Five Guys

Bigger. Nastier. Maybe even younger.

The Eagles OL will be different in 2016. Brandon Brooks will take over at RG. He’s 26 years old and is an imposing 6-5, 343.

The LG spot is wide open. Right now the battle is between incumbent Allen Barbre, free agent Stefen Wisniewski, second year player Malcolm Bunche and rookie Isaac Seumalo.

You would think the veterans would have a significant advantage. That’s not really the case. Doug Pederson was the offensive coordinator in KC for three years. They started a rookie OL each of those years. One was an OT, one an OG and last year they had a rookie C. When Pederson was in Philly, the Eagles started 6th rounder Jason Kelce at C as a rookie.

The best players got on the field. The coaches weren’t looking for the five best resumes. They wanted the five best players.

Barbre wasn’t really challenged in 2015 and I think that reflected in his play. He had some very good moments, but was entirely too erratic and didn’t have a good season. Wisniewski is here to provide veteran competition for him, as well as possible depth at C.

The most interesting thing to me is the young guys in the mix at LG.

Bunche is 6-6, 320. He played OG and OT in college. You can watch him at RT in this video and see that he is a big, strong, physical blocker. His pass protection needed a lot of work. I’m sure that’s a big part of why he was undrafted a year ago and then moved to OG.

The Eagles have more experienced players in Matt Tobin, Dennis Kelly and Andrew Gardner. But remember what Pederson has talked about this year. He wants physical, nasty blockers. Bunche has that kind of size, strength and temperament.

The coaches talked last summer about Bunche’s ability to move his man off the ball. The Eagles have lacked that kind of physicality and power up front in recent years.

The more I watch of Seumalo, the more his physicality stands out. Watch him play RG against Stanford.

That wasn’t Seumalo’s normal position so he’s awkward on some plays. but you can see his natural ability and his strength.

The Eagles are having a true competition at LG this spring/summer. No one will be given a job. I’m sure the Eagles would love for Seumalo to win the job. I’m curious to see if Bunche can take the next step. He was exposed to the NFL last year. Now is the time to show whether he belongs or not.

*****

Les Bowen wrote a good piece on the OL. He got quotes from several guys, including Bunche.

“I know I’m not going to mess with JP (left tackle Jason Peters) and (center Jason) Kelce. They brought in Brandon (Brooks to start at right guard),” Bunche said. “I see left guard – I’ve been there the last couple weeks and I feel comfortable there. I like it there. I’m doing a lot better since last year, just developing and growing.”

What did the coaches want him to do better, to get on the field?

“Basically, my football IQ,” Bunche said. “Another year of gaining information, as far as reading (defenses). A good guy to talk to about that is Kelce – he’s one of the smartest offensive linemen I’ve ever been around. Just stayin’ in the playbook, in the film room with ‘Stout,’ because my coach tells me all the time, I’m gifted. I’m strong, I can move my feet. That’s there, that’s God-given. But the game is a lot mental.”

There is no question that Bunche has the size and strength to play in the NFL. He’s got to show he knows who to block and can do all the little things well.

*****

Don’t read too much into this. Looks like purely a way to lower his salary. Tobin will be battling this summer. He needs to play lights out just to get in the mix to become part of the LG battle. Tobin would love to start, but he’s not even a lock to make the team.

The Eagles really wanted Tobin to win the RG spot last year. He let them down in a big way. Is this the year that the light goes on…or is that never going to happen?

Tobin’s best opportunity to earn a starting job was last year. Now there is far more talent to compete with. Besides the obvious I think it is a somewhat strong possibility that he may not make the team this year, and after this season he will be gone. He simply isn’t Pederson’s type of OG.

To a lesser extent I think Kelce could be gone next year if he has an average to sub par year. Another example of a player that isn’t the ideal style for Pederson.

He reminds me of a type of G that Howard Mudd would like.

  9. 9 Media Mike said at 4:56 AM on May 17th, 2016:

Kelce does some things really well, but if he’s going to continue to get blown off of the football, snap like crap, and continue his steep decline in play……….he won’t be here due to that salary.

The risk is you can’t just shake a tree and have a functional center fall out of it.

  10. 10 eagleyankfan said at 8:13 AM on May 17th, 2016:

Yeah – I don’t know what the issue was last year – but he didn’t play at the level we’re use to seeing him play…

  11. 11 A Roy said at 9:33 AM on May 17th, 2016:

I’d like to think his poor snapping and poor play was caused by thinking to how he was going to have to cover for the mistake by one of the Guards on either side of him. I expect him to rebound once there’s a little talent and stability next to him.

  12. 12 Gian GEAGLE said at 9:12 AM on May 17th, 2016:

Don’t Think he is good enough regardless of what type of OL we are looking for. im hoping our OL roster looks something like:
    1) Peters
    2) Lane
    3) Kelce
    4) Brooks
    5) Seumalo
    6) Wisnewski
    7) bunche
    8) Vaitai
    9) Gardner or Dennis Kelly
    10) Darrell Greene (UDFA)
    ..
Ideally Roseman can trade Barbe, Tobin and Taylor Hart for playërs that aren’t going to make another teams roster… Maybe swap them for a teams #6 or #7 Linebacker, maybe a teams #5 Safety, #5 DT….. Obviously we shouldnt expect to get anything significant for those 3, but hopefully we can do business with a team that’s deep at positions where we lack depth..

  13. 13 wee2424 said at 9:06 PM on May 17th, 2016:

I would like that OL minus 1 exception. I would still like Barbe on the team for depth purposes. We have all seen what can happen with injuries. You cant help injuries, but you can help your depth so that injuries have the least negative effect as possible.

Good film of Mcleod over at BGN. Guy is very instinctual and really flies. Loves to hit. I cant wait to watch him in game. Very impressive player. I think his best comparison is Earl Thomas, and that isn’t me being a homer. I just don’t think there is another safety besides Thomas that has range like him in the NFL today.

Think he will provide a BIGTIME upgrade improving our Swiss cheese defense on 3rd and long…
    ..
Schwartz will unleash the Hounds (Ramsey Bolton style), pass rush forces the QB to get rid of the ball sooner then the QB would like, and McLeod will be a force, torpedoing opponents, making the tackle short of the 1st down, bringing out the punt team..
    ..
Curious to see how many 3rd down tackles he makes short of the first down this year

Phyiscal is a good word for Seumalo. He didn’t seem strong enough vs those DL but he seemed to get in there and mix. I’ll leave the OL evaluations to guys like D3FB…this untrained eye was not impressed. I was hoping for better in that video.

  22. 22 D3FB said at 9:01 AM on May 17th, 2016:

He’s on the ground a bit too much. He’s versatile, has a good frame, and a solid set of tools. Needs some work on technique. He was more of a 4th-5th round guy for me. I think there’s a high percentage chance he becomes a starter. I just don’t know that he’s ever going to be more than an average starter. Reminds me a decent amount of Matt Slauson. I think that would be a realistic and solid return.

  23. 23 eagleyankfan said at 9:52 AM on May 17th, 2016:

    Thanks.

  24. 24 Gian GEAGLE said at 8:16 AM on May 17th, 2016:

Wonder if Wisnewski is regretting he signed with us. Kid has been a starter his entire career, took this job hoping it would provide him an opportunity to play his way into earning an extension here or elsewhere, and now he has a ton of competition he has to beat out to win the LG spot..,i would think that he has to be head and shoulders better than Seumalo, if it’s even close the edge would probably go to the rook..

Josh andrews is also in an interesting position, he was one of our only Backup C/G last year. Now they drafted his former college teammate Suemalo, but Seumalo Center and G versatility could end up costing Josh Andrews his job with the Eagles.
    ..
Gardner should beat out both Tobin and Barbre, but Vaitai could also be starting his career at Guard
    ..
OL and CB are probably the most interesting Camp Battles, Roseman did a pretty good job adding to the pool of talent at those positions, going to be interesting to see which guys seperate themselves from the pack and earn a roster spot

  25. 25 Steve Smegal said at 8:17 AM on May 17th, 2016:

If the young players look good in camp, I could see Wisnewski traded to a team that had oline injuries for a late round pick.

Is Sproles a lock to make the 53 this year? I don’t know contract situation with him but in a rebuilding year – as talented as he is – is he really needed?

  27. 27 Steve Smegal said at 8:18 AM on May 17th, 2016:

Depends on what you think the Eagles chances are this year. I don’t see them contending for the division so I would have rather traded him at the draft.

  28. 28 Gian GEAGLE said at 8:20 AM on May 17th, 2016:

Think you are Severly overestimating the teams in our division

  29. 29 Gian GEAGLE said at 8:19 AM on May 17th, 2016:

Your damn right he is needed,,, what are we going to do those 2-3 games Ryan Mathews inevitably misses due to injury? Barner and Smallwood? God no….
    ..
Rather Sacrafice Barner than Sproles.. KC playbook was great for throwing the ball to Jamaal Charles, I can’t wait to see Sproles running those plays this year
    .

  30. 30 eagleyankfan said at 8:21 AM on May 17th, 2016:

Obviously nothing based on OTA’s and camp — hoping Smallwood and BM make the team. Barner to be cut :). Don’t get me wrong – I love Spoles. He’s just getting older and by the time Wentz is ready — Sproles will be in a walker …lol

  31. 31 Gian GEAGLE said at 8:36 AM on May 17th, 2016:

If we were going to dump all the players that won’t be here when Wentz is ready to take over, our roster would look pretty different.
    .
I haven’t seen any signs of SPROLES significantly slowing down yet. I would hate to go into the season with Ryan Mathews, a 5th round rookie and an Undrafted scatback type
    ..
The division is too winnable and Id love to have smallwood spend a year learning from Sproles who is known for his work ethic… Obviously Sproles won’t be here much longer, but I think he has a year or two left before old age starts to rob him of his ability….Of course it’s also possible that he gets to camp and we find out that old age has already started to kick in, but I didn’t see signs of that last year..
    ..
The BM kid is someone Id prefer to have spend a year on the PS.
    ..
Historically we have allowed Rookie RBs to ease their way into the NFL, typically placing them in #3 RB roles, westbrook, shady, none of them carried the load as rookies… Ryan Mathews, is too big, powerful, explosive for his own good. His body can’t withstand 16 games of those violent collisions he initiates. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to see us go into games with smallwood and BM when ryan Mathews has to miss two or three games
    ..
Also, one of the most Dissapointing things about chip was the lack of Immagination he had with how he used Sproles in the passing game. Thought Sproles would be great for a chip kelly offense, yet it very dissapointing how Sproles was used, basically run inside zone, or throw to him on wheel routes and that’s pretty much it. Looking forward to seeing Sproles used in some of the ways Jamaal Charles and Westbrook were used in the passing game. We haven’t gotten our money’s worth from Sproles in the passing game, and im excited to see Pedersons offense change that. I would think that Ertz and Sproles are the two players who should be the most excited about Doug Pedersons offense.
    ..
If Sproles wasn’t going to be an eagle this year, I would think that Roseman would have treated him with the upmost respect, cutting him early in the offseason giving him every opportunity to find a good job with another team

  32. 32 eagleyankfan said at 9:51 AM on May 17th, 2016:

True. CK never used him. Pederson take on the RB’s last year seems to be spot on.

  33. 33 Gian GEAGLE said at 10:08 AM on May 17th, 2016:

Yeah he is right, chip tried to use 3 RB’s the same exact way for the most part insted of creating different packages for different RBs

  34. 34 Gian GEAGLE said at 11:36 AM on May 17th, 2016:

You might get your wish… There is some drama going on with Sproles not attending OTAs, not sure exactly why, I assume Pederson will clear this up at the 12:45 press confrence

  35. 35 Gian GEAGLE said at 8:50 AM on May 17th, 2016:

Think philly is going to fall in love with Brooks, Big, Powerful, angry Sumamabitch.
    ..
I have Brooks as easily the second best guard in free agency behind Osmele. This is a player I never expected the Texans to allow to reach the open market. OSMELE was the only guard that got paid more than Brooks. Most fans would have been thrilled with KC’s Jeff Allen, but Brooks is a level above him.
    ..
I really hope Jason Peters stays healthy, partly because I really want to watch the tandem of Lane and Brooks Mauling opponents all day in the run game. Think they will easily grow into on of the very best tandems playing on the right side of the OL league wide. Brooks should give us a boost on 3rd and short/goal line..
    ..
Hopefully we are just an OT away from having an Elite OL for life after Jason Peters

  36. 36 mark2741 said at 8:56 AM on May 17th, 2016:

I’ve seen Jason Kelce twice in the past year now in person (from ~10 yards away) – once he and his girlfriend, walking hand-in-hand in swimsuits on the beach in Sea Isle City, NJ. I was shocked at how small the guy was at the time. One of my in-laws was there as well and got a pic with Kelce – he is a backup OG for a DIV III state college and he was much bigger. This was last June. So a couple of weeks ago I’m walking through the local mall here in the Philly burbs and sure enough, there is Jason Kelce standing there (with the same girlfriend) chatting with an elderly couple. He looks like he’s put on 20 pounds of muscle, at least. Hopefully it just isn’t my eyes fooling me…

Can play SLB or MLB. Was BUF’s top reserve LB and top ST LBer in 2014 season and looked really good in training camp in 2015 and was getting looks with the starters before tearing his ACL in training camp.

I mentoned him as a possible signing when BUF didn’t tender him as a RFA.

  39. 39 Insomniac said at 1:59 PM on May 17th, 2016:

We just added another explosive pass rusher. Tommy and I talked up Powell in 2013 as a possible late round guy that could be groomed into a predator OLB when the team was running the 3-4. I wouldn’t be surprised if Schwartz reverts him back into a DE/situational pass rusher where he can do what he does best.

  40. 40 Tdoteaglefan said at 2:23 PM on May 17th, 2016:

yeah here were Tommy’s thoughts about him after watching him practice at the senior bowl that week

“Ty Powell – Small school player from Harding (Remember Tank Daniels?). Powell played DE in college and had 8.5 sacks this year. Watching him in the drills, you could see he was a talented pass rusher. At only 6-2, 245, he was shifted to OLB in Mobile. Did a solid job. Struggled in coverage, but it was more due to experience than lack of athleticism. Powell is a bit of a project, but the Eagles could look at him as someone to develop. Doesn’t have the ideal build (would need to be 6-4). No idea if he could play ILB.”

  41. 41 Gian GEAGLE said at 11:35 AM on May 17th, 2016:

What’s the problem with Sproles? We fielded trade offers for him during the draft, and he is staying on the west coast With his family TIL this gets sorted out? What? I don’t understand. Don’t see how we could afford to trade SPROLES and further weaken our RB room which isn’t ideal to begin with? I don’t understand if he is demanding a trade, or is holding out TIL he gets assurance that he won’t be traded this offseason?

  42. 42 RogerPodacter said at 11:38 AM on May 17th, 2016:

the only logic i see in trading him is that we know we won’t win anything this year, so we could offload him, and his salary. we could get a future draft pick (or a younger player?) and make some cap space in the process (more room to pay Cox).

i don’t think its worth it, but i don’t know how badly the FO is hurting for cap space this year. he more or less single handedly won us a few games in the last few years, and losing that for a 5th rd pick (or maybe even lower?!?) would be awful.

  43. 43 Gian GEAGLE said at 11:40 AM on May 17th, 2016:

Five guys are competing for one position at LG? Maybe, but I would not be surprised if the reality is that six guys are competing for two spots: LG and C.

Jason Kelce does not fit the bill if Pederson “wants physical, nasty blockers.” At least two of the five players mentioned have experience playing center (Wisniewski and Seumalo). And they also brought in an FCS center as a UDFA. Read between the lines.

    My prediction:

    Peters – Wisniewski – Seumalo – Brooks – Johnson

  65. 65 Gian GEAGLE said at 1:06 PM on May 17th, 2016:

Boy are people getting carried away with Kelce’s down year…. Pederson would probably laugh at you if you asked him if Kelce’s is going to be replaced because he isn’t a Pederson “type”

  66. 66 bsuperfi said at 1:17 PM on May 17th, 2016:

Completely agree on overreaction to Kelce. He might not be as physical and nasty as one would like, but his smarts and mobility are top notch. I’d be surprised if he doesn’t have another pro bowl or 2 left in his career (pending injury). There was systemic failure on the team last year, with a serious concentration of failure at the guard spots, and we’ve seen Kelce play at a very high level. I’d wait another year before predicting his doom.

  67. 67 Gian GEAGLE said at 1:21 PM on May 17th, 2016:

Kind of shitty to see such a classy soldier treated like shit the first time he has a down year. Fortunately we have better contingency plans at Center than we have had at Backüp center in years, so we covered our ass in case KELCE doesn’t bounce back, but I absolutely think he has a few good years left in the tank now that he doesn’t have to worry about both guards next two him getting killed.. Easier to worry about helping one of the Guards, if he knows Brooks has the other guard spot on lock. KELCE cares so much about this team, probably couldn’t have been easy not knowing which guard needs more help each play with both guards getting killed

  68. 68 Cafone said at 1:55 PM on May 17th, 2016:

Anything is possible, but Kelce gets paid like a pro bowl center so his spot is an excellent candidate for replacement by a lower priced player if he continues to play far below a pro bowl level.

“Kind of shitty to see such a classy soldier treated like shit the first time he has a down year.” — didn’t think he was as classy last year when discussing members of the OL.

Be interesting to see if he’s able to use his mobility as much in this scheme, in may ways Chip’s scheme was great for him.

  70. 70 Cafone said at 1:26 PM on May 17th, 2016:

Let’s remember that he had a down year because every team in the NFL figured out you could completely disrupt the Eagles offense by lining up in front of him and blowing up the interior of the line. Now you could call that a down year, or you could say he was exposed.

Kelce is a center that needs to play next to two strong guards to make up for his size. Maybe Pederson will accept that limitation. Or maybe the reason they drafted Seumalo before other top guard prospects was because he had center experience.

  71. 71 Gian GEAGLE said at 1:38 PM on May 17th, 2016:

Lol as opposed to other years where teams didn’t use defensive tackles to try and attack the interior of our OL? Creating pressure up the middle is what every defense hopes to accomplish

    ..
If you know anything about how Roseman operates, cox should realize what he is doing is pointless. Roseman is all about trying to lock up yoûng players early. Cox is the crowned Jewel of Rosemans career, he is the best player Roseman ever drafted. .
    .
cox should realize that Roseman might want to get the deal done this summer even more than Cox wants to get it done, because Roseman is no fool, he knows we can’t get around having to pay Cox a ton, and if Cox is worth that much now, You can bet Roseman does not want to see Cox inflate his stats in a jim washburn scheme next year, Cox value is only going to increase, it’s not getting cheaper. Roseman is aware of this, so it would seem his hard negotiation stance is uneccessary,,
    ..
Unless Cox is actually also willing to hold out during Mandatory activities which I don’t believe to be the case. He is a team Guy, who cares about playing well, and he already slipped and said something like ” why would I make a big deal about not getting a deal when I am scheduled to make 7mil next year”, which his agent probably wasn’t thrilled to hear.

But hopefully Roseman can get it done within the next two weeks. Getting the deal done this Summer is in everyone’s best interest. Hopefully we can put this behind us soon

    ..
I got SAM playing 14-16’games….. If SAM gets knocked out for the season really early like week 4, maybe by week 14 after getting #2 reps all year and chase stinks it up for like 10 games, Pederson gives Wentz a few games of experience if we are already eliminated from the playoffs the last few days… But I think as long bradford plays like 14 games, we would see Chase, not Wentz…. If Bradford is healthy for at least 10 games, I say we won’t see Wentz
    .
Sure doesn’t suck to get to watch Bradford as our QB without having to care or worry about him getting injured.. I just think he has to miss a large portion of the season to have any Chance of seeing Wentz leapfrog Dougs boy Chase at some point This season, but Im sure every eagle fan would rather watch Wentz than Daniel play this year…

Interesting. I haven’t had a chance to read it and have only seen headlines (which can be frustratingly misleading), but the little I have seen seems to have a slightly different take and that Bradford was not giving great answers (said it was Condons idea rather than taking ownership of his own decision/acknowledged no one promised him anything and not only that, but the team discussed thay it was only a two year deal with him… an argument used by the few Bradford supporters/viewing things week to week rather than stating he will compete like he is the long term starter, whether it’s for the Eagles or some other team). I’m definitely going to have to listen to the PC later and look forward to seeing some takes thay aren’t just instant takes.

  112. 112 peteike said at 3:10 PM on May 17th, 2016:

  113. 113 Iskar36 said at 3:21 PM on May 17th, 2016:

Yea. That would not surprise me in the least. It also meshes well with the message Condon himself has been pushing. I guess to me though, you are responsible for your own actions. Whether Condon pushed the idea on Bradford or not, Condon still represents Bradford and Bradford ultimately makes the decision. So it’s a bit disingenuous to say it is just Condon’s idea, but from a PR standpoint, I completely understand making that statement.

Nolan Carroll went through individual drills but does not participate in team. Jordan Hicks is sitting out team drills as well with tightness in his legs, according to Pederson.

SIMMONS will be better next year, but I’d bet on ingram growing into the better pro. Don’t even know what to do with INGRAM. As a PF I don’t think he can bully his way to the rim which is all he did in college and as a Pg, do we really want a PG that can’t shoot? His personality also scares the hell out of me.
    ..
He chose LSU because they let him film his showtime documentary which Duke and Kentucky would have never allowed.. Now he is letting Shoe deal dictate where he wants to go? For a kid who showed very little heart in college and quit on his team? SIMMONS will make teammates better, but SIMMONS can be that closer for us and carry a scoring load… Don’t like that he didn’t insist on LSU playing in the NIT… Im lucky I saw a lot of his high school career, if I only saw him play at LSU I would be totally turned Off by him.
    ..
I also think INGRAM and Saric can give us a lot of what we would get from Ben, but Ben can’t give us what we can get from INGRAM… People act like INGRAM can’t get a defensive rebound, push the ball down court and dish, which he can do very well, and It’s what people like about INGRAM.

    ..
I want INGRAM way more than I want SIMMONS, but it’s not like I think SIMMONS is a complete fraud like I thought about Dangelo Russell
    ..

  189. 189 Gian GEAGLE said at 6:24 PM on May 17th, 2016:

Fuck a PG… If we draft Dunn, I Guaremtee we will want to draft over him next year and take another PG… Next year is an absolute STACKED DRAFT, and it’s a Special PG draft, the best part is Josh Jackson, Tatum and GIles are going top 3, so we only have to get to #4 to have our choice of the 6 five, star PGs Lonzo Ball is everything we wish MCW really was, Jason Kidd with a jumper… dennis Smith Jr is pretty nasty, Frank Ntakilinita from France is a bad ass.. Markel Fultz from Washington is really special, the kid going to Duke who made Deryk Thornton transfer out of Duke is pretty good… The worst of the top PGs next year D’Aron Fox from Kentucky would be the top Pg this year
    ..
28 five star freshman next year, in a normal draft their are about 15… Next year is a really special draft class.. We will have our own top pick next year, plus an option to swap with the kings, and we could have the lakers pick meaning we have a shot at one of the top wings Josh Jackson or Tatum. AND we could get a special PG with the Lakers pick.
    ..
But if we get stuck with #4 this year I do hope it becomes Jamal Murray. More capable of a PG than people think, he played off the ball because he can, and to accomadate Tyler Ulis… But he spent the last two years dominating the top PG’s in high school on an international level before he got to kentucky
    ..
Figure we spemd this year evaluating Jamal Murray at PG, sigń a stop gap backüp PG like Grevias Vasquez, and at the end of the year we can move Murray to SG, and take a Franchise PG in next years stacked Draft, ideally Lonzo Ball as a pure BIGTIME franchie PG, or because we would have a combo guard like Murray who can play PG and SG, we could pair him with another combo guard next year in Markel Fultz, and have two Guards who can handle the rock and shoot to hopefully pair with INGRAM at SF
    ..
If Colangelo has half a brain he will wait till next year to really invest in our franchise PG, THATS why I desperately want the Lakers pick NEXT YEAR, not NOW! Rather have two picks next year, #7 in next years draft would be better than #4 this year,,,,, but if we have to take their pick this year, it has to be Murray…
    ..
Kris Dunn is the worst thing that can happen to us… Teams are also doing buddy Heild a disservice by taking him top 10, he isn’t that type a prospect, he belongs in the 20s but will be grossly over drafted,,, if we can’t have Jamal Murray at #4, probably go with Luwawu the French wing from the adriatic league, but I bet he ends up in Denver unless they win the lottery.. If we get #4 and someone takes Murray #3,’they have to consider drafting another 7ft in Dragan Bender, and hold him hostage for a draft night trade

Bembry we can pass on if we get SIMMONS, because his strength is as a playmaking forward which we would get from SIMMONS… But if we get INGRAM, I’d love to get Bembry in the 20s… Think Colangelo will be interested in Drafting a few of the older kids like Bembry and Prince, since he doesn’t want too much youth.

  198. 198 Dave said at 4:09 PM on May 17th, 2016:

After watching Bradford’s press conference, I couldn’t help but wonder if Sam’s (Condon’s) contract demands brought about the Wentz trade.

Sam said in the press conference that the reason he only signed a 2-year deal was that he was looking to play well during the next 2 years to secure a long-term deal with the team. I imagine the reason that a long-term deal wasn’t agreed upon was Condon’s asking price was to be one of the highest-paid QBs in the league.

In retrospect, I wonder if Sam realizes that if he took a team friendly contract like Andy Dalton or Kaep (lower salary that team can get out from under in a few years if the player under performs), that the Eagles may not have traded for Wentz.

  199. 199 anon said at 4:11 PM on May 17th, 2016:

  200. 200 Gian GEAGLE said at 4:13 PM on May 17th, 2016:

Yeah as a bradford supporter, taking the short term deal was smart on the Eagles part especially if they didn’t have to dive in and commit Longterm to retain him… Why wouldn’t they prefer a short term deal when the guy only made it thru one season healthy and they are still signing him hoping he will realize his potemtial…

  201. 201 Media Mike said at 4:13 PM on May 17th, 2016:

  214. 214 Dave said at 5:17 PM on May 17th, 2016:

Here is a tip to make identical burgers at home (as I love 5 Guys too but hate the price).

I buy 1 pound square packs of grass fed beef from Wegmans and separate them into quarters (1/4 pound each). I press them out so they are only about 1/4 inch thick and then use sea salt and fresh cracked black pepper each side.

Fire the grill up with all burners on high and once the grill gets to 500+ degrees, I put the burgers on and close the lid. After about 1 minute, I flip the burgers and close the lid again. After about 1 more minute I flip them again and place cheese on them. After about 30 seconds, they are done and on the rolls ready to eat.

They will be extremely juicy and slightly pink on the inside. My family cannot taste the difference between mine and 5 Guys. The best thing as that you can make them in the dark in the winter since you don’t have to guess when they are done. We even eat them as double cheeseburgers as they are so thin.

  215. 215 anon said at 5:19 PM on May 17th, 2016:

  217. 217 peteike said at 5:31 PM on May 17th, 2016:

well, we can get into the diner style burger that 5 guys serves vs a burger cooked to order that is thick enough to cook medium. Then even individually owned (which youll probably find the best) vs a chain.

For the diner style I love 5 guys and yes, you get a bit of grease with that. Out here in CO we have smashburger which takes pride in cooking them in their own grease and creating a crispy layer. While decent, it can also send you running. Nice that we have all these options now, theres so many of these fast casual burger places now, Lark Burger is another out here, pretty good. I think its put a real dent in the fast food business.

The researchers explained that imagining eating a food actually makes you less hungry for it later, so when someone else makes a sandwich for you, you haven’t already ‘pre-consumed’ it while putting it together, and it’s a more enjoyable experience.”
