What A Day

Howie Roseman and the Eagles came out swinging. Or should I say signing.

The Eagles signed:

OG Brandon Brooks
S  Rodney McLeod
QB Chase Daniel
CB Ron Brooks
LB Nigel Bradham

Did I forget anyone?

The Eagles finalized a pair of trades as well.

  • CB Byron Maxwell and LB Kiko Alonso to Miami for a swap of 1st round picks
  • RB DeMarco Murray to the Titans for a swap of 4th round picks

Wow. What a day.

The move I’m happiest about is signing McLeod. Along with Malcolm Jenkins, he gives the Eagles a pair of terrific Safeties. McLeod isn’t huge, but he’s fast, hits and tackles. He’s young and should have his best years ahead of him. He played in a scheme that is somewhat similar to what Jim Schwartz will run. I think McLeod has a chance to play well right away.

The most important move was signing Brooks. The Eagles needed OL help. Brooks gives them a young, big OG to plug in right away. The line hasn’t had a physical presence like him on the inside since…Jamaal Jackson in 2009? The Eagles have had good OGs, but not big, physical players that could overwhelm defenders.

Daniel is the most interesting addition.

That’s a lot of money for a backup QB. Word is that Daniel will compete for the starting job. I expect Bradford to win, but the Eagles believe enough in Daniel to pay him well and let him compete. Daniel played for Pederson in KC so he can help teach the offense to his new teammates.

Doug Pederson has talked about having a group of good QBs. As a player for Miami, he was on the roster with Dan Marino and Scott Mitchell. In Green Bay, he played with Brett Favre, Matt Hasselbeck and others. The Eagles had Pederson, Donovan McNabb and Koy Detmer.

The Eagles hope Sam Bradford plays well, but will have Daniel in place to challenge him. Ideally, both will play well. Then the Eagles will have a pair of good QBs. Bradford isn’t the type of QB to play all season every season so having a good backup is especially important with him being the starter.

Mark Sanchez hasn’t been cut. I’m sure the Eagles will try to trade him. If that doesn’t work (and you shouldn’t hold your breath on that happening), they’ll cut him in the future. When SF cuts Kap, they will have an opening for a QB…one who knows the Kelly offense.

Brooks is in Philly to help on STs and be a backup CB. He did play for Buffalo in 2014 when Schwartz was there. Brooks has played on the inside and outside so he is versatile, but his real value is on STs.

Bradham comes to the Eagles to be the SAM LB.

Mychal Kendricks will play the WIL position and Jordan Hicks will run the defense from his MLB spot. Bradham, who is 6-2, 241, has the size and skill set to play SAM in this system. He’s started there before and had his best season under Jim Schwartz.

Great first day for Howie and the Eagles. They got young, ascending players. They got good value in terms of contract. Even Daniel, who got more than I expected, makes a bit of sense because he plays a primary position.

There is still work to be done.

The Eagles need WR help.

I mentioned Holmes in my FA preview. He has size and pretty good speed. He can play STs and has shown solid ability as a WR.

The Eagles could add another CB. They could go for a RB. They could add depth to the DL.

The team can now sit back and focus on players they like who have the right price tag. The key holes have been filled. Others will get filled in the draft.

Howie can also be happy about having the 8th overall pick and the first pick of the 4th round. With the 8th pick, the Eagles can really target a player or two. They could still go for a QB. There will be lots of other options. I don’t have any favorite scenarios right now.

There could still be action tomorrow, but don’t expect anything like the flurry of moves the team made today. Crazy.

How is that for funny?

They probably fear his shoulder falling off signing the thing

  3. 3 FairOaks said at 11:35 PM on March 9th, 2016:

They have done that so many times they really can’t afford to do that anymore. His cap hit this year is 8.5 million salary plus 12.3 million in prorations from previous signing bonuses and cap games. And the salary jumps a lot starting in 2017.

I can see Chip giving up a 5th for Sanchez.

    i dont

  6. 6 BobSmith77 said at 12:27 AM on March 10th, 2016:

Me neither. He’ll wait for the Eagles to cut Sanchez. I’d be really surprised if the Eagles can traded Sanchez to any team for a draft pick at this point. If another team wants him, they’ll just wait until he gets released.

    But… Chip

It’s just a cap hold for us. On cap space we’re not going to use in the short term. While you wait, he’ll miss OTAs, then camp. Tick tock tick tock.

  9. 9 mark2741 said at 10:38 PM on March 10th, 2016:

but then they’d have to compete with other teams wanting him. If a team wants him, they’ll give up a 7th.

Tommy, they actually have the second pick in the 4th round not the first.

  11. 11 Dominik said at 8:40 AM on March 10th, 2016:

Do you know why that’s the case? Do they flip the 1 and 2 before round 4 every year? Was there a trade?

I read that it’s the second pick in the 4th. But it didn’t make a lot of sense to me. 1st pick would have been better, because teams re-visit their draft board after Day 2 and maybe fall in love with a player. Howie could have traded down if he wanted to.

Now of course, that’s still possible. It’s not a huge thing, I know that. But I think it helps a little bit to have the pick to start the day. Especially since you can’t trade the comp picks at the end of round 3.

    2017: $2,100,000 Million cap hit

  14. 14 Greg Richards said at 11:15 PM on March 9th, 2016:

I wouldn’t trust spotrac. Over the Cap is much better. Their numbers are not the same as what Pro Football Talk reported. PFT reported a $6M signing bonus and a $1M 2016 base salary.

  15. 15 FairOaks said at 11:41 PM on March 9th, 2016:

Sportrac has a $3M signing bonus, $3M roster bonus, and $1M 2016 base salary. That basically matches the info overthecap has up, so guessing it’s accurate. There are $15M in incentives too. The 2016 cap number is swallowable but there is no way we keep both Daniel and Bradford in 2017.

  16. 16 Greg Richards said at 11:44 PM on March 9th, 2016:

Daniel’s cap figure will be $8M in 2017 depending on incentives are reached. It’d be possible that they could keep both but not without an extension for Bradford that lowers his 2017 cap charge.

  17. 17 FairOaks said at 11:47 PM on March 9th, 2016:

From what I see it’s $8M at a minimum, before incentives. $5 million of that is fully guaranteed, plus $1M signing bonus proration, plus $2M non-guaranteed salary. I’m sure there are offsets, such that if he’s cut and signs elsewhere the Eagles will not have to pay a lot of that guaranteed money, but… it’s still a chunk of change.

  18. 18 RC5000 said at 12:36 AM on March 10th, 2016:

I deleted it. I don’t want to confuse anyone. OTC didn’t have it at the time I could find. Now I can’t get in their site at all. I’ll just wait till tomorrow and look at it. I corrected Jason before a couple times using spotrac and vice versa. Spotrac is NBA and NHL bible so that’s why I’m more used to them.

Sometimes they get in synch but you’re much more into it than me.

Is anyone else scared the cowboys will draft Ramsey or Jack? Of they get Jack I could see them using him as a RB from time to time. Dude is the truth. Scary as a lb and with the ball in his hands

  20. 20 Donald Kalinowski said at 10:51 PM on March 9th, 2016:

Doesn’t Ramsay have some serious injury issues?

  21. 21 TypicalDouche said at 10:53 PM on March 9th, 2016:

No Ramsey is all good. May be the best athlete on the draft and currently is the #1 player on most boards at 2 positions, safety and cornerback. That’s just rare. Should be a top 4 pick for sure.

  22. 22 Donald Kalinowski said at 10:59 PM on March 9th, 2016:

Never mind. I had him confused with Jaylon Smith

  23. 23 TypicalDouche said at 11:01 PM on March 9th, 2016:

  25. 25 TypicalDouche said at 11:37 PM on March 9th, 2016:

could be a team that takes a chance on him in the bottom first but at the same time it wouldn’t shock me to see him go in the 7th with the severity of his injury.

  26. 26 Donald Kalinowski said at 11:03 PM on March 9th, 2016:

I think Tunsil, Wentz, Jack and Ramsey will be the top 4 picks. Eagles are probably selecting Buckner, Bosa, or Hargreaves

  27. 27 RC5000 said at 11:13 PM on March 9th, 2016:

That’s a good way to get your LB injured. It’s the NFL.

  30. 30 Media Mike said at 4:57 AM on March 10th, 2016:

I’m scared of the Cowboys getting a good player at 4. Hopefully they take Bosa, because he’s the worst player being discussed in that mix.

  31. 31 Donald Kalinowski said at 10:50 PM on March 9th, 2016:

Casey Hayward, Bilal Powell, Leon Hall, Craig Robertson, Tahir Whitehead

  32. 32 TypicalDouche said at 10:57 PM on March 9th, 2016:

At this point there is not much need for outside of little contracts for upside players. Most things needed now are depth and can come through the draft. Im sure the Eagles sign another olineman and not much action after that. These moves give them endless possibilities in the draft.

  33. 33 Will:Howie is Nino Brown said at 11:23 PM on March 9th, 2016:

I’m with you on this. I think we should wait for the draft at this point. Although I am slightly concerned about the CB position opposite Rowe

  34. 34 TypicalDouche said at 11:40 PM on March 9th, 2016:

still options out there and I’m still confident in a Carroll deal but even if that doesn’t happen McKelvin or Brooks can play temporarily while they bring a rookie up. With such talented safeties the Eagles have the luxury to have average corners with the safety talent currently on the roster.

  35. 35 FairOaks said at 11:44 PM on March 9th, 2016:

I’m doubting a Carroll deal. Don’t think we have the cap room. Especially if we want to be able to extend Cox at some point. Although that may be why we want to trade Mathews as well… which would create a need at RB though.

  36. 36 TypicalDouche said at 11:57 PM on March 9th, 2016:

regardless if carroll returns or not they have options. They have the whole year to negotiate with Cox plus the franchise tag if necessary next year so I’m extremely confident Cox will be here for the long haul.

  37. 37 big Jes not here for grammar said at 12:14 AM on March 10th, 2016:

Yeah I think unloading max and Murray was more about creating space next year for Cox extensions

Still would like to see them bring in Nick Fairley.

  39. 39 Charlie Kelly said at 11:20 PM on March 9th, 2016:

  40. 40 Joe Minx said at 2:49 AM on March 10th, 2016:

    I’d like both.

  41. 41 Donald Kalinowski said at 10:57 PM on March 9th, 2016:

Damon Harrison was a good signing for the Giants.
Vernon is a good player but he got paid top tier Suh, Watt, Quinn money.
Jenkins got paid big money as well. His contract makes Maxwell’s deal look like a joke.

  42. 42 Media Mike said at 5:01 AM on March 10th, 2016:

If the Giants were a 3-4 team, Harrison would be a good signing. They just plopped a 2 gap war daddy NT into a spot for a 1 gap 4-3 DT.

  43. 43 Gian GEAGLE said at 8:42 AM on March 10th, 2016:

Harrison is a fantastic signing for the Giants… Team that was terrible defending the run added one of the best run stuffing DL in the game to pair next to Jonathon Hankins. Great signing for the Giants

    How’s this quote for funny?

‘General manager Jon Robinson said Murray will be a workhorse for Tennessee and a model for the sort of guy the team now covets: “tough, dependable and team-first.”‘

  45. 45 BobSmith77 said at 12:15 AM on March 10th, 2016:

He might be. Murray never had a rep for being a problem in Oklahoma or in Dallas.

I do expect Murray will be better next year if he comes into the year healthy & determined. Just don’t know about the ‘dependable’ part given his injury track record.

Still want to know how healthy Murray was here this year including how healthy he came into the year.

  46. 46 laeagle said at 12:29 AM on March 10th, 2016:

He lost “team first” for me when he took that slide in the Miami game. Also when he complained about his carries to the owner.

  47. 47 Buge Halls said at 10:04 AM on March 10th, 2016:

Yeah, the “tough, dependable, and team-first” guy who in his own words, “took last year off”!

  48. 48 anon said at 1:31 PM on March 10th, 2016:

Much easier to build a narrative to mve players when you have a new coach / scheme. Oh this player isn’t an ass it’s just that he does’nt fit into what the new guy wants to do, 13/13 in short yardage situations though

  49. 49 laeagle said at 1:34 PM on March 10th, 2016:

There was talent, no denying. Just not sure if it’s there anymore.

Another Murray gem: “You want to physically impose your will on the other team. Want to finish runs.”

Cue the play from the Miami game.

  50. 50 Will:Howie is Nino Brown said at 11:21 PM on March 9th, 2016:

Giants are going all out this offseason. Must be trying to maximize Eli’s final years.

Washington fans think they are on Denver’s level already. I think the division will be even more competitive this year. I don’t see any team running away with it.

Aside from dumping off the big contracts I don’t think we are the major players in FA some are making us out to be.

  51. 51 laeagle said at 11:22 PM on March 9th, 2016:

Every time their team scores a touchdown, Washington fans extrapolate that out to the Super Bowl. Most delusional fanbase ever.

  52. 52 BobSmith77 said at 12:07 AM on March 10th, 2016:

Skins seem like they have a competent GM who has a steady hand and longer-term vision on roster building. The worst thing is that Snyder legitimately appears to be willing to be a bit more hands off too in terms of player personnel.

Giants’ moves strike me more as desperation than anything. Throw a ton of money at the DL to shore up a really shitty defense. They still have a new coach & strike me as a .500 team right now.

It is possible that one of the Giants/Skins/Eagles/Boys teams is able to reach 11 wins next year now and win the NFC East, yeah I guess but it still strikes me as a 9-10 win division.

  71. 71 jaws80 said at 12:34 AM on March 10th, 2016:

Mathews with off season surgery for groin, is just such an injury question mark, he was even before last season. He cant be trusted to take on a full load, or even counted on for as a full season rotation guy. So yeah, seems there is a number 1 running back hole, to take 18 or so carries a game, with Mathew, Barnes and Sproles splitting the rest. Zeke? Offense is sorely missing a weapon, someone that scares the other team’s defense, someone the other team has to game plan around. Maybe Ertz is the closest Eagles have now.

With Zeke, Pederson’s job would be a lot easier. When in doubt, run Zeke left behind Brooks and Peters. Or maybe Pederson likes Barnes a lot?

  72. 72 Mr. Magee said at 2:38 AM on March 10th, 2016:

We definitely need a difference maker on offense. I know round 1 is high for RB’s, especially at 8, but if Stanley is gone, I like Zeke, unless they think they can trade back and get him later in the round.

  77. 77 Media Mike said at 5:04 AM on March 10th, 2016:

    I’ll take Kenneth Dixon.

  79. 79 BobSmith77 said at 12:00 AM on March 10th, 2016:

Even with all of these moves and signings today, they only ended up committing another ~$4M vs the cap next year.

Roseman certainly showed he is pretty apt at managing the salary cap for the present and future.

Just needs to really nail the #8 pick. I don’t get any of the talk that the Eagles would be willing to move back from that pick which would kill any trade returns from moving Maxwell/Alonso. This roster is lacking top-tier talent and the Eagles need to get one with the #8 pick who immediately contributes next year as a starter.

  80. 80 solid said at 1:22 AM on March 10th, 2016:

I do not believe they trade down from the 8. You take the BPA when you’re that high in the draft. You don’t know when you’re going to be in this position again.

  81. 81 Gian GEAGLE said at 8:39 AM on March 10th, 2016:

They DEFINITELY won’t be trading out of a chance to add one of the the elite 7 to 10 top tier blue chip prospects which is a GODSEND for a team so lacking of star talent

  82. 82 Buge Halls said at 10:12 AM on March 10th, 2016:

It all depends who is on the board and who is calling them with offers. If they think a couple of “their guys” will still be around and they can pick up an extra pick (maybe a #2) by sliding back, why wouldn’t they? Based on the draft points (FWIW), they could drop back to #12-14 and pick up a mid-high #2 pretty easy depending on how desperate the trading team is.

Yes we got rid of a slow over paid CB who refused to tackle, a skinny armed injury plagued LB who apparently couldn’t tackle and overpaid crybaby rb that didn’t want to be here who was afraid to be tackled. Saved cap space and actually got good compensation. #Howiewinning

  85. 85 BobSmith77 said at 12:11 AM on March 10th, 2016:

For all of the BS talk about the importance of culture and fit, it strikes me this offseason that there is actually some real consideration for that vs the lip service that was paid to it last year.

I argued this defense quit last year at times on Billy Davis and essentially collapsed. Also lacked toughness and physicality. Seemed like made a real effort to change that today especially with the McLeod signing.

Eagles’ fans do eat up defense and they should actually enjoy watching this defense next year a bit more.

Poised to the most physical unit they have had in several years along with actually be an average/slightly above average unit.

They have been a sieve in the 2nd half of the season every year since ’08 which forced them to score a ton of points to have a decent shot to win games.

  88. 88 John Galt said at 12:27 AM on March 10th, 2016:

I agree totally. Not sure if we have the personalities necessary to be a true Philly mean and nasty D yet, but we are heading in that direction. Can’t wait to see if Schwartz can get these guys to play on edge

Sanchez obviously is going to be traded/cut but I do wonder what the Eagles do with Barwin and Mathews. They strike me as 2 guys the Eagles will might look to trade too.

  97. 97 Greg Tulino said at 12:45 AM on March 10th, 2016:

Adam Schefter reported Mathews will be on the roster this season. I agree, however, that Barwin could be a trade candidate either for a 4th or 5th round pick ( he has some value) or in a player for player deal. Maybe for a WR? Just a guess.

  98. 98 Nick C said at 12:50 AM on March 10th, 2016:

I would think with the contracts guys are getting, barwin would at least be worth a 3rd rounder… May be overvaluing, but I don’t see the point in trading him for very little value.

I think we may surprisingly see someone like Logan traded given the extension Cox is about to get. I know there are ways to make cap space, but our cap situation next year is very tight at the moment. A lot of these new deals have low cap hits this year and then seem to average out next year.

  99. 99 Greg Tulino said at 12:56 AM on March 10th, 2016:

Logan is a young ascending player who the eagles drafted. We like to draft and keep our own. I would not expect him to be moved. That’s my opinion anyway. Barwin has been productive, but he is a bit older, and not a true fit in our new defensive scheme. If we keep him I am fine with it. I just think he is a player that could be moved. If he stays I would bet this is his last year in Philly.

  100. 100 Dude said at 1:30 AM on March 10th, 2016:

“We like to draft and keep our own.”

Tell that to DeSean and JMack. And McCoy. And Dawk.

Barwin should be an excellent fit in the wide9. And he offers us the flexibility to play him at SAM if need be.

  101. 101 laeagle said at 1:42 AM on March 10th, 2016:

We always did before Chip, and we appear to do so now, as well.

  102. 102 BobSmith77 said at 2:24 AM on March 10th, 2016:

What does Dawkins have to those previous 3? He had a little over half a good season in Denver and was a liability after that. Not resigning him was the correct move.

The Eagles made a reasonable deal to Maclin. He just wanted to get paid. It would be interesting to see what Roseman would have done but I imagine he would have let Maclin walk too given the terms of the deal.

  103. 103 Mr. Magee said at 2:48 AM on March 10th, 2016:

Agree on Dawkins. We’re in the minority, though.

No idea what Roseman would have done re Maclin, but he had us over a barrel – absolutely had to overpay and re-sign him last year (and it should have been done long before the 11th hour).

  104. 104 Buge Halls said at 10:14 AM on March 10th, 2016:

I guess you forgot that the coach who got rid of all those guys isn’t here any more! And FFS, DAWK? MAybe you should complain about Reggie too! Sheesh!

  105. 105 wee2424 said at 1:43 AM on March 10th, 2016:

Logan will be great as a 4-3 DT, and trading him will leave you extremely low at that position. He is a young player on the rise. Would be very foolish to trade him.

    I don’t think Barwin gets you a 3rd.

  106. 106 wee2424 said at 1:41 AM on March 10th, 2016:

I really don’t think we could afford to cut Mathews now. Would leave RB dangerously thin. Besides we would only save 2 mil with a 2 mil cap hit. Not worth it. Recent reports suggest he isn’t up for trade.

Doubt Barwin gets traded. The new D requires a waves of pass rushers. I also think it may be possible in a pinch he could be used as a SAM.

  107. 107 Cafone said at 9:48 AM on March 10th, 2016:

Yeah, we bring in a defensive coach who is all about getting pressure with the defensive ends and people want to trade our best pass rushing defensive end? That doesn’t seem to make a lot of sense.

  108. 108 BobSmith77 said at 10:59 AM on March 10th, 2016:

Barwin will be a more effective pass-rushing end than Graham or Curry? I don’t see him having the size to beat Ts one-on-one consistently.

  109. 109 Media Mike said at 5:07 AM on March 10th, 2016:

There is only two moves this offseason so far I haven’t liked – Daniel signing and Curry extension.

Still some defensible reasoning behind both too including Bradford’s injury history and Curry’s passing rushing ability & potential as a DE.

  113. 113 Dude said at 1:25 AM on March 10th, 2016:

I can’t imagine why you don’t like the Curry extension. Dude is a beast. Disruptive animal.

  114. 114 BobSmith77 said at 1:31 AM on March 10th, 2016:

Curry gets a lot of love on here. I don’t see it especially as a full-time starter. Also disappears in a lot of changes too.

Reminds me of Graham in that regards. He has some moments and some good games. Also has some games where he gets his ass handed to him too.

  119. 119 wee2424 said at 1:36 AM on March 10th, 2016:

You have to take into account the increase in cap space. We have to take that into account while judging contracts now. Yes Currys contract is a projection, but I do think this is the perfect scheme fit for him.

Daniels is more then I would have expected, but as crazy as it may sound if you look into the contract breakup I think Pederson truly views him as some type of competition to Bradford.

  120. 120 Dude said at 1:44 AM on March 10th, 2016:

This looks like an insurance policy, plain and simple. Our best bet for a competitive season is Bradford. He is injury prone and has only played well (enough) in midnight green for 7 games. If he comes out and poops the bed for 4 games, bench him, play the “bridge QB”, and cut Sammy at the cheapest opportunity. Or hold on to Sammy in case Chase can’t play either. Or, take a QB at 8 and then we all know the script from there.

  121. 121 wee2424 said at 1:47 AM on March 10th, 2016:

Bradford contract could easily be terminated at the end of this season. Again, look at Daniels contract breakdown and it may give you an idea of what I am speaking of.

Yes I do think Bradford gives us the best opportunity to win.

  122. 122 Dude said at 1:54 AM on March 10th, 2016:

I’m not disagreeing necessarily. Dougie has already said that he thinks Chase can play. If we get a starting QB for 6-9 mil/yr, I’m all for it. But coming into the season, Bradford has the more proven track record, as un-illustrious as it is. He is the clear front runner to be the starter. If we draft a QB at 8, then the plan will be clear.

  123. 123 Gian GEAGLE said at 8:33 AM on March 10th, 2016:

On one hand, annoying to see national media raving about how after yesterday the Giants put themselves on top of the NFC east with how much they improved their team, making them an instant favorite to win our division, but on the other hand it is nice to have made a lot of moves that improve our team while flying under the radar and not being talked about as the FreeAgency champions again

Certainly had to pay a lot for Those improvements, but I’d much rather face the Giants with a bunch of Cap space in their back pocket, than to have to face a aGiants team with a pretty nice DL in Vernon, Damian Harrison, Hankins and JPP. Janoris Jenkins is a clear upgrade to princess amakamura..
    ..
if you don’t draft well, what are you gonna do? Waive the white flag and surrender because you failed in the Draft? If you don’t hit on your picks you are forced to get your talent in the Open Market, and 90% of the players signed the first few days are overpaid.. That’s the nature of the open market… Sure we can call them bad contracts, I also call it the Giants having to do what it takes to improve that putrid roster.. This is a clear illustration of just how crucial the draft is and how extremely valuable draft picks are in today’s NFL
    ….
Id be much happier seeing them strike out in free agency and not be able to add Talent. Their cap might not be great now, but it’s a much more talented team than it was two days ago

I really hope this stops folks from downing Jeff Lurie anymore. The guy swung big with Kelly and missed–but he tried to be daring to win. He then stopped the bleeding and further damage by cutting ties with Kelly. He has ditched the unproductive malcontents and at considerable cost to his pocket to help the Eagles improve quicker. He has proven time and time again that he just wants to win and doesn’t value his profits over winning. He doesn’t meddle with player personnel or coaching. He hires the folks that he thinks are good and lets them work, which is the hallmark of a good leader. I really hope Eagles Nation can realize that we have a very good owner that wants to bring us a Championship.

  217. 217 Julescat said at 11:32 AM on March 10th, 2016:

Lurie is definitely a good owner

  218. 218 Cafone said at 11:42 AM on March 10th, 2016:

Lurie is the perfect owner. He got us a new stadium that is awesome. He hires people to run the team and then steps out of the way. He gave Andy Reid an extra year to get things right, which he deserved. And he made quick decisive moves to cut ties with Ray Rhodes and Chip Kelly. Everything that it is his job to take care of is done at the highest level, and he doesn’t overstep his bounds.

There is only one area where he has completely failed the fans in my opinion: the price of food at the stadium. People pay a lot of money for tickets and parking only to get raked over the coals if they want to get something to eat. He should step in and correct that situation.

  219. 219 A Roy said at 11:55 AM on March 10th, 2016:

I paid $19.50 for two stinkin’ drafts at the Flyers game last week. That’s a problem all over. Drafts at a Ravens game were $8.50 last fall. Sorry I have no food point of reference, but we generally tailgate and don’t buy food at the stadium.

  220. 220 fran35 said at 12:22 PM on March 10th, 2016:

I believe those prices are vendor driven. They sign the contract for the leased space and do their thing. I would be surprised to find that the club drives the prices-or has any influence- on the food and beverage prices.

Could/should the owner’s have something drafted into the lease about price gouging? Maybe, especially because outside food and drink are not permitted. Just not sure. It kind of takes the free market dynamics out of it.

  221. 221 RobNE said at 12:25 PM on March 10th, 2016:

the owner would just get less rent from the vendor. So ultimately I think yes you can blame the owner. It’s not enough to make a billion.

  222. 222 fran35 said at 12:33 PM on March 10th, 2016:

Point taken. In the end, we all are paying for the Byron Maxwell and Demarco Murray dead money. A good owner realizes the amount of money we fans pay and strives to put a good product out there. If you ask me if I had to pay 8.50 for a draft and watch a team that eats crap contracts in full efforts to compete, I guess I would. I am not saying I agree with the prices, I just agree in their right to do what they want.

In the end, I blame the damn spoons and forks. They made me fat.

  223. 223 Cafone said at 1:03 PM on March 10th, 2016:

“It became clear at the end of the year [Kelly] wanted to certainly go at the wide receiver position differently.

“Once that decision was made it was a matter of whether we were going to be able to make any kind of trade.

“And when it was obvious there were going to be no trade offers, the fair thing to the player was to release him.

“And in today’s NFL, it’s not surprising that would happen with double-digit contracts.

“You don’t see players getting traded these days, you see them getting released.”

  231. 231 Jernst said at 11:39 AM on March 10th, 2016:

Meh…even with Lurie’s direct quote, I still don’t completely buy it. Because, I think with Howie in charge, they wouldn’t have cut him. They’d have held onto that asset until a WR got hurt and they were able to move him. Or they’d let him continue to play for the Eagles. But they never would have cut him without getting anything in return. That was all Chip. I think Lurie’s quote tries to make it seem like it wasn’t such a bad move but it’s total BS. “You don’t see players getting traded these days, you see them getting released.” Really? Is that why we released Kiko, Maxwell and Murray?

  232. 232 Jernst said at 11:35 AM on March 10th, 2016:

Sure…Howie got a chance to gage some interest, it doesn’t sound like they were blown away with offers at that time…but then suddenly and without warning they cut DeSean for nothing. I’m sure if Howie was in charge they’d have kept working the phones until they had gotten something or they would have kept him.

  233. 233 Mac said at 11:36 AM on March 10th, 2016:

If Howie can get something for a 29 year old RB that looked shot last year and was coming off of a horrible year, you don’t think he could have gotten something for a 26-27 year old WR in the prime of his career coming off of his best season and someone who has consistently been the leagues best deep threat? No f’in way. Howie gets something in that move.

Hargreaves only ran a 4.5. CB is the one position that I really just don’t like taking someone high without really good top end speed. You can have the greatest technique in the world, but if a WR runs a 4.35 or a 4.4 and you run a 4.5, they will run right past you. If I’m taking a CB in the top ten, he’s gotta have top end speed, period.

Then there’s another blip of success of CBs that were successful and had more than 4.55 speed that were drafted lower because of that like Asante but ended up being successful. But, speed is huge for CBs

  246. 246 Anders said at 12:16 PM on March 10th, 2016:

  294. 294 ACViking said at 1:15 PM on March 10th, 2016:

What was brutal was that Kelly let Maclin reach free agency.

Should Reid have called during the couple of days before free agency? No.

Did it make a difference, though, given that KC offered more money?

  295. 295 Nailed It! said at 1:18 PM on March 10th, 2016:

Hindsight of course being 20/20 Kelly should not have let him go. But the precedent has been set for teams getting compensation for similar tampering cases.

  299. 299 A_T_G said at 1:21 PM on March 10th, 2016:

If there is enough ugliness behind this to take picks from the Chiefs for an activity that goes on regularly, is it fair to acknowledge the possibility that Maclin reached free agency BECAUSE of the tampering? That he otherwise would not have learned of what the Chiefs were offering?

  300. 300 ACViking said at 1:26 PM on March 10th, 2016:

    ATG . . .

    Interesting theory.

Maclin’s agent would have learned about the Chief’s offer during the 2-day “anti-tampering” period.

During those couple of days, Maclin’s agent — Tom Condon — would have taken that number back to Kelly.

Also, contract numbers are kicked around at the Senior Bowl for possible FAs. (That’s where Condon found out no market existed for Bradford, I’d wager.)

All that aside . . . I’d be surprised if coaches aren’t talking to players they know during the season.

It’s a pretty messy business, all in all.

  301. 301 Gary Barnes said at 12:43 PM on March 10th, 2016:

I’m in a wait and see mode. Really like the moves Roseman has made so far, but we should all know by now that signing players to these deals is the easy part. Figuring out how to deploy, develop and utilize them is far harder.

We were all gaga over the signings of Maxwell and Murray last year, but the Eagles failed hard in developing and utilizing them.

Scheme fit matters and hopefully Roseman & Co. made that one of their primary focuses with these signings.

We’ve also opened up some more holes on the roster with these moves so RB, CB and LB in particular now are bigger issues than before. We have more time in FA and the draft to address those and I’ll need to see how that is done before I get the pom-poms out.

We’ve been burned so often before winning in March and then losing from Sept-Jan. We’ve done a lot of things that seem really good and should help us, but the proof will be in the pudding especially with a new coaching staff.

  302. 302 Tumtum said at 1:16 PM on March 10th, 2016:

All of those players were supposed to be perfect scheme fits. Pretty sure everyone pretty universally admitted we over paid for Maxwell, but it was a necessary evil. Even in hindsight, I don’t see how you don’t get Maxwell and Demarco (Once lesean was traded).

Yes they failed. Don’t think anyone forecasted how horrible Alonso and Demarco would be. Maxwell played pretty much how I expected, save the horrible tackling.

  313. 313 Tumtum said at 1:31 PM on March 10th, 2016:

I’ll defer then. I wouldn’t want him even if he is good as I envision (which is still a shell of his former self). Just the injuries he has been having show the age on him. He is an old old man… even at 31.

  314. 314 Gary Barnes said at 1:01 PM on March 10th, 2016:

Morris Claiborne is a FA, was a pretty high pick but the Cowboys were not able to develop/utilize him effectively. Is he a bust or does he have talent we might be able to unlock? If we wait out the market and can get him cheap, is it worth a shot? We certainly could use the CB help.

  315. 315 TypicalDouche said at 1:03 PM on March 10th, 2016:

  316. 316 ACViking said at 1:12 PM on March 10th, 2016:

A year ago, Kelly’s praises were being sung for exploiting “market inefficiencies” on injured players . . .

  317. 317 Spooonius said at 1:21 PM on March 10th, 2016:

True. But it seems like that’s a strategy that the Eagles have followed for a while. I’m too lazy to do the research right now, but over the years they’ve put way too much stock in injured players; both FAs and guys already on the roster. ‘Sports science’ just made it worse. I’m sure everyone does that to some extent I guess. I’m not a fan of that strategy.

  318. 318 Tumtum said at 1:21 PM on March 10th, 2016:

  326. 326 TypicalDouche said at 1:24 PM on March 10th, 2016:

He was very hyped up coming out of college. He stepped into Patrick Peterson’s role the year after he left and played very well. 339. 339 Anders said at 1:24 PM on March 10th, 2016:

The problem might be that he is the best player at this point.

Ramsey, Tunsil, Bosa, Wentz, Goff, Buck, Buckner are good chance to be the 7 first players.

You then have Zeke, Hargreaves/Alexander, Mack, Stanley in the next tier and I say Zeke and healthy Mack is above the rest and in the same tier as the first 7 players

  340. 340 TypicalDouche said at 1:25 PM on March 10th, 2016:

If Stanley is there at 8 then they have to grab him.

  341. 341 Anders said at 1:28 PM on March 10th, 2016:

I have seen people who think his agility is not good enough to be a tackle.

  342. 342 TypicalDouche said at 1:30 PM on March 10th, 2016:

I have not heard that. I am just going off what I have seen out of him and how he would fit with the Eagles. He looks every bit the part of a LT and here he would be drafted to be RT. Definitely think he is worth it at 8 if he is available. I honestly do see him getting past the Ravens.

  343. 343 Mitchell said at 1:32 PM on March 10th, 2016:

Really? His footwork is impressive to say the least.

  344. 344 Anders said at 1:33 PM on March 10th, 2016:

  345. 345 TypicalDouche said at 1:34 PM on March 10th, 2016:

Put the combine aside and watch actual game tape of him. Your perception will change.

  346. 346 Anders said at 1:42 PM on March 10th, 2016:

Watching his stance, its clear he is a little stiff in either knees or hips as he is not a natural waist bender like Tunsil.

  347. 347 TypicalDouche said at 1:44 PM on March 10th, 2016:

Agreed that he isn’t on the level of the best o-lineman in the draft but there is a reason he is the 2nd best o-lineman. He is a stud and should b vey solid in the NFL.

  348. 348 RC5000 said at 2:01 PM on March 10th, 2016:

We have our left tackle. And you need to keep them and their agents happy. Top 10 guys want LT money. Its not like Lane’s deal is close to being up.

  349. 349 TypicalDouche said at 2:07 PM on March 10th, 2016:

Jason Peters might only be here for one more year. Yes I know Lane Johnson is the LT of the future but the Eagles can do the same thing with Stanley as they did with Lane in drafting him high to play RT and could always move him to LT. In that scenario you would have your 2 bookend tackles for the foreseeable future which is ideal.

  350. 350 RC5000 said at 2:20 PM on March 10th, 2016:

Its a different situation than Peters.Jason’s getting old they didn’t draft Peters replacement when he was 26. That’s about his age when we got Peters. I don’t particularly like getting two LTs with our only top 10 picks either. You’re planning LT 5-10 years from now.

  351. 351 TypicalDouche said at 2:23 PM on March 10th, 2016:

So your really in the belief that a RB at 8 is the better option then a stud o-lineman? That logic is beyond flawed. Outside of QB you must build through the trenches. Taking a RB that high is a luxury.

  352. 352 Mitchell said at 1:56 PM on March 10th, 2016:

Did he give up ANY preasure on the qb in the games you watched?

  353. 353 Anders said at 2:39 PM on March 10th, 2016:

I put on the clemson tape first, and he looked bad when his 1v1 man didnt mush rush.

Having a mobile QB reduces how often a tackle has to take on a defender directly 1v1 because they often mush rush

  354. 354 Mitchell said at 3:35 PM on March 10th, 2016:

That didnt answer the question. I dont really want him at 8 but he will be a good LT.

  355. 355 Anders said at 3:47 PM on March 10th, 2016:

If we the pass rusher isnt trying to get to the QB, but just contain him, the tackles wont give up as many preassures.

  356. 356 Mitchell said at 5:16 PM on March 10th, 2016:

Clemson wasn’t his best game. Temple may be a better example. Regardless, he’s a good prospect and will get taken high. I don’t think he is worth 8 for us, however.

  357. 357 Cafone said at 1:31 PM on March 10th, 2016:

Stanley would probably be there at 13

  358. 358 TypicalDouche said at 1:31 PM on March 10th, 2016:

That wont happen. 2nd best LT in the draft falling past o-lineman needy teams, I can see it happening.

  359. 359 RC5000 said at 1:34 PM on March 10th, 2016:

Why do we have to get him? We already took a left tackle in top 10. Right tackle or guard in top 8 isn’t great value. I think it’s probably going to be a move for a QB but Elliott is worthy of top 10 pick.

  360. 360 TypicalDouche said at 1:37 PM on March 10th, 2016:

I agree that a lot of signs point to a move to move up for a QB but at the same time in no way would I take a RB over a stud o-lineman. You build through the trenches first. Also there are too many RBs to be had in the later rounds that are studs as well.

  361. 361 TypicalDouche said at 1:41 PM on March 10th, 2016:

Devontae Booker, Kenneth Dixon, and Alex Collins are just to name a few good RBs to be had later.

  362. 362 RC5000 said at 1:58 PM on March 10th, 2016:

They aren’t studs like Zeke. I like Dixon. Isn’t Booker coming off injury or am I wrong?

Collins 40 time makes me a tad nervous but I really had an eye on him. But Dixon and Collins could be gone.

There’s other guys that might be stopgaps like Drake, Perkins. But again none of them are Elliott but I recognize you can make that argument for everyone.

If the Eagles can’t get (or don’t want) a QB —

Then it’s an OT or CB.

Seems to fit with the Roseman / Pederson throwback-to-Reid era philosophy for team building.

  364. 364 TypicalDouche said at 1:39 PM on March 10th, 2016:

I agree AC. I just don’t see a corner, not named Ramsey, worthy of a top 10 pick in this draft. VH3 is a good player but I wouldn’t be happy if they took him at 8. A trade back then yes but even then you can trade back far enough to get a Mackensie Alexander or someone like that later.

  365. 365 ACViking said at 1:41 PM on March 10th, 2016:

    Yes on the CB theory.

  366. 366 RC5000 said at 2:05 PM on March 10th, 2016:

Why would you trade to 8 for a CB or RT? CBs will be there at 13.We have a top 10 LT.

  367. 367 ACViking said at 2:31 PM on March 10th, 2016:

New conventional NFL wisdom is you need 2 starting OTs — and Peters is a short-timer.

Eagles are light at impact CB (since prime Asante 6-7 years ago).

I assume the Eagles see 5-6 players as a cut above in Rd 1 and want to get one.

Don’t think it’s a DL or RB the team wants.

  368. 368 RC5000 said at 3:16 PM on March 10th, 2016:

Do you mean they need 2 LT level OTs? I don’t know what you’re exactly saying AC.
Eagles had Tra who was 12th or 14th pick and Runyan who they signed to big contract at time.
It doesn’t equate to drafting two LT s in top 10. I would prefer trading down and getting a good RT prospect who would fit your 2 starting OTs but I’m not sure if you want that.

  369. 369 ACViking said at 3:29 PM on March 10th, 2016:

    RC5000–

Sorry I rushed through my response. (Duh, every team needs 2 starting OTs!!!)

What I meant was, new conventional seems to be that having *both* the RT and LT nearly equally proficient at pass blocking is the desired course.

(Guys like Von Miller and Justin Houston rush from the offense’s right now.)

But I see what you’re saying about the *cost* of acquisition. Raises good questions.

  375. 375 b3nz0z said at 2:21 PM on March 10th, 2016:

the BPA approach requires discipline. if he’s the best player at 8 you either take him or trade down imo. that’s IF he’s the bpa and i’m not smart enough to make that determination

  376. 376 Gian GEAGLE said at 3:04 PM on March 10th, 2016:

Not so much the BPA, more of a case of grouping playërs by Tiers… That Top Tier of Blue Chip prospects will probably be made up of 8-11 players, at #8 we will end up seeing one or two players left from that Top Tier and we can choose the player left that plays a more valuable position or fills a bigger need, but if there is only 1 top tier player left, we take the blue chip prospect and don’t have the luxury of being picky about Position… .. Now it’s also very possible that we have a High Grade on Zeke, but don’t have him grouped in with that top Tier and instead view him as one of the top guys of that 2nd tier of first round prospects, in which case he won’t be drafted with the 8th pick..
    ..
But at #8, it’s a mistake for people to discuss positions and specific players to Target, because we will have minimal options, whatever top tier player or two is available when we pick is who we will choose from, and if a RB happens to be the last of the Blue Chip prospects, prepare to see the Eagles draft a RB
    ..
The Eagles have a lot of players but lack true star power, and THATS where it becomes really important that we remain Discaplined like you said, and Take whatever blue chip prospects so available giving us the best chance of getting more star talemt that we desperately lack….. Hate to break it to people, but we won’t be in position to be picky about finding star talent at a certain position we deem to be a major need of a more valuable position.. Have to be Discaplined about it and take whatever blue chipper is left for us at #8 and make the most out of this great opportunity to be picking so high.. The worst thing we can do is to fuck up our chance at star power trying to target positions and scoffing at star power at certain positipns… Fortunately Roseman knows better than to be a positipn snob with the #8th pick…
    ..
You can only be a position snob if it’s your turn to pick and there are a bunch of players available with the same grade at the top of your board, in that Case, we can be more picky about NEED and positional Value … At #8, there is NO CHANCE Of us having that luxury so people can forget their positional bias because roseman won’t let positions fuck up this great opportunity to draft legit STAR potemtial…. At #8 Roseman won’t have many options IF ANY!
    ..
I like Eric Flowers. People laughed at the Giants drafting him, but I believe he will be a solid LTs for a long time, but THANKFULLY the Giants GM was stupid enough to go with NEED, to go with The more valuable position, and we lucked out at not having to face Todd Gurley twice a year for the bettet part of the decade
    ..
Seeing a RB Woethy of a top 10 pick won’t be a common Occurence, but when there is a special RB prospect available, overlooking a future star at ANY position is stupid, and it would really be foolish for a team like us that basically needs to add 3 New RBs over the next two offseasons
    ..
For people who don’t want Zeke you have to hope that the Eagles have a high grade on him, but don’t view him as one of the 8 best prospects in this draft which is a real possibility, but we won’t pass on a chance to get one of the elite prospects in this draft because of a position or Need..
    .
The Last position we NEED is TE… Would you be ok watching the Eagles pass on a chance to add the next Gronk, Jimmy Graham, Tony Gonzales type of Great TE because TE isn’t an immediate need and and isn’t as highly valued of a position? What ismt a NEED today, can very Quickily becone a major need a year later, so you don’t pass on elite prospects with GAMEBREAKER potential because of immediate need or positional value… Im confidently Roseman will show this type of discapline ESPECIALLY at #8 where our options will be very limited… We don’t have NFL star power besides Cox, now that JP is getting Old.. We need that elite Talemt at any position we can get it, Roseman won’t screw up this awesome opportunity to get the 8th best player over positions.
    ..
Of course it’s very possible ZEKE doesmt last to us, and it’s also possible that Roeman has him at the Top of the second Tier of players, in which case we won’t be Draftimg him at #8… But if he has a Grade worthy of that 8th pick, Roseman will show that Discapline and draft him,,,
    ..
What’s funny is so many people scoff at drafting a RB high. And would laugh and rip the Cowboys if they take a RB at #4, but I would see nothing remotely funny about seeing ZEKE running behind that Dallas OL, protecting Romo twice a year..
    ..
It’s rare that there is a RB special enough to be worthy of a top 10 pick, and I have no idea if the Eagles will have that high of a grade on him, but the rare times when a special back is available, passimg on him because of simple minded Genralizations Bout need and positional value is what Dumb GMs do… To say that No RB are every worthy of a top 10 pick is just stupid. Whether or not ZEKE is a Special Back. or just a really good back is what will decide if Roseman passes on him if he is available at #8, but to say Roseman would NEVER take a RB that high is just dumb and ignorant

Love to see him run behind the Lane/Brooks tandem on the right side..If there is a better player available, take the better player. It’s preety simple.
    ..
Like I said It will come down to the evaluation… We Know he is a great RB prospects, but it will come down to if we see him as a great First round RB prispect, or if we see him that SPECIAL rare RB prospect that is worthy of a top 10 pick…. If they see him as a special RB and he happens to be at the top of our board at #8, than he will be worthy of the pick..
    .,
We don’t currently have any room for a TE, but if a TE was the most special player available at #8, you draft Him and make room for him…unlike TE, we have plenty of work to do buildimg our stable of RBs the next two years, to get a star at a big need like RB, is nothing to complain about..
    ..
People Devalue Guards, Id Love to be able to get an Elite top Tier Guard at #8, there just aren’t any in this draft class… Every Position can be used as a tremendous weapon if you have a great enough player,,, like you said, it’s crazy to scoff at adding a great player who will carry the ball 25 times, help our QB, Help our defense and have a positive effect on ball control/Time of Possession… It just comes down to if HOWIE grades him as someonein the 1-10 range, or 11-20 range..

Created a QB controversy, and was just way too much for a 29 year old with 1 freaking TD pass in his career (and 1 INT). ..
Ultimately, Nolan, boykin, or Thurmond, bringing any back would be great..
    .
If we Do bring Thurmond back, I assume he would be used as a Corner not a Safety which is perfectly fine.. ideally It will be Nolan who is a quality ST Gunner, and can play every CB position. he is also younger and I see him as a player who is still developing and growing his craft who’s best ball is still ahead of him.. So ranking them on my wish list would be
    .
    1) Best case scenario Nolan Carroll
    2) Thurmond (more versatility than Boykin)
    3) Boykin, sure miss seeing Him on special teams

They have to add a WR in FA, but it could easily just be a cheap depth signing who at best will compete with Huff for #3 WR snaps..

Lane Johnson was put in the worst position possible last year, being forced to spend game time playng next to just about every Guard on our roster over the course of a season.. Whether we think he had a good season or not, you don’t get to see the best a 3rd year tackle is capable of playing next to so many guards in one season, and even having to play on both sides at times..
    ..
Kind of impressive how Lane was able to develop and thrive while being drafted into a less than ideal, and at times a dysfunctional situation:
    .
    1) As a inexperienced Tackle with only one year of RT experiemce, he was drafted to immediately start, and line up next to the weak Link of what was an elite Line, Todd Herremans who will be remembered as a Great Eagle but who was declining in the twilight of his career when Lane was drafted, still the declining veteran and the raw rookie tackle were able to have a soIid yeàr holding down the right side of one of the leagues very best OLB in 2013..
    .
    2) His Sophmore season, Herremans was shot. He had rabidly declined from the previous year, and injuries all over the line caused a big decline from what was a top OL the year before..didn’t help that he had to also serve his PED suspension
    .
    3) 2015 the breaking point, our OL went down the toilet. gardner emerged from the pffseason battle as the starting RG and he was lost for the season immediately. After Gardner was lost to injury, with chip losing Mathis, everything spiraled out of control. lane DIDNT have the year 3 we had hoped for, but he proved to be the type of gritty Warrior this city needs protecting Bradford. This kid was a warrior in every way, playing with injuries, linning up next to every guard on the roster, even switched side with little notice or time to prepare.
    ..
After everything Lane has had to deal with, im so excited to see them bring a Big, Monster of a Mauler who has been durable and hopefully bring stability to that RG spot and build a chemistry with Lane that should make the right side of our Line as potent as it has been since Runyon patrolled the right side..
    ..
lane an athletic freak, next to a big strong Mauler should be a very exciting Tandem while Lane remains on the Right side

If Chip kelly was still in charge lol, what would we have gotten back in the trade forMaxwell and Kiko?
    .
Tell me you can’t see a team take advantage of him after how they saw him clearly operate as a novice GM last year, and get Chip to give up some type of compensation to take Demarco Murray off his hands who you know chip wouldn’t have wanted on the team this year? What’s scary is that chip has no concept or respect for “Value”, so he is capable of being stubborn and crazy enough to want to take a 13mil cap hit to cut him and get him out of his sight a year after giving him a crazy contract, when a coach with a brain would rather pay him 6mil to just stay home instead of paying double to cut him.
    ..
By now teams now how chip has no respect for asset value part of the GM game. They know he has no Patiemce and probabky would have tried to take advantage of that and make chip swap a 4th round pick for a teams 5th round pick to take Demarco off our hands or some type of compensation….. The Fact that Roseman could get a team to take Murray after the disgrace he put on tape last season is a win In itself, to actually get some type of positive compensation for Murray is the most we could have hoped for..
    ..
If Roseman can get some type of trade value for Taylor Hart, Ryan Mathews, Caleb Sturgis, and Sanchez and put together one of his better Drafts, this could go down as one of his best Offseasons of Rosemans GM career.,,. So far, things are going really well, but the Draft is really the crucial part of the Offseason. A bad draft would ruin all the good he has accomplished so far tbis offseason. This franchise will only go as far as our Drafts take us… Put together two great drafts these next two years, expect great things…. Screw up these next two drafts and we will spend two more years floating around .500

Everyone knows the 49ers don’t want Kaep, and there are three teams bidding for him. The team not wanting him means absolutely nothing.

  479. 479 oreofestar said at 5:17 PM on March 10th, 2016:

Yes, but the 49ers will not cut him, there’s really no value in a guy every knows we don’t want, and knows we will cut, if multiple teams are interested I guess you could be right, and I hope you are, would save us 1M to trade which may be worth more than any conditional 7th in 2018

  480. 480 BlindChow said at 5:21 PM on March 10th, 2016:

The 49ers would absolutely cut him, they don’t want to pay 16M to a backup QB.

As far as Sanchez, there’s no real rush to cut him right now. They have plenty of cap space for the time being, so as long as that’s set, you might as well hang onto him to see how things shake out…

  481. 481 oreofestar said at 5:22 PM on March 10th, 2016:

Fair enough, hope Sanchez thing is resolves soon, don’t wanna hang onto him and just dump him in May

Even Pederson said today that they have Bradford as the starter, Daniel as the backup, and they are looking for a #3 (I assume in the draft). Sanchez is not in his thoughts whatsoever. So… he’ll be released if Roseman doesn’t think he can trade him. Trading ensures we get 4.5 million cap relief, while cutting means we’d get 3.5 and hope to get 4.5 if he signs for more than $1 million (i.e. would have to wait for the offset language to kick in). Plus we might get a marginal asset like a 7th rounder.

  483. 483 Gian GEAGLE said at 5:26 PM on March 10th, 2016:

Not neccessarily, obviously teams know they can trade peanuts and get Sanchez, and he has a pretty favorable one year contract teams may rather give up chump change to get him on that contract, instead of having to sign him on the open market where all it takes is one team being interested to drive up the price a bit..
    ..
If you can give up minimal value to ensure that you get sanchez, and get him on a contract you are comfortable with, gives us a chance of seeing Sanchez traded, especially when teams know they won’t have to give up anything close to significant because we would be happy just to get the Cap Rammifications of Trading him, compared to cutting him..
    ..
So yes, there is a chance we can find someone “stupid enough to take him”

Just from a numbers stand point you would think the Eagles will have to come out of Free Agency with a WR. Everyone would love a difference making WR but this FA market probably won’t provide one so we may have to settle for a #4, #5 WR type who can help mentor our WR puppies and compete with Huff for playing time,
    .
When you look around at WHATS left on the market, the Andre HOLMES kid is probably the guy who can contribute the most on the field… his size is always a welcome addition, but I feel like adding some top end Speed at WR is a little more important.
    ..
beggers can’t be choosers in this WR market, we probably have to settle for a #3, #4 type of FA WR…
    ..
However, Roseman is one crafty Mofo this year who has had more success than most pulling off player for player trade, so we may have some hope that he can trade someone like Sanchez, Ryan Mathews, Taylor hart,or Caleb Sturgis and get some type of WR in return. Be great if there is a team or two trying to unload a WR in a trade.

Shame MIKE Wallace is an idiot who never lives up to his potential, and who you don’t want in your locker room. Since we don’t have enough WR to field a team łet alone enough for training camp, so WRs will have to be added one way or another

  504. 504 Gian GEAGLE said at 5:36 PM on March 10th, 2016:

    ..
Unfortunately we can’t go into the season with only jordan, Nelson, Huff, 5 Undrafted WRs and Freddie Martino and Krause,.. We have no choice but to sign at least 1 deoth WR and draft one at some point after round 3…
    .
But the success of our WRs will almost entirely fall on Greg Lewis and what he can get out of Jordan, Nelson and Huff
    ..
Fortunately our coach comes from a team that has Experiemce having to make due with throwing to TEs and RBs to compensate for lack of WR’s if need be…
    ..
Fill enough holes this year, have a good draft and maybes we can afford to draft another WR next year if huff doesn’t take that next step

don’t we want an impact player if we pick at 8?
meaning a qb of course, but Elliot would be a huge impact no?
I know he’s a RB but they get the ball more then any other position every game. so why not if he’s that good?
you’d take gurley, why not ZEKE?
why not zeke, why not zeke.

  590. 590 Nick C said at 8:32 PM on March 10th, 2016:

I Like Zeke. But I feel like taking a RB in the top 10 better be a generational talent. With all our other depth issues, I would like a premium position. When premium positions (QB, OT, CB, maybe LB, WR) are handled through the draft, you will get excellent value on those players over the 4-5 year life of their rookie contract.

  591. 591 botto said at 8:39 PM on March 10th, 2016:

I hear ya, I was just thinking that if a guy gets the ball 25 times a game and is awesome, that’s value.

  592. 592 Nick C said at 8:50 PM on March 10th, 2016:

To me, in my opinion, it comes down to resource allocation and opportunity cost. We have the running ability and 3rd down back in our two backs currently. I would like another added thru the draft tho. So I consider the difference between Zeke and Mathews/Sproles to be less than the difference between a top talent corner and our current CB1; less than putting a Ronnie Stanley in place of Barbre doll/Turnstile Tobin/ Gardner; less than the difference between Jack and Bradham. Obviously the QBs are in play if they fall, and we all know the importance of that position.

    Again, just my opinion.

  593. 593 daveH said at 10:27 PM on March 10th, 2016:

If i read you correctly. .. a huge dif btw great and good in many positions … but alot of RB’s sre athletic and thus important to have good but not as important to have ‘best’… i agree

  594. 594 anon said at 8:36 PM on March 10th, 2016:

Rbs are only as good as their OL, QBs are only as good as their OL. On the defensive side a defense is only as good as its pass rush. If there’s not a marquee pass rusher i’d go with OL.

  595. 595 Nick C said at 8:39 PM on March 10th, 2016:

Couldn’t agree more. Build the lines first. Our D-line is pretty good (could always be better), so I probably wouldn’t mind going with a LB or Secondary impact player though. I really like Ramsey, Jack, VHIII, Stanley, Buckner.

  598. 598 The original AG said at 8:47 PM on March 10th, 2016:

I’m a little lukewarm on him at 8 if you can trade back for someone just as good. I need to go back again and look closer at Mackensie Alexander, Kendall Fuller, Eli Apple.
