PHI 27, NYG 7

It wasn’t pretty.

Boy, it wasn’t pretty. But it was a big win. The Eagles get back to .500 and now sit atop the NFC East. This isn’t the time to pat the guys on the back and relax, but getting back to .500 is a big step in the climb out of this season’s 0-2 start.

It would be easy to obsess on Sam Bradford’s sloppy play, but I think the first thing you have to do is praise the defense. The Giants came in red hot on offense. They started the game by marching right down the field for an easy TD, but things changed after that.

The Giants didn’t score the rest of the game. They only gained 172 yards the rest of the game.

You can’t single out one player. You have to give credit to the whole defense. The guys up front really started to dominate the line of scrimmage. The back seven covered well. This was as good as Bill Davis’ defense has looked in Philly. Really terrific showing.

  • Nolan Carroll’s pick-six was a game-changer.
  • Brandon Graham had half a sack and came up with a big 4th down stop.
  • Vinny Curry had 1.5 sacks.
  • Connor Barwin abused the RT by driving him back to Eli over and over.
  • Fletcher Cox had a sack and FF.
  • Jordan Hicks led the team with 10 tackles.
  • DeMeco Ryans played his best game of the year. He had a key PD, INT and FR.
  • Malcolm Jenkins had a FF.

The other group that needs to get a lot of credit is the O-line. They gave up one sack, but generally gave Bradford a ton of time to throw. They took control of the LOS in the 2nd half and helped the Eagles to run for 155 yards against the NFL’s #2 run defense. The line really took that game over in the 2nd half. It was beautiful.

DeMarco Murray ran for 109 yards and scored a TD. He played his best game of the year and looks to be getting more comfortable in this offense. That’s a great sign moving forward.

Chip Kelly has tons of mistakes to fix. This was one ugly game. But the Eagles found a way to win, in convincing fashion no less. They can build off this win.

3-3 feels mighty good, but I’m greedy. Let’s go win next week and keep this thing going.

Football isn’t supposed to be this hard, right?

  2. 2 John Galt said at 12:49 AM on October 20th, 2015:

Tommy, now can we keep Nolan Carroll next year or so we still need to upgrade him?

Thought he played very well tonight, and not just the pick which really was on Eli. Anxious to hear what you think when you watch the tape.

  3. 3 BlindChow said at 1:12 AM on October 20th, 2015:

No. “Carroll could be an outstanding role player, but he doesn’t look like a high quality starter.”

  4. 4 NinjaP said at 1:58 AM on October 20th, 2015:

He’s so much better than fletcher and cary so my expectations of a starting corner might be low

At what point does Chip have to consider getting Sanchez out there?

    Great question

And. The difference would be ?

  9. 9 Media Mike said at 4:56 AM on October 20th, 2015:

None. Sanchez is a .500 level starter. We saw that last year.

  10. 10 SDbirdgang said at 11:40 AM on October 20th, 2015:

I’d argue that the defense is much improved over last years. IMO it doesn’t matter which QB plays between the two of them.

  11. 11 SteveH said at 12:50 AM on October 20th, 2015:

I thought it was a pretty crappy game really. Lots of ugly mistakes. Seemed like neither team wanted to win. Giants gifted us a few scores, we were fortunate our mistakes didn’t gift them scores right back.

Huge props to the D, they played really well tonight, though that is without ODB or Randle really being able to go full for the whole game. Giants looked a lot better when ODB was running in the 1st half.

Happy we won, but with how sloppy we played it’s hard to feel comfortable despite being 1st in the division right now.

I think Carolina will be a huge test for us. First legitimately tough opponent since the Falcons in week 1.

  12. 12 ICDogg said at 12:56 AM on October 20th, 2015:

Carolina had a big emotional win vs Seattle and may be ripe to upset

  13. 13 xeynon said at 1:13 AM on October 20th, 2015:

Seth Joyner said precisely this on the Eagles postgame show. I think he’s right. Carolina is not good enough to be the last undefeated team standing. In the spirit of the “Star Wars” trailer they showed at halftime, let’s go to Admiral Ackbar for this one:

  14. 14 JoeBlow said at 1:16 AM on October 20th, 2015:

i already checked the spread to get a read on the game lol, hasn’t been listed yet i dont think

  15. 15 D3FB said at 1:23 AM on October 20th, 2015:

Think we match up well. Outside of Olsen they have no passing threats. We should be able to bottle up their run game. Biggest question is who spies Cam with Kendricks out. Likely Hicks but that’s going to be a test for the rook.

Their DL is stout but lacks a dominant rusher. They have a great LB corp, but Shaq Thompson is probably going to be out, AJ Klein is a good backup but not nearly the athlete. Josh Norman is a very good corner. Peanut Tillman is still trucking but I’m interested in seeing if we can test him vertically since their Safeties are Kurt Coleman and Roman Harper.

Bottle up Cam and be efficient on offense. Very winnable game

  16. 16 ICDogg said at 1:24 AM on October 20th, 2015:

    Maybe Kendricks will be available

  17. 17 D3FB said at 1:25 AM on October 20th, 2015:

I hope not. I’d rather give him until after the bye to make sure the hammy is completely solid.

  18. 18 NinjaP said at 1:56 AM on October 20th, 2015:

Didn’t connor do it last year and do it well?

  19. 19 D3FB said at 3:00 AM on October 20th, 2015:

Barwin had like 62 sacks that game so I’m not sure he was spying.

Could be a nice way to get MSII more reps next week. Has the size and athleticism to do it.

  20. 20 Media Mike said at 4:57 AM on October 20th, 2015:

    Very

  21. 21 Iskar36 said at 7:52 AM on October 20th, 2015:

It’s the efficient in offense part that I have a hard time seeing.

  22. 22 Media Mike said at 4:56 AM on October 20th, 2015:

Plus teams have a history of being so beat up from a Carolina game that they take a dip the next week.

  23. 23 DJH said at 12:51 AM on October 20th, 2015:

Exited about the defense for sure. Especially getting 3rd down stops. Awesome. LBs shut down Vereen too.

Ray Didinger said it well re Bradford: This was a perfect setup game for him to take a huge step forward. And he played very poorly.

How far can D and mediocre run game take us?

  24. 24 SteveH said at 12:52 AM on October 20th, 2015:

The interceptions are starting to get brutal. I think the Bradford we’re seeing might just be the Bradford that exists.

  25. 25 anon said at 12:59 AM on October 20th, 2015:

Seattle win a sb with it.

  26. 26 Mr. Magee said at 1:09 AM on October 20th, 2015:

    Not that far

  27. 27 xeynon said at 12:53 AM on October 20th, 2015:

Yes, we’re in first place. Yes, our defense is very solid, and vastly improved from last year. But it’s hard for me to get too excited, because our quarterback isn’t good. And it’s extremely difficult to win anything of consequence if your quarterback isn’t good. Look at this team, then look at other first place teams like the Patriots or Packers. The gap is just as wide as it’s ever been.

  28. 28 eagleyankfan said at 8:39 AM on October 20th, 2015:

At the beginning of the year. I said to give Bradford time. He’s in a whole new city, whole new offense AND coming off a serious injury. You have to give him time I said. 6 games is enough time to see how bad he is. He’s brutal. This is the worst fear happening. Not having a future Q and we won’t be in any position to draft one. Maybe CK will trade some more draft picks to another team for their QB?

  29. 29 SDbirdgang said at 1:04 AM on October 20th, 2015:

My prediction of 13-3 is still alive.

  30. 30 Media Mike said at 5:06 AM on October 20th, 2015:

    So is my 11-5.

Acceptable losses include New England and Detroit by my original breakdowns.

We are 100% out of games vs. the NFC South, NFC East, Detroit, and Arizona that I’d tolerate losing. I would also not be ok with losing to Buffalo.

So I will permit a loss vs. Miami for our 11-5 finish.

  31. 31 SDbirdgang said at 11:37 AM on October 20th, 2015:

The TEAM is starting to gel….don’t believe me? Usually team that commit 4 turnovers lose not win by 20 pts. Bradfords got to clean it up but the Eagles going to be an easy out for any team left on the schedule.

  32. 32 JoeBlow said at 1:06 AM on October 20th, 2015:

I for one would like to see Bradford under center more, especialy early in the game. Might get the run game going a bit faster and and you can get Sam in some play-action passes which might give him easier throws in first halves.

I wasn’t exactly “happy” about the trade for Sam, but i understood it. My biggest concern for him was the knee, but now i’m just concerned about him reading defenses making the right decisions. This should have been a cupcake of a game for him, but he just never threw the ball with any confidence the entire game

He’s going to be playing a much better defense and a few guys who really ballhawk and he has to play the position with confidence or it’s Sanchize time

Stat of night- Eagles O turned it over 4 times which turned into 0 points for the G-Men

  33. 33 Media Mike said at 5:06 AM on October 20th, 2015:

That should also tell you something about the Giants!

  34. 34 CrackSammich said at 9:15 AM on October 20th, 2015:

He seems to generally be making decisions just fine, but consistently under throws the ball. Except when he wayyyy overthrew Ertz.

  35. 35 Eagles_Fan_in_San_Fran said at 1:15 AM on October 20th, 2015:

Yes, we won convincingly over the G-men, and we should be the favorite now to win the division, but does anyone really think this team is ever going to go anywhere with Bradford? I sure as hell don’t.

  36. 36 dillinja said at 1:25 AM on October 20th, 2015:

No, don’t think so. Eagles haven’t really had a legit QB since McNabb. So damn hard to find a high quality NFL QB.

People can talk about Foles vs Bradford vs Sanchez, but its basically a debate about three essentially similar QBs. None are or were the answer.

  37. 37 anon said at 1:41 AM on October 20th, 2015:

Can’t believe we’ve been in the QB shitter for so long.

  38. 38 NinjaP said at 1:55 AM on October 20th, 2015:

Thats the problem with being mediocre in the NFL. QBs get drafted by bad teams.

  39. 39 bdbd20 said at 8:16 AM on October 20th, 2015:

Yup. Here lies the real issue. How do you find a franchise QB? Is it worth the risk of tanking a season? We just have to see how this plays out with Bradford. Despite the mistakes, he did make some nice throws.

  40. 40 Anders said at 8:21 AM on October 20th, 2015:

Problem is that tanking might not even be worth it. Remember 2013 with zero good QBs?

  41. 41 bdbd20 said at 8:26 AM on October 20th, 2015:

Yup. We had the #4 pick in 2013. Best available QB’s were EJ Manuel, Geno Smith and Mike Glennon.

Obviously everyone remembers 2012 with Luck. Would we be happy with RG3 or Tannehill?

  42. 42 Anders said at 8:27 AM on October 20th, 2015:

    Would love both with Kelly

  43. 43 bdbd20 said at 8:38 AM on October 20th, 2015:

I’m not a fan of either. They both seem to have issues reading defenses and making good decisions. Not sure we have anything better in Sam, but I don’t think anything better was available at the time.

I’m not sure the 2015 draft will bring any better options either. Goff and Cook look good right now, but the bad NFL teams are pretty crappy now. It might take a 2-14 record to get one of those guys.

  44. 44 ChoTime said at 10:00 AM on October 20th, 2015:

I would have liked to see RG3 here. Heck I would be down with CK giving him a look-see anyway. SB was also a reclamation project.

  45. 45 mksp said at 8:56 AM on October 20th, 2015:

WE COULD HAVE DRAFTED TEDDY FREAKING BRIDGEWATER.

Not enough people talk about the fact that Nick Foles has effectively screwed us over at the QB position for a decade.

If he hadn’t made a deal with the devil for one season, we could be set with one of the really good young QBs that just so happens to be perfect for this system.

  46. 46 bdbd20 said at 9:10 AM on October 20th, 2015:

Ha. I remember that draft and thinking that it would be interesting if Chip drafted Teddy.

Obviously, it would be crazy to replace a guy that went 27-2 and left the playoff game with the lead.

  47. 47 Anders said at 9:16 AM on October 20th, 2015:

I think Bridgewater might have been a tad overrated coming into this season.

It’s funny, I was watching Sam miss receivers by 3-8 yards on pass after pass, and it occurred to me: For all the flack McNabb got for his accuracy, at least when he missed it just went into to ground harmlessly. It was frustrating, but at least it didn’t lose us possessions.

  50. 50 Nelson ALGore said at 3:49 AM on October 20th, 2015:

I never thought the 9-7 Gmen would go anywhere in ’07 let alone topple the undefeated cheatriots… Never say never lets steam roll this crap division and then worry about the supposed pecking order

  51. 51 Anders said at 3:51 AM on October 20th, 2015:

With our defense and if the offense gets into a roll, we can be scary.

  52. 52 Always Hopeful said at 6:59 AM on October 20th, 2015:

Improbable, but I like the way you think! We just need the offense to be competent…JUST COMPETENT and we can make a run. Let’s see how it unfolds. Last night was slightly torturous until I expected nothing from Sam and expected the defense to carry us.

  71. 71 Media Mike said at 3:54 PM on October 20th, 2015:

He’s 5’10 / 250. That might tell us something about the ACC.

In either case he’s rostered as a fullback with the Giants and that free shot he took on Bradford wasn’t ideal.

All in all Tobin blocked well however.

Caller on the post-game show said it best:

The Eagles traded for Bradford because he was supposed to be an upgrade at QB over Foles. It cost the Eagles a 2nd round pick and the opportunity cost of having to pick up Bradford’s considerable salary too. So far he hasn’t been any better than Foles this year or Foles/Sanchez last year.

  114. 114 BobSmith77 said at 8:01 AM on October 20th, 2015:

That said was this a key win and even if the Eagles lose this week to go into the bye at 3-4 they are still in ‘ok’ shape.

Not about matching up with the Panthers or Packers right now. Matter of just doing enough to keep ahead of the other midgets in the NFC East in the interim. Way too far off to be worrying about playoff matchups and if/how the Eagles match up with the best teams in the NFC.

  115. 115 BobSmith77 said at 8:07 AM on October 20th, 2015:

Does anyone have a breakdown of production of the Eagles in 2 TE sets vs other sets?

It seems a lot like in the 2nd half of ’13 when they used that formation more & had a lot more success offensively too.

  116. 116 Ark87 said at 8:37 AM on October 20th, 2015:

    On the QB situation: uhg.

Ok there’s more to it. We know what Sanchez is. If we think the D can continue to carry this team deep, you go ahead and settle for a mediocre QB. Or even if the run game solidifies and the WR’s start showing better, that’s a place where a mediocre QB can thrive, so you make the switch. Otherwise we’re stuck hoping Bradford can reach that mythical ceiling. Until then, we’ll be trying to win anyway possible in the event that does happen and we can do something in the playoffs.

  117. 117 bdbd20 said at 8:40 AM on October 20th, 2015:

Sanchez is essentially Foles. Good QB, but not special where he can beat a good defense. The hope is Bradford can be that guy by week 11-12. If not, we’ll be looking for someone else.

No need to replay last season.

  118. 118 Ark87 said at 8:45 AM on October 20th, 2015:

Foles was a bigger risk taker. Had a higher variance in his game. Good Foles could be very good. But mostly he was struggling Foles. Sanchez is closer to Bradford in style. Both of them struggle to throw the field down-field. Sanchez it is a physical issue though. Bradford, I don’t know, might just not have a knack for it.

  119. 119 bdbd20 said at 8:52 AM on October 20th, 2015:

I’m actually not too concerned with Bradford. I kinda look at him as I would a rookie.

If he’s still shaky by week 12, I’ll be ready for a change. I just think he has to learn his receivers and learn what Chip and Pat are looking for with each play.

  122. 122 sonofdman said at 9:16 AM on October 20th, 2015:

Like I said in a previous reply, I am leaning more toward Sanchez every day. You are right. He isn’t special. Bradford has shown he can be, but he has also done very little to inspire confidence. Im not advocating a change now. If things continue as they have though I think a change in philosophy and personnel will be needed.

  126. 126 bdbd20 said at 10:42 AM on October 20th, 2015:

The key here is the upside. I agree that we can be a 10-11 win team with this D/ST and Sanchez/Foles.

The question is whether that guy can beat a good defense in the playoffs (SEA, AZ, GB). If that guy can’t beat a good defense, then you are stuck with that ceiling.

It’s great to celebrate 10 wins every year, but it sucks knowing that your QB will struggle against good teams.

  127. 127 Tumtum said at 12:00 PM on October 20th, 2015:

I’m getting close to being a Sanchize guy. I already think this defense is one of the best in the league and I’m becoming more and more bullish each game. I would love to see this team become ball control focused on offense and really let the defense win games.

The NFC doesn’t have great offenses this year. Atl seems to be the worst match up problem and I think we will have something more for them if we happen to make it far enough to see hem again.

If we continue to keep tempo and stay inept on offense, this team will go no where. If not for penalties by the Giants the O would have gotten nothing going.

  132. 132 Mac said at 10:52 AM on October 20th, 2015:

Has Bradford played in a system with option routes at any point in the past? To me, some of what’s going on seems to be Bradford and the WR in question seeing things differently. The other parts have been drops by WR and some genuinely poor throws by Bradford.

This past week I wrote a lot about how we are a nightmare matchuo for the Giants AND the Panthers. One ass whooping down, and one more ass whooping to go….

What will beat the Panthers for us is that we have one of the very best front 4 in terms of rushiñg the QB as one cohesive unit.. We don’t just see 4 guys try to do whatever it takes to get to the QB, you see a selfless group of pash rushers that never stray outside their assignments, they rush the passer while maintaining their gap responsibility…. You won’t find many defenses that rush the passer so well as a cohesive unit, and coehesive, Discaplined pass rush is going to be what beats Cam newton….on most of our sacks we see one guy get the hit, but the other pass rushers collapse the pocket and cut off all of the QBs escape lanes, not allowing them to step up in the pocket or side step a pass rush, and we damn sure don’t let QBs escape AND GET OUt of the pocket

These players aren’t aout their individual stats, they really are selfless in how they rush the passer as one unit, not caring who’s turn it is to get the sack, which is why when BG and Vinny ARENT getting sacks, it’s ignorant to bash them because usually we have a few pass rushers that do the dirty work so someone else can get the sack on any given play… So even when BG and Curry haven’t been lighting up the sack column, they have been much better than this city has given three credit for… Thankfully they got some sacks so that it can be crystal clear to everyone how they are producing.
    ,,
Eagles DL will keep Cam in the pocket, then tighten up the noose and strangle him, while alll jis escape routes are cut off by this Discaplined pass rush

Just need SAM to work his way back to the QB he is capable of being…
Bradfirds play does bother me, because up and down play is expected from someone in his shoes, but what I can’t stomach is WRs and QBs not being on the same page, running the wrong routes which cost us that INT where Coop stopped running and bradford was going deep, that needs to get cleaned up

But for a team that isn’t firing on all cylnders yet, we are starting to show the talent level of this roster….. Once we put the Pqnther in their place, we should be back in control…

    ..
Instead of acting like a foolish impulsive group of bitches, maybe we can learn from past mistakes?
    ..
Just a month ago,mWe were ripping Chp a new asshole because we were calling this a mess of an OL…. Yet we just watched them work thru the bad times, start to gel, and start playing some solid balls these past two weeks…..yet SAM is doomed to always such and won’t possibly improve? Absurd
    ..
Lacking patiemce makes us sound like morons.
    ..
Nolan Carroll sucked, 98% of Eagles fans saw a kid that couldn’t possibly be the answer after sitting behind Brad and Cary, yet today, people are actually throwing Carroll’s play in Toms face as if any of you had any belief in Nolan whatsoever going into this season
    ..
First month ripping BG and VINNY when they were actually playing some decent ball, because they weren’t showings up in the stat sheet, last night they dominated..
    ..
My favorite a was after3 weeks the blowhards determine that Murray can’t olay in this offense and that Ryan Mathews is the better back..LOL… Now you see Murray start to get comfortable and begin producing..
    ..
PATIENCE!!!! No way around it…. You have 8 new starters on Offense, excuse me if they haven’t gelled fast enough to our liking, but that doesn’t mean they won’t click, and it damn sue doesn’t mean that we won’t eventually be thrilled to have these players.
    ..
SAM will be fine, and this city will be thrilled to have him, it will just require some patience… I don’t think we will have to wait Til next year, I expect SAM to get comfortable and catch fire at some Point in the nect 3 weeks, but more important than this year, it’s crucial SAM stays heakthy, gets 16 games of experience in this offense, and has a healthy pffseason next year to build on it…. Shurmur and Chip ARENT fools, im sure they understand that this would require some patiemce, and THATS why i wasn’t thrilled to rebuild in year 3, because I understand that this is what you have to go thru when you rebuild….. Patience, we will be rewarded…
    ..
There was a time when Bennie Logan was a bum and we needed to draft his replacement, now he is one of Phillys finest….
    ..
Ideally we would only need 4’games to start to click, but unfortunately there is no set timeline blueprint for this sort of thing.l

So Paxton Lynch with our 1st next year?

“Paxton Lynch, Memphis, QB: The 6-foot-7, 245-pound junior has been squarely on the radar of scouts based on his spectacular string of 300-yard passing games, but he’s climbing up the charts after showing franchise-quarterback potential in big wins over Bowling Green, Cincinnati and Ole Miss. Lynch completed 39 of 53 passes for 384 yards and three touchdowns against the Rebels on Saturday. Although he tossed his first interception of the season, Lynch continues to display the arm talent, awareness and anticipation to pick apart opponents with pinpoint passes to every area of the field. In addition, he shows better-than-anticipated athleticism and mobility for a long, rangy thrower. Without a clear front-runner in the 2016/2017 quarterback classes, Lynch is beginning to create a buzz for teams in desperate need of a playmaker at the position.”

Obviously, not throwing interceptions would be better.

That said, throwing them in the end zone is less detrimental than throwing them on your own side of the field. You basically “lose” the three first downs to get into the red zone and end up the same as having punted earlier in the drive. Opportunity lost, but no direct damage. Compare that to the pick Eli threw to Carroll last night, which was not a dreaded end zone interception.

What we,see today ISNT neccessarily what we will see next week.
    ..
People, can’t even enjoy these wins because we have so much to work on still, but that’s really what the NFL season is all about. Finding ways to win during the course of the year while you try and grow into a team that can win in December..
    ..
OL can go from putrid to good in one week…. Even if Miles Austin looks better than the young WR’s today, good chance that with game time and continued practice the young WR’s will pass Miles by in the near future… Will it be next week? Who knows
    ..
But a mistake we make too often is we see the most recent performance and think that it’s an accurate depiction of what we see the rest of the year, when really these seasons are about growth, enduring injuries and continuing to grow to hopefully play your best ball in December/January..
    ,
We keep throwing around this term of “we have still to play a complete Game”.. I’m starting to think a complete game is some bullshit like a mythological unicorn… How often have we ever seen a complete game? Even during the great games we will encounter some lows, some adversity, some 3 and outs… It’s rar that a team is in control for 60 minutes and doesn’t face any adversity during the course of a game…
    ..
All that matters is wins and losses, each win or loss will show growth, and will show areas that need to improve. Even in a great win there is always a ton to improve on… The Pats team that won the Super Bowl last year was Nothing like the Pats team we saw in weeks 5 and 6….
    ..
I expect to beat the Panthers, but I don’t expect some perfect game…. I expect plenty of good, and a lot of bad that we will have to continue to work on, but ultimately I think we find a way to win against the Panthers… But the day after the Panthers game, there will be plenty that still needs improving to talk about
    ..

You get a lot of shit on this board, but you are spot on with this. Are the Eagles playing great football right now? No. But they’re keeping themselves in the running. You can’t win the lottery if you don’t have a ticket. Who knows how this team plays in weeks 12-16? Even though it hasn’t been pretty, I’m still pretty encouraged. We have a stud defense and with less mental errors from our offense we could be demolishing teams.

GEAGLE, you crazy but I love your passionate optimism…

I don’t care about next week. I care about the game in front of me. I’m not saying to get rid of the other guys. Huff is starting to make some plays. I would like him more involved too. Matthews is a beast, he just can’t get out of his own head right now.

I don’t think any of the WR should be banished to the bench, but I think that Austin should absolutely get more PT. If that means he takes 2% of everyone else’s snaps, so be it. Let us not forget he was a pretty darn good receiver in the past. Maybe he will only continue to improve as well.

The age of the players isn’t what motivates these thoughts either. I think that Hicks absolutely deserves playing time even if all of the other LBs are healthy. In fact, I think he should start.

    The list goes on too.

  177. 177 GEAGLE said at 3:10 PM on October 20th, 2015:

Mah……first 3 weeks of the season, fans thought Austin was completely worthless… He had a solid game, and he has made some decent plays in spot duty, but I don’t expect to get production out of him each week… But because he has been good blocking in the run game, I don’t mind seeing him get some minutes, he should be good for a big 3rd down catch per game, but most important continues to be the development of our young WRs

  178. 178 jpate said at 10:29 AM on October 20th, 2015:

  181. 181 CrackSammich said at 11:46 AM on October 20th, 2015:

Just venturing a guess, he’s not driving from his plant foot on the throws because he doesn’t trust his knee yet. That’s what I think is leading to the underthrows. Someone pointed out a week or so ago that when he’s on the run, he doesn’t have those issues, which makes me think it’s psychological. His reads are usually correct (the one pick from the Saints game was not), but they end up underthrown. To me that seems pretty fixable with time.

By the way, DeMeco’s interception/fumble recovery whatever was filthy. How the heck do you even do something like that? On a bang-bang play? It is good to see him out there. I felt he was our best ILB this year and felt his injury would be a net negative for the D, despite the additions.

  184. 184 GEAGLE said at 10:18 AM on October 20th, 2015:

I was in awe of how well Demeco played.. He was flying around in coverage, punishing RB with some hard hits, I couldn’t help thnk, how th fuck is this man doing this at this age when he suffered an Achilles tear less than a year ago? I’m in awe of how much Meco has improved from one week to the next and the fact that he was ready to play opening day was remarkable… I’m in awe of MUFASA, and im happy for him that the injury isn’t bad, so he can get back on the field with his troops..
    ..
MUFASA left the game, Baby Simba had to step up and make the calls for the defense the rest of the game, and the young man responded well, led our team once again in tackles, but what was really amazing was seeing baby simba shut down Vereen as a Recieving threat.. Vereen was invisible in the passing game, hicks shut him DOWN COMPLETELY…
    ..
Scary to think what this defense will be when we have all our ILBs that can be rotated and match up specifically against different types of players we encounter..
    ..
Maxwell was bad in the first half, but if you are going to rip him for the first half, gotta tip your cap to him settling down and not giving Beckham anything in the second half…. I kept seeing eli look to his side, be forced to hold the ball, and get sacked… Maxwell must have been holding his own in the second half. I assume he was getting some help of course

  188. 188 GEAGLE said at 10:34 AM on October 20th, 2015:

I think he has to be in the convo at this point. Playing out of his mind, but his snap count will probably be cut down a bit when Kemdricks and Kiko come back, Hivks will still play plenty, but he won’t play all game, and im not sure you can win defensive player of the year in a part time role, but there is probably some past precedent for it….

First half of the season, I doubt many rookie defenders have played better than this LB Savant

  189. 189 TypicalDouche said at 11:03 AM on October 20th, 2015:

At this point the Eagles just cannot take Hicks off the field even when Kiko and Kendricks come back, he is simply playing too well to be forced back to a limited role. I would give Kiko and Kendricks the limited roles to keep them healthy.

Similar to last year, the defense kept us in the game and helped us win it even with all the injuries we have on that side of the ball. Great job by them.

ST has seemed less effective this year and the offense continues to be very inconsistent and self destructive.

Good win, but 3-3 is hardly worth cheering about. Thankfully we are in a terrible division and have had a soft schedule recently. Carolina is next, undefeated team with a stout defense. If we can beat them, I’ll have more confidence.

  201. 201 HawaiianEagle said at 10:52 AM on October 20th, 2015:

Dunno. The only game IMO we SHOULD have lost was dallas. Agree a win at CAR would be special.

  202. 202 Gary Barnes said at 11:05 AM on October 20th, 2015:

Should has nothing to do with it, we lost all three games on merit IMO. We are what our record says we are: mediocre. Still cannot believe we lost to Washington, but we played so poorly we deserved it. Thankfully, we get another crack at all three of our division rivals and also have the Bucs & Fins at home. If we can win those five games, that gives us 8 and then we need to beat two of Buffalo, Detroit, Carolina and AZ to get to 10. I would argue it is doable if I knew which Eagles team would show up every week.

  203. 203 HawaiianEagle said at 11:11 AM on October 20th, 2015:

Based on the last two weeks I would say the team shows up that is capable of winning even though they make huge mistakes. Good enuf to beat CAR and other “good” teams? Maybe. No team at week 7 is the same team at week 12. Hopefully for us that’s a good thing.

I wonder how bad the NFC East really is. Even though all of the teams are mediocre, most of the losses have come from within the division and from Atlanta. These are the only non-division losses:

Swept by the 5-1 Atlanta Falcons
DAL lost to 5-0 NE and to the 2-4 Saints in OT with Weeden and no Dez
WAS lost to 4-1 Jets and 2-3 MIA

I’m not saying the division is good, but everyone acts like it’s the worst division that ever existed. It’s not even the worst division in the league this year, that’s the AFC South

Demarco looked good last night. He looked fast and showed some burst.

Gotta correct for drop rate which is 20% in last two games, 10% for the year, historically bad . Bradford was sacked 5 times, hurried 13 but held strong in the pocket . Didn’t run back on every play. Bradford isn’t big Ben he’s a qb that has to rely on his skill position players.
