PHI 13, CLE 7 – 2nd Half

Good start for Carson Wentz and the Eagles. Could have been better, but the team played well for the most part.

The offense has shown a lot of promise, but is still too sloppy. Drops. Missed blocks. Errant throws. This is not a well-oiled machine that is clicking on all cylinders. The encouraging thing is that you can see the potential. Wentz looks like the real deal. Jordan Matthews has had an impact in his first game action of 2016. The role players are doing some good things.

The defense has been good vs the run. Pass coverage has been up and down. Nolan Carroll had a rough opening half. You can see that RGIII’s athleticism is still a real problem for defenses. Jordan Hicks tipped a pass that Jordan Hicks picked off. That ended a promising drive.

Caleb Sturgis missed a FG. Eagles should be up 16-7. Can’t afford to make mistakes like that in a winnable game like this.

Need to clean some things up, but plenty of reasons to be encouraged.

Our cornerbacks are still a clear weakness.

  27. 27 Aaron said at 2:45 PM on September 11th, 2016:

no, the D line is the problem,

  28. 28 Spooonius said at 2:46 PM on September 11th, 2016:

I think it’s a little of both today. The D line is clearly not getting pressure and the secondary looks lost.

    ok, you’re right

  30. 30 Spooonius said at 2:47 PM on September 11th, 2016:

I was pretty sure you’d agree 🙂 Still up by 3 though

  31. 31 BobSmith77 said at 2:47 PM on September 11th, 2016:

Zero pressure when they are rushing the front 4.

  32. 32 xeynon said at 2:46 PM on September 11th, 2016:

Not getting a ton of pressure but I think some of that is not wanting to overcommit and let Griffin beat us with his legs. But those two long bombs Griffin completed were both plays the receivers should not have been allowed to make.

  33. 33 Jarock said at 2:46 PM on September 11th, 2016:

You still remember the 90s era line. D-line not having a great game, but I still think they’ve been told to play contain and that’s hampering them. CB is a problem. Not a monster problem, but I don’t like the matchup of our best corner vs. their best receiver.

  34. 34 Aaron said at 2:47 PM on September 11th, 2016:

has anyone on the line been close to RGknee yet,

  35. 35 Jarock said at 2:48 PM on September 11th, 2016:

  43. 43 xeynon said at 2:49 PM on September 11th, 2016:

They haven’t run much (any?) play action yet. Hopefully all these running plays they ran in the first half are setting something up.

  44. 44 Jarock said at 2:50 PM on September 11th, 2016:

No playaction deep. Lots of play action.

  45. 45 Jarock said at 2:49 PM on September 11th, 2016:

  46. 46 Greg Richards said at 2:49 PM on September 11th, 2016:

  65. 65 Jarock said at 2:59 PM on September 11th, 2016:

  69. 69 xeynon said at 2:53 PM on September 11th, 2016:

That was a hell of a throw to Matthews. We haven’t had a QB who could make that throw since McNabb at his best.

  70. 70 BobSmith77 said at 2:54 PM on September 11th, 2016:

    Vick could have made that.

  71. 71 xeynon said at 2:55 PM on September 11th, 2016:

Vick had the arm but I doubt he would’ve hung in the pocket like that.

  72. 72 BobSmith77 said at 2:56 PM on September 11th, 2016:

He had the arm but your right about staying in the pocket.

Were people expecting this to be other than a rinky-dink offense especially in a rookie’s NFL debut (who didn’t even really play in the preseason)?

  82. 82 xeynon said at 2:57 PM on September 11th, 2016:

I’m not upset by the play calling but the execution has to be better. We led the league in drops last season and it seems like we’re intent on doing it again this year.

  83. 83 BobSmith77 said at 2:58 PM on September 11th, 2016:

Yeah but Wentz has had lousy touch and missed some short passes today.

If they can avoid a killer turnover or two, they’ll win this game. So far they have done that.

  84. 84 Jarock said at 2:58 PM on September 11th, 2016:

Expected the OL to play a bit better. Haven’t been awful, but this isn’t a great DL they’re playing. Should be dominating up front.

  85. 85 BobSmith77 said at 2:59 PM on September 11th, 2016:

They didn’t play much together in the preseason and it doesn’t surprise me. Peters hasn’t looked the mobile on the edge and Kelce (in the running for most overrated Eagles’ player) has been subpar.

  86. 86 Spooonius said at 2:56 PM on September 11th, 2016:

True, but it’s to be expected . At least the it’s the same old browns!!!

  97. 97 A_T_G said at 2:57 PM on September 11th, 2016:

I’m liking Pederson’s game plan a lot. Not reinventing the wheel with his play design but seems to have a nice feel for how to keep the defense off balance by not getting into ruts with his play calls. Coming from Chip who was awful in that regard it’s a breath of fresh air.

  150. 150 Tumtum said at 3:06 PM on September 11th, 2016:

    2?

  151. 151 BC1968 said at 3:07 PM on September 11th, 2016:

Yep, Wentz has thrown 2 TD passes

  152. 152 A_T_G said at 3:07 PM on September 11th, 2016:

That was my recommendation before they kicked to us, since the TD was a given.

  153. 153 FairOaks said at 3:09 PM on September 11th, 2016:

Rather just get the point. 12 point lead is a two-TD lead, 11 is 1 TD and a FG. And if you say the score can change… true, and you usually just take the point before the 4th quarter for that reason.

  154. 154 Tumtum said at 3:10 PM on September 11th, 2016:

Meh, I would of gone for it

  155. 155 A_T_G said at 3:06 PM on September 11th, 2016:

  158. 158 BobSmith77 said at 3:06 PM on September 11th, 2016:

I loved how initially Agholor looked a bit surprised he caught it. Hilarious.

  159. 159 Ark87 said at 3:09 PM on September 11th, 2016:

he looked surprised by the placement, he had to make a very late adjustment. Not sure what to make of it, but I’d like to see more of it 😀

  160. 160 SeanofDead said at 3:06 PM on September 11th, 2016:

Perfect pass….Ive got a semi goin on

  161. 161 BC1968 said at 3:06 PM on September 11th, 2016:

That got a nice spot by the officials on the 4th down play. Just sayin’ At least a half yard more than he actually got, not sure if it was the difference between getting it or not.

  162. 162 John Galt said at 3:07 PM on September 11th, 2016:

He hasn’t been perfect by any stretch but he doesn’t look like a kid playing his first game which bodes very well IMO

  163. 163 BobSmith77 said at 3:08 PM on September 11th, 2016:

Deep balls have been. Touches on the stuff <7 yards is what has been lacking.

I'm fine with that. Just no INTs throwing into double coverage.

  164. 164 Spooonius said at 3:08 PM on September 11th, 2016:

I wonder what his rating is so far

  165. 165 FairOaks said at 3:10 PM on September 11th, 2016:

102.4 (had been trending down since the first drive, but that helped)

  166. 166 xeynon said at 3:09 PM on September 11th, 2016:

He’s demonstrating franchise QB-caliber physical talent and his flaws mostly look correctable. I’m pretty happy with what I’ve seen so far.

  167. 167 RC5000 said at 3:10 PM on September 11th, 2016:

He’s also barely played with these guys. He’s better at audibles in his first game than McNabb ever was too.

  168. 168 BobSmith77 said at 3:11 PM on September 11th, 2016:

Audibles are such a nice thing to see today. Matthews one in the 1st half was huge.

I so missed them after the last 2 years of Kelly’s forced stubborness/stupidity in that regard.

  169. 169 BobSmith77 said at 3:07 PM on September 11th, 2016:

Like to see a bit more pressure this drive. Haven’t blitzed that much so far.

  170. 170 Iskar36 said at 3:08 PM on September 11th, 2016:

Loving Pederson play calong so far. Even had we not converted on that 4th down, was definitely the right call and plenty of coaches don’t make itm. Then has opened up some deep passing for Wentz.

  171. 171 Spooonius said at 3:10 PM on September 11th, 2016:

I definitely feel relieved. I know the rookies (coach, qb) won’t be this good every game, but at least we know it’s possible. good play calling, clock management, audibles and shaking off hits

  172. 172 Allen3000 said at 3:08 PM on September 11th, 2016:

I’m listening to Merrill and Mike Quick who I love, but would love to have seen that drive. Looks like we got a good one in Wentz. Made a tough 4th down pass and hits Ags for a TD. I’m cautiously, but very optimistic.

  173. 173 Corry said at 3:09 PM on September 11th, 2016:

You’ll see the highlights. It was a perfect pass.

  174. 174 BobSmith77 said at 3:09 PM on September 11th, 2016:

    I so don’t miss Captain Checkdown . . .

  175. 175 Aaron said at 3:09 PM on September 11th, 2016:

thats what he’s mostly done today

  176. 176 BobSmith77 said at 3:10 PM on September 11th, 2016:

He has hit a few nice deep balls today. They have gone conservative and don’t want him forcing things. Exactly what they should be doing against a pedestrian Browns’ offense.

  177. 177 Dragon_Eagle said at 3:11 PM on September 11th, 2016:

Its a West Coast offense. Its built on the short passing game. But Carson has gone down he field. Sammie B, would throw 1 per game at best.

  178. 178 BC1968 said at 3:11 PM on September 11th, 2016:

Yep he’s throwing bullets, those out routes aren’t easy to make, a weak armed QB doesn’t get it there or gets picked off.

  179. 179 Dragon_Eagle said at 3:09 PM on September 11th, 2016:

I think Carson is ready to start.

  180. 180 John Galt said at 3:09 PM on September 11th, 2016:

The Chiefs really miss Dougie…or maybe Chase Daniel

  181. 181 BC1968 said at 3:10 PM on September 11th, 2016:

Let’s face it, with all the time Wentz had even Tom Brady could’ve made that throw.

  182. 182 xeynon said at 3:12 PM on September 11th, 2016:

Time helps but that was still a beautifully placed throw that not every NFL QB can make consistently.

  183. 183 A_T_G said at 3:13 PM on September 11th, 2016:

Brady would have needed a clean pocket for a little over 4 weeks.

  184. 184 Greg Richards said at 3:10 PM on September 11th, 2016:

  189. 189 SeanofDead said at 3:11 PM on September 11th, 2016:

  203. 203 FairOaks said at 3:14 PM on September 11th, 2016:

Did Reid run a lot McNabb’s rookie year? I can’t remember much but it seems to me he took a little bit longer to get pass-happy.

  204. 204 BobSmith77 said at 3:17 PM on September 11th, 2016:

They were 59 pass/41 run split in 2000. They passed a lot initially from the get go.

  205. 205 FairOaks said at 3:22 PM on September 11th, 2016:

Just looking, it was 53/47 in 1999, which was McNabb’s rookie year. Just not sure how much of that was Pederson vs. McNabb.

  206. 206 Insomniac said at 3:18 PM on September 11th, 2016:

Had to look at the numbers but the offense felt pretty balanced during the first half. We seem to be passing more now that Wentz has found his groove.

  207. 207 xeynon said at 3:15 PM on September 11th, 2016:

Looks like the disciple of KC Andy, who is much more run friendly than PHI Andy was.

  208. 208 Iskar36 said at 3:16 PM on September 11th, 2016:

Yea. Definitely a storyline that was missed in the offseason was Phi vs KC Andy and how Pederson would have learned from both versions.

I am really liking the post-handoff fakes from Wentz. Not enough QBs do it and it has potential to slow a defender that split second.

  357. 357 BobSmith77 said at 3:48 PM on September 11th, 2016:

I said in the thread yesterday that the Browns were one of the few teams in the NFL that you could legitimately say ‘they suck’

Nothing I have seen today changes my mind otherwise. Just one bad team on both sides of the ball.

  358. 358 Jarock said at 3:51 PM on September 11th, 2016:

This is true. It’s also true that many people have been predicting the Eagles would only win 5 games. While I don’t think that’s impossible, the Eagles looked good enough today that I think that’s improbable.

  359. 359 xeynon said at 3:53 PM on September 11th, 2016:

One thing I don’t buy anymore is that trading Bradford is going to hurt our chances to win this season. Looks to me like Wentz for him is a wash at worst.

  360. 360 BobSmith77 said at 3:54 PM on September 11th, 2016:

I was in the 6-game prediction and I’ll still stand by it. This game didn’t show that much.

Beat the shittiest team in the NFL at home. Nice to see a W but Bears are more interesting matchup for several reasons.

  361. 361 BobSmith77 said at 3:58 PM on September 11th, 2016:

Yeah they beat a team they should beat. Didn’t really kill themselves with ill-advised penalties or turnovers.

Execution problems on offense but I expected that and for much of the early going too.

  362. 362 Jarock said at 4:03 PM on September 11th, 2016:

They beat a bad team soundly. No, it wasn’t always pretty, but we play in a horrible division where most of the teams are about the same level as the Eagles. I’m not on the, “We’re going to win 10 or 11 games and go to the SB” bandwagon, but I think 8-8 is very possible.

Eagles had issues on offense but showed promise as well. D played well. Could have been better, but I’m perfectly happy with giving up 10 and let’s face it, 7 were a gift from the refs.

  363. 363 Spooonius said at 3:48 PM on September 11th, 2016:

    Sorry guys.

  437. 437 xeynon said at 4:49 PM on September 11th, 2016:

As soon as I saw that story about how the Browns passed him up because they didn’t think he had the potential to be a top 20 QB, I thought “that’s it, he’s probably going to be the next Brady, win 6 Super Bowls, and end up in Canton”. That franchise is the George Costanza of the NFL – a team that did precisely the opposite of whatever they thought was best would end up building a dynasty.

  441. 441 xeynon said at 4:05 PM on September 11th, 2016:

I just want to savor the fact that we seem to have gotten first and fourth round picks to upgrade at QB. So nice to have a competent GM back in charge.

  442. 442 Crus57 said at 4:07 PM on September 11th, 2016:

I don’t know how good Wentz looked overall, but don’t judge him based on the Browns. I don’t think many QBs are going to look bad playing them this season.

  443. 443 BobSmith77 said at 4:10 PM on September 11th, 2016:

He did face some pressure today – 2 sacks, 8 QB hits.

His touch was lacking on a lot of short passes and he had some batted balls but he didn’t make any ill-advised passing/running decisions. That to me was huge especially in his debut with almost no preseason play.

He played within the game plan and didn’t make one bone-headed decision. Contrast that to a Vick or Sanchez.

  444. 444 xeynon said at 4:10 PM on September 11th, 2016:

He was up and down, but more the former than the latter. But Bradford would’ve been also, and Wentz made several throws today I don’t think I’ve ever seen Sammy B make. I’m not putting him in Canton just yet, but I don’t think there’s any way we’re looking at a downgrade at QB from that trade. At worst it’s a lateral move.

  445. 445 D3FB said at 4:44 PM on September 11th, 2016:

Standing in the pocket on third and fourth down getting blasted and completing passes beyond the sticks is automatically an upgrade.

  446. 446 xeynon said at 4:52 PM on September 11th, 2016:

Agreed. I did notice him lock onto his first read a few times, he threw a little hot and low on some of the short passes, and while there were no bad decisions today I think we’ll likely see some hiccups in judgment at times given that he’s a rookie. Overall Bradford might be able to equal him with veteran savvy. But in regard to sheer physical talent Wentz clearly has a higher ceiling. He reminds me a bit of Roethlisberger.

I will say. Good game played by both teams. The signs of good coaching were there for both teams. Not a sloppy game in the least. Sure we had some drops, but that is to be expected at this point.

The difference was the offense today. Our skill positions and QB were clearly better than the opposition. JMat looked good vs Haden. RM and Mike’s guy both looked good behind a line that did its job.

The Browns adjusted their offense, and our D adjusted accordingly.

    Good win.

  458. 458 xeynon said at 4:46 PM on September 11th, 2016:

Beating the Browns isn’t impressive, but how Wentz beat them was really impressive stuff… I was really surprised to see him play so much out of the pocket and look pretty good doing it..
    .
How many gifted mobile QBs DONT run at all in their debut? rare, most need to especially early in their career. Wentz didn’t need to run, we didn’t need to roll him out all day either. im shocked by how well prepared he looked from the pocket not even having played in the last month.. Also surprised he didn’t have to lean on his tight ends all day, and was even able to hopefully build some confidence in Agholar who had a really nice day. jordan Mathews is going to have a monster season
    ..
It won’t be all sunshine and candy canes with the rookie, but this kid undeniably has that IT FACTOR… notice how Wentz didmt give two shits about Joe Haden being on the field, he didn’t avoid him, went after him as if he was anyone..,

For a general manager, a head coach and defendwrs who all ran their mouths bashing Wentz in the media, he sure made that Franchise look silly today… good for him, and this was a team win, all 3 phases of the game played well.
    ..
Once we got a nice lead, the DL was able to take over. Great sack by Barwin beating Joe T
    ..
ROCKIN Rod Mcleod had a heckuva debut!

On to Chicago! Like the Browns, their pass rush isnt anything Special. only had 1 sack today and it came from LB Travathan blitzing. but it’s never easy for a young QB on the road, but it’s a manageable matchup, hopefully we take advantage and start the season 2-0

Some of his passes were beautiful, power, accuracy and touch at times. Loved how he controlled the game presnap and seemed to execute that aspect of the game better than any QB i remember in a rookie year let alone their first start. Showed enough to be really excited about the future.

Danny Shelton wasnt a major Factor today, and our run game was solid, so I assume Kelce had a pretty solid game? Hopefully having bulked up makes a difference. We ghas success running to both sides today.
    .
Mills looked like he held his own but hopefully the Leodis injury isn’t serious
    .
    Barner gave us a spark
    ..
I hate to say it, but the most Dissapointing player on offense today was Sproles with a few costly drops, but he is proven enough to give him the benefit of the doubt.
    ..
The most important thing we accomplished today was getting Agholar going. hopefully he Can build on this solid game

  538. 538 RobNE said at 5:28 PM on September 11th, 2016:

Um I think the most imp thing was 11.

  539. 539 Gian GEAGLE said at 5:32 PM on September 11th, 2016:

Yeah but that’s obvious low hanging fruit

Apparently when Pederson and Reicht were raving about him being ready for this, they weren’t blowing smoke up our ass

  540. 540 Insomniac said at 5:32 PM on September 11th, 2016:

I know it’s just one game and it was against the Browns but Doug seems like a very solid coach. Maybe it’s just a breath of fresh air from Chip Kelly’s incompetence but I’m pro Doug Pederson now.

  541. 541 Gian GEAGLE said at 5:41 PM on September 11th, 2016:

    Good play calling
    ..
solid with penalties for the most part Outside of our starting OL needing to familiarize themselves with Wentz Cadence cleaning up the false starts.
    ..
dominated time of possession for the first time in Years
    ..
Coached with some Balls, showed faith in the kid and the offense going for it on 4th.
    ..
Most important, they managed to prepare the kid for this even tho he was the 3rd string QB all offseason
    .,
It was one game, but Pederson and his Staff deserve to be praised for today.. The challenges will get tougher, but hopefully we will improve too.
    ..
pederson, schwartz, Greg Lewis, Fipp, Reicht, DiFilipo, Duce all deserve a tip of their Cap for our first test..

He does seem like a guy who won’t outsmart himself. That part is good.

Kelly was only bizarrely incompetent his last year, though that year was bad enough to obliterate lots of good memories the first two.

  543. 543 kid said at 5:33 PM on September 11th, 2016:

Should have gotten Ramsey. They need him.

  544. 544 John Galt said at 5:39 PM on September 11th, 2016:

No pressure either way in this giants girls game

  545. 545 Fufina said at 5:40 PM on September 11th, 2016:

My Stafford start x2 in Fantasy is looking good so far. Everyone is getting fired in Indy – the fact you cannot build a semi competent team around Luck is just awful mismanagement.

  546. 546 Gian GEAGLE said at 5:43 PM on September 11th, 2016:

Grigson and Pagano have to go… Unfortunately they can’t fire their owner

  547. 547 Jernst said at 6:22 PM on September 11th, 2016:

Indy is the most overrated team and Luck is the most overrated QB of the past 5 years. That team is hot garbage.

  548. 548 BobSmith77 said at 5:41 PM on September 11th, 2016:

Easily the play of the game was the 4 and 4 completion to Ertz for the 1st down from the Browns’ 41.

It was still 15-10 at that point in a close game and Wentz stood in there to take a decent hit from the unblocked blitzing LB. Eagles never looked back after that play.

  549. 549 BobSmith77 said at 5:45 PM on September 11th, 2016:

I love maniac Eagles’ fans. In the postgame, Roseman is a genius, Wentz is ‘the real deal’ and almost every caller is talking 9 or 10 wins and playoffs.

They won a game against the worst team in the NFL at home. This was a game they should have won and did.

I was just hoping Wentz came out today and didn’t hurt their chances of winning today. He did that and more today. Gives you something to watch now in the early going & hopefully some competitive football in the process.

  550. 550 Bert's Bells said at 6:11 PM on September 11th, 2016:

Beating a bunch of crap teams got Washington into the playoffs last year.

  551. 551 BobSmith77 said at 6:23 PM on September 11th, 2016:

True. Next week is another one of those games too.

If get to 3-1 at the bye, I can understand a bit more optimistism about the playoffs.

  552. 552 Jernst said at 6:21 PM on September 11th, 2016:

Roseman is a genius, Wentz does look like the real deal…I’m still only projecting an 8 win ceiling because the Oline sucks, the WRs are atrocious, RB is a ticking time bomb and the defense gave RG3 all day to throw today.

  553. 553 daveH said at 6:23 PM on September 11th, 2016:

Id love yo see a few less hits taken by CW

  554. 554 BobSmith77 said at 6:24 PM on September 11th, 2016:

That was the OL especially in the 1st half. I thought Wentz held on to the ball too long for one sack but most of the pressure generated on him & sacks/hits weren’t due to Wentz.

  555. 555 Gian GEAGLE said at 5:50 PM on September 11th, 2016:

Playing against this cowboy defense must be so much fun. Average secondary, playing behind no pass rush, two of three LB’s are average at best. Dak is lucky they have a great offense, because the kid will have to put up 30pts a game just to have a shot at winning
    ..
I love how much our DL usually gets up to play the Cowboys OL, and how our DL has been dominating the Giants OL for years
    ..
kurt Cousins is the real division X factor. If last year Wasnt a Fluke, they are probably more well rounded then the Cowboys and Giants, curious to see if Josh Norman is as good as he was in Carolina

  556. 556 mksp said at 5:51 PM on September 11th, 2016:

This season is about Carson Wentz looking poised, playing with composure, and flashing big time throws.

He did all that today. A lot to clean up, but looked like a franchise QB.

Can’t ask for much more, even it was against the Browns.

    Thought OL looked bad.

  557. 557 Gian GEAGLE said at 5:55 PM on September 11th, 2016:

We need dallas to start the year on a nice little losing streak instead of building confidence that they can win without Romo. After what they went thru without Romo last year, starting the season on a losing streak could really mess with that teams Psyche… Rooting for the Giants hard today, since we OWN the Giants anyway

  565. 565 Dragon_Eagle said at 6:03 PM on September 11th, 2016:

Elliott is going to be a good to great RB for about 3 years. Then he’s going to fall off a cliff. He’s getting punished and runs violently. Only AP can get away with that.

  566. 566 RC5000 said at 6:05 PM on September 11th, 2016:

He’s very young., not sure he’ll be over the hill at 24.

  567. 567 oreofestar said at 6:14 PM on September 11th, 2016:

  568. 568 Dave said at 6:24 PM on September 11th, 2016:

He may end up like Ryan Mathews.

  569. 569 RC5000 said at 6:31 PM on September 11th, 2016:

Mathews played every game in his 4th year but maybe he will have constant issues.

Nice to see Morris Claiborne still sucks.

  575. 575 Jernst said at 6:17 PM on September 11th, 2016:

Wentz absolutely looks like the real deal. I went on record before the draft saying from the limited tape I saw that Goff was more ready than Wentz by quite a bit. I’m happy to say I was very wrong. One game…blah, blah, blah…You can tell when you see Webtz in live action, up close that he has “IT”. We made the right choice. I have no idea how good he’ll become but I have ultimate confidence in the kid progressing quickly to that ceiling. After just one offseason of pro coaching the kid has fixed most of the pocket concerns I was worried about and looks like a 10 year starter in the making. And, despite playing against a trash team today he put up almost 300 yards 2TDs and no picks with absolutely no help from the rest of his offense save one Zach Ertz one handed catch. Love what I saw today.

  576. 576 Will Mahoney said at 6:19 PM on September 11th, 2016:

Id say Matthews came up big today. Browns had no answer for him in the slot or on the outside. He had two silly drops but he also bailed out the QB with some diving catches

  577. 577 RC5000 said at 6:22 PM on September 11th, 2016:

I know what you’re saying, Matthews played well but I wouldn’t say on the one he bailed out Wentz. It was a very good throw only Matthews could get.

  578. 578 Dave said at 6:23 PM on September 11th, 2016:

Seems that Wentz throws the ball up and expectant receiver to catch when in single man coverage. I think it makes the receivers concentrate more on the catch.

  579. 579 BobSmith77 said at 6:22 PM on September 11th, 2016:

Dave Spadaro – ‘That is an impressive debut as you will ever see.’

I have come to really enjoy Dave’s hyperbole and the inevitable counter reaction it generates.

  580. 580 BobSmith77 said at 6:25 PM on September 11th, 2016:

I agreed with Spadaro though that it showed a lot of faith the Eagles let Wentz take that many pass attempts today and most importantly go for it on 4 & 4 at a critical junction with a pass play.

  581. 581 Dave said at 6:28 PM on September 11th, 2016:

I think it was more about the number of plays they ran vs number of passes thrown. 73 plays is a lot, hard to run it 50 times in a game. Pretty good balance IMO.

  582. 582 Jernst said at 6:39 PM on September 11th, 2016:

Amazing that we ran more plays than the average Chip game but still dominated time of possession…funny how it’s totally possible to do both.

  583. 583 anon said at 7:28 PM on September 11th, 2016:

    it’s the browns

  584. 584 Jernst said at 6:26 PM on September 11th, 2016:

One thing I noticed was that Clevelands safeties and CBs had no respect for our WRs. They played press all game with both safeties within 8 yards of the LOS. I was shocked we didn’t take more shots. Only two, the over throw to Matthews where he seemed to stop running for no reason and the TD to Agholar. Other than that we let them crowd the line. Hopefully Doug takes the training wheels off Wentz soon and someone steps up as a legitimate deep threat.
