Halftime – PHI 9, CHI 7

The Eagles are playing sloppy football and the Bears are a tougher opponent than the Browns. The energy from the crowd also seems to be helping Chicago a bit.
Carson Wentz has been good, but not great. He just made a terrific throw before halftime that should have been a TD, but Jordan Matthews dropped the ball. Ugh. The Eagles have virtually no run game right now. The OL isn’t getting any push and Jason Kelce is really struggling. OL coach Jeff Stoutland has to get his group settled down and playing better.
The defense has mostly played well. The big issue was rookie corner Jalen Mills biting on a double move and letting Alshon Jeffrey go by him for a huge gain that set up a TD. The DL has gotten good pressure and the Bears have even less of a run game than the Eagles.
The skill players need to make some plays to help Wentz out. The OL has to find a way to open some running holes.
The defense needs to come up with a takeaway.
And the offense must execute better in the Red Zone. Simply kicking FGs isn’t likely to win this game.

You’re a tough critic Tommy, I would have described Wentz’ half as not good but great.
Just about to say that. I don’t know what Wentz could of done better, except go out of bounds that one play.
With the qualification that it’s his 2nd NFL game. He’s not lost at all out there. First road, night game. Gaining tons of valuable experience. Cannot take those hits though. He is fun to watch! I’m having a blast watching him!
I lost all future hope for Kelce as center of the future when he literally got slid back by a DL just like a blocking sled.
I’m still a fan of his. It’s the mental mistakes he’s been making the last two years that have been driving me nuts. He’s always going to be slightly undersized, but that can be compensated. Coaches need to do a better job taking advantage of his unique skills and minimizing his deficiencies.
I think this is why Josh Andrews is on the team. I think k they’re grooming him to be the future center. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s the starter after the bye week.
Especially now that Wentz can call the protections.
Stats are only ok, but he’s made some great throws only for penalties to burn them. Kelce’s having a really rough game and they need to get some running to help protect Wentz. Hate seeing him take so many hits.
I wonder if Kelce continues to strugge if they take a look at Wiz at center. I don’t think it’ll happen until the bye week, but man is his blocking a liability right now.
Aghs has quietly been not terrible so far this season. Hopefully he can build on that this half
Not terrible is actually a slight understatement. That was a big boy catch where Wentz hung him out to dry in triple coverage.
Still don’t completely trust him, but he’s playing much, MUCH better than last season.
Seems to not be thinking and just playing.

Doug Pederson is the Chip Kelly we thought we were going to get.
I’m more impressed with Doug. He has less talent than what Chip had at the start.

When you fly up to make an open field tackle you are supposed to shimmy your feet when you get in close proximity to ball carrier, keep a wide athletic base, keep the arms back, square up, wrap up and drive the ball carrier back (was just coaching this to my OLBs/DB’s earlier today in practice). Our DB’s have been extra sloppy tonight in making open field tackles – especially on the screens. Teams will start to pick up apart if we don’t correct that problem.

WRs bigger issue tonight. Chicago has had 3 QB hits and 2 sacks on night according to ESPN box score. They weren’t great but they were ok.
Not happy w/how many runs got blown up though. I thought the pass protection was ‘ok’ for most of the game w/the exception of that really ugly stretch in the 2nd. Run blocking has been an issue most of the game.
Run blocking is my main concern. We can’t afford to be too one dimensional – especially when we don’t have reliable, play-making WRs to bail Wentz out.
By my count, we missed on 2 major down field throws that could have resulted in a TD/points. We can’t be doing that. There were some other ugly drops too.
However, the OL was just sloppy. Too many penalties. Too sloppy in run blocking. Just a bad night overall.
and we just GD lose WR’s on deep balls.
DGB needs to become part of this offense, fast.
But Wentz is super mobile so that stat is worse than it looks.
Does Wentz yell “Whistle!” at the line? It reminds me of a friend from school that couldn’t whistle and would yell that instead.

I blame McDonaugh and Gruden for being the worst pairing in MNF history. Makes me feel better.

Had a really good pressure on the Mills bomb.
Soo – mucho credit to our defense. Straight ballin out the gym!!!!!!!! Wentz played great although he needs to not get hit, no turnovers. Not sure how that happened seemed like we were fumbling every other play last year – or tip drills.
All in all very enjoyable game, didn’t even realize the score was so lopsided until the end, same as last week really. If we would have had this defense in 2013/2014 probably would have had a superbowl.
Sleeves looks like he ended up in a nice place. Trade worked for everyone except Chase Daniel.
We know now that Sleeves wasn’t the issue with our WRs.
Cody Kessler will start. Jacoby Brissett almost for sure will start. Both 3rd rounders.
Stat line on this game is terrible. RBs averaging 3+ yds a carry. I’d like to blame it all on Kecle so I will. But run game is terrible.
Though will say Vick Fangio is not to be fucked with I respect him as a DC so I can live with the offense being a little poor.

That will be a tall order. Big Ben is tough to bring down and he’s a player. He can extend plays, and Brown having extra time vs our CBs worries me. I didn’t think their defense showed much vs the Skins, but looked much better vs Cincy. I have to admit that I don’t see a win this Sunday. Coming off a short week vs a very good offense is not an easy task.
Yah. Until Schwartz decides to quintuple cover Brown, I’m having Roethlisbugger just heave the ball down field in Brown’s general direction every play.
