Wise Coach
Posted: October 24th, 2016 | Author: Tommy Lawlor | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 177 Comments »Doug Pederson is a rookie coach and has such a limited background that we don’t have much to judge him on. We’re basically learning who he is and how he does things as the season goes along. So far, he’s done a fantastic job coaching this team.
Last week I wrote about his message to the team after the ugly loss to the Skins. I said Pederson would keep things positive and sure enough that’s exactly what he did. Pederson learned from Andy Reid, who studied Bill Walsh. Ranting and raving to appease fans or the media just wasn’t going to happen. There was a time and place for that, but it had to be the right situation.
I thought Pederson would stay positive because it would send the right message to his team. You focus on the fact the problems are about execution and not talent. That tells the group of players that you believe in them. The answers are in that room, not in next year’s free agents or draft class. You help your players stay confident by showing you’re confident in them.
On Sunday Pederson backed up those words with actions. The Eagles scored a TD to go up 6-3. On the extra point attempt, MIN roughed the kicker. That gave Pederson the option of how to use the penalty. He had the ball put at the 2-yard line and went for the 2-point conversion. Carson Wentz powered his way into the end zone and the Eagles led 8-3.
There isn’t a ton of conventional logic to that. Whether up 7-3 or 8-3, it takes a TD to beat you. Was the one point worth the risk? Pederson knew the Vikings were a stingy defense and just felt any chance to add points had to be taken. I also think he was trying to keep his players confident.
Late in the half the Eagles faced 4th/2 from the MIN 44-yard line. I thought Pederson should punt. That would pin the Vikings deep and there wasn’t much chance they would mount a long TD drive with 1:15 on the clock. Pederson had Wentz try to draw them offside. When that didn’t work, he called a timeout. He then sent Wentz and the offense back on the field. He wanted the first down. He wanted more points. He also wanted to hammer home the message to the players that “I believe in you.”
Think about how often coaches punt. We saw Chip Kelly punt from inside the 40 a few times. Unless it is 4th/long, that always seemed a bit crazy. Coaches obsess on field position and conventional wisdom. Listen, there is no question that pinning a team deep does lessen their chance to score, but you aren’t exactly building up the confidence in your offense. You don’t want to be reckless, but you also don’t want to be scared of taking chances.
Pederson has shown that he wants to be aggressive. I don’t agree with all of his decisions, but that’s probably because I’ve studied coaches who went the conventional wisdom route for years and years. I do not think he’s been reckless at all.
This is somewhat of an unusual team. You have a rookie QB and a lot of young talent, but also key veterans like Jason Peters, Brent Celek, Connor Barwin and Allen Barbre. Those guys want to win now. This isn’t all about building for the future. This is about winning as much as you can in 2016. Pederson has to send the right message to both groups of players. He’s developing the young guys and trying to keep the veterans positive and focused. That’s not always easy, but Pederson has really pushed all the right buttons so far this year.
Now he has the Ryan Mathews situation to deal with. Outsiders would bench, maybe cut the guy. Pederson, being a former player, has tried to show his guys that he believes in them by letting them work through mistakes. He could have easily benched Vaitai last week, but didn’t. He’s been patient with the WRs. It will be interesting to see what he does with Mathews. Maybe he sticks with him until late in the game. Or maybe he does cut back on using him. One late game fumble can be forgiven. Two is a different story. That can be forgiven as well, but not as easily and it might not happen. A lot of things go into an interception. Fumbles are usually all on the person with the ball.
Part of the equation is what the locker room thinks of Mathews. Do his teammates love him? Is he a key guy? Is he a loner? Not all situations are the same. You are going to be more patient with someone who is a key part of the team and a key part of the locker room. I don’t know if Mathews is that guy?
Personally, I’d like to get Wendell Smallwood more touches. He shows better vision and better burst than Mathews right now. Let’s see what the young guy can do.
Pederson may not address the situation publicly, but we’ll see in his actions in the next few weeks what his decision with Mathews is. This is another challenge for Pederson, but so far he’s been outstanding with handling everything that has come his way. He’s certainly earned my confidence with his decision-making.
Arguably the best thing you can say about a coach is that he makes his team better through his leadership and his game management. So far Pederson has been outstanding on both fronts. He deserves an A+ for his work to this point.

[…] Tommy Lawlor Doug Pederson is a rookie coach and has such a limited background that we don’t have much to […]
The Lane Johnson situation will also be interesting to watch. He’s our best OL, but he already has two strikes. Strike 3 and he’s pretty much out of the league. Do we keep the plan of playing him at LT for the next 5 years?
No choice but keep going. Peters is old and injury prone.
Odds are we cant draft a better LT than Johnson, so unless a guy drops, draft a guard/center, LB or CB with the Vikings pick
I think his contract protects the Eagles from that but if he’s not ultra conservative with supplements at this point, he’s a dummy. Eagles still need to draft OL in the draft, at the minimum to challenge Big V, and possibly to take over for Lane if need be.
On another note, we’re done with 20% of lane’s suspension now, woot!
With LT’s and QB’s, I don’t think the money really comes into play. Either you have good ones or you don’t. If you do, they’re gonna cost a lot.
Matt Tobin has looked really good when he’s played. Not sure why LT is so more natural to him than RG.
Same reason why its more natural to write with your right over your left (assuming you are right handed)
True. Which begs the question as to why the coaches tried him on the right side to begin with.
Some guys can handle it with zero problems, but they are usually freaks of nature.
Zack Martin played LT at ND and now is a pro bowl RG.
Shawn Andrews was a star LT at Arkansas and was the best RG in the NFL before he got hurt
Lane Johnson played RT, then LT in college and now plays RT and everybody expect him to play LT 1-2 years.
Chip Kelly also thought that the Steelers’ starting LT should be a DE.
Don’t ask why, just try to forget.
Didnt he come as a DE?
100 pounds and a year later hes a LT. Not sure id put that one Chip.
He was only ever a starter as an OT and TE in college, and his best season came at LT.
It’s entirely on Chip.
I blame Chip for a lot of things… but that one doesnt. Maybe MSII is really a OT too
Did MSII spend his entire college career as an offensive blocker, haha?
Villanueva was a raw OT prospect coming out of college. He’s turned into a decent OT in the NFL.
The only people who ever thought he was a defensive end were his HS coaches and Chip Kelly.
The only things I really don’t understand from Pederson so far is (1) the lack of TEs in the gameplan against Detroit and (2) why not give Vaitai help at the START of the redskins game to build his confidence and let him get into a flow? That first series rattled both Vaitai and Wentz.
You mean like this?
https://twitter.com/fduffy3/status/788085683629985792
No, I said HELP. 😛 For some reason my recollection on that was that Vaitai gave up that sack. Thanks for the correction.
I know Wentz held onto that for too long, but should a TE be solo pass blocking against their best edge rusher?
Yeah, playcalling in that game was awful. Maybe it’s just one of those games where Doug over-thought things. Conservative approach would probably have been best there. Runs, screens, short stuff to boost the OL confidence.
A normal TE no, Celek in spurts is fine. The play is designed for Celek to do just what he did but for Carson to step up. Unfortunately Barbre is doing god knows what and just kind of drifts back into the space where Carson is supposed to step up into.
Help?
Schwartz talks about Barwin getting snaps cut down earlier in week. Barwin has strip-sack….coincidence? I think NOT! #TheSchwartz
Watching McNabb on Mike and Mike. I dunno why I find it so annoying to listen to him…
I’m amazed that a guy who was such a jerk to the media during his playing career, gets a job in media after he’s done playing. Especially given the multiple DUIs since…
If I remember, he was a communications major at Syracuse so this was probably something he planned as his career after football. Doesn’t explain much, I know.
Donny’s public communication skills are simple to define:
pas·sive-ag·gres·sive
adjective
of or denoting a type of behavior or personality characterized by indirect resistance to the demands of others and an avoidance of direct confrontation, as in procrastinating, pouting, or misplacing important materials.
probably a better descriptor than pompous as I used earlier.
I don’t watch press conferences. How was he a jerk to the media?
He was always kind of pompous. Never bothered me. I thought the way he behaved in Washington was pretty unreal. That place is whacky.
I never really picked up on that. I used to love 5, man.
http://giphy.com/gifs/rapper-Mr0qKNcDe76j6
It wasn’t until the last few years. It was probably because we struggled. I loved him to. Hope Wentz can fill those shoes.
N/A = Nelson Agholor
The McLeod and Jenkins pairing needs a nickname.
hammer and nails
Tar and feathers?
Bad Hombres
Hungry Hungry Hippos…the kids say they want to “eat”…they get ints…I’m not good at this.
The Mc-Jenk Value Meal…… middling free agents that no one else wanted, yet have become a top-3 safety tandem so far…..but judging by how Walter Thurmond and Jenkins played together i put more of this situation on showing how good of a player Jenkins is.
We’re on pace for 53 sacks
I made a fairly bold sack prediction back before the season started. Pretty sure no one agreed. I can’ remember what it was though.
I really like what I’ve seen from Pederson so far. He seems to bring many of Andy’s strengths (even keel, ability to connect with players, good game planning, excellent play design) without some of Andy’s key weaknesses (he’s shown the ability to make in-game adjustments, he doesn’t abandon the running game too fast, and he’s been good with time management). And he’s clearly not afraid to be aggressive and seems to know when to take chances and when to play it safe. The team has too many personnel flaws to be a real contender this year but my confidence that we have the right QB/coach combination for long-term success is growing by the week.
The student surpassing the teacher.
TOO SOON?
A boy can dream.
If Eagles make playoffs Doug P. should be in ‘coach of the year’ discussions.
That guy in Boston pretty much has it locked up with the job he did the first 4 games. But yes, Doug should be in the conversation.
Yes and no. The first 4 games will certainly boost his chances, but coach of the year winners are more often guys who out coach expectations. Great coaches, once they have established themselves as great, often get less credit when it comes to coach of the year awards. Doug Pederson right now perfectly fits the mold of a coach who wins the award normally, even if he isnt necessarily “the best” coach this season. No question he is the one who has best outperformed expectations.
If Jeff Fisher is still employed at the end of the year, he should get it since he has been defying employment expectations for over a decade now.
Wins against Miami, Arizona, and Houston, and a loss against the Bills, those 4 games? Not exactly quality teams there.
I’m convinced at this point that he deserves it every single year. No exceptions.
Looking like Aaron Grymes will be signed to replace Ron Brooks.
Nelson Agholor and Wentz just are not on the same page. I’m not sure why Wentz I’d forcing the ball to him at this point. I also wonder who we can deactivate go get Treggs on the field. I don’t view him as some sort of Savior, but getting a guy who can blow the top of the defense and not stop running his route will help open things up underneath.
And on the topic of the post, I’m a big fan of what Pederson is doing this year.
I feel like Wentz is trying to show Agholor he trusts him, but it doesn’t look like it’s working.
Agholor is a mess and has turned into a liability on the field. Ags played 74% of the snaps, had 6 targets that equated to 2 catches for 10 yards. I’m finding it harder and harder to believe that Paul Turner or Bryce Treggs would be this ineffective if called upon.
Agholor has always been a liability on the field.
1st round pick. Could also be that he’s getting open. There’s much to go around for WRs. Who is Jordan Matthews?
He was definitely not open the Wentz threw him the pass that was picked off by Rhodes.
https://twitter.com/JoshPaunil/status/790552003034374144
Nice pocket awareness – really kept eyes downfield and like two hands on the ball. But hard to think he was going anywhere else but AGs.
Oh yeah. I think he did everything right….except throw that ball.
Ed Kracz just tweeted that Pederson said CJ smith will be the CB, maybe we add Grymes as well. Honestly i’m more excited about seeing either one of them on the field over Ron Brooks
Yeah, Smith will get the playing time. Geoff Mosher tweeted that they’re expected to sign Grymes, pending a physical. I don’t expect him to suit up on game day unless McKelvin’s hammy is still acting up.
NFC seems wide open this year. Cards, Seahawks and Panthers have problems. I love to see that, unless of course it’s someone like the Cowboys that fills the void.
We seem to match up well with poor OL, so maybe we can kick around the Seahawks too. We owe them.
NFC North: Vikes/Lions/Packers seem to be legit contenders (all with their own problems though), I am guessing one of the Wild Cards comes out of the North.
NFC South: Falcons seem to be only legit team, Carolina looks toast to me this season (their not same team). Saints/Bucs: doubt they grab a Wild-Card.
NFC West: Seattle/Arizona I think are only legit teams, I feel the West most resembles the East in the sense that Division games are often toss-ups so if Seattle and Arizona stay even-ish we could be looking at a Wild Card out of the West…….and the tie last night between SEA/ARI will make stretch interesting.
NFC East: Philadelphia/Dallas I think are legit Division contenders.
Conclusion: I believe Wild Cards come out of East & North personally…. so if we can get a game over .500 (9-7) I think we have a very good chance at playoffs, because I don’t see a World-Beater in the North/West.
Skins are at least as good as we are. We also have a super tough schedule rest of the way.
…straight up just don’t believe in the Skins for whatever reason.
I’m reverse of you on Washington. I think they’re a solid 9/10 win team.
The fraud teams are the Giants and Cowboys.
You really aren’t wrong.
“That gave Pederson the option of how to use the penalty. He had the ball put at the 2-yard line and went for the 2-point conversion.”
The penalty gave him the ball at the 1, which is why he decided to go for 2 points. The 2 is where it is normally placed for a 2 point conversion.
I hate that moving back the PAT means a fake PAT play is useless now.
Game highlight? #davidakerswouldahadim

Thank you, that just made my day.
Posted this yesterday during the game on the extra point call …
Rule change idea: We actually kicked the extra point and also got a personal foul call. Why should the one point come off the board? Put the ball on the two yard line and go for one additional point (a total of two). If not successful you still keep the one point you kicked. Just a thought.
Going for the 2 point conversion, after Carson had thrown 2 picks and fumbled in the first 4 drives, was so, so huge for this team, psychologically.
8 of our remaining 10 opponents, including all NFC East teams, are ranked top 10 in sack % on offense.
Does this worry anyone else? On one hand, our defense pretty much relies on our line to get pressure. On the other hand, we did dominate Pittsburgh with one of the best lines in the game
schwartz blitzed more – has been afraid to blitz in the past, think that helped.
Not even halfway into the season, rankings are meaningless
We have the hardest schedule remaining in the league. Our strength is our DL and our D is probably going to struggle when we go against good OL. Yes, it’s going to be a challenge. If we make the playoffs, we’ll have earned it.
This is much better than being a crappy rebuilding team though. At least you can go into each game not knowing how it’ll turn out.
I was expecting less than 9 wins, maybe a lot less, so this is all gravy for me.
Was listening to Geoff Mosher post game on the drive home. He had apparently picked the Eagles to win based on the matchup between our DL and Vikes offense. Essentially he felt we could get to the immobile Bradford through the poor OL. And our LBs and DBs could handle the Vikes skill position players.
He contrasted this with Washington offense. Better, bigger OL, more mobile QB, and better skill position players.
In other words, don’t expect our D to repeat yesterday’s performance against Dallas. At the same time, we’ve got to be better than we were against Washington.
I’m curious what the strategy will be but stopping the run may be the priority. I think Hicks has said the D is predicated on that, so I’m not providing deep insight here. Force Dak/Dallas to beat us with his arm. And he might. But that’s our best chance. Can’t get gashed in the run game.
I also thought that their bad o-line plus Sammy coming down to earth boded well for our chances.
The D is the strength of this team. The front line is talented, but not so much that it can be relied upon to win games against good teams IMO.
I think the O is going to have to step up to win our games against DAL and WAS. I’m not sure they’re up to it. It seems to me our best bet is a conservative game plan and hope DAL’s D doesn’t tackle.
The divisional games look to be toss-ups to me. If Wentz starts playing more like he did in the first few games, I’d give us the advantage.
Yes, if the offense can score that will put additional pressure on Dallas to throw the ball more. They’re not going to completely abandon the run game (their bread and butter) but if they’re playing with a lead, they can run, run, run.
Yep, to beat Dallas our O and D will need to play complementary football for sure. The D won’t dominate like they did yesterday.
I think our DL vs their OL was the key, they also don’t have skill position guys you’d want on your fantasy team (guess you could argue we don’t either).
Think key to the game was Wentz is mobile, bradford isn’t. If you sack Tom Brady 6 times w/ 19 hits Pats probably losing that game.
I think we concentrate on taking away the running game and the short stuff and make Dak beat us deep. He hasn’t shown the ability to do that yet this season.
I think we could win this game even if our defense struggles, though, because Dallas’ defense is significantly less imposing than Minnesota’s. A shootout victory is possible.
Yet they beat a much better offense in Pittsburgh. I’m not a big fan of Mosher generally and if he looks at the Washington game as a litmus I think he’s making a mistake. The tape on that game showed a lot of execution problems. Bad angles, bad technique, and a ton of penalties. When this team plays penalty free, they are a tough team to beat. Every team has a couple bad games a year, and Washington definitely fits in to that group.
I think they beat Washington when they come back to Philly.
What does the college tape tell us about how Dak handles getting hit? Does he get flustered, does he look to run?
He hasn’t been pressured all season long. If we can somehow stop the run, get a lead, maybe we can hit him a few times and find out.
Super nervous about this one. Our Dline could struggle again. Not sure the pressure is a given, even if you want to apply it.
If we can’t stop the run, we won’t force them into many 3rd and long situations. So we might not get many chances to get pressure or even blitz. If we can’t stop the run, then we are toast.
We have to force them into throwing to even have a chance to get pressure and/or blitz.
If Dak has time to throw or play action working due to run game, our LBs and DBs will struggle to hang with their skill position players.
Dak also much more mobile. Dallas’ run game is also beastly.
“Although the numbers appear promising, Prescott is far from the most effective quarterback under pressure. He recorded a -7.0 grade when disrupted in the pocket in 2015 (0.0 is considered average), despite throwing five touchdowns to just one pick.”
https://www.profootballfocus.com/draft-buyer-beware-when-drafting-these-3-quarterback-prospects/
“Pocket poise has been compromised. Hyper aware of pressure around him and lacks awareness to slide and find temporary shelter to make throw. Concern over pressure too often trumps ability to get through progressions.”
http://www.nfl.com/draft/2016/profiles/dak-prescott?id=2555260
“Struggled mightily on obvious passing downs and when run-game was taken away
Footwork breaks down upon pressure
Quick to pull his eyes down, look at the rush and abandon the pocket”
http://nfldraftgeek.com/dakprescott-nfldraftscoutingreport.html
And weirdly:
“Player Comparison: Donovan McNabb. Prescott has seen a lot of comparison made to Tim Tebow because they both played in Dan Mullen’s offense. Some have compared him to Russell Wilson, but in my opinion, McNabb is the most similar. Both are quarterbacks with strong arms, mobility, shorter-thick frames, and needing work as pocket passers entering the NFL.

I really hope he isn’t half of what Don was.
Especially not with that supporting cast and balanced play-calling!
He’s scared!
Committing to stopping the run is a big reason why Prescott has faced very little pressure. Dallas has shown that they will run whether leading or not, and most defenses cannot stop them on the ground without leaving gaping holes in the flat and beyond. He not only gets time, but he gets open receivers most of the times he drops back. We know that OL, so our best chance is vigilant edge-sealing and LB penetration. I don’t like our chances if Logan is not playing.
Is Barner injured?
Four words: Media Mike Jeff Gillooly.
ha ha ha ha ha; there are way better guys to take a bat to, but thank you for bringing up that bit of Americana.
Nope, just not really good at a whole lot.
he’s only good when they give him the ball to carry.
So he can fumble it in key situations and/or drop it when passed to him?
So, he becomes Ryan Matthews?
Or did Mathews become Barner?
or is it the same person?
Good point.
nah so he can cut through the line make some guys miss and get some yards. he’s good . sorry
No, he’s sorry.
he’s not joe morris. we don’t have to hate the guy. until we do
You mean like Matthews? LOL!
Huh? So you actually hate Barner more than Mathews, who may have literally cost us a game with a fumble, and when given a chance to redeem himself, did it A SECOND TIME??

Prop Bet for Sunday:
Dez is back and Dak throws a pick-6 trying to force it to Dez at some point during the game (hopefully crucial moment).
won’t say pick six but a pick on an underthrown ball where the cb is beat but jenkins makes the snag – wouldn’t be surprised at all.
I’d be surprised if Jenkins didn’t drop one.
true -maybe i should edit my comment.
Seems like he drops at least one a week.
if we caught them all we probably couldn’t afford him – so this is probably the best outcome for everyone.
He’s doing it for the team.
TWICE!
Like that Taylor Hart is back. Always thought he looked better in a 4-3.
F U Chip.
Shame that means Bennie is still hurt.
That does suck, but I am stoked. He actually looked really good over the summer, just didn’t have room. Pretty shocked that he would’t work out for Chip. Hell, maybe he 1 gaps better than he 2 gaps. He never really showed a whole lot until this summer.
“Personally, I’d like to get Wendell Smallwood more touches. He shows better vision and better burst than Mathews right now. Let’s see what the young guy can do.”
AMEN

I’m really liking the the Linc has been a living nightmare for this visiting teams this season. Our defense specifically has been great at home. 3 games isn’t really enough to say anything definitively, but seems like it’s been a long time since the Eagles have been particularly good at home.
Arian Foster just retired. Funny a guy who has missed 3, 0, 3, 8, 3, 12, and 3 games in his “career’ is getting a rather large level of praise.
As an UDFA, he was a monster for 4 seasons, carrying the Texans. UDFAs rarely pan out like that. It’s one of the reasons Jason Peters is so well respected around the league.
Jason Peters misses less games and doesn’t fail to return my investment in fantasy.
yeah i had him too – him and josh gordon and jordy nelson, all my gambles have failed me.
I learned years ago to leave Foster off of my fantasy roster, but I hear you.
I take the Joe Banner approach to ff, better to get rid of them a year too early than hold on to them past their prime. Unfortunately, Foster’s prime was short-lived.
Always felt like Kubiak sort of ran him into the ground during that time – be nice if he’d made it onto the broncos squad last year.
You lost me with the Broncos last year. Foster played for the Texans and went on IR in 2015.
Kubiak was texans coach – coached broncos to SB last year. I felt like AF was terribly overused in TX- would have been nice if he could have shared in Kubiak’s success.
his best trait was is being an proud atheist
Which is very cool, I just wished he believed in playing every week.
haha yeah he doesn’t believe in ANYTHING!
and that means, what, specifically, to you?
He was a dominant running back during his career. Came from nowhere and made a big impact on the league.
Wow, Geno Smith out for the season. Not that he’s any good, but that’s a pretty nasty thing to happen right when he got a chance to play.
not as bad as getting your jaw broken by a teammate
Good idea, bad execution.

Torrey Smith on the trade block. I’m intrigued, but don’t want to give up a high pick.
Agholor for Smith straight up? (Or Huff plus a conditional?)
You think Chip would take Taylor Hart back…..
Why would they cut him then?
Someone posted on Twitter that Torrey Smith does one thing, but boy do the Eagles need that one thing. And I would definitely do Smith for Agholor straight up.
Huff has grown on me a bit. He’s got special teams value (and I felt that way prior to the TD). He’s improved as a gunner and I think Pederson is putting him in situations he can excel in. So for me Huff > Agholor.
How about Agholor and Barner?
Mathews maybe… Barner hasn’t cost us a win yet.
Don’t know if this has been posted, but rumor is Eagles in talks with 49ers about Torey Smith
for a 4th?
Was coming on to post that. Would be nice to have a speedster to take the top off
I wonder if Barwin would be involved in this trade
Would like the wr crew with Smith.
Dgb – big physical receiver
Jordan – slot possession receiver
Smith – bigger speedster deep threat
Having someone to stretch the field (and be an actual threat) would open up so much underneath for everyone. DGB, Matthews, Ertz, Celek, Burton….it’s really the one big piece I think we’re missing.
If the price was right, I’d do this every day.
https://twitter.com/JasonLaCanfora/status/790738442443452417
That would be amazing but I have a feeling that price is going to be steeeeep.
https://twitter.com/JasonLaCanfora/status/790738629559746560
Surprised to see measurable on Smith and agholor are very similar. Same height, Smith weighs a few more pounds, same 40 yard dash
Agholor looks faster and Smith looks a lot bigger to my eye
Smith’s “Doesn’t Slow Down On His Routes” is better though.
While acquiring another WR would be great, priority needs to be slot corner. Anyone out there available or that we can pry from another team without breaking the bank?
What? Our best WR is a slot corner.
If the price for Torrey Smith is Zach Ertz, are you cool with that?
Hell no.
that’s tough, would be interesting – but good TEs are hard to come by.
They would have to put Ertz on suicide watch if he ends up back in Chip’s offense.
but you’d hear great things about the relationship he’s started to build with Blaine Gabbert. Or Kaepernick. Or whoever.
Answer to original question: hell the F no
Smith and a 3rd round pick. I really don’t think Ertz is worth the money we’ll be paying him but Smith is older and also expensive.
Wouldn’t happen. Ertz just signed an extension and is therefore pretty much untradeable.
I didn’t see the play. How the hell does this happen?
https://twitter.com/rapsheet/status/790736021264605185
Without seeing it, I would guess getting rolled up on from behind. Puts a lot of flexion on the knee.
That is horrific. Wheelchair for months?
And months and months and months!!!!! I kid, the good news is there are other ligaments to stabalize the knee. The bad news, if there are complete tears on both ligaments, the quad has nothing to contract against making leg extension nearly impossible. However wotj surgery he should be walking again in a few months, a return to the NFL would be highly questionable as one could guess!
No he basically was back pedaling and looks like left knee buckled then his right knee couldn’t take all the strain and buckled too.
Bill O’Brien had him lowered into the gears of a combine. Bad decision imo.
Trevor Semien, Dak or Wentz?
If the choice was Semian AND Dak or Wentz, I’ll still take Wentz.

so torrey smith for ags could be real?
Where are you hearing this?
Taylor Hart, straight up.
