just because ESP said that.
i think you are mixing up the two Watkins’s’s’s
Diaheem is the LB. (ILB or OLB? dunno)
Jaylen is the CB. he and Biggers are competing for the Nickel CB job.
OLB. And I bet he would take Jones’ spot.
No, just the normal expense.

Eagles cut sixth-round pick Randall Evans, according to a source

what a waste of a 6th round pick.
What a waste of life you were.
…..see above. Got em”!
what a waste of a poster
yea. Moffit sucked.
stop contributing to global warming by adding the needless BTU’s being expelled from the servers that must process your data electrically speaking…. you sir are the cause of global warming and Al Gore will have your nuts.
Yea, because 6th round picks making the team means you have tons of depth in place already. You’re a wanker dude.
Eagles peaked in third week of Preseason.
no they peaked in the first quarter of the 3rd preseason game.
it’s over johnny

PFF’s ratings are fundamentally flawed because they don’t take into account quality of competition. A player that grades averagely against starting level talent is often going to be better than a player who grades out well going against inferior competition.
that — and it’s pre-season…
So are you saying that just because Hart faced lesser competition that the ratings don’t matter or shouldn’t be relevant?
i figured he was saying that a PFF scores do not take into account the level of competition the player is facing. Since its preseason, some of the scores from the backups should be taken with a grain of salt when comparing them to others – its up to the reader to take into account the level of competition.
lets say Hart scored X pff points going against backups, and “some guy” also scores X pff points, but goes against the starters. you should probably infer that “some guy” is better than Hart.
likewise, if Hart scored X pff points going against starters, and “some guy” scores X+Y pff points going against backups, its a real grey-area. Hart is likely the better of the two in this case.
Just that you shouldn’t take the numbers literally. He hasn’t played the 6th best out of all 3-4 DEs in preseason. It just means he’s done well against who he was lined up against.
Understandable. Still a good measuring stick to see how well he performed.
I know, but I’m just posting stuff coming across my twitter feed.
If it looks relevant or interesting, it’s coming up since today is cutdown day.
i was at both open practices and was sitting right in front of the linemen drills, I thought Andrews moved really well…but i know some people have been down on him
I think these coaches live in the film room and considering the assessment of Bradford and a bunch of other players – I think if they like what they see, then I’m on board.
They have yet to get rid of anyone that has been to the detriment of the team yet.
thanks for your updates Avery
Yea, thanks.
I have zero desire to trawl those waters, so I appreciate your efforts.
I have philly sports news, info sec news, and a couple others that I follow. Because the info sec stuff is relevant to my job and career, I monitor it all day. But since I’m a rabid Philly sports fan, I can kill two birds with one stone.
Rabid fan…Eagles…killing birds…with stones…
Careful with that phrasing.
Trying to numerically quantify a subjective outcome.
Hard to do if you know exactly how everything was supposed to play out.
Dumb to even attempt if you don’t.
Yet somehow PFF has gained national credibility with rotoworld and ESPN constantly citing their worthless numbers.
Oh look this guy is getting so much backfield penetration! That’s +15 points! ALL PRO!
-Player was instructed to two gap and clog lanes at LOS.
You Guys this player did not account for a blitzing OLB! He gave up a SACK! That’s minus 3.520538 points.
-Defender was supposed to go free, QB was supposed to be responsible for ID’ing and making hot read.
Oh look a pancake block! That’s super good!
-Player didn’t come off combo block. LB made the tackle for 2 yard gain.
Not saying one way or another, but is that their actual process?
Essentially. They’ve gone out and gotten some better evaluators (Jordan Plocher, who wrote a 130 page report on the Eagles offense and tendencies this offseason for fun) recently but most of them are just Dick and Bob the friendly football fans that can’t tell you shit about technical neccessities of running a tackle-end game or schematically what players are supposed to be doing. Alot of them are volunteers (expand your public profile! maybe we’ll pay you later!) Almost all are part time.
They grade primarily off TV copy.
They assign numerical values to plays.
They get grades out in less than 6 hours turnaround.
(For reference the 4 games I did of Tobin, was just Tobin, using all 22, and took me about an hour and a half each, Tommy’s DGR’s have to take 10-15 hours minimum)
Alright but listen, Richie and Bo are pretty good guys, so take it easy on them.
In all seriousness, good points

Eagles will only have 3 draft picks on roster. #cantblamehowie
They had 6 picks. 3 will be on the active roster & it would have been 4 if not for Shepherd’s season-ending injury. So they cut a 6th & 7th round pick.
Yeah we totally suck. Brilliant analysis once again.
yea i thought the same thing
Gotta push the national narrative that Chip’s College ways don’t work in the NFL
like you said, it could also be phrased as “Chip cut his 6th & 7th round draft picks”. and it sounds…. well… pretty normal i’d say.
what happens if both of those players makes it to the PS? what does that mean? they were good, but not that good? 31 other teams passed on them again, so does that mean that they really suck? lol
i kept trying to remember where i saw this name lol. it was bugging me all day yesterday.
what name?

hahahaha its fairly obscure now.

that’s next year
Teeheeeheee
lets wait for this to play out before we do anything with Barner/Mostert.
yes
I thought ANY back can get 1500 yards? guess not…lol
any back thats not currently on the roster, i guess.
i wonder if anyone is going to tell the current RBs “yea, we HAD plenty of confidence in you, but now we want to bring in someone who was never on the team, and has never practiced with us before and knows nothing about our playbook… and he’s going to start instead of you.”
Ball has been a bust since getting there, hes looked terrible this offseason. Guess its potential based on his draft position
The road to NFL obscurity is littered with many once-great Big 10 RBs.

Owners to talk about replacing Goodell as the disciplinarian.

let it be said, let it be done.
“So let it be written, so let it be done.”
engineer…. literature always took a back seat hahaha.
All they need to do is use a third party, neutral arbitrator in disciplinary hearings. There’s no valid reason why not, except “reasons”. All the other leagues do it, and it’s caused the NFL nothing but grief when they handle it completely by themselves, as judge, jury, and executioner.
Of course, if Goodell had used the concepts of “fairness”, “precedent”, and “evidence” in any of his judgments, as opposed to “whatever is best for PR”, or “whatever I feel like today”, then maybe it never would have come to this.
Louis Nix cut makes Bennie look even better now…. and Beau. I had serious doubt about the 3-4 by passing on a 330lb mountain like Nix when he was slipping….. boy am i glad i was wrong.
It was amazing how the draftnik’s had him as a late first rounder, he had a ‘shock’ slide, and now he is out after just 1 year. Think he will get on a camp next year but he is has a long way back onto a NFL roster from here.
Tape/Talent of a first round player.
His knees are shot though.
This is why “oh screw it he’s a first round talent forget the medical evals” is a flawed take.
good point….. 330lb athletic dudes are rare. 330lb athletic dudes with good knees even more rare.
….what is your opinion on Gurley?
It’s an ACL an it’s supposedly a pretty cut and dry low risk one.
10th is still way too damn high for a running back.
They should have just taken a good back on day 2 and another on day 3 and build a good stable of backs.
This is mostly in response to the “Oh well TJ Clemmings was super talented and fell because of medicals we are so dumb for not draft him” sentiments. And I freakin adored Clemmings.
ACL’s for skill positions I feel are higher risk (Lattimore had (2) tears and didn’t even touch the field for the 49ers)…. and ESPECIALLY at #10 overall….I’m sorry but if you have a top-15 pick you better damn sure get a good player that survives to the next contract.
Yea I remember your high opinion of him and was a bit surprised when he slid.
and let me guess, Star Letulelei is the exception that proves the rule
Giants traded for brad wing!? It’s like they want to watch Eagles players run back punts on them

must be a conditional 7th or maybe a trade their 6th for our 7th and Barkley type thing.
ha, stick that dumbass with barkley
Great that we actually get something for Barks..But I Don’t like that fat tool having any inside info on us and our “college offense”
ahh true… but if you can’t figure stuff out from the tape having barkley wont help.
cardinals are a 8-8 team this year
Very true fellow son of Tdot
How can Arians, who runs a vertical offense and constantly throws deep passes with his QBs, actually trade for inaccurate, noodle armed Barkley? And here the national media says Chip is crazy with some of his moves.
good point, can you imagine if chip traded for barkley from someone else after his performances?
After last night Barkley should be out of the league.
agree but did you see those #3 QBs the cards were putting out there last year. They might make Barkley looks serviceable in comparison. Hey, he may make a roster and keep getting paid, all good
https://twitter.com/RapSheet/status/639889309399711744
they’ll get more for Barkley then they did for DJ — lol …just the ‘condition’ for a conditional pick is more than what they got for DJ…
Salary difference.

Cardinals agreed to trade conditional 7th-rd pick to Eagles for Matt Barkley, per source. Eagles get pick if Barkley on roster for 6 games.

yayyyy
they should have taken a kicking tee…at least they’d know they would get something…
Looking back on that draft, that pick still wasn’t that bad.
Not a ton of late-round talent in that draft unless I’m missing somebody.
Agree. I’m sure a handful of players picked after him have worked out for their respective teams, but hindsight is 20/20
so the Tebow circus will stay in town. Oh well, at least when the season starts it will pretty much stop. Assuming they dont do some other move of course
Is it me or does GM Chip seem extremely busy in comparison to everyone else today?
all I’m saying is, CK hasn’t shocked us yet this weekend … and I think he will…
dude’s always busy improving the roster
Why? I was on a plane, what did I miss other then Bakley trade, and trying to trade Najee, along with normal cuts?
Gulp.

I was told in the offseason the Eagles turned down a 5th from Miami this
past spring because they wanted a 4th for Barkley. Now look!
Yeah, not buying it. Not saying she made it up. Just think her source gave her bad info.
Same, maybe if it was last off-season, but not this year, it seems they would take just about anything
Better BJ = better info?
Too soon?
Might have been before the Eagles had their QB situation shaken out. With uncertainty you may not want to lose what you have.
I heard barkley would have gone in the first if he entered the previous year.
I also heard he was good.
He makes Chad Pennington’s arm look like Vick’s lol
drew brees has finally supplanted Pennington in all-time completion %
Thanks?
your welcome
I don’t understand the Brees reference there.
it’s more of a reference to Pennington who was the all-time comp. % leader for a decent amount of time, most people i knew just thought of him as an average noodle armed QB….i wasn’t trying to make a huge statement
Probably first overall – definitely ahead of Luck and RGIII.
she’s high on manjuice.
It was so cute when Matt Barkley was drafted and he thought he would be part of the Foles / Vick QB competition.
And then we were all like…..Dude……you can’t throw the ball further than 40 yards.
Butter-arm….. Everything is good but his arm ha!!!!!
Geez I drive home from work and come home to Barkley was traded.
Good. If we can trade Acho and Barner, then maybe we get something for them and not have to cut many more.
Acho was already waived with an injury settlement. In the cut to 75.
Doh, I meant Goode. It’s Friday and I’m fried after work.
That’s why it is Frieday.
I think the Cards going after Barkley is an attempt by Arians to prove CK was wrong about something.
lets hope he forces the issue
He will find out that Barkley cant throw it deep soon enough
I am stunned we got anything at all for Barkley, even a conditional.
condition-er would have been something even
Agreed.
Here is my thought on Tebow. I am not a fan of his off the field – i am a devout atheist, i find the whole hoopla about him a distraction and stupid.
But, in the 4th quarter i was having fun watching him, and i had a this feeling that if the defence had got a stop and got him the ball back he could drive down the field. I think this is not so much to do with his ‘clutchness’, but our players and the opposition believe it, the stadium feels it, coaches feel it. We play with greater belief. The opposition plays with fear because they do not want to be beaten by him, Coaches loose their cool, players make mistakes, be it penalties or missed assignments.
If we need a QB to spot start in a big game Tebow gives you a better option than Barclay who lacks confidence and the team lacks confidence in as well. Think we will not see him play a snap all year, and it will be frustrating to deal with the trolls and idiots that follow in his wake – but he will not damage the team off the field or in the locker room and in the worst case he gives you a chance…
I don’t even necessarily have a problem with him being “devout”. He wears it on his sleeve too much, to my liking. Barkely is (was) just as devout. But he kept it to himself, because it’s a personal thing.
My problem is with his fans, who are probably joined on a Venn diagram with all of the groups of people I can’t stand in this country. Rabid, psychotic lunatics with no sense of reason or proportion.
And while it is fun to watch anyone in Eagles green throw or run for a touchdown (seriously, has there ever been a famous running quarterback outside of Fran Tarkenton who _wasn’t_ an Eagle?), his throwing motion still makes me vomit sometimes.
Uhh, Steve young, russell Wilson, Michael Vick , Randall Cunningham, throw n run like tarkrnton
I think you’ve hit on what Chip sees. He had a QB at Oregon, Masoli, who also was a bad passer and reader of Ds. So Chip ran behind Blount and Stewart, played lots of QB options, and screens.
OD:
Masoli was SOOOO bad after transferring to Ole Miss.
The alumni couldn’t understand why this wonderkind from Oregon was an absolute ball of ineptitude in Oxford.
Meanwhile, Darron Thomas took the Ducks to within one point of immortality.
Chip genius AC. He was hell on wheels at Oregon – DBs bounced off him and the QB draws were killers.
Exactly.
I’d not followed Oregon very closely when Masoli came to Ole Miss. But I have a good friend, an Ole Miss alum (former Rebel basketball player), who’s taken me on a bunch of visits to the Grove followed by Ole Miss games.
After seeing how Masoli played, I began to understand what Kelly was about.
At the college level, he’d have made Barkley into Bradford x 2 (and Bradford into Peyton Manning x 5).
Anyway, Masoli got me watching Oregon.
What fans need to remember is that unconventional QBs play havoc with conventional Ds and conventional thinking. You will see Timmy run a lot, then pass over the top as we saw yesterday. With our starter talent, he’ll do just fine.
OD –
Stay in touch. You know what I mean?
Always around.
a devout atheist? how does that work exactly?
you are very committed to non-belief?
I can dig it
Exactly, when i was younger i was an agnostic, then became a solid atheist and as i have got older and seen more of the world i feel more that we need to have a strong atheist message that needs to go out and fight the anti-science narratives and movements that are holding us back and spreading miss information.

He’s like a less talented Rudy.
totally agree with everything you say and I think a lot us do. Hes a great #3 comparatively. If it gets to that point the team is in trouble though. I think Id still prefer a project there, Barkley had his time. Rare case like the Cards last year where it does matter are few and far between.
Kip Smith was pretty lousy. So lousy I wondered if he’d played football before.
Every single kick was an adventure. Every one.
But no player was more entertaining — in the way the “Three Little Pigskins” are — and with how dreary the pre-season can be, I hope he’s back in 2016.

So how late am I on this, Barkley was traded to the cards, anyone know what he was traded for?
for sucking
I was thinking a pack of ramen
I read he was traded for conditioner?
no shampoo though
and a used luffa
these both made me laugh, nice job
Washing machine ala “Semi-Pro”
THAT is a reference
Reunion in November!!! We will have plenty to talk about lol.
shame drew stanton is the #2, love to point our Cuban Missile at Palmer, have Kiko knock him out the game in the 1st quarter and get to play AGAINST Barkley, that would be so much fun…
The Eagle’s being 11-0, all sorts of crap about people who don’t show up, how ugly everyone’s kids are, etc, and please god I hope Mrs. Mang shows up (at all first and foremost because I have no idea how this ish works) as her alter-ego from the closet…who I believe was a dashing man with a large hat and fish necklace
I read 7th rounder.
A 7th if he’s on the Arizona roster for 6 games
So roster is at 61.
8 more cuts to be made.
1) Ed Reynolds OR Jerome Couplin
2) Raheem Mostert OR Kenjon Barner (Trade?)
3) Najee Goode (Trade?)
4) Jeff Maehl
5) Freddie Martino
6) Denzel Rice
7) Diaheem Watkins
8) Josh Andrews OR Dennis Kelly?
I’d say Josh Andrews or David Molk
Who’s back-up C if we cut Molk?
Vandervelde already cut, Molk is in.
Andrews can play guard and center.
I don’t think he’s played a single snap at C this preseason?
Please cut Tebow and keep one of those other guys (or pick up another QB) football gods have mercy!
Mostert gone. No trade for Barner, presumably.
Overheard at halftime: “And Matt! We turned down a fifth for you! You had to stare at the headlights one more time! We’ll have to take a conditional 7th to keep you from the Giants!”
So some reporter who blows people to get stories said a 5th was offered for Barkley? I can’t believe that.
Leave Chris Mortensen out of this
If cut down ends with Barner gone in favor of Mostert and Tebow cut; it’ll be great.
https://twitter.com/TesslerSports/status/639909736696049664
see you in game 2 mostert. dang, the guy looked good
Fuck. Shit. Cock. Balls.
I think there are 3 more
Tebow elevated to 2nd behind Bradford! 🙂
Hey now lets not kill the guy tonight
Just wanted kick while he’s down. (Actually, just having fun. I like MM here.)
Always in good fun!
That’s rude.
Barner named the starter
That’s less likely than Tebow endorsing Hillary for President.
Really disappointed to see him go. Just don’t end up in Dallas!
how could he not?
What are the odds of an Eagles player leading in preseason stats? Time for the starters to get off their lazy asses. 😉
Mostert cut.
Fuck. Bad move.
I don’t get your hatred of Barner….I think he’s clearly a better overall player at this point?
Not even close. Look at Mostert vs. Barner head to head on preseason stats this year.
Since when do preseason stats matter? Have either one of you been at practice…otas…meeting rooms….were you there during all the other stuff that matters in football? There are plenty of guys who have good preseqson stats that don’t even make the nfl.
What matters is who plays better in games. They don’t add up practice play numbers to get to a final score on a Sunday. Mostert demonstrated in the most open and honest environment possible that he is a better player. All of the other stuff is guess work and lacks transparency.
Dont talk preseason stats with people around here, many are still upset the legendary Henry Josey didnt make the team or any team in the NFL last year.
Mock Josey all you like, but he’s still a better football player than Barner.
I am not a Barner fan but in no way a guy that still has a chance in the NFL isnt a better football player then a guy that is out of the league.
Would Barner be on any other team but ours is the question.
Dude was cut by the Panthers who had no RB for years.
He was traded.
Traded for nothing when they had nothing.
Johnathan Stewart? I thought he was a real person that existed.
Did LongiDing change his name again?
Deangelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart is “nothing?”
Stewert has missed more than half the games in his career. Deangelo Williams is washed up.
Tolbert too.. I bet they regretted trading Barner when stewart and Williams got hurt..
..
Who’s roster is Deangelo on now? Steelers?
Yup
Yess sirr the Steelers, and really only relevant the 1st two weeks until Bell comes back and then Williams is back to riding that pine pony.
Charechter MATTERS!!! need to open the season in Foxborough against a pissed off Tom Brady and two key weapons Laveon and Martevis let down their teammates getting suspended…Pats are Going to score ATleast 40 on steelers Defense.. Big Ben has to try and win a shoot out without 2 of his top 3weapons…… Hopefully years pass before another eagle gets suspended for breaking the law or failing drug tests.
I’m sure they seriously regret trading him after their RBs started to drop like flies last year… I don’t really give a shit about Barner or Mostert, but I would think he would have made 95% of the teams this summer if he would have performed the way he did for us in games..
..
Mostert IMO isn’t ready for the NFL.. Like Barner Mostert needs a year on PS, come back re polished next summer. Ready to make a team…
..
chip as a GM has DONE an amazing job… You are a deep team when The most heated debates are about the #4 RB vs the #5 RB, and TEBOW vs. Barkley..
Cmon bro you’re better then that, didnt you know we’re talking about the Eagles and the 4th string RB and 3rd string QB are some of the most important positions on the field. lol
Lol I wonder if any other fanbases even know who the #3 QB and #5 RB on their roster are?
what NFL team has a 5th RB?
not even the Bills
I cant really answer that brother but Josey wasnt even signed to a practice squad so that means 31 other coaches didnt deem him good enough for even the PS. I know your hatred for Barner but he was drafted at least and still may make a team and Josey is who knows.
Josey was on Jacksonville and one other squad last year before moving on the the CFL.
ok so there you go how can a guy that is not in the NFL and couldnt crack an NFL roster be better then a guy that may actually make a roster? This isnt anything towards Barner or Josey or Mostert but I cannot agree that a guy that is out of the NFL better then one that is currently in it. Whatever though really like I am not a fan of Barner nor was I a Josey fan because he was vastly overrated.
Lol chip will find a Josey, Mostert type in the Undrafted pool after every draft,,…
..
I do hope we can get Mostert on Practice squad, but I don’t really care if he gets poached… I don’t want Sheed Bailey, Mihalik. Rice or Tomilson poached by some other scum team
lol My point exactly, it isnt hard to find guys that light it up in preseason.
…
Mihalik is the only one you mentioned that I wouldnt be upset if he was signed off the PS, the rest I really want to stay.
Have you even watched the games? Barner had 3 good moments the entire preseason..and none really out of his own ability.
Having watched the games, I’m thinking you haven’t. Definitely more than 3.
2 extremely well blocked punt returns
1 giant gaping hole to an easy TD
please name more if you think they were better than Mostert’s consistency.
So I’m assuming no one blocked for any of Mostert’s runs and he did it all by himslef?
What are you even talking about? Barner did less with the same blocking Mostert had.
Yeah, trying to downplay those returns by calling them well blocked is weak. Sproles made the pro bowl last year with returns on well blocked plays.
And he looked good both running and receiving on several non-touchdown plays. If you didn’t see that, fine. But the team obviously did.
Not to mention breaking that tackle as soon as he caught the punt…Mostert would have done that with his dick in his hand…
Downplaying the truth is weak now? Lol ok.
Yes, downplaying the truth to make a point is always weak. 😉
i don’t think it’s really clear. Even so it’s a 3rd year player on a plateau vs a rookie with upside. In the 4th slot. If you’re going to keep a 4th RB is it not to stash away someone with serious talent to be a feature in the future?
If we are keeping Barner to take punts I think that is a mistake. It’s simply will not be possible to get the ball in Sproles’ hands as the 3rd RB, he needs those punt returns
My point is…is that all we as fans get to do is watch preseason games and then become armchair gms…I tend to trust people that are in the building all the time evaluating every second of practice every single day.
Depends if they’ve earned that trust. I’m not there with Chip yet.
The greater point is there are worse things than to be disagreeing on the 4th RB! Going to be a fun year.
I’m with you there, but on a roster with 3 RBs who all have shown the ability to miss time from time to time, I’d like to see the 4th RB be the better guy to play at RB.
And Mostert did a nice job blocking on spec teams. And our returner jobs are all taken.
Lot of trust issues in Philly. Might explain why I married a Baltimore girl. 😉
we ain’t here to jerk eachother off all day, that’s for sure, but um, since I brought it up…
Maybe not as the 3rd RB, but there are other ways to get him on the field. A player like him excels with an accurate touch qb like Brees or SB. Kelly may not want him taking full time pr duties.
Then we can use Huff or another guy in that role. I can’t see Barner as having any real value.
When i see a guy like Mostert I always think of someone like Ryan Moats…to my untrained eye he was awesome running the ball…but just overall wasn’t a good enough football player.
That’s always a possibility, but I see Barner’s ceiling as much lower than even Moats.
I’m cringing here but remember Lorenzo Booker? Puke
Really? ST excels by putting top players in there, not just the best of whatever makes the roster. He’ll also make a solid backup if either of the big 2 goes down. Solid preseason, solid college career, passes the eye test – why the hate?
I think it’s because he beat out Henry Josey last year…who never made the nfl.
Have to admit, I liked Josey, too. But I have no problem with coaches making much more complicated assessments than we do as fans.
Exactly…I like Mostert too, just think Barner is the better NFL player at this point.
WOW not sure what I’m most surprised about.
.
Shocked Prosinski was cut, thought he was an absolute lock as our leading tackler on Teams last year. Not sure what it means. Do Coup and Reynoldw both make it?… Curious to see who the Eagles use on Special teams opening day. Last year we had an elite ST unit, but lost 3 key players, Proz, James Casey, and Brad Smith, only bringing in Tutu….. Apparently they think we can afford to lose prosinski and maintain Elite ST status…curious to see what ST Personel looks like in Atlanta.
..
shocked anyone paid anything for Barkley, makes sense that it was someone like Bruce Arians….. I assume we will be able to get another conditional pick for Naje,Goode..
..
Shocked Niners cut Darnell Docket after how much they lost on defense..
..
Shocked that the Titans got Falcons to take on Levitre’s massive contract in a trade… Shows how much that Falcons OL sucks..
..
SHOCKED that NT Louis Nix has already been cut by Texans
..
bills cut OG Cyril Richardson who has some athleticism is still young, would have loved to have had him in OTAs and see what Stoutland could do with him given a few months… Can’t pick him up now, too raw to help
..
I’m sure there will be plenty more surprises..
..
It would be awesome if we can find an upgrade or two on waivers better then what we currently have on the bench….. Really worried about the backüp Center position
heh
Larry Fitzergerald’s fantasy ADP just dropped by 30 spots.
Just got off a plane, besides those surprises did I miss anything else important? Saw TEBOW at the airport, not sure where he is gping, but I assume most players are taking a vacation this weekend
He has a celebration to attend in Florida. 🙂 For making the Eagles and re-starting his football career.
Seemed happy, so I assume he made the team (was it confirmed that he made the roster?). .. He was traveling with 3 chicks and some old dude..
No he’s not confirmed that I have seen. Personally, I think there still is a question about his fit. But we will know soon.
Which I appreciate your willingness to acknowledge that Tebow sucks at playing QB for how Chip has done things here in spite of Tebow possibly making the team.
E=MC squared but only in our universe. Chip lives in multiple dimensions and does not see the same rules of physics. Thus Tebow =QB in a 12th Dimensional universe.
except none of those 12 dimensions contains a QB who can play the game the right way.
sounds like his pastor and his flock…
Still what, 8 players to cut? I still hold out hope!
dont want to get my hopes up.
DID YOU PRAY WITH HIM?
I don’t give a shit about TEBOW..
There’s 31 NFL teams that don’t employ TEBOW.
Just saying.
I think you should take a stand. Boycott this team and their employment of this evangelical monster.
YOU’LL SHOW US!
Do it.
We traded Nick Foles and a 2nd round draft pick to the St. Louis Rams for Sam Bradford.
That can’t be right… We must have also got the #10th pick from the Rams.
That moment when you thought the eagles were getting a second round pick instead of the Rams…
You took that picture? Hahahaha
What pic?
Besides the signing of Wilfork, why was Louis Nix already cut? Is he still dealing with the injiry he had going into the draft? Haven’t heard a peep about him since the draft..
..
apparently his knees are shot..
D3FB went into detail earlier in this thread
Thank you sir..
Yeah we touched on it while praising Bennie and beau.
B-Loge/Marcel Dareus… Best NT’s in the game!!
Mostert agent tweeted that if he clears waivers they will definitely be back.
sounds like he ain’t clearing waivers then probably
He could just be humoring me, but his agent favorited a tweet I sent him asking if any team had ever shown interest in trying Mostert at CB.
I’d like to officially thank Matthew Tucker for his stupid non-football injury being the reason were in a flame war on here on Mostert vs. fuckboy Barner.
HAHAHAHA
In all seriousness, the coaches really liked Tucker the best out of all of the guys for RB4 and that’s why they let Polk walk.
tucker is a man
was.
oh crap really?
like bruce Jenner?
I doubt he will pull it off
A man doesn’t leave people who rely on him and and dry and stuck with Barner. A man honors his responsibilities in life.
http://www.phillymag.com/birds247/2015/09/03/kenjon-barner-with-family-in-mind/
I actually like Tucker to. He fit that Chip Kelly RB mold of a bigger one cut runner, but yea lets thank him because you’re right it really is his fault all these RB4 convo is going on lol.
They honored Polks trade request.. chip was high on Baby Huey Polk.
Jaguars made my favorite cut of the day
Something about that just makes me laugh out loud.
cap casualty
Oops didn’t see this and made the same joke
That team always makes me laugh. They drafted Tyson Alualu #10 or some garbage like that.
That was funny. I think they also took a punter in the 3rd round a couple of years ago or something.
But this dude’s name is CAP CAPI? Hahahhaha
On a positive note, their terrible roster is going to get Gus Bradley fired………………..and onto the Eagles as our new DC in 2016!
Stop it
Are you trying to led us down the garden path or something!
http://katiebrownhomeworkshop.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/kbw_path_8.jpg
A punter while Russell Wilson was still on the board…like how does that even happen.
They need to stop doing that type of stuff in the draft. The London press isn’t exactly forgiving.
Someone got paid a hell of a lot of money to slate a punter in the 3rd rd…
Maybe they needed the cap space
barkley embarressed himself with all the excuses he made last night for his play.. “Protection broke down on 3rd and Long” -Barkley…. Really Jackass? Have you learned NOTHING from RG3 disgracing himself? Complained that he didn’t like alternating quarters, one excuse after another.
.
Truthfully I NEVER liked Barkley’s demeanor or anything that has come out f his mouth since he arrived in Philly… i Don’t like TEBOW either, but at least I can tip my hat to TEBOW for ending the Barkley era….lol now I need someone to end the TEBOW era….. Please trade for MIke Glennan or Zack Metteschmerger!!!
Self-entitlement at its best with Barkley. Was anointed the best thing since sliced bread his whole life then when he hit the pros and realized he couldnt hang with the big boys he had to find excuses.
“How much you wanna bet I can throw a football over them mountains” -Barkley in 25 years
“Back in 2012 I used to be able to throw a pigskin a quarter mile” – Barkley in 25 years
…
Love the Uncle Rico references
If coach woulda put me in…id’a won the superbowl
If I can go back in time, I would of taken state!
Very true..
.
Barkley always sucked, but I’m surprised with just how bad he played this preseason..
..
Wonder if he talks shit about chip on his way out?..
..
1 thing im Going to need from Chip and Marynowitz is they NEED to start getting better value out of 4th and 5th round picks.. jaylen Watkins as of now is the best player we got out of the mid rounds, along with Reynolds.
..
Your 2013 4th and 5th round picks should be talented enough to last more then two years before the team gives up on them
That is a punk move. Like Alex Henery last year.
Ian Rapoport: Tim Tebow waived. Eagles interested in Joe Webb.
🙂
:Dance a little jig:
You son of a bitch!
don’t toy with my virgin Tebow heart man!
This is BS troll dung isn’t it?
somewhere a former Igglesblitz commenter just had an orgasm…I forgot the kids name
Please tell me this is real..the fact that Tebow was waived…not that we’re signing Joe Webb (who i actually wouldn’t hate as a # 3)
Shah8
yeah that was him
I thought he made a brief appearance on 24/7 during the last couple of days. Don’t remember which article.
Nah as fake as Caitlyn Jenner.
Which team has 3 First Round QBs on the roster? And how the heck did they do that?
Barkley *would* have been a 1st rounder had he come out a year earlier… 😉
Dumpster diving.
lol there you go
Tebow our Savior is coming again! Praise Jesus. Unborn children chant EAGLES no more abortions!! Praise tebow! All people who support abortion will soon find their a$$es in hell! Praise Tebow!!!!
Barkley gone? Anyone else? So many comments I’m guessing mostert is gone, Goode too?
Trying to trade Goode

#Eagles have informed UDFA TE Eric Tomlinson that they’re planning on releasing him, source said.
That had better mean Dr. Chip was correct and Ertz will be ready for week 1.
Burton > Tomlinson. Tomlinson is just a guy.
But Burton and Celek only = not enough active TEs for week 1 and special teams use. They could have easily kept Tomlinson for week 1, then cut him to add back another guy.
Ertz isn’t inactive though. He’ll probably just be updated to probable status on game day.
I like Tomilson for Practice squad,. See if he can grow into an eventual blocking TE replacement for Celek
Wow managed to trade matty b for a pick? gm pretty good
even better we stuck him with the pig face poser
5 left.
So you’re telling me there is still a 5/58 chance that they only go with 2 QBs?
Yep, as I said earlier, it’s Tebow and Bradford.
Then I’d have to counter their willingness to eat that much dead money with Sanchez should mean they can easily cut Cooper and eat that deal.
It’s not Chip’s money. Coop is next! 🙂
I’d actually forgive Barner over Mostert and Tebow on the roster if they cut Cooper.
Yeah, I’m with you.
Tebow is a complete waste of a roster spot, but shouldn’t really mess anybody else’s production up. Mostert should wind up on the practice squad and earn a spot soon.
Cooper is impeding the success of Huff and Ertz.
Mostert might just get signed.
I’ll be in a flame war with 4 or 5 dudes here if that happens.
That’s the way I see it. And he is a racist SOB IMHO.
You may get your wish. Having gotten rid of Boykin, and Prosinski – two key ST contributors, AND Jaylen possibly, Jeff Maehl may stick and Riley would be the fall guy.
I’d love to keep Maehl and Tutu just for special teams purposes and hopefully see Huff step it up at WR.
6 i believe
Tomlinson
It’s 6 left. We were at 60 guys after the Barkley trade
We are at 59. Kempski just published a list. So you are right. Bad math student!
http://www.phillyvoice.com/eagles-trim-roster-59/
I know, that’s why I said we have 6 spots left. (not trying to sound like an ass either lol)
Refresh the page. When my thick skull finally processed the numbers, I added two sentences.

Former #Bills RB Fred Jackson has agreed on a one-year deal to join the #Seahawks, source said. He joins tag-teamer #Beastmode
Sio Moore tweeted that he’s no longer a Raider. Don’t know if he’s been cut or traded.
So Louis nix cut, think we kick those tires? Texans dl is crazy.
Bad knees, see below for coach’s detail.
OD . . .
Belichick lives.
Nix isn’t better than Beau Allen.

Eagles trying to trade Jaylen Watkins per ESP.
If that’s the case, they’ve got to be acquiring another DB.
hmmmmmmmm. D bag Elliot Shorr-Parks makes me not believe this.
Watkins whiffing all over the place makes me believe it.
Tackling is an issue that can be rectified. A lot harder than improving pure speed/change of direction.
He wasn’t just whiffing on tackles. That “coverage” on the TD he gave up last night was putrid.
Inconsistent yes, but he’s flashed more ability to cover slot than anyone else. Even when Biggers was playing well, that was more as an outside corner. Best slot option is Thurmond which would likely mean bringing in another safety.
And I don’t think you’re wrong on your assessment of Watkins overall. That makes me question the report.
I suspect Greg you are right. Drop Thurmond in the slot and use someone new.
Another possibility for pure slot – Tony Carter of Denver. Denver is deep at DB. Carter might not have size Kelly likes, but Undlin might be able to persuad him.
Just stay in base with Thurmond over the slot?
Possibility too, but there will be times you want 5 DBs on field.
Guess we will have to rely on Rowe at some point
It really was here horrible that TD he gave up, but unless we are getting something decent In return, I can’t get behind pissing away more depth on a young corner that we drafted a year ago… We will NEVER draft a corner that will have a monster rookie year, Rowe is going to struggle like all other young corners… How do you give up developing a 4th round pick from a year ago who you had practicing at 3 different positions since his rookie year? I don’t understand this unless the compensation is juicy or their is a better corner on his way to Philly in a separate move..
…
You can find some really good players in rounds 4 and 5, and I’m tired of getting dog shit out of those rounds..
Wolff and Barkley GONE, didn’t lay til year 3… Now we give away Jaylen before year 2? I don’t understand that.. Every CB we ever draft is going to need more then one season to start looking good for us..
..
If he is traded, their has to be another show to drop shortly afterwards., I’d rather see Jaylen play in Atlanta then Rowe.. And I don’t want BIGS here
Did you see who issued that report initially?
Rice might be making the team, unless they are bringing somebody in
I dunno about that… We are already low on slot depth, I think someone a little more proven has to be added if we are going to lose Jaylen… I could see Rice make the roster, but I’m not sure THATS the kid that gives us confidence to trade away Jaylen.. I would expect Rice AND another DB..
..
Could it be the 6’2 Southward kid that Atlanta cut, who was a safety they tried to move to corner who the Falcons cut … Can’t THNK of his name, desmond southward or something like that?
Southward is a very good special teams guy — a bigger, faster version of Prosinski.
Though can’t cover worth a damn.
They haven’t cut Southward yet. Beat writers think they might.
Oh ok…. If we trade Jaylen, I’d be pretty surprised if we don’t sign or trade for another DB.,,, we can’t lose Boykin, JaCorey, Jaylen and Cut Ramdall Evans and just expect to replace them from with in.., we had nice depth, but not THAT DEEP…. Even if they put Rice on the roster, have to think they will add another CB who isn’t currently an eagle..
I saw that, and with Prosinski gone, and this possibility I’m wondering if Chip defers to his position coaches (Undlin) when he sees a toss-up. Eagles seemed pretty happy with Watkins’ pace of development last season, and prosinski contributed decently on ST.

makes sense for the Colts. They’re bereft of talent on D. Moore is a headcase however.
I dunno man, another LB who can’t cover for them? I guess their defense sucks and anything helps
You know their D sucks. They signed Trent Cole.
Yeah I have a feeling Coles numbers are headed for a nose dive..
Headed? They already did so last year. He flat out sucked.
I disagree. He was still very good against the run. Pass rush fell off. Overpaid for his role, yes.
I can find a good vs. the run OLB for a 3-4 just about anywhere. He’s paid to rush the passer and sucked at it.
It appears a real reporter is also reporting the Watkins thing.
https://twitter.com/AaronWilson_NFL/status/639952911892656133
On the Tebow dysfunction topic, I’m wondering if the flashes of decent play from him – which, granted, have not been frequent, but bigger flashes than from Barkley – offset in CK’s mind the palpable slowness of his decision-making. This guy is a train wreck for tempo.
OD’s theory — I believe — is:
Give Tebow protection, give Tebow talented WRs and RBs, and most important . . .
Give Tebow Kelly,
and you have a pretty functional guy who just wins games.
Yes AC. Chip has THE MASOLI OFFENSE which fits Timmy to a tee. Run often, use play action and zone reads, screens, and QB draws. Beat the D to death and confuse them. Chip’s made it work before and he can again.
OD:
You totally hooked me when you got me thinking about the Masoli comparison.
Once DBs get run over a few times by Timmy they will start acting abnormal. They’ll start cheating on play action, taking a first step forward, and then BOOM a pass over the top for big yards or a TD. You saw some of this last night. Ds start to get real confused when the QB is a bruiser.
Haven’t seen that fly in the NFL yet. Cam Newton is a decent passer and a better runner than Tebow…I know, I know, he doesn’t have a CK offense, but I admire your confidence.
You got to have a very good OL and very good RBs. WE have 3 pro bowl OL and a great RB stable. Believe me, Chip could have a lot of fun with Timmy.
In an emergency. That level of coin isn’t sunk into both Bradford and Sanchez per Chip’s wishes just to use Tebow first.
I know you’re not saying that Tebow is here to start, but I was following up the Cam reply.
Right MM, I’m saying that Chip can use him as a weapon, not a conventional QB weapon. At some point Chip might want to rest Bradford, he’ll then have Timmy in play. Ds will have to plan for him even though he may never play. And if he does, he’s in the hands of a master magician who has worked some special spells before.
I’d prefer that plan sat on the shelf unless there was a complete emergency.
I think what we’d find is that there are a few more guys on Sundays than Saturdays that can run and thump.
And that isn’t a knock on Chip because Chip has really done a great job turning his system into Chip Kelly for adults since he’s been here.
Two issues possibly. 1 – Barkley flat out sucked after the first pre season game.
2 – Who knows if they even carry 3 QBs or not. And how they use Tebow, or don’t, if he is kept on the 53 will tell us a lot as well.
He decides to hand off or run pretty quickly. For a 3rd qb he can at least move the offense.
So I was all ready to complain about busting a 4th rounder after only a year into his time on the team…………..but every dude taken in the 4th round of 2014 kind of sucks. Only Bryant from the Steelers really has any talent. And we already took two WRs at that point, so we weren’t taking him.
And he’s quickly following the Josh Gordon path out of the league
All you need to do is not smoke up from a month before the combine and then a month before the scheduled drug of abuse test once a year…………..and then you can get high as hell for 11 months a year every year.
DUMB
Don’t waste draft pics on a cornerback if you aren’t willing to invest more then 1 year in their development… U will never draft a corner that translates to the NFL right away, 98% of corners need more then a year before they are really ready to play..
.,
And if u are going to cut a 4th round pic after 1 year, then at least let the kid spend the year trying to focus on 1 position.. Chip only wants rookies to worry about 1 position and expands their roles in future years, yet because Jaylen was so smart and could handle it mentally, he has been jerked around between corner, slot and safety positions since he arrived…
…
I do NOT understand this, and I will MEVER agree with trashing a corner u drafted a year ago in the first 5 rounds.
…
I don’t agree with getting rid of Jaylen at all.. But I’m not going to get upset about it because I learned that often whenever we initially hear of a move chip made, we often hate it initially, and later on another shoe drops and we understand why it was a good move…. So Hopefully this is another case of ONLY seeing half the puzzle right now, and we end up supporting this when we see the full picture… At least I hope…
Who’s gonna play nickel? I know Boykin was gonna leave anyway after this year, but, after seeing the other options, I’m starting to think I’d rather have him right about now for just one more year than a 5th round pick.
If this team gets derailed because the third WR consistently burns us, I’m gonna lose it.
Biggers, when the team was trying hard, has looked good.
yea that was my assumption too…I’d still rather have Boykin
I’ll be happy to get that 4th for Boykin instead. Boykin wasn’t signing here and we’re not going to sign few enough guys to get a comp pick.
The 4th is nice. It’s not right or wrong to prefer the pick. I see where you’re coming from. I’d prefer Boykin for the year and then nothing, though, honestly. The 4th doesn’t excite me. The thought of our current DBs blowing games from the nickel certainly scares me though.
If I seriously considered us a title contender this year, I’d agree. I just think we still have some holes to fill and growth to make before I’d turn down a draft pick for a guy in the last year of his deal.
Fair take. I do see us as a serious contender THIS year. Not without question of course. But, still enough so that it makes me lean towards preferring Boykin over the future pick. I’ve been a fan for 35 years, and I’ve yet to see a complete team that doesn’t go into the season with at least 1 glaring weakness. And, every year, that weakness, that can be seen from a mile away ends up being the difference in our season. Just so tired of watching it happen.
I don’t like this squad anywhere near as much as I liked the 2002-2005 teams going into the season.
I see us on the level of the 2001 team, a team on the way up but in need of a stronger level of accomplishment before I’ll commit more emotionally.
Roughing up Tampa and embarrassing the Bears prior to losing the NFC title game due to Buck getting hurt (another reason why I think Duce is way overrated by our fans) in the 2nd half vs. the Rams is what got me whipped up.
I can’t agree with trading Jaylen after 1 year.. And I will feel that way about EVERY corner we ever draft on the first 5 rounds…. If we are trading Jaylen we better be getting some some solid trade compensation… If we dump jaylen for a 6th or 7th round pick, I can’t support that…
agreed
Chip is keeping Tebow so he can meet single devout Christian women near his age.
I have a feeling Chip might most enjoy women who enjoy listening about football all night and don’t want to talk much.
I hear this reporter from Washington is a fun time like that. People associated with Washington’s front office insist she’s willing to be on her hands and knees to really provide a great mouthpiece for a football story.
Chip has had the same girlfriend for a few years now..
Watching hard knocks. Looks like they tackle to the ground.
Is Bill O’brien the least inspiring head coach of all time or what?
“Guys…STOP sucking so badly. Seriously, guys…you need to do what you’ve been doing, but do it like so much better. Alright…come onnnnn. Play football better. Go team…”
– Every speech he’s given during that show.
I would love to see how chip does those talks.
He just puts Dave Fipp in the front of the room the stare the fear of God into them.
I think he would use a lot more reason and less F words
Dave Fipp? no words…just silence as he inflicts a thousand lacerations upon your soul.
You know if the Eagles don’t make the playoffs this year, they’re guaranteed to be on the show next year (assuming Chip is still there).
Close, but you left out about 37 “Fucks” from that sentence
anyone think there will be players on the 53 man roster….who are not already on the team?
I am not sure. The only trade rumors I have heard sound like we know we have more than 53 roster-worthy players and are trying to get a few late round picks for the extras.
It’s rare to not make some random last minute trades ala Parkey trade but I think I agree with you ATG I think there’s enough players on this roster chip may like.
Hope so.. Would be great to find one or two players who are upgrades to two of our 53 best players.,., preferably a backup center better then vandervelde and Molk and a Slot corner or #3 safety better then what we currently have
Ed Reynolds been informed Eagles are releasing him, per Caplan.
Sounds like Couplin made team unless they’re bringing in someone from another team.
Liking the sound of that!
Even if they bring someone else in, still think Couplin is on the team at this point, because I’m thinking they thought he was a good enough ST player to allow us to move on from key ST Player Prosinski…, so I’m thinking coup is safe, even if they bring someone else in….
…
I do NOT want to lose Coup, I honestly think Reynolds is better suited to play defense in an NFL game today, but although he is raw, Coup has a nice upside..
..
Curious if we can get Reynolds on Practice squad? Safeties are so scarce league wide he could be poached..
HA.
*Now* you think Couplin is on the team? Very well-deduced, sir.
After you had Pronsinski as a LOCK to make the team?
But NOW you “do NOT want to lose Coup”, after you had him cut all preseason.
What a Fraud you are. What a FRAUD.
You should have given this racket up after promising that Nick freaking Foles wouldn’t be traded.
I’m sure a lot of you have read it by now, but Robert Mays of my favorite sub-group of national media had a solid article on Sammy B finally landing in a place he has a chance. And the broader principle of the NFL systematically ruining wave upon wave of QB prospects by shipping them directly into impossibly situations to save franchises.
http://grantland.com/the-triangle/sam-bradford-eagles-chip-kelly/
I think it’s an intriguing idea. Is it really this hard to take a generation (or any given year all men between age 20 and 40 if you will) in a large country with a pretty high football participation rate, and come up with 32 solid QB’s? And we consistently come up with about 10-15. Is the skill set *THAT* rare? It’s probably not a coincidence that the functional organizations end up with functional QB’s. And functional QB’s are so hard to come by because functional organizations so rarely get an opportunity to pick up good prospects (you often have to do something extreme to get one and it almost always involves one or more of the following red flags: injury history, age, price). It does seem relatively rare that the functional QB comes in and turns an organization around.

wtf?
So Rice and Couplin making it.
If the Eagles are keeping only 9 DBs, then that means they are likely keeping 9 OL and both Molk and Josh Andrews make it(along with Tobin and Kelly).
With Pros, and Watkins not making it that leaves 2 spots, im going with Rice and Couplin. Oh! and Reynolds cut too maybe the third spot is a DB pick-up
all that exciting depth
Most teams’ OL depth is shaky
I meant the DB depth we heard so much about suddenly having
I think Chip’s mindset works like this. I have space for 4 safeties. Maragos is great on STs and provides leadership. He’s not going anywhere. We really like Couplin’s upside and don’t want to risk losing him. If I’m going to sacrifice a good STs player like Prosinski then I have to put priority on STs with other positions. Watkins is not a good STs player. Both Biggers and Rice are better on STs. Biggers has the same degree of versatility that Watkins does. We like Rice’s upside. Watkins goes.
I think them really liking Couplin dictates most of the roster decisions in the secondary.
Hard to argue if that’s the case. Couplin was the only other safety besides Thurmond that really flashed at all in the PS games.
Well done Greg. I agree with your perception of Chip’s mindset. He’s not one dimensional.
I dont understand the point of drafting him if your gonna release him a year later. He must have some of the field issues or something. He looked decent enough in coverage. Good enough to be a back up off the bench.
Chip didn’t draft him. Howie did. I don’t think Chip has any particular loyalty to Howie players.
yup, a couple teams have already given up on some players who were drafted 3-4 round in last years draft
Thats another explanation. I still think its a waste. Do we really have a ton of young dbs better than him. He was practicly a 3rd rounder last year.
The 2013 draft wasn’t particularly deep.
I think he was drafted last year, no?
yea, 4th round i believe
My brainfart.
thank friggin jesus the Ed Reynolds era is over. With him and Pros out, looks like Couplin made it.
never a fit here
yep
Maybe one ends up on the practice squad
Dont really understand the Reynolds hate.
well… you see…the problem was, he just wasnt….how do I put it…good….
What did he do so poorly?
play football
Ok, so you really have no critique of him? He didnt cover well, defend the run, etc. He just sucked?
I critiqued him before. Basically, he did nothing well.
I dont agree. He had 2 ints and could have had more, plus he showed more agression as the preseason went on.
We will never agree on him.
He wasn’t special at all.
He did many things good enough, but did no single thing very well.
He’s a middle manager. Whatever. You don’t win championships with those guys.
Neither are a lot of safeties in the NFL. He was an adequate back up and someone with potential ballhawking abilities. I can inderstand that he may not fit the defense well but he isnt a terrible player. I thought he got more physical as the season went along as well.
i think it would benefit his career if he could latch onto a cover 2 team
he might be a decent player- somewhere else.
i think he’s a backup but he could at least make a roster somewhere else
Can a guy who never played in a regular season name actually have an “era”?
Yes, but it doesn’t count in the standings.
yep
He didn’t make the team last year either.
Raiders cutting Ponder. Might be better than Tebow.
No, he really isn’t.
Better than Barkley though.
4 cuts left, who are they? I know they are trying to trade goode so that would put it down to 3
Seahawks are shopping Christina Micheals, hoping they have some sense to not trade him to an NFC team like Dallas who beat Seattle last year… Send that kid to the AFC… I want Dallas to be stuck with their 3 current RBs…
Rumor is the Boys are trying to pick up Montee Ball from Denver.
Meh.. How much better is he then what they have?.. Dunbar is allegedly their “Nickel RB”… McFadden is healthy so u know idiotic Jerry won’t cut a fellow Razorback..
..
Looks like Dion Lewis is going to make the Oatriots, replacing Shame Vereen… Good for that kid, he been fighting hard, bouncing all over the league to finally play a role on a contending team. Happy for the kid
So does it look like Diaheem Watkins really did make it?
No, still a few guys to cut. Could have made it over Marcus Smith, but I doubt it. If not, it will be a choice between 10th LB and 9th OL.
Kiko, DeMeco, Kendricks, Hicks, Barwin, Graham, Smith, Jones, and Watkins. Goode is already as good(e) as gone, if they are trying to get something for him. Am I missing anyone?
I can’t imagine Smith getting cut. If they get rid of another, I think it is the potential of Watkins versus the versatility of Jones.
You’re missing Braman.
Right, those special teams only guys get me every time.
Seemed talented but Raw to me.. thought he could be a solid practices be squad candidate, but I’ll be surprised if they keep him on the 53…
You should really, probably stop making predictions bro.
thatd be cool. theres got to be some roster bubble player who flashed and actually makes it. Seems like the worst thing for those guys to do is ball out- Josey, Bailey, Mostert. Maybe Watkins did just enough, and simultaneously, just little enough as well.
When you consider he was a DE for UAB and made some plays in the NFL as an OLB who came to the team late- theres potential there.
So what did we learn this summer? Smaller DB’s except JaCorey have no chance at making the roster.
I’m not sure if this is bad or good, but I have absolute confidence that all the DB’s will make it through waivers and be available to sign onto the practice squad should we chose to do so
Not sure about the Christine Michael trade rumor. Turbin is being waived/injured. The Fred Jackson move finally makes some sense.
This is probably below somewhere, by Eskin is reporting Jalen Watkins was cut. Guess they couldn’t find a trade.
“Despite multiple reports #Eagles r not trying to trade RB Kenjon Barner but are shopping LB Najee Goode. Im told DB J. Watkins has been cut.”
