What A Day
Posted: March 9th, 2016 | Author: Tommy Lawlor | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 607 Comments »Howie Roseman and the Eagles came out swinging. Or should I say signing.
The Eagles signed:
OG Brandon Brooks
S Rodney McLeod
QB Chase Daniel
CB Ron Brooks
LB Nigel Bradham
Did I forget anyone?
The Eagles finalized a pair of trades as well.
- CB Byron Maxwell and LB Kiko Alonso to Miami for a swap of 1st round picks
- RB DeMarco Murray to the Titans for a swap of 4th round picks
Wow. What a day.
The move I’m happiest about is signing McLeod. Along with Malcolm Jenkins, he gives the Eagles a pair of terrific Safeties. McLeod isn’t huge, but he’s fast, hits and tackles. He’s young and should have his best years ahead of him. He played in a scheme that is somewhat similar to what Jim Schwartz will run. I think McLeod has a chance to play well right away.
The most important move was signing Brooks. The Eagles needed OL help. Brooks gives them a young, big OG to plug in right away. The line hasn’t had a physical presence like him on the inside since…Jamaal Jackson in 2009? The Eagles have had good OGs, but not big, physical players that could overwhelm defenders.
Daniel is the most interesting addition.
From @adamschefter and I: Chase Daniel agreed to a 3-year, $21m deal with $12m fully guaranteed with #Eagles.
— Adam Caplan (@caplannfl) March 9, 2016
Spoke to Chase Daniel some while in KC doing Pederson stories. Was impressed. Jason Avant spoke highly of him. Will be good in locker room.
— Jeff McLane (@Jeff_McLane) March 9, 2016
That’s a lot of money for a backup QB. Word is that Daniel will compete for the starting job. I expect Bradford to win, but the Eagles believe enough in Daniel to pay him well and let him compete. Daniel played for Pederson in KC so he can help teach the offense to his new teammates.
Interesting to see how much $ goes to backup QBs this cycle…Cowboys proved it's a worthy investment.
— Daniel Jeremiah (@MoveTheSticks) March 10, 2016
Doug Pederson has talked about having a group of good QBs. As a player for Miami, he was on the roster with Dan Marino and Scott Mitchell. In Green Bay, he played with Brett Favre, Matt Hasselbeck and others. The Eagles had Pederson, Donovan McNabb and Koy Detmer.
The Eagles hope Sam Bradford plays well, but will have Daniel in place to challenge him. Ideally, both will play well. Then the Eagles will have a pair of good QBs. Bradford isn’t the type of QB to play all season every season so having a good backup is especially important with him being the starter.
Mark Sanchez hasn’t been cut. I’m sure the Eagles will try to trade him. If that doesn’t work (and you shouldn’t hold your breath on that happening), they’ll cut him in the future. When SF cuts Kap, they will have an opening for a QB…one who knows the Kelly offense.
Brooks is in Philly to help on STs and be a backup CB. He did play for Buffalo in 2014 when Schwartz was there. Brooks has played on the inside and outside so he is versatile, but his real value is on STs.
Bradham comes to the Eagles to be the SAM LB.
Nigel Bradham's contract with the #Eagles is for two years. So not exactly "long-term." Working on getting some numbers …
— Jeff McLane (@Jeff_McLane) March 10, 2016
Mychal Kendricks will play the WIL position and Jordan Hicks will run the defense from his MLB spot. Bradham, who is 6-2, 241, has the size and skill set to play SAM in this system. He’s started there before and had his best season under Jim Schwartz.
Great first day for Howie and the Eagles. They got young, ascending players. They got good value in terms of contract. Even Daniel, who got more than I expected, makes a bit of sense because he plays a primary position.
There is still work to be done.
The Eagles need WR help.
Report: Eagles interested in WR Andre Holmes https://t.co/4LJd0da53k pic.twitter.com/OoyfksPXHV
— BleedingGreenNation (@BleedingGreen) March 9, 2016
I mentioned Holmes in my FA preview. He has size and pretty good speed. He can play STs and has shown solid ability as a WR.
The Eagles could add another CB. They could go for a RB. They could add depth to the DL.
The team can now sit back and focus on players they like who have the right price tag. The key holes have been filled. Others will get filled in the draft.
Howie can also be happy about having the 8th overall pick and the first pick of the 4th round. With the 8th pick, the Eagles can really target a player or two. They could still go for a QB. There will be lots of other options. I don’t have any favorite scenarios right now.
There could still be action tomorrow, but don’t expect anything like the flurry of moves the team made today. Crazy.
*****
So the Giants and Eagles are throwing around big money and the Cowboys and Redskins are being prudent. Of course. #NFCEast
— Andrew Brandt (@AndrewBrandt) March 9, 2016
How is that for funny?
_
I’m shocked the Cowboys didn’t make Romo redo his contract again today to shift money out past 2020
They probably fear his shoulder falling off signing the thing
They have done that so many times they really can’t afford to do that anymore. His cap hit this year is 8.5 million salary plus 12.3 million in prorations from previous signing bonuses and cap games. And the salary jumps a lot starting in 2017.
I can see Chip giving up a 5th for Sanchez.
i dont
Me neither. He’ll wait for the Eagles to cut Sanchez. I’d be really surprised if the Eagles can traded Sanchez to any team for a draft pick at this point. If another team wants him, they’ll just wait until he gets released.
But… Chip
It’s just a cap hold for us. On cap space we’re not going to use in the short term. While you wait, he’ll miss OTAs, then camp. Tick tock tick tock.
but then they’d have to compete with other teams wanting him. If a team wants him, they’ll give up a 7th.
Tommy, they actually have the second pick in the 4th round not the first.
Do you know why that’s the case? Do they flip the 1 and 2 before round 4 every year? Was there a trade?
I read that it’s the second pick in the 4th. But it didn’t make a lot of sense to me. 1st pick would have been better, because teams re-visit their draft board after Day 2 and maybe fall in love with a player. Howie could have traded down if he wanted to.
Now of course, that’s still possible. It’s not a huge thing, I know that. But I think it helps a little bit to have the pick to start the day. Especially since you can’t trade the comp picks at the end of round 3.
Teams with the same record swap positions every round. Tennessee has the 2nd pick in round 2, 4, 6, etc.
I moved this from other thread. I Don’t see Bradham’s details on otc or spotrac. This is 11,850,000 2016 cap hit between other 4 today
http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/phi…
Chase Daniel Contract
2016: 5 Million cap hit
2017: 8 Million cap hit
2018: 8 Million cap hit
Contract Notes:
$12M initially guaranteed (signing bonus + 2016 salary, 2016 roster bonus, $5M of 2017 salary)
2016 Roster Bonus: $3M
70% playing time, (8-10 wins): $7.5M
3,500 passing yards: $3.75M (for all 3 years)
19 TD Passes: $3.75M (for all 3 years)
Brandon Brooks Contract
http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/phi…
2016: $3,200,000 Million cap hit
2017 :$7,200,000 Million cap hit
etc.
Contract Notes:
$17M initially guaranteed (signing bonus + 2016 base + 2017 base)
$3M of 2018 base guarantees later
Rodney McLeod Contract
http://overthecap.com/player/r…
2016: $2,600,000 Million cap hit
2017: $5,600,000 Million cap hit
etc
Rodney McLeod signed a 5 year, $35 million contract with the Philadelphia Eagles on March 9, 2016. The contrct has $13 million fully guaranteed upon signing including an $8 million signing bonus.
Ron Brooks Contract
Ron Brooks signed a 3 year, $5,500,000 contract with the Philadelphia Eagles, including a $750,000 signing bonus, $1,550,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $1,833,333.
http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/phi…
2016: $1,050,000 Million cap hit
2017: $2,100,000 Million cap hit
2028: $2,400,000 Million cap hit
I wouldn’t trust spotrac. Over the Cap is much better. Their numbers are not the same as what Pro Football Talk reported. PFT reported a $6M signing bonus and a $1M 2016 base salary.
Sportrac has a $3M signing bonus, $3M roster bonus, and $1M 2016 base salary. That basically matches the info overthecap has up, so guessing it’s accurate. There are $15M in incentives too. The 2016 cap number is swallowable but there is no way we keep both Daniel and Bradford in 2017.
Daniel’s cap figure will be $8M in 2017 depending on incentives are reached. It’d be possible that they could keep both but not without an extension for Bradford that lowers his 2017 cap charge.
From what I see it’s $8M at a minimum, before incentives. $5 million of that is fully guaranteed, plus $1M signing bonus proration, plus $2M non-guaranteed salary. I’m sure there are offsets, such that if he’s cut and signs elsewhere the Eagles will not have to pay a lot of that guaranteed money, but… it’s still a chunk of change.
I deleted it. I don’t want to confuse anyone. OTC didn’t have it at the time I could find. Now I can’t get in their site at all. I’ll just wait till tomorrow and look at it. I corrected Jason before a couple times using spotrac and vice versa. Spotrac is NBA and NHL bible so that’s why I’m more used to them.
Sometimes they get in synch but you’re much more into it than me.
Is anyone else scared the cowboys will draft Ramsey or Jack? Of they get Jack I could see them using him as a RB from time to time. Dude is the truth. Scary as a lb and with the ball in his hands
Doesn’t Ramsay have some serious injury issues?
No Ramsey is all good. May be the best athlete on the draft and currently is the #1 player on most boards at 2 positions, safety and cornerback. That’s just rare. Should be a top 4 pick for sure.
Never mind. I had him confused with Jaylon Smith
Possibly friend. Shame what happened to Smith, great player and another sure top 5 pick if he wasn’t hurt. I enjoyed watching him, hopefully he comes back strong.
Where or i should say when do you see smith going?
could be a team that takes a chance on him in the bottom first but at the same time it wouldn’t shock me to see him go in the 7th with the severity of his injury.
I think Tunsil, Wentz, Jack and Ramsey will be the top 4 picks. Eagles are probably selecting Buckner, Bosa, or Hargreaves
That’s a good way to get your LB injured. It’s the NFL.
LBs are risky picks these days …so many with injuries anymore.
Doesn’t scare me and I’m already assuming they will draft Jack or Ramsey. I can only hope they use their potential star LB as a RB though
im not scared of what the cowboys will do.
I’m scared of the Cowboys getting a good player at 4. Hopefully they take Bosa, because he’s the worst player being discussed in that mix.
Casey Hayward, Bilal Powell, Leon Hall, Craig Robertson, Tahir Whitehead
At this point there is not much need for outside of little contracts for upside players. Most things needed now are depth and can come through the draft. Im sure the Eagles sign another olineman and not much action after that. These moves give them endless possibilities in the draft.
I’m with you on this. I think we should wait for the draft at this point. Although I am slightly concerned about the CB position opposite Rowe
still options out there and I’m still confident in a Carroll deal but even if that doesn’t happen McKelvin or Brooks can play temporarily while they bring a rookie up. With such talented safeties the Eagles have the luxury to have average corners with the safety talent currently on the roster.
I’m doubting a Carroll deal. Don’t think we have the cap room. Especially if we want to be able to extend Cox at some point. Although that may be why we want to trade Mathews as well… which would create a need at RB though.
regardless if carroll returns or not they have options. They have the whole year to negotiate with Cox plus the franchise tag if necessary next year so I’m extremely confident Cox will be here for the long haul.
Yeah I think unloading max and Murray was more about creating space next year for Cox extensions
Still would like to see them bring in Nick Fairley.
id rather resign fletcher cox
I’d like both.
Damon Harrison was a good signing for the Giants.
Vernon is a good player but he got paid top tier Suh, Watt, Quinn money.
Jenkins got paid big money as well. His contract makes Maxwell’s deal look like a joke.
If the Giants were a 3-4 team, Harrison would be a good signing. They just plopped a 2 gap war daddy NT into a spot for a 1 gap 4-3 DT.
Harrison is a fantastic signing for the Giants… Team that was terrible defending the run added one of the best run stuffing DL in the game to pair next to Jonathon Hankins. Great signing for the Giants
How’s this quote for funny?
‘General manager Jon Robinson said Murray will be a workhorse for Tennessee and a model for the sort of guy the team now covets: “tough, dependable and team-first.”‘
He might be. Murray never had a rep for being a problem in Oklahoma or in Dallas.
I do expect Murray will be better next year if he comes into the year healthy & determined. Just don’t know about the ‘dependable’ part given his injury track record.
Still want to know how healthy Murray was here this year including how healthy he came into the year.
He lost “team first” for me when he took that slide in the Miami game. Also when he complained about his carries to the owner.
Yeah, the “tough, dependable, and team-first” guy who in his own words, “took last year off”!
Much easier to build a narrative to mve players when you have a new coach / scheme. Oh this player isn’t an ass it’s just that he does’nt fit into what the new guy wants to do, 13/13 in short yardage situations though
There was talent, no denying. Just not sure if it’s there anymore.
Another Murray gem: “You want to physically impose your will on the other team. Want to finish runs.”
Cue the play from the Miami game.
Giants are going all out this offseason. Must be trying to maximize Eli’s final years.
Washington fans think they are on Denver’s level already. I think the division will be even more competitive this year. I don’t see any team running away with it.
Aside from dumping off the big contracts I don’t think we are the major players in FA some are making us out to be.
Every time their team scores a touchdown, Washington fans extrapolate that out to the Super Bowl. Most delusional fanbase ever.
Skins seem like they have a competent GM who has a steady hand and longer-term vision on roster building. The worst thing is that Snyder legitimately appears to be willing to be a bit more hands off too in terms of player personnel.
Giants’ moves strike me more as desperation than anything. Throw a ton of money at the DL to shore up a really shitty defense. They still have a new coach & strike me as a .500 team right now.
It is possible that one of the Giants/Skins/Eagles/Boys teams is able to reach 11 wins next year now and win the NFC East, yeah I guess but it still strikes me as a 9-10 win division.
would be sweet if bosa fell to 8th….
I prefer Stanley, Hargreaves, or Jack with the 8th.
id take elliot over those 3
Elliot is only an option in a trade back for me. And only in the 20’s
Idk seems early for a,RB
No thank you on Elliot at 8.
if bosa isnt there and elliot is there.. thats who they will pick.
Not a fan. Hope he pushes another player down the board.
No thank you on Bosa.
too bad, if bosa is there thats who they will pick
That would be terrible
really? why would that be terrible? lol
bosa has PURE BUST WRITTEN ON HIS FOREHEAD,,,,,I hope hes gone b4 we pick
idk he looks pretty good. could be a beast in this defense.
My ideal draft.
Ten tunsil
Cle wentz
SD bosa
Dal Goff
Jax Ramsey
BAL Stanley
SF Lynch/not Jack
Phi miles fucking Jack 🙂
2 prong benefit. Add a serious talent at WIL backer AND help work Kendricks out of town.
I wonder what our plan is @ runningback.
Committee maybe mid late Rd pick with a good line running game works with any decent back
Mathews with off season surgery for groin, is just such an injury question mark, he was even before last season. He cant be trusted to take on a full load, or even counted on for as a full season rotation guy. So yeah, seems there is a number 1 running back hole, to take 18 or so carries a game, with Mathew, Barnes and Sproles splitting the rest. Zeke? Offense is sorely missing a weapon, someone that scares the other team’s defense, someone the other team has to game plan around. Maybe Ertz is the closest Eagles have now.
With Zeke, Pederson’s job would be a lot easier. When in doubt, run Zeke left behind Brooks and Peters. Or maybe Pederson likes Barnes a lot?
Who is Zeke? I agree we lack weapons on offense..
Ezekiel Elliott…RB Ohio State….
Gotcha
Brooks is gonna be the RG….
We definitely need a difference maker on offense. I know round 1 is high for RB’s, especially at 8, but if Stanley is gone, I like Zeke, unless they think they can trade back and get him later in the round.
As long as it doesn’t include Barner, I’m good with a mix and match approach.
I’ll take Kenneth Dixon.
Even with all of these moves and signings today, they only ended up committing another ~$4M vs the cap next year.
Roseman certainly showed he is pretty apt at managing the salary cap for the present and future.
Just needs to really nail the #8 pick. I don’t get any of the talk that the Eagles would be willing to move back from that pick which would kill any trade returns from moving Maxwell/Alonso. This roster is lacking top-tier talent and the Eagles need to get one with the #8 pick who immediately contributes next year as a starter.
I do not believe they trade down from the 8. You take the BPA when you’re that high in the draft. You don’t know when you’re going to be in this position again.
They DEFINITELY won’t be trading out of a chance to add one of the the elite 7 to 10 top tier blue chip prospects which is a GODSEND for a team so lacking of star talent
It all depends who is on the board and who is calling them with offers. If they think a couple of “their guys” will still be around and they can pick up an extra pick (maybe a #2) by sliding back, why wouldn’t they? Based on the draft points (FWIW), they could drop back to #12-14 and pick up a mid-high #2 pretty easy depending on how desperate the trading team is.
the more I read up on him the more that I want them to take Zeke Elliot. I know it should be OL our maybe Miles Jack but if Zeke there I hope they take him.
Yes we got rid of a slow over paid CB who refused to tackle, a skinny armed injury plagued LB who apparently couldn’t tackle and overpaid crybaby rb that didn’t want to be here who was afraid to be tackled. Saved cap space and actually got good compensation. #Howiewinning
For all of the BS talk about the importance of culture and fit, it strikes me this offseason that there is actually some real consideration for that vs the lip service that was paid to it last year.
I argued this defense quit last year at times on Billy Davis and essentially collapsed. Also lacked toughness and physicality. Seemed like made a real effort to change that today especially with the McLeod signing.
Nigel Bradham sounds like he is tough as nails too. Posted this story of his upbringing in the last thread, but if you didn’t read it you should. A guy who can overcome those circumstances is a guy to root for.
http://bills.buffalonews.com/2015/12/26/bond-of-brothers-bradhams-devoted-to-incarcerated-sibling/
Eagles’ fans do eat up defense and they should actually enjoy watching this defense next year a bit more.
Poised to the most physical unit they have had in several years along with actually be an average/slightly above average unit.
They have been a sieve in the 2nd half of the season every year since ’08 which forced them to score a ton of points to have a decent shot to win games.
I agree totally. Not sure if we have the personalities necessary to be a true Philly mean and nasty D yet, but we are heading in that direction. Can’t wait to see if Schwartz can get these guys to play on edge
Only time this defense didn’t play shitty in the 2nd half was in ’11 when they played a bunch of meaningless games down the stretch.
I’m hoping for better than “avg to slightly above avg”
+ Schwartz tends to have his guys play some very violent football.
thanks for the link. Felt great about the day, and after reading this, feel even better. His passion for football comes through – definitely get no Laughing-at-Failure, Sconces or Eating-in-Car vibe at all.
Thanks, good stuff
When he is on his game, he is a beastl!
https://youtu.be/dBoElJPT5Rs
Sanchez obviously is going to be traded/cut but I do wonder what the Eagles do with Barwin and Mathews. They strike me as 2 guys the Eagles will might look to trade too.
Adam Schefter reported Mathews will be on the roster this season. I agree, however, that Barwin could be a trade candidate either for a 4th or 5th round pick ( he has some value) or in a player for player deal. Maybe for a WR? Just a guess.
I would think with the contracts guys are getting, barwin would at least be worth a 3rd rounder… May be overvaluing, but I don’t see the point in trading him for very little value.
I think we may surprisingly see someone like Logan traded given the extension Cox is about to get. I know there are ways to make cap space, but our cap situation next year is very tight at the moment. A lot of these new deals have low cap hits this year and then seem to average out next year.
Logan is a young ascending player who the eagles drafted. We like to draft and keep our own. I would not expect him to be moved. That’s my opinion anyway. Barwin has been productive, but he is a bit older, and not a true fit in our new defensive scheme. If we keep him I am fine with it. I just think he is a player that could be moved. If he stays I would bet this is his last year in Philly.
“We like to draft and keep our own.”
Tell that to DeSean and JMack. And McCoy. And Dawk.
Barwin should be an excellent fit in the wide9. And he offers us the flexibility to play him at SAM if need be.
We always did before Chip, and we appear to do so now, as well.
What does Dawkins have to those previous 3? He had a little over half a good season in Denver and was a liability after that. Not resigning him was the correct move.
The Eagles made a reasonable deal to Maclin. He just wanted to get paid. It would be interesting to see what Roseman would have done but I imagine he would have let Maclin walk too given the terms of the deal.
Agree on Dawkins. We’re in the minority, though.
No idea what Roseman would have done re Maclin, but he had us over a barrel – absolutely had to overpay and re-sign him last year (and it should have been done long before the 11th hour).
I guess you forgot that the coach who got rid of all those guys isn’t here any more! And FFS, DAWK? MAybe you should complain about Reggie too! Sheesh!
Logan will be great as a 4-3 DT, and trading him will leave you extremely low at that position. He is a young player on the rise. Would be very foolish to trade him.
I don’t think Barwin gets you a 3rd.
I really don’t think we could afford to cut Mathews now. Would leave RB dangerously thin. Besides we would only save 2 mil with a 2 mil cap hit. Not worth it. Recent reports suggest he isn’t up for trade.
Doubt Barwin gets traded. The new D requires a waves of pass rushers. I also think it may be possible in a pinch he could be used as a SAM.
Yeah, we bring in a defensive coach who is all about getting pressure with the defensive ends and people want to trade our best pass rushing defensive end? That doesn’t seem to make a lot of sense.
Barwin will be a more effective pass-rushing end than Graham or Curry? I don’t see him having the size to beat Ts one-on-one consistently.
Barwin has a few things going against him.
– paid a lot to be the 3rd DE
– more of a 3-4 OLB
tommy — you left out CB McKelvin
I believe he was referring to today’s activity. McKelvin was signed Tuesday.
There is only two moves this offseason so far I haven’t liked – Daniel signing and Curry extension.
Still some defensible reasoning behind both too including Bradford’s injury history and Curry’s passing rushing ability & potential as a DE.
I can’t imagine why you don’t like the Curry extension. Dude is a beast. Disruptive animal.
Sure, there’s a bit of projection there, but it’s not like projecting a rookie in the pro’s. This dude has already shown he can play in the pro’s.
Curry gets a lot of love on here. I don’t see it especially as a full-time starter. Also disappears in a lot of changes too.
Reminds me of Graham in that regards. He has some moments and some good games. Also has some games where he gets his ass handed to him too.
How dare you?
I’m not calling him the Messiah or anything, but he will put up numbers if he stays healthy. Not guaranteed HOF, or any nonsense like that, but ProBowl potential. Like a Kevin Curtis kind of guy, not your MVP, but he will make plays that win games.
disappears? As in Chip/Billy would inexplicably stick him on the bench?
Curry has such a quick first step he fooled a commentator into thinking a neutral zone infraction wasn’t called.
You have to take into account the increase in cap space. We have to take that into account while judging contracts now. Yes Currys contract is a projection, but I do think this is the perfect scheme fit for him.
Daniels is more then I would have expected, but as crazy as it may sound if you look into the contract breakup I think Pederson truly views him as some type of competition to Bradford.
This looks like an insurance policy, plain and simple. Our best bet for a competitive season is Bradford. He is injury prone and has only played well (enough) in midnight green for 7 games. If he comes out and poops the bed for 4 games, bench him, play the “bridge QB”, and cut Sammy at the cheapest opportunity. Or hold on to Sammy in case Chase can’t play either. Or, take a QB at 8 and then we all know the script from there.
Bradford contract could easily be terminated at the end of this season. Again, look at Daniels contract breakdown and it may give you an idea of what I am speaking of.
Yes I do think Bradford gives us the best opportunity to win.
I’m not disagreeing necessarily. Dougie has already said that he thinks Chase can play. If we get a starting QB for 6-9 mil/yr, I’m all for it. But coming into the season, Bradford has the more proven track record, as un-illustrious as it is. He is the clear front runner to be the starter. If we draft a QB at 8, then the plan will be clear.
Doug also said “chase reminds me of Myself at QB”
..
To me Pederson DOESNT come off as an egomaniac so blinded by his ego that he viewed himself as a starting QB, and that we should be hoping to find a starting QB THATS a lot like him … So I call BS on Chase ever being considered a starting QB in This league
Curry in the last two seasons. Limited snaps/zero starts, 12.5 sacks, $9.25 mil AAV deal.
Vernon in the last 2 seasons. Ton of snaps, 32 starts, 14 sacks, $17 mil AAV deal.
I like Curry’s contract just fine.
Im baffled as to how it’s possible that there is a single Eagle fan that doesn’t like the Curry trade… That statement blows my mind
Do you prefer your crow in a sandwich, soup, or burrito? I’ll have it ready for you at the end of the season, with plenty of Curry.
I eat exotic stuff but never had crow. Maybe a burrito and some BBQ sauce?
Consider it done! haha… I’ve made a lot of burrito’s in my day, but never made one with curry or crow, sounds like a good challenge.
I honestly believe with his elite level first step in an attacking scheme that Curry will make some huge plays this year.
https://youtu.be/ycQ9mZWKOgI
Rams QB looked pretty good.
https://twitter.com/AndrewBrandt/status/707690211820642305
Both Eagles and Giants undergoing regime changes. Dallas and Redskins have stability this year. Giants less so than Eagles, but still some turnover I’m sure.
Those two teams have like no cap space.
I’m not sure how Giants have less stability then Eagles. I think the opposite is true. There OC switches to HC, so offensive scheme is same, defensive scheme is same among smaller things.
I meant the Giants are undergoing less of a regime change.
Understand.
And the Giants are wasting money. None of those 4 signings will provide production anywhere near their level of compensation.
Do we believe the eagles are done in FA for the most part? I think when things start to slow down after a week or so, I would not be surprised to see another OL, LB, and CB. Prices are going to drop and I’m sure Howie is prowling the tall grass.
At this point it’s all dependent on who is available and at what price. Howard’s ears are always open.
They HAVE to sign a WR (probably not a starter) ) because we only have 3 WR’s and we can’t draft two or three WRs this year
I doubt we are done, they will add another two players or so even tho they may be more depth signings instead of starter caliber signings.
..
Im sure the Eagles will sigń a WR even tho it will probably be depth signing instead of a starting WR… And Im still holding out hope that we end up bringing Nolan, Thurmond or boykin home
Checking out other team activity – the Broncos and Browns were decimated in the past day or so. Damn.
Bengals roster could also take a beating when it’s all said and done
Eagles got notably younger today too.
I still not sold on this team being notably better right now but they should be easier to root for including not questioning their effort at times like during this past year.
We won’t really know until we see a few games under their belt during the regular season, but I do like the direction they’re taking. Can’t wait to see how the draft rounds up.
Big question is how Pederson is as a coach. How hard does the team play, how well prepared are they, how are his in game decisions. All kind of unknowns. The assembly of his staff is encouraging, but we won’t really know until next year.
I’m not crazy at all that he will have offensive play-calling during the games. Awful lot to handle for any coach let alone a first-time head coach.
I agree. He seems like the weakest link at this point. He strikes me as a people pleaser, a nice guy who is always ready with a cliche’.
Pederson and Schwartz really seem to have opposite personalities.

don’t watch this
Why not
OK, I won’t
He used to be a Cowpies fan lol still a beast tho gonna compliment Jenkins so well!
Eagles get to start camp early with a new coach too? So these guys will get more time than usual to be around each other….
Another solid piece to the Oline and I will have more confidence in the offense…
Im thinking another OL will be drafted in the top 3 rounds, and then draft a second OL in rounds 5-7…
The funniest thing about FA is that media and fans still overreact to face value of contracts.
Take Chase Daniel. Great chance most of the money is some type of funny money and he wont sniff more than half of it unless he is actually good.
Yeah pretty ridiculuos that they haven’t figured it out yet, when really The first two, maybe three years of a HOWIE contract is All that matters
i wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of his money is based on performance (games started, TDs, playoff wins, etc) that he would only get if he wins the starting job in the offseason or bradford gets hurt.
First pick is updated!
Round 1 Pick 8: Jared Goff, QB, California (A+)
Round 3 Pick 14: Landon Turner, OG, North Carolina (A)
Round 3 Pick 16: Kenneth Dixon, RB, Louisiana Tech (A+)
Round 4 Pick 2: Joe Haeg, OT, North Dakota State (B-)
Round 5 Pick 14: Rashard Robinson, CB, LSU (A)
Round 5 Pick 23: Ronald Blair, DE, Appalachian State (A)
Round 6 Pick 13: Matt Ioannidis, DT, Temple (B+)
Round 7 Pick 12: David Morgan II, TE, Texas-San Antonio (B-)
Round 7 Pick 30: Tajae Sharpe, WR, Massachusetts (A+)
Think Blair goes before that and give me Jakeem Grant instead of Sharpe.
Miles Jack or Jalen Ramsey?
Ramsey. Both these guys prolly go top 5 tho. So more like, Stanley, Zeke, or VH3?
DONT DRAFT A RUNNING BACK IN THE FIRST ROUND, LET ALONE IN THE FREAKING TOP 10!
Ramsey easily, but Jack is a spectacular consolation prize if he ends up lasting to #8
..
Personally, if Ramsey gets passed The Jags at #5, I’ll be really pissed if we don’t move up to #6 and pounce on Ramsey…
.
ROWE
ramsey
mcKelvin
JaCorey
ROCKIN Rod McLeod
Malcolm Jenkins
..
Those are some really nice pieces to an eventually quality secondary
..
But getting Jack would also be HUGE… It allows us to see who looks better bêtween Kenricks and Bradham and eventually trade the worse of the two
..
Of course adding a blue Chip Tackle like Stanley to go on with our Road Grading Guard FA signing, would also be great infusion of much needed talented youth for our OL
..
Can’t believe we are going to get one of the top 8 players in this draft… What a great start to FA

Good stuff.
He seems to move very well for a man his size.
Not exactly built like most 345lbers.
https://twitter.com/Astonia67/status/707678687701901313
I am guessing those other guys aren’t as small as he makes them look.
The BYU kid is Matt Reynolds (Dallas’s brother) and was briefly on the Eagles roster.
No he really isn’t. When i heard 345lbs, I was expecting Vince Wilfork, not the Mountain.
Thanks for all these clips. I never heard of him before the start of free agency. Hopefully he is the upgrade we need to make are line great again.
Now I just want him on the left side…
So, now that the euphoria of what was accomplished yesterday is starting to fade a bit, are we going to talk about the fact that Boldyn is still a free agent yet I am not watching live helicopter footage of Eagles staff surrounding and storming his house with contracts and blank checks?
I support the idea of throwing money at Boldin. He’s old though, so maybe we only throw money at him for a year?
surprised no mention at all about KC and the illegal steal of Maclin….
I agree with Tyler’s and Greg’s tweets yesterday that those picks should go to us. If it is penalty for an ill-gotten gain, we should receive the penalty as compensation for our unfair loss.
Agreed, it’s not the league that was harmed primarily, it was us, yet the league effectively gets the compensation.

Good.. Hoping more of KC’s Talent gets poached after how they stole Maclin..
On one hand, annoying to see national media raving about how after yesterday the Giants put themselves on top of the NFC east with how much they improved their team, making them an instant favorite to win our division, but on the other hand it is nice to have made a lot of moves that improve our team while flying under the radar and not being talked about as the FreeAgency champions again
Giants contracts yesterday were bad, Reese is desperately trying to save his job…a shame
Certainly had to pay a lot for Those improvements, but I’d much rather face the Giants with a bunch of Cap space in their back pocket, than to have to face a aGiants team with a pretty nice DL in Vernon, Damian Harrison, Hankins and JPP. Janoris Jenkins is a clear upgrade to princess amakamura..
..
if you don’t draft well, what are you gonna do? Waive the white flag and surrender because you failed in the Draft? If you don’t hit on your picks you are forced to get your talent in the Open Market, and 90% of the players signed the first few days are overpaid.. That’s the nature of the open market… Sure we can call them bad contracts, I also call it the Giants having to do what it takes to improve that putrid roster.. This is a clear illustration of just how crucial the draft is and how extremely valuable draft picks are in today’s NFL
….
Id be much happier seeing them strike out in free agency and not be able to add Talent. Their cap might not be great now, but it’s a much more talented team than it was two days ago
Geagle it doesn’t work like that, very few teams just sit on cap space, cap space is meant to eventually be spent, so I’d rather they pay elite money to decent talent than make tons of smart signing
Thumbs up
Hmm? Thumbs up for what? My intelligence, good looks, charming personality or humility?
What Core ST players did we lose, that we neded to add Ron Brooks to our ST unit? I guess Ajiiritutu?
..
Giving more quality ST talent to coach Fipp is never a bad idea..
..
This team also needs an infusion of top end speed, Brooks brings the speed in spades but we still need to add some speed at WR, and really fast corner would be a welcome addition as well
..
Loving the athleticiam we have at LB with Bradham, Hicka and Kendricks
..
Assuming the Eagles will add a quality interior pass rushing DT in the draft to play next to beau allen on the second unit
I hope the Giants have as much success with their massive free agent contracts as we’ve had with ours.
ouch
We haven’t signed anyone yet this morning…what the hell?
So, this offseason we have added two McLeods (QB and S) and two Brooks (G and CB). I think this is Howie’s stamp for the year.
If we are able to bring in Andre Holmes, look for another signing to follow quickly – Lester, Sherlock, or possibly John.
we have 2 McLeods?
And a LeodMc.
McLeod Bethel-Thompson and Rodney McLeod.
I know, I too thought there could be only one.
McLeod McLeod. a real man’s name.
Bet he (Bethel-Thompson) hopes someone in payroll messes up that first paycheck…lol
Conor and Duncan
What, no love for Mycroft?
I think he would get pushed around by the camp body kickers.
any rumors for today? any visits scheduled? (think I’m starting to twitch after yesterdays slaughter of news – need my fix)

ugh he’s a troll. stop responding to him so he goes away.
It really is a head scratcher why Kelly couldn’t work with Howie. Clearly he makes good on his promise that he finds players the coaches want.
No matter what their origin may be, trolls enjoy raining on parades,
maliciously pouncing on innocent people, and acting like a verbal

all the answers.” Then sign off and leave the discussion with “You sad

I really hope this stops folks from downing Jeff Lurie anymore. The guy swung big with Kelly and missed–but he tried to be daring to win. He then stopped the bleeding and further damage by cutting ties with Kelly. He has ditched the unproductive malcontents and at considerable cost to his pocket to help the Eagles improve quicker. He has proven time and time again that he just wants to win and doesn’t value his profits over winning. He doesn’t meddle with player personnel or coaching. He hires the folks that he thinks are good and lets them work, which is the hallmark of a good leader. I really hope Eagles Nation can realize that we have a very good owner that wants to bring us a Championship.
Lurie is definitely a good owner
Lurie is the perfect owner. He got us a new stadium that is awesome. He hires people to run the team and then steps out of the way. He gave Andy Reid an extra year to get things right, which he deserved. And he made quick decisive moves to cut ties with Ray Rhodes and Chip Kelly. Everything that it is his job to take care of is done at the highest level, and he doesn’t overstep his bounds.
There is only one area where he has completely failed the fans in my opinion: the price of food at the stadium. People pay a lot of money for tickets and parking only to get raked over the coals if they want to get something to eat. He should step in and correct that situation.
I paid $19.50 for two stinkin’ drafts at the Flyers game last week. That’s a problem all over. Drafts at a Ravens game were $8.50 last fall. Sorry I have no food point of reference, but we generally tailgate and don’t buy food at the stadium.
I believe those prices are vendor driven. They sign the contract for the leased space and do their thing. I would be surprised to find that the club drives the prices-or has any influence- on the food and beverage prices.
Could/should the owner’s have something drafted into the lease about price gouging? Maybe, especially because outside food and drink are not permitted. Just not sure. It kind of takes the free market dynamics out of it.
the owner would just get less rent from the vendor. So ultimately I think yes you can blame the owner. It’s not enough to make a billion.
Point taken. In the end, we all are paying for the Byron Maxwell and Demarco Murray dead money. A good owner realizes the amount of money we fans pay and strives to put a good product out there. If you ask me if I had to pay 8.50 for a draft and watch a team that eats crap contracts in full efforts to compete, I guess I would. I am not saying I agree with the prices, I just agree in their right to do what they want.
In the end, I blame the damn spoons and forks. They made me fat.
Yeah I generally don’t buy food either but sometimes I need to get something in my stomach after a 1st quarter puke.
Perfect? I wouldn’t say that given on what has transpired the last 2 years but generally to this credit he hires people, gets out of the way on day-to-day issues, and hasn’t been so reluctant to spend that it inhibits the product on the field.
conspiracy theory: given what howie has done in the last week, how much effort was actually made to get compensation for djax?
no conspiracy at all. I think it’s obvious that Howie would have never cut Jackson like that without getting compensation. That was all Chip. And, the answer is none. No effort was made. Chip has no patience. When no one immediately offered anything he just cut him and moved on.
Or Mathis.
It does raise serious questions about how much due diligence Kelly did on trades and FA acquisitions.
yea same thing…no patience.
but wasn’t howie supposedly trying to shop jackson at the owners meeting, etc. before chip cutting him — maybe i’m misremembering
Lurie in an April 2014 interview — and note the last sentence in particular:
__________
“It became clear at the end of the year [Kelly] wanted to certainly go at the wide receiver position differently.
“Once that decision was made it was a matter of whether we were going to be able to make any kind of trade.
“And when it was obvious there were going to be no trade offers, the fair thing to the player was to release him.
“And in today’s NFL, it’s not surprising that would happen with double-digit contracts.
“You don’t see players getting traded these days, you see them getting released.”
http://philadelphia.cbslocal.com/2014/04/28/lurie-and-roseman-explain-desean-jacksons-release/
Meh…even with Lurie’s direct quote, I still don’t completely buy it. Because, I think with Howie in charge, they wouldn’t have cut him. They’d have held onto that asset until a WR got hurt and they were able to move him. Or they’d let him continue to play for the Eagles. But they never would have cut him without getting anything in return. That was all Chip. I think Lurie’s quote tries to make it seem like it wasn’t such a bad move but it’s total BS. “You don’t see players getting traded these days, you see them getting released.” Really? Is that why we released Kiko, Maxwell and Murray?
Sure…Howie got a chance to gage some interest, it doesn’t sound like they were blown away with offers at that time…but then suddenly and without warning they cut DeSean for nothing. I’m sure if Howie was in charge they’d have kept working the phones until they had gotten something or they would have kept him.
Kinda hard to shop Jackson when Chip is running around flapping his arms like a fairy saying he’s imitating DeSean.
If Howie can get something for a 29 year old RB that looked shot last year and was coming off of a horrible year, you don’t think he could have gotten something for a 26-27 year old WR in the prime of his career coming off of his best season and someone who has consistently been the leagues best deep threat? No f’in way. Howie gets something in that move.
To be fair, do we know anyone would have given up picks to pay Desean 10M when no one gave him 10M when he was available for free
His cap it to the team taking on his contract if traded that year would have been $6.25M
Redskins contract has cap hits of $9.25M last year and this year.
so …. in conclusion … erroneous on all counts
DeSean wanted to renegotiate for a deal with more long term security anyway. If Howie could move DeMarco Murray coming off a horrible season, he could have moved DeSean Jackson coming off an incredible season.
Hargreaves only ran a 4.5. CB is the one position that I really just don’t like taking someone high without really good top end speed. You can have the greatest technique in the world, but if a WR runs a 4.35 or a 4.4 and you run a 4.5, they will run right past you. If I’m taking a CB in the top ten, he’s gotta have top end speed, period.
I’m not a fan of Hargreaves. I’d take Elliot before him.
If you give them a free release. I think a lot of timed speed has to do with starting in a 3 point stance and technique which isnt used off the snap.
Asante Samuel ran a 4.49 and his long speed was never a problem.
there’s always exceptions. You don’t throw away top ten picks based on exceptions
There’s a great article I read recently that tracks success of CBs by 40 time. The most successful CBs, far an away all had great speed (sub 4.4). Then there’s another blip of success of CBs that were successful and had more than 4.55 speed that were drafted lower because of that like Asante but ended up being successful. But, speed is huge for CBs
There is so many fast CB drafted high that cant cover shit. CB is more about hips and IQ than straight line speed
you need both
If speed is not a problem on tape, I wouldnt put much stock into.
40 is so overrated even for DBs
Djax only ran a 4.35..yet he blew past every DB possible. 40 times should make you go back and look at play speed.
yep. From what I have seen, Hargreaves is not slow. He looks faster than Alexander who ran 4.44
Don’t worry. He’ll run a magical 4.4 at his pro day like every other hopeful NFL prospect.
Couldn’t it technically be said that the Wasteam was involved with one big FA with the monster contract to Cousins? (essentially blowing their load on one guy).
there literally has got to be a less gross way of saying that
Yeah, lots of folks say “don’t spend it all in one place.” Which is exactly what happened here.

I thought he was worth a 5th round pick.
Man, Poptart really thinks the #Browns are interested. Are they bidding against themselves in this one?
I wonder if they’d then trade down to 8. We get choice of Wentz or Goff at 2 but we’d probably have to give up too much amd maybe we’d just need to jump ahead of Niners for QB. The Ramsey and Jack lovers will go crazy but we have safeties and LBs. The other thing is good chance a QB drops to 8 but maybe you go get your QB.
re: Jack. Anyone concerned about the knee? Guess we’ll find out at UCLA Pro Day…15th?
If SF traded Kaepernick to the Browns, shouldn’t SF ask for a swap of 1st Rd picks?
I assume one of those #browns was supposed to be #broncos?
Thank you NFL.com for this laugh…
“Last season with the Eagles, the running back lacked speed, quickness and lateral agility. At certain times it looked like Murray was attempting to carry a piano in quicksand.”
At times I thought I was watching a toddler, who was handed a ball and then promptly looks down and around forgetting what’s going on. I’m just glad he didn’t give the ball a light toss to the other team and totter off in the other direction.
His eyes did seem really low..
I thought Bjeorn Werner was miscast as a 3-4 OLB, wouldn’t mind the Eagles signing him to a 1 year deal as a DE if the price is right
Imagine another GermanEagle?! 😉
You may have more pass rush ability than Bjoern
Grigson bust pick. We have our own bust. He did play with Bradham at FSU. You’d then trade Barwin I would think and get him at 2 million or so. There’s not one thing special about Werner.

you really want CD at the helm? you cant..
he really is a cant isn’t he
and when Bradford starts game 1?
Bet me you will never post on here again if bradford is traded
I be you will never post on here again if Bradford is traded
You are dumber than fuck. Yes I take that bet!

Yeah don’t let everyone hate on you just cause you always right bro. Time and time again you have shown your savvy
On dentist chair. Wisdom tooth needs out.
good luck
Thanks. Let’s hope for nice Eagles news today.
I have a fear of German dentists if that makes you feel better.
He was American. 😉
Whew that was close. It scared me for a minute.
But still, is it safe?
Good luck. The dentist said I have to take out all 4 of my wisdom teeth. I’m too scared to do it. Also too lazy of finding an “in-network” dentist, paying $800 out of pocket, and taking off from work.
There it is!!!
Don’t they knock you out for that?
Is that you or is it a screen grab from ‘Little Shop of Horrors”?
Me, myself, and mine tooth!
Raiders’ receiver Rod Streater(went to Temple) may be visiting Philly. McManus mentioned we may be interested in him as well as Holmes. Chiefs’ reporter Terez Paylor said Chiefs were interested in Streater but he has visits set up with East Coast teams. A fan asked if the Eagles were one of them and he said he thought so.
Always thought of him as more of a slot guy. Holmes seems like the better fit. Granted, can’t say I have watched a ton of Raiders games the past few years.
Streater is outside wr. He may do both. He’s also a big WR.Plus went to Temple. Local kid.
T for Temple U
Sounds like the Eags will not receive any compensation for the Maclin Chiefs tampering. Brutal decision.
What was brutal was that Kelly let Maclin reach free agency.
Should Reid have called during the couple of days before free agency? No.
Did it make a difference, though, given that KC offered more money?
Hindsight of course being 20/20 Kelly should not have let him go. But the precedent has been set for teams getting compensation for similar tampering cases.
meh, he was too expensive. I am glad they didn’t pay what KC paid for him.
self tacklin’ Maclin
Also Maclin threw some shade towards Kelly after Kelly was fired.
Can we universally agree never to use the moronic expression “throw some shade” ever again? It’s like nails on a chalkboard.
If there is enough ugliness behind this to take picks from the Chiefs for an activity that goes on regularly, is it fair to acknowledge the possibility that Maclin reached free agency BECAUSE of the tampering? That he otherwise would not have learned of what the Chiefs were offering?
ATG . . .
Interesting theory.
Maclin’s agent would have learned about the Chief’s offer during the 2-day “anti-tampering” period.
During those couple of days, Maclin’s agent — Tom Condon — would have taken that number back to Kelly.
Also, contract numbers are kicked around at the Senior Bowl for possible FAs. (That’s where Condon found out no market existed for Bradford, I’d wager.)
All that aside . . . I’d be surprised if coaches aren’t talking to players they know during the season.
It’s a pretty messy business, all in all.
I’m in a wait and see mode. Really like the moves Roseman has made so far, but we should all know by now that signing players to these deals is the easy part. Figuring out how to deploy, develop and utilize them is far harder.
We were all gaga over the signings of Maxwell and Murray last year, but the Eagles failed hard in developing and utilizing them.
Scheme fit matters and hopefully Roseman & Co. made that one of their primary focuses with these signings.
We’ve also opened up some more holes on the roster with these moves so RB, CB and LB in particular now are bigger issues than before. We have more time in FA and the draft to address those and I’ll need to see how that is done before I get the pom-poms out.
We’ve been burned so often before winning in March and then losing from Sept-Jan. We’ve done a lot of things that seem really good and should help us, but the proof will be in the pudding especially with a new coaching staff.
All of those players were supposed to be perfect scheme fits. Pretty sure everyone pretty universally admitted we over paid for Maxwell, but it was a necessary evil. Even in hindsight, I don’t see how you don’t get Maxwell and Demarco (Once lesean was traded).
Yes they failed. Don’t think anyone forecasted how horrible Alonso and Demarco would be. Maxwell played pretty much how I expected, save the horrible tackling.
Powell back to the Jets. CJ Anderson visiting Miami
Jets also signed Khiry Robinson. Forte, Powell, and Robinson is a nice trio.
And no QB?
Antonio Cromartie to the Cowboys
so probably no carroll?
source?
My bad. I overreacted. He tweeted” I’m ready to come to the Cowboys”
Damnit. I really wish you were right. Cromartie is terrible now and it would of been great to see him play in Allas.
He looked pretty solid in the few games I watched him.
Living in central jersey I get every Jets and Giants game so I seen him play a lot and he was not good at all. Honestly when he got hurt was when the secondary played better.
I’ll defer then. I wouldn’t want him even if he is good as I envision (which is still a shell of his former self). Just the injuries he has been having show the age on him. He is an old old man… even at 31.
Morris Claiborne is a FA, was a pretty high pick but the Cowboys were not able to develop/utilize him effectively. Is he a bust or does he have talent we might be able to unlock? If we wait out the market and can get him cheap, is it worth a shot? We certainly could use the CB help.
No thanks. Clairborne was bust before he started to continually get injured. I wouldn’t even offer him the vet minimum. Overdrafted bust that can never stay healthy. Sounds like a Chip Kelly guy.
A year ago, Kelly’s praises were being sung for exploiting “market inefficiencies” on injured players . . .
’cause — as fans were crowing last year — conventional NFL GMs just weren’t as smart as him.
True. But it seems like that’s a strategy that the Eagles have followed for a while. I’m too lazy to do the research right now, but over the years they’ve put way too much stock in injured players; both FAs and guys already on the roster. ‘Sports science’ just made it worse. I’m sure everyone does that to some extent I guess. I’m not a fan of that strategy.
I dunno. I recall everyone on this board being pretty universally upset with every move other than the Demarco signing.
Lot’s of fans happy with getting Pegged-Leg Kiko.
I will admit to having been happy getting Kiko (and wanted him here this year). Just not for what it cost.
Though it does appear Lesean could be in free fall over-the-hill (cliff when it comes to running backs).
Tumtum:
Just before opening day 2015, you warned the Eagles looked like an 8-8 team.
So whatever you think, I won’t disagree when it comes to the Eagles.
they were 7-9 and looked like a 4-12 team
Haha I am sure I will disappoint you soon!
cautiously optimistic, yes. clear that it might take more than one season to see what he is, yes. happy? not me
Thanks for the insight, I know little about Claiborne, but I remembered the consensus was pretty positive when the Cowboys drafted him.
He was very hyped up coming out of college. He stepped into Patrick Peterson’s role the year after he left and played very well. He was never on the level of Peterson but the hype followed due to him playing well on a stacked defense at LSU. Routinely got roasted when he came to the league though, then the injuries hit him hard.

interesting
Would be some crazy turnaround if we suddenly trade him.
It would be disappointing for the most part. If we get 32, maybe I could live with it. Not so sure it would be much of a surprise though, after the Chase Daniel contract.
Not on his Twitter page, and looks like a doctored photo…
got me.
I was just going to ask why he doesn’t have the stupid heart instead of the star for favorite.
BOOM
I guess it is too much to hope that the local troll notices that no one went running for high ledges or cursing the name of Howie Roseman and concludes that people are more curious to learn and digest what happened than they are about pretending they have some stake in predicting or controlling what happens next?
Yeah, I guess.
I’ve seen Elliot mocked to the Eagles at 8, and nothing could disappoint me more. I know he’s great, but taking RB so high strikes me as a waste.
The problem might be that he is the best player at this point.
Ramsey, Tunsil, Bosa, Wentz, Goff, Buck, Buckner are good chance to be the 7 first players.
You then have Zeke, Hargreaves/Alexander, Mack, Stanley in the next tier and I say Zeke and healthy Mack is above the rest and in the same tier as the first 7 players
If Stanley is there at 8 then they have to grab him.
I have seen people who think his agility is not good enough to be a tackle.
I have not heard that. I am just going off what I have seen out of him and how he would fit with the Eagles. He looks every bit the part of a LT and here he would be drafted to be RT. Definitely think he is worth it at 8 if he is available. I honestly do see him getting past the Ravens.
Really? His footwork is impressive to say the least.
I just looked up his combine. His 20 yard shuttle and 3 cone is just awful.
Put the combine aside and watch actual game tape of him. Your perception will change.
Watching his stance, its clear he is a little stiff in either knees or hips as he is not a natural waist bender like Tunsil.
Agreed that he isn’t on the level of the best o-lineman in the draft but there is a reason he is the 2nd best o-lineman. He is a stud and should b vey solid in the NFL.
We have our left tackle. And you need to keep them and their agents happy. Top 10 guys want LT money. Its not like Lane’s deal is close to being up.
Jason Peters might only be here for one more year. Yes I know Lane Johnson is the LT of the future but the Eagles can do the same thing with Stanley as they did with Lane in drafting him high to play RT and could always move him to LT. In that scenario you would have your 2 bookend tackles for the foreseeable future which is ideal.
Its a different situation than Peters.Jason’s getting old they didn’t draft Peters replacement when he was 26. That’s about his age when we got Peters. I don’t particularly like getting two LTs with our only top 10 picks either. You’re planning LT 5-10 years from now.
So your really in the belief that a RB at 8 is the better option then a stud o-lineman? That logic is beyond flawed. Outside of QB you must build through the trenches. Taking a RB that high is a luxury.
Did he give up ANY preasure on the qb in the games you watched?
I put on the clemson tape first, and he looked bad when his 1v1 man didnt mush rush.
Having a mobile QB reduces how often a tackle has to take on a defender directly 1v1 because they often mush rush
That didnt answer the question. I dont really want him at 8 but he will be a good LT.
If we the pass rusher isnt trying to get to the QB, but just contain him, the tackles wont give up as many preassures.
Clemson wasn’t his best game. Temple may be a better example. Regardless, he’s a good prospect and will get taken high. I don’t think he is worth 8 for us, however.
Stanley would probably be there at 13
That wont happen. 2nd best LT in the draft falling past o-lineman needy teams, I can see it happening.
Why do we have to get him? We already took a left tackle in top 10. Right tackle or guard in top 8 isn’t great value. I think it’s probably going to be a move for a QB but Elliott is worthy of top 10 pick.
I agree that a lot of signs point to a move to move up for a QB but at the same time in no way would I take a RB over a stud o-lineman. You build through the trenches first. Also there are too many RBs to be had in the later rounds that are studs as well.
Devontae Booker, Kenneth Dixon, and Alex Collins are just to name a few good RBs to be had later.
They aren’t studs like Zeke. I like Dixon. Isn’t Booker coming off injury or am I wrong?
Collins 40 time makes me a tad nervous but I really had an eye on him. But Dixon and Collins could be gone.
There’s other guys that might be stopgaps like Drake, Perkins. But again none of them are Elliott but I recognize you can make that argument for everyone.
TD . . .
If the Eagles can’t get (or don’t want) a QB —
Then it’s an OT or CB.
Seems to fit with the Roseman / Pederson throwback-to-Reid era philosophy for team building.
I agree AC. I just don’t see a corner, not named Ramsey, worthy of a top 10 pick in this draft. VH3 is a good player but I wouldn’t be happy if they took him at 8. A trade back then yes but even then you can trade back far enough to get a Mackensie Alexander or someone like that later.
Yes on the CB theory.
Why would you trade to 8 for a CB or RT? CBs will be there at 13.We have a top 10 LT.
New conventional NFL wisdom is you need 2 starting OTs — and Peters is a short-timer.
Eagles are light at impact CB (since prime Asante 6-7 years ago).
I assume the Eagles see 5-6 players as a cut above in Rd 1 and want to get one.
Don’t think it’s a DL or RB the team wants.
Do you mean they need 2 LT level OTs? I don’t know what you’re exactly saying AC.
Eagles had Tra who was 12th or 14th pick and Runyan who they signed to big contract at time.
It doesn’t equate to drafting two LT s in top 10. I would prefer trading down and getting a good RT prospect who would fit your 2 starting OTs but I’m not sure if you want that.
RC5000–
Sorry I rushed through my response. (Duh, every team needs 2 starting OTs!!!)
What I meant was, new conventional seems to be that having *both* the RT and LT nearly equally proficient at pass blocking is the desired course.
(Guys like Von Miller and Justin Houston rush from the offense’s right now.)
But I see what you’re saying about the *cost* of acquisition. Raises good questions.
man i hope goff and bosa go before we pick
I feel bad for the sucker who takes Buckner. Hopefully it’s Chip Kelly.
Yeah it does come down to “the board”. No question, Zeke is a great talent, much more of a sure thing than Wentz, imo. Don’t know who you mean by “Buck”, and if Myles Jack is available @ 8, along with Zeke, my board says Jack.
Around here, he’s called ZEKE.
So the hard to hear can be sure who’s being discussed.
Surprising the radio talk sports heads have been almost universally against from what I’ve heard in the last day.
It’s slow but the ubiquitous information available online has upped the level of general discourse a bit even if it remains low-brow a lot too.
the BPA approach requires discipline. if he’s the best player at 8 you either take him or trade down imo. that’s IF he’s the bpa and i’m not smart enough to make that determination
Not so much the BPA, more of a case of grouping playërs by Tiers… That Top Tier of Blue Chip prospects will probably be made up of 8-11 players, at #8 we will end up seeing one or two players left from that Top Tier and we can choose the player left that plays a more valuable position or fills a bigger need, but if there is only 1 top tier player left, we take the blue chip prospect and don’t have the luxury of being picky about Position… .. Now it’s also very possible that we have a High Grade on Zeke, but don’t have him grouped in with that top Tier and instead view him as one of the top guys of that 2nd tier of first round prospects, in which case he won’t be drafted with the 8th pick..
..
But at #8, it’s a mistake for people to discuss positions and specific players to Target, because we will have minimal options, whatever top tier player or two is available when we pick is who we will choose from, and if a RB happens to be the last of the Blue Chip prospects, prepare to see the Eagles draft a RB
..
The Eagles have a lot of players but lack true star power, and THATS where it becomes really important that we remain Discaplined like you said, and Take whatever blue chip prospects so available giving us the best chance of getting more star talemt that we desperately lack….. Hate to break it to people, but we won’t be in position to be picky about finding star talent at a certain position we deem to be a major need of a more valuable position.. Have to be Discaplined about it and take whatever blue chipper is left for us at #8 and make the most out of this great opportunity to be picking so high.. The worst thing we can do is to fuck up our chance at star power trying to target positions and scoffing at star power at certain positipns… Fortunately Roseman knows better than to be a positipn snob with the #8th pick…
..
You can only be a position snob if it’s your turn to pick and there are a bunch of players available with the same grade at the top of your board, in that Case, we can be more picky about NEED and positional Value … At #8, there is NO CHANCE Of us having that luxury so people can forget their positional bias because roseman won’t let positions fuck up this great opportunity to draft legit STAR potemtial…. At #8 Roseman won’t have many options IF ANY!
..
I like Eric Flowers. People laughed at the Giants drafting him, but I believe he will be a solid LTs for a long time, but THANKFULLY the Giants GM was stupid enough to go with NEED, to go with The more valuable position, and we lucked out at not having to face Todd Gurley twice a year for the bettet part of the decade
..
Seeing a RB Woethy of a top 10 pick won’t be a common Occurence, but when there is a special RB prospect available, overlooking a future star at ANY position is stupid, and it would really be foolish for a team like us that basically needs to add 3 New RBs over the next two offseasons
..
For people who don’t want Zeke you have to hope that the Eagles have a high grade on him, but don’t view him as one of the 8 best prospects in this draft which is a real possibility, but we won’t pass on a chance to get one of the elite prospects in this draft because of a position or Need..
.
The Last position we NEED is TE… Would you be ok watching the Eagles pass on a chance to add the next Gronk, Jimmy Graham, Tony Gonzales type of Great TE because TE isn’t an immediate need and and isn’t as highly valued of a position? What ismt a NEED today, can very Quickily becone a major need a year later, so you don’t pass on elite prospects with GAMEBREAKER potential because of immediate need or positional value… Im confidently Roseman will show this type of discapline ESPECIALLY at #8 where our options will be very limited… We don’t have NFL star power besides Cox, now that JP is getting Old.. We need that elite Talemt at any position we can get it, Roseman won’t screw up this awesome opportunity to get the 8th best player over positions.
..
Of course it’s very possible ZEKE doesmt last to us, and it’s also possible that Roeman has him at the Top of the second Tier of players, in which case we won’t be Draftimg him at #8… But if he has a Grade worthy of that 8th pick, Roseman will show that Discapline and draft him,,,
..
What’s funny is so many people scoff at drafting a RB high. And would laugh and rip the Cowboys if they take a RB at #4, but I would see nothing remotely funny about seeing ZEKE running behind that Dallas OL, protecting Romo twice a year..
..
It’s rare that there is a RB special enough to be worthy of a top 10 pick, and I have no idea if the Eagles will have that high of a grade on him, but the rare times when a special back is available, passimg on him because of simple minded Genralizations Bout need and positional value is what Dumb GMs do… To say that No RB are every worthy of a top 10 pick is just stupid. Whether or not ZEKE is a Special Back. or just a really good back is what will decide if Roseman passes on him if he is available at #8, but to say Roseman would NEVER take a RB that high is just dumb and ignorant
100% same page on this.
yeah I don’t get it, zeke would touch the ball 25 times a game maybe, that’s a lot of value! the guy is good.
he can catch better then some wr too. we need a big timer. it would help Sammy too.
Love to see him run behind the Lane/Brooks tandem on the right side..If there is a better player available, take the better player. It’s preety simple.
..
Like I said It will come down to the evaluation… We Know he is a great RB prospects, but it will come down to if we see him as a great First round RB prispect, or if we see him that SPECIAL rare RB prospect that is worthy of a top 10 pick…. If they see him as a special RB and he happens to be at the top of our board at #8, than he will be worthy of the pick..
.,
We don’t currently have any room for a TE, but if a TE was the most special player available at #8, you draft Him and make room for him…unlike TE, we have plenty of work to do buildimg our stable of RBs the next two years, to get a star at a big need like RB, is nothing to complain about..
..
People Devalue Guards, Id Love to be able to get an Elite top Tier Guard at #8, there just aren’t any in this draft class… Every Position can be used as a tremendous weapon if you have a great enough player,,, like you said, it’s crazy to scoff at adding a great player who will carry the ball 25 times, help our QB, Help our defense and have a positive effect on ball control/Time of Possession… It just comes down to if HOWIE grades him as someonein the 1-10 range, or 11-20 range..
Well he definitely is the best RB, and I am not in favor of abandoning BPA. I just think if you have a best-in-class DL or OL or CB, withstanding the depth and quality of the class, I am much more inclined to take any one of them over the gifted RB.
Yeah, if we had some derpy half baked fool who loves to dump resources into a position where an allocation of mediocre resources will be sufficient running the show.
But that guy left Philly.
If we don’t see a decent WR (No I don’t think Streater is an upgrade over anything we have), I really wouldn’t mind seeing Thurmond back at 4-5M/per. He could play nickel corner, outside corner depth, backup safety. Really hate that 7M per we gave Daniels though. Created a QB controversy, and was just way too much for a 29 year old with 1 freaking TD pass in his career (and 1 INT). Still, a day later, and after all the good moves— that is the one move I am fixated on.
Daniel’s 2016 cap number is only $3M.
Jumps to $9M in 2017, I think.
I’ve heard his cap figures are 5,8,and 8 respectively
I’m going off of the PFT report.
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2016/03/09/chase-daniel-deal-can-be-worth-up-to-36-million/
Ahh I was going off the OTC and Spotrac numbers, along with some Tweets I saw last night.
PFT reported a $6M signing bonus. Multiple local reporters and Over the Cap have said that’s incorrect. The deal included a $3M signing bonus(prorated) and a $3M roster bonus(counts entirely against this year’s cap). So the cap hits are 5, 8, and 8(before incentives) as Nick C said.
Thanks for clearing that up.
Have you seen Chase,Daniels wife? Having her in Philly is worth every penny
Yeah, he can definitely compete with Bradford in that area.
I live in Atlanta, so I am clearly not reaping these benefits.
I’m still holding out hope that at the last minute the Eagles will decide to match the best offer Nolan gets from dallas Or whoever. Id love to have him back and start the season opposite of ROWE on the outside, with Leodis in the slot and JaCorey in Dime..
..
Ultimately, Nolan, boykin, or Thurmond, bringing any back would be great..
.
If we Do bring Thurmond back, I assume he would be used as a Corner not a Safety which is perfectly fine.. ideally It will be Nolan who is a quality ST Gunner, and can play every CB position. he is also younger and I see him as a player who is still developing and growing his craft who’s best ball is still ahead of him.. So ranking them on my wish list would be
.
1) Best case scenario Nolan Carroll
2) Thurmond (more versatility than Boykin)
3) Boykin, sure miss seeing Him on special teams
…
They have to add a WR in FA, but it could easily just be a cheap depth signing who at best will compete with Huff for #3 WR snaps..
What do you guys think of grabbing Vernon Adams in the 4th or 5th round?
Any QB drafted in rounds 4 and 5 works for me.. I just don’t wanna waste an early pick on this class of chump QBs
it’s like when there’s a snowstorm and everyone buys the good bread so you end up paying for shitty bread because it’s all they have
No it’s like when people get there early and get stuck buying shitty bread, so you take your time knowing that no matter when you go, you still will end up with shitty bread
OR, you get in early, before the rush, and buy the quality ingredients then go home and bake your own bread that is considerable better than anything you can buy and costs pennies on the dollar. It is just a matter of how much you knead one.
wait who are we baking in this analogy
Wait, analogy?
oh my bad you just makin bread
And you don’t even wanna start talkin bout yeast.
who kneads an analogy?
No knead doughs for the lazy. Properly kneaded dough feels amazing.
well i just buy beer and tots, but i take your point
Brandon Allen or Brandon Doughty of we’re looking at mid/late rounder to groom
Really want to see those Bradham numbers: 12.8M this year/ 9.6M next year
*Edit: cap spaces in 16 and 17
Huh
Our cap space is currently 12.8M/ 9.6M next year
I would really like to see Nigel Bradham’s contract as that is the only transaction not included in these numbers
Just out of curiosity if Bradford is cut, do you know what that does? He isn’t playing year 2 of this contract in most likelihood.
we’d end up with $4.5M in dead money and the rest of his $22.5M cap hit would come off (so a cap savings of like $17-18M)
they guaranteed some of second year salary.
What do you guys think about signing Brandon Bridge for the #3 QB spot?
Think we will draft someone.
No
we wanted a bridge qb not bridge the qb
Talking to Chase, Howie, and Doug at 3:30; Really interested to hear what they have to say about the competition. I know “nothing” really will be said, but every word will be scrutinized.
There will be no competition. Anything said about a QB competition was just to fluff the ego of Chase during signing. ESP, Kempski, and BGN will be the only media to run with the whole competition angle as they has a great dislike for Sam.
wheres this?
nm radio. ha
Sanu to the Falcons. 5 years, $32.5 million, $14 million guaranteed.
he’s gonna put up great numbers with julio across from him
damn
This is good news, I was worried that the Giants would scoop him up
not all that unreasonable
https://twitter.com/AllbrightNFL/status/707952185909248000
As ATG pointed out earlier, the heart tells us this is real.
I don’t know, that sounds kinda deep. Probably a misquote.
I forgot about Glennon. Whatever happened to Mettenberger wanting a trade?
Cassel is the backup now? mettenberger should be on the move?
This is a big Concern of mine,,, the Last thing I want to see is the Cowboys managing to acquire Mettenberger, Glennon, FOles or AJ McCarron… Without one of these back ups, if the Cowboys DONT get a true franchise work horse RB to protect Romo like Demarco was able to do the one year they tasted some success running Murray into the Ground, they will be DOOMED next season…
..
Im going to be pissed if the Titans trade Mettenberger to Dallas… No way that the Bengals trade McCarron.. And Id like to say that NFC teams won’t give the Cowboys Foles or Glennon..
..
Ideally, they sigń Matt Moore as their savior lol, and think they can pass on ZEKE and get a RB later in the draft,,, that would put a Giamt smile on my face.. Titans better not screw this up
T-Law . . . wherever you are:
You have the best virtual booth in the bar for talking Eagles football.
Here’s a PBR to you!
so how are the 3 QB’s ranked and which do you think have no possibility of being there at 8 or some possibility but we might need to move up a spot or two to make sure we get that one.
I don’t miss Chip Kelly, but I do miss Chip Kelly press conferences.
Doug Pederson really struggles up there.

“still trying to find #3.”
buh bye sanchez.
love these new guys we’re bringing in
Lane Johnson was put in the worst position possible last year, being forced to spend game time playng next to just about every Guard on our roster over the course of a season.. Whether we think he had a good season or not, you don’t get to see the best a 3rd year tackle is capable of playing next to so many guards in one season, and even having to play on both sides at times..
..
Kind of impressive how Lane was able to develop and thrive while being drafted into a less than ideal, and at times a dysfunctional situation:
.
1) As a inexperienced Tackle with only one year of RT experiemce, he was drafted to immediately start, and line up next to the weak Link of what was an elite Line, Todd Herremans who will be remembered as a Great Eagle but who was declining in the twilight of his career when Lane was drafted, still the declining veteran and the raw rookie tackle were able to have a soIid yeàr holding down the right side of one of the leagues very best OLB in 2013..
.
2) His Sophmore season, Herremans was shot. He had rabidly declined from the previous year, and injuries all over the line caused a big decline from what was a top OL the year before..didn’t help that he had to also serve his PED suspension
.
3) 2015 the breaking point, our OL went down the toilet. gardner emerged from the pffseason battle as the starting RG and he was lost for the season immediately. After Gardner was lost to injury, with chip losing Mathis, everything spiraled out of control. lane DIDNT have the year 3 we had hoped for, but he proved to be the type of gritty Warrior this city needs protecting Bradford. This kid was a warrior in every way, playing with injuries, linning up next to every guard on the roster, even switched side with little notice or time to prepare.
..
After everything Lane has had to deal with, im so excited to see them bring a Big, Monster of a Mauler who has been durable and hopefully bring stability to that RG spot and build a chemistry with Lane that should make the right side of our Line as potent as it has been since Runyon patrolled the right side..
..
lane an athletic freak, next to a big strong Mauler should be a very exciting Tandem while Lane remains on the Right side
No obvious Mad Max gif yet for yesterday?
http://www4.pictures.zimbio.com/mp/hR5dPjNAQMfx.gif
Everyone was mad at Max yesterday. Especially that Albright guy.
If Chip kelly was still in charge lol, what would we have gotten back in the trade forMaxwell and Kiko?
.
Tell me you can’t see a team take advantage of him after how they saw him clearly operate as a novice GM last year, and get Chip to give up some type of compensation to take Demarco Murray off his hands who you know chip wouldn’t have wanted on the team this year? What’s scary is that chip has no concept or respect for “Value”, so he is capable of being stubborn and crazy enough to want to take a 13mil cap hit to cut him and get him out of his sight a year after giving him a crazy contract, when a coach with a brain would rather pay him 6mil to just stay home instead of paying double to cut him.
..
By now teams now how chip has no respect for asset value part of the GM game. They know he has no Patiemce and probabky would have tried to take advantage of that and make chip swap a 4th round pick for a teams 5th round pick to take Demarco off our hands or some type of compensation….. The Fact that Roseman could get a team to take Murray after the disgrace he put on tape last season is a win In itself, to actually get some type of positive compensation for Murray is the most we could have hoped for..
..
If Roseman can get some type of trade value for Taylor Hart, Ryan Mathews, Caleb Sturgis, and Sanchez and put together one of his better Drafts, this could go down as one of his best Offseasons of Rosemans GM career.,,. So far, things are going really well, but the Draft is really the crucial part of the Offseason. A bad draft would ruin all the good he has accomplished so far tbis offseason. This franchise will only go as far as our Drafts take us… Put together two great drafts these next two years, expect great things…. Screw up these next two drafts and we will spend two more years floating around .500
Doug Pederson gives a press conference like I would if someone randomly dragged me out of my day job and stuck me in front of a podium.
Well said.
I know SSS and all but Pederson has been underwhelming at best during his press conferences. I’d say borderline horrible.
Yeah, they’ve been pretty bad. Hopefully he’s a lot different in front of the players.
http://img.pandawhale.com/post-58615-Chevy-Chase-no-math-SNL-gif-Im-IvKX.gif
He certainly hasn’t been good at it, but he seems to be gradually improving and getting more comfortable…. Chip was much better handling press confrences but a former NFL QB and experienced NFL assistant will probably be much better at communicating with his players and thats whats really important
Ron Brooks seems like the type of guy who has great football character that Chip Kelly wouldn’t like for some reason.

Just change this to Eagles’ backup QB and it works pretty well too.
this is a good Sixers article:

thanks, i enjoyed it as well.
what would you accept to trade Bradford to the Broncos?
Elway or von miller
and a time machine
Demaryius Thomas…I’m being serious. I actually think a starting WR for a starting QB is massively in the Broncos favor.
Von miller or I’m hanging up the phone
Their 2
How about a 3rd & Bradford for their 1st? Their 1st is basically a 2nd anyway.
Edit: should have said 4th. 🙁
I’d do it
So is evan mathis just a FA?
yes who will be 35 this year.

Streater rumored to maybe visit Eagles visiting Patriots along with forgotten Clay Harbor
https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/708041972490084357
$10 Clay Harbor becomes a borderline pro-bowler if signed by the Patriots, most likely out of the league in 1-2 years if not.

Any rumors on Sanchez getting moved?
Hell be cut, no one is stupid enough to trade for him
Seems messed up they haven’t cut him yet. Why are they taking so long…
Just waiting out Chip Kelly
wait until some other team gets desperate
Whereas teams were clamoring for Maxwell or Murray?
Everyone knows we don’t want Sanchez, and that unlike Murray or Max, we will cut him if no trade happens
Everyone knows the 49ers don’t want Kaep, and there are three teams bidding for him. The team not wanting him means absolutely nothing.
There are advantages to a trade that just aren’t there if he’s a Free Agent. Contract is already set, there’s no danger that he will sign elsewhere, etc.
Yes, but the 49ers will not cut him, there’s really no value in a guy every knows we don’t want, and knows we will cut, if multiple teams are interested I guess you could be right, and I hope you are, would save us 1M to trade which may be worth more than any conditional 7th in 2018
The 49ers would absolutely cut him, they don’t want to pay 16M to a backup QB.
As far as Sanchez, there’s no real rush to cut him right now. They have plenty of cap space for the time being, so as long as that’s set, you might as well hang onto him to see how things shake out…
Fair enough, hope Sanchez thing is resolves soon, don’t wanna hang onto him and just dump him in May
Even Pederson said today that they have Bradford as the starter, Daniel as the backup, and they are looking for a #3 (I assume in the draft). Sanchez is not in his thoughts whatsoever. So… he’ll be released if Roseman doesn’t think he can trade him. Trading ensures we get 4.5 million cap relief, while cutting means we’d get 3.5 and hope to get 4.5 if he signs for more than $1 million (i.e. would have to wait for the offset language to kick in). Plus we might get a marginal asset like a 7th rounder.
Not neccessarily, obviously teams know they can trade peanuts and get Sanchez, and he has a pretty favorable one year contract teams may rather give up chump change to get him on that contract, instead of having to sign him on the open market where all it takes is one team being interested to drive up the price a bit..
..
If you can give up minimal value to ensure that you get sanchez, and get him on a contract you are comfortable with, gives us a chance of seeing Sanchez traded, especially when teams know they won’t have to give up anything close to significant because we would be happy just to get the Cap Rammifications of Trading him, compared to cutting him..
..
So yes, there is a chance we can find someone “stupid enough to take him”
I already conceded below, I hope y’all are right
https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/708049108876050433
Bye CJ
Cedric Thornton to sign with the devils, I mean Cowboys per Ian Rapaport.
He’s gonna play Hockey?
I can totally deal with Ced being gone, but why oh why did it have to be the texas scum.
https://twitter.com/RapSheet/status/708054831165005825
I so don’t care one bit about this. $4.5M is a good chunk of change for a guy who plays the run ok and offers absolutely no pass rush. Not a big loss for us or a big gain for them. Good luck to Ced.
He’s not quite the Andrew Carnegie of DLs
But Thornton’s 100% self-made, developing all the talent he was given to become one of the 100 best football players at his position in Universe.
Couldn’t agree more. He’s a great guy and someone that I’d love on my team. Also am not scared of him on the opposing team one bit.
If only he went to the Jaguars..
glad he’s getting paid
I’d be gladder in any other division. Can hope he’s a bad fit, but still gets paid.
he played hard for us and now he’ll fit poorly for the Cowboys and eat up cap room
He’s our man on the inside!
Not a 4-3 player. Dallas is foolish.
That’s why we let him go, doesn’t fit
He’ll be fine as a 1tech. Think Mike Patterson.
Just from a numbers stand point you would think the Eagles will have to come out of Free Agency with a WR. Everyone would love a difference making WR but this FA market probably won’t provide one so we may have to settle for a #4, #5 WR type who can help mentor our WR puppies and compete with Huff for playing time,
.
When you look around at WHATS left on the market, the Andre HOLMES kid is probably the guy who can contribute the most on the field… his size is always a welcome addition, but I feel like adding some top end Speed at WR is a little more important.
..
beggers can’t be choosers in this WR market, we probably have to settle for a #3, #4 type of FA WR…
..
However, Roseman is one crafty Mofo this year who has had more success than most pulling off player for player trade, so we may have some hope that he can trade someone like Sanchez, Ryan Mathews, Taylor hart,or Caleb Sturgis and get some type of WR in return. Be great if there is a team or two trying to unload a WR in a trade.
…
Shame MIKE Wallace is an idiot who never lives up to his potential, and who you don’t want in your locker room. Since we don’t have enough WR to field a team łet alone enough for training camp, so WRs will have to be added one way or another
WR market this year sucked
Basically…. ….
..
Unfortunately we can’t go into the season with only jordan, Nelson, Huff, 5 Undrafted WRs and Freddie Martino and Krause,.. We have no choice but to sign at least 1 deoth WR and draft one at some point after round 3…
.
But the success of our WRs will almost entirely fall on Greg Lewis and what he can get out of Jordan, Nelson and Huff
..
Fortunately our coach comes from a team that has Experiemce having to make due with throwing to TEs and RBs to compensate for lack of WR’s if need be…
..
Fill enough holes this year, have a good draft and maybes we can afford to draft another WR next year if huff doesn’t take that next step

Interesting.
Boy it’s painful to listen to Dougie P speak… Lot of hesitation and it seemed like a lack of being ready to meet the media; however, this part of coaching is obviously overrated. just thought I would put that out there lol
you aren’t the first to make that comment. Be interesting to see how players react to him – which is really the only thing that matters.
Yeah, all you need to say is Bellichick.
Cant even put those two in the same sentence yet.
“this part of coaching is obviously overrated”. Really wish most people would read that line and actually understand it. Too many fans are stuck on how Pederson does in press conferences. Like really who the hell cares about how a coach does in front of the media. Its all about on field success. Pederson could speak in Chinese for all I care as long as this team wins games.
How anybody speaks in public is only important if I already hate that guy.
Pederson is welcome to have any demeanor he likes.
Eli’s total lack of affect is an embarrassment to the NFL.
See how easy that was!
I find it hilarious how people on the radio like to analyze a player’s words and his character based his demeanor from these interviews. The player is just trying to be as politically correct as possible. Like Donovan’s response of “yea” when the reporter asked if the team showed their youth. That’s all I heard about on the radio for months.
But Chip was awesome at press conferences. So was Herm Edwards.
And Bill Belicheck isn’t good at press conferences. So what exactly is your point?
I think that’s the point…he was being sarcastic
Sorry for the late reply. But the point is….is its a waste of time to judge a press conference.
Well said brother, how he communicates with his players is what matters. Chip taught us that lesson the hard way
My thoughts exactly buddy. He can stutter and be nervous all he wants through his interviews but if it translates to on the field success I will listen to every word and not judge.
TD . . .
I didn’t like that Kelly lied to us (through the media).
I don’t mind withholding information. Or vague generalities.
But, as posted repeatedly last season, it bothered me that Kelly outright lied.
Lying is one thing and terrible, but being nervous and speaking the way Pederson does has no bearing on what I think of him as a coach. He seems genuine when he speaks, as do a lot of coaches but we know that doesn’t mean much, but I feel like people are over-exaggerating the way he has been in his meetings with the media.
I’m with you on Pederson.
One thing about the guy, he projects sincerity.
Agreed.
I was right there with you AC on Kelly’s disingenuity.
It really started slowly but more and more I realized that what Chip Kelly said and what Chip Kelly did didn’t add up.
Would you rather listen to lies and bs?
But . . . but . . . but . . .
Kelly didn’t owe us the truth.
The truth is for losers.
Might give away secrets about the plays on his 3×5 card.
Plus, he’s the best head coach at halftime adjustments in the NFL — so there’s that.
you can’t handle the truth
I still don’t think the fans are always entitled to the truth, but I would like if the coach at least knew what the truth was, somewhere down deep.
Lol I never implied he was lying. Obviously he isn’t going to tell us what the organization’s plans are. I just pointed out that his verbal skills are lacking. Geez, people lol.
Nick C:
His halting responses may reflect that he’s not being forthcoming.
*Not* that he’s being dishonest (Kelly-esque?).
But that he’s holding back and is being careful.
Compare how much smoother he was at the Senior Bowl. He was spontaneous. His thoughts flowed pretty clearly. Just talkin’ football.
Anyway, just a thought.
______________
By the way, you’re right about the Cap hits on the Daniel Contract.
The info I had from PFT was wrong.
yea no sense in giving away unnecessary info on what we’re planning on doing or give up leverage on players we are potentially trying to trade.
I got the same sense, being careful what he said, making it seem something is up, with Bradford. But overall he comes across as a typical head coach.

RE: That last tweet in the post
When was the last time the Eagles weren’t splashy in free agency or at least willing to drop coin? Maybe under Braman, but that was a quarter century ago and the beginning of free agency.
RE: Daniel’s contract
When was the last time the Eagles didn’t need their backup to play in a meaningful games? Not Braman again? It’s not a position to skimp on, problem is that the talent might not measure up to the salary.
“When was the last time the Eagles weren’t splashy in free agency”
2002, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2010?, 2014?
Jenkins got a big contract in 2014.
But obviously you miss the larger point. There’s no reason to find it surprising that Eagles are spending in free agency. They’ve been willing to drop big cash with regularity since signing Runyan.
3 years $16M isn’t BIG

Grrrrrrr
Just watched McKelvins press conference. Good thing is if things don’t work out for him as a player over the next few years the dude as a real chance to be a commentator or analysis on TV. I would honestly pay extra every week to hear him do the play by play.
Need another WR bad at this point.
We have had plenty of those, let’s get a WR good this time.
Well said!
lol get r done sooner than later. we’ll even give you our 7th for your 7th

Sanchize has the pedigree. I’d prefer if they took Chase D. Wonder if he feels dumb, could have been starting for a contender.
sanchez is a pedigree
What,,?
Is Malik saying that he would have accepted a much lower contract? Because if so then that’s a major embarassment to their GM.
if nothing means a billion dollars
Why the hell is he saying that, pretty disrespectful to your new team to make that statement
Yeah, that sounds like the attitude Murray had boarding a plane for Philly at DFW.
https://twitter.com/AllbrightNFL/status/708089977372999680
The guy gets a lot right but does he have to be such a douche about it?
so douchey, in every tweet.
Could there be some extra incentive to be that way, since the whole Philly/Miami fiasco?
He’s butthurt.

NFL Update
@MySportsUpdate
Source: Eagles have shown some interest in former Seahawks WR Jermaine Kearse.
Because there was talk about Chip Kelly’s dishonesty earlier and I’ve been doing a lot of new media work at school lately.
CK great example of the emperor’s new clothes. Dude acted like he had it all figured out, be fast, be aggressive, etc. The truth was more like ‘be rushed, be unprepared for opponents, be sloppy.’
Had me fooled. Lesson learned.
Have we still not need Nigel’s numbers? Is he in the witness protection program or something?
Eagles said they wanted to be in the top 10 for their top 10 targets. Would that be roughly the first 10 in a mock draft, or do you think they have 10 guys and 2 to 4 of them aren’t projected there? If that’s the case, are they targeting maybe one of their top-5 guys at #8?
http://www.rotoworld.com/player/cfb/132461/jared-goff
Jared Goff reportedly interviewed very poorly.
Howie working his magic?
It was with the Browns though. He might have “tanked” it on purpose. Or at least that’s what I would have done.
The extra millions saved by not being in Ohio.
The career saved by not being a Cleveland Brown.
Joe Thomas had a career there.
Joe Thomas wasn’t a QB.
More specifically, Joe could do his job well and it was evident regardless of the swirling incompetence around him. QBs don’t have that luxury.
As a side note, it’s players like Joe Thomas that I feel bad for. Good player who plays for a ridiculously bad franchise that seems to perpetually go nowhere.
I just want to hear Ramsey forgets how to walk, then suddenly remembers when pick 8 is on the clock.
Ced signed with Cowboys. Interesting…
I want Kap to the Browns, takes them out of QB market (probably) and makes Denver even more desperate
Von Miller, Demariyus Thomas, their 1st this year, next year, 2nd, & 4th. They can have him.
Is the 4th really necessary? Feel like they may balk with us asking for that 4 (like the dolphins)
That is our giveback after the doctors check out Bradford’s knees.
The dream. Realistically we might just get their second round pick.
I know, but if I say enough times it can be true.
Jermaine Kearse re-signed with Seattle. 3-year deal.
Used us as leverage, probably.
OT Jermon Bushrod signed with the Dolphins.
spending a lot of money down south.
Seems like nobody wants a little mouth action anymore…
Jermaine, Jermon…
Jermun is next, right?
don’t we want an impact player if we pick at 8?
meaning a qb of course, but Elliot would be a huge impact no?
I know he’s a RB but they get the ball more then any other position every game. so why not if he’s that good?
you’d take gurley, why not ZEKE?
why not zeke, why not zeke.
I Like Zeke. But I feel like taking a RB in the top 10 better be a generational talent. With all our other depth issues, I would like a premium position. When premium positions (QB, OT, CB, maybe LB, WR) are handled through the draft, you will get excellent value on those players over the 4-5 year life of their rookie contract.
I hear ya, I was just thinking that if a guy gets the ball 25 times a game and is awesome, that’s value.
To me, in my opinion, it comes down to resource allocation and opportunity cost. We have the running ability and 3rd down back in our two backs currently. I would like another added thru the draft tho. So I consider the difference between Zeke and Mathews/Sproles to be less than the difference between a top talent corner and our current CB1; less than putting a Ronnie Stanley in place of Barbre doll/Turnstile Tobin/ Gardner; less than the difference between Jack and Bradham. Obviously the QBs are in play if they fall, and we all know the importance of that position.
Again, just my opinion.
If i read you correctly. .. a huge dif btw great and good in many positions … but alot of RB’s sre athletic and thus important to have good but not as important to have ‘best’… i agree
Rbs are only as good as their OL, QBs are only as good as their OL. On the defensive side a defense is only as good as its pass rush. If there’s not a marquee pass rusher i’d go with OL.
Couldn’t agree more. Build the lines first. Our D-line is pretty good (could always be better), so I probably wouldn’t mind going with a LB or Secondary impact player though. I really like Ramsey, Jack, VHIII, Stanley, Buckner.
Your list looks exactly like mine, though I’m not sure if that’s your order. I have a wish order, but I wouldn’t be mad at either of those picks.
Haven’t really thought about an order yet. I don’t have the information that the team does.
I look at it like, either we can build a SB defense with four of them, or at the very least a solid OL with the other.
Rams O line didn’t exactly have the best rep in 14′. I have pretty much written it off before. Might be worth considering.
Yay we can literally become the Rams! Yay!
That’s why not.
Not that we’re getting any but I wasn’t aware they allow comp picks t o be traded now.
https://twitter.com/JasonLaCanfora/status/708102244609216513
Too bad another team tampered with our Pro Bowl WR last year, and we still won’t receive any compensation picks. Pure bullshit…
Eagles fans are not nearly incensed enough about this.
I thought they could not be traded until the 2017 draft. That was the initial report anyways.
Thanks I guess we will see if it’s correct. He’s been wrong before.
Vernon Hargreaves III has fans and he’s a good prospect but he’s not super fast or tall. I don’t see Patrick Peterson level. Is he as good as Joe Haden?
I’m a little lukewarm on him at 8 if you can trade back for someone just as good. I need to go back again and look closer at Mackensie Alexander, Kendall Fuller, Eli Apple.
