No Big Mac For You!

So Ben McAdoo is going to be the #Giants coach, per sources. Should make Eli Manning happy

Bennie Mac got the Giants gig. Solid choice by them. Smart of him to stay with team that has quality veteran QB and an elite WR in place.
No big deal, right?
#Eagles were in on Ben McAdoo and we're ready to hire the new Giants head coach, according to two NFL sources.
— Jeff McLane (@Jeff_McLane) January 14, 2016
What?
I actually also heard McAdoo was a serious possibility, if not the favorite. Whether true or not, the Eagles will not be hiring him. So who does that leave?
The Eagles have interviewed:
Duce Staley
Pat Shurmur
Tom Coughlin
Doug Pederson
Some believe that Pederson is now the front runner and that might be the case.
You do wonder if the Eagles will open things up and take a look at another couple of candidates. Maybe they’ll talk to Teryl Austin or Paul Guenther. Maybe they’ll take a look at a former head coach. I’ve mentioned Mike Smith and Jim Schwartz as guys that interest me.
Or maybe Pederson is the guy now and the Eagles simply have to wait for the Chiefs to lose. They play at New England on Saturday so we’ll see how that goes.
This is a strange coaching search. There is no “gotta have him” guy. I think the Eagles are smart to take their time and find the right guy, but they may have waited a bit too long if McAdoo is the coach they wanted. We’ll see if some reports and rumors start to leak on Thursday.
Somebody send Les Bowen on an all day run so we’ll definitely get some Eagles news.
_
Jim Schwartz seems like such a douche though.
that’s because he is
And he can keep Spags up in NY.
yeah if those were the names at DC and OC he was peddling #not interested
At this point maybe we’ll just have to host open tryouts for the HC gig Vince Papale style. Tommy Lawlor for HC, Jimmy Kempski in as Stick Figure Coordinator – forget Xs and Os.
Other guys still in playoffs a possibility, but also wondering if Eagles waiting to see if Lions keep Jim Caldwell.
Absolutely do not want Caldwell.
Why is he worse than others?
but you’re ok with Shurmur?
Caldwell much better than big shurm.

why not?
What is Detroit waiting on? If you’re going to fire the guy, fire him. Think they’re waiting to see if they can get a replacement first?
McLane’s terrible punctuation made that tweet really confusing.
They 100% botched this IMO. What is the direction?
Supposedly North-South, but looking more East-West at this point.
if that’s the case they should have kept chippah
Not liking how this is going.
As someone over on BGN commented,
“So they started this search a week early just to end up with Shurmur and Pederson?”
This seems like a search Chip would conduct…not much rhyme or reason to it.
The fire of Chip was personal. What else can we conclude for such an odd time of a firing? What was the upside except to embarrass him?
I’m starting to think this is what is was. Lurie had a problem with him personally, and just got rid of him.
CK was treated the way the treated DJ … lol
I think they wanted to fire him after the loss to the skins, and his presser where he wouldn’t take any responsibility for being the GM. They were probably afraid Kelly might beat the Giants which would make firing him afterwards a little tougher.
Well, somebody in California won the Powerball.
The Rams.
Lurie’s progress in finding a coach so far . . .

“This is a strange coaching search. There is no “gotta have him” guy.”
Exactly. Hue Jackson was my top choice, but if he negotiated an inappropriately large role on the personnel end with Cleveland; good for him, but he wasn’t going to be a fit for what we need in that job. We just fired a guy, in part, for not playing well with other members of the organization on personnel maters.
And that is exactly why I can accept the “slow” process. As I have stated before, the same hand-wriniging went on before the Eagles came out of left field and hired Chip Kelly, who was a rock star in the college ranks. We know his fate, but. let’s face it, most of us were excited about the hire and imagined the possibilities, which were realized his first year.
Also, I don’t really get all the abject hatred of Lurie and Roseman. Lurie has been a good, if not solid, owner and Roseman is who he is. No, Lurie is not about to seel the team, nor is he about to fire Roseman. Ownership and front ofiice are what they are. I understand that the confidence level is low among the fans, but I have no prolbem at all with the pace of the hiring process. Do we really feel that Jackson/Gase/McAdoo were rock-solid candidates that we missed out on?
“I think the Eagles are smart to take their time and find the right guy, but they may have waited a bit too long if McAdoo is the coach they wanted.”
If McAdoo really wanted to stay with the Giants there wasn’t anything we were going to do other than speed up the Giants in keeping him.
Given the situation, if the Giants wanted him it’s highly unlikely any other team would stand a chance.
So McAdoo is a fast food version of a coach….
Lukewarm with shitty results
This coaching search isn’t going to end with Belichick as our new HC, so no matter who they hire we’re going to have to be on wait and see mode.
– who will the assistants be?
– who will the new front office guy be?
– will the organization bring in free agents I like?
– will they draft players I like by trading down and getting more picks and not reaching?
– will they put training camp back at a fan accessible location for any kid/family who wants to attend?
– will they run a 4-3?
– and most importantly; what is the w-l record going to be over the next several years?
So outside of hiring somebody I absolutely hate (McDermott, Coughlin) I’m not sure if this hiring is going to be that captivating.
…so, mc ado about nothing

And then there’s this:

I agree that all guys have their flaws. When that’s the case, the guy has to mesh well with the front office.
As fans, we may not like it, but the front office structure is here to stay. Can it work? Who knows?
We just have to hope for the best. Optimists will still be optimistic and pessimists will still be pessimistic.
Pederson with Shurmur and Bradford can win 10+ games. The question is whether they can take the next step.
“I think the Eagles are smart to take their time and find the right guy, but they may have waited a bit too long if McAdoo is the coach they wanted.” So, you’re saying — they did the right thing but the wrong thing? Now that’s funny.
……
It hasn’t really been that long. If you really really like a guy — why is it prudent to take your time? As people said — kick all the tires. That never made sense me. If you like someone and he’s your guy — get him.
……
I would imagine the announcement took time because he was deciding between the Giants and Eagles. I’m not disappointed we didn’t get him. I wouldn’t have been overly excited to land him. He would have been the right shoe on the wrong foot kind of situation.
so who is “the ” guy now, opinions?
GJ Kinne.
Who is the current Green Bay QB coach? Let’s get ahead of the curve!

Not sure of exact timeline as it relates to NYG/McAdoo but the Eagles spoke to Tom Coughlin again yesterday, expected to do so again today.
Well, seniors do like to talk.
Maybe they were helping him with his wifi?
Crazy offseason theory: Shurmur was the guy all along but Howie made a deal with agents allowing them to tie the Eagles to Gase, McAdoo, etc. in order to drive up their prices. In exchange, the agents will get their clients to sign team friendly Eagles deals and it has to leak to Peter King so Howie gets a modicum of respect back.
It’s probably Pederson though. Matt Patricia seems like he’d do well in Philly too.
