Eric Rowe is out with a concussion. Byron Maxwell is out with a shoulder injury. Your CBs are Jaylen Watkins and EJ Biggers. Not exactly ideal against the Cardinals elite passing attack.
Hopefully Maxwell will return after halftime. He was getting X-rays.
The Eagles offense has looked good. You can argue Chip Kelly should have gone for a FG with the ball inside the 10-yard line, but he went for the 1st down and Ryan Mathews got stuffed.
The good news is that the Eagles get the ball after halftime and will have a chance to go tie the game or cut into the lead.
This is still a winnable game.

This game really ought to put to rest the idea that this team can make some kind of Giants-esque miracle run if they only make the playoffs. They don’t play consistently well and the only chance they have of beating good teams is getting an unusual confluence of fluke ST and defensive plays as happened in the Pats game. If they sneak in 8-8, they will likely be embarrassed against a good opponent.
I want them to finish 6-10. Maximize draft position.

Things fell apart with the CB injuries but yet again this is a bottom tier defense despite all of the resources invested in it that forces this offense to score 28-30 pts at the end of the year to win. That just is a recipe for failure.
Defense still ranked #11 according to DVOA (before this game). So top third or top of mid-third-ish.
In almost every other start they are bottom 10 except forcing turnovers and this defense is scuffling at the end if the year yet again

Bradford didn’t play poorly but he isn’t s difference maker and the thought of signing him to a big deal the next 3-4 years strikes me as a move that sinks the franchise for the rest of the decade.

3 years is fine. It’ll take us that long to find, draft/acquire, and train up another QB we hope is a franchise anyway. Gotta pay for QB play and hope he does well enough to help the receivers develop.
Thing is he’s getting better. He’s getting close to being a real solid QB, if he can keep up this level. Is Carson Palmer a difference maker? I don’t see that quality as being out of the question at this point. It would be one thing if he had plateaued at a particular level of performance but I haven’t seen it yet.

We didn’t take a QB to groom so that was part of the problem. You really don’t want to commit to a QB if they really don’t show significant progress every year (look at Tannehill, Kaepernick, and Cutler) since that’ll put you in a shitty situation.
This isn’t really the year to draft a QB so that hurts even more.

The turnovers were the killer. And not getting the first down before the half. Offense was… decent but not great, which they have been lately.
Playoff experience would still be good for a lot of these guys.
Big picture, this loss doesn’t mean much.
First, we have two games against sub-.500 teams to get in the playoffs. That isn’t a bad way to end a season.
Second, in the first half we were able to play with them. The turnovers killed us, but there is hope.

That doesn’t surprise me. The crowd at the Linc SUCKS compared to the vet. Don’t have nearly the noise or rancorous crowd. As soon as things go bad, this crowd is as quiet as the crowd at the big house in Ann Arbor.
When three teams ring up at least 40 points on you in a seasons, some changes needs to be made. That’s not growing pains, that’s a crack in the foundation.

Im not trying to be negative, just an honest thought/question. When we played Cardinals in 2013, I thought we were equal, if not the better team. Two years later, Cards clearly better on both sides. Why?

Coaching?
Our offense went from being top 3 to bottom third.
Better coached team. They don’t make many mistakes.
i think the answer is pretty simple, they are just better coached. Rarely do you see them make mistakes in communication and execution. Just watching this game tonight you can see the difference, both teams have their own style but one team clearly played their style of football better than the other. The cardinals are going to run it down your throat and/or throw it deep, they don’t care if you know it or not they just impose their will on you because if they execute up front, which their o-line has been tremendous this year, they are going to succeed. On paper i think the Eagles would have a good chance to beat this team, but they do none of the little things right. They jump offsides, they hold, fumble the ball, drop simple passes or run routes short of the first down, QB isn’t on same page as receivers. Some of it is to be expected with all the fresh faces on offense, but some things just shouldn’t happen either. Chip has also taken a major step back as a playcaller and perhaps just as a coach in general this year IMO
As for drafts and team building between the two, Chip sort of went rebuild this year, but IMO he spent some of the FA money unwisely. I didn’t mind the guys he cut/traded being axed if the team was going to enter a long term rebuild, but i think some of the FA signings he made sent mixed signals to fans. I still think he is in the midst of rebuilding this team, but patience isn’t a virtue with this fanbase and some of the moves he has made already have people scratching their heads. Combine that with some of the coaching decisions or indecisions and you get what you see now. As for Arizona they have done pretty well i suppose in the draft since Arians took over and there was some talent already on the team, but they really built the team through FA and trades. They landed Palmer, who was going to retire like Bradford due to injuries and poor play, but went to Arizona and revitalized his career, cards gave up a 6th rounder to get him mostly because Oakland just wanted to be done with him. 3/5 of the o-line were FA they picked up in the Arians era who have now developed into a nice unit. Outside of Calais Campbell they dont have any big name on their front 7 on defense, but they all play with no quit on every play. The secondary is most likely their most talented unit with guys like Peterson and honey badger, but the key to that unit is they are also well coached and rarely screw up in execution (except for tonight on that long Matthews TD, lol)
They are more talented than our team, but not by much. they have their QB who has been in the system 3 years now and players don’t make mistakes and neither do the coaches. Just look at Carolina, they were 7-8-1 last year…..who was their big acquisition? Ted Ginn? They have hit big on some draft picks and are just playing well as a team this year, yet people were writing them off because Kelvin Benjamin got hurt

Making comments about a lack of talent and how this defense got trucked. Almost assuming too from what he said that they are going to lose next week too and be home in Jan. too.
I hear ya. I thought he was just being a little extra honest.
Almost assume too from what he said too is that this team will lose next week too which is very unlike him to be that negative.
Don’t know many teams that lose their 1st, 2nd, & 3rd string CB and still play good defense.

Really thought about going all Media Mike circa last night in here but I just don’t have the heart.
I figured we’d lose but it’s emotionally exhausting to keep getting steamrolled like this.
Kiko has sucked really bad this year. That said, I think he doesn’t trust his knee. When he was a rookie he flew around the field, he is just so tentative this year. Hopefully he’s one of those guys that takes two years to get all the way back, because I think he has a lot of talent. However, like I said, he has been horrible this year
How to fix this team quickly.
– Get a new defensive coordinator, good coaches light him up
– Get new interior OL – we have no push up the middle of the field
– Get a new WR coach
I’m done with Billy D. His defenses get beat by the same routes and his run d has been figured out. Get rid of the weak link. And I don’t understand the up and down nature of our WR. Too inconsistent and they arguably have talent there. At least they were in college. Right now this is where WR come to end their careers.
